To my fellow fanfiction readers,
When you're feeling alone, when you're sad, scared, lost, when you feel broken please try and remember this.
Your comfort character? Would absolutely adore you. They would think you were amazing, flaws and all. They would sit with you when you cried, they'd help you through every hardship.
They're here sweetheart, they're waiting for you, waiting for you to find the new story of your love, to revisit how you first met. They're so ready to fall in love with you all over again, and they will. Because they adore you. So please take care or yourself sweet one, they'd be so lost without you.
So what will it be tonight, friends to lovers? A/B/O? The one bed trope? Found family? Will you find eachother again after a time apart? Will it be smut or fluff? Love at first sight? Enemies to lovers? It's always exciting to start again isn't it? To rediscover how much you adore them.
I hope tomorrow is easier to live through than today, that you find that fic you're looking for, that safe place to land.
Remember your comfort character believes in you and so do I, the random girl on Tumblr, scrolling along with you, trying to make sure no one feels as alone as when they started. You are loved, matter, you are worth everything.

Wanted to share in case anyone wanted a reminder that you and your writing are loved and appreciated! THIS IS AWESOME
TO EVERYONE SAYING THEY'RE INSECURE ABOUT THEIR WRITTING:
I've been seeing a lot of people reposting their insecure about their writting and its really sad because ik for a FACT most of you write BEAUTIFULLY. So I just wanted to send some motivation because writting is hard, and writers deserve love. You guys are literally creating ENTIRE REALITIES with your imaginations . Wether it be fan ficts, short story writers, etc., You are giving us a key into experiencing the world from a different perspective. Your craft is an escape, your craft is inspiring. Its always good to want to be better, but please appreciate the work you're doing RIGHT NOW. It may not seem like much, but your stories are so much more than just words in a page. Its the adventure we never experienced, its the worlds we never got to see. Writers please, whatever you write, I want to assure you today it IS good enough. Because you bled your thoughts into the page, because you were brave enough to create. Writting doesnt have to be perfect, for perfection is nothing but a myth, writting just needs to exist. Insecurity is normal but let me tell you today, your writting is worth it, your ideas are worth it, your work is worth it.
Writers, keep your heads high, continue to poor your soul into your words and know you never have to punish yourself for creating
Much love for all of you

Happy Thanksgiving
Summary:  When the lines of friendship have been blurred, you and Dean must decide where to draw that line again.
A/N:  I was originally going to make this a four part “holiday” series, and I still might, but I did decide to go a little bit of a different direction with this part.  I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Read Part One:  Happy Halloween
Tumblr media
You glanced up as they entered the room, one set of boots echoing on the floor behind the other.  Without a word, you quickly averted your eyes back to the files you had spread out in front of you, hoping that they wouldn’t ask too many questions.  You had been sorting through them for a few hours, but you were so distracted it was hard to remember most of what you were reading.
“Still hard at work.  Find anything interesting?”  San asked, sitting down across from you and absentmindedly flipping through some of the pages.
“Not yet.  It would help if we had some idea of what we were looking for.”  You said, leaning back in your chair and running your hands across your face, pushing back your hair from your eyes.
“Why don’t you take a break.  Let us have a crack at it for a while.”  Dean suggested.  You could hear the slight concern in his tone and you sighed, getting up from your place.
“Maybe so.  I’ll go make some fresh coffee.  That stuff has been in there for hours.”
You could feel Sam glancing between the two of you which told you that even he could feel the uncomfortable tension that had settled between the two of you.  It wasn’t harsh or angry, you weren’t fighting with each other, it was just weird. It had been since Halloween.
You ducked your head as you walked by, more out of embarrassment than anything else.  Your mind had a terrible habit of replaying the last few minutes of that night every single time you were in the same room as him.
“Oh, I want to.”  He replied, a mischievous smirk on his lips. “I just know it could really mess things up.”
“Not if we don’t let it.”
“Dean!  Y/N!  Come on guys, we got to go…”  Sam’s voice echoed through the bunker.  He sounded panicked and the two of you jumped up instantly, the past few moments forgotten.
“Sammy?  What’s wrong?”  Dean called back, swinging open the door and meeting him in the war room with you following closely behind.
“It's Garth.  He called and said that he needs help.”
Sam proceeded to explain that Garth and two other hunters were pinned down not far from the bunker as he gathered a few items to take in the duffle bag.  Within moments the three of you were loaded in the impala and tearing down the asphalt to get to them.  After a couple of days, the smoke cleared and everyone was okay, and you all went back home.  Neither of you addressed the night of Halloween and now it had been so long you didn’t even know how to approach it again.
You poured coffee grinds into the filter and added water, just leaning on the counter as you watched it stream into the pot.
“You look like you are a thousand miles away.”  Sam mentioned.  You jumped at the sound of his voice.  “Sorry.”
“It's fine.  I’m just a little on edge.”  You told him.
“Why do I get the feeling that this has more to do with my brother than this case?”
You started to protest and then stopped.  “Maybe a little of both.”  You admitted.  “Jody doesn’t call and ask for help often and when she does and I can’t find any answers it is frustrating.  On top of that, things are weird with Dean and me and I don’t really know how to fix that either.”
“You know how Dean is.  He would rather ignore something and hope it goes away than deal with it.  Sometimes you just have to force him to face it.”  Sam replied, with a shrug.  “As far as Jody, we’ll figure it out.  We always do.”
You smiled.  “Thanks Sam.”  You replied, reaching out and gently resting your hand on his arm as you walked past him back to the library.  “I’m going to bring up that last box of files from the storeroom.”
The three of you were about half way through the last box of files when Sam uttered in the silence “Guys, I think this is it.”
He passed the pages to both of you and once you were all in agreement he called Jody to tell her what he had found.
“I’m beat.  I say we clean this stuff up in the morning,”  Dean said, standing up and twisting his back to stretch his muscles.  He turned to and headed toward the bedrooms, making it only to the hallway door before you stopped him.
“You realize we have done exactly what neither of us wanted, and we didn’t even get to enjoy the fun part.”
Dean didn’t turn around and you patiently waited, trying to swallow down the nerves in your stomach until you saw his shoulders shake a little and you knew he was chuckling under his breath.
“Yeah, I noticed.”  He admitted, finally turning around and facing you.
“Think we can do something to change that?” You challenged.
“Change what?  The awkwardness or the lack of fun?”  He teased, playing along.  You smirked.
“Preferably both.”  You replied, laughing along with him as he threw his whole body into it.
You stepped up to him and took a deep breath before getting serious.  “Look, I just want my best friend back.  I’m sorry if I pushed something I shouldn’t have or made it weird.  I’ll do whatever it takes, just tell me it's not too late.”
Dean reached out and pulled you against him, wrapping his arms around you.  You breathed a little easier and rested your head against his shoulder.  “It’s never too late.”  He whispered in your ear and you smiled.
Dean pulled back, glancing behind him to make sure Sam hadn’t come back before he continued.
“This is my fault.  I shouldn’t have done that the other night in the first place.  Then we went on that hunt and it just seemed like one thing after another.  Before I knew it, weeks had gone by and I didn’t know what to say to you.  I just couldn’t get out of my own head so I avoided it.”
“I’m not made of glass, Dean.  You could have just told me you didn’t want to.”
“No, that’s not what…..geez, this is coming out all wrong.”  He muttered, running his hand through his hair and turning away.
Dean started to walk away frustrated, but you reached out and grabbed his wrist to stop him.  “Please, just tell me what you want.  Whatever it is.”
“Y/N, I’ve liked you for a long time.  I didn’t want to lose you, so I never said anything.  I just tried to ignore it.  When we kissed the other night, I don't’ know….it just felt so natural.  Sam and me, we spend most of our lives struggling in one way or another, but being with you is easy.  It just fits.”
Dean turned his wrist until he was holding your hand as he stepped closer to you.  You could feel your heart and it sounded like it was pounding inside your ears.  Dean reached up with his other hand and gently traced your face with his thumb.
“Truth is, I want you.  I always have.”  He added.
“You’re never going to lose me, Dean.  I love you too much to let that happen.”  You promised.  You leaned in and kissed him softly on the lips before wrapping your arms around his neck and hugging him.
“It’s about time the two of you kissed and made up.”  Sam said, catching you both off guard.  You turned to see him standing on the opposite side of the room with a smug grin on his face.  “Jody said the girls should be back from the hunt around 6 if we want to come have Thanksgiving dinner with them.”
“I think that’s a great idea.  We certainly have a lot to be thankful for.”  You replied, giving Dean a wink.

