Deputy: I made this friendship bracelet for you.
Jess: You know, I'm not really a jewelry person.
Deputy: You don't have to wear it.
Jess: No, I'm gonna wear it. Forever. Back off.

Can you do a oneshot with Joey and your oc Barbara? From what I've read about her she's a super fun character and I'd love to get to know her better!
A/N: Thank you so, so much for requesting something with my OC!!! 🥺 Getting the opportunity to write something for her just absolutely makes my day 💖
I know I haven't been too active, but I'm going to try to maybe start writing little oneshots for this fandom when I can! If y'all want to send requests for oneshots with Barbara and the others, it would be absolutely awesome! I know y'all probably haven't fallen in love with her quite like I have, but if you enjoy her, please do send a request! 🥰💕
I hope y'all enjoy this one! 😊
Word Count: 1555
“Hey, Jo,” Barbara called, and Joey narrowed her eyes, scoffing a little as she looked back at her.
“Yes, a-hole?” Joey questioned, no real malice in her voice, but a definitive tone showing precisely how unamused she was with the name. Barbara raised her eyebrows, chuckling a little.
“Woah, Hudson… You feeling a little testy today? I didn’t even call you Jo-Jo,” Barbara grinned lightly, and Joey shrugged as she smirked at her a little.
“Nah. But I did shorten Josephine down to Joey for a reason, Rook,” Joey declared as she wagged her knife at her somewhat playfully.
They were currently carving pumpkins with the group at the Rye household, and Barbara had headed over to Joey’s table to carve with her. Jess was far too busy cussing Hurk out for something or another and Grace had actually ended up taking a nap in a corner, her head angled down to touch her chest as her hat remained pulled low over her eyes.
Therefore, Barbara had taken it upon herself to spend some time with one of her other best friends and the one who definitely counted as her oldest friend.
In reply to Joey’s prior comment, Barbara moved her head in a conceding gesture.
“True. I mean… Jo makes you like that girl from Little Women that you for some reason seem to have a serious issue with,” Barbara pointed out, and Joey instantly shook her head, disagreeing as her warm eyes sparkled.
Barbara could not help but grin, and she dipped her head in an attempt to hide it. Joey could be insufferable when she thought she was winning or making a point.
“Look, I don’t have an issue with Jo. Jo was a literal icon. I just don’t like Little Women,” Joey declared as she placed her knife down on the table next to her pumpkin.
“And why exactly do you have an issue with Little Women?” Barbara questioned, raising an eyebrow as she managed to bite back the smile for long enough to attempt to come off at least partially serious, and Joey shrugged, her eyes getting a little wider as she looked at Barbara.
“Because! It reminds me of Florence Pugh! You know, I was a huge fan of hers from when she was in Black Widow until she started running around showing her nipples,” Joey declared, and Barbara abruptly snorted in reply to her, covering her mouth as she grinned widely.
“While you’re not wrong and I’m one hundred percent on board with that, you seriously need to rephrase so you don’t sound like an old prude,” Barbara chuckled heartily, fully enjoying Joey’s rather emphatic argument as she let her hand fall away to rest on her pumpkin.
Joey just huffed, rolling her eyes, and she turned more fully toward her, bumping her shoulder into Barbara’s as she tried to get a look at the pumpkin that Barbara was currently carving.
“But look, seriously, whatcha need, Rook?” Joey questioned, an easygoing grin playing across her face as she moved nearer. Barbara grinned widely, remembering exactly why she had called her best friend. She grabbed the pumpkin by the stem, turning it around so that Joey could look at it.
It was a goofy-looking pumpkin, and it had a really silly expression carved in it with big circles for eyes, a skeleton-looking nose, and an O-shaped mouth with one buck tooth on top. Joey almost looked like she would laugh for a moment but she pulled herself together at the realization that Barbara was staring right at her.
Joey just looked at the pumpkin, studying it, and Barbara looked at her expectantly. She could not help but feel the smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she eyed the taller woman. She knew that Joey was completely confused and that she must be trying to figure out what in the world that Barbara could possibly need from her when the pumpkin was completely finished.
Finally, after a long moment, she looked at Barbara.
“And let me reiterate… Whatcha need?” Joey asked, and Barbara laughed.
“What does he look like?” she asked, gesturing to the pumpkin, and Joey just looked at it before shrugging and leaning a little closer to Barbara.
“Might be just me but… A pumpkin?” Joey asked, lowering her voice conspiratorially.
