Chapter Two - Come to a Party
It’s been hours, and Atsumu’s been having the worst luck. He’s been all around Tokyo - to the library, the park, the karaoke bars -  and yet despite it all he still hasn’t found a date. It feels like the universe is conspiring against him. Every girl that he’s approached as either seen right through his tactics, or just has flat out ignored him. He was beginning to grow desperate. Time was running down and he needed to find someone to bring. The competitive side in him was growing irritated at admitting any sort of defeat.
Also the blow to his ego from all the rejection isn’t helping either.
He’s not backing down though. Atsumu spies a small cafe, aptly named Rose’s, up ahead and decides to take a quick break before continuing to search.
Stepping through the door, Atsumu notices that although it’s only 8, the cafe is not that busy. The tiny cafe doesn’t look like it could fit a ton of people, and the people who are there are few and far between. He heads up to the counter and is greeted by the sight of woman, who looks to be about middle age, behind the counter.  She greets him as he approaches, “What can I get you?”
Atsumu looks at her name tag, it says Rose - she must be the owner, and attempts to give her his best flirtatious smile, “I’ll take your finest cup of coffee please.”
Rose seems unamused as she answers, “Coming right up.” Atsumu, once again defeated pays and finds a seat at a table in the corner.
As he sits, he looks around the small cafe, he spots a waitress clumsily coming out from behind the counter. She makes small talk with Rose, who points to his table as she hands the waitress his cup of coffee. He hadn’t known that she was back there to begin with, or that she was in the cafe at all. She seems shy, a bit awkward, not super comfortable in her own skin, and to be honest she’s very plain. Not really Atsumu’s type but she seems like the perfect person to take to the dogfight. She makes her way over to his table with his coffee, and Atsumu sees this as his last ditch effort to try and find someone, anyone to take. Atsumu knows that he has to try really hard to get her to find him appealing enough to agree to come with him.
She arrives at the table to set down his coffee, avoiding his gaze completely, quietly speaking, “Here’s the coffee you ordered.”
“Thanks. Say, I’m feeling kind of hungry. Anything that ya’d recommend from the menu.” Atsumu gives her a genuine smile as he holds the menu he found on the table, in his hands. It seems that no customer in this cafe must pay her any real attention because she seems shocked that he’s speaking to her.
She fumbles with her fingers as she nervously speaks up, “Um, well I personally think that our muffins are the best, but I might be a bit biased since I helped make them this morning.”
Atsumu sees this as an in, “So you’re a baker huh, do you make all of the pastries here?”
She quickly nods
“What’s your favorite ones to make?”
Atsumu can see that she still seems wary of him yet somehow beginning to open up to him, “I prefer chocolate chip, they’re just classic.”
“I’m a bit of a banana nut muffin man myself, but I’ll have to take your word for it. Anything else ya’d recommend?”
Before she can respond, Rose comes over to the table. “Hate to interrupt but Y/N I need some help. Gotta get ready for the morning.”
Y/N faces Rose and apologizes “Sorry mama” then turns to Atsumu, “Sorry, I - I guess I gotta get back to work.” Y/N moves away from the table and back over to the counter. Before Atsumu can say anything Rose speaks to him as if sensing his intentions with her daughter aren’t all that wholesome, “Better finish that cup, we’re closing soon.”  She leaves through a door in the back of the cafe that leads to a set of stairs, there is a sign over the door that says “EMPLOYEES ONLY”. Atsumu waits a bit before heading to the counter to speak with Y/N again.
“Hey, I apologize if I got ya in trouble. It was never my intention.” Atsumu tries to sound as sincere as possible.
Y/N gives him a shy smile, “It’s okay, Mama just gets a tad bit grumpier at closing time.”
Atsumu gives a small laugh, “I get it, my Ma’s the same way when it’s getting late and my twin brother and I are still outside practicing our volleyball plays.”
Y/N seems curious, “You have a twin brother, I’ve always wanted a sibling. I bet it’s fun getting to play volleyball with him?”
“It can be, he’s a bit of a scrub sometimes.” He mumbles, to which Y/N laughs, a genuine one full of innocence. He continues, “We’re pretty good actually. Made it to Nationals the past three years.” Atsumu beams with pride as he says that.
“Hey, I just realized something, I never introduced myself. The name’s Atsumu Miya.” He sticks his hand out as if he wants her to shake it, she does, letting out a small giggle. “I’m Y/N L/N.” Their hands shake for a few moments as they smile at each other. Atsumu decides that now is as good a time as any to try and get her to come, so he pretends to look at the clock behind Y/N. “Well, I better get going, gotta head to a party.”
“A party?”
“Yeah some friends of mine are throwing a little get together.” Atsumu suddenly pretends that he’s had this brilliant idea, “How’d ya like to come with me?”
Y/N is a bit shocked, she’s only just met Atsumu. She won’t deny that she thinks that he’s cute, but it seems a bit weird to go to a party with a man she’s just met.  “I would love to go but - I’m still on the clock and I have a lot of work to finish up.”
“It’s okay Y/N ya don’t have to lie to me. I get that I’m an athlete and that sometimes we don’t have the best reps. People think we’re rude jerks. If you don’t wanna go ya can just say it, I understand.”
“No, it’s not that - I don’t think you’re - its just - I mean, I just met you.”
Atsumu begins to think on his feet. “Well, you know my name, you know that I have a twin brother, that I play volleyball. I’m an open book anything ya want to know, I’ll tell ya.”
Hearing this seems to make Y/N shy, Atsumu runs with this. “I’m not playing any games, I promise. Sure, I thought ya were pretty when I first saw ya, but I just want ya to get to know ya. I feel this connection between us, even if we did just meet. Kinda rare don’t ya think?”
Y/N seems skeptical. Atsumu continues though, “Come to this party with me, I promise to treat ya right. We can take this opportunity to get to know each other. Have some fun. I know this might sound weird but I just think that you seem real special. I promise if ya come there’ll be no funny business.” He makes an “X“ over his heart, signifying a promise and gives her his best smile.
“I dunno, Atsumu, you seem nice but like I said we just met, plus I have a ton of work to do to help close up.”
“Why don’t I tell ya a little bit more about myself and you can decide if ya want to come or not. I was born in the Hyogo prefecture. I’ve played volleyball all my life. I’m actually here in Tokyo for a recruitment camp in the hopes I can get scouted to a team.”
“Wow, that must be exciting”
“It is, all my life I’ve wanted to play volleyball. I knew I was destined for it. It’s in my blood, I know it is. It’s the only real true calling I’ve ever had.”
Y/N seems touched by his words, gives a small smile, “I bet you’re really good then, to have made it to a recruitment camp.”
Atsumu smiles at her, a genuine one, “Thanks.”
Y/N is torn, she wants to go with Atsumu and get to know him, but she’s never done anything like this before. She feels a bit flustered. “Atsumu, I’d really like to go with you, but I gotta finish cleaning up.” She begins to resume cleaning up.
Atsumu perks up at this, “What if I help ya out?” He’s getting desperate he can sense the hesitation in Y/N, it’s now or never at this point.”
“I don’t know that doesn’t seem like a good idea.”
Y/N’s words fall on silent ears as Atsumu begins to “help” clean up, although who knows if help is the right word for it. What little he achieves in helping clean up, he makes up for in charming Y/N. As they clean up together, they begin to talk more and get to know each other. Atsumu still asking her if she would like to come with, but Y/N is still hesitant.
They finish up in record time, as Y/N sets a chair up on a table, but as she goes to turn around she trips over a box that Atsumu must have left on the floor in his “attempts” to help her clean.
Before she can hit the ground, Atsumu races over to her and catches her in his arms. Mere inches apart, close enough to kiss, there is apparent electricity flowing between them. Maybe Atsumu was right earlier about a rare connection.  A moment passes between them only for them to immediately separate as they were abruptly interrupted by the arrival of Rose. He shakes away the thought from a moment ago.
“Y/N, honey, you need to change the sign on the door, we’re closed.” She says the last part more to Atsumu than Y/N.  As quickly as she arrived, Rose turns back.
Atsumu looks at the clock once again and sees that he only has 30 minutes before the party is supposed to start. He realizes that maybe he’ll just have to accept defeat. “Well I guess I gotta head out. I’m glad we met Y/N, you’re a sweet girl. Maybe we’ll meet again one day. Still, it’s a shame. I thought that maybe if ya came with me, well who knows. Maybe we coulda -“ He pauses for a moment, lingering on a thought hoping she’ll say she’s changed her mind. When he senses that she won’t he, he gives up, “Anyway, have a good night.”
Atsumu goes and turns for the door. Y/N watches him go, she’s torn as she considers going. It feels like time moves slowly as Atsumu gets closer and closer to the door. He has his hand on the handle as Y/N shouts at him, causing him to stop. “Atsumu, wait. I’ve changed my mind. I’m gonna go with ya, just let me run upstairs to my apartment to change!”
Atsumu smiles, feeling victorious, “Okay!”
“Okay!” Y/N turns towards the stairs to her apartment then stops. “Atsumu, I’ve never - what kind of party is it?”
“A party, party.”
“Should I dress up?”
Thinking this is too good to be true Atsumu responds, “Yeah, you should dress up, go all out if ya want!”
“Okay” Y/N’s excited as she runs up the stairs towards her apartment, tripping on the first step, then pauses looking at Atsumu hoping he didn’t catch that.
Atsumu just pretends he didn’t see, as Y/N continues run upstairs. Excited about going to the party with Atsumu.
As soon as Y/N is out of sight. Atsumu decides to wait outside, laughing at his incredible luck. Relief washes over him. “I can’t believe I did it! I’m totally gonna win now!” Now all he needs to do is wait for Y/N to come down.

Dogfight
Atsumu x Reader
The rules were simple: find a date and win some money. Who knew that one small encounter could change Atsumu’s life forever.
A/N: I want each and every person who reads this to know and understand that they are not ugly. The guys are choosing people who they deem to be "ugly". However as well see asthe story progresses, without giving too much away, Y/N (reader) views themselves as a beautiful human and that "society's" or in this case Atsumu's standard of what beauty is doesn't define who they are and what they're worth. The whole story itself is based on the musical Dogfight by Pasek and Paul. I recommend taking a listen if you'd like. In the end it will be Atsumu who is the ugly one for the actions and choices that he makes throughout the story.

Chapter One: Some Kinda Time
Tokyo - Five Years Earlier
To be recruited onto a professional volleyball league is an arduous and long journey. Players from all over the country come to Tokyo’s Ajinomoto National Training Center, to join a month long recruitment training camp that has them showing off not only their skills, but themselves in front of recruiters from teams all over Japan. While the process is long and grueling, working from morning to night, in intensive trainings, drills, and practice games, much like in life there is no guarantee that things will work out in a players favor.
Many times, players go through the process only to be picked for minor league divisions, or not picked at all.
To say that the past month has been stressful would be an extreme understatement.  Atsumu has poured all of himself, everything that he has - blood, sweat, and tears included - into showing off the asset he could be to a team, and what his skills could do if he were chosen. He’s shown to be a team player, a setter who listens to the demands of his team, and an athlete who is always trying to make room for improvements in his skill set by really listening to what the coaches have to say.
Now, after four long and grueling weeks, the camp is coming to a close, and within the next week or so, he’ll (hopefully) find out who he’s playing for.
The coordinators have gathered all participants together in one final get together to thank them for their time and effort, and to know that they will be walking away giving it all they can, in spite of what the outcome will be. Speeches are made by various officials and representatives, and as they begin to wind down, Atsumu finds himself stepping outside of the  training center with nothing but time to kill. His flight back to Hyogo doesn’t leave until the next morning and he’s got the rest of the day to kill until then.
Over the course of the camp, he’s seen and worked with some familiar and not so familiar faces around and has managed to find a group of guys to hang out with in his of time. Which is a rarity in and of itself. He rarely lets himself get distracted though, doing so would deter him from his ultimate goal of being picked for a team, and the eventually playing in the Olympics.
As he steps onto the sidewalk, he notices the group of guys that he became familiar with during his time at the camp. He wouldn’t quite call them real friends- knowing that their relationship is only built to last during this training time, and nothing more -  but rather pals that he bonded with over their mutual love of volleyball. They have big enough egos to compete with Atsumu’s and the fact that being around them tends to boost his own - in fact bigger than it needs to be - doesn’t hurt either.
Joining them mid conversation, he overhears their plans for the night. Interested Atsumu decided to join in. One of the guys, Souta - a fellow setter, mentions that they throwing a little party at a friend’s house. “You’re gladly invited Atsumu, you seem like a cool guy. We’d love to hang out with you some more. However, if you’re gonna go we gotta tell you there’s a catch to the party. It’s probably not gonna be like anything you’ve ever been to before.”
Atsumu is curious, “Why’s that?”
“Well, there’s a catch. You see, we’re throwing what’s called a dogfight.”
“A dogfight? Like fighting dogs against one another?” Confusion and worry laced in Atsumu’s voice.
The guys in the group chuckle, while Souta speaks up, “Yes and no. It’s not quite literal. You see, the catch to the party is that each person needs to bring a date. Not just any date mind you. Ya gotta find the ugliest possible person to bring as your date. The uglier the better.”
