The Overworked Trauma of the Eccentric Intellect Chapter 1
I’m experimenting with a new ship of my own concoction. I got into a bit of a Jacq (Scarlet and Violet) mood and wanted to do a shipfic with him. Prior to Volo getting introduced alongside him in Masters EX, I ended up deciding to go with Saguaro. I felt it could work so I went with it.
I may still do something with Jacq and Volo, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoy the forst chapter of this lil fic.
Synopsis: Can you make sure Jacq eats? He’s been so caught up with work that I think he’s skipped a few meals. Oh, and I’m pretty sure he hasn’t slept in a few days.
It sounded like a simple enough request. Though Sarguao doesn’t exactly understand why he specifically should be tasked with such a request. But easy or simple aren’t exactly the words to describe the situation as Jacq’s motives come to light. And a spiraling depression needs immediate attention.

Can you make sure Jacq eats? He’s been so caught up with work that I think he’s skipped a few meals. Oh, and I’m pretty sure he hasn’t slept in a few days.
It sounded like a simple enough request. If not a bit odd. Clavell wasn’t too invested in the teachers outside of the basics. However, given that Jacq had developed a bond and partnership with the esteemed director, it wasn’t too surprising when Clavell worried about him.
And he had every right to. Though not something the average person would pick up, in hindsight, Saguaro realized that he hasn’t seen Jacq much in the break room or the cafeteria.
So if the director was coming to him to combat that, Sarguaro could understand that. From what Saguaro was told, Jacq ignored Miriam’s concerns, stating he was alright and would grab something to eat later. He told Dendra he has to keep his mind working if he was ever going to get his project done. He even told Hassel that ‘an artist’s work, or I guess I should say biology teacher’s duty, needs to be perfect’.
Clavell must have been desperate if he was asking for Saguaro’s help. His and Jacq’s department were so dar apart that Saguaro wondered why the director didn’t ask Raifort first.
It sounded simple enough. It should have been simple enough. But when he got to Jacq’s office, he wasn’t sure if “simple” was the right word. Messy and chaotic fit the scene he was greeted by.
Papers scattered across the floor along with several empty cups of, presumably, coffee. Jacq’s Arcanine was curled up and napping next to Jacq while his Farigiraf poked her head in through the nearby window. An Alolan Meowth napped on his table while Jacq picked away at a Pokédex. Jacq was muttering to himself, some kind of technical jargon that Saguaro didn’t particularly care to understand.
Talking Jacq out of his invested was going to be interesting. If not a bit annoying. Clearing his throat, Saguaro entered the room.
“Not very tidy today, are you?”
Chuckling, Jacq took his glasses off and set them on the desk. “A little mess can’t hurt anyone.”
Approaching Jacq’s desk, Saguaro leaned against it. “But skipping out on meals and sleep can.”
Huffing, Jacq leaned forward, folding his arms in the process. “Not you too.”
“Yes, me too.” Saguaro crossed his arms. “You more than anyone should know that your body has needs.”
“And I will… once I get these projects done.”
Grabbing a document, Jacq proceeded to jot some notes down. He then proceeded to pet the Meowth’s head before moving onto the next document. Looking at Jacq’s paperwork, Saguaro changed his tactic.
“What are you working on?”
“Miss Briar wanted to see if I could add a new feature to the Pokédex. She wanted some kind of lore application for the Blueberry Academy students. Specifically on Paradox Pokémon and regional variants for educational purposes. Salvatore wants some insight on this little guy.” Jacq scratched behind the Meowth’s ear. “Apparently he hasn’t been eating much lately despite poving what Salvatore had been giving up until now.” Jacq grabbed a few documents. “Director Clavell needs the results of the Biology midterm by the end of the week and I’m looking into the Herba Mystica sample that Arven brought me.”
“Sounds stressful.”
“Maybe a little, but it’s keeping me busy. Which isn’t that bad, am I right?” Jacq shrugged as the Meowth woke up and stretched out. “Besides, it’ll be worth it when all is said and done.”
“It may be worth it, but I don’t think they want you to overwork yourself in the process.”
“But I need to get it all done.” Jacq let out a deep yawn, rubbing his eyes before grabbing the Pokédex he was working on. “I promised I’d get it done and I can’t let them down.”
“You won’t let anyone down if you take a break.”
Jacq slid his glasses back on. “You don’t know that.”
“Yes I do. None of them would want you to lose your sanity over this. Or your health.”
“I’m fine.”
“You probably can’t even stand up without falling over.”
“I can. Watch me.”
Accepting the challenge, Jacq quickly stood up. Maintaining his balance, he turned to fully face Saguaro with a boastful smirked. But before he could boast about his small win, Jacq’s vision began to blur. Fuzzy particles clouded his line of sight. His ankle rolled, causing Jacq to fall over. Saguaro acted fast, he grabbed Jacq and helped him stand.
“See.”
“I tripped.”
Saguaro rolled his eyes. If Jacq was going to be difficult, he would meet it with equal amounts of stubbornness. The back of Jaq’s coat was grabbed as he was tossed over Saguaro’s shoulder.
“And my hand slipped.”
Jacq’s face turned red as Saguaro picked up the Meowth and vacated the room. “Saguaro!? Put me down!”
“No.”
The first place Saguaro stopped was Salvatore's office, plopping the Meowth in his bed. “Try more seafood oriented food. And bitter berries since they can’t really taste sweet berries.”
Not waiting for a response, Saguaro left Salvatore’s office. Instead, he hauled Jacq over to his dorm room. All the while, Jacq weakly begged for Saguaro to put him down.
He would only get his wish once they got to the room. Once there, Saguaro set Jacq on the bed, removing Jacq’s glasses in the process. But instead of lying down, Jacq sat on the side of the bed. Despite his exhaustion, he wasn’t ready to give up.
Saguaro set the glasses on the counter as he started to look around the kitchen. “Can you give yourself, at least one hour to nap? After that, you’re going to eat, then, will you be allowed to get back to work.”
Jacq continued to sit there, not responding to the request. Not knowing if that was his way of considering it or silently accepting it, Saguaro continued to look around the kitchen. Grabbing a pot and a few ingredients, he decided to make soup. It wouldn’t take long to make and wouldn’t be too hefty on Jacq’s stomach.
“It’s my fault, isn’t it?”
“What is?” A stagnate pause greeted him as Saguaro started chopping some veggies. “What do you think is your fault?”
“That Sada died.”
A quick, firm chop cut through a leek. Shoulders stiffened as Saguaro’s hands landed on the counter. Light eyes fell on Jacq, who refused to move eye contact from the floor.
“Where is this coming from?” More silence. “Jacq?”
“I’m noticing Briar taking an… unhealthy interest in Aera Zero.” Jacq huffed. “It brings back memories. Regrets. Things I should have changed.” He shuttered as he shook his head. “Knowing what happened with Sada, while standing in front of her son makes me feel evil. I could have… should have, said something back then.
Saguaro moved around the counter and sat next to Jacq. His hand gently landed on Jacq’s back. Jacq quietly melted into it. Almost as though he needed physical contact.
“It’s just… every time I look at Arven, I get this gut wrenching feeling in my stomach.” Leaning forward, Jacq crossed his arms over his lap. “He shouldn’t be taught by the man who contributed to her passing.”
“It’s not your fault.” Saguaro denounced. “Arven’s a good kid. Needs a little more practice in the kitchen, but a good kid.” His hand gently motioned around Jacq’s back. “But if he blames anyone, it’s not you.”
“But I-”
“Am a wonderful teacher that anyone would be lucky to have. Excitable and a little air headed, who unconsciously overworks himself, but an honest man.”
Jacq sat up, finally turning to face Saguaro with exhausted distress. “But I’m not. I was part of the problem. I wanted to go on the expedition too. So I should have been the one to say something when Clavell didn’t. Why shouldn’t he mad at me?”
“First of all, Arven’s just a kid. You’re expecting a lot from a kid who’s still got a few years in school. Will he feel resentful for his mother’s decisions? Of course. Will he blame one of the only mentors and parental figures he has because of it? No.” Saguaro’s hand wrapped around Jacq’s shoulders. “Secondly, you have noting to feel guilty over. Yes, you were on the expedition, but if anyone pushed Sada to that point, it would have been her. I don’t think any of us wanted this to happen, but no one could have predicted this. Not even Sada. And thirdly, Sada and Briar are grown women. You could have done everything in your power to stop Sada, and she still could have gone down the same path. Same with Briar presently.”
Holding back tears, Jacq glared at Saguaro, trying to hold back the urge to yell at Saguaro. Knowing he was just trying to help and didn’t deserve to be berated, Jacq knew better. At the same time, he couldn’t bring himself to accept that he was innocent in all of this.
“It can’t be that simple. Someone has to be held accountable and-”
A kiss prevented Jacq from finishing his thought, silencing him. A soft, stunned breath escaped his nostrils as silver eyes widened. When Saguaro pulled back, he took advantage of Jacq’s shock and gently pushed Jacq back, lying him down. With a now red face, jacq glared at Saguaro with confused disbelief.
“You’re not in a clear mental state. If you really want to continue this self inflicted blame, we can afterwards.”
~
“I never would have thought you had a sweet tooth.”
Four hours later and Jacq finally woke up from his nap. When he did, he was greeted by the scent of coffee. A sweet aroma was in the air as he managed to get himself out of bed with an unceremonious thud. Saguaro had opted out of his soup plan in favor of scones. A preferable alternative to go with the coffee.
“You’re not the only one.” Saguaro chuckled. “What can I say, there’s a softie underneath this cool exterior. Besides, Juliana and Arven got me some of that Sweet Herba Mystica as a little gift and I want to put it to good use.”
“Oh…” Jacq wearily smirked, “that was really nice of them.”
“It really was.”
An awkward silence fell as Jacq’s frame deflated. His glasses fogged up as he took a sip of coffee. When he set it down, Jacq's elbows rested on the table as fingers intertwined in front of Jacq’s face.
“Sada’s death is hitting you deep, isn’t it? And that’s why you’ve been over working yourself, right?”
“…Yeah.”
“And you haven’t told the Director, if I had to guess. Because you know he’d have you take time off if you did.” Jacq nodded. “And you thought you could bury it under work, thinking that no one would suspect anything?” Jacq nodded again causing Saguaro to roll his eyes. “You know, for someone so smart, you are so dumb sometimes.”
Jacq shrugged his shoulders. “It worked.”
“For how long? A week? And only because our esteemed director had an undercover counseling gig with a pompadour and a dream.” Saguaro’s hand reached across the table, grabbing Jacq’s wrist. “You need to take it easy. You can’t go on like this.”
Jacq’s face fell as he yanked his wrist away. “You’re stubborn, you know that?”
Saguaro chuckled. “That’s probably why he asked me to step in. Fight fire with fire. Or, well, stubbornness with stubbornness. Though, what you really need is a few days off and probably some therapy.”
Reaching out a hand, Saguaro offered comfort, hoping Jacq would accept the offer. Jacq eye the hand, cautiously and curiously. Staring at the hand, he was tempted to take it. To resign himself in defeat and take care of himself. Hovering his hand over Saguaro’s for a moment, Jacq quickly pulled it back.
“I’ll consider it, but I need to know one thing first. Why did you kiss me?”
Withdrawing his hand, Saguari frowned. He wasn't shocked by the qurestion, but he had hoped to avoid it for a little longer.
“First, I’d like to apologize for that. I wasn’t thinking all that clearly when I crossed that boundary. So for that, I am sorry.” Leaning forward, Saguaro proceeded. “In that moment, it felt like it was the only way to get you to stop talking and think for a minute.”
“I… I guess that worked…” He winced slightly as his shoulders shrugged. “It got my attention that’s for sure.” Holding his cup, his thumb gently traced over the rim. “It wasn’t the worst way I’ve been told to shut up. But I would have liked a little heads up. You know, so I’m a little more prepared.” Jacq awkwardly chuckled. Shrugging, he circled back to Saguaro’s request. “I think I’ll take some time off. I just need to let Clavell know.”
A wave of relief hit Saguaro. While relieved that Jacq was more forgiving towards his impulse reaction, he was more relieved that Jacq was going to take some time off to process everything and hopefully relax. Half expecting more of a fight, Saguaro was relieved that there wasn’t.
“I just need a day or two to catch up on sleep and a few meals and I’ll be good to go.” Jacq nodded. “That should be enough time to get this out of my system.” Jacq stood up. “Yeah, that’ll be perfect. Thank-”
Before he could finish he thought, Jacq’s wrist was grabbed and a resistant tug pull him back. One hand clamped on Jacq’s shoulder as another held the side of his face. Saguaro, who now towered over Jacq, for the first time Jacq had ever experienced, appeared unsettled.
“You need more than two days. You’re not okay.”
Jacq tensed. “But I’d be taking time off. That what you want, isn’t it?”
“I want you to step away and get help.” Both hands now held the sides of Jacq’s face. “Two days might be enough to recover physically. Mentally, not so much.”
Air escaped Jacq’s nostrils with melancholy and annoyance.
“Why do you care so much?”
“Because we’re worried about you. You’re running yourself so ragged that you could end up hospitalized or worse.” Saguaro gently ran his fingers through Jacq’s hair. “And knowing what I do now, I couldn’t live with myself if I let you go on like this.”
Glasses got hazy as Jacq tried to find the words to retaliate. He wanted to yell, shout how he didn’t need help. Yet, the words would not formulate.
Instead, his eyes started to water as his sight went dark. Jacq’s legs gave out, causing him to collapse. Falling into arms that picked him up with ease. The sound if Jacq’s name being called out muffled on before unconsciousness took over.