“No! Like what should I name him?” Barbara laughed, shaking her head, and Joey chuckled along, shrugging as she looked down at him.
“Well… I never really thought about what to name a pumpkin, but okay,” Joey raised an eyebrow, seeming as if she were considering it as she narrowed her eyes a bit.
“Herman,” Joey finally settled, and Barbara furrowed her brow hard, completely blown away by Joey’s thoughts on names for the dumb pumpkin before them.
   “Herman?”
“Yeah. Why not?” Joey questioned, and Barbara squinted, looking at her oddly.
“Herman the pumpkin?” Barbara asked, and Joey moved her head in a noncommittal gesture.
“Yeah,” Joey agreed, standing by her name firmly. Barbara looked back at the pumpkin, tilting her head as she inspected it and tried to see where Joey came up with the name Herman from looking at a pumpkin that was so clearly not a Herman sort of pumpkin.
“I don’t know. I thought he looked more like Larry,” Barbara declared, and Joey raised an eyebrow.
   “Larry?”
   “Larry,” Barbara repeated confidently.
“You sound so resolute,” Joey commented, and Barbara nodded.
   “Yeah. I think Larry’s good.”
“Well, why did you even ask me about it then?” Joey questioned incredulously, her eyes sparkling with mischief as she proceeded to give Barbara a hard time.
“I was testing to see if you were on my same wavelength. Obviously, you didn’t pass,” Barbara shot back at her, and Joey narrowed her eyes, feigning a frown that was very clearly fighting to disguise a smile as she grabbed Barbara in a playful yet gentle headlock.
“You are such a little turd,” Joey declared as she held onto her, and Barbara just laughed as Joey held onto her a little more tightly.
“I got it all from you. You completely wrecked the good girl I was in high school, and I was never the same afterward!” Barbara shot back, and Joey narrowed her eyes even further. She leaned forward and touched her tongue to Barbara’s cheek quickly, and Barbara let out a loud noise of protest, trying to pull back and escape, but Joey held onto her, trying to keep her close despite her protest and complaint.
“EW! You are so twisted!” Barbara complained loudly, and Joey cackled like a madwoman, a giant, evil grin spread across her face.
“How’s that for the same wavelength?!” Joey victoriously announced, and Barbara did her best to move away just enough so that she could look at her and give her some kind of a halfhearted death stare.
“What if I lick you, and then it’ll definitely be on the same wavelength!” Barbara shot back, and as Joey far too confidently jutted her chin out in Barbara’s direction, Barbara shot forward, managing to touch her tongue to her chin. Joey let out a cry of protest and disgust, moving away as she bumped heavily into the table.
She exhaled sharply with the pain, chuckling despite the hurt, and Barbara took her opportunity to try to hold her down.
However, to their shock, they suddenly heard a loud crack, and they both froze as they turned around to look in the direction of the sound.
To their shock, Larry had fallen to the ground and cracked several large pieces on the stones of the patio. Barbara’s eyes went wide, and Joey raised her eyebrows as she stared. They remained frozen for a moment until Barbara turned back to look at Joey.
“You murdered Larry,” she accused. Regret immediately started to shine in Joey’s eyes, and Barbara could not help but grin just barely as she looked at the older woman determinedly.
“And now I’m going to have to arrest you,” she playfully added on finally. Joey just rolled her eyes, smirking as she straightened to her full height.
“I’d like to see you try, Miss Junior Deputy. I’m still a higher-ranking officer than you,” Joey shot back in reply, and Barbara furrowed her brow in concern.
“Maybe technically, but that’s only because I haven’t had my official deputy ceremony yet!” Barbara argued emphatically, and she knew that she sounded far too childish to truly be taken seriously. Joey just laughed at her, patting her head as she tried to feign some amount of seriousness.
“Of course you are, kiddo. Of course you are,” Joey answered, putting on a very much baby-talking sort of voice. Barbara just scoffed, playfully shoving Joey as she moved back from her and turned to the side to look at the pumpkin that had so ungracefully collapsed and broken.
Joey grinned as she leaned in and bumped her shoulder into Barbara’s once more.
“Should we bury him?” Joey questioned, trying to stay as serious as possible.
