Hi, Ruebear here,

So, I am super terrible at sharing my opinion online (I’m just someone who doesn’t see the point) but there’s been a lot going on about the most rcent AtLA news that just dropped.

Here’s my two pence on it. What if, and here me out, it all turns out being good?

*throws hands up* here me out before you start @ing! I’m not here to start any fights, I just want to focus on something outside of shippng, outside of fanbases. This is simply how I view this situation.

I love AtLA OG series, and I love Korra. I might think Zuko and Katara make the better couple as a writer, but as a consumer I love Tenzin, Bumi and Kya so much that I can’t say I dislike Katara and Aang together either. So, that’s ONE version of somehing that’s so good!

I’m looking forward to Netflix’s live action adaption, and, while trepidatious over the most recent changes (especially Katara’s aging up in regards to how it impacts her character growth) an adaption is about personal spin, so I’m open to seeing how it goes. And, as to what it does impact, all I can say is those of you have read my fic, you know I won’t shy away from Zutara - so long as it is done well, and respects the original source material’s themes and messages on war, mercy, peace, change, and so much more. So, that’s TWO versions of something that’s so good!

And now I have a whole extended universe with content potentially spanning years, new characters, maybe time dedicated to exploring old ones. So, that’s THREE versions of something that’s so good!

You know what’s barely crossed my mind in all of this? The Live Action movie. To paraphrase the words of Smithy from Gavin and Stacey, “...that movies pointless, I won’t touch it!”

So, to close this opinion post, I’m just so thankful I get three versions of something amazing, three different takes, three different endings. Personally, as a fan of this series, I feel spoiled.

Hold it Gently; a Teaser

In the run up to the final chapter of the Hold it Gently Saga (Name pending - if anyone has any idea’s shoot me up cause I suck at names) I thought I’d put out a little teaser for the final chapter of my Book One: Zutara Revised Canon.

Hope you guys like it.

Katara’s open hand strikes the grass hard and insistent, becoming a fist when her rage refuses to ebb. Sokka doesn’t bother to try and stop her, letting this episode burn itself out before he intervenes. Yue watches her without a sound. As usual, her silence speaks volumes.

“He took him!” Katara’s fist strikes and clenches the singed grass. “Right out from under me! Zuko took Aang and I couldn’t do anything!”

Fingers close over her shoulder, too weak to hold on when Katara throws them off. But they come back, gripping without being insistent, until she finally wilts under Yue’s pale sympathetic eyes. They wait until they know they have Katara’s attention, then cast around them. “This doesn’t look like nothing,” she whispers of the ruined Oasis.

Katara would feel bad for the desecration if she weren’t so furious. “It wasn’t enough.”

“Enough to push a master firebender to the brink, under an incomplete moon no less.”

Katara looks at the destruction she and Zuko caused; ruts in the ground, burnt grass, craters in the earth filled with her growing, disastrous power. Jeong Jeong thought fire only burned and water only healed. Let him see this and still be so naïve. She stands amidst it now, and Sokka stops his surveying to look over at her.

“Zuko better pray we get Aang back before it rises.”

“Never thought I’d fear for that moody ashhole’s life,” Sokka quips, void of his usual humour. He comes and puts his hand on her shoulder. “You did everything you could, and now we need to do everything we can to get him back.” He squeezes. “Zuko can't have gotten far. We'll find him. Aang's gonna be fine.”

She can’t say the same of Zuko. Not when she gets her hands on him.

I pinched a nerve in my neck/shoulder yesterday and I’ve just spent three hours hunched over my desk to finish a chapter for Hold it Gently: Book Two (title changed to avoid spoilers). Am I in pain, yes. Was it worth it? Definitely 🤣