Crowning Sanctuary Chapter 2
Tumblr media
“Not going to happen.” Raihan denied. “I’m not moving Leon halfway across the region for answers. His family is here. His treatment is here. His life is here.”
“So is Rose.”
A callused hand ran through Leon’s hair, combing through it looking for something. A soft yelp escaped Leon as Peony pinched something and yanked it out of his hair. A minuscule, spherical chip fit between two fingers as Peony showed it to Raihan. A purple light periodically flashed, which made it much easier to hide.
“What is that?”
It was more of an observational response than a question. He knew it was something sinister, even if it didn’t feel necessary. Though Raihan wasn’t surprised that someone would try to tag Leon, he wasn’t expecting it either.
“You said you wanted answers,” Peony reminded, “and Fuzzy needs somewhere he can feel safe.” He broke the tracker with his fingers. “I can give them to you, but not here. Not when he’s trying to plant a tracker on Fluffy and probably wired the whole room.”
“I highly doubt that.” The therapist interjected, slightly ruffled by the sudden revelation. “Confidentiality is important in this situation.”
“That it is, ma'am, but that doesn’t mean that my brother cares.”
The room hit a tense moment of silence as Peony’s attention fell on Leon. At this point, Leon had shuffled around to face Peony. Raihan still held him tight as he rested his head on top of Leon’s. Vibrating golden eyes watched Peony with a dower frown.
“I know I don’t have a right to ask you this after what my brother did,” Peony noted, “but I need you to trust me. As a former champion and Rose’s brother, I feel we are connected. And as a father, I feel horrible that Rose took advantage of you.”
Taking a step towards Leon caused Raihan to flinch and tighten his hold on Leon as he took a step back. Peony ignored the reaction, keeping his attention on his successor. Extending a hand to Leon, Peony gave him a soft smile.
“May I open my home to you and help you heal?” Peony offered.
Leon focused on Peony’s hand. It sounded like a nice offer. Genuine and honest. Leon’s and stretched out and was about to grab it, but withdrawing his hand.
“Can Raihan come?”
“Of course.” Peony agreed. “I don’t wish to isolate you. Just give you a place to rest your head without feeling like Rose is around every corner. So if you want Tiny to come with you, he’s more than welcomed to.”
“And my therapist?” Peony nodded. ”Then I’ll go. Provided, Raihan agrees.” Leon turned his attention to Raihan. “Raihan?”
Raihan glared at Peony, a spark of aggression and concern in his eye. He wanted whatever Peony was willing to provide, but he didn’t want to move Leon. He didn’t want to leave Leon with Peony only for Peony to take advantage of Leon like Rose tried to.
However, if Leon was willing to trust Peony, Raihan wouldn’t belittle that. And if Raihan was there with Leon, he could make sure nothing sinister happened. Releasing Leon from his death grip, Raihan’s hands landed on his shoulders.
“While I think he can be helpful, my trust in him is shaky.” Raihan admitted. “No offense Peony.” The man in question nonchalantly shrugged. “However, if he genuinely wants to help, it would be foolish to reject his offer. And if you’re willing to trust him, I’ll try to as well.”
Raihan held Leon’s face, lightly brushing purple bangs aside. Leon let out a sigh as his head tilted slightly, peacefully smiling. He started humming as Raihan’s hand gently massaged his temple.
“If you so much as startle him, I won’t hesitate to retaliate.” Raihan promised, glaring at Peony.
“No need to worry. Our sweet prince will be safe.”
~
Up until now, the only perk of losing a hoodie to his partner was how cute Leon looked in a hoodie that was two sizes too big. Now, it was the perfect protection for Freezington’s chilling weather. They packed a few days worth of clothes and notified Leon’s family, Sonia, and any potential Hammerlocke challengers that they’d be gone for an undetermined amount of time. As for Leon’s therapist, she expected to get there in the next day or two. And with a vacant, rentable cabin a few doors down, she wouldn’t be too far.
“The guest bedroom is upstairs on the left.” Peony stated. “Feel free to get settled, and if you see a loveably rambunctious teen holed up in her room, that’s my daughter, Peonia.”
Leon chuckled. “She sounds lovely.”
Nodding, Peony flashed a wide, proud smile. “She’s the sweetest little flower. Now if you don't mind, I need to have a word with Tiny.”
Leon looked at Raihan a little nervous. His suitcase sat beside him as his shoulders slumped. Raihan approached him, knowing Leon needed reassurance. He kissed Leon’s forehead, hugging him.
“It’s okay.” Raihan promised. “I’ll be upstairs in a minute, okay? I want you to unwind and relax.” He ran his hands down Leon’s arms, gently rubbing Leon’s arms. “You’re so cute in this hoodie.”
A slight red hue tinted Leon’s face as he hid it in the hood. “You’re just saying that because I’m in your hoodie.”
“I may have impeccable taste in hoodies, but you make it even better and much more cuter. Like a blue Goodra with fuzzy purple horns.”
Leon let out a playful whine. “Stop.”
“Okay.” Raihan pulled the hood off of Leon and ruffled his hair. “I’ll be up there in a minute.”
Smirking, Leon grabbed his and Raihan’s suitcase and made his way upstairs. His foot slip on a step, causing Raihan to flinch, but he reacted quick enough to avoid tripping. Once he made it to the top of the stairs, he entered the room Peony pointed out.
Peony stood beside Raihan as he crossed his arms. A soft smile shifted to a strict frown. He glared at Peony, looking for answers.
“Talk.”
“Why don’t we take a seat first?”
Leading Raihan to the kitchen, Peony offered him a seat at the table. As Raihan got situated, Peony made some coffee for the two of them. Once it was ready, Peony approached the opposite side of the table, offering Raihan a cup.
“I think he’s got a tracker implanted in him.” Peony stated as he say down. “I can’t confirm, but if I know one thing about my brother, it’s that he has to know where things are at.”
“We can look into it once Leon’s comfortable.” Raihan assured, taking a sip if coffee. “I wouldn’t be surprised, but Leon can’t afford to be frazzled while he’s in a foreign area and not mentally prepared.” Shrugging his shoulders, he set the cup down. “What we can do, is get some background. You have us here, so I think we deserve some answers.”
“Understood.” Peony leaned back. “I suppose I should start with why I chose to depart ways with my brother.”
Raihan leaned forward. “It is a strange set of circumstances. The then up and coming champion disappeared after the new chairman was appointed. Never to be seen again.”
“It certainly look unexpected and controversial from the outside. Though it’s quite troubling from the inside.” Peony let out a deflated sigh. “When your older brother is the charismatic and intellectual child, some parents try to pressure the other kids to be the same.”
“As an only child, I can’t say I relate.”
Peony chuckled. “In that respect, I envy you.” He sighed. “My mother wanted me to be like Rose, but in doing so, our relationship soured and I became a delinquent runaway.”
Tilting his head, Raihan watched Peony. Though he felt there was more to the story, he wasn’t going to pressure Peony to delve too deep if he didn’t want to. That said, part of Raihan wondered how this would relate to the current situation.
“I don’t like speaking about my past,” Peony admitted, “and distancing myself from Rose has been my way to heal from it.” Green eyes scanned Raihan. “I’m telling you this… condensed version of my past because there most likely is something there that cause Rose to be so possessive over Fuzzy.”
Standing up, he motioned for Raihan to follow him. Heading for the stairs, he planned to check in on the occupants upstairs. Raihan silently followed him.
“I think Fuzzy and I can find healing in each other.” Peony mused. “Maybe sharing my story with him… and you, will help me. And I think I can fix the damage my brother caused Fuzzy. Where Rose isolated him and tried to claim him, I will set him free and show him that this flower won’t hurt him. That’s why I wanted him to come here.”
Peaking into Peonia’s room, Peony greeted his daughter, who was lounging on her bed, doing homework. He introduced her to Raihan and reminded her that he and Leon would be there for a bit and that they wouldn’t bother her. He then moved towards the guest bedroom.
There, they found Leon asleep on the floor. He had started unpacking by the look of things as clothes were neatly piled on the dresser and their toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and razors were in the bathroom. From what Raihan could infer, Leon probably planned to decompress while putting his hats and hair ties in the appropriate locations, but ended up passing out instead.
Raihan gently picked Leon up, shaking his head in amused disbelief. He proceeded to set the unconscious champion on the bed, but didn’t bother covering him, knowing it wasn’t necessary.
“I appreciate your honesty and know Leon will appreciate your aid.” Raihan thanked. “However, I’m going to need time to truly trust you.” His hand slowly ran through Leon’s hair. “Your little stunt could have set him back. Regardless of intent, you can’t just sporadically react like that with him. Not after Rose repeatedly invaded his space for control.” Fingers gently held strands of hair as Raihan paused. “I cannot lose him again, and I won’t let him be taken advantage of.”
“I respect that.” Peony understood. “Your concerns are valid, and Leon didn’t deserve to have his boundaries violated like that. However,” he looked at Leon, watching him breathe, “I can assure you I won’t make the same mistakes he did. My words might not convince you, but I hope my actions will.”

Crowning Sanctuary (A RaiLeon Crown Tundra fic) Chapter 1
This is a sequel to Volatile Contact and Dragon Protection. Following the events of the Darkest Day and the abuse at Rose’s hand, Raihan wants more insight and motive for why Rose did it. A chance run in with Peony may just be what he needs. However, Peony, who’d prefer not to get involved, agrees to help Leon and will only provide answers if Leon comes with him to Freezington.
Tumblr media
“No.”
“But you’re the only one who can help.”
“What part of, ‘I never want to see Rose again’, aren’t you understanding?”
“This isn’t about you!”
Stubbornness must have been a family trait. Though he hadn’t expected to run into Peony while taking Leon to a physical therapy session, part if Raihan was glad that he did. After Rose was apprehended, there were still a few things that needed to be sorted out.
Namely, a pattern of behavior and if Leon was the only person to suffer from Rose’s violent obsession. Bede hadn’t shown signs of abuse, but he did have mental scars from Rose’s neglectful memory as well as from the pressure to show the chairman he was as good or better than Leon.
“He’s been arrested,” Peony reminded, “so that’s a closed case if I’ve ever saw one.”
“For trying to enact the Darkest Day,” Raihan stated, folding his arms, “not for… other crimes that have recently come to light.”
“Oh, please. Besides being a business man with the patience and impulse of a caffeinated Greedent, he’s a saint.”
The hint of venom in Peony’s voice did not go unnoticed. A bit of a surprise coming from Rose’s brother. However, given how little Rose talked about him, Raihan didn’t doubt that there was some tension between these two brothers.
With that in mind, the thought that Peony knew nothing about Rose’s malice due to cutting ties did occur to Raihan. Not that Raihan could blame him. In some ways, Peony had the right idea when he decided to disappear.
“A saint?” Raihan repeated. “Not in the slightest.” He looked around, making sure they were alone. “He did some things, bad things, to Leon.”
“Bad things to…?” Peony’s head tilted, confused. “What’d he do to Fluffy?”
Raihan sighed, pulling out his phone, dreading the explanation. “He… abused Leon. Harassed him and violated his trust.” He winced as he sensed Peony’s tension. “He threatened him. Almost kissed him in one instance and did so on his head in another.”
Peony froze, processing the information with stunned horror. “He wouldn’t.”
“He would.” Raihan pulled up his photo library. “I saw both instances. And though I didn’t get that photographed, I did get photos of the abuse.”
He showed Peony the scars on Leon's back and the gashes on his head from when Rose slammed his head against the window. It was sickening, despite the images only being photos. Violently shaking, Peony glared at Raihan.
“Why are you showing me this?”
“Because we need closure.” Raihan sighed as he put his phone away. “While we have enough proof to prosecute him for it, the investigator we’ve been working with thought it might provide additional proof if this abuse started when he was younger. He is speculating that this aggressive possessiveness could have started much sooner than Leon.”
Letting out an annoyed growl, Peony crossed his arms. He heavily stomped around, pacing with no real sense of direction. He didn’t know if he should be angry or horrified. Or a little bit of both.
Peony couldn’t believe his brother could do such a thing. There was no way the intellectually inclined perfectionist could do such a thing. He was too respectable. Too gifted to be so violent. Yet, the evidence was as clear as day.
“Bring me to him.” Peony requested, giving Raihan his attention. “I need to see Fluffy for myself.”
~
Leon’s session was just about finished when Raihan brought Peony. Though he was in good health, the doctors wanted Leon to get some physical therapy to help with residual pain after the Eternatus attack. Raihan agreed it was necessary, concerned that ignoring Leon’s injuries longer would hurt him. Leon, on the other hand, tried to deny that anything was wrong, despite the exhaustion and heavy limbs.
However, after discussing it openly and honestly, Leon agreed to get physical therapy for Raihan’s sake, not wanting Raihan to constantly worry. He also agreed to get therapy sessions after, which the specialist helped provide by requesting a therapist come in for about an hour. That way, Leon could get help process everything in one visit.
As they approached the room Leon was in, Raihan stood before Peony, stopping him from entering the room. A hand lightly yet firmly stood between them as Raihan proceeded.
“Before you see him, I want you to keep in mind that how he reacts towards you isn’t personal.” Raihan stated. “Though you are completely different, you do resemble Rose to some degree. Should he react negatively, it’s not because he hates you. It’s because he’s afraid of your brother. Understood?”
Peony was silent for a moment as he registered the statement and the implications behind it. “Understood, Tiny.”
Raihan nodded, ignoring the nickname. He entered the room first, having Peony follow with a bit of distance. Leon was sitting on a couch, his frame deflated. Eyes were rimmed with red with tears pooling around them.
“How’d it go?” Raihan inquired, sitting next to Leon. “Hug it out while working out?”
Leon chuckled as he rubbed his eyes. “Something like that.”
“He’s making progress.” The therapist confirmed, handing Leon the box of tissues on her desk. “He still feels a bit riled up about what happened. Guilty and terrified by it, but he’s starting to understand that he isn’t at fault. And that’s what I’d call progress.” She eyed Peony for a brief moment. “Who’s your friend?”
“Someone who might be able to give us additional proof to keep Rose locked up for as long as possible .” Raihan gently wrapped an arm around Leon as he turned his attention to Leon. “You remember Peony, yeah? Your predecessor that your dojo master had to fill in for and Rose’s younger brother.”
Leon’s frame jolted as he backed out of Raihan’s side hug. Shoulders tensed and eyes froze on Peony, trembling. Recognition might have been there, but fear was instilled in him.
“It’s okay, Lee.” Peony softly greeted, using his familiar nickname to help keep things calm. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
“I don’t mean to be offensive,” the therapist started, “but you shouldn’t be here.”
“Well I am.” Peony stated, standing before Leon as he spoke with the therapist. “I’m the only one who can fix what my brother did.”
Leon stood up, not liking being stood over. Raihan followed. He didn’t want to be sitting in the event Leon reacted negatively.
Not knowing where to start, Peony eyed Leon’s frame. Namely his expression and how his frame reacted. His hand lightly hovered over Leon’s cheek, tapping it just lightly enough for Leon not to flinch wildly.
Leon did, however, shift away from Peony’s hand. He inched closer to Raihan as Peony’s hand froze in place. As he moved it, arms subconsciously shot up to protect Leon’s head.
“Please don’t hurt me.” Leon squeaked. “I’ve been good. Honest.”
His eyes widened as Peony’s hand landed on his shoulder, resting at the base of Leon’s neck. Leon smacked Peony’s hand off of him, hands now protecting his throat.
“Not again, Rose! Please!”
Peony shot an apologetic gaze at Leon. It didn’t take a medical professional to know that a scar was there. Even if it wasn’t physical.
“That bastard.” Peony noted under his breathe. “Hurting the kid like that.” He looked around the room, sensing that something was off. “We’ve got to get you out of here.”
He paused for a moment, contemplating his next move. Without warning. Peony grabbed Leon’s arm, causing him to let out a hoarse gasp. Raihan wedged himself between the two, dislodging Leon from Peony. Leon latched onto Raihan, shaking violently.
Raihan shuffled around, positioning Leon in front of him so he could hold him mote comfortably. He mentally smacked himself for letting that happen. Even if he didn’t expect it. That must have effected Leon’s progress to some degree.
“You said you wanted to see him. Not attempt to kidnap him.” Raihan growled.
“I’m not trying to kidnap him.” Peony deflected, now offended. “But if you want my help, you will let me take him to Freezington. Where Leon can heal and won’t be monitored by Rose.”

How Did You Know? A RaihanxLeon Fic
I wanted to write two ship fics involving Raihan having a bonding moment with the younger siblings of his boyfriends. One with Marnie and this one with Hop.
This fic has Leon planning to help Hammerlocke after the Eternatus battle, not wanting to nap, and Hop asking Raihan how he knew he loved Lee.
Tumblr media
“So I was thinking the center piece should be a replica of Gigantamax Duraludon. It’d look sleek and modern while reflecting your biggest asset.”
Papers were sprawled on the ground like blankets after a nightmare. Sketches of outfits, decorations, and layouts were carefully drawn and meticulously thought out. Each piece matching a dragon theme with colors reflecting Raihan and his city.
Since the battle with Eternatus, Leon was trying to find a way to make it up to Raihan. The Pokémon damaged his gym and terrorized Hammerlocke. So, in order to help out, Leon decided to throw a charity banquet. Leon wanted to give the people of Galar hope after the Darkest Day was brought upon them. He also felt bad that he had inadvertently dragged Raihan into a situation caused by Rose’s impatience.
The proceeds would go to repairs for the gym and the adjacent buildings first and foremost. There would also be a fund set up for anyone needing relief. Anything left over, should they go over their goal, would go to the school and aid a research facility Sonia planned to set up.
Currently, Leon was trying to get the final touches in order. Inviting Raihan over for lunch, it gave them the perfect time to review everything. As for the mess, Leon assured he’d clean it up. Lest his mother throw a fit.
“What about Hop and Gloria?” Raihan inquired. “They should be a part of this as well considering they helped.”
“I’m way ahead of you.” Leon looked around, pulling out a concept sketch. “They’re invited, of course, and I’m going to be giving them a dedication during my speech. I was also thinking we could have the entrance set up to make guests feel like they’re walking into the battle. With Hop and Gloria fighting Eternatus alongside Zacian and Zamazenta.”
”Sounds like you have things figured out.” Raihan flashed a smile as he scanned Leon’s concept. “I think this will work out perfectly.”
“I hope so. I feel awful for how things turned out.”
“You shouldn’t.” Raihan shrugged. “It wasn’t your fault.”
“I know, but I should have done more to stop Rose when I had the chance.”
There was a brief, silent pause as the statement set in. Leon let out a yawn, rubbing his eyes. He leaned against Raihan for a moment, zoning out as he watched the wall. Realizing ot was more than a yawn, and Leon actually having dark circles under his eyes, Raihan wrapped an arm around him.
“When was the last time you slept?”
“I don’t know…” Leon trailed off, “yesterday… maybe the day before.”
Flinching, Raihan glared at Leon. “Damn it, Leon. Why? You know you need sleep.”
Leon shook his head. “I can’t. Not until I get this done.”
“But you won’t be much help if you pass out.”
“I won’t. My will won’t let me until this is all set and ready to go.”
He staggered slightly as he stood up. Purple hair flopped as he looked around at the paperwork, twitching as he seemed to find what he was looking for. As Leon went to grab something, his wrist was grabbed and yanked back with the rest of Leon’s frame.
A stunned squeak escaped Leon as Raihan picked him up. Carrying him up the stairs, Raihan ignored Leon’s embarrassed demands to be put down. Once they got to Leon’s room, Raihan plopped Leon on the bed.
“Raihan!” Leon whined. “I need to get back to work.”
“No, what you need is sleep.”
Leon sat up, pouting. “I don’t wanna.”
“Too bad.”
Flicking Leon’s forehead, Raihan gently pushed Leon down. Raihan proceeded to crawl over Leon and flop next to him on the bed. Wrapping his arms around Leon, Raihan held him, preventing Leon from getting up.
Squirming around, Leon faced Raihan, annoyed and unamused. It’d be intimidating if Leon weren’t so cute. Raihan knocked bangs off of Leon’s face as he made sure he was comfortable.
“We can continue later.” Raihan promised kissing Leon’s forehead. “An hour nap is all I ask for. Or else you’ll lose hugging privileges for a week.”
Leon grumbled in defeat. He rolled around slightly, one leg sprawling over Raihan’s as he laid his head on Raihan’s chest. An arm draped over Raihan, as Leon finally found a comfortable position.
Two Hours Later
“Mom always said he was a cute sleeper.”
Feeling that things had gotten too quiet, Hop decided to check up on Leon. And when he found Leon sleeping, clinging to Raihan like a Grooky on a tree, he was both confused and amused.
Since he was awake, Raihan managed to sit up, miraculously not disturbing Leon in the process. And he enjoyed interacting with Hop. Plus, he wouldn’t be going anywhere anytime soon, so he appreciated the company.
“She’s not wrong.” Raihan agreed, stroking Leon’s hair. “He looks like a giant, purple Wooloo.”
Hop chuckled, picturing the comparison. “I was going to say Yamper, but that’s a lot more accurate.”
“Especially like this.” Raihan snicked. “Arceus knows he needed the sleep.”
Leon let out a sigh, hugging Raihan tighter as he continued to sleep. As silence set in, Hop fidgeted, hands tensing and eyes flinched. He looked at Leon then Raihan then back to Leon.
“Can I ask you something?” Hop inquired.
“Sure. What’s up?”
“How did you know you loved Lee?”
Raihan tilted his head. It was a question he hadn’t thought Hop would ask. It had happened so naturally and gradually that Raihan hadn’t reflected on recently. He glanced at the ceiling.
“I think it was after Eternatus was released.” Raihan recalled. “I mean, I had feelings for him before that. Probably after our second or third Championship Cup match. And we did start dating after that. So I think that’s when I subconsciously knew.” He softly chuckled before turning grim. “Then he got hurt, and that’s when I realized just how deeply I loved him.”
He paused, remembering the scene. Charizard was almost feral as he stood over Leon. He was willijg to let Hop get close to Leon, but not Gloria. Presumably because she had caught Eternatus and Charizard didn’t want Eternatus near Leon. Captured or not.
It took a little crisis adverting to get Charizard to calm down, but Raihan managed. The starter had calmed long enough for Raihan to grab Leon. Despite not technically being a dragon type, Charizard seemed to cooperate with methods Raihan typically used on the dragons he raised.
In the end, Leon had fought his hardest and went down defended the kids. Which was in character for Leon. However, he did so at the cost of almost dying. And that’s what really made the encounter worse.
”I know I wasn't the only one concerned, or the only one who cares about him, but I felt like I almost lost a part of myself, ya know?” Raihan noted as his hand pet the back of Leon’s head. “I may have always known subconsciously, but that day set it in stone.”
Hopping off the chair, Hop approached the bedside with a soft smile. He sat on the edge of the bed, eyeing Leon fondly.
“It’s funny, I think we expected him to ended up with Sonia. Childhood friends and all.” He chuckled. “But in all honesty, he’s so happy with you and I would never change that.” Hop gave Raihan a wide smile. “Thank you for loving him.”
Raihan smirked. “And here I thought you were mad that I stole Leon from you.”
“Of course not. Lee’s got plenty of love to spare.” Hop chuckled. “I will warn you though, Wooloo are known to attack people on rare occasions. I once saw them trample a guy for threatening their farmer.”
Snickers echoed, amused by such a threat. Knowing Hop, he would find away to follow through with it. Keeping a smile, Raihan let out a slow, relieved sigh.
“I needed to hear that.” Raihan stated. “I was so worried that I’d mess up and lose Leon and I needed the reminder that we’re not alone. Thank you, Hop.”
Snickering, Leon shifted around so he could see Raihan. Purple hair blanketed over Leon’s back as he gazed at Raihan with a soft, amused grin.
“Aw, you got the Hop seal of approval.” He kissed Raihan’s cheek. “He’s deeply invested when it comes to my happiness.”
“That he is. Not that I can blame him. You’re very easy to worry about.” Raihan’s arm slithered down, wrapping around Leon’s waist. “As for you, my scruffy oversized Wooloo, you aren’t getting out of sleeping.”
Leon whined. “But..”
Hop lightly smacked Leon’s head. “Lee, if you don’t sleep, ma will have your head.”
Pouting, Leon glared at Hop. “Not you too.”
“Please.” Grabbing a nearby throw blanket, Hop covered Leon. “If you sleep a little longer, at least until supper, I’ll make sure ma makes those lemon scones you like.”
Plopping his head on Raihan, Leon whined. Getting ganged up on wasn’t fun, even if it was in good faith. However, the offer of one of his favorite sweets was tempting. Eyelids sagged, closing as Leon nodded in defeat. The last thing he saw was Hop smiling as Raihan’s voice echoed in his ears.
“Sleep well, sweet prince.”

