VERY GOOD QUESTION- I know my answer should be rather straightforward but I feel I have to put some context to my answers since they may seem contradictory/paradoxical otherwise, so bear with me-

Sammy x Norman : Well. I think that one was pretty obvious, anyone who's seen more than 3 of my posts knows that I'd die for these two. They're just so PERFECT for each other, from their complementary personalities to the fact that their relationship allows us to delve deeper into batim's historical and social context. Sammy and Norman have one of the few relationships that develop the most during the game's lore : Norman originally complains vehemently about Sammy's frenetic behavior, only to end up lamenting to Buddy and Dot how 'Sammy isn't the same anymore'. What's interesting about this statement is that he says it in relation to Sammy's strange behavior : clearly, the two men have grown close enough for Norman to differentiate Sammy's extravagant habits from his ink-influenced behavior.

Furthermore, Sammy is a very gray character morally, a perfectionist who is extremely socially maladjusted (surely due to the fact that he's coded on the spectrum and autism wasn't properly diagnosed at the time), naturally ostracizing him. For his part, Norman comes from a rural background (which surely earns him the animosity of the people at the studio, given the historical context and the fact that he could very well be poc) and also seems ill at ease socially : to me, it's fascinating to see two characters excluded from their peers because of differences they can't change (being autistic or poc and gay) getting closer to each other, to the point where Sammy, who is deeply misanthropic, naturally compliments Norman by describing him as very bright. To me, Norman is the perfect partner for Sammy : ready to apprehend him as he is, since he's completely free of social conventions, without taking any shits from him.

I think Sammy and Norman can really get the best out of each other, during a historical period when being different was strongly proscribed. I think I'd have trouble enjoying Batim as much without their dynamic at its heart (considering how narratively rich it is) : Norman is Henry's confidant, Sammy is Joey's, both remain morally gray deuteragonists fundamentally opposed to the ink machine, while remaining fascinated by its powers. And who wouldn't love a good old enemies to lovers ending tragically with the unwitting murder of one by the other ? After all, Norman's main flaw is that he's too curious for his own good, and it was Sammy who inevitably led him to his doom..

Allison x Tom : what more can I add. She's everything. He's just Tom. I've always been drawn to characters/ships with a vibe completely opposite to the vibe of the work they originally came from, and the 'turning poison into positivity' energy that Tom and Allison bring to Batim has always fascinated me. In a world as tragic as their own, I find it touching to see these two find beauty in all the ugliness and manage to ask themselves 'what if we were happy after all ?' It's really striking and brings a narrative richness to the work, since they directly mirror what failed with Sammy and Susie : Allison is perfect, but that was never what was at stake in Tom's eyes. Tom was looking for humanity, not perfection, and he managed to go beyond the image of the muse to discover a friend, unlike Sammy with Susie. They're literally Romeo and Juliet but, well... Not dead.

Joey x Henry/Henry x Linda : oh boy. These three... Let me get it straight right away : Henry and Linda are perfect for each other. She's exactly what he needs to be happy : she's present, patient. There's no denying that he loves her immensely. But Joey... oh Joey is undoubtedly Henry's soul mate. The subtlety is that Joey can't bring him the stable happiness Linda can : Joey tugs at him, pushes him over the edge. He knows exactly what to do to push him beyond his own limits. The love Joey offers Henry is an uncomfortable but unconditional one, one that would allow Henry to go beyond what he thinks he's capable of achieving because no one knows Henry better than Joey ! And let's be honest, Batim only exists because Joey refuses to move on, to live his dream without Henry in it. He's stuck in unrequited love and refuses to learn to live with it. And that's the tragedy of this trio : Henry sincerely loves Linda but is truly himself with Joey, which prevents him from hating OR loving him (And Joey exploits this information by remaining extremely toxic and convincing himself that he can wear him down lmao). Henry is stuck with this dilemma : Existing peacefully with Linda or living painfully with Joey. And that's why I love the dynamic of this love triangle : because there are no solutions that will satisfy everyone.

