"As cruel and painful as it may seem at times, we have to accept that some people can only be in our hearts, not in our lives."

One of my favorite "floating" verses
(That's a verse that periodically shows up in many different folk songs that share the same rhythm but have different melodies)
I'll eat when I'm hungry, And drink when I'm dry. And if the whiskey don't kill me, I'll live 'til I die.

"It shouldn't be like this."
"There isn't a way things should be. There's just what happens, and what we do."
"Well, couldn't you help him by magic?"
"I see to it that he's in no pain, yes," said Miss Level.
"But that's just herbs."
"It's still magic. Knowing things is magical, if other people don't know them."
Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky

children realize a lot more than you think
be wiser and kinder towards them, if you could
I take things too far - my mom and I were cooking in the kitchen when I found a much smaller bell pepper among the regular sized ones.
I showed her the cute baby bell pepper and she said, "aw it was picked before it was finished growing."
and I reflected on this bell pepper analogy :
what is an adult if not just an older being with more experience than a younger one?
but a lot of times adults hold too many expectations for children and that experience alone can cause the child to grow up too soon.
so when they question the world around them and the adult fails to get their message across, the young are quickly dismissed.. a child is too young to possibly understand, right?
not realizing the 'adult' is just too incomprehensive to relay a child's understanding, abandoning their inquisitive spirit.
so now these younger beings have been shown the real world without an explanation. they understand to their own extent whatever concept they've been taught.
their mind matures faster than their anatomy and it's because of this that they are dismissed quickly. The child can be involved and exposed to the toxicities of their environment but are not old enough to have a voice?
and of course, the younger being will express itself because the unfairness in this world can be recognized and the world has not yet shamed it for feeling (until it does).
these little bodies have big minds that get crucified because "the adult is always right" - diminishing all confidence and curiosity that makes a person real and an individual.
can you remember how aware you were as a child before you were filtered and silenced by your peers and the world around you?
if you were picked before you were finished growing, it is possible to find yourself again or maybe find a new you, whoever you are today or want to be tomorrow.
but listen, my little bell pepper, you will never find out if you stay in the same garden you were picked from.
I take things too far - and this is in no way a reflection of my mom she's great

Admit it. You aren’t like them. You’re not even close. You may occasionally dress yourself up as one of them, watch the same mindless television shows as they do, maybe even eat the same fast food sometimes. But it seems that the more you try to fit in, the more you feel like an outsider, watching the “normal people” as they go about their automatic existences. For every time you say club passwords like “Have a nice day” and “Weather’s awful today, eh?”, you yearn inside to say forbidden things like “Tell me something that makes you cry” or “What do you think deja vu is for?”
Face it, you even want to talk to that girl in the elevator. But what if that girl in the elevator (and the balding man who walks past your cubicle at work) are thinking the same thing? Who knows what you might learn from taking a chance on conversation with a stranger? Everyone carries a piece of the puzzle. Nobody comes into your life by mere coincidence. Trust your instincts. Do the unexpected. Find the others.

I don't trust people who insist on a hard separation between good and bad people. That kind of person never considers if what they're doing is wrong, because wrongs are something that bad people do, and since they're not a bad person, how could they possibly?
If someone tells you it doesn't take effort to be a good person, it means they don't make an effort to be a good person.