My Brother Can’t be Hurt Again (a RaihanxPiers fic)
Experimenting with RaihanxPiers a bit. Wanted to do a fic where Marnie gives her two cents while defending her brother. I have a plan to do something similar with Hop in a RaihanxLeon fic.
Warning: referenced cheating, referenced stalking, implied abuse, mild language
Tumblr media
Arms wrapped around Piers as he entered the living room. The scent of sand and cinnamon blended with sweat and cedar wood as Piers huffed. He wasn’t big on Bewear hugs. Especially from a Flygon sized gym leader. But Piers could manage knowing it was one of Raihan’s ways to display affection.
Now just wasn’t the time for one. With the day sporting three challenges, a concert, and Obstagoon freaking out as a storm rolled in, he needed a shower.
“Let me go.” Piers sighed. “I smell like a wet Yamper.”
“I’d say more like a wet Linoone.”
“Whatever the case, I need to freshen up. Unless you want to sleep with Obtsagoon.”
Sarcastically pouting, Raihan released Piers. “Oh, alright.” Grabbing Piers’ wrist, Raihan quickly pulled him in for a kiss. “Enjoy.”
Piers rolled his eyes, groaning. He went for the restroom. Pulling the ties out of his hair, Piers’ hair draping down like a veil was the last thing Raihan saw before the door closed. The sound of the shower running was soothing.
Leaning against the wall, Raihan hummed along to Piers’ singing. Looking at the kitchen, he wondered if he should help clean up. Not that there was much to clean up, save a few dishes.
“You better not hurt him.”
Jumping, Raihan turned to find Marnie a few feet across from him. He wasn't sure how long she had been there, but she was there all the same. Marnie was sneaky, like her brother, just shorter and younger than Piers.
However, that was not what Raihan’s focus fell on. Rather, the comment she made. A confusing, unprompted comment.
“What?” Raihan sighed, tilting his head.
“You better not hurt my brother.” She repeated.
“What a puzzling little thought.” Raihan mused, trying to keep the mood light. “I would never.”
Marnie entered the kitchen, her glare locked onto Raihan. Sitting at the table, she waited for Raihan to join her. Curious, Raihan followed, sitting across from Marnie.
“My brother might be reserved when it comes to relationships, but I won’t.” Marnie stated, folding her arms on the table. “Do you know what it’s like to see your brother so heartbroken because of an ex? I do.”
It was sweet how Marnie was looking out for Piers. He had grown accustom to Piers looking out for Marnie, but until today, he couldn’t say he saw the same from Marnie that often. If at all.
It was curious too. Out of all the things for her to get vocal about, Piers’ dating life was not what Raihan expect Marnie to get hook on first. Him getting hurt was the first thing Raihan thought of. Or perhaps when Piers was helping out with the Dynamaxing shenanigans caused by Sordward and Shielbert. But if she was going to be concerned with her brother dating him, Raihan could address it.
“Why do you think I’ll hurt him?” Raihan leaned forward resting his arms on the table. “I’m glad that you are watching out for Piers, but we’ve been together for a while and you haven’t mentioned anything until now. So why bring this up now?”
He wanted to respect Marnie’s concerns. Her concerns were valid, even if he was just finding out about them now. However, that didn’t mean Raihan didn’t have questions. That he didn’t know why she was mentioning this now.
“His first and only other boyfriend cheated on him with some minor league gym leader.” Marnie winced, face twitching with disgust. “His last girlfriend was a stalker and while things would end amicably, his first girlfriend died in a car crash a few months later.” Speechless, Raihan’s eyes widened as Marnie continued. “He tried to hide it from me, but I always knew.”
As Raihan processed everything Marnie told him, a fiery spark in her grew. Once neutral concern turned to anger and concern. Blue eyes sharpened and froze, focused on her objective.
“You may be a talented gym leader, who’s fun and determined, but can you really expect me to believe that you won’t hurt him like they did? Or that I would let you be the reason he cries himself to sleep?”
A reasonable question. Based on what she told Raihan, he had no reason to doubt her skepticism. Proving it wrong was key if they were to continue cohabitating. For their sake and especially Piers’.
“What can I do to show you that I’m not like them?”
Marnie’s expression softened, considering the notion. “Love him. Don’t be afraid to show him affection while respecting his space. Listen to him. He’s a simple guy with simple needs. However,” her glare sharpened, “he’s been fighting for so long now that he forgot he can let go.” Blue eyes sharpened. “If you want to prove yourself, let him feel secure. Let him feel like he doesn’t always have to be strong. That he can be vulnerable around you without sacrificing his dignity.”
Marnie’s head tilted as she heard the shower shut off. He’d be in there for a few more minutes. With hair like his, it needed time to dry.
”I just want Piers to be happy.” Marnie sighed. “He doesn’t deserve all of the heartbreak. Or the nights when he cries himself to sleep.”
Hands covered Marnie’s eyes as she let out a pleading sigh and jittery shoulders. It was hard to see her this vulnerable, all the while trying to hold it together for Piers. Despite not having siblings of his own, Raihan understood why she would be so concerned.
”You’re a very good sister.” Raihan commended, lightly tapping her shoulder as he heard motion. “It must be difficult, and I doubt he wants you to worry so much about him.”
Marnie smirked, wiping her eyes. “Of course he does, but these Spikemuth siblings gotta have each other’s back. Whether he likes it or not, I’m gonna protect him.”
Raihan chuckled. “And you’re doing a great job.”
“Gossiping, are we?”
Piers was standing in the doorway, hair draped over his shoulder in a twirled braid. Marnie smirked, getting out of her seat and exiting the kitchen. She flashed Raihan a glare then smiled at Piers as she went to her room. Watching Marnie, Piers wondered what she was scheming.
Using his distracted state to his advantage, Raihan stood up with a smirk. Walking over to him, wrapping an arm around Piers’ shoulders.
“We were bonding over our love for a certain Obstagoon.” Raihan kissed Piers’ forehead.
Piers groaned rolling his eyes. “At least she didn’t bite you. Or call Team Yell.” He shrugged his shoulders. “The last person I dated ran out after she and Liz threatened to release a hoard of angry Stunky on her.” He kissed Raihan, who was concerned, but impressed. “I think she likes you.”
~
Treating Piers to breakfast at his favorite diner was supposed to be a good time. Raihan was going to take Marnie’s request to heart. He was going to show Piers that he could make him feel safe.
But one trip to the restroom seemed to stop that. Raihan was only gone for a few minutes and knew Piers would be fine. Or so he thought.
Instead, Raihan found Piers’s arm being held by some guy, visibly disturbed. The man in front of him had blond hair, brown eyes, and stood about five centimeters taller than Piers. The smirk on his faced wreaked of annoyance with intent that was not going the way he wanted it to.
“Let me go!” Piers growled.
“I came out all this way to see you,” his grip tightened, “the least you can do is show me some respect and talk to me.”
“You don’t deserve my respect. Not after you cheated on me.”
“You’re still hung up on that? Piers. Babe. That was the old me. I was young and stupid. I’ve learned my lesson and want to start over.”
“Not. Interested.” Piers yanked his arm away from the man. “Besides, I’m seeing someone else.”
“I know. That dumbass gym leader from Hammerlocke. Not that I care.” He shoved Piers against the wall, now seeming to bring attention to himself and Piers as he pinned Piers there. “Only one person can have you. Me. And I ain’t about to let some cocky son of a bitch steal you.”
The man held Pier’s chin as he widely grinned. Eyes flickered as the man leaned closer to Piers. Panic set in faster than a Rapidash as Piers realized what was going on.
“Let me go, you piece of shite.” Piers kneed the man in the stomach, causing him to recoil long enough for him to free his arm. “We. Are. Over. And I am not stooping to your level because you think you own me. Just leave me alone!”
“Why you little…”
A hand raised aggressively as the man retaliated. But before the man could hit Piers, a fist landed squarely on his face, colliding with his cheekbone. Raihan stood between them now, shielding Piers from whatever the man’s next move could be.
“Back off.” Raihan growled.
The man stood up, enraged, ready to fight Raihan. The dragon tamer, meanwhile, stood over him with an equally aggressive smirk. As he took a step forward, Raihan felt a tug on his sleeve. Looking back, Oiers shook his head.
“Just take me home.”
Piers’ glare turned, bitterly looking at the door. And though his face refused to show it, he was shaken. His frame was fidgeting like an anxious Yamper. His frame shrunken like an alarmed Silicobra.
Raihan glared at the man before looking around. Finally noting the crowd, Raihan nodded. He grabbed Piers and got out of the diner.
~
“I can’t fucking believe him.” Piers slammed the door behind him. “That arsehole thinks he can just show up acting like he did nothing wrong.” He tossed his jacket on the ground. “Then tries to kiss me thinking it’ll make everything better. Fuck that!”
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Piers tried to recompose himself. He looked at Raihan, who had been pretty quiet for the entire journey home. It made Piers feel guilty seeing as he was letting the incident at the dinner get to him.
“I’m sorry for losing my cool. That was my ex.” Piers folded his arms. “I thought I wouldn't see him again. Prayed I wouldn’t. I… I shouldn’t have let it get that far.”
“It’s okay.”
“No, it’s not. I let him get under my skin. I thought I was over him and the torment he put me through. I should have walked away and found you. Not let him corner me like that.”
Tense, Piers walked down the hallway, Raihan not far behind. As Piers entered his room, a fist struck the wall. Though it didn’t leave a dent, it did cause Raihan to jump, rushing over to Piers to make sure he was okay. He inspected the hand, that was now turning red on his knuckles. A defeated sigh escaped him as his free hand covered his face.
Raihan led Piers to the bathroom. Grabbing the first aid kit, he pulled out the bandages. Piers’ hand might not have been bleeding, but Raihan wanted it covered to prevent further damage. Piers, all the while, was quiet, grinding his teeth. He didn’t resist as Raihan had him sit on the counter and worked on his hand.
Remembering what Marnie said earlier that Piers just confirmed, Raihan processed what to do from here. His blood was boiling now that he had a face to the ex. But what made it worse, was how swiftly the man chose to hit Piers. That didn’t feel spontaneous. That felt familiar.
“He didn’t just cheat on you, did he?” Raihan inquired.
Silence. Raihan stood in front of him, leaning forward, as he watched Piers. Black and white hair shook as adrenaline started to subside. Raihan wasn’t going to be forceful, but he wanted to help.
“Piers? Did he beat you?”
Piers, through gritted teeth and aggravated panic, nodded. Backing up slightly, Raihan let out a sympathetic sigh. No wonder Piers was so stressed. Cheating on Piers was already bad, but beating him only made it worse. Raihan wondered if Marnie knew. Though given she never mentioned it, Raihan doubted she did.
Mentally, Raihan was glad that he stepped in. There was no way in hell he would let that happen. Ever again. However, that didn’t matter in the moment. Not when Piers was trying to hold off every emotion in the book.
Adrenaline and rage dissipated as Piers’ frame deflated. His body shook violently now, and tears started trailing. He remained quiet, but tried to hide his face. Raihan gently held Piers’ shoulders.
“Piers… It’s… I’m here.” Patiently, he waited for a response. It didn’t have to be vocal. It could be a nod. A glance. An extended hand. Anything.
“Hold me.” Piers softly requested.
He gently pulled Piers off of the counter and pulled him in for a hug. Raihan’s hand cupped the back of Piers’ head, as his other around Piers’ waist.
“Let it out.”
Piers buried his head in Raihan’s jacket. His arms wrapped his arms around Raihan as he let out a whimper. His legs buckled and gave out, which prompted Raihan to sit down, setting Piers on his lap.
Raihan remained silent, letting Piers get out what he needed to without prodding. His head tilted as he heard footsteps. Light, worried footsteps.
“He’s gonna be okay.” Raihan quietly assured, looking at Marnie with a sympathetic gaze as he tightened his hold slightly. “He had a rough morning.”
Nodding, Marnie disappeared for a moment. She returned with a black and white blanket with red accents. Proceeding to drape it over Piers, Marnie sat beside them, resting her hand on her brother’s back.
“It’s okay.” Marnie whispered. “I’m here, and Raihan’s gonna protect you, yeah. We love you.”
Her hand fell onto her lap as Piers weakly nodded. Glaring at Raihan, Raihan knew Marnie was thanking him. Though he knew he had a ways to go to prove himself, he knew this was a start.
Raihan pulled her into the hug, letting the Spikemuth duo share the embrace as Piers released the beast. Unity and comfort was a dish best served warm and that’s just what they needed. Flicking Piers’s hair, he reflected on the situation. He hated that Piers had to suffer, but he also realized he needed to see it. To see the pain. And now that he did, Raihan knew what to do in order to protect Piers. And he would do everything in his power to keep Piers safe.