Joey x Sammy : okay, don’t get me wrong : these two are HORRIBLE for each other. Does Sammy periodically want to quit just to piss Joey off? Yes. Isn't Joey's fascination with Sammy intimately tied to his refusal to forget Henry, who was a genius like Sammy? Yes. Nevertheless, it's impossible for me to read The Illusion of Living without feeling embarrassed and like I'm reading Joey's diary : whether you ship them or not, Joey is practically canonically smitten with Sammy. I sincerely don't think Joey and Sammy can sustain a healthy relationship with each other, but oh boy, surely that won't stop me from exploiting their bizarre obsessive love-hate relationship, where it's hard to determine whether they're going to throw hands or make out.

I feel like Spartans would also be attracted to someone who can give them competition. Like, if Kelly had her fastest time at the Infinity's track tied by a medic in full kit, or Linda having her high score at the firing range beaten by another sharpshooter with unorthodox firing positions.

Oh, 100% and no one can convince me otherwise. Like the Spartans love a good challenge and I believe this causes some of them to obsess because they get overly excited, especially since this is out of the norm. Granted for this to work and be true, that someone would have to be at least Spartan-IV or have augmentations.

The words 'oh no,' would come out of Fred's mouth when Linda saw the leaderboard and she had been bumped into second place for the third time that week. First, all of Blue team was surprised but none of them were prepared for how excited Linda got, someone had beaten her? At shooting? Her? For the first time in her life? None of the other Spartan IIs could come close to making the shots she could, but here her name was, right above Fred's and finally, finally below someone else's. Linda has to know who it is, she is grilling Roland for information; she wants this Spartan's mission record, she wants their full profile and I believe this might be where Linda's obsession starts. Linda herself makes shots from unorthodox firing positions and to find another person who does it? She'll be asking Captain Lasky to pull some strings to get onto a mission with this Spartan and their team. And for the first time in the UNSC Infinity's history, the number one spot keeps bouncing between Spartan-058 and Spartan [L/n].

The day Kelly sees her record time tied with someone else, she stands there for a solid minute unmoving. She even goes to grab John or Linda and points asking if she's finally going insane and seeing things. Kelly wants to race. Who is this person and where can she find them? Fred has to hold her back from sprinting around the ship to find who the hell this other Spartan is. The longer this question goes unanswered, the more unraveled she gets, she's always been the fastest, and no one in the Spartan II program could catch her but here someone was with the same speed as her? This has got to be a lie, and she doesn't believe it until she sees a spartan playing rabbit for their team on the field and she immediately knows this bitch person is them. And when she finds out that they're the team's medic, Kelly wants to know more. She'll ambush them in the middle of the hall or in the medical facility, Kelly has question and you will answer them. Honestly, a part of her is excited to run full speed with someone matching her pace.

did you hear about what Martin said about Susan and Linda on the Twitter space he hosted on the 27th? i thought of you instantly when he started talking about them and have been waiting for you to post your thoughts! :-)

HEHE YES IM THE ONE WHO’S QUESTION LED TO THAT!!!!!

Now for those who didn’t listen to that space, Martin said that Linda called her to say goodbye but never specified how it went of course. Besides “hey Susan I’m leaving sorry this is really impacting my mental health” “gaaaaaaaaaaey”/j

This is all a personal headcanon but I like to think that their friendship grew incredibly distant ever since Linda married Felix, Susan probably stopped talking to her altogether for a while and it would leave Linda very confused and upset. They might’ve started talking to eachother again a little bit as the series of events began to approach but only very brief small talk, maybe Linda complaining a little and giving Susan a few life updates and them both talking about stuff they’ve been noticing with others lately (especially Felix’s drinking), but nothing deeper than that.

I see Susan being extremely emotionally closed off to most people except maybe a select few that she knows very closely, so if you were to ask her what’s going on in her life she’d give you a very vaguely watered down version and not what’s actually going on or how she’s really managing herself emotionally.

So basically she used to be more open with Linda, but during that period she sort of just started treating her like a stranger.

