As for why Wolf has purple eyes (in case anyone was wondering lol), his eyes actually used to be brown when he was younger, but he was experimented on and and augmented to adjust to living in space- including his eyes, so that's why they're purple bc they're cybernetics

Crashing Waves // Chapter 2 // Namor
Tumblr media
Pairing: Namor x POC Reader
Warning: Spoilers
Chapter 1 // Chapter 3
Tumblr media
The anticipation was enough to make you sweat. The silence was too loud. You wanted to fight in case they attacked. But what if they realized you were locked in your room, maybe they'd let you go. You let down your guard and went to the back of the room just as the door was ripped off its hinges. Fuck. Maybe you should've fought. The people that walked in the room definitely weren't wakandans. Their skin was wet and blue as if they walked straight from the ocean. The woman looked at you before taking a couple steps into your room and you felt your body tense. Backing away you prepared yourself for a fight as she stopped to look at the hulking man next to her.
"Xeen a informar K'uk'ulkan"
(Go inform K'uk'ulkan.)
She spoke in a language I'm not familiar with before the man walked out of the room. You watched him leave before she turned back to you with a stone stare. "Who are you?" You stood with a fierce expression as she took a step forward. "Speak surface dweller."
"You show up out of nowhere killing everyone and you ask me who I am?" You questioned as she tightened her grip on her weapon. Before you could move to attack, another man stalked inside the room. His pointed ears stuck out to you immediately, letting you know he isn't human.
"It'll work out for you better if you answer her." He spoke and you let out a scoff. He didn't take your reaction too kindly as he punched a hole in the wall next to your head. "Are you ready to talk?"
"There's nothing to say. I'm just a college professor." You told him and he tilted his head as if analyzing your answer.
"What's a college professor doing in the middle of the ocean with the military? Surely not teaching a class. You're out here looking for something surface dweller?" He asked and you were actually speechless. You quickly masked your shock before crossing your arms.
"Who are you? Before I go answering any more questions." You said and he gave a small grin.
"My name is Namor. Or K'uk'ulkan. King of my people." He replied and I held my composure, standing my ground. "You don't seem too shocked."
"I've been around royalty multiple times before. It doesn't really come off as a shock anymore." I told him and he crossed his arms.
"Now back to my question, little one. You're out here looking for something aren't you?"
"No, they were out here looking for something. Those people you killed. I'm just here to verify the findings of the resource." You started with confidence as he slowly backed away.
"And what do you know of Vibranium? Are you aware that what you're here to verify could get you killed?" He questioned as he stared at me. You averted your eyes to avoid getting lost in his brown orbs.
"Killed? No. I'm not here to take Vibranium. I'm here to protect it." You replied and his expression became unreadable.
"Protect it? Is that why you're locked in this room? Protecting what you were trying to take from us." He asked, now amused.
"Again I was trying to stop them. I do have my ways. Which I would have used before you showed up." You said as he stepped closer.
“The only ones to protect vibranium aside from us are the Wakandans. Tell me, are Wakandan little one?” he asked and you felt your muscles tense. You figured the man took your silence as a yes as he turned to the woman. He mumbled something to her in that odd language before she gave a small nod. She grabbed your arm, leading you out the small room to the side of the boat. A small panic rushed through you as you expected them to throw you into the ocean below. You peered over the edge to see a whale floating at the bottom as if waiting for something. A blue arm grabbed your waist as you felt yourself falling towards the sea creature. You shut your eyes for the impact but you landed softly as quickly as you fell. You looked up at the blue woman who was responsible for pulling you off the edge with a glare.
"A warning would be great next time." You sighed as she took off the mask that was covering her face. She placed the piece over your own mouth and nose as she held the back of your head.
"Breathe." You suddenly felt as if you were floating as you breathed deeply into the mask. Your head fell backwards but instead of falling onto the whaleback you collided with a wet chest.
"Relax now little one. We have much more to discuss." A low voice said as you felt yourself sink underwater. When the whale began to descend deeper into the ocean you grabbed onto the hand holding your waist as the water pushed against your body. You used this moment to look around at the ruins littering the space before the whale dove again. You let your head rest on Namor’s shoulder as your head started spinning. You felt his lips next to your ear as you began to lose consciousness.
“Rest now.”

More of Eagle Fang!Hawk and Miyagi-Do!Reader ahead
@sensei-venus
Tumblr media
The idea that Hawk has no idea how to woo a girl is equal parts hilarious and sad. His friends have no idea how to help him because they know that no matter what they tell him, he's not going to listen. So they sit back and watch to see him either somehow succeed or crash and burn.
Reader is a little too shy to see his actions for what they are, or what they're supposed to be. She think it's just his way of being. After all, he pushes Nafe and other Miyagi-Do students around too, so how is she any different in his eyes? She doesn't realize that whenever they aren't partnered up together for training, he gets mad and takes out his anger on whoever was unfortunate enough to be his partner that day.
Things take a bit of a turn when everyone goes to the beach. The ladies convinced shy, sweet, chubby Reader to wear a bikini because they want to empower her and make her confident in herself. They want to break her our of her shell, but things don't go quite as planned.
While everyone is enjoying themselves, having fun playing volleyball or splashing around in the water, Reader is staying on the beach with a book. She's just minding her own business, chilling under the umbrella, when a guy walks by a makes a snide comment about how "whales shouldn't wear bikinis." It touches a nerve, especially since she was feeling pretty good about herself up until that point.
She tries to cover up with her towel and hide all her curves and fat while tears brim her eyes. Mind you, this entire time, Hawk had been checking her out all day, unable to really take his eyes off of her ever since they got there. Now all of a sudden she's scrambling to cover up and Hawk's stomach twists up in knots.
So he goes over and sits with her, throwingnhis arm around her kind of brutishly and pulls her close. He's trying to be comforting without anyone else realizing it and it's a fucking disaster. Like, everyone sees that and is like "what the fuck is he doing?" and believing that whatever happened, Hawk is making it worse.
Anyway, Reader ends up telling him what was said and he gets mad. He asks her who said it and she just points out the guy without thinking much of it. She's rubbing the tears from her eyes and when she looks up, Hawk is gone and she doesn't know where he went.
Next thing anyone knows, Hawk is bloodying the sand with that guy's face. It takes Miguel and two other guys to pull him off of the guy and drag him to the car before someone calls the cops. They get out of there pretty fast after that, and the whole ride back from the beach, Reader can't decide if she's more frightened or flattered by Hawk's actions.
It takes several days for her to come to some kind of conclusion. On one hand, no one's ever gone out of their way to do something like that for her, but on the other hand this is Hawk we're talking about. She's a little conflicted as the feelings start to bubble up, but she thinks a guy like him couldn't possibly like her. He shows no interest in her after all, pushing all her buttons and teasing her everyday, laughing at her when she whines or whimpers.