Every Offense, Sir, but I never Liked You Either. Now Especially. Final Chapter
The final chapter is up. This was a fun fic to write. Certainly an interesting one. I hope you guys enjoyed it too.
Tumblr media
Leon was quiet for a moment, holding back his anxiety behind a faux smile. Despite Rose seeming calm, and officers being stationed in the room, he wasn’t sure how to feel.
“It’s… good to see you.” Leon stated. “If only it weren’t under these circumstances.”
“I know what you mean.” Rose noted. “I owe you an apology for what happened. I didn’t mean for Eternatus to hurt you. For that, I am sorry.”
His hand reached out to grab Leon’s, slowly and seemingly gently. However, the moment it brushed against Leon’s, Leon moved it, resting his hands on his lap. Looking at Leon, he realized a slight shift. Gone seemed the warm pleasantries.
“What’s wrong?” Rose inquired, his cuffed hand tapping the bottom of Leon’s chin.
Leon recoiled, turning to face the window. His body surged with hope as he thought about the freedom on the other side. The open landscape and flying to greener pastures. He then looked to the window parallel to it. It’s dark, one way view feeling cold and isolating. Leon then looked back at Rose.
“What did you gain from all of this?” Leon sighed.
“What do you mean?” Rose inquired, leaning forward.
“You know exactly what I mean.” Amber eyes studied Rose. “The Darkest Day. Gaslighting Raihan. The years of emotional and physical abuse you put me through. What did you gain from all of the pain?”
“Leon, you must be misremembering things. There was no abuse. I assume Raihan is trying to gaslight you into thinking I’m the bad guy.”
Leon didn’t react, even if it stung that Rose was trying to uses Raihan in such a way. “Raihan isn’t trying to turn me against anyone. He doesn’t even know I’m here.” He put his crossed arms on the table. “I just want to know what I did to deserve any of this. What did I do to deserve all of the beatings? Why do you want rip me away from everyone I love?”
Rose smiled. Standing up, he leaned again the table as he studied Leon. “You really don’t know the gravity of your championship, do you? How huge of a step sponsoring you was.”
“I am thankful for your sponsorship. But that doesn’t answer why you did what you did during that time.”
Chuckling, Rose scooted closer to Leon. “We were in the midst of a pretty controversial scandal when the previous champion retired. Not considering the consequences, as usual, his retirement made my first few months in office hell. We needed a fix. Fast.” Glaring at Leon, the younger msn shivered. “You fell into our laps so generously.” A hand grabbed the bottom of Leon’s chin. “I saw talent in you, and perhaps a bit of myself. You were the perfect candidate, but,” nails dug into Leon’s jaw, “we couldn’t afford another controversy. So I had to be firm with you. Teach you not to screw up your future like…” Stopping himself, Rose sighed. “I… we needed results and a champion who gave Galar hope.”
“So that was all for damage control? Years of abuse for status?”
“Of course not,” Rose shook his head, “I was doing it for you. For Galar. Galar couldn’t lose another champion because of the impact of a feud. You needed to learn how to be a proper champion that your family could be proud of. You needed guidance, protection, and change, and I could provide that for you.”
Leon yanked his head from Rose’s grip. His frame started shaking as anger rose. “And Raihan? What does making him feel like a shite boyfriend do?”
“Reminds him that he’ll never be good enough for you.” Rose inched towards Leon, who stood up and inched back. “He’s ruining everything you accomplished under the guise that love was all you needed. He stole your smile. He stole your focus. He stole your happiness. He stole everything from me.”
Hands slammed on the table. “I was never happy with you! I was afraid of you, dammit!” Leon’s body jolted. “I was terrified every minute if everyday, wondering if you would hit me again!” Tears started forming in his eyes as his body shook violently. “ Raihan actually loves me! Which is leagues more than I can say about you. You never once cared about me! You only wanted power! Control over a situation to the point of obsession! To the point you were willing to abuse a child and force him to submit to your every desire!” Leon glared at Rose with a burning passion. “You stole my life to turn me into a slave because you are nothing but selfish. Jealous because someone else makes me happy. No wonder Peony ran away, you Arceus damned narcissistic monster! I wish that I had followed his lead sooner. With Raihan.”
Leon pulled his hat down to cover his eyes as he let out a sob. He didn’t want Rose to see him cry, but he couldn’t help it. For the first time in years, he finally found the courage to tell Rose exactly what was on his mind. For the first time in years, he felt heard.
Leon we on was so numb, the world seemed to stop around him. The next thing he knew, arms wrapped around him, pulling him back and holding him as he heard muffled yelling. Everything was a blur around him with only one sentence reaching him.
I told you he couldn’t be trusted.
Twitching, Leon pulled himself out of his daze. Rose was being restrained by two officers, previously neat hair flying around. Looking up, Leon realized Raihan was holding him. On his cheek, a noticeable red spot. Twisting, Leon’s hand held it, which caused Raihan to wince.
Gasping, Leon realized what happened. Rose hit Raihan. A hit that was meant for Leon. Leon’s throat swelled with panic.
“Oh, Arceus.” Leon gasped.
“It’s okay.” Raihan sighed, turning his attention to Leon and clamping his hands on the sides of Leon’s face. “What were you thinking? You scared the shite out if me Leon.”
“I had to do to face him alone. I had to.”
“But you're not alone.” Raihan kissed Leon’s forehead. “Not while I’m here.”
Hugging Leon, Raihan held back his own tears, happy he got there when he did. Not only to protect him, but to hear Leon stand his ground too. Raihan couldn’t be happier that Leon found his voice and laid it into Rose.
“You were so brave. Reckless, but brave.” He gently moved Leon beside him as he glared at Rose. “As for you, I don’t care what good you’ve done for him. I don’t care that I missed the early warning signs. I will never let you own him again.” He let out a growl, but was soothed when Leon held his hand. “You can pretend that you were doing everything for Leon, but we know that’s a lie. I’ve done more for him in two years than you did in ten. Every bruise you gave him, I gave him hope. For every tear, I gave him a shoulder to cry on. Where you gave him terror and abuse, I gave him love and respect. You isolated and controlled him, I set him free.”
He looked at Leon who was now hugging his arm. Amber eyes watched him lovingly as Leon kissed his cheek. Raihan grinned at Leon, letting him onow everything was going to be okay. That said, as cathartic as all of this was, Leon needed to get home. He needed calm, undisrupted peace.
“This is goodbye, Rose. You won’t be seeing us again unless your crimes against Leon are tried.”
Raihan removed his hand from Leon’s and wrapped his arm around Leon’s shoulder. Trusting the officers to keep Rose retrained, Raihan turned around and guided Leon out of the room. Moving down the hallway, Raihan took a deep breath, expelling his pent up anxiety. His body started shaking, adrenaline finally running out.
“It’s okay.” Leon sighed, wrapping an arm around Raihan’s waist. “It’s all over now.”
~
Stretched out on a hammock, Raihan gently braided Leon’s hair. Leon was peacefully sleeping on Raihan, face buried in Raihan’s shirt. After all of the chaos, renting a villa in the Resort Area of Sinnoh provided a much needed vacation. It was a step up from the hotel and plenty private.
When they got home, they spent the day venting and releasing their demons. Tears were shed, and apologies traded, but they were expected and the perfect release. At the end of the day, they were better now then the were prior to Raihan’s first meeting with Rose.
As for the former chairman in question, a case was opened for abuse. And though Leon was the longest and most prolific target of it, Bede would be interviewed too. And while it hadn’t gotten far before Bede’s sponsorship was dropped, it was clear that Rose had started doing the same to Bede. Which was a blessing and a curse. Leon empathized Bede while Raihan tried to be optimistic, thank that Opal had spontaneously mentored Bede when she did.
Letting out a sigh, Leon shuffled, wrapping his arms around Raihan. It messed with Raihan’s braid work, but he didn’t mind. Running his hand through Leon’s hair, Raihan shut his eyes as he listened to waves and Leon’s heartbeat.

Why Obstagoon? A RaihanxPiers oneshot
I’m experimentimg with a blog series I have planned and RaihanxPiers (not to worry, I still like RaihanxLeon). Raihan just has to know, why is Obstagoon Piers’ ace.
Tumblr media
Vibrating purrs blissfully escaped Obstagoon as Piers scratched behind his ears. After a long day dealing with an Impadimp infestation in Ballonlea and Team Yell’s overstimulating enthusiasm, the poor Dark Type deserved some spoiling.
Raihan had followed them home hoping to either challenge Piers to another battle or to hang out. Or both depending on how Piers was feeling.
Watching Obstagoon rest his head on Piers’ shoulder as he started petting him, curiosity crept in. It was pretty cute how Obstagoon seemed so affectionate with Piers. These Pokémon were feisty and scrappy. Certainly not this social in the wild in Raihan's experience. Yet, Piers’ Obstagoon seemed to love the attention and affection Piers gave him. Like a large bipedal Sylveon.
Piers certainly had a way with Dark Types. They loved him and Raihan was fairly certain that Piers was a Dark Type whisperer. Catching and trusting the Morpeko he caught for Marnie was proof of that. Yet, of all the Dark Types in Galar, Raihan was curious about one specifically for a very specific reason.
“Why Obstagoon?”
Piers’ head tilted. “Hm?”
Raihan got up and approached Piers. “Of all the Dark types in Galar, why is Obstagoon your ace? I always kind of saw you as a Grimmsnarl guy for an added punch against Fighting Types. Maybe even Scrafty.” He shrugged. “Heck, I feel like Toxtricity would be given your a musician and all. But Obstagoon?” Patting Obstagoon’s fur, he watched for possible defensive reactions. “He’s not delicate, but I’m sure it’s not easy battling against Bea or a well trained Lucario.”
Obstagoon snarled, snorting annoyingly. Piers chuckled, patting the Pokémon’s head. Nudging his head Piers silently motioned for Obstagoon to go inside.
“If we’re going off aesthetics, I think Obstagoon fits that perfectly.” Piers stated, opening the door. “And while I appreciate the concern, if you’re worried about his severe Fighting allergy,” he invited Raihan in once Obstagoon got inside and settled in, “we have work arounds for it. Besides, Obstagoon has been with me since I was eight. Ain’t no way I’m leaving him behind.”
“Oh?” Raihan followed Piers to the kitchen as Piers started to prepare dinner. “I assume he was your starter then.”
“More or less… Marnie! You home?!”
A door opened somewhere in the house. “Yeah!” Marnie shouted back.
“Burgers or curry?!”
“Curry! The spicy vegetarian one!”
“Alright!”
He chuckled as Marnie closed her door. He began bringing out ingredients, pots, and utensils while Raihan putz around the kitchen. As the water started warming up, Piers began chopping different a couple different vegetables and measuring out the spices.
“He’s actually the son of my family's Hoenn Linoone, Lonnie. He was a pretty mellow Linoone, and he didn't mind when five to six year old me tried to ride him like a Ponyta.” He chuckled at the memory.
“So you live in Hoenn?”
Piers nodded. “Born and raised until my father got a job in Hammerlocke when I was about eight and we had to move.”
“No kidding.” He glanced over at Obstagoon who was cozily resting on a heavily cushioned bed. “I’m guessing mom was a Galarian Linoone or and Obstagoon? Unless he hatched here and that caused a wonky region swicheroo.”
Piers nodded as he put the noodles in the now boiling water and the veggies in another pot. “We left him at the Daycare in Lilycove while we were on vacation to Alola.” He recalled, starting on the sauce. “During that time ended up getting pretty friendly with a Galarian Linoone named Luna. Didn’t expect it since he typically kept to himself and only really liked the Day Care workers.”
Raihan chuckled. “I’m guessing the owner of the Galarian Linoone wasn’t happy about Luna having an egg.”
“You’d think that but funnily enough, he wasn’t.” Piers set a timer for the pasta and veggies while he had the sauce warming up. He turned around leaning against the counter. “Sydney actually took it with humorous stride. Apparently, Luna was a rescue and he dropped Luna off hoping she could socialize with some other Pokémon while he was working on something for work.” Piers chuckled again. “He got that and then some.”
A spark shot across Raihan’s face as he stood up. “Wait… Sydney? As in Hoenn Elite Four Sydney?”
Piers nodded, scratching the back of his head. “Yeah.”
“That’s so cool.” Closing the gap between them, Raihan’s hands landed on both sides of Piers, holding the edges of the table. “Tell me more.”
Rolling his eyes, Piers groaned. “There isn’t much else to tell, but…”
As his parents continued to profusely apologize to Sydney, Piers wandered off. He knew not to go far, but Lonnie was already handling that as he trotted alongside him. Looking around, Piers was curious about Luna.
She looked so different from Lonnie, yet they were the same Pokémon. Lonnie’s fur was shades of tan while Luna was black and white. Her eyes were red while Lonnie’s were icy blue. And where Lonnie seemed aloft with an indifferent resting face, Luna looked so mischievous with a toothy grin.
Piers started walking towards Luna with Lonnie right beside him. She didn't seem mean despite her impish grin. And if Sydney saved her, she must have been nice.
Luna, who had been resting up until that point, blinked. Fur stood up cautiously as Piers got closer. She might not have seen him as a threat, but she also wasn’t sure if she could trust him yet. She let out a hiss when Piers took a step she didn’t like. This seemed to catch the attention of Sydney, but he didn’t react just yet.
Piers flinched, readjusting his position. Once he was close enough for comfort, he sat in front of Luna. Luna winced, sitting up. Bowing his head, Piers set his hands on the ground, inching one closer to her.
“Hi. I’m Piers.” He greeted. “You’re very pretty. It’s so cool that your fur matches my hair.”
Luna scanned the boy, curiously. Still on edge, she leaned forward a little to sniff him. Piers smiled as Luna sat back down. Her head tilted slightly as his smiled at her.
“I’m sorry if Lonnie was being rude.” Piers playfully tapped his head. “He’s friendly, but can be too friendly sometimes.”
Lonnie rolled his eyes as he stretched across Piers and lied down. Knocking his hand, Lonnie requested attention. Piers caved, petting Lonnie as he watched Luna.
“Can we be friends?” Piers asked.
Luna tilted her head again, considering his inquiry. Standing on all fours, she leaned in closer to Piers, startling him. She paused for a moment before sniffing him again. This time, taking in the aura from Lonnie as she did.
Her clawed paws hopped, sitting on Lonnie as she got a closer look at the boy. Piers’ heart was pounding as he watched Luna motionlessly. One wrong move and he could be toast.
A gasp escaped Piers, which alarmed his parents. However, Sydney stopped them as giggling ensued. Luna’s tail was wagging as Piers hugged her. She was licking him. Lonnie had moved, not wanting to get caught up in the fray. A shadow covered them, causing Luna to back off and curl up next to Piers.
“That was amazing.” Sydney praised, crouching down. “Luna hasn’t really liked anyone since I got her. Not even me most days.”
“She’s very nice.” Piers complemented.
Sydney nodded. “That she is.” He glanced at Luna, who was now contently purring. “You know what?” He went over to the day care couple, coming back with an egg. “I think you should have this?”
“That won’t be necessary, Sydney, sir.” Piers’ father chimed in. “He’s only eight. Too young to be a trainer.”
“If Luna is willing to trust him, I think he can start preparing.” He glanced at Piers. “Besides, you’re going to need Piers to help Luna get adjusted to living with you.” He pat Piers’ head. “And kid, I think you have a great future ahead of you.”
“My parents weren’t thrilled at first, but Luna proved to be a valuable member of the family.” Piers ran a hand through his hair. “She also seemed to be more at peace when we moved to Galar. Especially in her senior years. She probably felt at home.”
Hearing the timer go off, Piers twirled out from Raihan’s trap. As Piers turned off the oven and moved pots around, Raihan grabbed plates. Arms wrapped around Piers as he finished setting up the table.
“That was such a cute story.” Raihan complemented. “You know what I liked most about your story?”
“Hm?”
“When the big bad Flygon steals a kiss.”
“There was no…”
A quick kiss planted itself on Piers’ forehead. A second moved to his cheek. The last on porcelain lips.
“Raihan!” Piers gasped, playfully elbowing Raihan. “You don’t need to be so needy.”
“Hey, you let Obstagoon be affectionate. It’s my turn now.”
Raihan kissed Piers again as Marnie entered the dining room. This time hugging Piers. Marnie just glared at Raihan as her brother turned a shade if rose red.
“Sorry Marnie.” Raihan apologized with a smirk. “Your brother’s such a cute little Linoone that I couldn’t resist.”
She rolled her eyes, though she wouldn’t admit she was actually rather amused. Obstagoon, meanwhile, nudged Raihan with a growl, even less amused by the display. Piers patted Obstagoon’s back as he silently noted that everything was okay, his face still visibly red. And though Obstagoon would yield, Raihan couldn’t help but feel sinister daggers burning into him throughout dinner.

