so freakin CUTE WHATT
Kuroo wasn't crazy about the concept of cubicles, but in reality
he couldn't be happier.
He loves his job but getting to share a cubicle with you has made it even more fun. You're the best. You laugh at his jokes, share food, and exchange office gossip in a way no one else has before. There's literally nothing you could say or do that would make him happier
until he finds out you're in love with his best friend.
You don't know it's his best friend, of course.
Nor do you know that he knows and he's been giddy ever since he found out because he's going to tell you the truth and introduce you
he just hasn't figured out how yet.
He figured out that you were in love with Kenma when dragged your feet in one morning, features sagging with fatigue.
With a yawn you had explained that you were up late watching your favorite streamer play a new video game. Before he could ask who and what game you were already launching into a detailed explanation of the game and how the streamer played it and what you liked about the game and why you were excited to try it and excited to try all the things this streamer did and why you liked this particular streamer the most in general and oh my god you said Kenma's name Kenma's name Kenma's name.
Kuroo's head was spinning.
You hadn't said Kenma but you said his gamertag and that's how Kuroo knew.
He knew you were a fan of Kenma's and from the way your eyes glittered and your face naturally lifted into a smile every time he asked about your favorite streamer after that he knew.
You were in love
with
his
best
friend.
So. How to do it? How to align the stars and introduce you to your future love?
Ask to join Kenma on camera and appear in a stream so you can make the connection yourself?
Invite you over to his house and happen to have Kenma there at the same time?
Create a meet-cute and set the two of you up without telling you at a cafe somewhere?
No.
In all cases you have viable escape routes.
Kuroo knows you don't handle being put-on-the-spot well so he has to do this delicately.
In a way from which you cannot flee.
There's only one option, really.
So when you're sitting at work one day and Kuroo's been exceptionally quiet he can feel the glances you're throwing his way.
"What's up with you today, nerd," you ask quietly so no one else can hear.
He shakes his head, unbothered. "Nothing. Just trying to get through all of this so I can have lunch with a friend."
"Ooo-la-la." You smirk and wiggle your eyebrows.
He snorts. "Not that kind of friend. My best friend. It's been a while since we've caught up so we're going to get lunch together."
You glance over his shoulder. "You want some help?"
Perfect.
He ropes you into the project so now you're hooked into being here. No accidentally leaving or being able to slip out before Kenma shows up.
It's going relatively well, the morning becoming more productive than usual as the two of you focus and Kuroo slips an email out to Iwaizumi without you noticing.
He gets a call from Kenma who's down in the lobby.
"Kuroo just go," you murmur. "I've got this."
"It's fine," Kuroo assures you as he hangs up. "He doesn't mind waiting; it's a few extra minutes and then we'll both be done."
You're looking at Kuroo's screen so he gets the full effect when there's a soft voice.
"Hey Kuroo."
You blink once.
Twice.
Brow slowly dipping
as you lean back and turn--
You freeze mid-gape as you recognize him.
Kenma glances at you from the corner of his eye partially obscured by the half-blonde, half-black locks of hair hanging out of his half-up, half-down bun; he gives a timid wave. "Hey."
Something unintelligible eeks out of your mouth; Kuroo restrains himself from reacting.
"What?" Kenma asks with a slight frown.
"Ko...Kodzu...Ken..." You croak, eyes widening. "Y-You're K-Kodzuken."
"Yeah," answers Kenma looking away with a light blush until his gaze lands on Kuroo; his eyes narrow.
Kuroo, no longer able to suppress a reaction, grins. "Kenma, meet my deskmate." As he introduces you by name he also includes--much to your surprise because you only told him once--your gamertag.
Kenma's eyes flicker with recognition. When he looks at you again it's with interest but before he can say anything a shrill ringtone cuts in.
Kuroo promptly answers, frowning as he says "right now, Iwaizumi? Can it wait?" He pauses, listening, and then rubs his forehead. "I was just about to go out to lunch with a friend." Another pause then a groan. "Fine I'll be there as soon as I can."
When he hangs up it's with the air of someone about to deliver bad news. "Kenma, I have to go take care of something but it shouldn't take too long." He sighs, ignoring the shrewd gaze of his best friend.
"How long?" Kenma asks, unamused.
"Not more than an hour. Would you mind meeting up at the restaurant in a little bit?" Kuroo glances at you then double-takes as if he's just thought of something. "Or you could wait here?"
Kenma's eyes narrow as Kuroo gets a text and quickly stands up, not waiting for an answer as he puts on his suit jacket and dashes off. "Be back in a bit!"
When Kuroo does make it back to the office he's elated not to find his best friend waiting for him.
Ding!
He checks the text; it's from Kenma.
Get lunch by yourself, loser.
Unsure how to interpret that he sits down, not noticing the piece of paper until it crunches under his butt.