Atsumu must have a lost look on his face which prompts Kaito, a wing spiker, to further explain, “See, each of us puts in ¥5,000, which helps go towards food, drinks, stuff like that. Whatever’s left over goes into a pot. Each guy’s date will be judged based on a variety of different factors by two judges. The girl who the judges deem to be the ugliest wins her date the money in the pot.”
Another guy in the group, whose name Atsumu seems to be blanking on at the moment, pipes up, “One year, I heard that someone won ¥109,714.50!” This garners commotion amongst the group.
Souta breaks through the commotion, “See that’s why we call it the dogfight. Essentially, the guy with the ugliest date wins. Makes sense?”
Atsumu can only nod his head as he processes all that he’s been told. “Sounds easy enough.’
Kaito laughs, “Right? However we do have a one rule, break it and you’re disqualified. You can’t hire any one to be your date.
Atsumu laughs at his sentiment, “I have never had any trouble getting girls, they practically fall at my feet. I’m in. Prepare for me to come out victorious, and for your wallets to feel a little lighter.“ Excitement pours out of every word. He’s always loved a challenge, why should this time be any different.
He’s greeted with cheers and claps on the back, ignoring the small voice in the back of his head which decides to manifest as the voice of his former captain, Kita Shinsuke, becoming a conscious of sorts. telling him that this is a horrible idea. One that will come back to haunt him in the end. Pushing aside Kita’s voice, Atsumu can only think of the end goal. Besides, at the end of the day, it’s a win-win for Atsumu, he can potentially win some money and have some fun before he has to leave in the morning.
He’s interested, the competitive side of him wants to win some extra cash and seeing  this as an easy win, he’s on board. The guys in the group start getting one another riled up for the night’s festivities as they each part ways, with the promises of declaring that they’ll come out victorious.
Atsumu and Souta are the last two to part ways, as Atsumu hands over the ¥5,000 required to participate. Souta tells Atsumu that he’s excited that he’s participating, “I’d never thought that you’d be one to join us. You won’t regret it, it’s going to be a blast.” He waves off Atsumu as he heads off in the opposite direction, looking to find a date of his own, as Atsumu does the same.
Little does Atsumu know that Souta’s parting words would later come back to haunt him.

Prelude
Miya Atsumu is not a patient person, anyone who knows him can attest to that. The two hour train ride from Osaka to Tokyo is definitely going to test what little patience he does have. Boarding this train signifies a huge change in his life. He’s been asked to join the National Men’s Volleyball team, and is scheduled to begin training in a few short days. Joining the olympic team is something that he has always dreamed about, it’s an honor and a huge accomplishment for the short amount of time that he has been playing professional volleyball. He’s proud and rightfully so. It’s a well deserved honor that not many have the pleasure of achieving. Yet, here he is. Despite all the pride, he can feel the beginnings of nervous energy creeping in. He’s glad that at least he has his brother here to keep him somewhat grounded. Even if the only reason that Osamu agreed to go is to scout out future locations for a possible Onigiri Miya expansion.
As the train departs the station, Atsumu chooses to let music be his guide as he stares out at the scenery passing by his window. The last time he had been to Tokyo was five years ago, as a newly graduated eighteen year old. A different person in a different time. He likes to think that time has changed him, matured him, made him think differently, see the world in a different perspective. However, he knows that time is not the only factor in this equation. He has many people to thank for the growth and maturity, although Osamu may disagree on that point, that he has experienced. He thinks about one person in particular in that moment. As if by fate the songs shuffle and change to one that encapsulates her and the time, albeit short, that they spent together. Like the scenery passing him by he is brought back to a time that seems so far away from where he is now, it feels like it’s haunting him.
When he told Osamu that he wanted to arrive in Tokyo early, ahead of his scheduled training, he wasn’t sure if his brother would believe the excuse of wanting to get familiar with the place he’d be calling home for the next year. To be fair though, it was a partial truth. The parts that he omitted were that he wanted to go back, to see if she was still there, to apologize, seek her forgiveness, make amends. Mostly he just wanted to see her again. He’d never share that with Osamu though, and as if his brother knew, without needing confirmation, that there was more to the story, shrugged and agreed to tag along.
The limits of the city grow closer, and so do the ghosts of the last time he spent a significant amount in the city. The ghosts grow stronger and stronger as the soundtrack of the journey unlocks the memories and feelings that he has kept locked away in the deepest recesses of his mind. Sensing that there is something troubling his brother, nudges his brother, and in doing so breaks the chain of memories flooding in. Blinking back into the current reality, Atsumu takes one headphone out of his ear, and gives his brother a puzzled look. Osamu speaks.
“Everything okay, ya seemed to be spacing out. Doesn’t have anything to do with training to play in the Olympics does it?”
Atsumu snorts, like the thought amuses him, “As if”. Then turns places his headphone back in and begins to space out again.
Osamu just takes what his brother says at face value and shrugs. He knows that there is something underlying beneath the surface. Yet, he knows his brother, and knows it’s best not to push. Whatever Atsumu is going through at the moment, is something that he needs to figure out on his own. Whether it will bring him peace or not is another story, but these are the part of the lessons we learn by living life. Sometimes lessons are painful, and sometimes they teach us beautiful things. As the train continues to make its way to its destination, Atsumu can only wonder what truly will lie ahead.

Note
Ok so I accidentally posted before I finished writing, can I get a scenario where sweet (and evil) Dabi develops a crush on a civilian s/o who happens to be a the personal nurse of Rei Todoroki (fite me, Dabi is a Todoroki) and he just falls for her. She’s super sweet and is pretty much oblivious, basically the door mat heroine but she would throw hands if you push hard enough. She can also tell when she meets Dabi’s eyes that he’s a Todoroki, lol feel free to use this information as you please.
Hey! I appreciate the request! I had a blast writing this. I also think that Dabi is a Todoroki so it added to the fun of writing this. Hope you enjoy and it’s to your liking!
Dabi would’ve never considered himself to be a person who fell in love. He didn’t care for personal ties, and his job really didn’t allow them anyway. At most he was always up for a quick fuck here and there but never one to settle down with someone in a committed relationship. The only real tie he kept was to his mother, Rei. He would try to sneak in and visit her at least once or twice a week, if possible. The visits were never more than thirty minutes at a time, not wanting to get his mother in trouble for visiting with a wanted criminal. Still, though the time seemed fleeting, he treasured every moment he did spend with her. It was during one of those visits that his perspective on love began to change.
A new nurse was assigned to personally oversee Rei’s care, the old one retiring after thirty years of service, or at least that’s what she said. It definitely wasn’t due to Dabi threatening her life after seeing how she mistreated his mother before one of his visits. The new nurse, or Y/N as Dabi quickly discovered, was so kind and patient with those under her treatment. She always remained calm and collected even around him. Y/N didn’t mind too much that Dabi was a villain, as long as he remained under control while he was visiting.
“How are you feeling today Mrs. Todoroki?” Y/N asked checking over Rei’s vitals, making sure everything was looking normal.
“Better.” Rei said somewhat stoically.
“I’m glad to hear that. I must say it seems that your visitor has been doing wonders for your treatment!” Y/N said with a smile pointing to where Dabi was standing in the corner of the room, somewhat hidden in the shadows.
“Yes, it seems to be that way.” As Rei spoke, she couldn’t help the small smile that crept upon her own face.
Y/N saw how much his visits positively impacted Rei’s treatment and wasn’t the type to remove something that was having a positive effect on her patients. She cared too much about their wellbeing to subject them to that - especially since many of her patients were already dealing with a lot of psychological trauma and she didn’t want them to regress in their progress. Seeing the way that Y/N interacted with his mother, had touched something deep within Dabi that he had long since thought dead, his heart. As Dabi spent more time around the two, he began to grow closer to them, and even developed feelings for Y/N.
She was everything he was looking for in a woman and yet everything he didn’t know he needed. She was sweet, caring, devoted, loyal, and at times a little naive. Y/N was also, in Dabi’s own words, “fucking hot” as well. There were times where it seemed like people would take advantage of her kindness - asking her to cover last minute shifts, run errands, or even to help out with a patient. But she would do so without question and with a smile on her face. However, there were also times when Dabi would witness someone push Y/N too far and test her patience. Whether it was not delivering on a promise they’d made to help get more freedom for her patients or consistently trying to push her buttons on an issue.
It was during those times that he saw her fiery nature emerged. She could hold her own and she wasn’t above fighting someone to get what she wanted or what she believed to be fair. Y/N had a fire to her, a fierceness that was unique to her. She wasn’t afraid to stand someone down and put them in their place when she knew they were in the wrong. It was because of all of this that Dabi couldn’t stop the flutter in his heart when he glanced her way or even the hitch in his breath when he saw her smile.
He found himself flirting with her any chance he got. His visits growing longer and longer, increasing from thirty minutes to an hour to suddenly visiting for four hours at a time - all just to spend more time with his mother and Y/N. He was grabbing her coffee before his visits and finding ways to subtly brush against her. He was even accompanying Y/N and his mother on walks around the hospital grounds. Still, no matter what he did she seemed oblivious to his actions. Dabi was beginning to get frustrated when nothing he did seemed to work. It wasn’t like him to try so hard and he hated how weak she made him feel. He wasn’t used to it, and yet, at the same time he didn’t mind that she was making him softer and more open to feeling love in his heart. He’d be damned if he never got the chance to tell her how he felt.
One night he decided to just get it over with and ask Y/N out. He wait for her to get done with her shift and ask her to grab a bite to eat. Plain and simple. As he saw Y/N make his way over to him, however, he found himself begin to sweat as his heart rate began to increase. Trying to remain calm, he shoved his hands into his pockets as she finally approached him.
“Dabi? What are you doing here?” Y/N asked somewhat puzzled.
“Uh, I just came here to ask if you wanna, like- I mean… If you’re not busy… we could get lunch? Or dinner? Or fuck, even just coffee if you don’t have a lot of time?” Dabi began to sheepishly rub the back of his neck. He had never acted like this before, he didn’t know what came over him and why he was behaving this way. Love must make you stupid, is what he chocked it down to.
Y/N’s eyes grew wider as she let out a small gasp, “You mean like a date?”
“Uh, yeah, I guess…. I mean if you’re okay with that?” Dabi paused, taking a deep breath in and out before continuing. “Look, I’m usually not a stuttering nervous mess like this. However, there’s something I need you to know. I think that you’re the most kind, caring, and overall badass woman I’ve ever met. I know that I’m a villain and that might not be the most ideal person to be with, but fuck, I am so deeply in love with you. So basically what I’m trying to say is will you go on a date with me.”
Y/N couldn’t help but smile at Dabi. She wouldn’t lie and say that she hadn’t been feeling something for him in the months that she had gotten to know him. She had looked past the gruff exterior of the villain he wanted the world to see. Instead she saw him for who he was inside, a kind and compassionate person who was protective of the ones he loved.
“Of course, I’ll go out with you.” Y/N said with a small giggle.
Dabi couldn’t help the smile that broke onto his face.
“However, I wonder what you’re mom would think of the two of us dating?” Y/N asked in a somewhat playful tone.
Dabi immediately froze, shocked by her words. “My…mom? How do you know that Rei’s my mother?”.
Y/N smiled as she stared into Dabi’s eyes, “I could tell from the first moment I met you and looked into your eyes. You had this look in your eyes that only a son who absolutely loved his mother would have. Like, you would do anything to protect her and make her happy.” She paused, her smile growing mischievous as she chuckled, “Plus, Rei also told me. She talks about you a lot, ya know. She loves you so much and worries about you all the time.”
Dabi had been touched by her words, unable to do anything but gently grab her face and press a rough, yet tender kiss to her lips. It left the both of them breathless. Dabi wrapped his arms around Y/N’s waist as he pulled her closer to him, “How did I get so lucky to find a woman like you?”

Loved and Lost
Ch. 6: Moving Forward and Leaving the Past Behind
Things between Y/N and Hitoshi had certainly become tense. For almost two months now, they had been actively avoiding each other at work, barely sparing a few words between them only when it was necessary. To anyone who didn’t know about their shared past, they would have seemed as merely acquaintances with the way they had been interacting with each other. For those who knew, however, it was clear that both Hitoshi and Y/N were hurting. Their close friends had been informed that Hiro was not Katsuki’s but indeed Hitoshi’s, which surprised them all since they had met Hiro before and had not caught on to the signs beforehand. They didn’t know the extent to which the fight between the two old friends had escalated.
Midoriya and Kaminari did their best to find out from Hitoshi, what exactly had happened to cause such a detrimental rift between the two former friends. However, they were only met with a empty stare and a simple shrug of the shoulders. Meanwhile, both Ashido and Uraraka had tried to get Y/N to open up, but all she would do is give them a faint smile and say that everything was fine. Kirishima kept bothering Bakugou about it, but Bakugou being who he was just grumbled at him and changed the subject. Hell, even Deku had tried to talk with Katsuki about ways he could help the situation.
But Katsuki Bakugou didn’t want to share how he felt about the whole ordeal, not with his best friend and especially not with shitty Deku. After Hitoshi had left that day, Y/N had a falling out with Aizawa. She was furious at him for, in her own words, sticking his nose into places it didn’t belong by forcing her to deal with things when she wasn’t quite ready.