So when Linda called her first to tell her that she’s finally leaving, Susan acted how she usually would, keeping it calm, understanding and respectful and wishing her luck, but she won’t really show any more than that. Or that she cried later and felt pretty bad that they couldn’t be so close anymore and that she’ll probably never be able to make up for herself acting so distant for the past many years again.

Of course this all comes from how I view Susan as a character myself though and also the fact that I refuse to pass up the idea that she has feelings for Linda. I like to think that she introduced her to Felix cuz Linda was getting more desperate to find a relationship and Susan was getting weird thoughts so in a panic she shoved her off to him so she could avoid the urges. They’ve been boiling within her since highschool and she always was able to push them aside or excuse them as “she’s just my very close friend I don’t have many close friends so she feels extra special” and as the years went by they began distracting her a lot from her work and were growing stronger and more unavoidable aaand they were really beginning to affect how she’d interact with Linda and you see Susan hates feeling like another has any control over her and Linda just wouldn’t shut up about hooooow badly she wants a relationship and hoooow many dates keep failing and Susan was at the point to where she was starting to get the kind of dreams that make you stare up at the ceiling in horror when you open your eyes in the morning so one day when she overheard Felix speaking about being single and wanting to start looking around, she decided to introduce her to him. Susan allegedly never finds a problem she can’t fix in some way so that was her solution.

They hit it off, Susan’s solution isn’t working for some reason cuz she doesn’t feel any relief at all and in fact feels worse but just sucks it up and just focuses on her work and looks the other way. Linda and Felix get married, Susan feels like throwing up the entire day and now feels somehow even more worse by now and suddenly whenever Linda wants to chat she’s suddenly always “busy” every time. Susan’s often busy anyways but you know yourself when there’s a difference between “shit I’m busy that day, let’s do Sunday instead” and “Sorry I can’t, I’m busy”, “I don’t know when I’ll be available.”

While Linda and Felix were dating, Susan probably assumed that she was just jealous that she couldn’t have a little fun at her age herself. When they got married, Susan told herself that she’s probably so depressed over it cuz it’s making her feel like she’s fallen behind others her age and that maybe she feels bitter that all of these people are moving on and going through these important life stages while she remains behind. Which made no sense otherwise cuz Susan couldn’t give any less of a fuck about starting any sort of family or going out. But that’s what Susan would tell herself that she feels so she wouldn’t have to think about it any further. By the time Susan thinks she’s over whatever it was, she begins having brief talks with Linda occasionally. Not often and still a bit distant, but way better than before.

So yeah can you imagine how shitty and guilty Susan felt that whole time of her weird bitterness toward Linda being in a relationship and not being able to approach her much anymore or how Felix turned out to be such a shitty husband.

If this headcanon is aligned with twf’s canon, she’d probably be dead before she even gets to actually acknowledge and accept her feelings as they are. Such is life though. Not like she could’ve done anything about it.

Hmm, okay to be completely honest, I haven't really spent much time thinking about this. However I do personally think that Candace and Phineas' parents are divorced, while Ferb's mom passed away.

All that said, let's see if I can come up with something here...

Linda and Mr. Flynn were married young

Linda was still in her Lindana days then, he was some up-and-coming producer at the time

They met at a party somewhere and hit it off immediately. It's called networking.

They were the hot couple in the tabloids for awhile. You could barely go a week without seeing their faces or hearing their names somewhere.

Shortly after they were married, Linda found out she was pregnant and gave up the Lindana act to stay at home with the baby

Candace was a very ugly baby.

Candace loved her daddy, she was like a little duckling that followed him around everywhere

She liked to put on his glasses and his shoes and stomp around the house doing impressions of him.

They lived as a unit of three for awhile until Phineas came into the picture

Phineas was a sickly baby (you can't tell me that head of his made for an easy birthing experience), so it was hard on the family while he spent time in the hospital

He was also an ugly baby btw.

When Phineas was around two, all the stress had reached the breaking point, and they finally admitted defeat and divorced

I hate to say it was a bitter divorce, but well, there must be some reason he's out of the picture.

