I cannot stand to be on twitter today bc they’re rehashing the “punk is about rebelling against what’s popular!!1!11!” debate like dawg,,, not only are you Wrong, the line is “redneck agenda” and maga is the same shit 💀 and oh, im sorry, the song AMERICAN IDIOT wasn’t political before this??? Media literacy is dead.
“But it was new year’s eve, we wanted to escape all that political nonsense!!”
You Cannot have green day on a broadcast where artists play an incredibly short set of their most well known songs in the small time they’re allotted and NOT expect them to whip out one of their MOST POPULAR SINGLES. It is also FUCKING GREEN DAY, a band who has Always been political from wayyy before american idiot’s release (she) to now (the american dream is killing me).

speaking of not having a room in my life ever... don't think it's ever talked abt how much of a deeply traumatic n dehumanising experience that is & i mean that wholeheartedly
everyone our age i know to this day who we grew up with has one, grown up with one since early childhood, had choice in what to surround themselves with in their own space and could have privacy when needed
i sleep in a single bed in a corner, that's all i have. we've always shared a room with 1-3 ppl and it was never a bearable experience growing up, but once you reach your early teens i feel like it just starts being traumatising regardless of environment. i know most of the time it's not anyone's intent to deprive children of personal space, it is most often the result of poverty & inability to give them that but i'm fully convinced you should not be having a child if you can't give them that
maybe my own experience is saturated by other household trauma that this lack of personal space opened us up to but as a whole, i think it's abuse to deny a growing human being their fully own space, as small as it could possibly be, any space at all ... i can't really explain why it's such an important part of growing up but not only do i still feel alienated based on that alone, i also don't feel like i have any right to privacy at all, no place i can just be and do what i want without being watched, judged, commented on or demanded a change (i can't turn the light on/off or close/open the door or windows without input! i can't keep the door closed at all actually bc she will come and open it and ask why i need it closed!)
anyway i just feel like it contributed to our trauma insurmountably and affected our mental health to this day. it feels like yet another puzzle piece in 'normal human development' missing that i will never be able to fill in?
i wonder if there r any studies done on this or any professional opinion on depriving children of personal space & privacy. reading other people's experiences online unanimously seems to imply it immensely fucked up our senses of self n complicated being in touch with our needs
so conclusion i guess. if ya plan on ever having N amount of children PLEASE think realistically if yr able 2 provide em an environment that allows em 2 have all of their needs fulfilled... n that absolutely includes the right to privacy