“Ugh… Jerk,” Barbara halfheartedly insulted as she started to walk off and see if Nick had any more pumpkins. Joey jogged after her with a cheese-eating smirk.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to witness the sending off of a good friend and colleague, Mr. Larry—”
   “Ugh…”

How do you think they would react to unexpected becoming a parent/adopting a child? 🪺
Jess - Certainly does not do well with the adjustment. She thinks that the kid deserves better than her and that all she will raise is a messed-up psychopath. However, when she realizes that this child has nowhere else left to turn, she tries to figure out some way to take care of it, and does her best to teach it how to live off of nature. She is pretty tough on her kid, but she tries to do right by the child and give it what her grandmother gave her since her grandmother is the only real example she has to go by.
Grace - Does not have any idea how to take care of it, but does her best. She does really well with it and something in her naturally knows how to take care of it. She does the best she can to take care of the kid and despite wanting to go out and fight, she stays true to her responsibilities and stays with the child when it needs it. When she can, she leaves the kid in the care of Mary-May, but she usually remains with her child. She is hard on her kid, but is soft toward it when it needs it and is her kid’s greatest defender.
Sharky - Adapts amazingly well. He is cool with having a kid, and he honestly loves having a little companion that he can raise as his own. It takes him a little while to figure it out, but he gives it an honest try and does his best to care for the child. He doesn’t do too badly with it amazingly. He is way too soft with the kid and might accidentally raise a bit of a brat.
Hurk - Honestly knows nothing about raising children but quickly figures out that giving a baby a beer isn’t going to cut it. He kind of sees the kid sort of like a little dog, and he starts setting papers out on the floor. However, when he figures out that the housetraining is not working, he starts reading online about how to take care of kids. He’s not good with it, but it steers him in the right direction thankfully. He is pretty easy on the kid, though.
Adelaide - Thinks a kid is adorable and knows how to take care of it well. However, her lifestyle does not exactly permit for one and she does not really want the responsibility of another kid. However, when she sees that it needs somebody and that she’s all it has, she goes with it and tries to raise a kid that is at least not as weird and messed up as Hurk. She is pretty easy on the kid overall and kind of treats it more like it’s the grandchild she never had.
Nick - Freaks out a little at first but gets all the parenting books he can find and does his best to raise this child alongside Carmina. He is lucky since he has Kim to help him, and Carmina is a good big sister to the new child. Just like he is with Carmina, he has a tendency to be a little too easy on the kid.
Hudson - Is very shocked and has no idea how to handle it, but she does a pretty okay job considering the fact that she does not have any experience with kids whatsoever. She tries to figure out some way to handle it even though she was not ready for kids, and she frequently enlists Whitehorse to help her out even though he doesn’t really know what he’s doing either despite having grandkids. Hudson is not very soft on the kid but she cares for it deeply and is soft with it in the right circumstances.
Pratt - Is honestly scared about taking care of a child, but he tries. He is not too good at it since he’s still working through some issues himself, but he tries to be gentle with the kid. He is pretty good in that way, but it causes him to be a little too soft on the kid. He’s just not made for parenting, but he loves the kid nevertheless.
Faith - Is really good at taking care of the kid. She is naturally very nurturing and is very good at caretaking. She is endlessly gentle with the kid and she actually is a little too gentle sometimes. However, when the child pushes her to her limits, she will offer discipline, so she is not entirely a pushover.

how do you think everyone would feel if rook, now the judge, took a bullet for them? :'( somewhere inside them they still remember and want to protect their friends
Thank you so much for the request! Please feel free to send in more! I’m running out of requests, and I’d love to write more for y’all 🥰💖 I take requests for drabbles or reacts as long as they’re platonic 💗
Jess - Finds herself honestly very shocked and while still distrustful, she finds a surprisingly large part of her wanting to help her best friend in hopes that maybe she is still in there somewhere. The Judge never speaks to her, but Jess slowly tries to come to some sort of understanding with her and hopefully convince the Judge to turn back to the deputy that she cared about so much.
Grace - Is terribly surprised when she realizes that it was the Judge that saved her. Her best friend was still in there somewhere, and it renewed her hope in the Judge and for the woman to come back to her senses. She makes a note to try to spend more time with her and talk to her more after that. Even if the Judge will never reply, Grace is not giving up on her.
Sharky - Is very surprised, but is pretty open to talking to her and spending time with her after that. He does not know how to interact with her since she does not speak, but he does his best and tries to get a notepad for her to write down stuff and talk to him if she wants. She never writes anything, but she hums occasionally with contentment when he sometimes reaches out and touches her shoulder. And he supposes that’s good enough for him.