“You had five years to be ready. Don’t you think that’s more than enough time to sort something out? How do you think Shinsou feels?” Aizawa said in an accusatory tone, pressing the matter further. He didn’t necessarily think that she should have kept this secret from him, he hated that he couldn’t say anything further himself. Y/N was right though, it wasn’t his news to share, so he had to go along with what she wanted. For five years, he kept her secret. Upon their return however, he was afraid that she would never tell Hitoshi, already seeming so hesitant to do so, thus he took matters into his own hands.
“Of course, you take his side. You always seem to take his side.” Y/N spoke through gritted teeth. It was no secret that Hitoshi was one of Aizawa’s favorite students. He always came to bat for him no matter what. It used to feel like Shinsou was more his child than his own daughter. It would frustrate her at times, but she used to push it aside, not wanting to let it ruin the dynamic that they had.
“It’s not about taking sides. It’s about doing what is right.” Aizawa said sternly.
Y/N quickly grew irritated. “Who are you to decide that for me? It’s not up to you. Hiro is my son, and if I didn’t want to tell Hitoshi, then you have no right to take matters into your own hands. That’s my decision, not yours.”
“He still has the right to know.”
“I tried to let him know, but he shut me out. That whole, ‘doing what was best for me’ bullshit, is unconvincing and you know that. Stop defending him, and putting this all on me. We’re both to blame in this situation.” Y/N said exasperated.
After their fight, Y/N, Hiro, and Bakugou had moved into their new apartment, which seemed to be done at the perfect time. Y/N hadn’t spoken to her father since.
It tore Bakugou up inside to see everything that Y/N was going through. She wouldn’t admit it out loud to him, but there were times when he heard her crying when she thought no one was around. It was if her whole world was crashing down around her, and she couldn’t hold on to the pieces. Bakugou did what he knew best, he would take her into his arms and hold her against his chest, trying to comfort her to the best of his ability. He knew that he wasn’t the best with words at times, but he knew how to physically show Y/N how much he cared. He would pepper her face with kisses, as he caressed her hair, and quietly whisper how much he loved her. Katsuki could see that it was helping, it just wasn’t enough. He knew that the only way to fix things was for Y/N and Hitoshi to sort through this mess and talk things out.
Meanwhile, Hitoshi was going through an emotional rollercoaster of his own. He constantly replayed the confrontation that he had with Y/N in his mind, as if it was on an endless loop. Hitoshi could only hate himself for using his quirk on her. He hadn’t meant to force her to tell him, he was just so angry.
But was he really angry with her, or just at himself?
Y/N had tried to reach out, that was true. He could only blame himself for not picking up the phone. Back then, he was trying so hard to give her space, to sort out his own insecurities and really become a man worthy of her love. But all it did was backfire. He was no longer worthy of her. Hell, she had found someone that was worthy, Bakugou - as much as Hitoshi hated to admit it.
Hitoshi laid in bed, staring up at the ceiling, on another sleepless night. He thought about all the things that he had done to Y/N so far. It made him sick. He had really fucked things up this time. Even more so than he did five years ago. He thought about the simpler times with Y/N and how easy life had seemed when they were in high school.
How did life get so far away from him?
He thought over the past five years. How he essentially had waited for her to come back into his life so that he could pick up where they had left off. It was a foolish thing to do.
At the ripe old age of twenty four, Hitoshi finally had a wake up call.
He had come to the realization that his fight with Y/N was the result of five years of up emotion that he had stored away. It wasn’t fair to her that he hadn’t been able to move on, that he had unconsciously put all this pressure on her to return back to him, when she had no obligation to.
Y/N wasn’t a play thing that you could put down, and come back to later. No, she was a person with thoughts and emotions of her own. She was an adult, and she could make her own decisions. It soon brought Hitoshi to tears to think about how he had mistreated her the last time they had spoke. He wished that he would have just given her a chance to explain things on her own time, instead of forcing her to do it because he felt he was owed an explanation.
He was brought to the realization that he had never needed to prove that he was worthy of her, she used to show him that everyday. Rather than seeing that though, he chose to listen to his own fears and insecurities. Pushing her away when she needed him the most. Hitoshi’s heart sank into his chest at the thought. He needed to apologize. Now what he needed to prove was that he was worthy of her friendship and worthy of having Hiro in his life. That’s who was most important in his life now.
Letting the weight of his emotions lull him to sleep, he was about to drift off when he heard his phone ding with a text from Mari. The two had gotten even closer since his altercation with Y/N.
MARI: Just checking in. Hope you’re doing okay!
He smiled at her words. Mari was always there when he needed someone. He was beginning to rely on her more and more, and her on him. She recently had some heart break of her own. Before Y/N had decided to come to Might Heroes, the agency was actually thinking about promoting Mari from sidekick to full time hero. She was glad that the agency was finally recognizing all her hard work and talent. However, when it was announced that both Ground Zero and Kinesia would be joining, the agency felt it was best to wait to promote Mari. They already had two big names being added to the roster, and they really weren’t looking for another. So, she was forced to stay on the sidelines as a sidekick. It didn’t really sit well with her. Still, she tried to smile through it.
HITOSHI: I’m doing better. Thanks!
HITOSHI: You?
MARI: Somewhat, yeah.
Hitoshi had been thinking about asking her out for a couple of weeks now. Maybe she was just what he needed. However, there were more important things that he needed to focus on before he started anything new.
The following morning, Hitoshi was approached by an irritated Bakugou. Crimson eyes bore into his lavender ones, and Shinsou could feel himself tremble at the presence before him.
“Oi! You and I need to have a chat.” Bakugou called out to him gesturing to the empty office where they could talk. Hitoshi stepped inside while Bakugou closed the door behind him. Shinsou was anxious, he held his breath as he waited for Bakugou to speak.
“Look, I know I’m the last person you want to hear this from now, but this whole mess with you and Y/N avoiding each other needs to stop. If you truly want to be involved in Hiro’s life, then the two of you need to have a chat about your place in Hiro’s future.”
Hitoshi kept silent. Bakugou was right. He and Y/N needed to sit down and communicate with each other about everything. They needed to air out their grievances and move forward, for Hiro.
Bakugou took a deep breath and sighed, “Ya know she feels remorseful about how everything went down. But there’s something you need to know, when she came to the realization that you weren’t ever going to pick up the phone when she called, she cried. Non-stop. She tried her best to hid it, even from me. It killed me to see her like that, so broken. She hated herself.” He let out another sigh. “It took her a year to move past it all, and when she finally did, she came out the other end so much stronger.”
“I didn’t know.”
“Of course you didn’t. How could you. “You never bothered to pick up the damn phone and call her back for fuck’s sake.” Bakugou pinched the bridge of his nose as he let out a shaky breath. “Fuck, even Aizawa doesn’t know. She does her best to leave it in the past, where it belongs, and just move forward.”
Hitoshi just let Bakugou’s words sink in, as he realized how much he put Y/N through. He was glad that she had found someone like Bakugou. Someone who had come into her life and had.
“Look, it’s not going to be easy, but you two need to sort this out. Immediately. For Hiro. Cause he’s all that matters.”
Hitoshi could only nod in response as he knew what he had to do. He needed to reach out and just talk to Y/N. He needed to apologize.
Bakugou took his silence as confirmation and turned to walk out the door. Suddenly, he stopped in the door frame, turning back towards Hitoshi. Ruby eyes burning with a simmering rage.“Oh and another thing, if you ever use your quirk on Y/N like that again. I’ll break your fucking jaw.” As he said this little explosions dance across his palms.
With that, Bakugou walked out the door. Leaving Hitoshi was a shiver down his spine as he went to look for Y/N.
Across town, Y/N had been busy with Hiro planning for the wedding. Both Y/N had decided on using a wedding planner for the upcoming nuptials, since being pro heroes left little time to actually plan anything. However, Y/N still wanted to have some hand in actually putting stuff together for the big day. So, here they were looking at flower arrangements. Y/N felt slightly bad for her son, she had no choice but to bring Hiro along. She was still feuding with her father, so she didn’t want to leave Hiro with him. Plus, she took the opportunity to spend the day with Hiro, it had been awhile since they had a day together, just the two of them. Y/N knew that wedding planning wasn’t exactly the most fun for an almost five year old, so she decided to stop and get Hiro some ice cream.
“So, I figure since you’ve been so good all day, we can go and do something fun. Do you have any ideas?” Y/N asked as they sat down to enjoy their cones.
“I wanna see Daddy!” Hiro said excitedly. He never passed up an opportunity to see his dad at work. He loved what his parents did, he wanted to be a hero himself when he grew up. Plus, he knew that seeing his dad at work meant that he could see other pro heroes as well.
Y/N was hesitant, “I don’t know buddy. Daddy might be busy at work, and he might not have time to see you”. She knew that was the only reason why she didn’t want to go to the office, especially on her day off, but she wouldn’t tell little Hiro that.
Hiro began to grow upset. He stared at his mom with big eyes and jutted out his lower lip, making the perfect puppy dog face. He knew his mom wouldn’t be able to resist.
He was right.
Y/N let out a sigh, “Okay, okay. I’ll see if your dad is free.” She raised an eyebrow at her son, “Ya know kid, you’re lucky you’re so cute.”
Hiro smiled, contently scooping ice cream into his mouth as he spoke, “I know!”
After checking with Katsuki to make sure he was still in the office, Y/N and Hiro had made their way to the agency. As they stood outside the looming building, Hiro looked up in awe, his anticipation growing as he grew more and more excited. They soon found themselves in front of Katsuki’s office, Y/N could feel Hiro bouncing up and down at her side as they entered the large office. They found Bakugou sitting down at his desk as he went over a mission with Midoriya and Kirishima.
Hiro enthusiastically rushed to Bakugou’s side with a smile on his face, “Daddy!” He jumped into Katsuki’s lap, and gave him a quick hug before turning to face the rest of the room.
Y/N called out to her son, apologizing to the heroes in the process. “Sorry for the interruption. Hiro, say sorry.”
Hiro once again whipped out his sad puppy dog face as he apologized. Everyone couldn’t help but awe at the sight of him and acknowledging his very adorable apology. Y/N made her way to Katsuki and planted a tender kiss on his cheek. She knew that he hated public displays of affection, even small ones, but he was known to make an exception every once and awhile. She was glad this was one of those times.
“Aw, don’t you all look adorable, together like that! Man Bakugou, I never thought I’d see you like this!” Kirishima said, a huge smile on his face.
“Yeah Kacchan. It’s kind of nice to see you like this with your family.” MIdoriya said with a sheepish smile.
Bakugou immediately became irritated as he narrowed his eyes at the two of them, “Shut it Shitty Hair and stupid Deku!”
Hiro soon removed himself from Bakugou and made his way over to Midoriya and Kirishima. Telling them all about his quirk. It had been awhile since they had last seen him, and he was excited to share with them everything about it.
With their friends distracted, Katsuki turned to Y/N quietly whispering, “Just so you know, I had a chat with Shinsou. He seems to be sorry for what happened. You need to go talk to him.”
Y/N nodded. Although she really didn’t want to speak to Hitoshi, she knew that she needed to. She thought to herself that if Katsuki could have the courage to go and talk to him, then she could do so as well.
“Do you think you’ll be okay watching Hiro for awhile, while I go talk to him?” Y/N asked.
Katsuki gave her a side smirk as he watched Hiro, “Of course.”
Y/N smiled as she squeezed his shoulder and turned to head out of Katsuki’s office. However, before she could go she felt Bakugou grab her hand.
“Oh, I forgot to mention. I told him that if he ever used his quirk like that on you again. He’d have to deal with me.”
Y/N chuckled at his protective nature, glad to have someone like him in her corner, as she went in search of Hitoshi.
Y/N spotted Hitoshi back turned towards her as he talked to Mari, hesitantly she approached them. Mari stopped talking when she saw Y/N causing Hitoshi to turn around to see what made her go silent.
“Hey can we talk?” Y/N said quietly.
“Yeah. Actually, I was going to find you to ask the same thing.” Hitoshi rubbed the back of his neck as he sheepishly answered. He excused himself from Mari as he pointed to an empty conference room where they could talk.
They stood their awkwardly staring at each other. The silence was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Neither one of them knew how to start the conversation.
Eventually they both spoke. “I’m sorry.”
They awkwardly laughed at their synchronicity, before returning to the silence. Hitoshi spoke again.
“Y/N, I am so sorry for how I reacted. I should have never used my quirk on you. I just want you to know that I’m not angry at you, just at myself for the way I’ve treated you. I know that I have a long way to go before I can prove to you that I’m worthy... but I really want to be apart of Hiro’s life.” Hitoshi could feel tears begin to well in his eyes as he spoke. “God, I should have picked up the damn phone, and I should have been there for you, and I’m sorry that I wasn’t. I just want to start over and be friends again. That’s if you’ll let me.” He paused as the tears began to fall, “God, this whole situation between us is fucked up. I missed you so goddamn much.”
Y/N let out a shaky breath as the tears threatened to roll down her own eyes, “Hitoshi, I have always wanted you to be apart of Hiro’s life. I’m so sorry that I kept that secret from you for all these years.” Suddenly the tears began to fall. “I want us to be friends again too. Despite it all, I did miss you. I missed having you in my life.”