She's convinced he doesn't like her like that and there's nothing else to it.
They continue to train like normal but it seems Hawk's attempts at making Reader his have ramped up. On days when he isn't partnered up with her, he now uses them to try showing off and impressing her. He's seen the way she looks at him now after what happened at the beach and he takes that as a sign to keep beating up people. Anyone who looks at her the wrong way gets their teeth kicked in and a free nose job. It's still a big shock to her, but when he tells her they were laughing behind her back or that they said something about her, she's a little more at ease with it.
Reader eventually confesses to Sam about these new feelings she's been having. Hawk used to make her nervous before, but never like this, where her face gets super hot and her heart feels like it's about to burst out of her chest. Her hands get shaky and she end up rambling whenever he's around. Samnis shocked by the admission, especially when Reader says, "But I know a guy like him could never like me."
And Sam loses it. "Are you kidding me? He's literally beating the shit out of people for you. He's been trying to ingress you and get your attention for months. His attempts at flirting are so bad, I'm not surprised you haven't noticed, but he literally looks st you as if you're the sun, moon, and stars."
"That can't be true-"
"When he pins you down, it turns him on. Why would I make that up?"
Even with all of that said, Reader is still unsure. It isn't until Hawk tries to make his move does she see it.
Another little putting with their friends, this time to the movies. Hawk is sitting right beside Reader and when it's nice and dark in the theater, he puts his arm around her. She doesn't think much of it, but when they're a distant amount into the movie, he puts a hand on her thigh and squeezes it. She squeaks out of shock and a little embarrassment, looking at Hawk and silently asking him what was thay for.
He only chuckles and leans in close to her. "God, your cute."
She gets hot and looks down, trying to hide how he effects her, but he sees it. He tilts her head up and kisses her, taking her by surprise. All those things Sam told her come flooding back and she realizes that it's true, he likes her. She has no idea what to do, though, and freezes up.
This causes Hawk to pull back and sigh. "Shit... I knew it was a long shot. A sweet thing like you actually like a brute like m-mffph!"
Reader doesn't let him finish, finding some ounce of courage to pull him back to her and kiss him. He melts into it immediately and pulls her close.
They're feverishly kissing each other, then haphazardly making out as they navigate the theater seats. She's so soft and heavy, he wants her on top of him, so he all but pulls her onto his lap except for the fact that the seats are not made for that whatsoever and she's left halfway sitting in his seat with him. It's a mess.
When he makes Reader moan by squeezing her sides, Miguel is the first person to look over and catch an eyeful of the pair finally understanding each other. Demetri sees it and almost chokes on his drink because in all honestly he thought it was never going to happen.
Reader shyly pulls away, suddenly aware that the darkness of the theater doesn't give them any cover at all and their friends can see them. She whimpers and hides her face in Hawk's neck, hoping to avoid any and all embarrassment. Hawk just puts his arms around her and smirks, basking in the sweet victory of finally getting with Reader.

You can blame the anime Ushio and Tora for this idea.
Trollhunters but every time Jim uses the amulet, he slowly becomes a troll.
Let me explain. In the show Ushio and Tora, there's an weapon called the Beast Spear. A magical item that grants the wielder the power to slay evil spirits. Though there is a cost as the wielder will eventually become a beast, specifically Tora's species: Azafuse for 2015 reboot or Bakaneko in the original series.
Amulet of Daylight had always been made for Trollkind but it never gotten a human holder before. Well, at least until it chosen a certain Jim Lake Jr. Knowing who made the amulet and Merlin's skewed viewpoint about how things should be handled... I won't be surprised if he added such a function.
Now it starts as a slow process that wouldn't be noticable at first. His skin begins to feel dry, grows a bit hairier, teeth looking a bit sharp. Subtle changes as the deeper the transformation, the harder it is to reverse it. Next an odd coloration to his skin akin to bruising in some spots alongside minor headaches and toothaches.
The signs something is wrong will become noticeable to Jim when he finds dry blood on his pillow from the small horn nubs and some teeth fall out to be replaced with troll tusks later. His skin drying out until it flakes off to reveal soft clay skin like a scorpion molting. Further changes are more painful though mainly cause it involves his insides.
Jim's skin hardening to stone, his ring finger merging with the middle, horn growth, and two toes on both feet merge together aren't gonna be as painful as this. If I were to describe the pain, I say it's like being molded, stretched then dried in fire similar to clay. Albeit the clay is human bones and organs.
Things only get worse as certain items such as the Gritshaka, Gravesand and the Triumbric Stones accelerates the process. Yup! Jim's Eclipse armor practically triples the transformation speed but also set his new troll species: Gumm-Gumm. Specifically one just like Gunmar albeit more like an opposite. If the Gumm Gumm King is Yin, then Jim shall be his Yang.
He purifies those converted by Gunmar, undo Creeper's Sun poison and potentially so much more. A living manifestation of what a Heartstone is meant to do than Jim's twisted opposite. To heal instead of rot.
Jim's transformation would fully be completed during his stay in the Darklands as Gunmar's Decimaar Blade will speed up the process as well. He got his wish in a way. Jim replaced his son species wise but he will never control the Trollhunter.
Reunions for Team Trollhunters and the Lake Family is gonna be very awkward. Everyone, especially Jim, needs a shit ton of hugs. Someone needs to let Barbara whale on Merlin with a broom.
I just realized an Ushio and Tora AU would definitely fit with Draal as Tora while Jim takes Ushio's role. Although Jimbo will need a curse item like a prototype or twisted amulet replica and accidentally turns Draal into a Demon Troll using it. It takes place at least a year before Trollhunters canon mainly for shenanigans. Kanijar completely unaware of his son getting into trouble and then finding out in the most insane way sounds hilarious to me.
Bular fits too as Tora was quite antagonistic at the beginning. He also ate humans until he was imprisoned. Bular had been kidnapped by humans before in canon so it would be plausible to have him sealed up in someone's basement by an object like a long sword.
That's my opinion anyway.
Edit: You guys can also have a shot at this! I crave chaos and I love to see what people can come up with.

i actually used to be a very "WATCH BLACKFISH!1!111" "eMpTy tHe tAnkS" seaworld = bad sort of person. It wasn't until I actually started listening to people who considered themselves "pro-seaworld" or "pro-animal welfare" until I really realized something.
People base their hatred against seaworld against exaggerated or straight up false information. Sources like PETA/SeaWorldofHurt or the dolphin project are the most common ones that I've seen. PETA in itself is obviously not a good source whatsoever (the claim that Corky killed Amaya still astounds me) and I lost all respect for The Dolphin Project when they criticized Winter's trainers after her passing and suggested that they were immoral for rescuing her and letting her have a permanent home with her caretakers instead of just... letting her die.