Hurk - Is just happy that she is showing signs of being who she used to be, and does not judge her for how she is now (pun unintended). He is very pleased with the fact that his old friend is showing some piece of herself again and he now wants to try to get her to be like she used to be. He talks incessantly and she never says anything but he knows she’s listening with how she tilts her head in his direction and nods occasionally.
Adelaide - Is very shocked and is much more sympathetic toward her since she sees that a part of that good kid is still left in her deep down. She tries her best to do anything she can to get the Judge to talk despite the fact that the Judge does not ever say anything. She hopes that maybe she can get her to talk to her someday.
Nick - Finds himself shocked to no end and is not sure what to think at this point. He still does not trust her but he is not as mad and hurt as he was before about her becoming the Judge. He sees that she still has some piece of her that is the good person that he remembers. From then on, he is a little kinder to her and tries to remind her of days gone by as he reminisces aloud.
Hudson - Has no idea what got into the Judge but is not questioning it and honestly finds herself growing a little softer toward her. She hopes to be able to pull her Rook out of this husk of a person that was left behind after Joseph’s torture. She knows firsthand how bad such physical torment can be and how it affects one’s mind, and she is willing to try to help Rook heal.
Pratt - Is surprised, but he finds himself very grateful. He starts trying to spend more time with her, and he figures that she likely needs someone to spend time with even if they never talk. He does not exactly know how to speak to her anyway. He understands what brainwashing can do to a person, so he does not try to change her all at once. He just exists with her and hopes for her to make the decision to change on her own.
Faith - Is not surprised at all. She knows the Judge is good. The Judge has only ever wanted to do what she felt was right, and it does not come as a shock to Faith that the Judge would protect her from getting shot. She still holds the Judge’s hand as she would have held Rook’s and she still cares about her friend as much as she used to.

I missed you! Can i ask for the guns for hire reacting to the deputy confessing that joseph is actually their brother? the DRAMA.
Aww 🥺💖 I missed you guys, too! 💗 I hope you enjoy these!
Jess - Is purely and utterly betrayed. It hurts her that Rook did not tell her this sooner, and it causes her to lose a lot of trust in Rook. Rook has to reassure her repeatedly that she is not on her brother’s side and that she is fighting against him. It takes Jess a long time to trust her fully again.
Grace - Is honestly terribly shocked and a little angry at first that Rook did not share this information prior to them traveling together. However, when Rook explains the situation more and tells her the whole truth, Grace is more understanding and is there for the deputy to confide in.
Sharky - Is completely baffled, but is really forgiving really quickly. The fact that her brother is Joseph Seed does not really bother him because he knows that she is on the resistance’s side. Besides, she is his friend and he will never judge her. One does not have a choice when it comes to who is blood relation, so he just bases his opinion of her on her actions.
Hurk - Is very shocked, but quickly starts asking her if she can talk to her brother and try to convince him to allow more fun in the cult. However, once he realizes that she is very adamantly against her brother, he is cool with it and stops asking. He does not really care that Joseph is her brother. He still sees her as the same old deputy.
Adelaide - Is really surprised and is honestly sort of upset about it. But once the deputy explains, she is pretty calm about it. However, she does ask if she can get her some hot dates with some of the better-looking cult men. The deputy of course says no, but Adelaide figures that there is no harm in trying.
Nick - Is extremely angry with her and he refuses to speak to her at all. She has to go to Kim to explain it at all, and once she tells Kim the situation, Kim goes to Nick and explains it to him. He very hesitantly forgives the deputy for not telling him earlier, and he steadily warms back up to her again.

welcome back! <3 would it be ok to ask for the gang reacting to a deputy that just....sucks at singing? it sounds like a dying frog.
Hi! Thank you! I’m glad to be back! 🥰💗And of course! I loved this request! 😊
Jess - Gets under her skin severely, but she bites her tongue as much as she can. She feels sort of sorry for the deputy and knows that the deputy enjoys singing far too much, and she does not have the heart to tell her to stop. So she continues to suffer in silence.
Grace - Simply clenches her jaw and gets through it just as she does everything else-- with perseverance and patience. She also might bring along earplugs when they’re on car rides so she can take naps in the midst of the Deputy very loudly and happily singing along with the radio.
Sharky - Just emphatically sings along. He’s pretty tone-deaf himself, so she sounds perfectly fine to him. To him, when they both sing, they’re perfectly in-sync and they love singing duets together in the abandoned trailer park.
Hurk - Loves to hear her singing and usually sings along. Similarly to Sharky, he is not too picky about singing, and he loves that his best friend feels comfortable sharing her passion for singing with him.