He recognizes your handwriting as soon as he pulls it out:
You are the most conniving, annoying bastard I've ever had the displeasure of sharing a cubicle with. You also happen to be the only person I've ever shared a cubicle with so, unfortunately, it also makes you the most wonderful. I haven't decided which one you truly are, yet, but I'm going out to lunch with Kenma. No thanks to you who NEVER MENTIONED YOU KNEW HIM AND JUST DECIDED TO BLIND SIDE ME LIKE THIS. I will decide whether to maim or thank you based on how well or poorly this goes. And for the record? Iwaizumi's in Kyoto for training today so next time choose a better cover, loser.
Kuroo smiles. The only thing that about sharing a cubicle with you that would make him happier is if his best friend gets to be happy, too.

When the Boss Comes Knocking pt. 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the love on part one has been so wild ❤️ thank you guys sm for reading, I hope this drags you on an even wilder emotional rollercoaster than last time 🤠🤠
I sure as fuck have no proper explanation for my actions here, brace yourselves.
Summary: Sakusa knows he screwed up, but he’s quick to get on his knees to work for your forgiveness.
Warnings: solid combo of angst, fluff, and smut, reader is all over the place, Sakusa eating p*ssy 🫶🏼
Tumblr media
“Always Yours, Kiyoomi”
The note had sat on your desk for 3 days, staring you down with the heat of hell tucked into the ink scratched on the paper.  It was Friday, the day the Sakusa Group was to officially purchase the small publishing house you wrote for, but the man himself had yet to show up since your last encounter.
3 painfully slow days of no contact or sign of Sakusa had felt like 3 years, and you couldn’t help but feel angry. Angry that he thought he could come back into your life at his own convenience, with no explanation of his leaving for so long. Upset that you wanted him to come back. Pissed at yourself for letting him treat you like this.
The back and forth in your own brain was clouded by the memories of him, one hand on your throat and one in your hair, pulling you in. The look of satisfaction on his face when you finally called him by his first name again. The sweet bliss of his deep voice directed at you. It was inescapable even on your morning commute to work.
Opening the door to the lobby, you greeted Josie as always.
“Morning Josie”
“Oh good morning! There was a message left for you, actually. Mr. Sakusa’s secretary called and mentioned setting up a lunch meeting today around 1 pm.”
Surprise and irritation shot through the fog in your brain. He couldn’t even call you himself?? His behavior was getting ridiculous, and at this point you were going to completely miss the next 4 deadlines for the book you were working on if this distraction kept up.
“What?! Don’t respond please, I’ll just eat lunch here like usual” A guilty blush immediately spread across her face and you just dreaded whatever she was about to say.
“Um… I already scheduled it. Sorry! It felt like maybe you guys got along last time since you spoke for so long in your office and I thought maybe it would be a good idea to-”
“What??? Josie NO!” Complete horror washed across you like an ice bath, and you immediately realized that you were not dressed for a CEO level lunch date.
“I’m sorry to spring it on you like this. But hey, at least he’s sending a car to bring you, right?” She finished her sentence with a bright smile, totally not understanding why this was the absolute worst thing in the world.
You gave her a fake laugh and a smile, trying not to be too mean to her in your mind before heading straight into your office and slumping into the seat.
“Always Yours, Kiyoomi”
The note stared back at you, and you narrowed your eyes at his name. Fuck. Off. Sakusa. If he wanted to play this game, you certainly weren’t going to make it easy on him.
You had no time to let the regrets from your last encounter stew when time was not on your side today.  Stealing your nerves, you got to thinking of all the things you’ve been wanting to say to him, all the things you’ve been dying to ask.  But time raced against you, and when Josie knocked on your office door it felt as though no time had passed at all. You were still just as nervous as before, but an unfamiliar man in a suit followed behind Josie, ready to take you to your demise- a.k.a the Sakusa Group headquarters.
Tumblr media
It was 45 steps from your office to the car, 30 minutes in the car between offices, and now only 10 steps from the car into the massive lobby of the tower where the beast resided.  Someone greeted you straight away, and escorted you all the way to Sakusa’s door.
Shit. Shitshitshitshit. Your mind and heart were racing, but you took in a deep breath and reminded yourself to resist his efforts to win you over. Yea right, resist the irresistible. Great plan.
The door opened, and there he was. Goddamn this was going to be more difficult than you thought.
Sakusa’s deep voice rang out, smooth and rich like dark chocolate. His usual black button down and slacks made him the picture of all your work romance fantasies- not that you were thinking of anything like that. Certainly not.
“Thank you George, you may go.” Your escort bowed in respect, and closed the door on his way out. Sakusa said nothing, just smirked as he stood and walked toward the door, and locked it.
You stood frozen, feeling the heat of his chest warming your back. A large hand brushed your hair away from your face on one side, exposing your neck as Sakusa planted a soft kiss beneath the corner of your jaw, letting his breath tickle over your skin. You could just feel the smirk widening across his face. But as much as your knees were already growing weak, your anger refused to be forgotten this time.