No, SeaWorld's orcas aren't forced to perform. I visited SWSA this summer and Tuar just straight up decided to not do the splash segment. Kyuquot soloed the entire segment and Tuar still got his fish. Simple as that. Dorsal collapse isn't caused by depression, there are perfectly healthy killer whales in the wild with collapsed dorsal fins. A lot of the claims like "they separate orca mothers and calves!!11" are outdated too. The last mother/calf separation that was not for medical reasons was Takara and Trua in 2009.
Is SeaWorld a perfect angel? No, of course not. There are plenty of valid criticisms against SeaWorld such as their cancellation of The Blue World Project or investing more into coasters than renovating their animal exhibits. Just if you're going to argue against SeaWorld, use valid arguments.
Also obviously don't go after the trainers. It's honestly disgusting when I see comments like "I HOPE THE WHALE EATS THE TRAINER". Those trainers know that animal much better than you, Beth.
Support your AZA accredited facilities.
Yes to all of this. The Dolphin Project is every bit as bad as PETA. They're probably worse in some ways... to my knowledge, PETA hasn't illegally released captive dolphins into the open ocean. It's infuriating that their pages are what pops up whenever someone googles any topic related to killer whales or SeaWorld, and it's why I don't trust most people who say "I did my own research." A Google search isn't research.

I meant to send this yesterday, but did you ever mention what exactly Josh is? I honestly don’t remember there ever being clarification (and if there was it totally went over my head) and while i was rereading for the umpteenth time Josh was referred to by splinter as “the copper one” and my mind kinda went “Excuse me, Copper???” I figured he was a Yokai of some kind but then we know that Rose is a witch/from witch town (right?) so whenever I vision Josh is just a very wobbly image of some nerdy buff guy idk and he’s always wearing a blue shirt for some reason :P
Lol well you're pretty close! Josh and his brother and sister are all witches from Witch Town and look vaguely humanish, as Yokai witches are shown to be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like yes, these people are undoubtedly Not Human, but unlike many other Yokai they don't seem to be anything else in particular. (in general-I see Lion Dude up there, but he's an outlier) (I've actually thought a lot about the lore of Witch Town and I have no idea if I'm going to end up using any of it so I might do a write-up one of these days)
Josh and his family (his twin sister, their little brother, and the little brother's husband, and maybe his niece I haven't decided if she exists here) all live in Witch Town and run an apothecary. They actually met Bella because the little brother Reed (who I apparently haven't even referenced by name yet, sorry Reed) was her bodyguard while she competed in the Nexus. He got into some debt and the debt was then purchased by Big Mama, and he refused to fight for her. Big Mama basically rigged his contract so he could never pay her back, effectively enslaving him, and had his tongue cut out for talking back to her too many times. He got assigned to Bella because she already knew how to sign, they became friends, and when she left she bought out his contract. Turns out his sister was hot and his brother was her platonic soulmate, so happily ever after. (Bella and Reed are still really good friends, they're just less reasons to mention him because his skills aren't really plot-relevant)
Josh is definitely a nerd, he's pretty tall and broad-shouldered but skinny. He's kind of pink, not intensely so but definitely a few shades into 'not a human skin color'. His hair is either blond or he's a very light redhead, depending on how I feel that day. He has an extremely prominent nose, which...I just realized that doesn't sound good, considering he's Jewish. Okay, to be fair, when I designed him he was not Jewish. He's a Dishonored OC, the Dishonored world does not have any real-world religions, they have one twink who is also a whale as their god and their religion is centered around hating on him. I made Josh Jewish because Bella was Jewish and I kind of liked the idea of her bonding with him and his family over that. (I don't know why Bella is Jewish, she just Was) (also Bella and Josh aren't religiously Jewish-they're atheists)
Rose looks pretty similar, except she's much shorter (which vexes her greatly, as she's the oldest) and her hair is more of a ginger color. Reed however is massive, taller than his brother and super buff, like 'body of a Greek god' but unironically. His coloring is more pinkish-purple and darker because he has a different father. Everyone thirsts over him and he is entirely oblivious. His husband got a lot of high-fives when he put a ring on it. (and a lot of jealous glowers, especially when the story of how he proposed with a BBQ sandwich came out)
Splinter calls him 'the copper one' because their last name is Copperspoon but he couldn't remember. (he's old) And they have that name because their mother is this bitch:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Delilah Copperspoon, bisexual poly witch and bastard daughter of an emperor. She's such a wonderfully evil character.

I hate having to do that but hey
If you are on Twitter be aware of these two
Tumblr media
This guy Arox is someone who insist Engage flopped. Many people try to correct him and he just accuse them of coping.
For context, he came to one post that wasn't directed to him and started calling me a liar for saying that Engage costed less to make then 3H and was aiming at Awakening's result, keeping on quoting the interview where they said they wanted Engage to have an Awakening effect (and apparently failing to realize what it meant)
And I tried to explain several time how one can deduce from the data we know that Engage might have a smaller bugdet then 3H and that the comparison with Awakening infered they wanted a result more in line with Awakening... well
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you see what I am dealing with. I repeat, we will never know unless we have Satori maiden's power what was the exact budget or the exact number of sales that was expected. All we have are the interview and data concerning the developpement. I already said it but again, if the devs had said they wanted Engage to bring a new audience like 3H did, we would all be expecting that they wanted to reach 4 million sales in 4 years. If they compared it to Awakening, is it really that crazy to deduce they expected to sell at least 2 millions ?
Again, 3H is a much bigger game then Engage. When you read that Engage was originally an anniversary game developped in parallel time as 3H, with a split of team, that their main project was 3H, if you take into account that 3H was delayed for no reason unlike Engage that was delayed just for COVID reason and receives additional developpement because people had time to kill, that 3H had much more cut content including entires chapter unlike Engage who had only some units and voice line, 3H whom we know was rushed unlike Engage who was already ready in its release to the point we got the DLC announced right after, etc you can deduce that Engage costed much less to produce then the gigantic 3H. It has nothing to do with Awakening and Fates cause I never, at no point said Engage has a lower budget then those two nor even a low budget, but simply that it was lower then 3H's but it's like comparing an elephant with a whale. It's not cause the whale is bigger that the elephant isn't big, it's just not as big.
I linked him to post talking about it, to people talking about it and he kept calling me a liar because "it's not explicetely said !" and maybe I was at fault for sounding to sure about it when it's mainly my deduction on the matter, however, he clearly made no effort to actually pay attention or even engage with what I said but he received many other people telling him that being the 4th best selling game is not a flopped and never listened to them and...guess why
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For context, it's about the Best strategy game award.