Adelaide - Is somewhat aggravated by it, but is pretty used to it considering the fact that Sharky is her nephew and Hurk is her son. They both drive her crazy with their singing, so she figures what’s one more?
Nick - Usually is up in the air when she starts singing, and she usually does not have her comms on when she’s singing, so he is normally not subjected to the torture. However, when he’s working on Carmina (the plane) in his hangar, he oftentimes has to hear her singing along with the music. He usually just turns up the volume on his radio in an attempt to drown her out. It usually works.
Boomer - Howls along with her. He has never heard a human that sounds so much like him, and he is more than happy to sing along with her. They always have a ton of fun on car rides. However, he can smell the disapproval from other people in the car, but they never say anything aloud, so he is happy to keep singing with his human.
Hudson - Is honestly really irritated by it, but she does her best to grin and bear it. She cares about the deputy enough to avoid saying anything. And besides, many of the songs that the deputy sings are ones that Hudson is well-familiar with and she sometimes sings with her. Hudson doesn’t have the best voice in the world, but she figures that she’ll give singing a try as long as it’s with her favorite deputy.
Pratt - Does not enjoy it at all, but it’s a nice change from “Only You” that haunts the back corners of his mind. She helps to distract him from the whispers of Jacob’s brainwashing, so he’s thankful for her loud, terrible singing.
Faith - Enjoys the sweetness of the spirit behind the voice. She almost always pitches in and sings along with the deputy, trying to keep her from feeling so alone in her singing. She also joins in so that people won’t start yelling at the deputy to shut up, because when their voices blend together, it somehow makes the deputy sound a little better.

Sorry if im bothering u but could u possibly do Jess, Grace, Joey, Pratt, Nick and wheaty reacting to Rook still recovering from Jacob's brainwashing(sorry if this requestis too long >.<) I love your writing btw keep it up!!

Jess -
“Hey, Dep? Girl... Hey, What are you doing?” Jess questioned, furrowing her brow as she slowly came closer to the woman. Rook looked almost inhuman, pacing madly and unhappily as she muttered something under her breath quickly.
Jess came up to her on high-alert, and she tentatively touched Rook’s shoulder. As soon as she made contact, Rook spun toward her, grabbing onto her wrist and starting to twist it the wrong way. As an immediate fight or flight response, Jess punched her hard in the face.
Rook quickly withdrew from her with a yelp, holding her now bleeding nose, and Jess’s eyes widened before she let out a particularly colorful curse and tried to apologize.
“Look, I didn’t mean to whack you,” Jess expressed but was quickly interrupted by the positively haunted look in Rook’s eyes. Jess quieted, watching her wordlessly as she realized that this issue ran much deeper and that it had connections to the torture Rook had gone through not so long ago.
So Jess hesitantly approached and grasped Rook’s shoulder gently.
“Dep... Hey... You’re okay now.”
Grace -
“Deputy, look, you need to calm down,” Grace told Rook, trying to keep her voice level as she eyed the woman. Rook had a wild and crazy look in her eye, continuously repeating words about culling the herd, and breathed far too quickly.
Grace grabbed her shoulders firmly, keeping her in place, and Rook looked almost as if she might snap at any moment. Grace just maintained eye contact.
“You’re better than this! Fight it!” Grace encouraged, making sure not to look away from the woman at any moment as her eyes bored holes into Rook’s. She knew that if she disengaged eye contact that it could trigger Rook into doing something violent, and she wanted to keep this entire thing calm and controlled as possible.
Rook finally started calming her breaths and slowing them, and Grace nodded to her calmly. She did not release the woman until she finally seemed stable enough to avoid doing something crazy. Rook very hesitantly stepped nearer and hugged Grace. Grace stopped for just a moment but quickly returned the embrace, patting Rook’s back fondly.
“You’re strong, Deputy. Don’t let him get the better of you.”
Nick -
He was flying on his plane when he heard her muttering over the intercom. He could tell that she was not really in her right mind as she mindlessly hummed “Only You” under her breath.
“Dep? You okay down there?!” Nick started looking down from his window, trying to spot the woman on the ground even though he realistically would not be able to see her all that well.
However, after a short moment, he was almost hit by a flying RPG, and his eyes widened. He knew it was coming from the general direction that Rook was in, and as he heard her break her humming to say something about culling the herd, he knew what was going on.
