I have acquired a boysenberry plant, and thereby a lot of feelings.

I grew up picking boysenberries at my grandparents' place every summer. Grandma had somehow gotten cuttings off Walter Knott (of Knott's Berry Farm fame--no, I still don't know how, no one ever found out, she just DID THINGS LIKE THAT) and planted them all over a rambling terraced slope behind the garage. Every summer, the grandkids (mostly me, after a while, as the youngest female and therefore lowest in the family hierarchy) would go out back with a bucket and get stabbed a whole bunch and come inside with fruit and maybe some exciting new injuries. (Thorns like needles. Juice the color of blood.)

The taste of boysenberries is something I'm often asked to describe, and the approximate answer is "bite into a raspberry and a blackberry at the same time, and you'll mostly have it." But it's more than that. It's the taste of long summer evenings, of hiding out back with a book and eating yourself sick, of Grandma serving you an extra-big slice of cobbler because she noticed your brothers being shitty to you and food is how Depression-era farm kids express love. It's the taste of belonging somewhere that will never exist again.

Anyway, this plant is about to be the most spoiled, pampered little thorn-monster you've ever seen.

Love to be working on applications and see that everyone wants 2-3 letters of recommendation for their position specifically (because I definitely know enough people to do that for the hundreds of applications it takes to get a job), a TB test (because let's ABSOLUTELY get the American healthcare system involved), a personal letter of introduction to the boss (because if I knew someone who knew the boss I wouldn't still be looking for work), and transcripts from my high school (which closed years ago, left all their records to a literal cult, and oh yeah I HAVE TWO COLLEGE DEGREES FROM A UNIVERSITY PEOPLE HAVE HEARD OF but no that doesn't matter it's only the fucking culty high school that counts).

I AM OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER THE REAGAN ADMINISTRATION. AND I HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE.

And I guarantee you no one will read any of it.

Alright everybody,

I'm going to be travelling, so while I've been too busy packing and preparing I haven't managed to work on anything.

I will be gone for about a week and a half. I am going to continue to do my best to work on my projects when I can, but I will not be posting any new updates until I'm back. Instead I will be outlining some new ideas, writing whenever I can, and maybe working on getting more of my stuff up on AO3, starting with Summoning since it's mostly done.

The AO3 work will include a lot of revisions and trying to beta my own work for errors so hopefully it's better quality by the time it's transferred over. And suffering through trying to format on AO3. In that vein if there are any important tags you think I should add to my fics, warnings, or otherwise please let me know.

I'm sorry I won't be posting while I'm gone. Hopefully, if all goes to plan, by the time I get back I will have a lot of progress to post.

I know it's a bit late to make this post, but I recently cut my hair really short for New Year's to see how much it would grow in by next year. I made some Picrews, as usual, to summarize the changes without posting pictures of myself on Tumblr.

This is my old hairstyle, along with a scarf that reminds me of one a friend gave me in middle school:

My hair reached down to my lower back close to the hips when I let it hang and its front parts were more than half the length of my arm. I got it mostly shaved off on New Year's Eve, so it looks like this:

Whew...well, that's a lot fewer tangles I get to deal with this year! Personally, I have yet to find anything I regret about this decision. Thanks for bothering to read this post of mine, despite me only being the younger sister of @dynamic-k, the rookie local celebrity AO3 author in the AvA/AvM fandom.