Finally, they let out the true feelings that had been pent up for five years. It was as if a weight had been lifted off their shoulders. For the first time in five years they talked. They talked about everything from work to Hiro to everything in between. Hitoshi even asked Y/N and Bakugou, and she told him about how the got together and how excited she was to marry him.
“Sorry, I know that it’s still a sore subject for you.” Y/N said shyly.
“No, don’t be sorry. I’m glad that you found someone who loves you deeply. Even if it is Bakugou.”
Y/N playfully slapped Hitoshi’s arm and they laughed.
Once they had shared everything that they had needed to share. They hugged, like they were welcoming each other back into their lives. It felt wholesome and forgiving, like a conformation of the return of their friendship.
Before parting, Y/N spoke, “Hitoshi, I’m glad that you want to be apart of Hiro’s life. But I think that for now we shouldn’t tell him who you are. We need to give him some time to warm up to you, to get used to you being around.” Y/N paused. “We will tell him though.”
Hitoshi nodded, “I understand. It’s gonna be a lot for him to deal with. It’s better to ease him into it.” Y/N smiled and for the first time in what felt like ages, Hitoshi smiled as well.
The two soon parted, promising to get together soon for Hiro. Happiness radiating from them as they finally were able to come to an understanding about the future and the past they were choosing to leave behind.
However, unbeknownst to the two of them, a lone figure had been watching their reunion, anger and jealousy radiating from them at the sight of what they had seen.

Loved and Lost
Ch. 5: The Truth Comes Out
Despite training with Aizawa for many years, Hitoshi Shinsou always ended up being surprised by his old sensei and his ability to kick his ass at every turn. Even when Hitoshi thought he had gotten the upper hand, Aizawa would always come around and teach him a lesson. It wasn’t fair, but yet it always fueled him to do better. Maybe that’s why Aizawa never failed to hand him his ass on a silver platter.
They had been training for a couple of hours now, while little Hiro watched in awe the entire time. Even though he was itching to show off the quirk that had manifested only a few months ago, he couldn’t help but be excited watching the two heroes go back and forth. He was mesmerized, but at the same time he was beginning to grow impatient.
Hiro began to whine from the sidelines, “Papa, when is it my turn?”
The two heroes couldn’t help but let out small chuckles at the little boy so eager to begin training of his own. Aizawa soon turned to Hitoshi, eyebrow raised, “Do you mind stepping back for a bit?”
“Nah, I don’t mind, could use some water.”
“Was I kicking your ass that bad?” Aizawa grinned at Hitoshi as he spoke, sounding ever so cocky in his abilities.
Hitoshi couldn’t help but laugh, “You wish.” Calling to the little boy waiting so eagerly on the sidelines, “Alright Hiro, you’re up!”
Hiro couldn’t help the megawatt smile that formed on his face. Eyes wide with excitement to show off what he could do. He began to rush over to where the two heroes were standing. Hitoshi couldn’t help but notice just how cute the boy really was. Wearing a somewhat, oversized black and orange Ground Zero shirt - he made his mother get him a bigger one so it could fit over the muscles he would have one day, and a pair of dark blue jeans. His hair wildly bouncing as he ran with all his might over to them. Once he had made it over, he eagerly began pushing Hitoshi’s leg, shooing him away. As if to tell him that his time was up.
“Okay, okay, I get it. It’s your turn.” Hitoshi couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped his lips at the sight of the boy.
As grandfather and grandson began to start their training, Hitoshi felt that it was the perfect opportunity to observe the boy a little more. He still had this feeling in the back of his mind that he was being kept in the dark about something in regards to Hiro. He was beginning to form his own conclusions but he needed a bit more evidence.
Nevertheless, Hitoshi didn’t have time to dive deeper into his thoughts as he soon saw the boy use his quirk for the first time. He saw Hiro reach out and touch Aizawa and the older man’s form abruptly went rigid. Hitoshi saw Hiro tell Aizawa what he wanted and after as if on cue, Aizawa moved forward. He walked about twenty feet forward and then Hiro quietly whispered stop. Hiro then commanded his grandfather to return to him, which he obediently did. Soon he was pushing Aizawa to go farther and farther. Eventually, after about ten minutes Aizawa had been released from the boy’s control.
Hitoshi stood there flabbergasted at the sight. He desperately wanted to play it off as coincidence. Mental quirks ran in his family, both with his mother and grandfather. Still, the nagging feeling wouldn’t go away. The evidence was staring him right in the face but at the moment he was choosing to ignore it. He had one thing on his mind for the rest of the day, to get Y/N to reveal the truth to him. He needed to hear it from her, hear the words come from her mouth. He couldn’t fully accept it until then.
After a few rounds of training Hiro, they soon made their way back from the U.A. campus - the afternoon sun blaring down on them, making the air unbearably hot. They had only been walking for about ten minutes when Hiro began to complain.
“Papa, it’s too hot! Can we please get ice cream?”
Ten minutes later, the trio were sitting on a park bench enjoying their cones while a gentle summer breeze blew by. It was hard not to notice the lavender hue in the boy’s hair when the sun shone through it, and eyes once considered to be obsidian had a deep amethyst shade to them. Hell, even his quirk was pretty much Hitoshi’s with some minor differences. To play those off as mere coincidence would be beyond foolish. He was being foolish.
Was he simply in denial?
Perhaps denial was a better term for what was going through Hitoshi’s mind. Denial was better than facing the possible reality that was placed before him. The possibility that for five years, he was unable to know about him - kept away from him. They were reduced to strangers. Still, HItoshi knew that if Hiro was indeed his son, he would be there for him. He would demand to be involved in his life.
Hitoshi wouldn’t deny that he was intrigued by Hiro. He was a little spitfire, curious about everyone and everything. He radiated confidence, even for his small stature - something that he must have learned from watching Bakugou. Hitoshi wanted to learn everything about the boy - from his likes and dislikes to what he dreamed about being when he grew up. He came to the conclusion that IF, and that was a big if, Hiro was not his son, he still wanted to be involved in his life. He felt drawn to the boy - as if there was some magnetic force pushing them together.
It was a little past five o’clock in the evening when they finally made their way back to Aizawa’s house. The summer sun just beginning to make it’s descent for the day. As they were approaching the walkway, a certain explosive blonde was walking towards them causing Hiro to run towards him - a huge smile plastered on his face. Bakugou couldn’t help but return one of his own.
“Daddy!”
Bakugou scooped Hiro up in his arms in a big bear hug. “Hey Squirt! How ya been?”
“Good! Papa took me to train with him!
“He did?”
“Yeah, and we got ice cream and Mama’s friend Hitoshi came along!” Hiro was rather elated about the ice cream part.
Looking away from Hiro and acknowledging the two men that stood before him, Bakugou could feel his irritation begin to grow as his jaw clenched. He could sense that something underhanded was going on, but he just couldn’t determine what exactly it was. Y/N had told him all about the previous nights events - he knew what had happened, he just didn’t understand fully what motives were at play here. Y/N had never mentioned that Hitoshi was joining the two of them, so he had to assume that she didn’t know. Aizawa must have invited him after the fact. Even his appearance at dinner last night was rather peculiar. Bakugou needed to know why Aizawa felt the need to include himself in affairs that really didn’t concern him. Then there was Shinsou. Bakugou knew that Hitoshi was a smart guy, in fact, there was no doubt in his mind that he was most likely trying to put two and two together. The thought of this made Bakugou hold on to Hiro just a little bit tighter - pulling him closer, his eyes narrowing at Hitoshi’s figure. He felt threatened by Hitoshi’s presence, and he absolutely despised it. Yet, at the same time, Bakugou knew that deep inside of Hitoshi he was probably feeling the same way.
He was right.
Hitoshi felt anger and jealousy bubble up inside him at the sight of them. He could still hear Hiro’s excited yell when he first laid eyes on Bakugou. He was still replaying in his mind the moment they embraced and how happy the two of them had looked. He felt his lips get tight as fists clenched at his sides.
That could have been him, it should have been him. Yet, here he was a complete and total stranger. It was wrong. Here he was again losing everything to Bakugou, first the love of his life and now possibly his own son. He was furious. Furious at himself, at Bakugou, at Aizawa, and most importantly at Y/N. He was determined to make her tell the truth.
Bakugou broke the silence that now consumed the four of them, as he placed Hiro on the ground and grabbed his hand.
“Let’s go inside, I bet your Mama is gonna be happy to see you!” The smile on his face masking the anger forming inside.
Y/N was just finishing looking at prospective wedding venues when she saw Bakugou and Hiro appeared in the doorway. She couldn’t contain the smile that arose to her lips at the sight of them.
“Hi Mama! We’re home!” Hiro excitedly waved towards Y/N the moment he saw her. A small giggle escaped her lips as she went to greet them.
“Hello, my loves!” She placed a gentle kiss on Hiro’s forehead.
Bakugou had raised an eyebrow to her, sarcastically asking, “What about me?”
Y/N rolled her eyes and playfully slapped Bakugou’s arm. He leaned down and she planted a tender kiss on his lips.
If anyone had told Y/N in high school that she would be engaged to Bakugou she would have likely laughed directly in their face. The Bakugou that stood before her was so unlike the Bakugou that she knew in high school, it was like night and day. Sure, there were some things that had remained the same in him - his short fuse, his drive to always be the best, his explosive personality. Still, there were things that were distinct to this now mature Katsuki Bakugou. He was gentler, kinder, loving - of course all in his own way. He absolutely adored Y/N and Hiro, and it was the thing about Katsuki that Y/N loved about him the most. He chose to stick around when he had no obligation to, Hiro wasn’t his son and yet he chose to be an active part of his life, he chose to be his father.
Five years ago, Y/N and Katsuki had reconnected when his agency had sent him over to America to assist her agency in catching some criminal that had left Japan and had begun committing crimes in the States. She and Bakugou had been assigned to the case as partners, and it wasn’t the best of starts. They were constantly competing against each other and butting heads. But then, something changed, at least it did in Y/N.
Bakugou wouldn’t lie if he said that he had always had his eye on Y/N. She was fierce, strong, and confident, yet, at the same time she was kind and compassionate. She was an enigma to him and he had always wanted to get closer. Working together on that first case, had done just that. Still, there was a little hiccup in their relationship, Y/N had discovered that she was pregnant with Hiro. Any other man would have run at the very thought, but Katsuki Bakugou was not like any other man.
Sure, it’s never ideal when the only person that you had ever seen yourself having a future with was pregnant, with another man’s baby no less. However, Katsuki knew what he had in front of him, a real chance at true love. Even though Y/N would refuse to go out with him until things settled, he still stuck around. He knew it must not have been ideal for her to be going through a pregnancy alone - her family was in Japan, and the baby’s father was absent. He would hear her cry sometimes at night, at the office, anytime she had alone to herself. So, Katsuki made it his mission to be by Y/N’s side. He would go and do anything and everything that Y/N allowed him to, from doctor’s appointments to building the crib. He knew that she needed someone by her side, even if it was just as a friend. He would wait, even when it wasn’t always easy he would wait. Katsuki Bakugo had never been a really patient person, but love can really change a person.
As the pregnancy progressed he had found himself falling more in love not only with Y/N, but with her unborn son. He couldn’t help himself. Maybe it was due to being around for everything or maybe it was something else, but Bakugou had found himself getting excited for Hiro to be born. Then when the time finally came, just like with everything else, he was there by Y/N’s side the day that her son was born. She had even let him hold him, and Katsuki Bakugou found himself growing further in love with the tiny bundle he cradled in his arms.
Hiro looked so small and fragile wrapped in his soft blue blanket. He needed someone to watch over and protect him, and Bakugou made it his mission to do so. He would be there for him, to guide him and to love him as if he was his own, and he would continue to be there for as long as Y/N would let him.
For a year they stayed in this neutral state - more than friends but no more than lovers. During that year, Bakugou was going back and forth between America and Japan, and it killed Y/N to have him leave for months at a time. She had come to realize that she could no longer push her feelings for Bakugou to the side. Y/N was still somewhat heartbroken over Hitoshi. Still, it felt like time to move on and recognize the incredible man that had been there for her in her darkest times. Realizing that it wasn’t fair to deny the connection they so clearly had and that Katsuki had been at her side throughout it all. The moment that Bakugou had returned stateside, Y/N confessed everything to him.
“I just need you to know how much I appreciate you being here for Hiro and I.” Y/N’s heart felt like it was going to explode out of her chest. “I am so hopelessly and desperately in love with you and I know it sounds cheesy, but I just needed you to know.”
Bakugou was unable to express how deep her words at touched him. So he did the only thing he could think to do, he kissed her. The kiss was needy and rough, filled with the emotion that they had pushed aside for almost two years.
The three of them stayed blissful in their own little world, happy and content with the home they had built with each other. For two years it stayed this way, until finally Bakugou had worked up the courage to ask Y/N to marry him.
Bakugou, Hiro, and Y/N had spent the entire day together, they had gone to the aquarium and to the park, just enjoying each other’s company. After a day filled with fun, just the three of them, they had returned home to cuddle up for the night. It was during this that Bakugou had gotten down on one knee to propose.