“Dep, listen to me! You can fight it! Don’t let Jacob tell you what to do even after he’s in the ground!” Nick cried, trying to make his flying patten a little more erratic to keep her from shooting him and actually landing a hit. He knew she could not help what was taking hold of her right now, but he still was not about to let her shoot him down.
Before long, he started loudly singing some song that he remembered from the radio, trying to drown out the song that she had going in her head.
Soon enough, her humming of the song stopped and her breathing grew more easy. He let out a deep breath, knowing that they had overcome the worst of it.
“Phew... You’re alright, Dep. You almost shot me, but we’re alright.”
Hudson -
“Hey, hey, stop, look at me, Rook,” she nervously grabbed at the deputy, taking her face in her hands as she stopped her from smacking her head against the wall nearby them as the dreaded “Only You” rang out through the room. Rook let out a pained whine, and Joey quickly turned to Tracey.
“Turn that music off! NOW!” Joey practically roared, the fear coursing through her making her tone less than completely friendly, and Tracey ran for the radio to put a stop to it.
The cursed trill of The Platters played through the jail, and Rook was looking increasingly closer to cracking underneath the pressure brought to her by the sound.
However, sweet release was brought upon her as the radio was put to a screeching halt. Rook almost cried out as she collapsed in Joey’s arms, grabbing at her feebly as she shoved her head against the woman’s shoulder. Joey quickly wrapped her arms around her, just holding her steady as she let her cling and ground herself.
“You’re okay, Rook. He can’t hurt you anymore...”
Pratt -
When “Only You” came on the radio, they both were practically crippled together. Pratt immediately grabbed at his head and clawed at his ears as she whined under her breath and tried her best to keep from succumbing to the sound of the music that they both had been conditioned to react to so strongly.
“Agh!!! Somebody turn it off!” he cried, reaching out and grabbing Rook as he tried to calm her in some last-ditch effort. He knew he could not do much good considering the fact that they were both so profoundly affected by the music. Rook grasped at him the best she could, not able to control herself well but trying her best to offer him comfort as well.
Somehow, someone mercifully shut it down, and the both of them collapsed to the floor alongside one another.
Rook grasped him tightly and he held onto her as well, the two of them just hugging it out on the floor like total weirdos as they closed their eyes and tried to slowly overcome the tugs of Jacob’s control over them.
“We’re okay...”

I like to imagine if Rook could talk, they wouldn't have an indoor voice. Just constantly shouting. But they're a total sweetheart. A total sweetheart who has no idea they are constantly shouting.
'ARE YOU OKAY?! THAT PROBABLY HURT A LOT!!!! DO YOU WANT ME TO CARRY YOU OVER MY SHOULDER?!! I DO NOT MIND CARRYING YOU OVER MY SHOULDER!!!!! THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS DO!!!!!!!'
So yeah. The gang reacting to a total sweetheart Rook who is constantly shouting please? <3 <3
Hi! Sorry it took me so long to get to this one! I’m actually coming back to this fandom for a little while, so feel free to send in more react requests! 🥰💗
Jess - Is at first extremely annoyed by the shouting and makes several comments about scaring wildlife and giving away their position. However, as time passes, she realizes that when one concentrates on the message in the midst of the shouting, Rook is being extremely sweet and saying kind things that Jess had never had heard from anyone before about herself. She eventually grows accustomed to the volume of Rook’s voice and if anyone complains, she’s the first to defend her.
Grace - Is honestly not sure what to make of her high energy shouting, but quickly figures out that it’s just the manner in which she communicates. She would like a little peace sometimes, but she never says as much to Rook. She would never want to hurt her feelings and she does appreciate how sweet Rook is. Even if she’s painfully loud all the time.
Sharky - Loves the energy and is pretty much used to the loudness because Hurk is always really loud. He is perfectly good with the noise, and the fact that she’s shouting compliments and kindnesses to him makes him absolutely melt from happiness.
Hurk - Similarly to Sharky, absolutely adores the energy and is shouting right alongside her. He loves the hyperactivity of it, and he personally likes to communicate with lots of shouting and yelling because it was what he was raised around, so he feels right at home.
Adelaide - Is pretty used to lots of noise, and does not really mind it so much. She loves the fact that Rook is so nice, but the volume of those niceties does not bother her as much as it would most people. She’s just thankful that Rook is yelling sweet words because when people have yelled at her in the past, it has usually been the exact opposite of kind words.
Nick - Is not really bothered by it and appreciates the sentiment. He has lost a little of his hearing from working with planes for so long, and her yelling is not quite as loud to him as it is to other people. He actually appreciates her speaking up a little since it helps him more clearly discern what she’s saying more often.