It was always you, Dean. It will always be YOU.
I screamed in desperation. I sobbed until my eyes burned and I was choking on air. I pleaded....Don't go, I can't do this, please don't leave.
I would have lied to you because you begged to hear those words, needed to hear those words - "It's ok"
The whole time I would have felt the panic and heartache inside reminding me that you are the one that has made me strong and I don't know how to carry on without you.
It's not okay, none of this is okay.....I'm not okay

Happy Halloween
Summary: Watching movies with your best friend leads to a surprise ending
A/N: I meant to post this for Halloween, but the weekend kind of got away from me.  Since there were no trick or treats here, I didn’t have any candy for Halloween in the house and I wanted something sweet.....so I wrote a little fluff piece.  Enjoy!
Tumblr media
“What are you doing down here?”  Dean asked from the doorway of the Dean Cave.  You jumped a little at the sound of his voice and glanced back at him over your shoulder.
“Nothing.”  You replied, trying to hide the candied popcorn in your lap.  He chuckled as his eyes settled on the container of mixed chocolates on the small table set between the two recliners.
“I see.”  He teased.  “Hey, is that the Charlie Brown Halloween?”  Dean asked, focusing on the TV.
“Yes.”  You admitted.  “It’s a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.  It’s kind of a tradition in my family and I didn’t want you guys to make fun of me for watching a cartoon.”
“I think you are forgetting who you are talking to.”  Dean reminded you, walking into the room and settling down in the other chair.  “You’ve seen me watch Snobby Doo and who knows what else.”
You chuckled as you rolled your eyes a little.  “That’s fair.”  You told him, handing the popcorn out so he could take a handful.
You met the Winchesters at The Roadhouse and it wasn’t long after that you started hunting with them on and off.  Through the years, the three of you had been through a lot together and Dean had fast become your closest friend.
“This was always playing at the motels we stayed at as kids..”  Dean said, gesturing to the TV and pulling you out of your memories. “Sam and I watched it every year, until I got more interested in Halloween parties.  The more Sam found out about the life, the more he hated Halloween so …” Dean explained, shrugging his shoulders.
“Yeah, it does kind of lose its magic when you know what’s really going on out there.”  You admitted.  “Did you ever dress up and go trick or treating?”
“Sure, once or twice when I thought we could get away with it.  We went as a couple of ghosts using the bed sheets one year.”  He said, chuckling a little.  “One year I swiped super hero costumes from the Halloween store, then Sam ended up breaking his arm jumping off the roof.”
“I think he told me about that one.”
“Yeah, I think that is the last time we did the whole costume thing.”  Dean confessed.  “I figured you would be watching scary movies for Halloween anyway.”  He added, changing the subject.
“Nah, they are all on my laptop and I didn’t feel like watching them by myself.”  You replied.
“I’ll watch them with you.” He said simply.
“Really?  I thought you said they were boring.  You never get scared watching them.”
“No, but you do.”  He teased.  “It’s kind of adorable to watch someone who is a fearless badass at fighting monsters get scared at those silly movies.”
“Thanks a lot.”  You scoffed, a little embarrassed and threw a small handful of popcorn at him.
“Hey!”  He shouted playfully, and you both started laughing. “So, what do you say?”  He asked, picking up the popcorn and throwing a couple of pieces back at you.
“Alright, you’re on.” You answered.  “My room in 20 min?  I’m going to put this stuff back up in the kitchen.”
“You got it, but this candy is coming with me.”  Dean replied, picking up the small container of chocolates and holding it close to his chest.  You shook you head as he grinned and headed back down the hall.
Tumblr media
When you walked into your room, Dean was already leaning against the headboard of your bed with the laptop set up next to him.  You grinned and hopped up next to him and started the movie.  You loved watching scary movies and often ended up leaning forward, completely tense during the scariest parts.
Half way through the movie, you jumped and you could hear Dean snickering quietly.  You glared at him over your shoulder and playfully shoved his knee, but that only made him laugh harder.  He reached out and pulled you back to him and wrapped an arm around you as you rested your head on his chest.
“I’m sorry.  It’s just cute.”  He teased, squeezing you harder when you tried to pull back, your cheeks turning red.
You moved away, but he moved with you and for a moment both of you froze, only inches apart.  You didn’t know who moved first, or even what you were thinking, but your lips met his and suddenly everything changed.  You felt his hand slide down your back and you leaned into him, kissing him deeper.
Dean pulled back, ducking his head and squeezing his eyes closed tight.  He took a couple of deep breaths and you waited, afraid to even move. “I’m sorry.  That shouldn’t have happened.”  He said, trying to catch his breath.
“Maybe not.”  You whispered.  You had never thought of Dean as anything more than a friend, but now that you had, all you could think about was how every part of you wanted to be more. “But since it did….can we do it again?”
He glanced up at you, surprised.  You simply raised an eyebrow at him and brushed your lips lightly against his. You stayed close, letting your fingers trace the outline of his jaw and looking up as his eyes danced.
“Are you sure about that?” He asked, studying your reaction. You smiled
“If you are.”  You answered.  “You’re my best friend.  I don’t want you to do something you don’t want to…”
“Oh, I want to.”  He replied, a mischievous smirk on his lips. “I just know it could really mess things up.”
“Not if we don’t let it.”
ToBeContinued......

Someone You Loved
Summary: Loving someone isn’t always enough, but feeling loved is everything
Warnings: lots of angst, Angry/Hurt Dean
A/N: Written for @atc74 Collaboration Contest.  Based on the song Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi.  This song made me think of Dean instantly, but hearing the title line hurt deep and I knew right then I had to write it.  I hope you like how it turned out.
Thank you for reading, and please feel free to let me know what you think.  I love the feedback <3
Tumblr media
“You’re telling me, in the entire country, there isn’t one single monster or demon to hunt?”  Dean practically shouted in disbelief.  Sam looked up at him with his patented bitch face before rolling his eyes.  “Come on Sammy.  I need a case.”
“No, Dean.  You need to rest.  You have been going nonstop for a week and if you keep going like this, you are going to burn yourself out.”  Sam reminded him.  Dean scoffed.
“I’m fine.”  He replied dismissively.
“Dean…”
“I said I’m fine.” Dean repeated with more force.
“Fine.”  Sam muttered, throwing up his hands in surrender.  Dean glared at him, shaking his head as he turned and walked toward the liquor cabinet.
Out of the corner of his eye Sam saw you, leaning against the doorway to the hall with your arms crossed and a look of heartbreak on your face.  You had hoped that spending a few days on a hunt and releasing some of his anger would mellow things between the two of you.
“What’s gotten into you?” You challenged, stepping out into the room with them.  His eyes squinted and he shook his head, turning away from you instead of answering. Angrily, you reached out and grabbed the sleeve of his jacket, spinning him back around to face you.  “Hey! Talk to me damn it.” You insisted.
Sam raised an eyebrow at the scene unfolding in front of him.  It was intensely quiet for a moment, neither of you ready to budge and Sam couldn’t help but remember all the times Dean had stared at him and John in the same type of staring death match.  How helpless he must have felt at the time.
Dean chewed on the inside of his cheek, mulling over his choices.  He wanted to stay angry, to fight with you or storm out of the room, but instead his shoulders sank and he leaned back against the edge of the table behind him.
“I’m going to go get that…um” Sam stumbled, rising from his chair as soon as he saw that no one was going to come to blows.  “that … other book from my room.”  He threw the words out, and with a quick glance between the two of you, made his exit down the hallway.
You released Dean’s jacket, shifting your weight impatiently.
“I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved.”  He admitted.
“Dean….I will always love you.”  you told him, reaching out for him, but he flinched and you let your hand fall back to your side.  “It was never about not being able to love you.”
“Then what is it about?”
“It’s about…”  You paused, sighing and looking for the right words to explain it to him.  “For years, I watched as you lost yourself in alcohol, hunting, and any girl that was cute enough to catch your eye.  It was hard, and it hurt, but we were only friends and I thought I could live with it. Then, for a few months, I got to know what it was like to turn to you when I needed someone.  I thought it would be enough, but….”
“What do you want from me? You want a house with 2 kids and a golden retriever in the backyard?  A white picket fence maybe?  Two people sitting on the front porch together on Sunday afternoons?”  He waved his hand in the air at the visual he created, his frustration returning.  He scoffed, adding, “That ain’t me.  It was never meant to be my life.”