Basically, if you see him don't try to argue or make a point he won't listen. Just scroll away or block him.
And now.
Tumblr media
Beware of this weirdo. It's an Alear hater that hates the game and keeps commenting that Alear is a and I quote "disguistingly hellishyly ugly pedophilia and incest supporter" under random fanart or content of Alear. They commented that on a literal fanart of them eating ice cream with Sommie ! And I know them. It's the same as this maniac rabbit fangirl of Chrobin and CorrinxCamillar who hates M!Robin and called him a "pedophile" cause they don't like that he can marry Lucina and called F!Corrin slurs because they prefer M!Corrin. I remember seeing them commenting on of on Phoenix Master 's FEH tutorial videos and comment about M!Robin and F!Morgan hateful stuff for no other reason then them being the unit used !!!! I bet it's one again one of those people who still understand even though it was debunked, that Anna and Veyle are NOT romance in the JPn version. Anna's support literaly ends in the same way as Ricken's in Awakening where they aren't in a romantic relationship at the end ! And I still wonder how someone can read Veyle's PR support and goes "ah yes, my sister said she would jump of joy if I were to wake her up to, how romantic" ?!
And not to mentionned that it's incredibly rude to comment on a fanart of someone who clearly likes that character that the character sucks, but even comment on stuff that can be very trigering to hear ?! I personally think incest and pedophilia are super important matter that you should not comment on lightly, so seeing someone who genuinely throws that in a comment about a fictional character because of nothing but "I don't like this" tends to make my blood boil.
I personally am tired of these two, they aren't worth your time. I am not a fan of call out post, but really I am also too old for that sort of thing

Book 93, 2023
We all have a favourite sort of fascist author who killed themselves in a really poorly thought out coup with his personal militia, right? Right. But did you know Yukio Mishima also wrote a comedic novel? Or maybe a satire? I'm not entirely sure but I'm pretty sure it's a dark comedy although I know I tend to interpret things as comedic that other people say are, in fact, not (Welcome to Nightvale, Titus Andronicus, that part of "Moby Dick" where Ishmael tells you all the things that aren't whales).
"Life for Sale" is /wild/. It reminds me a bit of Kafka's "The Trial", but if K. intentionally instigated the titular trial, instead of just being subjected to it (which may seem entirely counter to the nature of "The Trial" but the brain makes the connections that it will).
"Life for Sale" is about a man who realizes he finds no worth in his life, so he puts an ad in the newspaper to sell his life to any interested applicants, which amounts to "in exchange for money, arrange and use the circumstances of my death in a way that benefits you". Instead of straightforward insurance schemes, our protagonist finds himself embroiled in increasingly complicated and absurd circumstances and conspiracies that rise to the level of global politics, while he continues to not be successfully killed.
Lacking the context of time and place Mishima was writing about, I'm sure the more pointed qualities of the satire would be evident, but from a story perspective it's fascinating, and the sticky grimey disaffection with post-war Japan reminds me of works like "Forbidden Colours" and "The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea".
I love it. It was the last book I read in 2023 and a gloriously powerful note to end on.

Why does "Christian Media" Suck?
Christian Media is a bland, bleached, and sterile type of media, whose target demographic is children under 10 who have "concerned" parents who are mad because "Paw Patrol is trying to push a gay-furry agenda".
Even when these shows reference Bible verses, they are heavily censored and bleached as to not "offend" the often Mormon or Protestant parent's sensibilities.
This creates a strange situation in those communities, where despite theoretically doing Bible study; both the parents and children don't actually know what's in the Bible.
They know the sterilized "family friendly" variant.
And the fictionalized version of "hell is real and you should fear it."
"Allow us to introduce ourselves." - Warner Brothers, presumably.
That's not to say there aren't good stories, even outside the bleached Bible, vaguely religious standards in the series created for their indoctrination purposes.
But they're always created as an alternative to "standard programming that is trying to brain wash the kids" and somehow end up being more expensive than cable, because fear of your child going to hell REALLY drives sales.
Have you ever walked past a store that sold "Christian Media"? There's two thoughts that enter a person's mind as they walk by. The first is: "I cannot afford to save my child from the grips of hell." And the second is: "That is the *weird* Christian's store. Which I will not enter again. Because they act like they've never interacted with a human being before."
The entire industry is propped up by Mormons--by the way. In case you were unaware. (And to a lesser extent Protestants)
For the rest, the consumers are mostly people who are suffering from severe depression and/or are stuck in situations they can't get out of. And they're using the media (like Televangelists) as a prayer/meditation tool. Because they keep promising: "If you have enough faith, eventually, you'll be rewarded." But that day never comes for many of them.
And instead of, you know, doing anything to help the viewers, they keep asking for donations to keep doing what they do. Which makes them the kings of whale hunting. Because their average viewer can't donate.
[just realized that the churches that seat by income are so those in the back can take from the donation plate if they need it. Which is admirable, but chasing a symptom.]
It doubles as a correctional tool "Don't be like those in the back kids. Because we'll keep you there." And they see those in the back never getting ahead, or disappearing, so they know they're telling the truth.
Remember parents; some kids were never spared the rod, and they still endure. Some kids were spared the rod, and never had to.

Normalcy
I head to bed still sort of mourning the last two weeks. I miss being the peppier of the two of us in bed, the discussions we'd have until Walt's voice would trail off into snores. Normalcy means going back to unfulfilling interest rates and to the very occasional case of a client giving me the impression that we've landed them a good deal. Normalcy means going back to listening in on juniors who toss all caution to the wind and figure they're authorized to shit out APRs on the spot.
It's mildly irksome, and I mention as much to Walt. He has me scooch closer while he squirms his way into his groove in the mattress.
"It's not like we deal with Nissan; these people aren't in do-or-die situations. Mercedes, Audi, BMW - these client bases don't move unless they want to. We're just paid to give them a little nudge," he tells me.
I glance up at him. "So everyone's satisfied?"
Walt rolls his eyes and smirks behind his mustache, rubbing my scalp with a hand as he speaks. "Look at you, all anxious about work performance when Sarah and I both know you're the armchair Marxist of the three of us."
Coming from him, this is high praise indeed. I reach up and kiss him.
"Hey, mister bourgeoisie - wanna see this prole rebel in bed?"
That rips a chuckle out of him. "Let's not get too wild, I'm in more of a cuddling mood and Sarah needs some shut-eye."
I'm starting to realize that Walt's responsiveness is correlated to how intense we get. If I don't want loud effusions because one of the polycule is actually sleeping, I just need to keep it slow. We do just that, which results in Walt giving me the warmest gaze in existence at the end of the proceedings.