Volitile Contact and Dragon Protection Final Chapter
Apologies now if the ending at all seems rushed.
Tumblr media
Three days Raihan’s arse. Of course the day Leon was supposed to return home would be the day prep for the Champion Cup started. Which meant Leon just had to stay in Wyndon with Rose. Rose planned that, Raihan just knew it.
Day four, Raihan just about broke the doors to Macro Cosmos. If Leon hadn’t bolted to Raihan, hugging him, there would have been a lot more damage. He was ready to cause as much damage as possible to save Leon. But being the saint he was, Leon found a way to soothe the situation.
“Ready for the Champion Cup?” Leon asked, burying his face in Raihan’s shoulder.
Raihan could tell he was in distress, but he was using the upcoming tournament as a distraction. Leon’s breathing was awkward, moving from quick little breathes and long deep ones. And Leon’s Beware hug couldn’t fool Raihan. Leon was shaking like a wet Meowth in winter.
“Ready as I’ll every be.” Shrugging, Raihan dislodged Leon, one hand holding Leon’s shoulder while the other held the side of Leon’s face. “You promised three days.”
Leon winced. “I’m sorry. I forgot the Champion Cup was kicking off yesterday. Rose couldn't do it without me.”
“You and I both know that’s a lie. He planned that, knowing damn well you would feel obligated to help as the champion.”
Leon shrugged. “Can we get lunch? I’m hungry.”
Pulling out of Raihan’s gripped, he tried to lead Raihan to the exit. A tug stopped him as Raihan pulled him back. Hugging Leon, Raihan had questions he had to get answers to.
“Did he lock you up?”
“No.”
“Did he hurt you?”
“No.”
“Did he hurt Hop?”
Leon violently shaking his head. “No.” He buried his face in Raihan’s hoodie, wanting to disappear. “Can we just go? We only have two hours before the tournament and I’m starving. I haven’t eaten since yesterday morning.”
~
It’ll only be a minute.
Raihan knew he shouldn’t have believed it. He didn’t. Yet, he let Leon go anyways. The tournament went off without a hitch. The finals would happen tomorrow. In the meantime, Leon agreed to go to dinner with Hop, Gloria, and Raihan. Until Leon asked to check something out really quick. Leon promised it wouldn’t be long, but when Raihan saw Leon head towards Rose’s Tower, he knew Leon was in for a world of trouble.
By a stroke of luck, Piers had crossed paths with Leon. At the same time, Raihan had the worst luck with timing. Because he didn’t know what was going on, Piers wouldn’t have known to stop him. Had Raihan caught him sooner, maybe he could have.
“He’s just meeting the chairman.” Piers stated.
“It’s not that simple.” Raihan sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Why not? Rose is his sponsor, the president of Macro Cosmo, and the head of the league. What’s not simple about that?”
“What that man has been doing to Leon is down right criminal.”
Folding his arms, Piers groaned. “Explain.”
Raihan growled, losing patience. “We don’t have time for this.”
He had to get to Leon before Rose did. As he started to run towards the tower, a hand grabbed his wrist and yanked him back. Darkened eyes were unamused, but concerned.
“Let me help you. I just need answers. Is Leon in danger? If so, how much?”
“Yes. In the last week, Rose has bashed his skull unto a concrete wall, broken Leon’s boundaries attempting to kiss him, and his Ferrothorn left a long gash in his back.” He huffed, eyes wincing. “On top of that, he’s been beating Leon for years and threatening Hop to keep him quiet.”
Raihan yanked his arm out of Piers’ grip, realizing that Piers was wide eyed, disgusted, and fidgeting. There was no going back now. Not that Raihan could any longer. Raihan needed to tell someone. Anyone who would listen.
“Why?”
“I don’t know. To assure his power I assume. Look,” Raihan showed him the photos of Leon’s back, “Leon wasn’t doing anything wrong. He was just thanking Charizard for his help. And then there’s this.”
Raihan showed Piers a video he had secretly caught the threat Rose made after getting Leon. One instance catching a glimpse of Leon in accepted shock.
Icy blue eyes burned into Raihan, sharply and cautiously. “Please tell me you took these to the authorities.”
“I’m working on it, while we were at the hospital, I got the number of a detective who checked in.”
Piers nodded. “Good. He deserves justice.” Black and white hair slid as Piers looked at Rose Tower. “Save Leon. If I don’t hear from you in fifteen minutes, we’re coming after you. Might be sooner depending on Hop.”
Raihan smiled. “Thank you Piers.”
Softly smiling back, Piers hugged Raihan. “You know, I didn’t think you guys would last a week. But I’m glad you proved me wrong. I’m glad Leon has someone like you to watch out for him.”
An airy chuckle escaped Raihan. “What can I say, I learned my lesson. I’m only sorry I didn’t with you.”
“Never held it against you. It wasn’t in either of our control.” Piers shrugged, hair briefly exposing three light silvers on his throat. “I’m just glad we can still be friends.” He released Raihan. “Now, go!”
Nodding, Raihan ran towards Rose’s Tower.
~
Leon felt glass crack as his body hit the window. Thankfully, he wasn’t bleeding, but he knew he would if he slammed the window that hard again. Rose’s hand gripped Leon’s throat.
“You will postpone the battle.”
“I… won’t. As the champion it’s my duty to...”
Leon chocked as his airways tightened. “As my sponsored champion, your duty is to obey me!” He released Leon’s throat, letting him breathe. “Do you understand me?”
“I… refuse.”
“Then I guess I’ll just have to discipline you.”
“Let him go, Rose!”
Leon’s blood ran cold as Rose smirked. “Perfect timing.” Keeping Leon pinned, he turned to face Raihan. “I’m growing tired of your constant interfering, boy.” He grabbed Leon’s chin. “But since you're so insistent one inserting yourself in the situation, I guess you won’t mind witnessing Leon cheating on you.”
“You wouldn’t.” Raihan hissed, stepping towards him.
“I would.” Rose wrapped an arm around Leon’s waist and dragged Leon beside him. “I won’t go too far, but you will hate every minute of it. Don’t you agree, Leon?” He kissed Leon’s temple. “Where should we begin?”
THUD
If trauma was one hell of a drug, adrenaline and rage were nightmarish. With a fist curled and amber eyes widened, Leon froze in place. He hit Rose. He actually hit Rose.
Once his adrenaline withdrew, and now freed of Rose’s hold, Leon bolted to Raihan. Into surprised open arms. He didn’t look back at Rose, too uneasy to.
“Get me out of here.”
Blinking, Raihan nodded. “Let’s go home.”
~
A weak and damaged body slowly moved as breathes slowly escaped. Purple hair blanketed over Leon and Raihan as Leon’s face buried itself in Raihan’s chest.
Leon almost died today. Rose had completely lost it after Leon decked him. He released Eternatus, threatened to send Eternatus on the crowd if Leon didn’t try to capture it, and didn’t even seem fazed as Eternatus attacked Leon.
Had Charizard not been released already, Raihan wondered how long Leon would have survived, if he even would have, had they waited for an ambulance. The horror on Hop’s face was all Raihan needed to act fast. With Gloria taking over the fight with Eternatus, Raihan knew Hop was in good hands.
He got Leon to the hospital in the nick of time. And after several hours of intense agony, they were able to stabilize Leon.
As for Rose, he turned himself in. Surprising given just how determined he was to get away with the harm he caused Leon. Maybe there was a tiny bit of regret in Rose’s heart. A morsel of guilt.
Not that it mattered as far as Raihan was concerned. The moment he was arrested, he wasn’t just charged with starting the Darkest Day. With the evidence Raihan had gathered, he was also charged with several counts of abuse.
Leon wasn’t expected to testify unless the trial absolutely called for it. But given the photos and videos, Raihan doubted it. There was no room to deflect or deny what Raihan had caught.
That was a good thing. Or as good as it could be given the circumstances. All that mattered was that Leon was safe. Finally, truly safe. Even if the road to recovery was long.
Leon whimpered, pulling Raihan out of his train of thought. Tears streamed down his face as he curled into a ball. Wrapping his arms around Leon, Raihan tightly held him. Burying his face in Leon’s hair, Raihan’s darkened.
Leon almost died today. All because of greed, control, and jealousy. All because a man wanted to keep Leon to himself in the most possessively abusive way. And had Raihan not been there, Rose just might have enslaved Leon to obey his desires.
Running his hand down Leon’s back, he reminisced on the scar that had formed. The ugly, thorny scar caused by a selfish and ugly man. Raihan didn’t prevent it, and now Leon would have to live with the trauma for the rest of his life.
A sharp gasp escaped Leon as he violently woke up. Taking a moment to investigate his surroundings. Once he realized he was safe, he felt a damp spot on his head. Shuffling, he propped himself up. Teal eyes were drowning in tears.
Leon yelped as Raihan pulled him down. Leon awkwardly laid on Raihan as one arm wrapped around Leon’s waist and the other around Leon's shoulders. The dragon trainer hid his face Leon’s shoulder, sobbing.
“You almost died.” Raihan whispered. “You almost… I can’t…” A choking sound escaped him. “Leon, I can’t lose you.”
Softly smiling, Leon shuffled around. He lightly kissed Raihan’s forehead, wrapping his arms around Raihan’s shoulders. Resting his head on the pillow, he tilted his face toward his partner.
“You won’t lose me.” Leon assured. “I promise.” He kissed his check. “In fact, you saved me. You were my light when I was in the dark. You showed me how to stand my ground and how to love.” He hugged Raihan tighter. “I love you and I’m thankful that you continue to save me everyday.”
A roar of a sob escaped Raihan as he held Leon tighter. Whispering sweet nothingness to Raihan, Leon let Raihan expel his fear, grief, and pain. They would both need aid after today. But so long as they were together, Leon was confident they would be okay.

Volitile Contact and Dragon Protection Chapter 4
Expect angst ahead and the next chapter to be this fic’s last
Tumblr media
“Flygon, sandstorm.”
Sending out his Copperajah, Rose quickly intercepted the attack, knocking Flygon back. Leon bolted towards Flygon, checking the dragon for wounds. Thankfully, Flygon wasn’t badly hurt as it quickly got up. It flew passed Leon and Raihan to make a move.
“Flygon, use Earthquake.”
It landed, knocking the Copperajah back and causing it to flinch for a moment. The ground beneath them cracked and shook, causing a gap to form between Raihan, Leon, and Rose. No one was hurt, but Leon had tripped over himself in the chaos, landing on his back.
“Leon!”
“I’m okay!” Leon assured.
“Use Heavy Slam.” Rose commanded as he released Ferrothorn. “Ferrothorn, use Power Whip to grab Leon.”
Flinching, Raihan acted fast, releasing another Pokémon. “Flygon, dodge it and use Earthquake again! Duraludon, protect Leon!”
Duraludon slammed into Ferrothorn, knocking the Pokémon back. Standing in front of Leon as he got up, Duraludon did as he was told and guarded him. Meanwhile, Flygon narrowly dodged Copperajah and used Earthquake again. This time, it seemed to knock Copperajah down for the count.
“Ferrothorn, use Body Press on Raihan.” Rose released Escaviler. “Use Drill Run on Flygon.”
Directing Flygon to dodge the attack, Raihan prepared for impact. There was no way Flygon would have time to dodge it and attack Ferrothorn without one or both of them getting hurt. And Duraludon needed to protect Leon.
“Charizard, use Fire Blast on Ferrothorn.”
Ferrothorn writhed in pain as it was hit by the blasted, followed by getting body slammed by Charizard. Charizard proceeded to fly back over to Leon and Duraludon, resting at Leon’s side. Leon flashed the starter a smile, patting his back as he looked at Duralaudon.
“Thank you for protecting me,” Leon applauded, “but you no longer need to watch me. Charizard can take it from here, friend, and Raihan needs your protection now.”
The towering dragon said nothing, looking at Leon with understanding. He stomped over to Raihan, standing beside him as he glared at Rose. All the while, Leon held Charizard’s face in his hands.
“As for you, I may have you join the battle.” Leon mused. “Or get Raihan out of here.” Chaizard winced at the possible command, eyes widened. “I’m not going to have him hurt. So if that means I have to hand myself over to Rose to prevent that, I will. Will you protect Raihan for me?” Steam escaped Charizard’s nostrils as he looked at Leon with disturbed concern. “Please?”
Teal eyes shook as Charizard silently processed the command. He did not want to leave his trainer’s side. At the same time, he understood how much Leon cared for Raihan. Not that Charizard would admit that he, too, liked Raihan. Blinking, Charizard nodded.
“Good, boy.” Leon hugged Charizard. “No matter what happens please protect-“
A sharp pain surged through Leon's back as he let out a scream. Ferrothorn, in an act of retaliation, used Power Whip on Leon. A reckless move, but one that the Pokémon felt justified in doing.
“Leon!”
Raihan, returning Duraludon, ran over to Leon, grabbing him as his legs buckled and he fell. Meanwhile, Charizard roared, launching into a rage and attacked the Ferrothorn. Leon’s shirt was torn and his back was bleeding. So much for leaving the hospital in one piece.
Glaring at Rose, Raihan ran a finger gently over the would. “That was a low blow.” He growled, proceeding to clean the are with his sleeve. “And to think I considered letting your intrusion slide.”
“That was retaliation.” Rose corrected. “A low blow would be me telling Ferrothorn to strangle that pretty little neck of his. And intrusion?” Rose laughed. “I am allowed to be here as much as you are.” He started walking towards Raihan as he returned Copperajah and Ferrothorn to their Pokéball. “I am Leon’s guardian and sponsor after all. Now, are you going to hand him over willingly? Or am I going to have to call the authorities about threatening bodily harm and kidnapping?”
“You know as well as I do that I did not kidnap him.” Helping Leon up, Raihan kept an arm around Leon’s shoulders. “And the only place he’s going is home.”
“And he will. With me.” He glanced at Leon. “It’s time to go. Unless you want your little boy toy skewered by Escaliver, you’ll listen to me.”
“Do it.” Raihan challenged. “There ain’t no way I’m letting him go with you.”
“If you insist. Escaviler use…”
Mustering up the will to act, Leon put himself between Rose and Raihan. Despite feeling slightly faint and aching, he held his head high, glaring at Rose with disgust. Glancing at Charizard, he silently shared his intent with his starter.
“I’ll go with you.” Leon accepted. “Just… don’t hurt Raihan.”
Pleased that his threat worked, Rose smirked and motioned for Leon to approach him. Hands grabbed Leon’s arms as Raihan intercepted Leon before he could take a step. Teal eyes honed in on Leon, wide and shaking, as hands firmly held Leon with vibrating concern.
“Leon, no! You’re not going with him.”
“I’ll be okay.” Leon tried to assure.
Raihan shook his head. “No you won’t. He might not kill you, but he’ll do so much worse.”
“And if I don’t go with him, he won’t stop. He may not kill me, but I’m not going to let him kill you trying to get to me. Besides, the champion cup is in a few days, so I can’t be harmed that much.”
“Please… don’t go. I can’t lose you.”
Hands clamped on the sides of Raihan’s face. “Give me three days tops.” He kissed Raihan's forehead. “If I’m not back by then, you gave my permission to tear the place down.”
Silently, Raihan had his Rotom Phone take an image of Leon’s back. It took several shots to get the whole injury and then some, before returning to Raihan’s hand.
Leon approached Charizard. “Get Raihan home. Make sure he gets settled before meeting me back at the tower. Flygon, keep an eye on him.” Charizard growled, huffing another bout of smoke. “I know, I know. I’m being stupid, but someone has to make the tough decisions.”
He patted Charizard’s head then turned to face Rose. Limping over to him, Leon’s demeanor turned more sullen. He knew better than to trust the faux smile. The concerned façade.
“You have what you want. Now leave Raihan alone.”
Brushing bangs aside, Rose’s hand cupped the sides of Leon’s face. “Of course. You have my word.” He pulled Leon into a hug, glaring at Raihan with vindicated victory. “Now get in the car before I change my mind.”
Leon did as he was told, trying not to think about the move Rose pulled. He ignored the hand that glided down his back, resting on his hip as Rose opened the door to the back seat. He ignored the fact that the locking mechanism was altered to keep the back seat locked from the inside. Leon refused to acknowledge anything, not wanting Rose to retaliate and hurt Raihan.
“If you weren’t in the Champion Cup, I’d have you arrested for threatening me with bodily harm and kidnapping Leon.” Rose mused, shutting the door before glaring at Raihan. “You should consider yourself lucky that Leon is as cooperative as he is.”
“That’s not cooperation, that is systematic and meticulous abuse.”
Rose did not react, as though he didn’t hear the accusation. He just walked around to the passenger side of the car as Oleana entered the driver’s seat. “If you even think about doing anything stupid. Like ‘exposing the truth’, don’t think I won’t go as far I did that day. Further if needed.”
Rose ignored Raihan’s look of disgust as he got in the car. He got what he wanted, or rather, who he wanted. And that was all that mattered. As far as Rose was concerned, Leon was finally coming home.

