Although accurate, Nimona's eyes narrowed at Ballister's assertion because it wasn't something she enjoyed discussing. The shapeshifter took a minute to put her head on her knees. Normally, Nimona would refuse to reveal such things but he was the only one who truly deserved to hear the truth. Up until this time, Ballister had adhered to all of Nimona's eccentric ideas. The only person who never disapproved of her for being this way. Everyone else had treated her like...a Monster.

"It was just another ordinary day while I was flying around when I saw a small girl throwing pebbles into a bucket. If people found out the truth about me, I knew they would treat me differently. Even at a young age, children are instructed to …drive a sword through the heart of any monster that threatens them...They perceived any creature they failed to understand being a danger to their way of life. I'm not even awful; I'm just different, and they despise me for it."

Nimona winced; despite the fact that she detested the name, it was the only way that people would ever refer to her as she grew older. It made no difference how kind she was or how far Nimona would go. All they saw was the shape-shifter, not a young child making an effort to take on the persona with which she was most at ease. The girl paused for a moment and then did her best to explain her background. She gave off the impression of tremendous energy, but it was only a facade designed to conceal how exhausting it was for her to pretend to be someone she wasn't.

"I never asked to be this way, to be seen as a monster. It's why I've been looking for you. Someone who was unfairly judged.I know I said I wanted to be your sidekick, and I really do, but…it gets lonely. When people see you as a villain, that’s all they will ever see. I know I get so excited cause chaos but, it's just a way to focus the hurt I feel."

Nimona avoided talking about her past since she felt like it only made the pain worse. It even made the little girl ponder letting the people thrust that sword through her chest, but now wasn't the time to think about that. The pink-haired shape shifter leapt up and went to the 'not murder' wall, shaking her head. Reaching up, she let her hand rest on a photograph of her and Ballister.

"I know how it feels to be betrayed, especially by individuals you consider friends…I know you aren't a bad guy, but sometimes I just wanted someone else to understand how I've been treated for so long. When people look at me, the only thing they see is a villain. They never take the time to get to know me."

Perhaps being betrayed by someone she believed was a friend caused Nimona to remove herself from people. After all, even Ballister was taken aback by her abilities, which she couldn't blame them for. There were just a few moments she needed to transform, and if she didn't, she would perish. She returned to Ballister after grabbing the photograph.

"So..I understand how it feels to be betrayed by someone you trusted. To experience moments of pure joy only to have them shattered by a tragic turn of events. I know you and the golden knight were close, based on how you behaved with him. He is the one…" Nimona came to a halt as she looked at Ballister's mechanical arm. It wasn't a memory either of them wanted to revisit, but she needed him to know that someone actually understood how difficult it was to be called a bad guy.

There Nimona goes again, trying her best to avoid any further talk about her past. Hopefully it would work, but deep down she knew Ballister was observant.

While I'm going to go ahead with it, I want to see how many of you guys might be interested in the event itself and what roles might intrigue you.

But to start, a big bang event is this:

A Big Bang is a specific type of challenge involving long fics and accompanying artwork. This type of challenge is a reprise of the old zine tradition of collaboration between artists and writers for internet fandoms. Most Big Bangs have a similar format: Writers sign up and begin writing stories. When the early drafts of the stories are available, each one is assigned one or more artists, or artists might claim stories from posted summaries. Artists create fanart to go along with the story. This art can take the form of illustrations, manips, photo collages, vids, icon sets, etc.

So I just watched the trailer for dreamworks new movie: The Wild Robot, and I have to say I am actually so obsessed with it already for a number of reasons!...

- I love the concept; a robot trying to survive the wild and learning such a soul touching lesson of life

- Its a new idea, which honestly we've been lacking in animated movies lately if im being completely honest. Its interesting and immediately caught my attention

- it was created by dreamworks, to me this is a direct thumbs up because I don't think dreamworks disappoints that often

- the trailer was beautifully animated in that newer style that i adore (seen in movies like Nimona and into the spiderverse); with amazing nature scenes that were relaxing to the eye

-the music sounds so familiar to the well known How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack (which holds a very special place in my heart btw) and this is because it was also created by the same people!

-the cast looks great with icons like Lupita Nyong'o, Pedro Pascal, and even Catherine O'Hara. But I'm most excited for Kit Connor, who also acts as nick Nelson in heartstopper! (I believe he will be the voice of the robot too, but its unclear atm)

- Its based on a book series. In my experience, when books are made into movies (especially by dreamworks) it turns out beautifully. Plus, bow I have a new series that I actually want to read!