Ok so at this point (i hope) we all have accepted that the 'gods don't have dna' thing doesn't make sense so let me present an alternative:
The gods' dna is constantly changing, adapting to their current forms. Tall, white, blonde aphrodite has a dna which she passes to that one kid, while a shorter, poc aphrodite would have a different dna that is passed to another person. Of course, there is a part of it that doesn't change, which gives siblings that one bit of parentage, but it isn't enough for further connections, when two demigods would be cousins, or uncle and nephew, to affect them at all.
The kids are all told they look so much like their parent, yet when they come to camp many find that no one looks quite like them. Their parent must be a minor god, someone who doesn't really mingle a lot with mortals, right? Imagine the kid's surprise when they are claimed by a god like aphrodite and find themselves in a cabin full of people who look so different, yet they are all siblings.
'Gods don't have DNA,' the smartass counselor of the Athena cabin explains, but hey, they have studied basic biology, and even though they were never too great at it, they know enough to be sure that that's not how it works. (When they find out she ran away from home at 7 and has lived at camp ever since, her apparent stupidity makes more sense.) The Aphrodite kid, though, knows that, either they got some kind of outside 'input', or they would be a literal clone of their mortal parent. Also, they don't see how some gods' children would be so similar, with the athena kids being all blonde with grey eyes, similarly to the children of apollo. The explanations they are offered don't even start to make sense to them, and they aren't sure how no one has seen anything wrong with it. Surely the Athena kids, or anyone at camp would be smarter than them, right? They weren't even that good at anything. (They are new and haven't yet accepted magic as a plausible answer, chiron told them when confronted about it)(he did kind of agree with them when they explained everything, he hadn't had too much contact with the outside world in the past centuries, so he still accepted the old answers with the tiniest bits of science included.)
The Aphrodite kid manages to get a son of Athena to help them understand, the answer had never sat right with him but he had always explained it with magic. They ask around, but everyone at camp seems to have that stupid idea engraved in their heads, and there is only so much you can do at camp. When Lester-- Apollo, comes to camp, they see the perfect opportunity. Both of them turn up one afternoon at cabin 7 and demand an explanation from the former god.
Apollo, ex-god of medicine, among other things, is able to explain everything with detail to the pair of curious demigods. (Having such a big ego back then, he's not sure exactly why he did it. He liked them, he supposes.) He frowns when they tell him of the explanation that everyone at camp believes true, he had thought mortals were stupid, but demigods were supposed to be a little bit less dumb. How were they supposed to keep him alive if they believed that gods didn't have DNA? Apollo requests for these two not-so-stupid demigods to aid him in his journey, but they politely refuse, both of them supposedly planning to visit their mortal parent. (The son of Athena conveniently forgets to mention that his father is dead and that he'll just go one day to the cemetery.)
When Annabeth Chase comes back to camp, she's greeted by an over-enthusiastic brother and a smug-looking kid of Aphrodite who explains everything they know about the gods' DNA. The daughter of Athena is impressed, how had she never questioned that before? But she can see now that it could easily happen again, even with something so trivial as this. Maybe college isn't the best option just yet, she confides to Percy one day when they are alone. She needs to know her basics, as she had always looked for harder, more advanced things back when she first came to camp. Maybe that's why she likes architecture, she realizes, because it's all math, most of which was easy enough for her to have learnt about before running away or complex enough for post-running her to find interesting. Architecture is something she can understand, but there are many other things that she can't, and it's not because she's not smart enough, it's because she doesn't know the basics.
So for the first time in her life, Annabeth swallows her pride and studies something easy, something she should have started so long ago. And just a year later, she and Percy go to college in New Rome, safe from monster attacks. (They drop out after a while because they are too safe from the monster attacks they are so used to. Also, they feel like they would be more useful helping to fend off monsters and making sure no one goes through what they did again.)
The Aphrodite kid is accepted by the Athena cabin as an honorary sibling. They and their now best friend and brother the son of Athena grow closer with the years, and by some miracle they both live to adulthood, past the point where their smell diminishes and they will be safe outside the barrier. (It totally has nothing to do with how the sun glows a little bit brighter around them, filling them with energy which is enough to make that one feint to kill the last cyclops, and helping any wound heal a little bit faster than most would, even for a demigod.)

i just think its very super interesting how our microbiota can be another added piece to effectiveness and or ineffectiveness of cancer treatments. Like what do you mean this bacteria usually found in the oral microbiota can be found in high abundance in CRC and maybe contributes to chemoresistance or favorable tumor environments like whaatttt.

Sorry to be negative but Dina just like.. ignoring that Garret released (and basically killed) every single one of her birds ruined the show for me. Yeah she gets mad at him and burns his shoes but she forgives him in the end and acts like it wasn’t a big deal. If someone did that to me they’d be DEAD to me. Especially considering how he didn’t even really seem to feel that bad about it.
Like he clearly didn’t understand how much the birds meant to Dina and what a big deal what he just did was. If someone did that to my cat and showed such little remorse I’d cut them out of my life so fucking fast. PLUS he just let her think SHE was the one that let them out AND THEN HE USED HER VULNERABLE STATE TO HAVE SEX WITH HER. WHAT THE HELL. (Those last two things are real bad but I’m gonna focus on the ‘not valuing pets’ aspect bc I want to)
Dude she would have spent thousands of dollars on the birds alone, not counting vet bills, cages, food, toys, and anything else they needed. Ignoring the incredible amount of emotional attachment she obviously felt for these birds, that’s so. much. money.
I have a huge appreciate for (proper) pet owners so seeing all of her birds get released was HEART SHATTERING and then she didn’t get any of them back (and pet birds do not last long released) and it was played off as a joke... birds live a long ass time and she was very clearly extremely attached to them. It’s kinda fucked up that the show made fun of her for that.
Sorry you guys don’t value pets other than dogs but I’m not an asshole.
And I don’t like when shows act like it’s weird for someone to value a pet as much as a child (especially a longer living pet like birds), considering in most if not all cases, the person in question doesn’t have an actual child.