It had taken him years to let go of that picture, of the apple pie life he wanted so much when he was younger.  Even now, the words still stung and you could see it in his eyes.
“I know that you believe that.”  You answered, biting back the tears.
“You know what?  I’m sorry this life isn’t good enough for you – that I’m not good enough for you.”  He snapped.
And there it was, the reflection of what he heard when you told him you wanted more.  He never thought he could do better, or that he deserved it.  What he thought was that he wasn’t enough.  You felt a pain in your chest as he shook his head and started to walk away from you.
“Dean, I…”  You started, but a swift wave of his hand behind him cut you off.
“Where are you going now?” Sam called out after him from the bottom of the stairs as he walked back into the war room.
“The bar.”  Dean replied, not looking back.
Sam sighed as the bunker door closed behind his older brother.  He watched as you rolled your eyes and spun around, heading back down the hall without saying a word.
Tumblr media
By the time Dean reached the bar, he felt even more restless and he cursed under his breath that there didn’t seem to be anything to hunt.
“This may be the first time I’ve actually wanted to find a vamp at the bar.”  He muttered under his breath.  Instead, he swallowed down his anger with a few glasses of whiskey, momentarily forgetting that there was only pain at the bottom of that bottle until it was too late.
The drunker he became, the more he simply wanted a distraction.  He wanted a way to forget about all of the ways he had failed.  More than that, he wanted to prove that he was okay without you.
His eyes followed the dark haired waitress as she wandered around the room, serving patrons.  Before long she noticed and found herself gravitating toward him as the night slowed down.  She was mesmerized by his green eyes and full lips.
She was cute and funny and Dean enjoyed making her laugh with lame jokes.  He liked the way she threw her whole body into it.  When she made a move to kiss him, he kissed her back, his hands sliding around her waist.  His held her in his arms like he was trying to hold himself together.
She was exactly the kind of woman he gone to the bar to find.  But no matter what she did, she wasn’t you. So, he spent most of the night pouring another shot of whiskey and throwing it down his throat to try and drown the ache that filled his chest.
Tumblr media
You woke up from a nightmare, reaching out next to you instinctively, but when your hand touched only an empty pillow you remembered that you were laying there alone.  The silence in the bunker felt deafening and you couldn’t escape the thoughts that ran through your mind, preventing you from returning to sleep.  Frustrated, you climbed out of bed and made you way toward the kitchen.
“Everything okay?” Sam’s voice came from behind you and you jumped, turning to see him in the library with a table full of books in front of him.  “Sorry.” He added when he realized he had startled you.
“I didn’t see you there. I, uh, just woke up and wanted some water.”  You lied, gesturing to the kitchen.  “What are you doing up?”
“Couldn’t sleep.”  He replied.  Hearing him say that made you feel less vulnerable in admitting it yourself.
“Me either.”  You quietly corrected.
“I kind of figured.” He said, sympathetically.  “Does that have anything to do with my brother?”
“You knew?  Did Dean tell you?”
“Not exactly.  He hasn’t really been in a chatty mood, but it’s hard not to notice what’s been going on between you two.”  Sam admitted.  You nodded, unable to meet his eyes.
“Do you remember that hunt in Mississippi a few months ago?”  You asked.  Sam pressed his lips tightly together and nodded, waiting for you to continue.  “I think the fact that we couldn’t save all of those families kind of got to me.  I started having nightmares again, like I did when my parents died.  I ended up walking out for some fresh air and Dean was sitting in the impala outside of the motel.”
“I knew that case bothered him more than he was letting on.”  Sam muttered, shaking his head.
“He let me sit in the car with him and we talked about everything.  When I admitted to him that I was dreaming about what happened to my parents again, and that’s why I had gone out there, he told me about how he used to dream about your mom, and that he sometimes still does.”  You explained.
“He let his guard down with you.”  Sam observed.
“I guess we both did.” You replied with a shrug.  “Anyway, it changed things between us and ever since then….well, you get the idea.” You looked away from his sympathetic eyes as your words faded, failing to hide the hurt in your own.
“Come here.”  Sam said, grabbing your hand and pulling you to your feet.  He wrapped his arms tightly around you and held you tenderly.  “I’m not my brother, but if you ever need anyone to talk to, I’m here.”
“Thank you, Sam.”  You whispered against his chest as you closed your eyes for a moment.  “I guess I just spent so long wanting to know what it felt like to have someone really care about me, and now….”
“I care about you, and no matter what happened between you and Dean, I can promise you that he does too.” Sam added, stepping back so he could look you in the eyes for emphasis.
“I wish I could believe that.”  You replied, sadly.  “Truth is, I was getting really used to that feeling.”
You could see his shoulders sink a little at your words, and he squeezed your hand gently.  You took a deep breath and smiled, determined not to break.
“I just feel like I had the rug pulled out from under me right now, but I’ll be okay.”  You promised, although in your heart you weren’t completely sure if you would be.
You forced a smile and stepped backwards before turning to head back to your room.  Sam’s words stopped you as soon as you reached the hall.
“You’re going to leave, aren’t you?”
“I think I should.” You answered, without turning to look at him.  “It just doesn’t feel right to stay here, so I’ll pack up and head out tomorrow.”
Tumblr media
Two Years Later:
Sam tried everything to direct Dean anywhere other than the small burger joint in downtown.  They had almost made it, checking in with the family one last time before heading home from a hunt.  Then the victim’s husband said they had the best apple pie in the state and Sam head fell down to his chest.  He knew Dean wouldn’t be able to resist.
“Dean, Sam.  I didn’t know you were here.”  You said, your husband standing at your side and holding your daughter in his arms.
Sam looked at his brother, but Dean didn’t say a word.  After what felt like an eternity of awkward silence, Sam stepped toward you.
“It’s good to see you Y/N.” He said, pulling you into a welcome hug. He shook hands with your husband who seemed oblivious to the tension lingering in the air.
“Sorry, this is Sam and his brother Dean.  They were friends of mine when I lived in Kansas.”  You explained, never taking your eyes off Dean who remained stoically silent, unmoved from where he stood when he saw you.  You tried to read his expression as Sam explained simply that they were passing through town on business and heading back home.
“We just stopped to grab some dinner for the road.”  Dean finally added, confirming that he had heard every word.
With that, he turned and walked to the counter as Sam continued to chat with you both.  You never took your eyes away from Dean.  He moved different, not as light as he used to. Even as he paid the cashier and pocketed his change, his shoulders were tense and the smile was forced.
“I’ll just give you guys a bit to catch up.  I’ll see you inside.”  Your husband said, shaking Sam’s hand once more.
“I’m guessing you didn’t tell them we owned the place?”  You asked, scrunching up your nose as you did.  Sam looked down at the ground and shook his head.
“I guess I should have.” He admitted and you chuckled lightly.
“Sammy!  We got to roll.”  Dean called out, heading straight for the impala with the food bags in his arms.
You heard Sam’s sympathetic sigh as he gave you a tight-lipped smile and let his hand trace lightly down your shoulder.  “I’m sorry.” He whispered.
“It’s ok.”  You replied, shaking your head.  As you watched them get into the impala, you could faintly hear the bitter sweet sounds of bickering between them as they shut the doors.  With a brief wave from Sam out the passenger window, they were gone.
“You didn’t have to be like that, Dean.”  Sam scolded. “You could have at least talked to her.”
“There’s nothing to say.” He replied, shrugging but keeping his eyes on the road.
“You really think I don’t know you keep a picture of the two of you in this car.  I see you sneak it out after a bad hunt or when you don’t think anyone will notice.”  Sam told him.
The sun had almost set and he reached over to flip on the headlights.  As he did, he pulled a small photo from the compartment next to the steering wheel.
“What?  You mean this old thing?  I forgot it was even in here.”  He lied.  Sam scoffed, rolling his eyes and turning to look out of the window.
Dean glanced at the photo in his hand, slightly running his thumb along the edge of it.  Sam was right.  There had been many nights over the last two years that felt longer than others and he would retreat to the solace of his precious impala, take out that photograph, maybe drink a little too much, and close his eyes to remember what it felt like to be in your arms.
“It doesn’t matter anymore anyway.”  He muttered, surprising Sam.  “It was all or nothing, and it looks like she ended up getting it all – everything she wanted that I couldn’t give her.”
“You could have that too, Dean.”  Sam insisted, his brow furrowed.  Dean huffed and rolled his eyes, glaring over at his little brother.
“What world are you living in, Sam?”  He asked sarcastically.
“A world where my brother knows exactly who and what he wants, and for the past two years has been too stubborn to admit it.  She loved you, Dean.”