I've got the old CEO on the brain. "Promise me you won't let this job get to you again," I tell him. "I remember the cabin, how desperate you felt."
Walt gently grasps my head in both his hands. "Not ever again. I'll be the complete inverse of our old boss, hon: soft and pliable, not an ounce of athleticism, wholly devoted to the pursuit of our family's pleasures, and ordained by the Church of Cholesterol."
I laugh, and so does he. He's not serious, obviously, but acts like he is. "No, seriously! All the men in the family that were lucky enough to reach their eighties or nineties ate like whales, smoked like chimneys and devoted most of their calorie intake to being devoted husbands! Uncle Vernon, the outdoorsman of the family, died at fifty-three from lung cancer. He was an ultramarathoner and a non-smoker."
By that point, doubt creeps on. "Shut up. - you're serious?"
He signs himself and raises a hand. "Serious as can be. All the men in the George family seem to be genetically predisposed to be around my weight, and those that aren't or that fight against their own metabolism either die young or end up miserable."
I hang for a second, then feign getting out of bed. "I'm heading to the corner store and buying you Mrs. Butterworth syrup or whatever; it'll probably start featuring on your 'scripts from the GP."
As he knows I'm not serious, Walt pulls me back in while chuckling. "Let's not overdo it, though," he cautions, smirking as he does.
A few moments pass. I feel him drift away, but know he's not gone yet.
"So, we're a family?"
He grunts in the affirmative. "Beyond our usual fetishes, kiddo. You, me and Sarah. The usual advice is family shouldn't run a business, but the Steinbergs and Péladeaus might disagree..."*
I'm made aware of how lucky I am. A different work placement referral could've landed in my lap and I never would've met Walt or Sarah. I never would've developed the fundaments of my current job. I'd be someone else entirely, doing something else entirely.
I wouldn't have this family. My former execs are grieving, and I feel like I jumped off of a leaking eighteenth-century brig and onto a small, if sleek and spacious ultramodern yacht.
"Thanks, Walt," I then say. Either he's too far gone to ask why or he just gets it, but Walt just squeezes me a little closer and mutters "You're so welcome, Grem," before drifting off into snores.
Thanks, Walt.
Never have two words felt so inadequate in expressing the true scope of my gratitude. It's a little too late for effusions, though...
*The Steinberg family ran one of Quebec's formerly-prominent grocery store chains for decades, and the Péladeau family heads one of our biggest telecom providers

I listened to a few episode of the Land Whale Murders before deciding I wasn't jiving with the humor, and the final nail in the coffin was the handful of jokes where a bigotted character is the butt of the joke for doing something bigotted. Like the type of humor where a character says something prejudiced and then immediately walks into and smacks their head on a doorframe. Sure this type of joke is saying [insert prejudice here] is bad, but that's such a milquetoast position to take, and these jokes are mostly just an annoying reminder that these prejudices exist in real life and you can't even escape them in a fictional comedy
But I realized I love the Vanishing Act, which frequently features a similar type of bigots are fucking stupid humor. Why do I find it funny in The Vanishing Act but an unwelcome annoyance in The Land Whale Murders? What do you need in order to make this type of humor work?
(I don't have any conclusions, this is just me spitballing and putting my tentative thoughts and possibilities into words)
Is it the scale of the stupid? The nazi's in tva are so, so, so stupid. They believe obvious lies. They miss what is going on right in front of their faces. One of them wholeheartedly believes that a popup book gave him a secret message to find Atlantis and he's determined to use a time travel machine to get there. Which is so unexpected and such an unbelievably stupid plan anyway that it's funny. The bigots in tlwm (of the two episodes I listened to) express beliefs that are only a notch or two above real life bigoted views, and given how ridiculous every other single character is, this doesn't feel like the full strength condemnation it's supposed to be
In tva the bigots are irredeemably evil, even when they're funny and humanized. Sure this nazi general is just a stupid frat boy who doesn't actually care about all this nazi stuff all that much and is coasting through life on family connections, but the narrative reinforces that he's still a piece of shit who ruins people's lives. Yes, he's laughably pathetic AND yes, he's evil and a legitimate and frightening threat to the main characters. In tlwm, Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt is a bumbling oaf who is in a friendly fight club with the city's squirrel population. Oh and also he's antisemitic
Is it the expectation of it? Tva takes place in 1930's Berlin. You knew, from the very first line of the summary, from the very first line of the very first trailer, that anti-semitism would come up. The threat of it looms over every second of the show, even when there aren't currently any direct references to it. Tlwm takes place in an alternate (possibly fantasy and/or steampunk) 1890's New York. It's always a toss up whether alternate/fantasy historic fiction will include historical prejudices, or to what extend it will include them. The trailers reference prejudices, but there isn't the instant assumption of it like in tva
In tlwm the minority/discriminated against characters parrot the prejudices. One of the characters literally introduces herself with the dismissive nickname her coworkers give her. Which is a detail that becomes worse and worse the more I think about it
tlwm has the dreaded "not all [insert minority here] know each other! ... *sigh* Yeah I do know [name]," and the equally dreaded "Do you not trust me with responsibility because I'm a woman? Oh, it's actually because of [valid reason]? Yeah okay I get that." The presence of those two jokes doesn't inspire confidence that the prejudices will be handled well throughout the rest of the show
tlwm the jokes about the police don't land for me because they're basically "haha we've acknowledged that police suck and police brutality exists, how unexpected!" and then they don't say anything deeper than that. Plus we have a sympathetic character who wants to be a police officer, which makes the narrative feel like it's talking out of both sides of its mouth (disclaimer I only listened to a few episodes so this might be set up for this character's arc and realizing the job ain't worth shit)

My thoughts and all the things I love about Lovely Us (2020)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This drama really surprised me with how good it was written and made despite already knowing that this is highly rated by my cdrama mutuals. First ep right off the bat made me laugh and cry. The following eps kept the flow really well and established the characters and their relations. Before I know it, I'm already in love and attached to the characters and everything about this drama. It's very charming, calming and heartwarming to watch. The acting, writing, execution, ost, and production are well-done.
Set in 2007, this is another drama with nostalgic vibe that will remind you of your childhood and probably teenage years as well of your old neighborhood and the people you used to hang out with when you're younger. Even though I'm kinda fed up with childhood friends to lovers trope by now, this one did it the right way. Romance is slowburn but the buildup isn't slow at all. The main cp are so cute despite the daily bickerings that you just can't help but root for them to be together. It also have unrequited love trope where you'll see the character continuously root for that person and not expecting anything in return. There's no antagonist/evil characters in this story, just your feel-good slice-of-life drama with a touch of teenage romance in it.
