Sometimes I wonder how other people
Can’t put up with life
So they drink and do drugs
But then I remember that my gf broke up with me
And I gained 30 pounds
Because I could not stop eating sweets
As balm for my aching soul
The sweetness in my mouth
The crunch of the chocolate nuts
It was happiness
Or at least a distraction
From the sadness that I could not face
It’s no wonder that people drink
It’s no wonder that people do drugs
Because we’ve been taught that consumption
Is the cure to what ails us
So we buy and consume
Until we’ve lost what made us healthy

Tailored Fantasy
I was just a fantasy you had
A fancy that took you
Built up to be what you wished for
I fit you into the fantasy of my wishes
Where I make a woman president
And we fix the country
I thought you were perfect
Because you are already popular
And you could win
You thought I was perfect
Because I knew more than you hoped
But you could show me all the ropes
And it would be special that way
I don’t think our fantasies are wrong
I just think they are a starting place
For what will actually come

I Tried because You Cried
It’s funny that I tried
But you cried out
And I tried to answer
Parallel lives
Not crossing under circumstances
Normal to life
But I heard these songs
And thought
‘That’s where I belong’
If I didn’t try to respond
It would make it impossible
So I tried
In another world line
We met and married
You and I had children
Three at least
You ran for senator
And then six years later
You became president
You went two terms
Reformed healthcare
Reformed taxes
Reformed housing
Reformed wages
You inspired the rich
To pay taxes or donate it the poor
Because if they didn’t
They’d be sore in hell
You had the authority
When you left office
You started charity organizations
That moved to connect people
To the lives they deserved
You kept performing
While in office
You kept performing
For your fans
And fed the fever that changed the world
I was by your side throughout
Guiding you with instincts
Honed from many lifetimes
We discarded the dregs
And inspired the rest
We grew old together
Prolonging the reaper
Making the choices
That led to happiness and fulfillment
We built with our hands
A world that we would be happy
To leave to our children
And their children
And us again when we returned again
That’s the life we lived in another line
Because you dropped a line
And I picked it up
Who knows if it would be this one
But at least the possible happened
Somewhere somehow
It is beautiful
And I fear too wonderful
To exist where we are
They would try to tear us apart
They would try to kill what we would bare
But we would survive
And we would thrive
The future holds what we carry now
Let it be born in the place it needs

Call You Cassandra
Call you Cassandra
Cuz you saw my demise
And tried to warn me
But couldn’t change my end
Call you Cassandra
Cuz you saw the future
And still became
My closest friend
Call you Cassandra
Because a person who reads fate
Yet still attends the date
Is called Cassandra
It’s not a curse
It’s a moniker
A harbinger
Of the chronicler
Of time that will come

Swift Love
I must have played games in my dreams
Because you keep singing about schemes
I don’t remember
I don’t recall
I still claim I did it all
Ha, it was me
It was all me
It was all you
You are resplendent
You have the following
You have the pedigree
You have the words
You have the heart
You have the art
We can make a start
Take the world
Fix it up
Take the wounds
And stitch em up
Take the pieces
And pick em up
The mess we can fix
The life we could have
The effort we can give
The transgressions we forgive
I’m not a perfect man
I’m not what you could wish for
I’m not who you pray for
But I’m what you desire
I’m the fuel for that fire
You would meet me
You might leave me
But that touch of our lives
Would change us
For the rest of our lives

Love Song Delusion
What if the person you were singing about
Was me?
What if the man you were crooning for
Was me?
And I heard you
And knew
That despite who you
That smile you had
Was for me
We were so far apart
In station
In life paths
But I heard you singing
And knew I was the one
You were longing for
I know I can’t reach you
But I can’t help but think
That I was the one
Your love song was for

Just in a Moment
Didn’t you know
How I felt
When I saw you
I was down sad
But there you were
Uplifted me with vision
Happiness
Fulfillment
Achievement
Children
Legacy
I saw it all
When I saw you
I just knew
I wanted you
I had to hold you
If only for a moment

Furnace Fire
The love I wished for
The longing in my heart
I found it in you
You filled me with wonder
How could I be so lucky
You filled me to fullness
Never looking elsewhere
The life we build
Gladdens me every second
The arguments we have
Feed the fire in my heart
It builds in me
Feeding the furnace of devotion
The motions the go through
Is a dance that mesmerizes
They look at us and wish
‘I should have they have’
They think and we smile
For we know that kind of love

I read something that creating something new
Takes something out of you
If you are not successful or lauded
It can leave you broken
Exposing your soul to the world
Is a frighteningly vulnerable experience
Something about creation
Saps one of their creative spark
If it’s not fed with encouragement

Why is it called populism when normal people want government resources to benefit them
But it isn’t called anything when government resources only benefit the wealthy

Generational Debt and Expectations
I am furious that older generations got the economy and the environment to this horrible state
And then expect younger generations to fix everything in passing conversation
But do not give us the ability or resources to fix what they broke
Like there is still lead in our water and food
There are forever chemicals in all bodies of water on earth and even in clouds
There are microplastics in everything
The environment is in crisis already and only going to get worse
And all economic data is so cooked that we can’t even acknowledge how fucked the economy is
Younger generations can’t even get educated without falling into massive debt
All of our housing options are out of reach for the majority
Jobs pay a pittance to never allow breathing room
All political leaders are either geriatric or callous and often both
Bribery is legal in the US and it’s not even talked about like it’s a problem that our system is completely corrupt
We don’t have a justice system, we have a legal system that is leveraged to control and oppress normal people by the wealthy
How do our parents expect us to fix and continue the current system when it has completely failed us?

American Politics
Republicans are on the right
They want the freedom to oppress
Oppress the working class as the rich
Oppress women as the patriarchy
Oppress minorities as white people
Democrats are on the left
The want freedom from oppression
Freedom to unionize as the working class
Freedom of reproduction as women
Freedom of rights as minorities
It comes down to whether you believe in your rights of freedom and what that means.

Experience of Total Eclipse
The sun when partially occluded
Still shines as bright
As though full
Looking through special glasses
Makes you blind to the world
But you can still see the sun
Orange glowing star
With the moon slowly covering it
The more it got covered
The cooler the air got
The clouds whisked away
The sun no longer supporting them
The surroundings started to look like dusk
The birds quieted and crickets came out
Vultures circled a carcass on the golf course
As the sun got more and more covered
It went from looking like a crescent moon
Glowing orange like a halo
To looking like a sliver
To looking like a wisp
Then an arc of sun flare
And last a diamond of light
When totality arrived
I pressed a timer start button
Gasped as I saw it
It was floating light
Gentle to the eyes
I rushed to pull my phone out
To capture this rapturous image
But my phone failed to capture
The most beautiful thing
I’ve ever seen in my life
It is ethereal light
Transparent to the void
Floating around the moon
As though three dimensional
I felt a chill on the back of my neck
My hairs standing on end
It was as though I knew in my soul
That this is the most beautiful thing
I’ve ever beheld in this life
It was over too soon
Even though it lasted four minutes
A bright diamond appeared at five o clock
And I rushed to put on my glasses
As my alarm rang in my ears
It was like nothing I’ve ever seen
Surpassing grandeur that we emulate
On this world
If there are aliens
I’m sure they would love to come here
To witness this beauty
So rare in this universe

Woke up to shaking
At 10:23
My awards from fencing
We’re shaking like leaves from a tree
Earthquake in New Jersey
Not often seen or felt
But on April 5th
We got a 4.8
Shaken in our wealth