Every Offense, Sir, But I Never Liked You Either. Now Especially. Chapter 5
Tumblr media
“He’s gone, Sonia!”
Waking up to an empty house was the last thing Raihan wanted. Appreciation for a good night sleep was instantly shattered when Raihan realized Leon was gone. And with no word on where Leon went, he immediately started to panic.
Raihan spent the last few hours trying to locate Leon. Calling him lead to a dead end as it seemed his phone was off. And when Leon’s mother didn’t have answers, calling Sonia was his next contact. They met up outside of the Hammerlock Gym.
“What do you mean?” Sonia inquired, offering Raihan a seat. “What happened?”
Taking a deep breathe, Raihan sat down. Shoulders slumped as he leaned forward. He composed himself just enough to explain the situation.
“He was right beside me when we fell asleep last night. Despite it being a rough day, we ended it on a high note.”
Looking at his hands, Raihan remembered holding Leon as he drifted off. The warmth and joy of having Leon close and the cold fear when he opened his eyes only to find that he was alone.
“But when I woke up, he was gone.” Raihan sighed, clenching his fists.
“Call him?”
“His phone’s off.”
Nodding, Sonia glanced away. If he didn’t turn his phone on, there was no doubt Leon was screwed if he got lost. However, that wasn’t important when a panicking dragon master was in front of her.
“Did you guys have a fight?” Sonia investigated. “A really bad one?”
Raihan stood up. “No… I mean we had some concerns, but we didn’t fight.”
“Concerns?”
“He’s… Leon’s been having a rough time lately. Since Rose’s betrayal.”
“How so?”
“He’s been depressed. Lost. Hurt.” Raihan folded his arms. “He looked up to Rose and all that trust came crashing down.”
He wasn’t sure if he should tell Sonia the whole story. Leon was still pretty secretive about his time in Rose’s care. Remembering how Leon’s mom stated that it should be Leon’s choice to tell Hop, Raihan wanted to give Leon that choice with Sonia too.
As for Sonia, Raihan’s response gave her a lead. “Has Leon gone to see him since his arrest? Rose I mean.”
“Uh… no. To my knowledge, he’s been too nervous too.” More like too traumatized to. “I don’t want to force that on him now.” Not ever if Raihan had his way.
Sonia stood up, tilting her head as she folded her arms. “Call it a hunch, but something tells me that’s where he went.”
“He wouldn’t.” Raihan scoffed. He got no response from Sonia, so as he started to calm down, his stomach sank as he really thought about their conversation and Leon disappearance. “Shit… he would.”
Sonia nodded. “If he’s truly not ready to face Rose, like you said, you better hope you make it there before he does.” She glanced away. “If we’re lucky, his determination didn’t override his sense of direction.”
“Right.” He started running. “If he contacts you, let me now!”
“Will do!”
~
When he got to the penitentiary, Raihan burst through the doors. He ran up to the receptionist with a look of despair. Not letting her greet him, he immediately made his objective clear.
“Does Rose have any visitors?!”
“Pardon?”
“Is Leon visiting Rose?”
Not wishing to upset him further, the receptionist glanced at her computer. “It does look like Rose has a visitor. Arrival time was about five minutes ago and they’re waiting for him to be brought out.”
Nodding, Raihan burst through the doors beside her. Ignoring her frantic protests, he ran towards the visiting area. He hoped, prayed, that Rose wasn’t in there yet. Prayed that Leon was unharmed before Raihan lectured him about being drastic and nearsighted.
Heavy breathing was replaced with panting as he honed in on his destination. By the time he reached the room, two officers were waiting for him, ready to escort him out. Loudly sighing, Raihan readied himself for a fight.
“Move.” Raihan growled. “Now”
“We can’t let you in there, Raihan, sir.” The first guard said.
“I don’t care. Unlike you, I’m not foolish enough to let an emotionally compromised champion in with the man who caused it.” He went to grab the door when one of the officers stopped him. “I’m not risking Leon’s life for you. Especially with him.”
“He’s not there.” The second guard stated.
Raihan glared at the second guard with fangs flashing. “Don’t you dare lie to me! I know he’s here visiting Rose.”
The second guard flinched, frightened by the eighth gym leader. “I’m not. He asked for a private room and the warden allowed it.” He jumped as Raihan’s fist slammed against the wall. “Guards are in the room with him and the warden and a few guards are watching from the other side of a one way window.”
Straightening his posture, Raihan approached the second guard. His height, coupled with his dagger filled glare, was intimidating. If Leon being here wasn’t bad enough, isolating him in a room for this visit was even worse.
“Take me there. Now!”
~
To say Leon was anxious was an understatement. Coming to see his former sponsor made his hair stand on ends. Seeing him period made him cautious and fearful. Knowing he was alone made it feel gut wrecking.
He hated secrecy and sneaking, knowing Raihan didn't deserve it. However, he felt it was a necessary evil. If he was going to fave his fears, Leon had to do it alone.
Letting out a sigh, Leon sat up, folding his arms on the table. He faux smiled, holding onto fainted breath as the door opened. His frame stiffened slightly as the door closed and his guest took his seat.
“It’s good to see you, my boy.” Rose greeted. “You look well.”

Volitile Contact and Dragon Protection Chapter 3
Finally got this updated
Tumblr media
“Get. Out. Now. ”
She glared at Raihan, unamused. “I don’t think I will. I need to speak with our champion.”
“I don’t care. Get out!”
Green eyes rolled. “You’re not the only person , you know?” Fingers brushed Leon’s bangs aside causing Leon to wince. “He has responsibilities that need to be addressed.”
“That may be, but that doesn’t give you the right to come in, unannounced I might add, to terrorize Leon on your boss’ behalf.” He looked at Leon, hiding his anger for a moment before glaring at Oleana, with pure anger. “Why are you even here?”
“You threatened the chairman.” Oleana reminded with a scowl. “He’s fears that you will hurt him if he came in person. He wants to make sure Leon is okay, and,” Oleana gave Leon attention for this, “he wanted to apologize for the… misunderstanding.”
Leon shuttered from Oleana’d cold tone. Her gaze stabbed him with a threatening intent. Leon glanced at Raihan, uncomfortable with Oleana’s glare. Raihan, on the other hand, felt a spike of rage in his gut as he closed in on the bed.
“Misunder… Misunderstanding?! How is smashing Leon’s head against a wall, invading his boundaries by being a handsy shite, and threatening to kiss him a misunderstanding?”
Oleana’s expression twitched as she faced Raihan, her disinterest turning to amused disbelief. “Is that what Leon told you? You should know Leon loves his theatrics.”
Raihan hissed as he saw Leon recoil. “I saw it!”
If Oleana was surprised, she refused to show it. Instead, she opted for a smirk.
“He… he did.” Leon confirmed, finally finding the will to speak.
“Leon. Sweetie. You’re being dramatic. And even if that were true, who would believe you? Rose is your sponsor. The closest thing to a father figure you have.” She pinched Leon’s chin. “Why in the world would he want to hurt you?”
Choking on a gasp, Leon yanked away from her grip. Though that did not faze Oleana. Proven by the fact fingers started messing with Leon’s hair.
Raihan firmly grabbed Oleana’s hand and tossed it aside. “What is with you and Rose touching Leon when he is clearly disturbed?”
“He craves attention and contact and we are associates. Besides, I see how you give him attention. So why are you lecture me?”
“Because I have consent. Last I checked, you don’t. Rose, sure as hell didn’t when he threatened to kiss Leon.”
“Rose would never. He may be affectionate, but Rose always has Leon’s permission. Isn’t that right, Leon?”
Glancing at Leon, Raihan’s stomach sank. Leon’s breathing was hastening and his body shaking. His hand clenched his chest and his eyes glossed over. Raihan’s hand slid passed by Leon’s peripheral vision to see if he’d register it. When Leon didn’t, Raihan glared at Oleana.
“Either you leave, or I’ll have security make you.”
Oleana sat there motionlessly. She kept a smug grin as she and Raihan exchanged glares. Raihan’s leg shifted as Oleana stood up.
“Fine.” Oleana accepted. “I’ll leave, but Leon will be fulfilling his obligations.” She pat Leon’s head. “I’ll see you soon, sweet prince.” As she passed Raihan, she glared at him. “Remember, he belongs to Macro Cosmos and is Rose’s responsibility.”
“And you should remember he’s human and deserves respect and dignity.”
Oleana said nothing, leaving the room. She had heard the comment, but refused to acknowledge it. Her heels clicked down the hallway, silenced the further away she got.
Once Raihan knew she was gone, he sat next to Leon. A somber gasp escaped the purple haired champion as Raihan wrapped his hoodie around Leon. He hoped the weight of it and Raihan’s scent would register. And it did.
Eyes fluttered, falling on Raihan. It might not have stopped the trembling or his hasty breathing, but it gave him something, or rather, someone to focus on. Leon wanted to scream. To cry out. But noise was nonexistent.
A hand was extended out to Leon, floating just above Leon’s chest. The other hovered behind Leon. Raihan wanted to comfort Leon and help him through his panic attack.
“May I?” Raihan asked.
Leon nodded slightly. Raihan wrapped an arm around Leon’s shoulder while the other hand held the hand over Leon’s chest. He took a deep breathe as Leon rested his head on Raihan’s shoulder.
“Deep breathe.” Raihan guided. “Breathe in.” He paused as Leon did. “Breathe out.” Another pause. “Good. Again.”
Doing as he was told, Leon repeated the steps. This process continued for several minutes. With Raihan walking him through it all.
When Leon’s breathing evened out, Raihan released his hand. Keeping an arm around Leon’s shoulders, he gently hugged him as Leon hid his face beneath hair and a hand. He was holding back tears. Or so Raihan could surmise.
“She’s right.”
“What do you mean?”
“No one will believe me. Rose has power, connections, and as far as everyone knows, an upstanding businessman.” Leon sniffled. “An optimist who took a humble kid from Postwick under his wing.”
“That’s not fair.” Raihan sighed, offering Leon a box of tissues. “Galar loves you. You’re our ray of sunshine and a beloved champion. Of course they’d believe you.”
“You don’t understand. They have a plan for this. They always do. With a clean image and respect on their side, they can charismatically control the narrative.” Pulling his knees up, Leon hugged them. “And like always, they’ll find a way to sweep this under the rug.”
A shiver jolted down Raihan’s spine at his last statement. The whole thing was horrific, but ‘like always’ was sinister. It implied a pattern. Repeated behavior. Routinely instilled fear.
“You mean to tell me, this,” Raihan’s hand glided over Leon’s head, “is a regular occurrence?”
Leon tried to back pedal, fearful of Raihan’s wrath. “No. Not at all. He only did it when he was mad or drunk and wanted to teach me a lesson. Which only sparsely.”
“Lee…” Raihan held
Leon choked back a sob. “All the time. Almost on a biweekly to monthly basis. Now, biweekly for smaller offenses, heavier beatings once or twice every month or two, and the occasional unprompted attack.” He sniffled. “Every time he did the heavier ones, I was forced to lie about it if I was hospitalized. Say I tripped, overdid my training, or something along those lines.”
Raihan hugged Leon tightened, holding back anger and fear for Leon. He started to wonder how many injuries Leon obtained because of Rose. Injuries covered up by lies. However, Raihan refused to blame Leon for what happened. Given what he saw, there was no way that Leon wanted any of this. And based on his panic, he must have been too terrified to speak out. And Oleana came in to capitalize on that.
It was awful, and there was one implication that made this whole thing sicker. “What about the unwanted advances? Attempting to kiss you? How long has he been forcing that on you?”
Leon’s face shot up, shaking as he looked at Raihan. “No, that’s new. I knew he was… upset? Jealous? That I was dating you for a while now. But the advances were new. I think it’s been a month now. Though knowing my luck it’s been longer because I’ve become so numb to it. So possibly two months at most. ” His thumb lightly glided over his mouth. “The day you intervened was the first time he ever attempted to kiss me.”
It was a bittersweet relief that Rose’s advances weren’t old. It didn’t make it any less wrong, but if Raihan had to consider something positive, it would be that. If they were just starting, that meant it could be nipped in the bud much sooner.
“You have every right to be fearful.” Concern was all Raihan had in that. “Especially with him being your sponsor.”
Leon nodded. “He used to be so kind.” Hair jostled as Leon shook his head. “And unfortunately, Oleana’s right. There’s no way anyone would believe Rose would be so cruel to me. Not that it matters.” Curling his knees up, Leon hugged them. “Not after he…”
“Not after he what?”
A hand hovered over Leon’s face, covering his eyes. He tried to say something, but nothing was coming out. Raihan lightly tapped Leon’s back, running it across his back gently and comfortingly.
“What did he do?”
“He threatened Hop.”
The revelation was just above a whisper, but it echoed like a thunder.
“He said he would sponsor Hop and hurt him to teach me a lesson.” Leon’s hand got tangled in bangs as he leaned into it. “If I spoke out, Hop would get into a horrible ‘accident’. Could you imagine? Poor, sweet, innocent Hop, pulled into trouble because of his big brother.”
That was low. Even for Rose. Harming Leon was horrific enough, but knowing that he could get compliance by threatening the closest person to Leon made it so much worse.
“Is that why you sponsored him? To keep him safe?”
Leon nodded. “He was ready, so the timing was perfect. And I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I let him sponsor Hop, knowing what he was going to do.” He sighed, hiding his face in his knees. “Not that it’ll matter. He’ll still find away to make this go away. Like always.”
Not if Raihan could fight it. “Then we show them before he has the chance to.”
Leon swiftly faced Raihan, panicked. “But Hop…”
“Will be protected. All we got to do is find him, which shouldn’t be too hard since he didn’t inherit your poor sense of direction. Once we do we can…”
Catching something outside diverted his attention and train of thought causing Leon to look at him confused. But when Leon tried to look outside, Raihan cupped the side of Leon’s face and kept him from looking out the window. This would only last a moment before Raihan swiftly picked Leon up. Much to the champion’s dismay and confusion.
“What are you doing?” Leon asked, shaking.
Raihan exited the room, ignoring Leon’s failing struggle. “We’re leaving.”
Amber eyes flashed. “What? Why?”
“The doctor told me that I could discharge you today.” Raihan walked around a corner, notifying the nurse on duty that he was taking Leon home. “And with Oleana thinking she can waltz in whenever she wants, I don’t believe you’re safe here.”
“But she left.”
“She didn’t.” Raihan held Leon tighter as he hit the button for the elevator. “She’s outside right now. With him.” Eyes widened as Raihan entered the elevator and selected the floor he wanted. “I’m going to kill him.”
“No! Don’t!”
“Why not?” Raihan exited the elevator. “I told him not to come here. Give me one good reason.”
“I want to go home. With you. I don’t want you arrested for battery.”
That was enough to make Raihan pause for a moment. In his anger and concern, he hadn’t thought about that. And in Leon’s current mental state, he probably couldn’t handle the stress or trauma of an arrest. Entering the parking lot, Raihan released Flygon, planning to have the dragon fly them home.
“Okay.” Raihan sighed, setting Leon down. “I won’t do anything drastic.” He grabbed the sides of Leon’s face and lightly kissed his forehead. “But he’s not going to get away with this. I’m not giving you back to him.”
“But he will come with me.”
The sudden additional voice made Leon jump as Raihan held him. Turning, Raihan held Leon behind him. They had been approached by the last person he wanted near them. Rose.

Every Offense, Sir, but I Never Liked You Either. Now Especially. Chapter 4
Tumblr media
“No way! I’m not letting you near him. You’re not ready.”
Now standing, Raihan towered over Leon. There was no way in hell he was about to let Leon get near Rose. That was exactly what the man wanted, and Raihan wasn’t about to let that happen. Leon may have been getting stronger each day, but Raihan knew if he threw Leon into the Pyroar’s den now, Rose would eat that up. If he was willing to crack Raihan’s resolve, Arceus knows how he would get into Leon’s head. The manipulation tactics he’d use having perfected them over years.
Leon stood up with Raihan. “All due respect, Raihan, but I don’t give a damn. Ready or not, he crossed a line.” He winced thinking about it. One part angry, one part frightened. “He wants submission. Control. And I’ll be damned if I let him hurt you to get to me.”
Visibly shaking now, Leon’s hands were clenching Raihan’s hoodie. If he kept this up, Raihan knew a panic attack was imminent. Hands clamped on Leon’s shoulders holding him firmly enough to grab Leon’s attention, but not firmly to the point Raihan would hurt him.
“You need to calm down.”
“Don’t tell me to calm down! He lied to you. Degraded you. Made you feel like shite because he’s targeting me! How can I let that slide?”
“I know, but I can’t let you crumble because of him. I won’t let him give you a panic attack because he’s obsessed with keeping you to himself!” Raihan released Leon, turning his back to him. “That’s why I didn’t tell you the day I saw him. I couldn’t…”
Arms wrapped around Raihan from behind as Leon buried his face in his hood. “Why did you see him alone? I’m not mad that you saw him. A little sad that you felt the need to do this alone, but I know you were just looking out for me.” He hugged Raihan tighter. “But I need to know why.”
A simple and reasonable request. One that could be answered honestly. However, it was more relieving to know that Leon wasn’t angry at Raihan. Not that he didn’t feel guilty about hiding it from Leon to begin with.
“Because I wanted to hear him say it. He’s already in jail, so it wasn’t like he had anything to lose.” He shuffled around so he could face Leon. “I wanted to see if he felt the slightest bit remorseful.” Raihan held the sides of Leon’s face. “But he wasn’t. He was smug about it. Almost proud of it despite denying it.”
”Of course.” Leon sighed as though expecting as much. “Maybe he would admit to it if I approached him about it.”
Raihan shook his head. “I can’t let you do that. Not now.”
“Why not?” Leon pulled away from Raihan. “I need to see him. For reigniting the Darkest Day, and especially for this.”
Raihan took a step towards Leon. “I don’t trust him with you. You’re still traumatized from the abuse and his betrayal.”
“I don’t care,” Leon took a step back, “that doesn’t matter when he knowingly hurt you. I can’t… I won’t let him get away with this.”
“I can’t lose you to him! I can’t let him or the nightmares win!”
Leon froze, alarmed. He wasn’t expecting to hear that. Not once did he notice nightmares. He hadn’t even been disturbed when Raihan did.
Raihan took the momentary shook to hug Leon. The sound of guilt in Raihan’s breathe was noticeable and shaky as he cupped the back of Leon's head. A scared gasp brushed passed Leon’s ear.
“I was still processing the abuse when I saw Rose. It might not have been my trauma, but I was hurting for you. Your pain plagued my mind. Your suffering my heart.” Raihan hissed. “But ever since I talked to Rose, I’ve been having nightmares. Nightmares of you being tortured and tormented. Beaten and violated.” A choking sound escaped Raihan. “I know they are just nightmares, but I know he has done that to you. That it will happen if I let you near him.”
Raihan’s voice went out with a cry. He couldn’t bear to look at Leon, ashamed to show that he was afraid. At the same time, he didn’t care if Leon hated him for his reaction. For showing weakness. He needed to hold Leon. To know he was there. Safe.
Eyes frantically vibrated as Leon processed what Raihan told him. The sudden emotional explosion was surprising, but Leon was more concerned with what caused it. He had been sitting on this for weeks and Leon was concerned. Arms wrapped around Raihan, holding him tight.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Leon sighed.
“Because someone has to be strong for the both of us. I have to be strong for the both of us.”
Nostrils flared as Leon sighed. Admirable as it was, it hurt. Leon did not expected Raihan to be strong for them. He didn’t want Raihan to suppress his emotions for them. It made Leon feel guilty about it. Even if he never expect Raihan to make such a sacrifice.
“You don’t have to be strong for me.” He lightly tightened his hug. “I’m sorry I didn’t realize you were suffering sooner.” He sighed, lightly kissing Raihan’s cheek. “It’s okay. Let it out. I’m here.”
Raihan crumbled, crying out. Releasing a wave of built up agony with each breathe.
~
Lying awake, Leon was lost in thought as he watched the celling fan spin. He couldn’t sleep, but not from a lack of trying. He wanted to make sure Raihan slept through the night undisturbed.
At the same time, he truly was bothered by Rose. The terror in his heart pounded like a drum. If Raihan forved himself to stay strong for them, Leon was scared for the both of them. Even with him in jail, Leon was afraid that Rose was coming for them. For him.
And now that Rose had poisoned Raihan’s mind with doubt, fear, and regret, it was all too real. Rolling around, Leon curled up beside Raihan. Watching Raihan’s rested breathing, he lightly brushed strands of hair.
Raihan unconsciously rolled towards Leon, an arm lying over him. He didn’t stir from his slumber, which Leon appreciated. But when Raihan started wincing and gasping, he knew the nightmares were upon him.
A hand landed on the side of Raihan’s face as a thumb gently circled along Raihan’s cheekbone. Leon quietly muttered assurance as he did. As Raihan’s arms unconsciously wrapped around Leon, Leon’s hand got tangled in Raihan’s hair.
This seemed to calm Raihan’s slumber as his expression and breathe softened. Sighing, Leon smiled, holding back tears. Seeing Raihan in pain stung and he wondered if Raihan felt like this when Leon was having his night terrors. The only difference being Leon knowing what was wrong in advance.
It made Leon feel guilty. That his pain and turmoil was caused by Leon’s past. By Leon’s handler. By Leon’s presence. Leon couldn’t let this continue on any longer. Not if he could stop it.
“I’m sorry.” Leon lightly kissed Raihan’s forehead. “So… sorry. I’ll make this up to you. It’s my turn to be strong.”
By the time morning came, Leon was gone without a trace.