Generally it just looks like such a wonderful movie. I'm super excited for it and I'm going to try to read the books before it comes out. Just everything about it seems great and I hope it does well! Please go watch the trailer its super amazing!!

I haven't read the book so I'm going off of what I saw in the movie.

If the scene with Gloreth and Nimona is literally the big bad battle everyone talks about then what the fuck. It was a story that's over a thousand years old that was greatly exaggerated to make Nimona out to be the villain. Making a child the icon of a revolution. Pretending that these weren't two children with wooden swords who were hurt and scared.

Like it makes me so sad because it's tragic for both. Gloreth was never a horrible person who was a bigot, she was just a child doing what adults told her to. She was shoved into the light and made out to be this hero in shining armor with a sword.

Look if Disney actually DID end up releasing Nimona as they intended it to be, we wouldve gotten Raya and the Last Dragon.

So many nuances and plot points in Nimona would've gotten translated into what became RATLD.

Friends to sword fighting enemies to friends again, with homosexual undertones? Raya. Found family in inconvenient circumstances? Raya. Cheesy animal based humor and changing forms from animal to human? Still Raya.

But here's the thing. One of these movies is amazing and stunning and conveys such a beautiful and heartfelt story and the other one is Raya. You forget Raya a couple days after watching it at max.

Raya, or just Disney themselves, were cowardly. While two female strong POC leads should've been insanely revolutionary, it was cowardly. The most liberty Disney was ACTUALLY willing to take with these characters is make them a little mean and throw out some jokes, cashing out on that reputation rather than exploring it or making it mean... anything. Stakes were low despite seeming high, the movie left you with little feeling. Like you've seen it before and you will again and nothing is really that revolutionary.

If Disney had released Nimona, we would've just gotten RATLD. Ballister and Ambrosius wouldn't have said "I love you" or forgiven each other and absolutely wouldn't have kissed, because Raya and Namaari hardly came close to ANY of that. Nimona wouldn't have said "But i'm not a girl, i'm a Shark" or any of her iconic lines, because there was absolutely no way Disney would've let Sisu say "But im not a girl, im a dragon."

What is a Big Bang?: A Big Bang is a specific type of challenge involving long fics and accompanying artwork. This type of challenge is a reprise of the old zine tradition of collaboration between artists and writers for internet fandoms. Most Big Bangs have a similar format: Writers sign up and begin writing stories. When the early drafts of the stories are available, each one is assigned one or more artists, or artists might claim stories from posted summaries. Artists create fanart to go along with the story. This art can take the form of illustrations, manips, photo collages, vids, icon sets, etc.

Why is the timeline so long?: The reasoning being, I want there to be enough time for people to handle stuff at home and not to feel rushed about this event. I know life can get in the way, and if it does, you have time to focus on other things and still get back to this. I'm also taking into account those who might be making longer stories, and need more time.

What happens if no artist picks your writing? Do not worry! Anyone who is participating as a main writer will get paired with an artist. What we plan to do is the artist will pick three of the writers they want to make art for, and we will pick from there.

Traditional art is allowed right? Yes! Traditional art is allowed! We don't want only digital artists to participate because what's the point of making an event about inclusion and not include people who prefer a certain art style, or that is the only route they can take. If you do go this route though, you will either need to know how to scan to your computer, or get an image clear enough on your phone/tablet to post along side your paired writer.

Is a discord/twitter required? Nope! We do have a twitter page, we do have a discord server, but they are not required, they just get more information to you (the twitter page will be strictly for posting because Nimona traction there is not great). We do suggest joining the discord if you want to brainstorm with other potential nimona big bang participants though!

Is tumblr required? This is also not required, though it is easier to follow along if you do have an account. But, like a couple questions down, if you have a limited selection of socials to communicate with, we will pair you with someone who has a similar communication method as you so you don't have to forfeit the event!

I want to participate in two roles, but I might need to drop out of one due to life scheduling conflicting. What do you suggest I handle this? One, it's okay to drop out if life gets in the way. This is a fandom event, not a job or a requirement. Two, if you feel as though you will have trouble meeting due date requirements for either role, let the mod for that role know so we can work out what the best course of action would be. Especially if it is closing towards the due date for dropping out.

I have a very limited selection of socials to communicate with! What do I do? When pairing concludes and we send out the emails to the participants, there will be a list of socials that they put into the form for you to choose from. And, if you don't have a similar social, there is always the email that you guys can go back and forth with as well. However, we will try to keep similar socials matched up with artist and writer.