Another strong point this drama have is the friendship and family dynamics. The five main leads have such amazing and solid friendship and their chemistry with each other is very natural to watch you'll wish you have the kind of friendship they have. It's endearing how their respective families are friends with one another and the parents have absolute trust with their children even allowing them to stay in closed room, have overnight at their house without adult supervision and even go to outdoor camping sharing one tent. It's refreshing to see how they showcased different parenting styles in each household and the parents aren't portrayed as someone controlling, instead they understand and communicate with their children. There's even one case wherein a parent realized he's doing it wrong so he asked for advice and help from his son's friend in order to get closer with his son.
Unlike other dramas, this one never drags out misunderstandings and touches the issue in the most heartwarming way that it never felt annoying or frustrating to watch, instead I became emotional at those moments that I can't help but shed a tear or ugly cry.
The characters are funny, full of mischief but sweet and thoughtful on the inside. It's a delight to watch them get together and have their little meetings, bicker and help each other out.
The ost will surely stay on repeat in my playlist for the next few days or weeks even. The song choices fit the mood so well and I find myself heavily lss-ed with the opening song. The song "Can I See You Tomorrow?" gives off the ultimate nostalgic vibe and reminds me of one ISWAK ost.
What really stood out to me the most are the moments in each ep wherein a certain character will narrate his/her thoughts about love, life, and family. They're beautifully and oftentimes poetically written matching with flashback scenes that made the dialogue even more heartfelt.
Here are some of the lines that are deeply engraved in my heart because they are beautifully written and will really go well as book passages:
"Once people become parents, their memory begins to become biased. They always remember they are their children's most reliable parents, but often forget that they are also children loved by their own parents. When they are waiting for their children to come back home, they forget that their own parents are also waiting for their return in a similar mood."
"The audio frequency of the sound when a snowflake falls on the water surface is over 50,000 Hz. Because it falls beyond human being's hearing range, this snowy day is still so quiet that it seems I can only hear my own heartbeat and that it seems there is only me and the person in front of me on this planet with a population of 6.6 Billion. I hope this world can be noiser so that I can pretend that I've never discovered this secret."
"They think that the probability is just 0.01, so they put on the emperor's new clothes, trying to hide their affections with magic. But affections are not that easy to hide. Even if the probability is pretty low, it will be revealed at a certain moment. So on that rainy night, while looking at her back, he found that the most obvious evidence of falling in love with her was the feeling of easement in his heart and the smile on his face when he looked at her."
"You think nothing will change as time flies by. But this time, the moment you let go and turn around, some things completely changed. The sun went down and before it rises again, some people will leave you forever. We always thought that there would be a big ceremony to say goodbye, so we keep waiting for a warm hug, a refreshing drink, and a heartfelt goodbye, but in the end, we realized that most goodbyes in our lives are all silent."
"At that silent corner in my mind, there are a number of weird illusions. For example, can I become Alice who enters the wonderland with White Rabbit? For example, can I become the little girl who enters the forest with Totoro? For example, is there some special switch in this box which can teleport me? No, none of them exist. There's no flying dragons or knights, and I'm not the heroine of some comics for girls, either. However, the only thing I'm sure about is that this escape greatly shocks my world. My palms would sweat, and my sight would be indistinct. Then my view becomes narrower and narrower until there's room for only one person in my eyes. After a long time, I know such a moment is named adventure, in which the one in your eyes is irreplaceable."
"The familiar chirping of cicadas on summer nights, the familiar bear doll who must lean by the lamb, the familiar lovely girl who frowns even when she sleeps, and the 17-yr-old time wrapped by the sense of familiarity never seem to have changed. The only difference is that when I look at the familiar him, I feel a flurry and uneasiness that I have never expected."
"There are many new days like today. Today, he holds my hand. Today, he holds me in his arms. Today, he carries me on his back and runs in the street in the early morning. Many days with him like today will eventually become my unforgettable past days. I'll remember days like today for a long time."
"Friendship means so much to us. It brings us close, and makes me flinch, so sometimes we just tell ourselves that as long as we're together, I can be just a friend of hers. But the taxi that I failed to catch, the phone calls that have been hung up, the time that's flying and my restless heart are telling me eagerly that in this world, both love and friendship are important. Every detail related to you is reminding me that we can't be just friends. So when it's still not too late, I have to tell you the things that I want to tell you as soon as possible. Huang Chengzi, I like you."
"In this world, it seems like all wishes have a guardian. Wishing wells, shooting stars, the aquarium's white whale. They're all hiding in the corners of the universe caressing the sorrow of loving someone alone. It's just that the god of happiness can't bless everyone out there. They let some people be happy and their wishes come true, and let some be sad, but they can't admit how sad they really are. The feeling of being in love is like a butterfly gently flapping its wings, that stirs up a hurricane in people's hearts. The second you realize it, then there's no escape."

Remember when this half was billed as when things get serious? Yet every time things started ramping up something threw the breaks on the tension. Salem is attacking? Sits around waiting for the cane nuke. Ironwood is going to bomb mantle? Convenient defections allows him to be defeated in about a minute. Penny will self-destruct! LMAO, make her a "real-girl". Only with one episode left are people actually in any appreciable danger and the main cast aren't dealing with the sideshows.
I don’t think RWBY gets that consequences needs to both occur and influence the narrative for a significant length of time, if not the rest of the story. As you say, anon, the vast majority of our big problems have been solved both too easily and with no downsides: Salem and the whale are blown up, Ironwood is stopped, Penny is saved. This just leaves minor consequences, all of which, while fulfilling that first requirement of existing, don’t impact the story in any meaningful way:
Nora does scar herself helping Penny. I think that’s the best RWBY has managed this volume (potentially excluding the finale right now for obvious reasons), but the problem is that Nora is still precisely the same Nora after this event. Is Nora inconvenienced in any way? No, she’s able to hope right back into the fight as soon as she’s fully conscious. Has she learned anything? No, because Ren reassures her that she did everything she should have. They don’t even talk about the scars past this generic reassurance, instead focusing on how Ren was supposedly a bad friend and Nora wants space  — a relationship conflict that may or may not develop further. What have these scars achieved? If they don’t change our character in any way, or change those around them, if they’re not a catalyst for something (notably, something other than giving the group an excuse to stay safe in the mansion considering the show never framed that as an excuse)... then they’re purely cosmetic filler. It’s just a more dramatic version of Nora getting a haircut like Blake and Jaune last volume. She has scars now, new character model! That’s it.