Your figure’s sharp turn cut his growing smile off into a small frown, those dark brows furrowing slightly.
“Stop that. You owe me an explanation and I won’t let you near me until I get it.” Your voice was shaky, but you got your words out clearly.
Sakusa just closed the space between you again, towering over you with slight irritation on his face. This was obviously not how he expected this meeting to go.
“What is with these horrible greetings each time we meet? I’ll teach you this lesson as many times as I need to-”
“YOU were the one who told me not to call you Kiyoomi all those years ago, so don’t gimme that bullshit!! You don’t get to break up with me, be a total dick during our last conversation, disappear with no contact then return into my life like nothing happened years later! There is absolutely no way I can accept anything you offer me when you have completely shattered the very foundation of our relationship, Sakusa!”
The pent up energy, anxiety and ire that had slowly been collecting in your heart and mind this week was at its boiling point, finally spilling over as angry tears gathered in your eyes, your finger jabbing into his chest.
His demeanor changed entirely as he listened to your rant, and a serious look crept over his face, but he made no move to interrupt you. Even now, when you were so worked up that you couldn’t see straight, you couldn’t decide if you wanted to push him away or wanted to cry into his arms. He let you finish before speaking.
“So this is how you’ve been feeling. Come here, sweetheart.”
Simple acknowledgement was all it took for your tears to fall, and strong arms gave you comfort as he tucked your head beneath his chin. His fingers stroked your hair, and that damn cologne filled your senses as you tried to contain your emotions.
He brought his palms to your cheeks, thumbs brushing away the salty tears beneath your eyes as his gaze softened into something you’ve missed so desperately since high school. His tone was serious but gentle as he spoke his next words.
“I know you’re angry, yes?” You nodded aggressively, refusing to meet his eyes.
“I hear you. I want you to look at me sweetheart, tell me how I can make it up to you. What can I do to fix this?”
“I don’t know if this can be fixed Sakusa, I thought you just walked off and forgot about me after high school and I-”
“You couldn’t be more wrong.”
“If I’m wrong then prove it! Some explanation, anything is better than the nothing you left me with!”
Sakusa let out a heavy sign before pushing his hands into the roots of your hair, and kissing your forehead. He took your hand, fingers intertwined with yours as you swiped at the last of your tears.
“It doesn’t excuse the way that I’ve treated you, and I sure as fuck am not proud of it but I can give you an explanation. Let’s sit while we talk, yeah?”
Tumblr media
You followed him into a connecting room, a dining room of sorts, complete with cushioned seats and a glass coffee table. Sakusa settled in a seat next to yours and turned to set his serious gaze on you, so you might understand his sincerity.
His chest expanded as he took a deep breath, and released it slow.
“My family has always been demanding, and I knew their wish for me was to take over the Sakusa Group as early as possible. But I was young and dumb, and I didn’t have the confidence that I could actually do it. I know it’s no excuse for leaving you like that, but I was scared to fail. Disappointing you was something I couldn’t handle, and I wanted to prove to myself that I could become someone worthy of taking care of you one day. So I made sure to cut ties and cut them sharp so that if I did fail, you would hopefully never find out.”
This… this was not what you expected. Had he always been so concerned with your judgment of him? Why did he not let you support him? You had every confidence in your Kiyoomi back then, and you had always tried your best to show that, so why..? Did you not tell him enough? How could you ever possibly be disappointed in him?
“I didn’t forget what I said to you back then. I’m sorry I was so selfish, sweetheart.”
Tears threatened to spill over again, and you pressed the heels of your palms into your eyes. There was a soft shuffling sound and the scraping of a chair across the hardwood, and when Sakusa tugged your wrists from your face he was kneeling before you. Still tall enough on his knees to be nearly eye level with you.
“Don’t cry baby, look at me.” His fingers tucked beneath your chin, raising your head slightly.
“Tell me what I wanna hear. Come on love” You knew what he wanted immediately.
“Kiyoomi” Your voice was just above a whisper, but enough understanding was translated in that one word. Not quite forgiveness, but understanding.
This had always been a thing between you two, even in high school. When first names were used after an argument, you could both recognize that things were back on the right path. So it wasn’t quite forgiveness, but it was a step.
“Again.” But he was still just as greedy as ever. Gripping your chin a bit tighter, he brought his face right up to your neck and softly nipped at the skin on your jaw, tongue laving over the skin to sooth it.
“Kiyoomi”
“That’s my girl. Now, how should I make it up to you, hm?” His hands gripped your thighs just above your knees, squeezing into the flesh.
The tone of his voice switched, dripping with honey and saturating your mind with memories of twisted sheets and bated breaths.
“I think I know just where to start” Shit, that voice. You were sure it would be the death of you one day, but right now, it was your lifeline.
One of his thumbs hooked under the hem of your dress, baring one thigh ever so slowly, as his other hand guided your fingers into his hair. His gaze held yours as he began to kiss and bite a trail upwards following the exposed skin.