“Y/N, I am so in love with you. You and Hiro own my heart, and I want to spend the rest of my life with the two of you.” Bakugou could feel his heart pound out of his chest and his hands grow a little sweaty, “Will you marry me?”
“Yes!”
The ring was beautiful. It was an oval cut ring with a rather large diamond in the middle, 3.5 carats to be exact, and smaller diamonds going half way down the band surrounding it. Y/N couldn’t be more elated to get to marry the explosive hero that she had fallen for.
Y/N would have been content to stay in America forever, just the three of them, but Bakugou had been itching to return back home to continue moving up the hero rankings. It made sense, their assignments in America had finished and there was more action happening back home. Yet, she knew that if she returned, there would be a certain person who would come back in their lives. She wasn’t ready for him, wasn’t ready to face the pain she had escaped from so many years ago. Y/N also wasn’t ready to expose a secret she had kept for so long. It took some serious convincing on Bakugou’s part, but she agreed to return back home.
So, here she was staying at her father’s house until their new apartment was ready. Nervous that it was only a matter of time before everything went downhill. Coming back to the moment before her, she broke away from Bakugou’s kiss and could see Hitoshi storm through the door. Her father hot on his heels. Hitoshi seemed to be fuming and she knew that the one thing that she had secretly feared for so many years was soon about to rear its head.
“We need to talk. Now.” Hitoshi was trying so desperately to hide his anger from the rest of the room, and especially from Hiro. He didn’t want to upset the boy by yelling at his mother, but he was beyond furious.
Y/N nodded her head and quietly followed him into Aizawa’s study. She could feel her body trembling from fear for the confrontation that was about to happen. As the door closed behind her, she couldn’t help but feel the room closing in around her.
Hitoshi was staring daggers into Y/N. His jaw began to clench as his hands formed tight fists against his side. “I need you to tell me the truth. Is Hiro my son?”
Y/N could see how angry he was, could feel it too, as it radiated off of him. She never wanted things to happen like this. “Hitoshi, I-“
Hitoshi felt his anger boil over, losing control as he cut her off with a growl, “Answer me.”
Y/N’s eyes soon turned into a muted grey as she slipped under his control. He didn’t mean to use his quirk on her, but when he lost control, it just happened. Tears began to well in her eyes, as she felt her mind force out the answer.
In a quiet and shaky voice, she spoke. “Yes... Hiro is your son.”
Hitoshi was seeing red, his body began to shake in rage. How dare she keep Hiro a secret from him.
Was she ever planning on telling him about his son?
Yet, suddenly his rage turned to sadness, as he began to break down, with his own tears now welling in his eyes. He felt hurt more than anything. A person who he had loved so dearly, who he had shared so much of himself with had kept this secret from him.
“Why did you never tell me about him?”
Still under his control, she responded. “I tried. I tried to get in contact with you but you would always ignore my calls. After a while, I was so frustrated in not getting a response that I gave up.” Y/N hesitated as she spoke. “For almost five years, I wished that I could have pursued it further and told you, but I was nineteen and I did the best I could with what I was given.”
Hitoshi was quiet as he spoke, “Your dad could have told me?”
Y/N responded. “This was not his news to share. It was for me to tell you. He didn’t need to get involved in this.”
“Were you ever going to tell me about him?” His voice spoke as he said this. It was the one question that plagued his mind more so than the others.
“Yes. Eventually, I would have told you about him. That was one of the reasons for us moving back. I had planned to tell you,”. She paused, sighing as she said, “just, not this soon”.
“Were you ever planning on telling him about me?”
“For an almost five year old, I don’t know how he would have handled it. Knowing that your dad is not your biological dad, is pretty confusing at that age. However, I would have told him once he had gotten used to you being around, and only if you wanted him to know.”
Y/N was suddenly released from his control as the tears spilt from both of their eyes. They were both feeling so many things - anger, sadness, resentment, and fear.
Silence filled the room as the gazed at each other, realizing that they were indeed different people from the ones they knew all those years ago. It was like they couldn’t recognize the people that they had become. For Hitoshi, the Y/N that he had known back then would have never kept a secret like this from him, and for Y/N, the Hitoshi she knew would have never used his quirk on her in anger.
When had things gone so wrong between them?
Could things ever be fixed?
Hitoshi didn’t know what to say to her anymore. He was still trying to process the information that now hung in the air. He had a son. They had a son. Something that he once used to think about, now seemed much darker. The room felt much smaller as let the weight of her words really sink into him. He felt so broken inside. He needed to leave Y/N to really think about what to do next. Yes, he still wanted a relationship with Hiro, and at the same time he still wanted a relationship with Y/N. Not a romantic relationship anymore, but one as friends and co-parents. However, he knew that he needed to not be disgusted at her sight to do so. He needed to get some space from her to really think about everything, so he just walked out of the room and left. As he was pushing past Y/N to leave, he felt her reach out and grab his hand. The tears that once threatened to spill in her eyes now staining her cheeks.
“Toshi, I am so sorry.”
“I know, but right now I just can’t forgive you.” His words stung her like poison as he released himself from her hold and walked out the door.

Loved and Lost
Ch. 4: Things We Shared in the Dark
Five Years Ago
Y/N paced back and forth in the living room of her apartment. A cool summer breeze came in through the open window, a departure from the sweltering heat that had been present earlier in the day. An unnerving silence filled the room, breathlessly waiting for the phone to ring with the answer she so desperately wanted to hear. An opportunity had come across her path, one that could help launch her career into heights unknown, but as to be expected of life changing opportunities - there was a catch. An agency in America had taken an interest in her hero work, they had expressed interest in her being a part of their agency. The job required her to move from Japan to America and she didn’t know when or if she would see her family and friends again or anytime soon for that matter. After several rounds of interviews and performance tests, she was waiting to see if she had been selected.
Exasperating - the only word Y/N could think of to describe the seemingly endless wait for the phone to ring. Pondering over the opportunity and all of its benefits, her mind soon began to fill with fears and anxieties. It was a big decision for someone to make so young, she was only nineteen still fresh out of high school and wasn’t sure if taking this opportunity was really the best thing for her at such a young age.
What if I’m not good enough? Can I really just pick up my life and move to a different country, I’m only nineteen? What if I don’t take this opportunity and regret it for the rest of my life? Would my father be proud?
Trying desperately to wrangle back control of her mind from the uneasiness taking over, she started to take deep breaths. In and out. In and out. Until finally her mind was at peace once more. There was no sense in fretting about those things now, she wasn’t even sure she officially received the offer. Taking some time to put her mind at ease, she placed her phone on the coffee table and decided to just watch the television. However, life has a funny way of presenting itself and the moment that she finally started to relax, the phone began to ring.
On waited breath, she took a few moments before answering the call, to not seem as desperate. Taking a few breaths to calm the soon rising nervous, she anxiously picked up the phone.
“Hello?”
A bubbly voice picked up on the other side, “Hi this is Karen, calling from United Heroes, I would just like to call and tell you that after much careful review and consideration. Out of all the candidates that we saw, you were the one we thought was exceptionally qualified and we would love to have you join our team.”
A smile had soon crept onto Y/N’s lips, she had done what seemed like the impossible and now right here before her the opportunity of a lifetime was presenting itself. It took her a bit to respond back to Karen and after much back and forth, she was given by the end of the week to give an official answer.
“We just want to make sure that you are completely prepared, it is a big opportunity, especially for one so fresh out of school, but we would love to have you with us. Go ahead and take a couple of days, and let me know by Friday what you’re official answer will be. That way we can proceed with the paperwork. If everything goes smoothly we’ll have you come out here by next week.”
After exchanging pleasantries, the phone soon disconnected. An ecstatic scream escaped her lips.
A couple of days had past and Y/N had called to officially accept the position. Karen had told her that Y/N needed to have everything ready to be shipped to America, including herself, by Saturday. Hero work often moved at a fast past - it’s just the way the job went. Y/N had expected to move out there quickly, but not that quickly. She was suddenly filled with doubt - did she really make the right decision?
After internally going back and forth with herself, she knew she wasn’t going to get anywhere - she needed someone to give her a second opinion. So, she sought out the one person who’s opinions always had mattered the most to her, Hitoshi. He was her best friend after all, he would be the one to give her the best advice about everything.
So it was here, on this unusually calm and cool summer Friday night that Y/N sought out Hitoshi. They had planned to meet up at one of their favorite hangouts, a cafe they had discovered early on in their friendship. It had become their place all throughout their days at U.A. and beyond.
Opening the old doors to the cafe, Y/N had spotted Hitoshi sitting at their favorite table, a small corner booth in the very depths of the cafe, away from prying eyes. His amethyst eyes shining brighter as he saw her enter from across the room. As she got closer, she noticed that he had ordered her favorite drink, and it filled her with so much glee. Yet, at the same time, so much dread - why?
Maybe it was because she knew that it could possibly be one of the last times she would see him? Maybe it was due to the fact that inside she was still torn about her decision to go? Who knew? She pushed it aside for the moment as she sat down across from him.
Hitoshi could sense the trouble brewing in her head. He could see the puzzled look on her face as she sat down. He desperately wanted to know what she was thinking about.
“Is everything alright?”
Y/N could only give him a faint smile, “Yeah, I just spaced out for a second.” She hesitated, not knowing how to tell him that she was leaving. Part of her was afraid to tell him. She wanted to keep it a secret for just a little while longer, but defeatedly knew she couldn’t. She had to tell him. “Toshi, there’s something I need to tell you. I got a job offer with United Heroes and America. They want me to leave tomorrow. I don’t know when I’ll see you again.”
It pained her to tell him, and she could tell that it pained him to hear. Hitoshi didn’t know what to say, he was left speechless at the news that he had just received. She was leaving for America in the morning. He was heartbroken. Devastatingly heartbroken. He would never tell her that though. How could he?
“So I guess this is goodbye then huh?” His words coming out harsher than he intended.
“Yeah, I guess.” Y/N sounding so unsure of her words.
Hitoshi could sense the sadness in her. He wasn’t sure if it was because they were going to be parted for the first time since they had become friends, or if it was because of something more. He felt the need to reassure her everything was going to be alright.
“Well, if you’re leaving tomorrow, then we might as well enjoy what little time we have left!”
His words brought a smile to Y/N’s face. For a moment it felt like a facade, a mask she was putting on just to feign happiness for him. She shook her head at the thought. She knew it was just Hitoshi trying to reassure her that things would work out in the end. She was grateful for it and yet, she still couldn’t shake the feeling of dread.
In an attempt to soak up as much time as they had together, they began to reminisce. They stayed in that booth for what seemed like hours - talking and laughing and remembering all the moments that they had shared together since their first year at U.A., and even when the owner finally kicked them out, they continued. Deciding to continue back at her place.
On the walk to her apartment, they couldn’t help but notice that the night sky looming over them seemed darker than normal - it was as if the sky itself was moonless. It didn’t help the lingering feelings in Y/N’s heart as they continued their walk.
As they entered Y/N’s apartment they continued to share memories of their past, but now with photo albums to help them reminisce. They remembered the time that Y/N bought herself, Aizawa, and Hitoshi matching cat onesies, or the time that Hitoshi had found the litter of abandoned kittens outside of their dorms and had convinced Y/N to sneak them in without telling her father. They even reminisced about the time that Hitoshi had received his capture weapon - a scarf similar to the one that Aizawa wore, and how he was so excited he cried.
Going over memory after memory, the two found a looming dread hanging over them. Tomorrow they would be parted, for who knew how long. They wouldn’t be able to make any knew memories together, or at least that’s what they thought.
Y/N was glancing at pictures in a new photo album, she looked so beautiful, it broke his heart to know that she wouldn’t be around anymore. Hesitantly, Hitoshi gently cupped her face and kissed her. Emotions taking over as he felt the need to somehow tell her how he felt. She seemed to be confused with his kiss at first, but then soon melted into it, as if to tell him she felt the same. Their kiss wasn’t rough or filled with need. It was sweet and soft and somehow perfect. As Hitoshi pulled away and stared into her eyes, he felt the need to apologize, pulling his arms away from her face and quietly whispering, “I’m sorry”, followed by a faint “I love you”.
Y/N filled with emotions of her own couldn’t find the words to respond, so she just kissed him. Again and again and again. Telling him with her actions what she couldn’t with her words. Feelings now bared to the world as they quietly confessed to one another what they were too afraid to speak.
They soon found the world fall away as they shared what they both had hidden for so long. Longing for each other in a way they had never expressed before, touches burning as they caressed each other. Their souls intertwining as they made love into the night. Soon letting the darkness envelop them both.
The soft glow of the moonlight finally streaming through the curtains gently woke Hitoshi up. It illuminated the room in a light grey mist that gave off a sense of calmness and peace. Still in a foggy haze, he lazily rubbed the sleep from his eyes and shifted to his left to look at the alarm clock on the nightstand. It was only three in the morning, plenty of time to once again succumb to sleep before the sun rose and the day officially began. Turning to the right, he saw what he could only describe as the most beautiful thing that he had ever laid his eyes upon. The love of his life soundly sleeping next to him. Y/N, the person he had loved and cherished for so many years, was there as close as she could be, naked as the day she was born - only the thin sheet from the bed covering her.
