I don’t have too many people who pay attention to what I post, but for those of you that do, you’ll probably notice that I didn’t completely finish Inktober. I just ran out of steam and couldn’t motivate myself to draw the last piece, which was supposed to be Coven Annie.

However, Inktober was an experience I want to reflect on, so I think I want to do a couple posts: one about what I feel are my favorite pieces from the series, and one about what I feel are my worst pieces (and what I could do to improve).

I’ll get back to making more art at some point, but more than anything, I kinda need a break.

Inktober 2023 Day 29: Massive

Old Goddess Bel’Veth. I imagine her as the goddess of the Hungering Depths, and she represents the sea’s insatiable hunger for the foolish mortals who try to dominate it. She is the cold, hungry depths swirling around the wreckages of countless ships for eons.

Also, I legitimately think she will be a part of this skinline someday. I get the feeling she’s Nami’s patron.

Inktober 2023 Day 27: Beast

Old Goddess Rek’Sai. She actually already exists in the Coven Universe as Elderwood Rek’Sai, but I feel like it was a missed opportunity to make her into an eldritch abomination.

So here she is, bursting out of a grave. I imagine her as the Gnawing Gravedigger, a fearsome entity that feasts on mourners coming to visit the graves of their loved ones.

Inktober 2023 Day 25: Dangerous

Coven Gwen. Once upon a time, there a doll, beloved by a small boy. They went on all sorts of magical adventures together in the woods surrounding their quaint country home over the course of years. But one day, when he shared his doll with other kids in the village, they mocked him, saying that boys couldn’t play with dolls.

In frustration, spiked with grief and splattered with humiliation, he took out his anger on his doll, sewing her mouth shut and cutting her up with scissors before abandoning her in the woods.

This doll is eventually picked up by a wandering witch and brought to life by a coven. The coven repaired the doll with stitches of their own, but once alive, the doll never removed her mouth stitches. She saw them as a way to inspire fear in those who saw her and as a reminder of the ones who force us to repress ourselves and how she would seek vengeance on them. This now-living doll becomes Coven Gwen, a witch whose patron would have been the ancient goddess Naafiri (but I skipped the prompt for that day).

Inktober 2023 Day 23: Celestial

Solar Eclipse Soraka. I imagined a “solar nun” concept for this skin. I’d probably call it “Solar Cleric Soraka” or something similar if it existed and it was up to me.

In retrospect, I don’t think Soraka needs another priestess/cleric-themed skin. I probably should have made her a coven concept because she needs more *edge.*

Inktober 2023 Day 21: Chains

Coven Morgana again. I originally had a different concept in mind involving both Morgana *and* Sylas, but felt I didn’t have the time to execute it as well as I would’ve liked. Maybe I’ll revisit it eventually.

This had the potential to be so much better. I was having fun with the pose, the shading, the chains…and then I botched her Fucking face. Arguably the most important part. I gave her an angry Pokémon mouth and I can’t forgive myself for it.

Inktober 2023 Day 19: Plump

Old God Gragas. I felt fairly uninspired by this one because I simply don’t like Gragas. Regardless, I *did* know I didn’t want to portray him like a terrible fat joke - I wanted him to look more refined and powerful than he’s portrayed in the game.

I was inspired by God of War’s rendition of Thor, so I went the Nordic route here. He’s supposed to be the god of Addictive Escapism with his delirium-inducing cauldron.

I’m not happy with this one, but it was undeniably a challenge, which is what I think Inktober is about.

Inktober 2023 Day 17: Demon

Coven Morgana already exists in the coven universe as a coven member. It was great to have references for her outfit, but also difficult because her outfit is complicated.

I really wanted an excuse to draw her because she’s my favorite champion. I’ll probably make an excuse to draw her again in this series.

Here, she’s summoning a “demon” owl because her patron is the Ashen Owl (whom I’d guess might be Ivern, based on Ivern’s old god splash art, but there’s probably a lore reason as to why I’m wrong). It’s a bit of a leap, but it had to be taken so I could feel like it fit.

Inktober 2023 Day 15: Dagger

Although I have my doubts as to whether or not she’d fit in this line (I think Coven works best with with magic users), this is supposed to be Coven Katarina. With the introduction of Akali to the skinline, maybe she won’t stand out as much.

I’m not confident in my artwork here AT ALL, but I think there’s some cool ideas involved. I’d make her patron Old Goddess Kindred (one of my earlier Inktober pieces), which is why I added the moth motif in multiple places on her.