If there was one thing your romance readers raved about, it was the smut that some of your books contained. But you could hardly claim any credit when your inspiration for those scenes came from Kiyoomi. The Kiyoomi who loved seeing you flustered and blushing beneath him, hand around your throat and embarrassment crawling up your cheeks. Loved seeing tears of overstimulation roll down so he could lick them away. That was this Kiyoomi, the one that knelt before you now.
A hard bite on the inside of your thigh brought you back down to earth, a yelp of surprise escaping as your eyes snapped open.
“Be a good girl and keep your eyes on me.” You nodded as you tried to catch your breath, small bits of air coming out in light pants.
Pushing your dress all the way around your waist, Kiyoomi gripped your ass roughly with both hands and tugged your body to the edge of your seat, legs thrown over his broad shoulders. His eyes closed as he turned to bury his face into the thickness of one of your thighs, fingers dipping into the waistline of your panties. He watched completely enamored as he pulled them off your body, the evident wet spot sticking to the source of your arousal.
In one quick movement, he sat back on his heels and rid you of your panties entirely before settling back in on his knees. Two thick fingers swiped at your slit, gathering the stickiness there and bringing it to your mouth.
“Open.” You did as he asked without hesitation, and you could taste the saltiness on the pads of his fingers as he pressed down on your tongue. But you knew better than to wrap your lips around his fingers- knew to wait for instruction. His smirk returned in full as he realized you hadn’t forgotten his rules.
“Suck.”
His grip around your thigh tightened as you obeyed. Taking his fingers from your mouth, he pressed them back at your entrance, teasing you up and down as he finally, finally, brought his mouth to your clit. His tongue circled the nerves as he watched your eyes roll back, your mouth open just slightly.
Now Kiyoomi was never a religious man, but he would’ve prayed to any god to never forget this sight. Legs open for him, pretty face silently begging him to touch you. He wanted it permanently imprinted in his memory, wanted it to be the only thing he saw every time he closed his eyes. His control snapped.
Fingers plunged forward into you and Kiyoomi was lost in your tight heat as he set a quick pace, teeth tugging lightly on your clit before circling it with his tongue over and over again. He still knew your body so well even after so much time had passed, and he knew exactly how to drive you over the edge.
“O-omi”
“Hm?” He refused to pull his face away from your sweet pussy, humming against you in response, sending light vibrations that tickled up your spine.
“G-gonna cum Omi” His fingers curled upward and hit that spongy spot, as he pulled his mouth away for just a moment to respond. He pressed a thick forearm down across your hips, not letting you escape.
“Go on baby, cum in my mouth. Wanna taste you”
Kiyoomi shoved his tongue inside you, nose buried right up against that sensitive bundle of nerves as he reached up to fill your mouth with the fingers that had previously been fucking in and out of you. His other fingers gripped your jaw roughly as he pressed down on your tongue, sliding them further and further back into your wet mouth. Tears gathered in the corners of your eyes, doing your best to take what he gave you without gagging.
The release that spread over you had you crying out around his fingers, legs shuddering on his shoulders as his forearm held you in place, never pulling his tongue from you until he was satisfied he had tasted every drop.
But he only allowed you a moment to catch your breath.
Kiyoomi tugged your whole body straight off the chair, pulling your thighs to sit over his where he knelt.  He secured his arms around you and slotted his mouth against your lips, tongue slipping against yours to let you taste yourself on him. Crushing you against his chest, he let out a low groan and let a large palm tangle into your hair, tugging it slightly.
“Always been Omi’s favorite girl, you know that? Missed you so much sweetheart. Promise I won’t leave you again. Ever. And I’m so sorry I upset you my love”
And as he pressed his forehead against yours, you realized the signature on his note had always been true, more so than you realized.
“Always Yours, Kiyoomi”

don’t mind me just manifesting, carry on
SPOILED ROTTEN
(SEE: RICHBOY!SAKUSA SPOILS YOU A LITTLE TOO MUCH).
Tumblr media
“ABSOLUTELY not.” He deadpans, glaring at you like you’ve just kicked his dog and insulted his mother. It’s not a kind tone, “Don’t ask me again.”
“Kiyoomi, you always do this,” you seethe, ignoring the discomfort of the round-cheeked waitress holding the card reader, “Let. Me. Pay.”
“Fuck. No.” He returns, redirecting his attention to the server and handing her his card, “I’m terribly sorry about her. Debit, please.”
“Sakusa Kiyoomi.” You say as she scurries off, clearly amused at the battlefield the two of you have created in the center of this high-end, dimly lit restaurant. You wouldn’t be surprised to find a moviestar seated at the table behind you.
He repeats your name back to you in the same tone you used with him, a handsome grin on his face, “Yes, my love?”
“Stop paying for everything!” You demand, “People already think I’m using you for your money, and you aren’t really helping my case.” You’ve seen the tweets. Some are accusatory. Some are happy for you. None of them attest to your character.