“Yeah, and for a moment, I got real used to being someone she loved, but I can’t stand by and watch him be that person now.  It’s over Sam.  It was over a long time ago.”
Dean looked down once more at the picture he held in his hand and slowly let it go out the window, the wind catching it.  Even though the impala’s taillights illuminated it’s way as it floated down to the road behind them, Dean never looked back to see it land.

The One With The Road Trip
Summary:  Dean wants to go on a road trip with the girl he loves, but you have no idea all of the surprises he has in store for you.
Word Count: 2,078
Warnings:  lots of fluff -- (You may want to see a dentist after this)
A/N:  Written for @smol-and-grumpy Friends Title Challenge.  Thank you for hosting a fun challenge with lots of great prompts!
Please feel free to let me what you think.  I love the feedback!!  <3
Tumblr media
“What are you doing?” You groaned, throwing the blanket back over your head as he chuckled.  Dean set the bag down on the floor and jumped onto the bed with you.
“Come on, it will be fun.” He promised, squeezing your sides to tickle you underneath the covers.  You squirmed, playfully pushing him off you and nuzzling your face into his chest.
“Staying in bed on a cold morning can be kind of fun too.”  You suggested and you could feel his body shake with a deep laugh.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep you warm.”  He said in your ear, kissing your cheek and climbing out of the bed.
You sighed, rolling your eyes as you finally agreed to get up.  “Promises, promises.”  You teased, giving him a sideways smirk as he walked back down to the hall toward the kitchen.
Although you wondered what Dean had up his sleeve, you enjoyed days when he was in a playful mood.  It wasn’t often that he seemed happy and his lighter side came out, and that is the biggest reason you agreed to get up early on a brisk winter morning when there was finally a break between hunts.
As you dressed, you could hear Dean talking to his brother Sam in the kitchen.  “We should be back by tomorrow night.”
“Just be careful.  We still haven’t heard anything back from Cas about what is happening in Heaven and the angels.”  Sam told him.  Dean nodded.
“We will be.  If you hear anything, just give me a call and we’ll high tail it back here.”  He promised, his serious voice returning.
“I don’t suppose he is telling you where we are going.”  You hinted to Sam as you came into the kitchen.
“Don’t you dare.” Dean threatened his little brother as he put a couple of thermoses in the green ice chest and headed out to the garage.
“Maybe, but I am sworn to secrecy.”  Sam told you.
“You’re no help at all.” You told him, squinting your eyes. Sam only shrugged and pretended to zip his lips together, tossing an imaginary key over his shoulder.
“Okay…”  Dean announced as he came back inside. “Duffel bags are in the trunk, provisions in the back seat, all I’m missing is my girl.”
You blushed, grinning from ear to ear at his endearment.  Dean was still the only guy you knew that could make you feel like a lovesick teenager.
“Have fun.”  Sam whispered, giving you a quick side hug.
Tumblr media
You climbed in the passenger seat and glanced in the back seat at a few provisions that Dean had carefully packed.  “Are you going to tell me what we are doing?”
“Just going on a road trip.” He replied with a slight shrug of his shoulders.  He pulled out of the garage and turned down the road, punching the gas and the impala took off.
“A road trip?”
“Yes.”  He confirmed, chuckling lightly at your suspicion.  “What’s wrong with that?”
“Nothing.”  You replied, cautiously dragging out the word. He looked over to see you squinting your eyes and pursing your lips as you watched him drive.
“What?”  he asked innocently.
“I just….”  You started, shaking your head.  “You literally go on road trips for a ‘living’ and that’s what you want to do when we don’t have any hunts on the radar?”
“Okay, that’s fair.” He admitted.  “I wanted to spend a day or two with you when we didn’t have the whole ‘end of the world’ thing breathing down our neck.  You know, just go somewhere like normal people.”
“So, is this a ‘Dean Road Trip’ or a ‘Sam Road Trip’?”  You asked, smirking at the way he looked at you.
“What does that even mean?”
“You know….Sam likes to have everything planned out beforehand.  Every turn and stop marked on that map in the glove box.  You – well, you like to just wing it.”  You explained and he laughed so hard the car swerved for a moment.  “I just want to know what I’m in for.”  You added.
“The destination is set, but otherwise we are winging it.”  He replied, his eyes dancing as he looked back at you.
“Do I get to know the destination?”  You asked, giving him your best puppy dog eyes.
“Minnesota.”  He replied, obviously enjoying the game he was playing with you.
“What in the world is in Minnesota?”
“You’ll see.”  He teased and you playfully rolled your eyes. “Now pick out some music and just have some fun.”
“Now I know you are going crazy.”  You told him, picking up the tape box and putting one of the cassettes into the impala. “You are letting the passenger pick the music.”
“Just don’t tell Sammy.” He laughed.  He rested his arm along the back of the seat and you slid over close to him, leaning your head against his shoulder.
Tumblr media
The two of you stopped often along the drive to break up the miles.  A few times at little gas stations filled with junk food, tacky souvenirs, and slushy machines.  Although most were small and didn’t have many options, you had always preferred them to the large chains along the interstates.  You thought they had personality and many times you would find the treats you enjoyed as a kid that were hard to find nowadays.
As Dean bought a handful of snacks, including a few you knew he hated but you loved, you picked up a small toy souvenir.  Dean watched as you set it on the dashboard of the impala, debating for a moment before he simply sighed and let it stay there - at least for the trip.
The two of you stopped for lunch at a little 50’s style diner and stopped at the World’s Largest Ball of Twine and to take a selfie with Jolly Green Giant Statue before continuing down the road.  Dean found a quiet park next to a lake and stopped so they two of you could eat dinner that evening.  There were some old worn picnic tables and Dean unpacked the sandwiches he had packed in the back of the car.
“Too bad it’s so cold or we could go swimming in that water.”  You commented, looking out at the lake.  You felt Dean get up from the table and turned to see a mischievous look on his face. “Oh, no….don’t you dare!”  You insisted, pointing a finger at him.
He came around the table and you jumped up, running away from him.  It only took him a few feet to wrap his arms around your waist, lifting you off the ground and you screamed at him.  He threatened to throw you into the water and then laughed as you tried to fight your way free.  Dean set you back on the ground, but held you close to him.
“I wouldn’t do that to you.” He said unconvincingly.
“You better not, Dean Winchester.”  You threatened.  He leaned down and kissed you a few times before loosening his hold on you.
“Come on, we still have a little farther to go.”  He said, grabbing your hand and leading you back to the car.
Tumblr media
Hours later you felt Dean lightly shake your shoulder to wake you when he pulled the car to a stop. It was pitch black outside but you could see something reflecting off of the water in front of the car.  You didn’t remember falling asleep and stretched a little before climbing out of the car.  As soon as you did, you realized that what you saw reflecting on the water was coming from the sky above.
You stared in amazement at the northern lights spreading out in front of you in all the colors of the rainbow as you made your way to the front of the impala.
“Dean!  This is amazing.”  You exclaimed looking up at the colors dancing in the night sky.
“Well, it’s not Denali.” He shrugged.  You looked over at him leaning on the grill of the car, stunned that he would remember that you had always wanted to go to Denali to see the Aurora Borealis.  “When I heard that this year was supposed to be a good year for this kind of thing, I figured it was worth a shot.”
“You planned this whole thing just for the northern lights?  I had no idea….”  You shook your head in disbelief, but Dean only shrugged.
“I didn’t want to say anything in case it didn’t work.  Everything I read said there was no guarantee and I didn’t want you to be disappointed if it didn’t happen.” He admitted.
You turned to stand in front of him, placing your hands on his cheeks and kissing him softly.  “You could never disappoint me.”  You whispered against his lips.  He chuckled as you leaned your forehead against his. “I know that’s not what you meant, but this road trip has been wonderful.  You were right, it was nice to get to spend some time with you outside of hunting.”
“So you had fun?”  he teased.  You laughed and nodded.
“A lot of fun.  And this…”  You said turning around to look at the lights again.  “This is kind of perfect.”
Dean wrapped his arms around your waist and put his chin on your shoulder as you leaned back against his chest.  In spite of the frigid air, you felt warm and smiled, remembering his promise from that morning.
“I’m glad you feel that way cause perfect is kind of what I was going for.”  He said, moving his arm a bit to pull something out of his pocket and hold it out in front of you.
You glanced down at his hand and it took a moment for your eyes to realize what it was.  Suddenly you pushed your body forward and turned to stare at him in disbelief.  Dean was grinning from ear to ear, watching your face as you processed the ring you saw in his outstretched hand.