As he looked upon her face, noticing alluring features accentuated by the moonlight surrounding her and the soft halo of her hair framing her face. It made her look as if she was an angel from the heavens who had bestowed upon him the pleasure of her presence. He was reminded of the Grecian Goddess, Persephone.
As he breathed in her captivating beauty, he felt an aching in his heart, a sense of fear and self-loathing rising to the surface. Terrified of what might happen when the sun rose on them, on what she might say when she awoke to see him laying there beside her.
Would she be ashamed or would she be elated?
He was scared of what might come of their relationship afterward.
Would there even be a relationship or would it all come crashing down around him?
He was frustrated and feeling so small.
He hated that feeling. He had become so determined to prove to everyone how great he could be, and in some regards he had done just that, but he knew he wasn’t quite done. He wanted to be someone that people looked up to and knew that even if they were different, they too could achieve great success. He had come so far, pushing himself to become the person that he knew he was meant to be, and doing so all with her encouragement and support. She was one of the brightest lights in his very dark life and he loved her intensely. She was his rock and his best friend. Yet, there was still a throbbing in his heart.
Despite all that he had achieved and all the success that he had garnered, he still knew he had a long way to go before he could ever be the hero that he wanted to be, not just for himself but for her as well. The fears from his youth crept back into his mind consuming his very soul. He soon grew outraged for feeling this way, but deep down in the depths of his heart he knew what he needed to do.
Gently he rose from the bed, frightened of waking her as he planned his escape in the wee hours of the morning. He quickly found his clothes scattered amongst hers on the cold hardwood floor, the only evidence of their shared time together and the passion that had ensued - quietly putting them on so as not to disturb her slumber. He saw Y/N’s form shift on the bed and he froze. Silence fell upon them and when he felt assured that she was not going to wake he continued on. Before he could leave, he stood watching her peacefully sleeping form in the now empty bed. It pained him deeply, a great sorrow washed over him as he contemplated his decision.
Was he really making the right choice?
He felt cowardice for not facing her, for making this decision on his own, but despite it all he believed it was the right one. She too had dreams that had yet to be fulfilled and was working so hard to achieve. It was only hours ago that she had told him about her life changing opportunity. There were always ways that enabled things to work, but it would only put unnecessary strain on both of their hearts. He knew she was the one for him and that if they started something now it could hurt them both. They needed to like to grow as individuals before anything could happen between them. He felt that if there was ever going to be a time for the two of them that this just wasn’t the right one.
Would there ever be though?
He maintained that there would and that this was the best decision. Yet in the back of his mind he knew it wasn’t. He was letting his own fears and insecurities take over. He felt himself be reduced to the boy he was growing up - the same boy who was told he could never be a hero with a quirk like his. He was scared of loving her and not having her love him back.
Without further hesitation, as the tears soon welled in his eyes threatening to spill over his lashes as he softly planted a kiss on her forehead. He tried his best to choke back the tears that were on the verge of spilling but in the moment his control was lost and his emotions took over. Walking away from the bed in that moment was the hardest thing he had to do. It felt like an invisible force was pulling him back to her but he knew he needed to break free. Silently sobbing and desperately wanting to turn back, to return to the bed, to just face whatever may come his way, he knew that he mustn’t look back.
Petrified of what was now set in motion as he stepped past the threshold of her door. He kept repeating to himself that this was indeed the best decision and that she would, hopefully, understand one day. He would never regret the night that had been shared between them nor could he ever forget. When in those shared and fleeting moments nothing mattered except for them, just a woman and a man, no more and no less. The memory of that night would forever be etched into his mind always there when he closed his eyes when the thought of her took control in his mind.
As he closed the door on her, on the night that they had shared, he whispered a final goodbye. Not knowing when or if he would see her again. With his back against the door, he prayed that the universe would be in his favor and one day bring her back. Silent tears spilled once more as he slipped into the dark beneath the once again moonless sky.
Flash forward to now, here she stood in front of him with a little boy gently cradled in her arms. “Hitoshi, this is my son, Hiro”. He couldn’t believe the words his ears had just heard. Her son.
“Hiro, this is Mama’s friend, Hitoshi.” Hiro at his mother’s words turned away from her and towards Hitoshi. He could only stare at him for a few moments before giving him the biggest smile, possibly giving Midoriya a run for his money.
“Hi!”
Hitoshi was now given him the opportunity to take in the sight of the boy. He had a short mop of black hair that stuck out in every which way, and these big obsidian eyes. He wore a black Eraserhead shirt and light denim jeans with red high tops. He could have been mistaken for Aizawa’s mini me, if it weren’t for the fact that he had some of Y/N’s features in him as well. Yet, he couldn’t find any of Bakugou in the boy. He blamed it on genetics, that maybe Y/N’s were stronger. Hitoshi pondered the idea that maybe Bakugou and Hiro had similar quirks - if he even had a quirk. Yet in spite of this, Hitoshi couldn’t help this feeling in the pit of his stomach that something was off about Hiro. No matter how hard he tried to shake the feeling away, it gnawed at him - demanding his attention.
He gave the boy a quick hello back.
Before he could question the thoughts in his mind, he was pulled away from his thoughts by Aizawa who had called him into the kitchen needing his assistance, leaving Hiro and Y/N to be on their own.
All throughout dinner, he couldn’t help but bring his attention back to the mother and son. It was clear that they both loved each other, and that Hiro was the center of her world. Every so often though, the boy would do something or say something that would bring Hitoshi back to the feeling that gnawed at the pit of his stomach. As he watched the boy interact with everyone at the table, he could tell that Hiro was so full of life and Hitoshi was reminded of Y/N. He was fascinated by Hiro, and Hiro with Hitoshi. Hiro told him how he loved heroes and that he wanted to be one when he grew up. All night he had been bugging his grandfather to see if he could help him use his quirk. Much to the chagrin of Y/N.
Finally, Aizawa gave in, seeing this as an opportunity to not only bond with his grandson. This caused Hiro to bounce up and down with excitement. However, Y/N was hesitant, but her father assured her that everything would be just fine. It would allow her to get settled a bit more and would give her some free time to herself. Something that she rarely had these days. She could finally start wedding planning and was thinking about asking Uraraka and Ashido if they wanted to hang out. Plus, depending on when Bakugou got home they could also spend some alone time together as well. So albeit reluctantly, Y/N agreed and the plan was set for tomorrow.
As the night winded down, Hiro soon began to grow tired and a bit fussy. His mother quickly scooped him up, and was about to take him to bed when the little boy lifted his tired head up so he could wave goodbye to Hitoshi.
Soon after, Hitoshi headed home with the night’s events still swirling around in his mind. He kept going back to Hiro and the feeling he had in the depths of his stomach. He still couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something about the boy that seemed off, even seemed familiar. He was once again shaken from his thoughts by an incoming text from Aizawa.
AIZAWA: Come to the U.A. training grounds to train with Hiro and I tomorrow. 9 AM.
Without hesitation, Hitoshi immediately responded.
HITOSHI: I’ll be there.
As he tried to drift off to sleep, Hitoshi knew that it would be impossible with the nagging feeling inside that wouldn’t go away. He resolved that tomorrow, he would get the answers to the questions that began to haunt his mind. Even if he had to put up a fight to get the information.
One way or another he was going to get to the bottom of things.

Loved and Lost
Ch. 3: Drunken Decisions, Sober Realities
Hitoshi Shinsou couldn’t remember the exact amount of drinks he had downed, only that whatever that number was, it wasn’t enough. He was still replaying the moment he found out that Y/N was engaged, to Bakugou, no less. It tormented him.
What did that hotheaded idiot have that he didn’t?
Suddenly he remembered, the ability to stay in her life. Hatred radiated from his body, as he pondered what to be a tiny little detail in his mind. If Hitoshi had things his way, the roles would be reversed. He would be the one engaged to Y/N and Bakugou would be the one suffering in a dingy little bar somewhere. However, the roles weren’t reversed and Hitoshi was forced to deal with his current reality, whether he liked it or not.
Hitoshi felt groggy as his world suddenly came back into view, albeit in a hazy form. “Where are we?”
“Hell, I think”, Mari sarcastically retorted, a small chuckle leaving her lips. The bar they were occupying was not the friendliest place in the world, especially for heroes. Hell, even the name of the bar was off putting, Devil’s Lair. It was the furthest place that Mari wanted to be in at the moment, but every time she looked at Hitoshi’s depressive state, she forced herself to stay. She was afraid of what could happen if he was left to his lonesome.
“I’m serious”, Hitoshi wasn’t in the mood to be messed with, only in a mood that allowed him to keep drinking. He flagged the bartender down for another shot. He was never really a super big drinker, but suddenly he found that he was really into consuming more alcohol than his liver had been used to handling.
“We’re still at the bar, you must have blacked out there for a second.”, concern dripping from Mari’s voice as she watched Hitoshi down his fifth shot of Vodka. “You know I can’t just sit by and do nothing when you’re suffering so much.”
Hitoshi only grunted in response as he flagged down the bartender once again for another around of shots. The bartender gave HItoshi a disparaging look before giving placing them down in front of him. Mari was beginning to get worried for him. She hated seeing him in such a dismal state, it was beneath him. Hitoshi was such a wonderful person. He had been there for her when she felt like one else had cared, like a light in the darkness.
For most of her life, everyone had cast her aside. Her golden hair and bright chocolate eyes never seemed to fit her unique quirk. Most people considered it dangerous, downright villainous. The ability to control people’s shadows and force them to do things against their will, like puppets at her control. Definitely a quirk that could be used for evil, if the user chose. However, Mari always wanted to look on the positive side of things, but she would be lying if she didn’t consider a much easier life as a villain. It wasn’t until she had met Hitoshi that she found herself fighting to stay on the path of a hero. He had shown her a kindness unlike any other, a true compassion to help her make her quirk work for good instead of evil. It was then that feelings, other than friendship, for Hitoshi began to form.
When he would describe Y/N to her and how she had changed his life, Mari could only smile. She felt the exact same way about him. Though, she would never have the courage to tell him face to face. He deserved so much better, Mari hoped that maybe one day she could be that for him.
“Hey, I know you’re hurting over the engagement news...but you’re not alone, okay? I’m here for you if you ever need someone.”
Hitoshi looked up from his glass as he took in her words, “Thanks, I appreciate it.” He let her words sink in for a moment. “It’s just been so hard, it feels like the world is out to get me sometimes, ya know? She was the first person, besides Aizawa, to see truly see me as the hero that I knew I was meant to be. It’s hard to see her happy without me in her life.” Hitoshi began to choke up as his reality sank in. He hoped that maybe one day it could have been the two of them together, he and Y/N.
“Believe me, I understand better than anyone. The world can be cold, especially to those with quirks like ours. It’s sometimes hard to not let it get to you.” Mari paused, her words hitting a chord deep with in him. “That’s why I like to swim, it helps me to wash everything away. Just to be able to sink into the cool and kind water. It sets me free, let’s me leave my hurt behind. Maybe instead of drinking, focus on training or something of that nature to help take away your pain.”
He softly chuckled at her statement, it sounded like something Aizawa would say. Hell, it sounded like something that Y/N would say.
Suddenly, Hitoshi’s attention was once again brought back to Y/N. Damn, he hated that his thoughts were constantly consumed by her. Even more since she had returned. Seeing her today brought back so many memories and thoughts that he found the room spinning. Now, whether it was due to the plethora of alcohol that had just been consumed or his all too ever present feelings for Y/N, it was hard to tell. It was safe to say it could have been a combination of both.
In an alcohol induced daze, Hitoshi suddenly felt the need to reach out to her, to tell her how he felt. He needed to explain his actions to her from so many years ago. Even though she was engaged and was allowed to move on with her life, he just needed to get his feelings off his chest. He just needed to see her. So, he drunkly decided that he was going to reach out to the one person that could help him out - Aizawa.
He hadn’t see Aizawa in a few weeks, but he knew that he was the best option in getting to sit down with Y/N. Hitoshi feared that Aizawa would put up a fight, would try to deter him from reaching out to her, but Hitoshi quickly came up with a game plan. He would find a way to get Aizawa to talk, without using his quirk of course. He knew ways to butter up his sensei, but first, he decided that he was just going to take a simpler approach, to text him. If that failed he knew that his plan B would work.
HITOSHI: Hey! Haven’t seen you in a while. Was hoping to catch up. Maybe grab dinner?
Hitoshi was proud that he was able to send a coherent text in his state. Beaming with pride as he pressed send on his phone. Pride was quickly replaced with fear. What if was being too obvious? Aizawa knew his daughter was coming into town, most likely knew that the agency was planning on announcing that she was joining, and knew it was only a matter of time that Hitoshi would want to reach out.
Before he had a chance to mull over his actions, Aizawa had replied.
AIZAWA: Sure, how about eight tonight? If you’re not busy. I have a feeling we have a lot to catch up on.
The text had made Hitoshi audibly gasp, causing quite a few stares in his direction, especially from the champagne blonde sitting next to him. He didn’t mean to have that type of response, but in a drunken state, anything was possible.
Mari glanced at Hitoshi with now puzzled features, as he stared at his phone, “What is it?”
“Aizawa wants me to come over for dinner tonight. Says he wants to catch up.” Hitoshi had left out certain details that seemed - at least to him - trivial to tell Mari. Such as the fact that he had been the one to actually inquire about catching up with his old sensei.