“Well,” he leans over the table, finding your hands and softly stroking the knuckle there, trapping you in his coffee-cold gaze, “Are you using me for my money?”
“No,” you grumble, a little flustered at his forwardness, “But still–”
He releases your hand as the words leave your mouth, a satisfactory smile tugging at his lips, “Then there’s no issue. Though, I wouldn’t be opposed to you using me for money. I’m a useful guy.”
“Kiyoomi, that’s not the point–”
“As a matter of fact,” he sifts through his wallet to find what he’s looking for, gently sliding it across the table when he locates whatever it is, “I’ve been meaning to give this to you.”
The young waitress returns with a smooth leather checkbook and a pen. He thanks her as she walks off, delivering his signature to the flimsy receipt with a few flicks of his wrist, “What’s twenty percent of two hundred? I wasn’t good at math.”
You don’t answer that, “You can’t be serious. Kiyoomi, I can’t accept–”
“Is fifty dollars enough to tip? Fuck it, I’ll just leave sixty.”
“This is your credit card.”
“You have great eyesight,” he comments, shrugging like it’s nothing, “And I have good credit. Use it for whatever. I’ll pay it off.”
You nearly laugh at the absurdity of it all, “Since when were you so confident?”
“When you started giving me attention,” He grins easily, “I’d do a lot of things to get you to pay attention to me.”
His transparency catches you off guard, “You’re serious?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” he fires back, “You’re too pretty to not be taken seriously.”
You sigh, face feeling hot.
“You’re too much,” It takes a great effort to fight back the grin that threatens to break through, to suppress a smile at his ease, “Let’s go home.”
“Why don’t we go find something sweet?” He offers, standing to help you into your coat, “There’s a good ice cream place around here that stays open late.”
Your shy smile gives Kiyoomi enough of an answer. Thanking the staff as the two of you head for the door, he slithers a sneaky arm around your waist.
“I’ll even let you pay,” he flirts, pulling you closer to combat the late-night temperatures, “With your new credit card, of course.”

When The Boss Comes Knocking
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the following is a CEO!Sakusa fic that landed somewhere between sfw and sorta nsfw, but its kiyoomi and he just makes my brain go buzz in every situation so i just couldn’t help it
Part 2
Summary: You dated Sakusa in high school but went your separate ways after graduation. Turns out he missed you much more than he let on.
Warnings: none, just kiyoomi being hot. use of “sweetheart” and “baby”
Tumblr media
Sakusa Kiyoomi always has been and will always be the man of your dreams. Tall and broad shouldered, even in his high school years he was the pinnacle of your existence, and all you wanted was to be near him. Your wishes were granted for only a brief period of time when you finally dated in your junior year, but your Kiyoomi was ripped away from you when his family decided he needed to start preparing to take over the business.
The Sakusa Group was well known and respected for their acquisition of many successful start-ups, but details of their business dealings were always very secretive. And the company had only grown and expanded since Kiyoomi became CEO at just a mere 25 years old- not that you were stalking the Sakusa Group’s movements in your free time or anything.
When the two of you broke up he had encouraged you to “follow your own dreams”, and made sure to mention he would be extremely busy in the years after graduating high school.  You had received the underlying message loud and clear. He wanted to be left alone and didn’t want a girl from a regular family ruining his image when he entered the executive world. Your heart was shattered, but that didn’t stop you from missing Kiyoomi dearly even years later. The hugs that completely enveloped your frame and the scent of his light cologne, the one he brought you to pick out for him on his birthday. The rasp of his deep voice and how its sound had burrowed into the back of your brain, the memories of random things he once said to you popping to the forefront of your mind haphazardly throughout your days.
You had done as he said, and moved to the city to become an author as you always dreamed. Actually, you were pretty successful in the romance industry and even though you only had a handful of books published, your fanbase was so dedicated and charismatic. In your single year of dating Kiyoomi you had amassed a lifetime’s worth of romantic material, and between your real life experiences with him and the melancholy fantasies that kept you up at night nowadays, you had lots of inspiration. Although, even you were prone to the classically dreaded writer’s block.
Today was just a regular Tuesday morning in the office, where you preferred to write when you were stuck in a rut. Unfortunately, the coffee mug on your desk was not bringing the inspiration that you wanted and you glared at the last sip, willing some piece of creativity to be hiding inside as you downed it. Nothing. Loosening a sigh, you dropped your head into your hands just as a knock rapped on the door. Without lifting your head you greeted the visitor, already knowing who was on the other side.
“Come in!”
“How’s it coming? Anything I can get you right now?” It was the sweet front desk girl, Josie, checking in on you. Again.
“Unless you can write in my place, there’s not much you can do for me i'm afraid” Josie meant well, but her insistent interruptions certainly were not helping your workflow, and this was the third time within 30 minutes she’s asked if you needed anything.