“Is that….?  Are you serious?”  You asked finally.  Dean nodded.
Tumblr media
Sam wandered restlessly around the empty bunker, glancing down at the phone in his hand every few minutes.  He tried updating the hunter’s journals but when he found himself re-reading the same sentence a third time he growled in frustration and pushed the books away.  He tried working out, something that usually allowed him to get out of his own head, but at the end he felt more tense than relaxed.   He grabbed a beer from the kitchen and plopped down in the library tossing the phone down on the table in front of him.
“This is ridiculous.” He mumbled to the empty room.  “You’d think I was the one asking.”
Sam rolled his eyes, taking another drink from the bottle before setting it down on the table.  He glanced at the carved initials next to it, thinking back to the day him and Dean had added their mark.  The corner of his mouth turned upward in a smile at the memory.
That had been only days before Dean met you and six months before you came to live with them at the bunker.  Although Dean and Sam were still the same people that carved their mark that night, the relationship that began between you and Dean had changed both of you, and Sam had enjoyed having a front row seat to see Dean find the hope and joy he had thought he lost.
Sam picked up the cell phone, noticing the time was just after midnight.  He debated, turning the phone over and over in his fingers. Finally, unable to resist any longer, he typed a message to Dean.
S – Well??
He watched the screen, but received no sign that Dean had seen the message or that he was going to get a response.  Sam sighed, setting the phone back on the table and picking up his beer.  As he took a drink, the phone buzzed.  Sam jumped up, spilling beer down his shirt and he cursed under his breath.  Running his hand along his jeans to wipe the beer away, he picked up the phone with the other.
D – She said yes!!
Sam closed his eyes as relief and excitement replaced the nervous feeling he had ever since Dean told him what he was planning to do.  He responded with a smile on his face.
S - Congratulations brother.  See you when you get home.

Forgive Me
Summary: Sometimes the memories you make are worth the risks you take
Word Count: 2005
Warnings: lots angst in this one, mention of fears, anxiety, and broken hearts
A/N:  I am participating in @supernatural-jackles Bi_Weekly writing challenge and this is my first submission.  (Thank you for a fun challenge)  I ended up using 6 of the prompts and they are all bold in the fic below.
Please feel free to let me know what you think.  I love the feedback. <3
Tumblr media
You stood frozen, staring at the huge door and trying to force yourself to reach up and knock.  It had been two months since you stepped across that threshold, leaving your home and the only man you had ever loved behind.
“You can do this, Y/N.” You told yourself under your breath. You closed your eyes, squeezing them tight, and wrapped your knuckles on the door before you could change your mind. As soon as you did, you felt a knot in your stomach and you planted your feet sternly to keep from running away.
Dean flung open the door, surprised to see you standing on the other side.  You watched as the muscles in his face twitched, his eyes scanning you to be sure he wasn’t seeing things before they rested intensely on your face.  He crossed his arms smugly and leaned a shoulder against the door frame.
“What are you doing here?” He asked without revealing anything in his tone.
You’re eyes immediately fell to the ground in front of you and you took a deep shaky breath.  “I wasn’t sure if you wanted to see me, but I wanted to see you.”  You replied softly, glancing back up at him.
“I don’t want to talk to you right now.”
“But Dean….”  You began, hating yourself for sounding like you were begging.  That wasn’t why you had come.  Dean scoffed.
“No, Y/N.  You made it perfectly clear what you wanted when you walked out.”  He snapped. You caught movement over his shoulder, taking your attention away from his glare for a moment.  Dean glanced behind him when your eyes darted in that direction.
“Is everything okay?” A velvet voice asked.  You watched in stunned silence as a beautiful girl walked up to his side with concern on her face.
“Yeah, it’s fine. I’ll catch up with you later, okay?” He replied, gently.  She let her fingertips rest on his arm for an instant and gave you a tight lipped smile as she stepped past you and walked away to her car.
“Is that your girlfriend?” You asked, watching her get inside and drive off.
“I don’t owe you an explanation.”
“You’re right.  You don’t.”  You admitted with a sigh.  “But, Dean, are you going to hate me forever?”  You pressed.
Dean just shrugged his shoulders, but you could see his anger crack, revealing a sadness in his eyes. He must have realized it because he rolled his eyes and his tongue darted across his lips instead of answering you.
“Guess I can’t hate you for telling the truth.  Loving me is a death sentence.”  He finally mumbled, his arms unfolding as he did.  He shoved his hands in his pockets.
“I didn’t mean that.” You told him, the words coming out in a whisper. Hearing those words thrown back at you felt like a dagger in your heart and you felt a panic as your vision blurred with tears.  “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come.”
You turned to leave, wanting to run before he saw your tears.  A solitary sob broke free from your throat as you dropped your purse and you scrambled to pick it up.
“Wait….”  Dean said.  You looked up at him to see him flinch, his own inability to let you leave frustrating him.  He closed his eyes for a moment and then reached out his hand to help you back up off the ground.  “You don’t have to go.  Come on inside, if you want.”
You couldn’t hide the surprise on your face, feeling like you hadn’t heard him correctly.  He grinned slightly and his thumb brushed a tear from your cheek.  “Come on.” He added, stepping to the side. With his free hand, he gesturing to the door and followed as you timidly went inside.
Everything looked exactly the same, and for a moment you almost forgot that it wasn’t your home anymore. When the realization hit you again, you quickly shook it out of your mind to keep from crying again.
Your eyes followed Dean as he walked confidently past you and headed to the bar.  He filled a glass that already had a small amount of whiskey in it.  He offered you one, but you just shook your head and he shrugged.  He took the glass in one hand, the bottom sliding along the counter as he dragged it with him.  He walked back around and sat down at the table.
“Don’t take this the wrong way or anything, but what exactly did you think was going to happen when you knocked on that door?”  He asked you.
You looked up at the ceiling, almost laughing at how much you had missed his bluntness.  His eyebrow raised, and you just shook your head to brush the thought away.
“Honestly?”  You began, slowly walking over to the table and sliding down across from him.  “I don’t know what I expected.  I just wanted a chance to tell you that I am sorry for everything that happened and to tell you that I missed you.”
“Missed me?”  He huffed.
“Of course.  Dean, you were my best friend.  Then, you became so much more than that.”  You insisted.  Dean took a drink from the glass in his hand and set it down on the table next to him as he slid forward.
“Then why?  Just tell me the truth, Y/N.  I loved you, really loved you, and I thought you…I thought you felt the same way about me.   I mean, it’s like one day you just stopped and I still have no idea why.”
“I didn’t stop.  I got scared and stupid.”  You admitted.  “When I was lost all those years ago, you found me and you convinced me that everything would be okay.  You made me feel like there wasn’t anything in the world I couldn’t do as long as you were right there beside me.”
“I didn’t really just find you.”  The tiniest sliver of a smile returned to his face, but only for a moment.  “We found each other.  That’s all that matters - at least it was to me.”  He added, the smile disappearing along with his last words.
“It was for me too.” You admitted, letting your thoughts linger for a moment.
Dean took another drink and looked away.  “This isn’t making a whole lot of sense.”  He told you, rolling his eyes.  You stood up and turned away from him then, pressing the palm of your right hand with the thumb of your left.
“I could see the road ahead and the way you always sacrifice yourself.  It’s noble and heroic and makes it so easy to fall in love with you, but when it’s over…..”  You let your words fall away.
Even now, standing in the same room and knowing he was alive, you were still unable to think about the worst without feeling like you were suffocating.  You took a deep breath, running your teeth along your bottom lip.  Dean just watched you, thinking back to the night you walked out and seeing it in a different light.
“I was afraid that no matter how hard we tried we wouldn’t be able to find a way to stop what was coming – and I just couldn’t watch you die.” You finally found the words to continue.  “I could feel myself pulling away the closer we got to the end and wanting to cling so tightly to you at the same time.  I thought I was doing the right thing, that somehow if I didn’t know how it all turned out I could just trick myself into believing that you were safe and happy.”
“And when I tried to stop you from leaving, you said the one thing…”
“…that I knew would make it impossible to change my mind.”  You interrupted as you turned to face him once more, confirming he was right.
Dean let out a deep sigh, slowly lifting the glass to his lips again.  He let it sit there for a moment, closing his eyes as your words sank in. Finally he let the last of the liquid slide past his lips, swallowing his pride along with the whiskey.  You watched in silence as he set the glass down again.