Lawrence and Mrs. Fletcher were sickeningly in love

Like ooey gooey mushy wushy stuff 24/7 just the most disgusting couple to be around.

They met as teenagers and were sweethearts ever since.

They liked to go on dates to cute little restaurants as often as they could

She loved movies, practically every weekend was spent at the cinema. She especially liked old black and white films.

She got sick when Ferb was only a baby, but she hid it well from him

She didn't want him to remember her ill.

Until she couldn't hide it anymore.

She passed away when Ferb was only a toddler

It scares him that the older he gets, the less he remembers of her.

Lawrence was - understandably - a wreck.

For several months.

Ferb stayed with his grandparents for awhile

Lawrence just couldn't cope with his grief and a toddler at the same time

Especially since every time he looked at Ferb, he saw her eyes.

Eventually Lawrence picked himself up, and while still devastated, knew he needed a fresh start.

For both of them. For all of them.

Ferb once asked why they didn't see Mummy anymore, and Lawrence almost broke down again

That's when he moved them to the United States

He knew he'd miss his family, but this was a clean slate.

It was hard at first, raising a kid on his own, but he knew he had to, for Ferb's sake

It's what his wife would have wanted. He'd promised her he'd do a good job.

He was so nervous the day he enrolled his shy little boy in preschool

They had barely walked into the classroom when a little redheaded boy took Ferb's hand and said "I know what we're going to do today!"

Lawrence met the boy's mom later that day.

"hey yeah we didn't feel like doing long questlines anymore :) sorry!" feels like an ao3 author's note who stops posting and leaves their fics unfinished on chapter 25/27 because they moved fandoms, except this is a (supposedly) professional company getting paid to produce a product people are paying for who are just leaving not just the event questline but like half a dozen proper questlines in general abandoned and unfinished in their game on what is essentially a whim.

Finishing a project is a skill that is quite literally expected of university students, let alone working adults, and offering good experiences to your players means giving them satisfactory endings to quests after stringing them along for years.

Any goddamn professional who goes "hey these long questlines aren't working, lets shift to a more stand-alone shorter style of quest development" should still have the goddamn decency to finish the ongoing quests instead of abandoning them entirely. It's messy and immature not to.

"oooo but [insert name] left the company!! so we don't know how to finish it :(" the only thing less professional than just throwing shit out unfinished is to have entire parts of your process rely on a single person with no way to pick it back up if that person gets sick/quits/gets fired. do fucking better.

Cursed (joke) ship idea: Linda/Miller

Liller, if you will. Or Millinda.

I love a good rarepair, and these two under-characterized Spartans have opposite personalities and nearly incompatible communication styles. I love it.

The easy route is making Miller Linda's shaking purse dog, but that's too simple. It could be fun, but it ignores all the other problems these two have. It takes a belt sander to their other facets about how they can make each other worse.

Linda is quiet, incredibly skilled, and fiercely loyal. She's also a super under-socialized S-II. Miller is a kind of whiny, smart S-IV who's building confidence at his job but he exists in the "we have to spell things out for you" halo media.

Borrowing an initial meeting from @bloodgulchblog's speeddating au, the Infinity has a speed-dating event. People who would not usually talk meet at a table for 3 minutes. They leave. Miller now has a S-II haunting him because of miscommunication/ she adopts the ones she likes. S-IIs engaging in a light-hearted speed-dating event with the focus and rigor of an active mission would be so so funny.

Miller is the guy in the chair feeding her intel on exercises and missions, that's new and helpful. Point for Miller. Linda is observant, works well under pressure (I wish she got more personality than being zen and loyal), and would take Miller's intel seriously. Point for Linda. Miller can be worn down to agree with the most insane plans if they're the only viable option, Linda is a S-II, all their plans are insane. Point for Miller.