“Okie dokie, I’ll check back later then! Keep at it! ”
“Oh, you don’t have to-” She was off with a wave without hearing your response, the door slamming behind her. With another sigh, your head dropped back into your hands, frustration building.
Not 5 minutes later, there was another knock at the door. But this time the door opened before you could respond.
“Holy shit, Josie i’m really fine I swear- K-Kiyoomi???” You burst from your seat in surprise, your eyes all but popping out of your head.
And there he was, like a fever dream come to life, standing in the doorframe. His handsome face tilted to the side slightly, a smirk pulling across his lips.
“There you are, I’ve been looking for you” His voice had gotten deeper since the last time you spoke. His hair a little longer, his chest a bit stronger. But his eyes remained the same, that dark gaze enticing you and melting you down with just a look.
“W-what are you doing here? How did you-? What is this??”
As much as you wanted to cave and run straight into his arms, you vividly recalled your last conversation with Sakusa. Not Kiyoomi. He had corrected you so coldly before parting, saying “you should call me by last name from now on, otherwise people may get confused”. As if it would be bad if people mistakenly thought you were still dating. As if to push you that much further away. Your confusion only grew as you looked at him now, unsure of his motives for being here.
“Came to scope out a new prospect. I sent an executive to meet with your publishing house’s CEO last week” His smirk widened as he took deliberately slow steps into the room, sleek confidence dripping from him.
That's right, your boss had mentioned that your little publishing house had been recently approached by a huge parent company with an amazing offer, but as far as you knew nothing had been made official. And you certainly had no clue that said parent company was the Sakusa Group. The realization settled in, and the frustration you felt earlier was starting to bubble up again.
All of a sudden he was in your space, sleek black button-up shirt in your direct line of sight. What was his goal here? Certainly this has nothing to do with you? Right. Exactly. He claimed he was here for business. Then why..??
Long fingers gripped your chin, thumb tugging your bottom lip from between your teeth where you nervously chewed it.
“Where did you pick up this bad habit? And when are you planning on acknowledging me properly?” Your heart dropped to your stomach. His firm grip brought your face to look up at his, a little too close for comfort. Kiyoomi’s smirk tilted into a small frown, an admonishing look starting to grow.
“Of course sir, I apologize. Good morning Mr. Sakusa.” Backing out of his hold, you bowed in respect. Of course he was here for just business.
This only seemed to irritate him further though, and when you rose from your greeting he took another step closer. You may as well have been toe to toe now.
“Since when do you address me that way?” His eyes were too intense, and you could feel the memories of your past relationship coming up in your mind, emotion nearly overwhelming you before you swallowed it down.
“I’m not sure what you mean sir, it would be improper for me to address you otherwise”
If he was irritated before, then he was surely pissed off now.
His hands gripped your shoulders, roughly pushing you back against your desk before planting his palms on either side, caging you in.
“Why won’t you look at me, hm? It’s disrespectful to ignore your superior sweetheart” Shit. That voice had you in a vice grip and he knew it. He was using it to his advantage.
“I was unaware you would be my business superior until a minute ago, forgive me sir” How long will your legs hold up before melting completely?
“Seems like something is bothering you. You don’t like the idea of working with me? Or maybe you don’t like the idea of me being your boss? Sweetheart, I hope you realize I know you’ve been writing about me.”
“No! No thats not-!” Your head shot up in a rush to disagree, or maybe to explain. Either way, you immediately realized your mistake and you were silenced once more. The tip of your nose brushed his, and his breath brushed your lips in an intimate greeting, as if to say “hey, i missed you”.
His mock irritation melted away, the smirk returning once more. You fell into the trap too easily.
Most people knew Sakusa to be the cool and straightforward man he showed to the world, but when you dated in high school he quickly shattered this image. Though he certainly preferred to stay away from crowds and strangers, he was still human after all, and loved to be in your personal space whenever he got you alone. He had always enjoyed making you blush and stutter, thriving off the knowledge that he could affect you so deeply. Clearly, he still enjoyed that feeling.
But you were not a toy, and he was interrupting your work day. And how dare he just come back into your life after throwing you aside for so many years?! Absolutely not, you refused to be disrespected this way. Your hands came to his chest, giving him a solid (and completely ineffective) shove.
“No. This is not professional Mr. Sakusa-!”
Sakusa didn’t back up a single inch. Instead he gripped your face, long fingers pinching into your cheeks slightly. Your breath caught in your throat, previous arguments completely obliterated.
“Stop. Saying. No. Now answer me. Since when do you call me by my last name? You’re purposely not answering my question”
When you took a breath in you caught the scent of his cologne, and it was the same one you picked out for him in high school. He still wore it. Every single thought emptied out of your head, except for the recognition of how close he was to you, and where he was touching you.
“Say it.”
“K-Kiyoomi...”
“Say it like you mean it, baby.”
“Kiyoomi.” A smile broke out as his name fell from your mouth a second time.