Every Offense, Sir, but I Never Liked You Either. Now Especially. Chapter 3
An update as I work on chapter 4.
Tumblr media
A whimper escaped Leon as tears dripped down his face. His appointment with the therapist opened some old wounds. Trauma that he had buried for a while. It was progress, or so he was told. Shame sunk in, despite the therapist stating it wasn’t Leon’s fault. She affirmed that it wasn’t his fault that Rose abused his power to get Leon to do as he said. That he was a child when it started and he had every right to be scared.
Leon needed to hear this. He needed to vent. Even though he felt ashamed. He was here for help and that was exactly what the therapist was going to do.
Yet, these old wounds were not the only things bothering him. Though he did not tell the therapist about it. This was something Leon felt he had to address on his own.
Raihan had grown oddly anxious since his meeting. He seemed bothered, melancholy even. Leon tried talking to Raihan, yet, he would not tell Leon what was wrong. Instead, he gave Leon a saddened smile, hoping to ignore whatevervwas bugging him. He constantly told Leon was okay, feeling more concerned with Leon’s pain.
Despite this, Raihan was no less loving or supportive. And though hugs felt somber, they were still warm and comforting. Especially when the hug he gave Leon the day if the meeting felt frightened. As though something had disturbed him. Frightened him even.
That was two weeks ago, and Leon was trying to be hopeful. However, as much as he wanted to help, Leon knew nothing about the meeting. Who Raihan met or what was discussed. Leon tried to rationalize it since any attempt to ask Raihan produced nothing.
Leon, feeling that it could have been sinister, also tried to consider that was not as malicious as he was imagining. Perhaps Raihan was given bad news that he wanted to process alone before telling Leon about it. At the same time, maybe it was sinister. Maybe he got into a fight with someone. Threatened him to the point that it frightened Raihan, which isn’t easy to do. Whatever the case, Leon felt a sickening feeling in his stomach and he couldn’t stop worrying.
Leaving the office, Leon rubbed his eyes. He didn’t want Raihan to see his tears, not wanting the Hammerlocke gym leader to fret. Leon met Raihan in the waiting room, a tired smile on his face.
“How’d it go?” Raihan inquired, lightly hugging him.
“Good,” Leon sighed, “I got a lot out, but it’s going to be a long journey. My next appointment is in two weeks.”
Nodding, Raihan let out a sigh. He guided Leon to the car. The ride home was swift and scenic. Once they got home, Raihan helped get Leon settled in, getting a good look at him as they entered the living room.
Hands clamped on the side of Leon’s face. They gently held Leon's face, thumbs lightly rubbing under Leon’s eyes, right along where his tears once were.
“It’s okay to cry.” Raihan assured.
“I know.” Leon shook his head. “I just don’t want you to see me so vulnerable. Weak.”
“Hey,” Raihan lightly hugged Leon, “it’s okay to be vulnerable. And that doesn’t make you weak.”
Leon hugged Raihan back. He welcomed Raihan’s scent, closing his eyes and humming. A few tears fell, but Leon didn’t make a sound. Being near him made Leon feel comfortable. And with how Raihan had been acting lately, Leon wanted to cherish it. He let out a soft sigh as he melted in Raihan’s touch as he ran his hand through Leon’s hair.
“I’m sorry.” Raihan apologized with a shutter. “If anyone’s weak, it’s me.” His hand cupped the back of Leon’s head. “Weak, stupid, and horrible.”
Leon’s head shifted. “Don’t say that. You are none of those things.” He shuffled around, backing up slightly so he could look into Raihan’s teal eyes. “I know something is bothering you.” His hands cupped the sides of Raihan’s face. “What’s wrong?”
Hands moved to Leon’s upper arms, holding them gently. “It doesn’t matter.” Raihan shook his head. “You can’t be burdened with my failure.”
“Please, Raihan. It matters to me.”
Raihan said nothing clenching his teeth. Lost in thought, his mind wouldn’t let go of words spoken. Insidious truths. Leon gasped as Raihan’s grip tightened slightly. He heard Raihan mumble something under his breathe.
“Raihan? Please, talk to me.”
”I didn’t mean to…” The words in his brain scattered as Raihan tried to find the right ones. “Why didn’t I...”
Twirling out of Raihan’s hold, Leon grabbed Raihan's hand and guided him to the couch. Sitting down, in Leon’s mind, would be helpful. It would keep Raihan grounded and not feel like he was about to fall over.
“I’m here.” Leon reminded, holding Raihan’s hand. “What’s bugging you?”
Raihan tightly held Leon’s hand. Not enough to hurt Leon, but tight enough to feel that Leon was there.
“I… I saw Rose.” Raihan winced, sensing Leon’s shock. “I wanted answers. For us. For you.” His grip tightened slightly. “He denied everything, and I know he was lying, but…”
Shifting slightly, his free hand held the side of Leon’s face. Raihan craved Leon’s presence, needing to feel that Leon was there. Especially if he was going to tell Leon the truth.
“But he said I was responsible by proxy. Because I never noticed it sooner and never beat, he said I was at fault too.” Clenching his teeth, he continued. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think he’s right.” Freeing his other hand, Raihan clamped the other side of Leon’s face. “Out of everyone in the League, I should have known. If not when we were rivals and friends, then when we started dating.” Raihan shook his head. “I know Rose is trying to get in my head, but the more I think about it, the more I realize that he has a point. I’m supposed to keep you safe. Love you and be there for you. But because of my negligence and ignorance, I let you suffer for years.”
Spitting it out felt awful. Like swallowing a bitter tasting pill. However, now that it was out, there was no going back. Despite wanting to wait a little longer. Leon knew and that was that.
Yet, the expression Leon’s face wore made the whole thing much, much worse. Dilated pupils froze as a grimace stretched across his face. His frame stiffened then shivered. His frame held a light shaking motion as amber eyes finally blinked.
“Leon?”
Leon grabbed Raihan’s wrists. “He’s trying to isolate me.” He tried to keep a smile, despite the somber tone in his voice. “I need to see him. He’s not going to get away with this.”

Volatile Contact and Dragon Protection Chapter 2
Update: This will be five chapters instead of three.
Tumblr media
Standing between Leon and a detective, Raihan protectively stood in front of the bed. Leon was curled up in a corner, too alert for comfort, as amber eyes refused to close. On top of that, his head was throbbing beneath a fresh set of bandages. Blue eyes dug into the detective like spears.
“No cameras. No press. No visitors.” Raihan growled. “I will not have him gawked at like some spectacle.”
“You’ll have to excuse me, Raihan… sir, but it isn’t everyday that the champion is rushed to the hospital.” The detective stated matter of factly. “And based on what I’m seeing, something horrible happened.”
Raihan folded his arms with a snide smirk. “You don’t say? And here I thought he was having an allergic reaction to concrete.”
“I could deal without the sarcasm. This is serious.”
“With all due respect sir, look at him.” He motioned to Leon. “Does this look like someone who can do anything remotely traumatic right now?”
Leon winced, sobbing and writhing in his spot. Raihan softened his stance, sitting on the bed. He offered Leon a hand for solace, but Leon refused. Instead, he hugged himself tighter, turning his face away from them, chocking on a sob. Raihan sighed as he withdrew his hand.
“Shock is one hell of a drug, and trauma the worst aftershock.” Sholders tensed as Raihan watched Leon flinch. “He can’t go forward with any kind of investigation right now.”
The detective was silent, processing in Leon’s state and Raihan’s statement. Leon never once acknowledged the detective, shaking. The detective didn’t need to see Leon’s face, which was securely hidden beneath his arms and a flurry of hair, to know Raihan had a point. Despite wanting to get Leon justice, it wouldn’t amount to anything if Leon was too scared to proceed. Heaven forbid he fave his attacker head on in this state.
The detective sighed, body relaxing as he huffed. “Help our champion.”
“You have my word.” Raihan promised, not that he needed to be asked that.
“I’ll try to keep this under wraps and on file for as long as possible.” He handed Raihan his card. “When he is ready to pursue this, feel free to call me.”
Raihan took the card and slid it into his pocket. “Much appreciated.”
The detective nodded, excusing himself. The nurse would swap places with him, checking in on Leon. She approached Leon. When she did, Leon broke contact with his defenses, looking at her with fear.
“Can I change your bandages?” She asked as softly as possible. Leon frantically shook his head. “Please? We don’t want the wound to get infected.”
She went to touch the bandage, attempting to be as gentle as possible. When she did, Leon let out a yelp and an audible cry. He pulled away, scooting closer to Raihan unknowingly, tears forming. The nurse deflated, disheartened and sympathetic.
As Leon collided with Raihan, he jolted, pulling away from Raihan and standing up. The sudden rush from standing up caused a wave of dizziness and nausea. Along with the panic and exhaustion, Leon stumbled forward, losing consciousness. Raihan caught him, picking him up and lying him on the bed. He looked at the nurse, who was frazzled and scared.
“It’s okay.” He assured. “It’s not your fault. You didn’t do this to him.” Referring to Rose. “Let’s get that bandage changed.”
~
Purple hair messily draped over tired eyes and shoulders as Leon leaned against the wall. An untouched tray of food sat on the table sitting beside the bed. Raihan, concerned and unamused stood over Leon.
“You need to eat.” Raihan softly reminded.
Leon shook his head. Sighing, Raihan hoped on the bed. He shuffled around, avoiding Leon’s bubble as he got situated. Crossing his legs, Raihan kept his attention on Leon.
“Then let’s talk.”
“I don’t want to.” Leon sighed.
He was talking more. That was a start. However, as much as Raihan would love to avoid the topic, for Leon’s sake especially, it couldn’t be. Not after what Raihan saw.
“I was there, Leon. I can’t forget what I saw. Nor can I let this ruin you.” His hands clenched hard, fangs barring. “I’m not going to force you to talk about everything, but I’m not going to let you suffer either.”
His rage grew just thinking about it. The way Rose held Leon. The violence. The absolute fear on Leon’s face. He wanted to punch a wall, he was just that angry. But he knew if he did, Leon would shut down. A sob broke Raihan’s train of thought.
“I’m sorry.” Leon cried. “It’s all my fault.”
Leon grabbed his arms hard, digging his nails into them. Flinching, Raihan scooted closer, much to Leon’s dismay. Though Leon did not show any signs that he wanted space.
“No, no, no.” Raihan, shaken, grabbing Leon’s hands with a soft apology. “Don’t apologize. It’s not your fault. If it’s anyone’s fault, it’s his.”
Leon violently shook his head. “I let it happen.”
“You didn’t.” Reflexively, Raihan reached to cradle the side of Leon’s face, abruptly stopping as he reminded himself Rose did the same. “You fought back.”
“But… I…”
Leon couldn’t finish his sentence before he started sobbing again. Raihan’s heart sank. One of Leon’s love languages, and comforts, was hugs. But as much as he wanted to give Leon that, Raihan knew he couldn’t right now. Not after Rose chose to abuse it.
“We can save this conversation for later.” Raihan advised, offering Leon a tissue. “I’m not going to stress you out.”
Leon took the tissue, blowing his nose. After he pitched it, he grabbed Raihan’s hand, holding it tight. He then gave Raihan a nod, letting him know that he understood what he said.
“I do have something that may make you smile.” Pulling out a Pokéball, releasing a Goomy. “I’m sure you remember him.”
Leon smirked as the Goomy let out a yawn and took a seat on Leon’s lap. Sensing something was wrong, Goomy nudged against Leon’s hand, asking for pets. Leon chucked, caving to Goomy’s commands.
“He’s so cute.” Leon complimented, hugging Goomy.
“Almost as cute as you.” Raihan replied, smirking when he saw a light shade of red on Leon’s face. “I hatched him a month ago. He’s not ready for training yet, but he’s too charming to keep at the gym.”
A chuckle escaped Leon as Goomy started to hop around play. “He’s certainly energetic.”
~
With Leon falling asleep, Raihan left to get coffee for the both of them. The nurse, the only soul outside of the doctor he trusted, agreed to monitor Leon while he was gone. She knew it was important for Raihan to get a little space and some food. It gave him a moment to recollect himself. Decompress from his own emotional turmoil.
It also gave Raihan time to notify Hop and Leon’s mother. He didn’t go too in depth about what happened, not wanting to scare them, but they deserved to know that Leon was hurt. He let them know that Leon was the victim of an attack, but he was on the mend. They could visit if they wanted to, but were made aware that Leon was pretty skittish. So there was a chance that Leon could react.
They agreed to visit once Leon was calm and ready for visitors. It was for the best. For everyone’s sake. Leon wouldn’t want to scare them. There was no way Hop could bear to see Leon in this state, worse if he knew the extent of the damage. And it would break their mother’s heart to see him like this.
As he got closer to the room, the sounds of talking sparked Raihan’s curiosity. That was either a fast nap or the nurse needed to check something.
“I’m back” Raihan greeted with a wide grin and blinking.
Playful joy turned to sour rage, as he opened his eyes. Styrofoam cups were crushed, spilling coffee over Raihan and the floor. An unwanted guest in the form of Oleana. She sat on the bed, a hand on the trembling shoulder of Leon, who was sitting up, eyes pleading for help.
“You're such a stubborn pest.” Oleana greeted.