It wouldn't be a straightforward relationship. Spartan Courting could be insane. Affection showed differently. Looking out for each other, sharing food, Linda ominously t-posing just outside render distance. Miller gets a single thank you or good job and he's amazed. The Handler/Sniper dynamic of trusting the calls and evac. You need to know how the other will react and will trust you to get the job done. Needing to know they will pull you out of the fire and bring you home. Linda camping out for hours to get a shot but she lets the funny guy she found in on the radio.

Hear me out:

If you're dating a Spartan, they're more than likely used to you as a member of active military, right? They're so used to you being a soldier that they tend to forget that before them, before the war, you were someone else. Like, Linda finding out you were a pianist, or Kelly finding out you were a gardener, or Naomi finding out you were in art school. Something like that.

OKAY I'M HAVING A FANGIRL MOMENT BECAUSE THE CHARACTER I HAVE IN MY HEAD WITH NAOMI IS AN ARTIST AND YOU READ MY MIND AND I'M SCREAMING

anyways-

I'm excited you brought this up and this whole prompt, because the Spartans would be more used to a more active military partner, whether it's being a Marine, ODST, a Spartan-IV, Scientist, Engineer, etc. They used to you fighting in a war, Spartans are antisocial by nature, so they most likely wouldn't hang out with your friends or other teammates, and most other branches of the Military view Spartans in awe, so they most likely never see you in a "normal" environment until way later on.

I'm sure they know you have hobbies, they've heard you talk about them and the Spartans delight in it for you but they've never seen you doing them. Most of the Spartans probably never thought of who their partner was before them.

So they are always pleasantly surprised to find out new things about their S/o, like, Linda would be scouting the ship looking for her partner after a mission, more likely than not, she's never heard someone play the piano before in person, sure, Deja played them music as children but Linda had never seen someone play in-person before, she didn't even know the Infinity had a piano. Imagine her surprise when she enters the empty bar and finds her partner lost in their own world playing a random song that might have significance to them. When you finish the song, she wants to hear it again, scaring you half to death when she silently appears at your side, "What song was that? Will you play it again for me?"

Or, Kelly going for a run around the Infinity's memorial park one early morning, say, maybe after breakfast, she knew you had plans after eating with Blue team. She respects her partner's space, choosing not to pry and going on with her business, of course, Kelly can spot her partner a mile away, it's second nature for her at this point. So when she sees you digging in the ground with flower pots all around, she goes to investigate. Her shadow towers over your hunch-over form and you just give her a smile over your shoulder before going back to business. Kelly observes for a while, remembering a conversation in which her partner said something about growing a garden again. "Is this what you mean by 'green thumb'? I don't think these flowers grow tomatoes."

Naomi is about ready to drag her partner away before you've had too much when you start talking about a boarding school on earth that your parents sent you to before the war started, an art academy. Dev leans over, and gaps at the datapad before ripping it out of your hands to show the table and Naomi has to blink before she registers the sketches. Most of them were of...her? Different angles, her expressions that she often shows to you, some were even in armor and you had gotten all the pieces drawn correctly. There was one of BB, and the whole crew, another one of a previous unit you've served in and the last one was her laughing with stars and hearts drawn around her, the words 'the love of my life." written above her head.

I can even assume that John's heard his partner hum melodies, never a full song but humming to yourself while working on a project or even getting ready for bed. He's never questioned it, it's something you always did, he's aware some of the tunes you hum are from your grandmother. What he didn't expect was to return from a mission and being unable to find his S/o for a while until Roland directed him to the Infinity's bar, saying the Spartan-IVs convinced you to perform. It's your voice he's aware of first before seeing his partner on the small stage, singing away like nothing else mattered around you. John isn't surprised when you notice him right away after giving a bow as the room fills with cheers and 'encores'. You both slip away from the area knowing this wasn't John's crowd to be around. "I didn't know that was a song. Or that you sang."