“That’s my girl, just as pretty as ever. I missed you so bad sweetheart, I’ve been looking for you in the city for some time now. And don't worry, I’ll make up for lost time, so don’t push me away.”
His second hand came up to the back of your head, tugging you back by your hair and bringing your mouth to his. But he didn’t kiss you, he denied you the pleasure, only speaking against your lips. You let him do as he pleased, no longer able to deny how much you missed him. Missed this.
“Look at you with your hair so grown out now.”
“Do you like it?”
“I love everything about you.” He moved to plant a firm kiss to both of your cheeks, and to your disappointment he slowly released his hands from your face and hair.
“The Sakusa Group will officially be in ownership of your publisher by the end of the week. You’ll be seeing a lot more of me, so get used to it sweetheart.” He offered no further explanations or goodbyes, and he left your office with only your disheveled and flustered state to prove that he had really been there at all.
You made absolutely zero progress on your writing the rest of the morning and afternoon, but when you returned the next day ready for another day of failure, you opened the door to see your office transformed into a florist.
There were flowers on every single surface, completely covering your desk and the floor. There were roses of every shade, along with tulips, orchids, and other kinds of flowers you had never even seen before. Each bouquet was bursting with color and life, wrapped in silk ribbons and set in gorgeous porcelain vases that looked absolutely priceless.  There was only a small path left open for you to walk to your desk seat, and on your keyboard was a note.
“A flower for every occasion I missed. And more just because.”
Your hand came up to your mouth, tears already welling up in your eyes. You looked to the bottom, and saw he signed the note,
“Always Yours, Kiyoomi”

no im okay totally don’t worry i said IM FINE
“Princess, can I ask you something?” He speaks, breaking the silence of the long, uneventful car ride. “Sure, anything!” You chirp, unsuspecting of what is to come.
“Why don’t you ever let me do anything for you?” Ushijima says, his eyes remain fixated on the long stretch of roads ahead. The fog heavily roll down the sides the hills on your either sides, lowering visibility. His hand tightens around the wheel, while the other grips yours.
“What do you mean by that?” You sit back, eyes wandering his features, looking for any sign that he’s just cheerfully asking you. Knowing Ushi though, he’s sometimes not as light hearted as you’d think.
“You are always so insistent on doing everything yourself. You won’t let me help you, like earlier, when you refused to let me tie your shoes. That isn’t the first time you refused my help.” He goes on a spiel, his thumb reaches to the toggle and lowers the volume, making his breathing more prominent than ever. It has occur to you that you have always been doing everything by yourself despite his looming figure always by your side. The hyperindependence is slowly starting to bother him. He wants to help you, wants to give you the fullest extent of a princess treatment yet the only thing really holding him back from that is, you.
“It’s just something that I could easily have done for myself, you didn’t need to bother with that, don’t worry, baby,” you try to comfort him, hoping some words of affirmation can help. It really isn’t a big deal, it’s some shoe laces that came undone, not a heavy errand.
As soon as the car is pulled into a parking spot at a rest stop, quickly shifting the car in “park”, turning to you and he sighs. A real sigh. One so full of frustration and… hopelessness. “I’m not bothered. It has never mattered how big or small anything is, I want to do everything for you. Why are you holding yourself back from me?” He is starting to put things into perspective for you. After going through a useless ex-boyfriend, then a man who gave you hot and cold attention, lastly a guy who gave you princess treatment to fill his inflated ego before meeting Ushijima, learning to only rely on yourself has been the protector of your heart, your soul and your sanity. You find that by depending on your good ol’ self is the only way to prevent yourself from throwing your body off a bridge.
“Ushi, it’s not—,” before you can finish your sentence, truthfully you don’t really know what to say. He’s right, you are holding yourself back from him. Holding yourself back from the hurt that you’ve known all too well, he interrupts, holding both your hands in his, “baby, you’re my priority, my everything, your well-being, happiness and comfort are my main concerns and I want it to be that way,” he stops, taking a breath. Reminiscent of the times where Ushijima offered to go so out of his way to help you but being kindly turned down has left him feeling absolutely useless and uneasy. Ushijima’s love language is act of service and because he hasn’t been able to do the bare minimum for you, he feels it eating him alive.
“I am aware of your past, I know that I can’t change what was, but I’m here to make a difference now, I mean it!” You are moved by his words, he means what he says and you know it. You’ve seen it. He’s a big man of his words, always keeping promises, has never ever disappointed you in any way. Yet the walls have been reinforced many times again that it has cemented itself in your life, creating a barrier between the two of you. “I want to open doors for you, pull out chairs for you, pick you up from a friend’s house, drop you off at the airport, all of that, please, baby, please just let me.” You have to say, it is like he is begging for you to allow him in, allow him to integrate further into your system, a system you’ve built to keep you from going down a slippery slope time and time again.