Volitile Contact and Dragon Protection
This idea spawned from Champion Night Terrors and Every Offense, Sir, but I Never Liked You Either. Now Especially. It’s a way for me to kind of try something out. A scene. A branch off/what if.
The plan is for a three chapter thing. And as always, link to the AO3 page at the end.
CW: Mild Violence and unwanted contact. Rose is a Jerk and Raihan’s not having it.
Tumblr media
What was he witnessing? Raihan went looking for Leon, wanting to meet up with Leon after a practice match with Melony. They were going to grab dinner then go stargazing on top of the Hammerlock Gym. A simple evening of relaxed bliss.
Beating Leon to the locker room, Raihan decided to catch him in the runway. He didn’t have the patience to wait for Leon to get to the locker room, despite knowing Leon would be changing regardless. All Raihan expected was to catch his boyfriend, a pinch tired and plenty sweaty. What he found was not that. In fact it was much more sinister.
Leon, was, in fact, in the hallway, but he was not alone. Nor was the air pleasant. Leon was backed against the wall, his sponsor, Rose, cornering him. It was so surreal and unexpected that Raihan was frozen in place.
“Please… I have to go.” Leon requested. “I have plans.”
“With that arrogant dragon leader, I know.” Rose recalled. “You know I don’t like him. He’s no good for you and is nothing more than a fleeting distraction. Besides, I need you at the tower. We have a few things to go over.”
“I can’t.” Leon tried pushing Rose back. “And you can’t tell me who I can spend my time with.”
Pushing Rose did very little as the man was not backing down. Since that didn’t work, Leon tried to squirm out of the situation. Away from Rose. Yet, Rose refused to let him. Sneaking through an opening resulted in Leon’s arm being grabbed and Leon’s frame being slammed against the wall. It wouldn’t stop Leon for trying, but it did make it harder.
Impatience grew as did Rose’s voice. “Enough!”
Leon flinched at the response, his frame dipping. Both hands landed on the sides of his face as Rose forced Leon to look at him. Hands tried to pry Rose’s off of Leon, but his head was slammed against the wall, which stopped Leon’s struggling.
It also made Raihan’s stomach sink, snapping him out of the horrified daze he was in. This was cruel. Plain and simple. He slowly and silently inched closer to the duo, not wanting Rose to harm Leon the moment he saw Raihan.
“You will cancel those plans and come to Wyndon.” Rose ordered. Leon squeaked as Rose dragged his face close enough for Rose to whisper in his ear. “I’d hate to have to punish you again, but I guess I have to.”
Leon winced. “N… no.”
Fingers ran through Leon’s hair. “We can’t damage that face of yours. It’s too valuable. Too mesmerizing.” His hands moved around Leon’s neck. “Your voice, on the other hand, could be silenced.” He tighten his grip to prove his point, closing Leon’s airways long enough for the champion to struggle. “Or maybe,” a hand moved to the bottom of Leon’s chin, “I could see what all the fuss is about. See what people love about you. See why he loves you. As your sponsor, I should know these things.”
Golden eyes widely opened. He tried to move his face away from Rose, but Rose’s grip stayed firm, moving to the side of his face and latched onto purple hair. This lead to struggling and Rose’s free hand grabbing Leon’s throat, chocking him slightly. Rose began closing whatever gap between them left when a hand landed on Rose’s shoulder.
“Or you could let him go.”
Raihan yanked Rose off of Leon, punching him. Not expecting it, the man stumbled back as Raihan approached Leon. The man before Raihan was stone cold. His mouth was opened slightly and his eyes were glued to the nothingness around them. Leon’s shoulders slumped beneath his cape and not a sound escaped his throat.
Raihan wanted to grab Leon, hold him, but he couldn’t. Not after Rose touched Leon like that. Raihan could take the cape off of Leon, lifting a weight of his shoulders and getting him to respond just enough for them to leave.
“I’m going to take this off of you, okay?” Raihan sighed, dislodging the cape from Leon.
A twitch surged through Leon, though he remained unchanged. He stood in place, zoning out. He was in shook. Unwavering shook.
Throwing the cape over his shoulder, Raihan contemplated his next move. He seriously considered grabbing Leon, throwing him over his shoulder, and running. He would apologize for it later. After what felt like an eternity, Leon’s hand landed on his shoulder, but before Raihan could react, Leon pushed him aside.
Thud
A fist, meant for Raihan, slammed against Leon’s face. Blood flew out of Leon’s mouth, as realization set in. Raihan was horrified, while Rose seemed stunned and almost… remorseful.
Ready to retaliate, Raihan noticed motion from Leon. His frame was violently shaking, his legs buckling. Reacting first, Raihan picked Leon up before he could hit the floor, carrying him bridal style. It was then that Raihan realized the back of Leon’s head was bleeding. No doubt caused by his head getting slammed against the wall.
“How, fucking, dare you!” Raihan growled, glaring at Rose, who was trying to recompose himself. “What’s wrong with you? He’s the champion. You’re sponsor, damn it.”
“You have no business here.” Rose lectured.
“I have every right to be here! I love him, damn it! Which is infinitely more than I can say about you!” He looked at Leon, who was unconscious and breathing erratically. “I’m taking him to a hospital. If you even think about following me, I’m not holding back. Not even for Leon’s sake. And if you even think about coming to the hospital… or if I so much as see you crossing the street to get there, it’s on sight.”
He wanted to scream, rip into Rose, but Leon’s condition was much more important. Turning his back to Rose, Raihan ran out of the stadium. Leaving Rose behind, he knew he didn’t care about what happened to Rose. Not that he cared to begin with. Leon was all that mattered right now. That was his priority.

Every Offense, Sir, But I Never Liked You Either Chapter 2
The second chapter. I’m working on the third, but uploading the second here was long overdue.
Tumblr media
“Sorry, sir, but Leon isn’t in a good condition to be seeing you.” Raihan faux apologized, crossing one leg over the other. “So you’re stuck with me.”
Rose leaned forward, arms resting on the table as they cushioned his chin. “Oh? My condolences. Is he unwell?”
“Between seeing his sponsor igniting the Darkest Day, taking a hit from Eternatus, the ensuing hospital visit, and night terrors, I’d say he’s pretty messed up.”
Tension thickened as silence washed over them. As Rose processed the news, Raihan studied the man. Despite the gravity of his crimes, Rose was looking surprisingly well. The man appeared unchanged outside of a few new grey hairs and the penitentiary prisoner uniform.
“I’ll be sure to send him an apology and my sympathies.” Rose stated. “Which is better for him in this state, a call or letter?”
“Neither will be necessary.” Raihan denied. “He’s healing.”
“I’m sure he’ll need his sponsor to help. I practically raised him.”
Raihan rolled his eyes. “Raised a fist to him more like it.”
An eyebrow sharply raised. “Excuse you? Care to elaborate?”
“Cut the crap, Rose. I know you abused him.”
“Abuse? I have no idea-“
“Tell me, was the closet really beneficial? Or smacking him whenever he didn’t present the way you wanted?”
Any faux pleasantries faded as Rose sat up and crossed his arms. His glare hardened and darkened. All the while Raihan remained unchanged, unamused and matter of fact.
“I never really liked you.” Rose stiffly stated. “Your rude, self absorbed, and unprofessional.”
“Every offense, sir, but I never liked you either.” Raihan admitted, ignoring the jabs. “Now, especially.”
“Then why are you here?”
“For Leon. And I think we deserve answers.”
Rose scoffed. “As sentimental as that is, that’s not going to happen. If I’m going to speak to anyone about anything, it’s Leon.”
“Not going to happen. Not when you laid a hand on him.” Raihan leaned forward. “Why?”
Rose was silent. His glare stayed strong as frustration and annoyance built. Yet, Raihan did not let that bother him. He couldn’t afford to. If he could get a minuet amount of reason, that would be enough. Anything for clarity.
“You don’t realize how important his championship was. None of you do.” Rose lectured. “All Leon had to do was do as he was told. The people love him, he just needed refining and guidance. Someone to teach him that his life belongs to the people. To his sponsor.”
“Sponsor or not, that does not give you the excuse to hit him. It sounds to me that you wanted a submissive pawn.”
Rose chuckled, a low growl vibrating. “Did he tell you that?” He didn’t wait for a response. “Leon exaggerates. I might have gotten loud with him or shoved him when he went the wrong way, but I never hit him. If I did, there was nothing I could do to stop him from exposing it.”
Raihan knew better. He knew Rose was lying. Leon’s terrors weren’t lies. And Rose trying to deny that, infuriated him.
“He’s terrified of you!” Raihan argued.
“He should be terrified of you! If I’m as abusive as you claim, you are just as responsible as I in this.”
Raihan winced, not expecting that response. He wasn’t sure if the accusation should piss him off more or intimidate him. Raihan had no idea what was going on behind closed doors. Not until recently. A hand flashed before Raihan, signaling an interruption from Rose.
“If what he said were true, you allowed the abuse to continue by not defeating him.” Rose insinuated. “If you were so concerned with him being abused, you should have beaten him. Before his actual loss.”
“I didn’t-“
“It doesn’t matter if you didn’t know. You’ve been exclusive for how long? A year? Eighteen months? You're telling me that in all that time, he only now brings up that something happened? You are either naïve or Leon’s a damn good liar.”
“He’s not a liar.” Raihan debunked. “Last I checked, he wasn’t the one hiding the fact he wanted to cause the Darkest Day. And he has no reason to lie about something like that.” Raihan shook his head, trying not to get riled up. “You hurt him. You need to acknowledge it and tell me why.”
“If anyone needs to acknowledge anything, it’s you. Forget the abuse, which you would be culpable in it if it did happen, but you ruined him.”
“I did-“
“He had a future ahead of him, Raihan.” Rose interrupted. “A championship that paid well, connections to people across the globe. He would have been Galar’s savior had he just followed the plan.” Rose stood up, asserting what power he had left. “But then he met you. Your rivalry was cute at first, but the moment you started dating, I knew you would ruin him. Make him soft and want to abandon everything he worked so hard for.” He shook his head. “Because of you, he denied his destiny. He became weak.”
Raihan stood up. He is not weak. Denying your demands proves that. And he deserves love, damn it.”
“Not when it’s a cocky, self absorbed, lazy, half wit of a dragon master.” Rose’s expression shifted slightly to a more softer, reminiscing. His glare, now on the table, seemed to be elsewhere, thinking of something else. “He may deserve love, but I would have found him someone better than you.” His glare turned cold as he looked at Raihan. “And I will when he comes to his senses and comes crawling back to me.”
Raihan growled. He wasn’t going to let Rose get to him. He wasn’t. Yet, Rose’s words were starting to get to him. It stung hearing this man, who Raihan saw as respectable despite his disdain, talk down to Raihan like this. Not to mention the near possessive tone he seemed to have when talking about Leon. Even if Rose wasn’t admitting to the abuse, Raihan was disturbed.
Seeing that he wasn’t getting anywhere with a reason, Raihan decided it was a lost cause. For now at least. He turned his back to Rose, excusing himself. He stopped at the door, nodding to the guard that he was ready to go. As the guard opened the door as Raihan glared back at Rose.
“I will never let you have him.” Raihan promised.
~
Raihan entered the house in a cold sweat. Processing the meeting set in during the entire journey home. Rose was cunning, he would admit, and Rose’s need to put the blame on him, shook him. His body was shaking and he couldn’t help but wonder: was Rose right? Did Raihan ruin Leon’s future?
Shaking his head, Raihan trying to deny it. Rose was trying to get in his head. Make him feel like trash. When Raihan wanted to believe that wasn’t the case.
Yet, there was some truth in Rose’s words, hating to admit it. Raihan had let the abuse go on. Even though he had no clue it was going on, he had prolonged it by not defeating him. By not noticing anything wrong sooner.
Raihan didn’t cast blame on Leon. Couldn’t if he tried. It was far from Leon’s fault. From what Raihan knew, Leon was too scared to say anything. He had been under Rose’s thumb for so long that Leon’s silence was reasonable. And any scars or bruises were hidden well.
However, Raihan still felt terrible. As Leon’s only rival, and now, his boyfriend, he should have been more observant. He should have picked up on it sooner.
Raihan leaned against the wall, one hand covering his face as the other held his arm. He felt nauseous as his stomach twisted. At the same time, all Raihan could think about was Rose’s observation. He was so lost in thought that he hadn’t heard footsteps.
Leon rounded the corner with a wide smile. “Welcome… Raihan? What’s wrong?”
Concerned, Leon ran over to Raihan, tapping his arm. Leon tried to get a better look at Raihan’s face, wanting to get a read on his emotions. Instead, Leon was grabbed, pulled into a desperate hug. It was tight, but not too tight that Leon couldn’t breathe. He felt a hand holding the back of his head, and Leon could have swore he felt Raihan’s fingers shaking.
Whatever was bugging Raihan must have been major. Yet, Leon wasn’t going to interrogate him in the moment. Instead, he wrapped his arms around Raihan’s torso, hugging him.

Public Display of Affection? More Like Personalized Dragon Affection
Yes, tis my attempt to make a pun out of PDA. But a funny punny. Truerivalshipping is still helping me out of a writing slump. This time with Sonia, Ash, and Goh popping in to say hi, Hop being sick, and Leon worrying.
Tumblr media
“Sorry I missed the rest of your match.” Leon apologized. “Mom called me.”
Sighing, Leon leaned against Raihan. He hugged the dragon master, melancholic and deflated. It was a match Leon didn’t want to miss. It was to see who would qualify for a tag team tournament at the end of the month. The winner, got to team up with Leon. Which Raihan did, but Leon wished he could have seen the battle all the way through.
“It’s okay.” Raihan assured with a smile as he pat Leon’s head. “We both knew I was going to win anyways. I couldn’t let some pink haired punk with a Wobbuffet steal my partner.”
“Still… I should have been there to cheer you on.”
“Pfft, you can pay for dinner this time and we’ll be even.” Raihan chuckled, before shifting his focus elsewhere. “Besides, it’s your ma, so I completely understand. Is she okay?”
Leon sighed, tilting his head. “Mom’s fine. Hop… not so much.”
“Oh? What’s wrong with our little champ?”
“Pneumonia. Mom says he got it real bad.”
That made Raihan wince. Returning the hug, Raihan exerted sympathy and concern. “Will he be okay?”
“He hasn’t been hospitalized… yet, but the doctor said he would have if they waited another day or two. They prescribed bedrest, fluids, and some antibiotics. And if he gets worse, bring him to the hospital.” Leon sighed, hiding his face in Raihan’s coat. “I’m worried.”
He couldn’t blame Leon for that. Being a champion kept him away from his family on a regular basis, so worrying was natural. Besides, Leon always made an effort to be there for Hop despite the hectic schedule of championship.
“What caused it?”
“Mom says he got caught up in a storm while training in the wild area.” Leon relayed. “Which probably did, but I think depression and stress worsened it. That Bede fellow did a number on him after a battle. Said some pretty nasty things.”
“I see.”
Raihan vaguely remembered Bede. The kid was Rose’s recent choice for a sponsorship. Though it would seem that it didn’t really last as long as Bede hoped. The kid certainly had an air of arrogance and pride to him. One that the kid could hopefully change as he got older.
Not that it made how he treated Hop right, just what Raihan had observed and inferred. Hop’s enthusiasm and determination was a lot like Leon’s. An acquired taste for some, but ultimately harmless and admirable.
“Why don’t we go visit him?” Raihan offered, stroking Leon’s hair. “I have one last challenger today and my last before the tournament is in two days. We can grab dinner on the way.”
Leon nodded. “I’d like that. Thank you.”
~
Emerging from the gym, the duo were holding hands. Leon was grinning widely and proudly. Raihan had beaten the challenger without much issue. Saving for a Machamp and Froslass that gave his Sandaconda and Gigolath a run for their money.
Waiting at the train station, Leon rested his head against Raihan’s shoulder. Sitting on a bench, they took a moment to breathe. They decided to hit the diner in Motostoke before catching the next train to Postwick.
From there, they’d check up on Hop and stay the night. Leon’s mother knew they were on the way. Which she promised to keep a secret in order for them to surprise him.
Amber eyes flashed, as he watched for the next train to come in, realizing something. “Oh, I almost forgot.” Leon kissed Raihan’s cheek. “That’s for you win in the exhibition match.”
“You sneaky little Vulpix.” Raihan chuckled, shifting slightly. “The least you can do is give me two. Double battles and all.”
Grabbing Leon, Raihan set the champion on his lap, stealing his hat in the process. Cupping the side of Leon’s face, using the other to hold him in place, Raihan went in deep. Legs bent as Leon welcomed the kiss. Amber eyes closed, ignoring the world around him, including the train coming into the station.
A small gasp escaped Leon as Raihan freed him, kissing him again. This time on the forehead. Giggling, Leon stretched out, legs resting on the bench as he leaned back, using Raihan’s arm as a cushion. His face was now an adorable shade of red as he stared at Raihan fondly.
“I love you, you know that?” Raihan asked.
Leon nodded. “The feeling’s mutual.”
The sound of a throat clearing distracted them as they realized they were being watched. Sonia, wearing a soft smile, stood beside Ash and Goh, who were curiously confused. Scooting off of Raihan’s lap, Leon sat next to his partner with a playful smile.
Ash and Goh had never seen them acting this way before. They had such a competitive dynamic that seeing them so domestic was odd. Not that Leon nor Raihan were looking to hide their relationship. It was just a first for the young duo.
“So you see, dragons don’t normally like knights.” Sonia playfully narrated. “But every now and then, they fall in love with the most charming and pure of knightly princes.
“And I’m stealing this knightly prince for a nightly adventure.” Raihan stated, playing along. “Catching a train?”
“Yeah. Showed the boys the mural in Stow on Side and they offered to join me in my journey to Hulbury. I am dropping off a little gift to Nessa.”
Nodding, then stretching, Raihan stood up. He helped Leon up, wrapping an arm around Leon’s shoulders. Sensing Ash and Goh’s confusion, Leon stepped in.
“We’ve been together for a while now.” Leon stated, wrapping his arm around Raihan’s waist. “We haven’t gone public with it yet, and only close family and friends know. But we will when we’re ready. I hope you understand.”
“Of course.” Ash confirmed. “I’m surprised, but it makes sense. I’m happy for you.”
“Me too.” Raihan agreed, side hugging Leon tighter. “Since we’re all going the same way, why don’t you join us?”
~
“It took you long enough.” Leon’s mother stated, welcoming the pair in. “I almost thought you got lost… again.”
“Sorry.” Raihan apologized as he took his shoes off. “Ran into Sonia, and we ended up grabbing dinner in Hulbury.”
“How’s Hop?” Leon asked, eyeing the stairs.
“He’s okay.” His mom confirmed. “He should be awake if you want to peak in.”
Leon nodded, walking upstairs. They watched him, not saying anything until he was upstairs. His mother sighed, looking at Raihan with a tired smile.
“Thank you.” Leon’s mother said. “Hop needs it.”
“You’re welcome.” Raihan sighed. “Leon did too. He’s… Leon. Worrying like the lovable airhead he is.”
She chuckled. “I got Leon’s bedroom set up for you guys. Do excuse any mess. It’s been a while since Leon last visited.”
“We’ll manage.” Raihan assured. “Thank you for the accommodations on such short notice.”
Excusing himself, the dragon tamer followed after Leon. When he got to the top of the stairs, he spotted Leon in Hop’s room, both beaming with smiles. Standing in the doorframe, Raihan smirked.
Regardless of cause, they needed to see each other. Hop needed to see his brother. Leon needed the break and relief. Both needed the quality time.
And as any dragon would, Raihan was going to take care of his treasure. His knight. His prince.