Penny becoming human. Same as everything above. Has a second near death experience and being given a human body changed Penny in any way? Doesn’t seem like it. Has it changed her battle style? No. Has it changed her goals, desires, outlook, or the challenges she faces? Again, not that we’ve seen. It’s cosmetic. Penny is precisely the same Penny she was prior to the change and I don’t mean that in a, “Penny was always herself” way, I mean it in a “Penny’s arc could be removed entirely from the story and it wouldn’t matter.”
We learn of a consequence from long ago in the form of Summer likely becoming a grimm servant of Salem. This is immediately dropped because there’s everything else to deal with.
We learn that Oscar used up a large portion of a magical weapon and automatically we don’t care because no one  — characters or audience  — knew that weapon existed to attach expectations to. But then this is also immediately dropped even though this is a limitation that should be a major concern of the cast.
Yang falls into a void. Everyone watching knows that she didn’t die. Maybe she’ll come out of this changed in some way... but based on everything above, it’s unlikely.
Cinder, as of the latest episode, has had the most development lately thanks to failure and consequences.
But RWBY’s main characters are incredibly static. No one has developed since Volume 6. No one has learned anything outside of objective info. Did they realize the horrible mistakes they made regarding Ozpin and learned to apologize? No, he apologized again, just as he did three volumes ago. Did they come to a better understanding of why their “We will make things perfect” mentality is dangerous? No, Ruby sat around in a mansion until the “perfect” answer came to her and she proceeded to ignore all the damage she caused in waiting around for it. Did Ren come to a better understanding of himself and help the group acknowledge their flaws? No, he was told he was wrong until he reverted to precisely who he’d been before: quiet and agreeable. Did Nora learn not to try to solve everything by hitting it really hard? No, she did precisely that, got injured, and was reassured that she could keep that up because it’s who she is. Did Yang likewise ever learn not to run into dangerous situations without thinking? No, she just repeated her actions from Volume 3, once again getting grievously injured. Have the bees made any progress in their relationship? No, they’re still at the forehead touch stage. Does Oscar have to work through anything after being physically and magically tortured for multiple episodes? No, he shrugs it off entirely and, once his aura comes back, the magicked away bruises tell the audience to forget it too. Has Oscar become a different person as the merge takes hold? Not unless we count his body language changing a little bit. The show keeps saying the merge is speeding up and that it’s this big, existential threat... but their dynamic is exactly what it was in Volume 4.
RWBY thinks of change in terms of things like, “Ren can randomly see emotions now,” not “Ren acknowledges something about their behavior and helps the group come to a better understanding of their actions, growing as people, not just fighters.” I don’t think the writers actually want the characters to change, not in any meaningful sense. Unless I’m proven incredibly wrong with Yang (here’s hoping) I suspect that our end volume crew will look exactly like they did in Volume 6, with the exception of some souped-up powers and, if we’re lucky, confirmation that sometimes they kiss their partner. That’s it. Regarding everything else, the characters will inevitably regress, or they’ll never be given the chance to develop in the first place, and that’s in large part because all of the stakes in the show now  — world-wide and personal  — are inevitably magicked away with the wand the show claims the characters don’t possess, but absolutely do.

<= Part 4 =>
Summary: If he wanted to come, he could have.
Tagged: @todosweetheart @afuckingunicornn
A/N: It's been a while since I wrote anything so I'm sorry for the inconsistencies. I made sure to look over it so I am hoping everything is okay lol Also, Val, I had forgotten you changed your name XD But I hope you enjoy this regardless. My writing isn't what it use to be but I only write when I feel in the mood so I hope you both enjoy this, and everyone else too~
"She is bruising up! She is losing too much blood! Y/n! Please!"
"Deku...!" Izuku stood up in front of his classmates, looking out to the stadium below where your body was lying motionless for everyone to see. You had not been hit by Todoroki regardless if that was the intention. He was trying to win and you had the same excuse, but you pushed yourself. You couldn't get a single scratch on him until he had assumed that he won. You were able to put him in the ground but he rolled away in time before you had the chance to smash him into the rocky floor. Your body began to wear out, your arms were giving up as they began to loosen upon you and that's when you began feeling wet. Something felt weird but it wasn't the water of any sort that was covering your arms, but the blood that was forming inside your arms. They began to bruise but you didn't think much of it and used your quirk to attack him again.
It took just a few seconds for you to feel the sharp pain, making you fall over and whale in pain. You had pushed yourself so hard that it popped some blood vessels and tore a ligament in your shoulder. Todoroki looked panicked but he didn't know what to do. Izuku quickly screamed out in fear, calling your name as the teachers stopped the match. Katsuki stood up from his seat, his eyes in utter shock. This couldn't be happening to me is what he thought, and his anger took over more and more until he jumped down to the lower levels to get to you. You were picked up and getting ready to be taken away but he caught up, his eyes angry, watering as if he felt like he was going to lose you.
"You damn idiot! Why the hell would you push yourself so hard, huh?!" His voice cracking but he continued to keep his anger to topple his worry and sadness.
"Bakugou, please, go back to your seat," Nightmare had asked which got ignored by the blonde.
"Were you trying to prove a fucken point by what, hurting yourself?!" He got closer to you, the stretcher holding your limp body. He was stopped by Todoroki who only held him back with a hand on his shoulder. The blonde looked back with blind rage but the heterochromatic eyes that looked back at him told him to calm down and that's all it took for Katsuki to growl under his breath and leave the stadium.
-
You were quickly rushed to Recovery Girl and were diagnosed. You had to rest in bed for quite a while until your arms could properly heal. Since popping a vessel can be healed in short of a few days with the help of medical professionals, what will be a hassle would be the shoulder that you tore. It wasn't a massive tear but it wasn't something that shouldn't be taken lightly. After all, you should have lost both your arms if they tore even more, and no thanks to you who wanted to push yourself against Todoroki. Really, it might have sucked but you tried.
Your thoughts might have been running a lot but they all stopped once you blacked out, and once you woke up again, they came back. The headache was intolerable making tears roll down your eyes as if they paused until your mind was able to process what was happening.
The first thing you saw was the walls. You recognized them. Of course, you felt stiff and a lot more pain than you anticipated, but at least the silence got you to sigh in relief.
"It seems like I couldn't make it, huh," You had asked yourself with a sigh coming right after. You wondered if Todoroki was disappointed in his victory or was he glad about it. There was no reason for him to not be glad but what do you know. I'm sure as heck that I don't.
A sudden sound of a door sliding open caught your attention. You assumed it was Recovery Girl but the familiar green hair and expression made your eyes soften, remembering how those same eyes were still very much the same as the ones looking back at you right now.
"Your arms," He had said, walking in and closing the door behind him, his eyes still trailing the bandages on your arms. Your smile was forced but you did it to not worrying him which only made him worry even more.
