Story: Reaper’s Helper

A reaper chose me to be his apprentice so long ago I can't remember when I started. I don't mind it makes me feel… important and special, because I get to see people in their last moments, how they act and who really cares in the end. In the flow of time I have witnessed some of the most touching, painful, and meaningful deaths. I watched a mother hold her new born baby as he slowly stops crying and goes limp, the mother crying softly. I saw a boy run to stop his sister from running in the street as she is hit by a bus, later he was found in a near by ally screaming that it was all his fault. I remember a man as a received a phone call saying his wife and children were killed in a house fire and as he fell to his knees in the middle of the sidewalk. I witnessed a group of men run into battle and to protect the rest, a lone man shoved them down and killed an unseen bomber, but not without killing himself. I saw a man who was a gun for hire kill himself because of the overwhelming guilt. Death is an important part of the cycle of life. Life gives death many presents and death always keeps them. The reaper has no feelings and just does his job without faltering, but I can't help, but cry when I see a death that would move the most stone hearted person. Just keep it in your thoughts, the fact that life is short so be with the people you love and treat others with a tender heart because you don't know what their going through. Death comes swiftly so don't die with a heart filled with regret.

What happened in September… In the cold rainy weather.… As I watched the leaves fall I don't want to remember at all…. The sky was grey, ground stained red I fell to the ground and clutched my head.   Why can't I forget… like a ever glowing ember… Why can't I forget what happened in September.