Is the event allowed for 18+ only? Not at all, this event is for everyone who is able/wants to participate. However, if there is a nsfw fic being written, we will pair artists who are 18+ with that writer.

Summaries are due in mid-april, but am I allowed to start working on the actual writing before that? For your writing, as long as you don’t share the writing prompts, unless in the discord server under the event category, you can totally work on the story. I would definitely help if you wanted to provide an excerpt when we ask for them when we get stuff rolling for the pairings.

Do I need to send a summary to anyone before I start writing? When sending a summary, if you have already signed up for the big bang, keeping an eye on your email when the writer and artist signups are closed is a huge thing because we will contact with participants though there.

Are multi-chapters allowed, or should it be strictly a oneshot? As long as you reach the 5,000 word minimum, if multiple chapters works best for your story, then by all means, make it a multi-chapter.

Are OCs allowed? Yes as long as the main three characters (Ambrosius, Ballister and Nimona) are still the main focus/are not turned into side characters for the story.

I might mention drug use of some kind in my writing, or have a dark undertone, is that alright? Yes NSFW content is allowed. But note that NSFW content is not limited to just sex scenes. It can be high violence where someone dies in great detail, alcohol use, drug use, even graphic details regarding self harm. If you do plan to include this type of content and are underage (under the 17- category) I would rethink your story and how oh are going to deliver it because too much detail will trail into the NSFW category and will require an 18+ participant to finish writing.

Wanted to know if the writers will be allowed to write any story whatsoever, or will they be given a certain prompt or theme? No certain prompts or themes needed to follow, but there is no rape or non-con allowed! It is a touchy subject and I do not want to trigger anyone with the subject. I'm going to go ahead and say Dub-con is also off the table because it can go intrude out of the gray area very quickly.

I know I'm 18+, but I'd still like to not do anything explicit, like sex or violence. I hope that's ok? Absolutely. If you are uncomfortable with a topic as an artist, then don't pick it. If you want to avoid the nsfw options altogether, just send one of the mods a message so we can ensure you get the 17- layout which will not have any nsfw options. Otherwise, we will read the 18+ and email and send you all the options, which you can still vote to not work with.

I'd like to be a writer in the Big Bang, but I don't have anyone to beta read my works yet, and I was wondering if writers will be paired up with beta readers or if we have to find our own We do have beta sign ups and hope to have a 2:1 ratio of betas to writers so there is one beta per two writers. This is for cases such as your own. So, don't worry! However, if you do get a beta outside of the event, please let us know so we can mark that down before the 4th check-in.

The way that the animals just instinctively knew nimona was different from them really breaks my heart

The animation was so so so so lovely! You could just tell the team really put their heart and soul into this movie!!!

I don't know if the story was matching the book (I will soon though I'm ordering that baby) but it was really lovely to watch this movie!

It matched my expectations! I wish there was more! Honestly I think nimona would have been perfect as a mini series! Not because the pacing was bad!!! I just wished we could have had more time with these characters you know!!

11-5-23 Five Nights At Freddy’s (2023) :) I’ve been waiting for this ever since I was 13 and I had so much fun watching it. This was a highlight of my year!

11-12-23 Corpse Bride (2005) Really really good Tim Burton Halloween movie with so much stylization. So much fun to watch!!!! And so ethereal at times. MUST WATCH

11-12-23 Frankenweenie (2012) Very cute but disappointing ending, too safe. It could have been more impactful if they pushed it further. Watched this after corpse bride and the parallels were FUNNY.

12-24-23 Tangled (2010) (old rewatch) I forgot how good this movie was. ACTUALLY PEAK and so fun to revisit. Such a fresh take on a fairytale story, great songs, amazing romance, and also empowering about overcoming an abusive parent … MUST WATCH!!!

12-26-23 Klaus (2019) (rewatch) it’s so great to see a new 2D animated movie come out, and such a great story too. Cute origin story of Christmas and POSTAL WORKER APPRECIATION!!!!!

In conclusion, I love movies !!! But my favorite movies are those that are confident in their identities and don’t hold back. Like share your message to the fullest !!!!

I watched a lot of stop-motion movies this year. I wanna watch more studio ghibli movies next year

And maybe I should purposefully try watching bad movies… it might make me appreciate good ones more and easier see what they do right. But also. I really dont wanna watch ralph breaks the internet.