“I’m so grateful for you, Ushi, you’ve done so much for me, you really have. I just feel like I can’t be asking for anymore than what you’ve already given me,” before you can inhale a full breath, he branches his body over to your side of the car and kisses you deeply, so deeply that you melt. “I’m at your disposal, you are my world, let me in, don’t keep shutting me out,” he says, breaking away from the kiss.
You chuckle, “yes, Wakatoshi, I accept your offer,” and you’ve never seen him smile wider. A big, toothy grin coming from the infamously stoic dude. He kisses you again, “thank you, baby.”
He unbuckles your seatbelt, hastily running from his side to yours and opening the door for you, and just like the universe is rooting for the both of you, your shoe laces come undone, again.

Cafe Cutie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hey. someone tell the universe to make this happen to me. thanks.
Summary: Ushijima has a little crush on a girl who shares his favorite coffee shop
Warnings: none, fluff
Tumblr media
Everyday before practice, Ushijima would pick up his iced americano from the cafe down the street.
And everyday he would see you, sitting by the window with your own drink between your hands. Eyes bouncing around the coffee shop before finally settling on him, and giving him the little smile and wave he so eagerly looked forward to each morning.
Your smile made your eyes upturn slightly, bright and awake even in the early hours of the day. He loved that about you, and it helped him stay motivated to get to practice early. Ushijima tried his best to notice every little detail about you in the moments you blessed him with those waves, tucking the details into the back of his brain forever.
Like the freckles that speckled across parts of your face, the dimples on your cheeks and the tiny crinkles by your eyes that appeared when you gave him a soft smile. Like your collar bones tempting him from just above the neckline of your sweater. Or your tiny hands that barely made it around the mug of whatever it was you drank every morning.
Ushijima swallowed roughly, returning your greeting before quickly turning out of the cafe and trying to conceal the grin breaking its way across his lips.
It was business as usual for Ushijima the next few days, only seeing you briefly in the cafe before rushing off to practice- but thoughts of you stayed with him. Long hours of workouts were passed in seconds as he imagined you standing next to him in the gym. Watching, with him the center of your attention. Even winning matches felt bitter sweet, because he could so easily picture you on the sidelines, running into his open arms to congratulate him on a job well done.
But unfortunately, Ushijima’s one major shortcoming was communication. His teammates even referred to him as a “volleyball idiot”, whatever that was.
Sometimes he would give you a small “hello” or “good morning”, but your conversation never went further than that. It was pure torture. He was confident that if you had only been introduced properly that things would be different, but Ushijima knew that he was only a stranger in the cafe to you.
Tumblr media
“It would not be polite to disturb her peace or approach her against her will.”
“Dude. Just say hi, it’s not that weird!”
Hoshiumi honestly could not believe his ears. Not only was Ushijima chatting up a storm instead of warming up, but he was talking about a girl. Ushijima was hardly ever interested in something that had nothing to do with volleyball, and as far as Hoshiumi knew, girls were certainly never on his radar before now…
“We exchange greetings all the time, that’s not the issue-”
“Ask her what her coffee order is.” Kageyama cut in with a surprisingly normal answer, and now Hoshiumi was sure that he had woken up in another dimension this morning.
“I didn’t know you were good at this sort of thing. Thank you.” Rising to his full height and turning towards the court with a newfound energy, Ushijima had found his answer.  And two days later, on a Thursday morning, the opportunity arose.
Tumblr media
You were a bit later than usual in arriving at the cafe, and today you were in line directly behind Ushijima at the counter. He took a deep breath, willing the buzzing in his brain to silence itself as he turned to face you.
If he hadn’t just taken a breath, he certainly would’ve choked on the next one. You were gorgeous up close, and he was overcome with the urge to stare. Getting himself under some semblance of control, he bowed softly and muttered a soft “good morning, how are you”. Your eyes followed his the entire time, and he realized how much shorter you were. Your neck tilted back to raise your face to his, lips just loosening a breath, before you quickly returned his bow and greeting.
“What’s your coffee order?” Shit, did that sound weird? It certainly felt weird.
“I get a flat white!” Her smile is so cute… What the hell is a flat white?
“I can’t say I'm familiar with-”
“What can I get for you today sir?” Without even thinking, Ushijima answered the cashier.
“Two flat whites please.”
You were clearly taken aback, but Ushijima thought your flustered reaction was so sweet. That tiny blush creeping across your nose made the initial awkwardness more than worth it. And Ushijima promised himself in that split second that he would see that blush again, somehow.
“O-oh I didn’t say that to make you buy my coffee! Thank you so much but I-”
“It was my pleasure. I have a few extra minutes this morning if you’d like to sit with me?” Oh, if Kageyama could see him now.
Your conversation was short because of his morning practice, but Ushijima finally got your name and your number, which was far more than he ever could have expected for your first real interaction. And as he got up to leave and say his goodbyes, he remembered the little promise he made to himself.
“I hope you’ll continue to let me do this in the mornings, have a good day”
And that adorable blush graced his view once more as you nodded in shy agreement.