“I wish you would have just told me how you felt.”  He practically whispered, shaking his head.  He had never gotten used to the idea of having someone care for him the way he cared for others.
“You were meant to save the world.  I’ve always believed that and I didn’t want to change you.  I just didn’t think I was strong enough to live in a world without you in it.  Besides, would it have made a difference?”  You asked, laughing a little.  Dean chuckled along with you.
“I don’t know.”  He admitted.  He chewed on his lower lip, his green eyes watching cautiously as you walked around the table and knelt down in front of him.  You reached out and took his hands in yours.
“I know it’s too late, Dean. I just needed you to know that whatever happens, I’m sorry I made you feel like I stopped loving you.  I couldn’t – not ever.”  You promised.
“What if it’s not too late?” He asked.  You could hear the hope in his voice mirroring the hope you felt in your heart.
“But, what about your girlfriend?”  You asked, glancing at the front door as though she was still standing there.  He laughed, which only confused you more.
“She’s not my girlfriend.” He replied.  “She is just an old friend of Sam’s.  He ran into her on a case a few days ago.  She came by looking for him and to drop off some books that he let her use for research.”
“So, are you saying you could forgive me?”  You pressed. Dean smiled, his green eyes staring lovingly at you.  He reached up and brushed back a strand of your hair as he nodded.
“Come here.”  He said, standing and pulling you up with him.  He wrapped his arms around you and hugged you tightly against him.
You hugged him back, your fingers barely tangled in the soft strands of hair.  You inhaled, enjoying the smell that was so uniquely Dean it made you feel like home.
“I can’t promise you that I’ll live forever.”  His words mumbled as he buried his face in your hair.  “But I will do everything I can to make sure I don’t leave you.”
“I can’t promise you that I won’t worry about you, but I realized that I don’t want you to be anyone different for me.  This is what you and Sam do.  It’s who you are and I will never walk out on you like that again.”  You told him.
Staying away from Dean had been the hardest thing you had ever tried to do.  As much as you didn’t want to pull yourself from Dean’s embrace, you leaned back so you could look him in the eye as you continued.
“No matter what happens, I want to spend every moment of this life with you.  I want to know that if the world turns against us, and one of us doesn’t make it home, that we have all our memories to hold onto.  I want to us to say good-bye knowing that we lived a life where we were happy and loved – no matter what, because we deserve that.”
“I still love you so much, Y/N.  I want to spend the rest of my life showing you that you mean the world to me…that is, if you think I won’t scare you away again by doing it.”  He added with a mischievous smirk.
“I dare you to try.” You teased, slipping back into a familiar rhythm with him.
“Oh yeah?”  He chuckled as you smiled up at him and nodded enthusiastically.  Dean leaned his forehead against yours, his smile lingering on his face.  “I dare you to kiss me.”  He said, returning the challenge.
And you did.

What Would You Wish For?
Summary:  A stranger gives the gift of one wish, but all magic comes with a price.
Word Count: 4798
Warnings:  little angst maybe, some fluff - none really
A/N:  This was written for @covered-byroses Myths and Magic Challenge.  My prompt was Three Wishes. Thank you for a really fun idea.  It ended up being lighter than I first imagined, but I hope you like it.
Thank you for reading and please feel free to let me know what you think :)
Tumblr media
“We are almost to the intersection with I95.”  You said from the back seat as the impala continued down the dirt road.  “After that, it looks like about 7 hours to the bunker.”
You heard Dean groan and you knew he was looking forward to being back in the bunker after several days in the dollar motel.   It seemed like since the brothers had found the bunker, those motels just weren’t as comfortable as they used to be.
“What’s that up there?” Sam muttered.  As the car got closer you could see that it was an older model pickup sitting on the side of the road with the hood up.  An man who appeared to be in his 70s was anxiously standing next to it with his hands on his sides.
“Maybe we should stop and help him, or give him a ride to town.”  You said sympathetically.
“Come on, Y/N.  We still have so far to go before we make it home.”  Dean argued.
“Dean!  He’s an old man.  We can’t just leave him out here.”  You argued. “Sam?”  You added, glancing to his younger brother for help.
“It may not take that long.” He added, hopefully.  Dean grumbled the word fine and slowed down the impala.
You watched as Dean took a look at the man’s truck.  You had always enjoyed watching him work on cars.  The concentration and care he showed made you adore him more than you secretly already did.  With a few adjustments, he was able to fix the truck without much time lost.
“There you go.  Should be good now, but I’d have somebody take a look once you get where you are going.  You may need to replace that part altogether.’  Dean said to him, shaking his hand when he offered it.
“You have done me a kind service today.  Allow me to repay you.”  The stranger said, holding out a large gold coin to you.
“You don’t have to pay us anything.  It was nothing.”  You told him, but he held it out further.
“This is not a monetary payment.”  He started to explain.  “It is a wish coin.  I am offering a single wish to each of you.”
“A wish coin?”  Sam asked, unsure if he heard him correctly. The stranger nodded.
“Please take it.”  He begged, offering it to Sam and Dean when you didn’t move.  “Just hold it tightly and say your wish and it will come.  There are very few exceptions.”
“You’re telling me that if I hold this coin in my hand and say I wish, then whatever follows will just magically appear?”  Dean asked, taking the coin from him and turning it suspiciously over in his hand.
“Yes, that is exactly what I’m saying.  But be careful what you wish for Dean.  It may not turn out exactly the way you think, and you will have to deal with the consequences of that wish.”  The old man told him, raising a finger for emphasis.
“I think the cheese has slid a little far off your cracker man.”
“Dean!!”  Sam shouted.
“What?  This is ridiculous, even for us.”  He said, turning to face Sam impatiently.
“You believe in all manner of supernatural beings, but you refuse to believe that I could grant you a small token of appreciation?”  He challenged.
“Yes.”  Dean insisted.  You glanced between them, the old man grinning slightly at his certainty.
“May I ask why?”
“Because….I’ve spent my whole life scraping by, fighting for everything we had – and everything we didn’t. Now - you expect me to believe that it is as simple as saying….”
“Dean…don’t!”  Sam shouted, but it was too late.
“I wish for 10 million dollars.”  The words flew past Dean’s lips before either of you could stop him.
“Well,” the stranger began, a sly grin on his face.  “If you won’t take my word for it, just open the trunk of your car.”
At the mention of his precious baby, Dean’s eyes narrowed and he glared at him.  Sam glanced to you, but you only shrugged and watched as he carefully made his way to the impala.  When he popped open the truck, he found several bags laying on top of the false bottom.  He unzipped the first one and saw that it was full of money.
Dean finally broke his stare when he heard you gasp.  His face lit up and the stranger was momentarily forgotten as the three of you opened the remaining bags to find more strapped cash.  Although you didn’t count it, there was no reason to believe it was anything other than 10 million dollars.
“How did you…?”  You began, but stopped when you turned around to an empty street.
“Where did he go?” Sam asked, but there was no trace of him ever being there.  Dean glanced down at the coin still sitting in the palm of his hand and then back up at the two of you.
“We’re rich.  We really are rich!”  He exclaimed, laughing in disbelief.
“Dean, where did this even come from?  I mean, we can’t just take this money like that.  I’m telling you, something terrible is going to come out of all this wish nonsense.”
“Oh yes, we can.  Is it selfish? maybe.  Will it come back to bite me tomorrow?  Probably.  But just for one night, I want to know what it’s like.”
“What what’s like?”  You couldn’t help but ask.  Dean had never really struck you as someone fixated on money.
“To not have to worry about whether or not the credit card will work, or if we will have enough for dinner and a motel room, or if the guys I’m playing pool against are too stupid to realize we are scamming them for gas money, or whether I’m going to get caught stealing peanut butter and sent back to a boys home.”  He answered you.
“I guess I never really thought about it like that.”  Sam said, looking down.
“That was the point, Sammy. You weren’t supposed to worry about stuff like that.”  Dean said, his voice softer.  “I don’t regret any of it.  I did what I had to, and I’d do it again.”  He added, patting Sam’s face gently with his hand to reassure him.
“Okay.”  You reluctantly agreed.  You hadn’t been with them when they were children, but you had heard stories. You knew enough to be able to picture John leaving them alone for days to fend for themselves.
“Look, if I had known it wasn’t a crock, I would have wished for something different - Making the monsters of the world go away or world peace or something meaningful.”  Dean said.  “But I can’t change that.”
“It’s not what you wished for that worries me.”  You admitted. “It’s more about the ‘consequences’ he mentioned.”