“I think that you should go, I think it might be good for you, help you get some clarity”, Mari responded, “but maybe sober up a bit before you go.”
Deep down, Hitoshi knew that she was right, especially about the sobering up part. Aizawa would have a fit if he knew that Hitoshi was not only drinking during the day, when he most likely should have been working, but that his wanting to catch up had been only been fueled by alcohol. Glancing at the time on his phone, Hitoshi saw that he only had three hours to do so.
Fuck. Had he spent that long drinking his sorrows away in that dingy little bar?
Feeling the need to shower and change before he met up with Aizawa, he quickly paid his tab before rushing back to his apartment. Giving Mari a rushed goodbye in the process. Hitoshi was giddy at the prospect of seeing Y/N, even though nothing was officially set in stone - he didn’t even really know if she would see him. He chose, for the first time in five years, to remain hopeful. He wasn’t sure if Aizawa would even go along with his plan, but little did he know that across town his former sensei had plans of his own. Plans that involved his former student and his daughter. Plans that he hoped would allow them to reconcile and mend the close bond that they once held. He knew that he had to force them to at least communicate with each other, it was in the best interest of both parties that they did.
Aizawa knew about the pain that Hitoshi had caused Y/N on that fateful night five years ago. He was rather shocked when he found out. He knew the boy, and something didn’t seem right about his decision. However, he also knew about Hitoshi’s feelings for Y/N and knew that whatever his reasoning might have been, he wouldn’t have made that choice, if he didn’t feel it was for the best.
Aizawa had tried to reason with Y/N, had tried to get her to at least communicate with HItoshi, to have her tell him the the things she needed to say. He knew his daughter, knew that although she could be stubborn, she was one that could listen to reason, for the most part. So after much convincing, he had finally gotten Y/N to reach out to Hitoshi. Only to turn around and have her tell him that he was rejecting any communication from her. To say he was heartbroken for her when she had told him that, would be an understatement. He reached out to Hitoshi on his own to try and find out why he had suddenly cut Y/N out of his life.
Back then, Hitoshi had told Aizawa that it was for the best if they didn’t communicate with each other. That he would only get in her way by distracted her from her goals and dreams. Hitoshi still also felt the need to prove himself as a hero, he needed a chance to focus on his goals as well.
To Aizawa, it all seemed backward. Why couldn’t they continue to pursue their dreams together? Why couldn’t they continue to support each other as they had done since they had first met back in high school?
But then, it suddenly dawned on him why Hitoshi had made his decision. It was fear. Aizawa realized that although Hitoshi had made great strides in his effort to become a hero - there was still a great sense of fear that his goals might not ever be achieved. Meanwhile, Y/N had a chance to become a great hero in America and was already gaining somewhat of a name for herself in Japan. Hitoshi was afraid that his struggles to become a hero would somehow effect her and in the end he was only going to bring her down. Not only that he was afraid that he was unworthy of her love. Hitoshi had let his fears take over and chose to sacrifice his relationship with Y/N. Aizawa wasn’t saying that the decision Hitoshi made was the right one, however he could see where he was coming from.
It was nearing eight when Hitoshi finally made his way to Aizawa’s doorstep. As he was about to knock, the door opened and he was almost pushed aside by a familiar explosive face, Bakugou.
“What are you doing here?” Katsuki growled clearly not pleased to see Hitoshi. He seemed to be in a very aggravated mood, more so than usual. However, Hitoshi wasn’t going to let Bakugou’s attitude get to him.
“Aizawa invited me over for dinner. Is he here?”
“He went out to the store, should be back shortly.” Bakugou said dismissively.
“I’m guessing you’re not staying?”
“Not that it should matter to you, but I was called on duty. Being one of the top pro heroes means that sometimes you get called out for important missions.” The cocky way that Bakugou had said this, really set something off inside of Hitoshi. He just couldn’t help the next words that came out of his mouth.
“Really, last I heard you were staying pretty stagnant at number five without much improvement. I doubt the mission is that important, you’re probably on your way to do some lousy night patrol instead.”
Hitoshi could see flickers of gold and white explosions being set off in the ash blonde’s palms. He must have really struck a nerve inside of Bakugou with his statement. He was somewhat afraid of what might happen next. It didn’t take long for Bakugou to strike him back with a verbal blow of his own, as he pushed past him to head out for the night.
Calling out to Hitoshi, he yelled, “Tch, you might think that I’m stagnant, but at least I’m top five and I got the girl.” Bakugou chuckled to himself as he continued to walk out into the night, as the darkness enveloped him.
Hitoshi absolutely despised him.
Trying not to let Bakugou’s words dampen his mood. Hitoshi decided to let himself in Aizawa’s apartment in order to wait for him inside. The familiarity of the space felt comforting as he made his way from the doorway to the couch. However, the comfort soon changed into a nervous sweat when he heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Before Hitoshi had time to process anything, he was greeted by the shocked and confused expression on Y/N’s face.
Y/N was at a loss for words at the sight of Hitoshi. She could feel herself trembling in his presence, it was as if she had run face to face with a ghost. It was a complete and utter shock to her system. If she was being completely honest with herself, Hitoshi was essentially a ghost to her, a distant memory from her past that was now catching up to her. She didn’t expect to run into him anytime soon. She had hoped that she would have a bit more time before she would have to face him. But it was as if some sort of universal force was toying with her, telling her it was now time to face her ghosts head on.
They both just stared at each other for what felt like an eternity. Both afraid to speak, afraid to move - desperately trying to process the person that stood before them. Unable to take the deafening silence anymore, Y/N finally broke the tension between them.
“What are you doing here?” Y/N’s voice so timid and quiet. She was still trying to understand why Hitoshi was here in her father’s home. It didn’t make any sense. Nothing had been mentioned to her about Hitoshi coming to visit, she reminded herself to thoroughly question her father before the night was over.
“Aizawa asked me to come over for dinner, honestly didn’t think that you’d be here” Hitoshi was just as shocked as she had been, possibly even more so.
“Yeah, well, our new apartment isn’t quite ready yet so my dad said we could stay here. Not that matters to you. You don’t get to know about my life anymore. You made it perfectly clear that you didn’t want anything to do with me.” Y/N’s words had turned sharp, cutting Hitoshi deep. She could tell by the now somber look that took over his face. A part of her was glad that they had.
Hitoshi hadn’t wanted to confess to her the reasoning behind his decision so soon. He wanted time to gather up the perfect way to tell her. But it suddenly dawned on him that there would never be a perfect way. He instantly felt queasy. Five years of hiding from Y/N was now catching up with him as he desperately tried to find the right words to say, ”I-I am so sorry about that, I need you to know that I did the things I did so that we could both become the great heroes we were meant to be.”
“I don’t accept that. To be honest, I think it’s a bullshit excuse.” Her words were cold and harsh. “It’s been five years and you think you can just walk back into my life to make everything okay, with a sheepish apology?”
Hitoshi didn’t know what to say, he was at a complete and utter loss for words. He knew that no matter what excuses he told her, she had a right to be angry at him. He knew back then that there was a possibility that she was going to be angry with him but he still took the chance anyway.
He remembered the last time he saw her. Y/N had asked Hitoshi to meet up with her the night before she had planned to leave for her new job in America.“You were leaving for this big opportunity in America the next day, I didn’t think -“
Y/N suddenly cut him off, “That’s the thing, YOU NEVER THINK.”
He let her words hang in the air. He had never seen Y/N react like this before. She was usually so calm and collected, something that she had definitely inherited from Aizawa.
“You know Hitoshi, I was so angry with you for so long.” Y/N took a deep breath before she continued, venom lacing her voice. “The night before I had planned to leave, I met up with you because I was conflicted about going. I came to you because I knew you would be the best person to help me.”
Y/N closed her eyes as she tried to recall the events that happened that fateful night. She ran to Hitoshi, tormented by the fact that she was leaving. It had scared her. She was only nineteen after all and moving across the world seemed like such a daunting task, especially for a rookie hero. Not only that, but she was terrified of leaving without talking to Hitoshi. They had spent so much time together during their days at U.A. and suddenly they were to be split apart for who knew how long. What preceded that night was two old friends confessing their love for one another and a passion filled night spent together. Y/N had instantaneously made her choice, only to be heartbroken when she awoke in the morning.
“After everything that had happened between us that night, I knew my choice had been made. I had planned to tell you that I had changed my mind about leaving.” Y/N could feel her heart breaking once again as she remembered the pain she felt so long ago. “But, when I awoke the next morning so excited to share my news, ready to tell you that I loved you, and found that you were gone. I was devastated.” Tears began forming in Y/N’s eyes, as she finally confessed how she had felt all those years ago.
Hitoshi on the other hand was in shock upon hearing her words. His head began to spin as he tried to process everything.
How could someone like her truly love someone like him?
His fears had gotten the best of him that night, and in letting fear take over, he realized that he wasn’t good enough for her. He chose to leave because he hoped one day that he could be good enough for her. But here she was telling him that she indeed did love him and that he had been good enough for her. If only he had chose to stay back then.
“You’re right, my excuse earlier was bullshit.” He hesitated, “I only left because I let my own insecurities get in the way. I felt I wasn’t good enough for you, that I would eventually drag you down. I loved you too much to do that to you.” He felt his voice become timid, “I thought it would be best if we didn’t communicate so that I didn’t have the chance to screw things up for you.”
Hitoshi could feel tears begin to swell up in his eyes. “I’m sorry okay, for everything. I’m sorry that I never returned your calls or your texts, that I never gave you a chance to tell me the things that you needed to say, and... I’m sorry I left. I-I didn’t really believe that you could love me.” His voice felt like a whisper and he was afraid she wouldn’t hear him, “I-I didn’t know that you truly loved me.”
With the truth about that night now finally out in the open, Y/N didn’t know what to say. She suddenly felt her anger dissipate. She had learned to forgive Hitoshi years ago, knowing that if she held onto any resentment it would only hurt her more in the end. She also knew that had this information been revealed years ago, maybe something could have happened between them. She would have been open to the idea, would have found away to make it happen. However, all Y/N could do was let out a sigh.
“But now?” Hitoshi felt like he was on the verge of breaking down, he felt like he knew the answer to the question, yet still posed it anyway. He could sense the sadness in her eyes as she quietly shook her head.
“Hitoshi, I did love you. But now, there is nothing that can happen between us. I have moved on and I’m planning on getting married. I know you know this. Maybe once upon another time there could have been more, but now,” She paused, reflecting on what could have happened, but could no longer be, “only friendship remains. I’m sorry.”
Although it hurt for him to hear her words, he understood. He could tell that she had forgiven him for the hurt he had caused all those years ago. But she could no longer give him the love she once had. Her heart belonged to someone else now. “I understand. If friendship is still on the table I’ll gladly take it.”
Y/N gave him a small smile, “Of course”.
Their touching and some what intimate moment was soon interrupted by the sound of the door being thrown open and a small boy running towards Y/N in pure excitement, with Aizawa following behind him. Y/N seemed somewhat startled by the boy as she scooped him up in her arms. The boy threw his arms around her neck as he enthusiastically yelled.
“Mama!”
Hitoshi noticed she couldn’t help but joyfully smile at the child in her arms - cradling him against her for a few moments. But Hitoshi noticed it quickly faded, as she turned her attention towards him. Timidly she spoke, “Hitoshi, this is my son, Hiro.”

Ch. 2: The Press Conference
MIGHT HEROES TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE TODAY. IS IT TO BE BELIEVED THAT PRO HERO KINESIA HAS FOUND HER NEW AGENCY?
Hitoshi was in awe of just how crazy the press conference was turning out to be, and it hadn’t even official started yet. In the very front of the room stood a podium, behind it a white background with the logo of the agency patterned across. Placed in front of the podium, stood rows and rows of chairs filled with both heroes and press alike. A cacophony of voices filled the air all in anticipation for what was about to occur.
The agency had been keeping a tight lip about what exactly was going to happen during the press conference, keeping everyone pretty much in the dark. As Hitoshi pressed forward through the crowd, he scanned the room, looking for anyone that might be a familiar face. From the sea of faces he saw almost everyone from the old class 1-A, except for Mineta of course. Hitoshi tried to find Midoriya amongst them but to no avail, he assumed that he was going to be part of the press conference in some way and would try to catch up with him later.
He was planning on joining his friends in the front when a familiar explosive ash blonde stole the open seat next to Kirishima. His angry scowl still permanently plastered on his face, just like in high school. It had been a while since Hitoshi had seen Bakugou, he was constantly moving between America and Japan to help assist with some important case. He was surprised to see him here, Hitoshi had heard rumors that he was permanently back in town but didn’t really care too much about it. They were never really the best of friends anyway, if anything he was more of an annoying acquaintance. Hitoshi had always thought Bakugou was too egotistical and loud, but hated to admit that despite his flaws, he was always determined to be the best and was a pretty damn good hero.
Turning his attention away from the hotheaded hero, he searched the room to find any available seat. From the corner of his eye, Hitoshi caught what seemed to be a hand trying to catch his attention at the very far reaches of the room. Heading towards its direction, he soon spotted Mari. Her shoulder length golden hair in soft curls and her brown eyes beaming up at him. He smirked at the sight of her familiar face. Mari waved him over to the open seat next to her.
