So, as I promised, let’s take a quick look at the creative process behind my personal interpretation of Poseidon from the world of Percy Jackson ✨🔱

(Mhh it’s too long as a name, I have no idea if it could be interesting but I would like to publish others soon, if so let me know in the comments!✨)

So, Poseidon, our favorite Hawaiian dressed god. After a bit of digging around the internet in fanarts and fandom, I noticed that people really like to show him looking like a fairly young man, and I have to say, guys, I too would have LOVED to see Logan Lerman as our friendly Sea God in the TV Show but honestly, while he may have all the charm needed, I don’t think he 100% matches my idea of Poseidon based on how he is described to us by Uncle Rick.

It’s true he is an extremely charming and handsome man, as Sally points out to us several times in the books, BUT personally I have always given more importance to his role as a loving but cryptic father, mysterious as the sea, and I have tried to push that direction.🧐

So I started with a powerful, but not exaggerated, physique, I wanted to recreate that type of solemn and divine presence that I believe Tobey Stephens brought to perfection in the TV series.

Once I had built this type of physique, I tried to give him characteristics that referred to the sea, to his movement with thick and wavy hair and beard, and to his enigmatic expressiveness, on which I wanted to focus particularly. For me it was important to try to capture the fickleness of the sea, and therefore of a god capable of going from happiness to anger in a second, remaining mostly in a mysterious gray area in between.🌊

So, as I said recently I want to do some tests trying different things, so here’s a little comic from the chapter ‘I settle my tab’ from Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief ⚡️

(let me know if you like the idea so in case I’ll start preparing more ✨)

Percy is simply iconic in every one of his lines and I wanted to try to play with a Percy who was still at the beginning of his journey.

Furthermore, I admit that I LOVE playing with the character design of the characters following their descriptions in the books, and Poseidon is no exception! Trying to represent the aspects that Rick Riordan highlights, such as his mysterious and indecipherable side or his fisherman-in-Hawaiian-dress look, is just too much fun. :D

I’m considering whether to also post some of my sketchbook pages, because I want to share with you part of the creative process behind the way I represent the characters, which I personally find the most fun and creative part behind every illustration or drawing I work on.

I can’t wait to see how they will make the story and the characters, but from the trailers even just Camp Half-Blood looks exactly like I imagined reading the books :D

Bob and Small Bob ✨

I have to say that I find Bob to be quite an underrated character, he’s actually a great one! I think that his role after The Sun and The Star is even more particular, after all in the last books of the Riordanverse we have no longer heard of the titans and it’s nice to see how Bob perfectly embodies the concept of change that the book proposes to us