“I know.”  Dean said, flipping the coin over a couple of times and then handing it to Sam.  “Here, take this thing.  Let’s just get going.  We can figure all of this out later.”
Tumblr media
Dean paused when he finally got the interstate until you both raised an eyebrow at him.  “What’s wrong?”  You asked, worried.
“What if we stopped in that big city for tonight?”  He asked, turning in the seat so he could face you both.
“I thought you were in a hurry to get back to the bunker.”  Sam told him. Dean shrugged.
“I was, but come on man. We could use a vacation.  When was the last time we did anything that wasn’t about hunting and was just fun?”
“It has been a while.” Sam admitted.
“Okay, let’s do it.” You encouraged.
“That’s my girl.” Dean exclaimed, making your heart skip a beat as he put his arm around your shoulders and hugged you against him. Sam just laughed.
Dean drove into the city and the three of you spent the evening doing whatever you all felt like doing. At the end of the evening, Dean spotted a high class hotel and you could almost see the light bulb flash in his eyes.
“No way are we staying in another ratty motel tonight.”  He said, pulling into the driveway.
Dean pulled a handful of cash from the bags, setting on the counter in defiance when the front desk clerk pompously told him the price of the penthouse suite he requested.  It was hard not to laugh when the clerk almost choked on his own words while Dean causally asked, “Does that about cover it?”
After that, it was all “yes sir, let me help you with your things sir”.  Although you could tell that Sam felt awkward about all of the extra attention, he kept quiet and just let Dean enjoy it.
It had three bedrooms, two oversized luxury bathrooms, heated floors, waterfall shower, swimming pool, game room, private bar, floor to ceiling windows with the most beautiful view of the city below.  There were marble floors, private elevator, two living areas.
You spent extra time in the bathroom, knowing that for once it was all your own.  Afterwards, you slipped on the cozy soft bathrobe and slippers, stepping out into the bedroom and jumping up onto the feather bed.  At first it was fun, but after a while it was too quiet and you couldn’t relax enough to feel sleepy.
You wandered around the penthouse suite, looking out at the city and wondering about the people living in the houses below.  You heard a car horn and tires squeal below, grabbing your attention.  You thought you saw a shadow crossing the road below, but when you looked again it had disappeared into the night and traffic had resumed.  You told yourself that you would never get used to being in a large city, thankful no one appeared to have been hurt.   You turned away from the window and could see the light coming from Dean’s bedroom, the door slightly ajar.
You snickered under your breath to see the fearless hunter chilling on the king size bed in his bathrobe, a large pizza and beer sitting next to him.
“All that money, and you are still eating pizza and beer.”  You teased.  Dean just shrugged, but you could see the color come to his cheeks briefly.
“24 hour room service.” He replied.  “You want something?  They have everything you could possibly think of.”  He told you, picking up the leather bound menu and holding it out toward you.
“No thanks.”  You replied, stepping into the room and stealing a piece of pizza from the box.  Dean laughed and moved the box so you could climb onto the bed next to him. “Where’s Sam?”
“Oh, he went to his room. He is determined to find something about that coin.”  Dean replied. “Hey, check this out…”  He exclaimed, pushing a button on the remote to make a huge flat screen TV lower itself from the ceiling.  You couldn’t help but get a kick out of seeing him act like a little kid at Christmas.
He flipped through the channels, raving about how many there were to choose from.  “Wait…”  You told him. “Go back a couple.”
Dean did as you asked, stopping on The Princess Bride, just as they were about to enter the home of Mad Max.
“I love this movie.” You said, laughing at Max and his wife argue over what Wesley had said.
“So do I.”  Dean admitted, setting the remote aside and the two of you watched the rest of the movie, occasionally quoting the lines together.
You were so engrossed in the scenes on the TV, that you didn’t notice that Dean had stopped watching the screen and started watching you until it was almost over. “What?”  You asked, blushing as soon as you caught him.
“You know, you really are beautiful.”  Dean said, watching you intensely.
You looked at him, shocked to hear those words and unable to look away from his gaze.  For a moment, you wondered if it the wish coin could hear wishes inside your head, but then you remembered that you had yet to hold the coin in your hand.  No, this couldn’t be the thoughts you constantly had running through your mind.
Dean leaned forward and kissed you.  The instant his lips touched yours, all of your thoughts went silent.  You could hear the end of the movie and the words written about the greatest kiss of all time as you leaned into his kiss and returned it eagerly.
“Hey Dean…”  Sam said as he entered Dean’s room and the two of you flew apart like shrapnel.  “Y/N, good, you’re here too.”  He added, not noticing.
“Yeah, Dean was just showing off the big screen tv.”  You lied, glancing over at Dean.
“Did you find something about the coin?”  Dean asked.
“Not exactly, but I think there is something weird going on not far from here.”  He began.  “Now where did I see that?”  he muttered, flipping through the book he was carrying in his hands.
Dean leaned close to your ear while Sam was searching for the page and whispered, “next time we will have to remember to close and lock the door.”
You simply nodded, biting down on your lip to try and keep calm.  Your body still felt warm where he had touched you and you felt a tingle when he said ‘next time’, excited at the idea that he wanted to do that again.
“Here it is.”  Sam said, flipping the page and laying the book down on the end of the bed so you could both see it.
“Says there is a myth about a creature that lures small children from their homes.”  You read out loud.  “says she is usually seen along the Interstate 95 corridor during the month of September.”
“Right.  And it’s September, and that is the I95 running right outside.”  Sam pointed out.
“Okay, but that also runs over 1100 miles either way, Sam.  What makes you think that this myth is real and that she is near here?”  Dean asked.
“Because, I just heard on the news that there are 3 kids missing in Rawlee all within the last 24 hours.”  He replied.
“That sounds familiar.” You said, thinking back to the map you had been studying in the car.  “Wait, that’s only about 100 miles further north.”
“Exactly.”
“We’ve certainly looked into cases with less to go on.”  Dean sighed, looking around the room.  “Guess this vacation will have to wait.”
Tumblr media
The three of you packed up and headed down the road to start in Rawlee.  By the time you arrived and got settled, it was early morning and you split up to interview the families and the police.  Sam was able to determine that you were hunting a Splinterwaif that would have to keep the children alive for several days before killing them and feeding on their spirits.  That meant that the three of you had almost a week to find them.
Although it was good news that no more kids went missing, it also didn’t give any of you much to go on. It had been a long week, with little sleep, and lots of ideas that didn’t pan out.
“We’ve been at it for days, man.  We officially have less than 2 hours to find those kids and we are still nowhere close to figuring this out.  There has to be something we can do.”  Dean said, slamming the book closed.
“Well there is one thing…” Sam said, reaching in his pocket and pulling out the coin.
“I thought you didn’t want to use any more wishes.”
“I don’t, but I don’t see any other way, and I can’t just let this happen.  Besides, maybe this is only a gift.  I mean, we have had that money for a week and nothing has happened.” He said, sounding more like he was trying to convince himself.
“Let’s do it.”  Dean encouraged.  You thought about for a second and then nodded in agreement.
“I wish we could save those kids before the time is up.”  Sam said, squeezing the coin tightly in the palm of his hand.
Just like it had done the first time, the wish came true immediately.  The three of you were standing in front of the impala outside of a cellar door several hours away.  Dean broke the lock on the doors and pulled one side open so the three of you could climb down to the bottom.
You immediately saw the three kids and breathed a sigh of relief when they began crying for help. Even though the legend said she would keep them for a week to prepare before killing them, you were terrified that you would be too late.
“Shh…”  You warned the children.  “It’s going to be ok.  We are going to get you out of here and back home.”
You began working on the lock the keep them caged when the door opened again and a woman descended.
“it’s you….”  She hissed when she saw the three of you in the cellar.  “I thought I got rid of you when I left you back at that motel.”
“Motel?”  Sam asked, his brow scrunched.
“Yeah.  Everyone knows to stay clear when you see that car of yours. It startled me so much I froze. Good thing too, I would have been hit by a truck if I had kept walking.  Guess I should thank you for that.”  She added, sounding anything but grateful.
“So you get a few days and this is what you do with it?  Take a bunch of little kids?”  Dean growled. She glared at him.
“Well, a girl’s gotta eat.” She replied, arrogantly.
Dean lunged forward, swinging the angel blade in his hand as he did.  “Damn it, I can’t get a shot.”  Sam mumbled, not wanting to hit Dean accidentally with the way the two of them were dancing around each other.
