So excited to share the latest edition of The Heirloom Kitchen interview series! While we can’t make it over for dinner quite yet, we can get a sneak peek into the kitchen happenings of our favorite eco-minded creatives. This round we’re talking chops with Alex + Lindsay of the low waste product shop, Good Intent.

We’ve got serious pantry envy and major condiment inspiration from these two. Experts in the sustainable lifestyle space, this dynamic duo makes mindful living a snap. I’m taking scrupulous notes on Lindsay’s vegan risotto tips and kicking up my spice cabinet with Alex’s suggestions. Can’t wait until our IRL dinner party.

Describe the food you most relate to: Avocado. From California. Can be a bit temperamental. You wouldn’t really know what’s going on inside based on just the exterior. Are at their primes for brief moments in time, and that’s when they are also most vulnerable. - Lindsay

Scrappy kitchen tip to share? Learning how to properly store produce has been a game changer. So many fruits and veggies gone bad prematurely because I was storing them next to the wrong things or not in the best containers. Like storing green onions. carrots, and asparagus in jars or glasses filled with water like flowers! - Alex

Alright y’all not gonna lie, I am *pretty* pleased with myself for this 🔥🔥 breakfast. I’ve been craving juice for a few days now and since I don’t have a juicer, I just blended up all my ingredients (apple, carrot, unsweetened cranberry juice, ginger) in the blender and strained the pulp for a super refreshing juice 😋 now about that leftover pulp... I added some agave nectar into the purée, mixed it up, and will be using it in place of jam on my peanut butter toast the rest of the week. Imperfect objects

As we wrap up this holiday season, thinking about the things we may or may not have gotten this year, I want to take a moment to remind you that it’s ok to hold on to those imperfect items. We don’t have to be so quick to replace everything. The mug that’s lost it’s handle, the old plastic take away containers, the chipped plates. They can all continue to serve a purpose in your home. We eat around the chip in this plate, thankful that it has survived our unforgiving tiled kitchen floor. We repurpose those old dish rags within an inch of their lives. We try to extend the life of every item we own before we make a conscious effort to replace or buy new. It’s a practice in patience, yes, and a practice in imperfections. A low impact kitchen isn’t always beautiful, but we can find something in that longevity. What imperfect pieces are you still holding onto? #closedloopcooking

7 years ago today, I was packing supplies for families who had been displaced by Hurricane Sandy. The school less than 5 miles from my home was turned into a homeless shelter, and my friend had a boat sitting in his family’s living room...it was not their boat. For me, Climate Change isn’t something that’s happening in a far-off place. It’s happening to my home, to my neighbors, and my community. People ask me why I’m so passionate about climate change. Have you seen my Hairy Trotter pin badges? . When I sent off to have some work printed onto sustainable badges, I couldn't resist getting at least 1 Wizard Pig. My Wizard pigs were my favourite collection last year, and this lil fella was the first one that spurred on the whole collection. . What other magical animals would you like to see in my whimsical style? . . . I chose wooden pins because they not only look mighty fine, but they also take 20-24 times less energy to make than enamel pins. They smell delicious.