bob and linda being such good parents is really impressive bcuz they were 100% figuring it out as they went. neither of them had any good examples of parenting in their lives before their kids were born

linda's parents were both shitty people and big bob was a terrible father who bob was low contact with when the kids were younger, and lily died before bob was even close to being a father. nobody to ask for advice about parenting or learn from or follow along w/ their own kids they just had to do what they felt was right and try not to screw up their kids too much (in both of their situations i think it was a lot of "try to do everything our parents WOULDNT do when we were kids" so they were always supportive always affectionate and always encouraging)

can definitely imagine when tina was born bob and linda sitting down and really discussing how they're going to parent their kids, what they will and won't do with stuff like punishments and spankings etc. how to encourage their kids and be affectionate and emotionally open while not enabling them. LOTS of long conversations when the kids were younger (and calls to their family doctor) trying to figure it out. and yeah they made a few mistakes but they did a really good job all things considered :)

Dick: "Bruce never called to tell me what happened to Jason. He didn’t know I was half-way across the universe, but he didn’t even leave a message on my machine. If Danny hadn’t found out... Blast him. Why didn’t he call me?"

3. Bruce picks Jean-Paul Valley as the next Batman (Robin 13)

Dick: "You left Tim alone with a lunatic. The kid could have been killed." Bruce: "There wasn't time." Dick: "No time to pick up a phone? No time to call me? ... I thought there was one guy who'd have faith in me. But when it comes down to the test, you picked someone else to succeed you."

4. Alfred quits after Bruce's back gets broken in Knightfall (Nightwing: Alfred's Return)

I recently got two asks about Linda so I thought I would just combine them here: warning this is long because as always I have too much to say 🤭

and thank you so much guys for the asks <3!! I really appreciate the opportunity to delve into these topics and have an open discussion, please share any thoughts or opinions y’all have, I would truly love to hear from you guys too

as for the first ask: this will probably be controversial but honestly I have mixed feelings about Linda Thompson, and it’s not so much over her relationship with Elvis that I feel conflicted about, it’s just some of the comments/posts she has made that have rubbed me the wrong way a little bit🤧

To start though I want to say I by no means hate Linda, Elvis loved her and there’s no questions I have for why he did- I think she is a really caring and nurturing person at heart. So if Elvis loved her, then I wish the best for her, and I try to live by this philosophy for everyone he loved… even if they do things I don’t like or don’t agree with

Also her book is one of my favorites out of all the girlfriends and it is genuinely beautiful (although I do wish the whole book was just about Elvis because I could not care less about Caitlyn Jenner lmaoo). You can feel the love and respect she has for him, and I will always admire how candidly she talks about Elvis whilst also being understanding of him and his complexities. Obviously Elvis was not a perfect human, but Linda writes in a way that really conveys her compassion/love towards of him even during the times when he was being quite frankly, an asshole 💀

I truly respect her for taking care of him the best she could, and still defending him to this day. I was honestly always relieved whenever the camera was on her in that Amazon prime documentary “Elvis’ Women” because she often set the record straight and didn’t allow for any sensationalized stories to be told about him

And one of my absolute favorite quotes about Elvis comes from her book and it’s when she said, “There is black and there is white, and then there is Elvis Presley”

As for some of the comments she has made (mainly on her Instagram), I cannot help but get the vibe that she is a touch narcissistic or as some of the Memphis mafia have said, “has a beauty queen personality”😖

Obviously I’m no psychologist but if y’all follow her on Instagram you might know what I mean. A couple months ago she shared a Instagram story that had a quote from David Stanley saying something along the lines of “Linda was the most beautiful girl Elvis was with and the best for him”

Now there’s absolutely nothing wrong with holding that opinion, she is incredibly beautiful and she cared deeply for Elvis, but I feel like sharing that quote had no purpose but to boost her ego. And David Stanley can choke for all I care, especially because some of the headlines he has been making lately

Linda also has a tendency to diminish the relationships Elvis had with other women, particularly with Sheila Ryan and Ann Pennington

Linda was very young and in love at the time and rightfully angry about being cheated on. But at the same time I don’t think that justifies calling another woman a hooker, and that definitely doesn’t make it okay to tell everybody in the group that she was getting paid to be with Elvis, especially when it’s known that Sheila was the one girlfriend who demanded nothing out of him ⬇️ (y’all know I love Sheila I’m serious about defending her lmaoo)