Hudson - Is used to it by now, but at first was really put off by it. However, when she discovered how nice that Rook was and that Rook truly does not realize that she’s yelling, Joey warmed up to her and now will sometimes yell nice things back at her.
Pratt - Is not too fond of the yelling, but goes along with it. As he gets to know her, he gets used to it and doesn’t mind it so much. He likes that she is emphatic about the many nice things she says, but he does wish she would keep it down some.
Faith - Is shocked at the volume of Rook’s voice but is alright with it mostly. She is okay with high energy despite the fact that she is somewhat calmer herself. She loves the things that Rook says to her, and everything that she so lovingly and emphatically shouts makes Faith feel so appreciated.

My OC Junior Deputy Barbara Rook’s Backstory
Junior Deputy Barbara Rook is twenty-six years old, and comes from an idealistic family of four in a county next to Hope County. Her father James was a doctor and her mother Carla stayed at home to take care of her and her brother. Barbara’s brother Samuel is older than her and has always been the perfect big brother. He also was the perfect child and was following directly in their father’s footsteps. Their father also wanted Barbara to be a doctor, too, but she never had the drive nor the desire to become one.
During high school, Barbara met Joey Hudson, her best friend in the entire world and definitely without a shadow of a doubt the cool older sister figure even though Barbara didn’t really see her that way consciously. It was because of Joey that Barbara found her true calling. When high school was over, Joey went to a police academy and got a job in Hope County. Barbara missed her terribly, but fortunately, when her father wanted her to go to college, Barbara was able to find a college in Hope County that could cover her bare minimum for core requirements before actually entering courses for her major. It was then that she moved in with Joey and they became roommates, which they both were very excited about.
Not too long after that, Staci was introduced in the picture and he met Barbara for the first time because he started working in the force after Joey. Barbara at first did not like him and thought he was a jerk because he was way too inclined to insult her in some manner or another under the guise of a poorly conceived joke. However, when she got to know him, she ended up pretty fond of him, and the three started spending a lot of time together.
For a long time, they were all friends (with Joey and Barbara being closest to one another). However, after about two years, Barbara had to move away once again to pursue her father’s dream for her and to find a college that had the sort of education she needed to become a doctor. Joey was terribly upset when she found out that Barbara had to go. Especially since Joey knew that Barbara was not enthused about a career as a doctor. Joey begged her to stay and to talk to her dad, but Barbara told her that she had no other choice and that her father would be horribly disappointed if she did not become a doctor.
And so Joey and her stayed in touch, calling one another every night and meeting in-person as often as possible. They did not want to lose their sisterhood and they tried their best to keep it alive. Fortunately, they could not be broken apart by distance and their love for each other remained the same as always even though they both changed. Barbara began to sink into the depths of depression and lack of motivation while Joey suddenly grew very odd and strange and quickly began to avoid discussing anything to do with her days at work and instead talking about the rumors of a cult starting to spread through Hope County.
Several years passed, and one fateful morning Barbara just woke up, looked in the mirror, and realized that she was not happy with the drained, depressed, bedraggled looking person that was gazing back at her. So after some thought, she called Joey and told her to come pick her up because she couldn’t take another day of this misery. Joey eagerly jumped at the opportunity, and between her and Barbara, they had the car packed quickly and Barbara just left. It was that day that she told her father how unhappy she was and how she did not want to dedicate her life to being a doctor. He was angry at first and immediately wanted to know what she planned to do with her life. Upon a pure impulse, she replied to him that she wanted to protect people and become a member of the police force in Hope County.
It took some arguing and some time alone for them both for things to finally settle down. He ended up supporting her, wanting what was best for her even if it was not what he wanted for her.
And that was where the journey began.
It was not too long after her time in the police academy that the cult started increasingly becoming a bigger issue. Of course, they were nowhere near the scale that they became in the end, but there were several suspicions about them kidnapping and murdering people. However, there was not much Barbara could do about any of this since she started her time at the police force as a lowly desk person since they would not allow her any real work as an officer just yet.
However, as the cult grew and the cops began to investigate more, people in the force began dying and disappearing. They were running low on staff, so Barbara was offered a hefty promotion to Junior Deputy. Of course, she was stunned, but very excited by the prospects. She would finally be taking action for once.
But her enthusiasm was soon very much dulled when her brother was brutally murdered by the one and only wrathful, torturous John Seed. Barbara was devastated and she would numbly shuffle through her day and at night she would cry herself to sleep oftentimes in Joey’s arms, needing her best friend there for her since she lost one of the most important people in her life.