Bashfully she spoke, “I saved it for you. I-I wasn’t quite sure if you were gonna even show up, but I thought just in case.”
“Wasn’t it mandatory for us to be here?”, Hitoshi playfully answered. He noticed that she was beginning to get flustered.
“Y-yeah, but I figured since the two of you have some history together that you might not show up. Thought it might make you uncomfortable to hear about her.” she sheepishly responded.
Mari knew about the history between the two former friends. Hitoshi had drunkenly shared with the girl one night, after a particularly long day at work. The very same night he had heard about the cartel bust overseas. He nervously rubbed the back of his neck with his hand.
“Yeah well, I’m gonna have to get used to it eventually. Anyways, it’s not like she’s gonna be here today, there just going to announce that she’s joining the agency.” Hitoshi had hoped that there was a possibility that she might make an appearance, but he had heard no information that would conclude otherwise. As far as he knew, she was still stateside and would be coming back in a few weeks, after the announcement was made.
Mari was about to respond when the president of the agency made his way to the podium, trying desperately to get the attention of the crowd. He was a somewhat thin man with a large handlebar mustache and a mop of curly brown hair on his head that appeared to have light grey streaks. Framing his face, were small circular glasses which he wore at the very end of his nose. He had to have been in his late fifties. With his attempts failing, a loudly tap of the microphone on the podium seemed to do the trick. The room suddenly filled with a suspenseful silence.
“For some weeks there have been rumors that Might Heroes will have a new face to add to it’s roster.” He paused adding a touch of suspense to his words.
“After much negotiation, I can now report that those rumors are true. I am pleased to announce that we will have not only one new face join our roster but two.” The president beamed with pride as the hoards of press hounded him about who exactly the new faces might be.
“Now, I know you are all in suspense over who they might be but, I would like to pass things on to the number three hero so that he can help make the announcement himself.” With that Midoriya appeared in the room, a megawatt smile plastered on his face. It only made sense that the president would want Deku - the number three hero and face of the agency, to make the announcement as it gave the agency a chance to flaunt their powerhouses to the press.
Midoriya took over the podium as the president stood behind him, smiles never wavering from their faces. “Thank you sir. It is now my pleasure to introduce the two new faces of Might Heroes. I would like to announce the first new face that Might Heroes has joining us today, the explosive hero - Ground Zero!”
At this cue, Bakugou took to the stage to stand next to Midoriya, his scowl turned up into a somewhat sinister smile. Hitoshi could only imagine how uncomfortable it had to have been for them, standing so close to each other. They had patched things since their U.A. days but it still didn’t mean that Bakugou was always super friendly towards Midoriya.
The press was in a frenzy, the flash of lights from cameras going off in a flurry to try to capture the two heroes next to each other. The expression on Bakugou’s face soon began to grow more annoyed as the press took notice and the flashes died down. Hitoshi couldn’t help by let out a small chuckle at the sight. Midoriya just kept smiling as he began to speak again, with Bakugou stepping backwards to join the president.
“Now, for the moment that you have all been waiting for.” A palpable silence fell across the room as everyone sat on the edge of their seats in anticipation for what about to be announced. Even Hitoshi found himself sitting at the edge of his own seat to hear the news.
“It is my pleasure to announce the second face joining our team, the telekinetic hero - Kinesia!” Deku gestured to the side of the stage and it was in that moment when Hitoshi spotted her. It felt like time had stopped and he was trying hard to remember how to breath again.
Looking just as beautiful as he had remembered, possibly even more so then he could imagine. She carried herself in an elegant manner, as if she was walking on clouds, more mature in her movements. She went to take her place next to Deku at the podium. Hitoshi was unable to pry his eyes away from her direction, as her name quietly spilt from his lips, “Y/N”. It had been the first time that he had said her name out loud in a very long while.
The press went insane, everyone trying to grab the hero’s attention as they snapped pictures and asked questions. Bakugou stepped forward so that the press could grab pictures of the new faces of Might Heroes. During the commotion, the president of the agency once again stepped in front of the podium, desperately trying to calm the crowd down.
“Yes, yes, we are very pleased to announce that both Ground Zero and Kinesia will be joining Deku as the new faces of Might Heroes. It will be exciting to have the two here now, especially since they just recently got engaged.” The last of the president’s words quickly grabbing the attention of the press, with many reporters questioning the president. Hitoshi felt his own ears prick up at the last statement. Engaged. Y/N was engaged. To BAKUGOU.
He felt an uneasiness in his heart, as if it was breaking into a million pieces. He just couldn’t believe the news, when had they even gotten together. Maybe that’s why Aizawa was always so secretive about the information he’d give him, he didn’t want to add to the heart break the poor boy was already feeling. Hitoshi came to grips with the fact that this was the reality that he had chose. He was the one that chose this, yet he couldn’t stop the feeling that his world was crashing around him.
That should have been him.
Hitoshi was unable to control his breathing, finding it coming sporadically. Millions of thoughts and questions flooded his mind as he tried to take back control and calm down. He was speechless.
How could he not expect her to move on with her own life?
He should’ve done the same, but he never could find the courage to do so. Maybe, this was the thing he needed to hear. He felt a pair of eyes staring at him and he glanced over at Mari. Quietly, she asked him if he was okay, to which he just shrugged. That’s all his body would allow him to do as it was still trying to process the information.
Bakugou took over the podium, causing Hitoshi to stir from his own thoughts. “Well, we weren’t planning on fucking announcing it anytime soon,” he said gruffly turning his attention from the president back to the press. “However, since it’s now already been announced, I can confirm that Kinesia and I are indeed engaged. That’s all we’ll say on the matter for now.”
With that, the three heroes left the stage in a hurry to avoid anymore prodding from the press - leaving the president to deal with the matter on his own. “Yes, well, it seems that’s all the news we have for you today. We are so thankful that you could all be here today!” Flustered the president began to follow the path of the heroes, in an attempt to evade anymore questions
The press were beyond elated at the news they had received during the press conference - not only were Ground Zero and Kinesia joining the Might Heroes roster, but they were also engaged. Hitoshi could only imagine the headlines that would come out tomorrow as the press left to share the story.
Hitoshi himself was still reeling from the news. He just couldn’t believe it. He refused to believe it. He was trying to still comprehend what had just happened when he felt a hand on his shoulder. It was Mari.
“How are you holding up?”, concern in her voice as she glanced upon the now shattered state Hitoshi was in. She could tell that the news had broken him. Hitoshi gave her no response.
Desperate to cheer him up, to get him out of this mess, she asked, “Why don’t we go get a drink? You look like you need one.”
Feeling like alcohol was the only cure for what was going on in his head, he took her up on the offer. Wanting to get rid of all the information that was now taking up every thought and space in his head.

Ch. 1: A Surprise Announcement
(takes place after U.A.)
PRO HERO KINESIA, THE TELEKINETIC HERO, RETURNS TO JAPAN AFTER FIVE YEARS ABROAD. CAN SHE HAVE THE SAME IMPACT UPON HER RETURN AS SHE DID OVERSEAS?
That had been the headline, Hitoshi Shinsou had seen all day long. It seemed like every news outlet had covered Kinesia’s return since it had been officially announced. Excitement was certainly buzzing for the return of the hero, who had been in America for the past five years. Kinesia had made international headlines, a year ago, when news had broke that she had played a huge part in tracking and taking down a huge crime syndicate, operating in several different countries. The event had catapulted her career into the spotlight and she had quickly moved up the hero rankings.
The announcement that she had decided to return to Japan after five years away came as a surprise. Her PR team had told the press that the hero felt that she had been away from home for too long and that it finally seemed like the right time to return. When Hitoshi had heard the news he had immediately become elated, although he would never show it on the outside. For he had known the hero from way back in their U.A. days.
They met when Aizawa had decided to take the boy from General Studies under his wing to help him get into the hero course. She was his only daughter and was already in class 1-A, when he heard the news it shocked the boy back then. Aizawa seemed too young to have a teenage daughter, especially one already in high school. Apparently, she was the product of young love that had been kept secret for all these years, with only a select few knowing of her real relationship to Aizawa. The two lovers were never married and her mother had died when she was fairly young. She had been bestowed her mother’s maiden name in order to protect her from the scrutiny that was sure to follow had the public known. Aizawa could have cared less about public reactions, but didn’t want to see his daughter hurt for his past discrepancies. For he knew that she would be the one to have to deal with the outcome and he loved her too much to put her through.
Shinsou was constantly training with Aizawa for months, and because of this the two had grown considerably close, inseparable even. She helped spar with him and would take it upon herself to help him get familiar with the hero coursework. It took awhile for Hitoshi to really open up to the girl, but when he did they became best friends. He had been alone for so long, and to have someone like her in his life was a pleasant change. She was constantly supporting his dreams of being a hero and when he finally made it into the hero course, she was beyond elated.
“Toshi! I knew you could do!” She had screamed as she tackled him to the ground. He couldn’t help the faint smile that had crept onto his face.
Sheepishly he responded, “Honestly, you were a big inspiration in all of this. If it wasn’t for Aizawa’s and your support. I don’t think I would have been able to do this.”
“Toshi, it’s because of you’re abilities that you were able to get in. Not because of us. Sure, we provided support and training, but only you could do this, and you did! Never doubt you’re abilities. There will still be hard ships because of the fear surrounding your quirk, but you’re going to make a great hero and I can’t wait to see the day you go pro!”
He could tell that she was beaming with pride for him. The smile on his face growing bigger from her words. “Yeah, you’re right.”
That had been one of his favorite memories of their time together, one that he fondly thought on occasion, when thoughts of her crossed his mind.  In the years that they had been parted, she had crept into his thoughts on a regular basis.  To say that he was in love with her was an understatement, though nothing more than friendship had been formed between them in high school. Both too busy with trying to become pros to focus on anything more, though it wasn’t like he hadn’t thought about it. It just never came to be.  He enjoyed being in her presence and was fine with their relationship at the moment.
Unfortunately, that was then and this was now. He hadn’t seen in her in the five years that she had been away. Communication cut off - not a single text, email, or phone call between the two in that time. He only had himself to blame for that, he mused. The bright hues of the summer sky quickly turned dark as nightfall soon greeted him on his walk home. As he looked up at the sky, it evoked a memory from his past, one that he thought of more often than not. A memory that plagued his thoughts every night. Secrets being shared in the dark between friends, soon turning into heartfelt passion and then later into misery and despair. The reoccurring memory forever playing in his mind as the last night he remembered ever truly being happy. That was before the pain he had inflicted upon himself by choosing to take the “hero’s” way out. It was the last night he ever saw her. Although Hitoshi stood by the choices he made that night, it didn’t mean that it made things any easier.
As he approached his door, he longed to see her again, to have her back in his life. He didn’t know if she would even want to even see him again after what he had done, but he prayed that she would give him a chance. If anything, just the chance to be apart of her life again. He missed the warmth of her friendship, of her laughter, of her smile. He missed her, all of her. She brought a light into his dark and dim life, and he would do anything to bring it back.
As he laid in bed, the quiet night air surrounding him as thoughts once again wandered back to her. The silence was suddenly disrupted by a quiet tone coming from his phone. A text message from his sidekick: Mari.
MARI: Great work again today hero! We make a really good team! Can’t wait to kick some more ass tomorrow.
She was a nice girl with an interesting quirk that allowed her to control others like puppets using shadows, either her own or ones already there. She had been placed with him because of the similarities in their abilities. The agency thought that it would be a great idea for Hitoshi to train her since she was still pretty green, just fresh out of high school, and for her to get some experience from someone with a similar quirk. Even though she was still pretty new she was beginning to really get the hang of everything. She had some growing but she was getting there. There were days that he pushed her, just as Aizawa had done for him, but only because he knew what the results could be.  They had grown close over the past two years that she had been with him. One could say even friends.
He was about to respond to his sidekick when a message came in from Midoriya. The two had grown closer since their days at U.A., they even worked at the same agency and frequently hung out together. Midoriya wasn’t the only one that he kept in touch with from high school. He frequently hung out with Kaminari and Kirishima, as well as occasionally Uraraka and Ashido. They were all great friends and companions but none of them could compare to her. He still kept in touch with his old sensei too. Hitoshi sometimes would inquire about how Aizawa’s daughter was doing. He never gave the boy any lengthy answers, they usually were the same short statements: “she’s good, she’s busy, she’s been working hard on this case.”. Never anything more.  Hitoshi didn’t know if it was because she had asked her father not to share with the boy or if it was simply because he couldn’t say anything more, but he never questioned it. He was the one who chose to have this burden.
MIDORIYA: I just wanted to give you a heads up. I just got off the phone with the president of the agency. He told me that a certain SOMEONE is going to be joining us soon. They’re holding a press conference in a few days to announce the news. It’s mandatory that everyone be there for it.
He nearly dropped his phone from reading the text. He had to reread the message a few times more to really let it sink in. It had felt like a hundred years had past since he had last seen her, and even though he knew she was coming back he never expected it to be like this. To have her this close to him once again. Any day now she would be back and he would have the chance to finally fix what he had broken so many years ago.
He couldn’t contain the flutter in his heart or the smile that appeared on his face as he eagerly awaited her arrival.