She also recently made a post on Instagram where she shared some photos of her and Elvis and said this in the caption ⬇️

Am I too sensitive or does this rub y’all the wrong way too?? I wouldn’t call Sheila Ryan or Ann Pennington just “friends”. This may have not been Linda’s intentions but I find it disrespectful to reduce their relationship with Elvis to that, especially when Elvis cared so much about them

Even in the Amazon prime documentary “Elvis’ Women” she referred to Sheila and Ann as “dalliances” and also said the only women with any “holding power” in Elvis’ life was herself, Anita and Priscilla. But to name a few, Elvis almost married Dixie Locke before he got famous, he bought Graceland and intended to live there with June Juanico, he seriously considered marrying Ann Margret, he wanted Joyce Bova to live at Graceland (same with Sheila Ryan) and he literally proposed to Ginger Alden

Again, I might just be sensitive but that “holding power” comment totally rubbed me the wrong way. I have the feeling this is how she fuels her self-importance … by minimizing Elvis’ relationships with other women 🤧

as for the second ask: I think what caused the decline of her relationship with Elvis was that as she matured and grew up within the 4 1/2 years they dated, her priorities changed, and they no longer fitted to what Elvis wanted

Linda was pushing for marriage and by doing so Elvis was feeling pressured, and just from what I have read about him, that man didn’t want to be pressured by anybody

I honestly don’t believe Elvis ever intended to get married after his divorce with Priscilla, and despite proposing to Ginger, like many others, I don’t believe he would have taken the step to the actual altar. So by being very open about his affairs and wanting to be photographed with Diana Goodman and introducing women like Sheila Ryan at concerts as his girlfriend, perhaps that was his way of letting Linda know he didn’t “belong” to her and wasn’t planning on getting married🤧

This excerpt is from Albert Goldman’s “Elvis” so definitely take it with a grain of salt but I think it’s very interesting as it describes the course of his relationship with Linda ⬇️

In Linda Thompson’s book “A Little Thing called Life” she talks very openly about how their relationship essentially became “sexless”, and how she graduated to the role of caretaker as opposed to romantic partner. And according to Diana Goodman, Linda even acted as a third wheel when Elvis went on dates with Diana, and so I think by that point in the relationship Linda didn’t feel as threatened by other women because she knew her role in Elvis’ life: caretaker

This is just my opinion but I think Elvis stayed with Linda Thompson so long purely out of convenience. She was a woman who knew what he liked (movies, food, music etc. etc), she knew how to take care of him, and she had integrated herself into the group very successfully and got along with the people in his life, especially Lisa Marie. I have seen Elvis being quoted saying “I don’t want to teach another one” a few times, meaning he didn’t want to have to teach another woman how he lived, and how he liked things, he was simply comfortable with Linda because she knew him

But I think Elvis likely felt a little suffocated by her constant presence, which seemed to be the case with most women who he was with for long periods of time, and I believe that’s when he began pursuing women like Sheila Ryan, Ann Pennington and Diana Goodman. I also believe this is why he bought Linda an apartment out in California and a house in Memphis despite her living at Graceland: he was slowly trying to inch her out of the picture so he could do whatever he wanted with whatever woman he wanted. I forget what Memphis Mafia member said it but I remember a quote that said something like While Linda was out shopping in California, Elvis got with other women, that’s why he encouraged her spending

As for Elvis saying he could never picture himself marrying Linda, Ginger Alden’s book gives great insight ⬇️

Elvis could be very old fashioned about things so this definitely seems like a plausible explanation as to why he could never picture himself marrying Linda, she was likely too headstrong about it and it turned him off from the idea. As for flirting with the idea about having children with Linda, Elvis was very “obsessed” with the idea of having a son, and when he began dating Ginger Alden he also told her about him wanting her to have his son, and name him John Baron. So I don’t think his ideas of having more children was because of Linda or Ginger specifically, I believe he just wanted a son, and would likely tell whatever woman that he was intending to be with for a long time, his idea