“Keep trying.”  You yelled, working the lock on their cage loose. When it finally broke, Sam insisted that you take the kids outside and rushed forward to help Dean fight her.
You led the children out of the cellar and into the impala, giving them water and snacks from the cooler in the back seat.  Sam and Dean rushed out of the cellar a few moments later and jumped into the impala where you were waiting with the kids.
The children, although a little shaken, were fine.  You waited with them at the local sheriff’s office until their parents arrived to pick them up and then you returned to the motel room with Sam and Dean.
“We are only a few hours from the bunker.  Let’s just go home.”  Dean was saying when you walked in the door.
“Are you okay?”  You asked immediately, noticing the way he was shielding his eyes from the light and holding his head.
“It’s just a headache. I’ve had worse.”  He answered, but one glance at Sam’s face told you it was more than he was letting on.
“He got thrown across that cellar and hit the wall pretty hard earlier.”  Sam explained.
“Come on, Sam.  Stop worrying.”  Dean begged.  “I just want to go home to my own bed and if it isn’t gone in the morning I’ll call Cas to come heal me.  Okay?”
“Fine.”  Sam agreed reluctantly.
Tumblr media
Sam drove the impala back to the bunker while Dean stretched out in the back seat, his arm covering his face.  You kept him talking to be sure he stayed awake in case of a concussion.  He was coherent and you could see Sam start to relax, convincing himself that Dean was right about it just being a headache.
When you pulled into the garage, however, Dean was unsteady getting out of the car and before either of you could ask him if he was alright, he collapsed.  Sam took him inside to his room and you immediately called Castiel.
You watched nervously beside Sam as Cas studied Dean with his angelic powers.  Finally he took his hand away and shook his head, letting out a deep sigh.
“I don’t believe he is suffering from the fight with the Splinterwaif.”  Cas began. “There is no physical damage for me to heal.  This feels more……magical.”
“Magical?”  Sam asked him in disbelief.  “How is that even possible?  We haven’t been anywhere near a witch for months.  Not since we stopped that coven in Washington.”
“I don’t know, Sam.  I just can’t find anything that I can fix in his head.”  Cas admitted.
“Well, if it’s magical, then we call Rowena.  She can fix him.”  You told him, reaching out to squeeze his hand for reassurance.
“I’ll find her.” Cas volunteered, happy to be able to do something and he disappeared.
“Do you think it has anything to do with that coin?”  You couldn’t stop yourself from asking.  Sam shrugged.
“I don’t know.  I never could find anything out about it. Maybe Rowena will know something.” He answered.
It didn’t take long for Cas to return with Rowena.  “Samuel, you could just pick up the phone.  You know I don’t like to be summoned here like this.”  She complained, straightening her dress and pushing her hair back from her face.
“Well, it was no picnic for me either.”  Cas replied sarcastically before turning to face Sam again.  “I’m going to talk to a few angels in Heaven and see if I can find out anything that might be helpful.”
“Look, I’m sorry but we are desperate.”  Sam began as soon as Cas disappeared.  “Dean collapsed and Cas says it has to be something magic keeping him from waking up.”
“Well, if the angel says it is magical it probably is, but without knowing what happened I don’t know how much help I can be.”  She replied.
“What about this thing? Do you know anything about it?” Sam asked, pulling the coin from his pocket and holding it up where she could see it.  Rowena gasped.
“What is….that’s a leprechaun’s wish coin.  Where did you get that?”  She asked, her voice both wary and curious.
“Well, that explains the disappearing act.”  You mumbled.
“That is dangerous magic you are playing with.  You best be careful.”  Rowena warned.
“It’s a little late for that, but thanks.”  Sam replied, rolling his eyes.  “I just don’t understand why it happened to him.  I’m the one that made the wish.”
“Can you fix Dean – wake him up?”  You pleaded. Rowena started to respond, but stopped herself.  She went to pick up the book of the damned that Sam had laid out for her and started flipping through the pages frantically.
“I can try dearie, but I don’t think so.”  She mumbled.
You pushed away the tears of frustration pooling in your eyes.  In all the years you had known them, in all the fights they had been backed against the wall, and now the man you loved would be beaten by what – your good heart?  It was more than you could take.  You glared at the coin in Sam’s outstretched hand, hating it and yourself for feeling sorry for the man standing on the side of the road that day.
You angrily yanked the coin from Sam’s hand.  “I wish we had never seen that stupid man in the first place.”  You yelled as you reared back and threw the coin across the room in frustration.
The coin hit the wall with a pang and a shock wave shot out from it, the current throwing all of you several feet as it ran through the room.  You rubbed your head as you struggled to stand up.
“Are you okay?”  You asked Sam, who squeezed his eyes shut tightly and groaned as he pulled himself back to his feet.
“I think so.”  He replied.  He glanced to his left and then back to you, concerned.  “Where’s Rowena?”
The two of you scanned the room, but there was no sign of her.  Sam pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and dialed her number as you moved to the corner of the room to see if you could spot the coin.
“Rowena, where are you?” You heard him exclaim when he picked up.
“Why Samuel…good to hear from you too.  I don’t really have time for a chat though.  I’m in the middle of some very intensive, shall we say physical therapy?” She replied and Sam made a disgusted face at the implication.  “Gotta go. Talk to you later.”  She added cheerily before hanging up the phone.
“She acted like she didn’t know anything about today.”  Sam answered. “Do you think…?”  He stuttered, pointing to the wall where the coin had landed.
You were stunned, letting his question sink in.  It would explain why the coin was gone.  Suddenly the two of you locked eyes as the same thought occurred both of you.
“Dean.”  You said simultaneously, turning and racing down the hall to the bedroom.
You burst in the door and saw him sitting against the headboard with the laptop on his legs. You leaped onto the bed, throwing your arms around him and Sam released the breath he had been holding for what felt like hours.
“Dean!  You’re ok!”
“Well, yeah I’m ok. Except that the two of you about gave me a heart attack.  What’s going on?”  He asked, his eyes flickering worriedly between you and his brother.
“My wish backfired, and I didn’t know if we were ever going to be able to wake you up, but then Rowena…” Sam started explaining, but Dean cut him off.
“Rowena?  Your wish?  What the hell are you talking about?”  He asked.  You pulled back from him to look him in the eyes, glancing over your shoulder to Sam who stood frozen in the doorway.
“You don’t remember any of it?”  You asked.
“All I know is that we got home from hunting a vamp nest in Mississippi last night and I spent most of the morning watching this trilogy that Charlie said was ‘a must watch’”  He explained, lovingly mimicking her voice. “I thought you two were just going on a supply run to town since we were out of stuff in the kitchen, but by the look on your face, I think I’m missing a lot.”
You looked at Sam and he shrugged.  He walked into the room and the two of you relayed the things that had happened over the last few days to Dean.  He listened intently, smiling a bit at the idea of a penthouse suite.
“I wonder why the two of you remember and me and Rowena have no memories of it at all.”  He mused out loud.
“I don’t know.  I’m just glad it’s over.”  Sam said, standing up and heading out of the room.  You stood up to follow, but Dean reached out and grabbed your wrist to stop you.
“Why do I get the feeling there is something else?”  He asked you. You turned away, trying to hide the blush on your face.  “tell me.” He insisted.
“Nothing.”  You lied, standing up once more and walked to the door.
It stung that he didn’t remember what had happened that night in the suite, but if giving that up was what you had to do to make sure he was safe then you would be grateful that you got to keep that memory.
“Y/N?”  Dean asked.  You paused, turning to see him set the laptop down on the bed next to him and stand up to move toward you until he was standing only inches away.
“What is it?”  You asked, concerned that maybe the three of you had been too hasty to think it was over.
Dean smiled then, reaching up and taking your face gently in his hands, and he leaned down to kiss you. It shocked you, and for a moment you froze.  Finally, you began to relax and kiss him back, your hands running along his sides and up around his back.
“Was that it?”  He whispered when he pulled back.
“Hm-mm”  You nodded, still feeling a little dizzy.  You slowly opened your eyes to find him watching you and you blushed again.  “Did you remember?”
“No”  he smirked.  “I’d been wanting to do that for a while though, and the way you hugged me, and the way you blushed when I asked.  I just took a chance and hoped I was right.”
“It was the first night, in the penthouse.”  You admitted. He leaned down and kissed you again, softer this time.
“Would you want to spend the night refreshing my memory?”  He whispered against your lips.
You smiled, pulling him closer and kissing him deeper.  With one hand, you reached out and pushed his bedroom door closed, locking it in response.