Eventually her sadness evolved to intense anger. Shortly after that, Burke came along and her first real opportunity at doing actual field work came along in the form of arresting Joseph Seed.
During the interim of her time fighting the cult after that, her older brother’s wife died and their daughter Sarah Rook (who was less than one year old at the time) was left alone to fend for herself. So Barbara immediately took responsibility for her, trying to juggle being a good aunt/mother, saving Hope County, and spending time with her found family. Fortunately, Sarah came into her care around the time that the cult was almost completely destroyed, so she soon had one less beast to wrestle.
And so goes the complicated life of Barbara Rook.

can we please have GFH reacting to rook just casually pulling out a guitar and playing some songs during downtime? thank you~
Aww, that’s such a sweet and calming mental image 😌💖💖💖
Thank you so much for the request, and I hope you enjoy! 🥰💗💗💗
Jess - Is honestly pretty shocked when she sees Rook pick up the guitar and start plucking "Stairway to Heaven" on it. She quietly listens, carving at some wood with her knife, and when Rook finally finishes, Jess is silent for a few moments before asking her if she could play "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" since it's one of her favorites (she'd kill Rook if that secret was ever revealed). From then on, whenever they're quietly spending time together, Rook will start off her guitar sessions with "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" just for Jess.
Grace - Is absolutely and incredibly surprised, but just smiles softly, enjoying the music. She particularly likes the calming sounds of the guitar. Something about it just makes her heart warm and causes good memories to resurface in her mind. It is an excellent way to unwind, and whenever they are just relaxing before going to bed for the night when they're at Fall's End or camping in a safe area, Grace will sometimes ask Rook if she minds playing a little something. Of course, Rook always obliges.
Sharky - Is immediately taken with it and quickly asks if she knows how to play an electric guitar. She says that the theory is pretty much the same and that she could try it. As soon as he hears this, he very excitedly runs inside Boshaw Manor and drags out an electric guitar, giving it to her quickly and waiting excitedly like a little kid as he waits for her to make the music. It's a little rough at first because there are a few differences between acoustic and electric, but he is thrilled and tells her how awesome she is. In the future when she's at his place, he always brings the electric guitar to her and asks her to bless him with her rock and roll goddessness.
Hurk - Absolutely loves the music, and tells her how awesome she is for knowing how to play. He actually sort of wants to know how to play himself, so he asks her if she could teach him. Of course, she agrees and they start their lessons quickly afterward. After that, whenever they are together and she has an opportunity, she shows him how to play on her guitar. Strangely enough, he soon gets pretty good with it.
Adelaide - Is pretty shocked that she has any idea how to play a guitar. For some reason, Adelaide would have never pictured the other woman as someone who could play a musical instrument. But she really likes the sound as soon as Rook starts playing and if it's a song she knows, she hums along. From then on, Adelaide oftentimes challenges her and asks if she knows a song and if she can play it. Rook always takes her up on them.
Nick - Is really happy and he actually knows how to play, too. Sometimes the both of them start playing together and it makes for a beautiful harmony. At first, they play guitar together when they're alone, but once they have mastered the technique, they start playing in front of the rest of the group. They're a big hit with the gang and they oftentimes play at night under the stars with a big bonfire nearby where everyone can spend time together and have fun.
Hudson - Is not surprised. After all, she and Rook have known each other for some time now even before their time in the police force, and she actually knew Rook when she started taking guitar lessons in high school. Rook would actually make Joey listen to her practice to tell her if something sounded right or not. Joey frequently teases her when Rook pulls out the guitar and asks if Rook is reverting back into her angsty heavy metal emo phase. Rook never appreciates that statement, though.
Pratt - Is a surprised when she does it even though he knew she could play because that is always her go-to excuse for when they play Guitar Hero on PS4 (she always insists that playing on the little handheld controller is so much different than the real guitar). The surprise largely stems from the fact that he has never seen her actually do it. So he just quietly enjoys her playing when she showcases her talent.
Faith - Is utterly enchanted by the sound, and absolutely loves it. She always loves to hear the sound of an acoustic guitar, and for Rook to play it so masterfully just excites her so much. She'll immediately stop whatever she's doing to come and listen to Rook whenever she starts playing. Faith will sit down near her and prop herself up as she just watches carefully. Sometimes Rook will play "Amazing Grace" and the two will sing together.