"I'm okay. I was told to rest. My arms aren't as bad as they seem.” If you moved then maybe the pain will come back for a split second. It felt a bit suffocating to feel Izuku here but who else was going to come aside from your classmates?
“Y/n, you’ve been noticeably pushing yourself and you make it seem like everything is okay.”
“Because everything is okay.”
“But you’re hurt, Y/n. Do you not see that?” Maybe it wasn’t the best idea to push your limits in this case even when it is just for fun. Has it ever stopped Izuku from doing the same? You watched him how he destroyed himself just to make a point and win against Todoroki but he lost, and his wounds were more severe than you’d had seen. You don’t know how the boy in front of you got a quirk but he did and he was now telling you the same advice you were sure he was told.
“How about you take your own advice, Izuku,” You had told him, a soft sigh escaping your lips. “I understand you are worried but I’m fine. Really.” You were able to tell that he was not satisfied with your response. He walked closer to you and sat at the chair that was near your bed. It was only there because Recovery Girl was talking to you as she made sure you were okay. You had focused on the boy, not realizing that he had begun to talk again.
“I understand how you feel about Kaachan but he is truly is worried about you.”
“I can’t really say that’s true when he doesn’t show his feelings towards anyone. All he does is get angry.” It went silent again and neither one of you said a single thing, not even when Izuku left the room to let you rest. Your thoughts were cloudy and you weren't sure if the only reason you felt like that was because Izuku came to see you. He mentioned Katsuki knowing that you felt some sort of way about him. Of course, he knew.
It had been a while of just sitting around, seeing a lot of your classmate enter and disappear, going back to the probably rowdy lunch room. You were astonished by the student coming in and out, questioning you whether or not you were okay. Your sadden eyes took notice of the look on some of their faces, showing signs of worry and you hadn't felt cared for in this way for a long time. It was even more apparent in Izuku's eyes, the way his lips tried turning upright into a smile but quickly turned into a frown.
Going through the many possibilities of what to do as you rested, the groans came out each time you tried adjusting yourself, your arms aching, becoming stiff when you moved them on top of your lap. It was getting late at this point, noticing that the sun outside was now setting, the beautiful oranges and pinks painting the sky. It looked very out of the ordinary but it was beautiful nonetheless. In the short time it took you to be mesmerized, recovery girl had entered the room, her clipboard in hand and someone else following her. It was Todoroki and Kirishima, looking guilty and you right away noticed it. You wondered if they were gonna apologize when it wasn't even their faults.
"Heyy," Kirishima's nervous voice elongating his greeting. Todoroki didn't say anything but you meeting his eyes was enough of a greeting to you. "How're you feeling?" The red headed added, coming closer to the bed with Todoroki trailing behind him.
"I'm okay. I should recover pretty soon," You answered with a soft smile.
"Was it serious?" Todoroki was the one to ask this time, and you tilted your head slightly to the side.
"In a way? But I'm fine." Your short responses only gave the boys knots in their stomach. Kirishima wasn't here for himself but he also wanted to apologize to you, remembering that the reason he was here was because of Bakugou.
"Hey, um, I'm sorry you ended up like this. I'm also sorry Bakugou caused a scene."
You shook your head. "I'm used to it. I've known him for years. It's not the first time he caused a scene like that especially in front of that many people."
Kirishima gave you a small smile, and rub the back of his neck. "I actually came on behalf of Bakugou. He was suppose to come but he didn't have the courage to do so. I'm sorry, he said he didn't want to but knowing him, I know it's because he's too shy."
Katsuki? Shy? Since when? You were completely confused but you felt as if asking would just make you sound dumb. The blonde was an aggressive Pomeranian who never thought and just acted on his feelings. You couldn't remember much of what happened but you heard his voice, and it was worrisome, which troubled you greatly. Nonetheless, you didn’t want to get your hopes up when it came to Bakugou. It will turn bad if your hopes just became that, hope.
You shook your head in disbelief and lightly smiled to Katsuki’s friend, making him a bit nervous when you tried adjusting yourself. “By the way, who won?” Both boys looked at each other, and Kirishima decided to respond for the both of them.
“It should be a given. He won a second time in a row.” You didn’t know whether to jump in joy , and even the faces of the boys seem off to you that it felt like they wanted you to be happy for the guy. You told yourself that you shouldn’t be but… maybe this time-
“I’m… glad he won.” It should have been convincing enough, but maybe not entirely, either way, Todoroki and Kirishima took the hint and didn’t press on, their now nervous expressions becoming softer. After the awkward silence, Kirishima smiled and reassured you that everything with Bakugou will be okay. Todoroki didn’t really know how to say goodbye so he nodded with a light blush, walking out before Kirishima. They were gone and the room became quiet again.
You hadn’t realized that you had been holding your breath, exhaling and letting the heaviness of your heart finally deplete as you laid back into your pillow. “Am I really glad he won?”
You had left the infirmary with a brace holding your arm in place. You went home with you parents, walking into your room and sitting on your bed with your mind very much occupied with the events that happened today. You looked around with your eyes pinpointing a small plush that was gifted to you at a young age. It was nothing too weird, just a regular cat plush that a particular blonde had gifted to you. He was sweet back in middle school, even if he was bullying Deku all the time.
You walked over to it, looking it over and inspecting it with the saddest eyes and smile. You let it go, playing it next to your old instruments you don’t play anymore. It will gather up dust if it stays there, but that’s okay. You felt like this was better than letting him get to your head. He rarely came to you unless it was to fight and argue, and even Deku was no exception. They aren’t your friends anymore, but you’re glad they are striving, and you have to do the same.

My Top Posts in 2021
#5
watched ginny o.'s recent videos and it's fascinating to realize sso is basically a dead game.
overall players which signed up to sso is 21 million. monthly active players in 2021 are 640K. so the % of active players is 3%. 97% of people who try sso, leave. it's not even 5%. it's a completely dead game by industry standards. i also checked other mmos and WoW in 2017 had active player % of 84%.
i think it shows how entirely focused on the close term instead of long term sso is. they make money, but their existence as a company lacks any values or goals: their strategy is to get as many new players as possible, make sure they get money out of them and then move on to get more new players. because they know players don't stay long, that's the best way to make money. so they live off new players (who still have things to do in the game or are charmed by the game world still) until they get bored and leave (and maybe also off whales).
on one hand, it makes me happy sso is "dead", because if it's like this, it means people's dissatisfaction shows in numbers - and maybe sso will finally be pushed to change and improve. on the other hand, this strategy of being a company with literally no purpose besides making money is doing good for them. new players aren't part or are even aware of the fandom, aka those who advocate for #noSC etc. so i also think there's a chance they might not change at all in the near future.
