Stepping out of the Fey was a mix bag. The elders warned her that she should never know what to expect. But of all the things she could’ve expected to see out of her fantastical realm, this was the last thing to expect…

It was a bit of a culture shock for the Satyr to say the least. So many things she had never dreamed of seeing, hearing, or even smelling. Yet here they were all right in front of her. Part of her wanted to pass out with all this new stuff, and unfortunately, that’s exactly what she did.

‘I wonder if the people here think I am an anomaly?’ She pondered just before loosing consciousness.

She wasn’t sure how long she was out. The only she did know, was that she was no longer alone by the time she woke up.

“H-huh? Where am I?” She murmured, as she came to consciousness. Her eyes fluttering and her ears flickering as she tried to properly adjust to all the new sights and sounds that flooded her senses.

What Makes Bridgetown Different?

A Talky Storybook Setting. More than a simple roadway, many folks live their entire lives wandering the Bridge. Goat-legged Gruffolk, tiny Coblin huddles, magical stone masons, and haunted rock golems give the Bridge a mythical storybook vibe. Or maybe that’s just the Troll stench.

Pastoral Crumbling Cities. Tight spaces, towering buildings, hazardous walkways, and lively characters fill the Bridge near to bursting. Land–and everything that goes in or on it–is at a premium on the Bridge. Rooftop gardens eke out food, protected groves offer precious timber, and if you want the luxury of metal you have to rip up the bones of the Bridge itself to get some. The law of the land is barter and trade, and folk sell things dearly.

Infinite, Liminal, and Narrow. The Bridge is a narrow band of solid ground straddling the gap between the infinite Sky above and the murky depths of the Under. It is wide enough for about 50 average-sized humans to stand shoulder-to-shoulder across it (the width of a modern 4-lane highway). You could walk it for a hundred years, and the only end you’d find is your own.

Whispers In The Stones: The Bridge is alive, after a fashion, and those with an ear for its voice can learn its secrets. Some may even become Stonewrights- beloved and hated keepers of old lore who can tease the magic out of disintegrating stone.

A Bridge To Elsewhere? Every now and then, something especially peculiar happens. The Under spits up something real, or things drop out of the empty Sky. Rarer still, sometimes those things are people. These strange out-of-towners claim they’re from other places; other worlds beyond the Bridge. Maybe you can find a way to travel between these various spheres?

a loud crash, then came distressed bleating, as the little goat found himself in a confusing predicament .  he’d followed the appetizing aroma of a fresh baked pie to a windowsill .  in an attempt to reach it, he’d sprung up on his back hooves and bit the tea towel that had been placed underneath it.  instead of a pie tumbling over, he’d been met with a large box that covered him whole !   unable to see which way to go, the little goat wandered around and bleated in distress  .

Haha, this one is tricky as I would normally lean right into top 5 goat photos! However, I didn't spend very much time with my little babies this year since I've been in such a transitional state and I'm not sure if I have any goat photos.

I have been working on a travel montage video, though, so I'll give you top 5 from that collection, since they're readily accessible. In no particular order...

This was my first time getting to Algonquin Park to camp this year. We set up our tents and the skies opened up and it just started pouring. One of my dearest friends looked at me and asked, "Do you want to go for a walk?" So, we did - getting absolutely drenched in the rain and jumping at each loud clap of thunder. I waded into the water at this spot and she happened to start snapping photos of me, which I'm pretty grateful for as there aren't a lot of unprompted photos of myself. I felt very, very at peace in this moment. And you can see my super cute crocs in the bottom left of the photo!

This was the day Kaitlyn and I arrived in Vancouver. I was completely exhausted from the flight and ended up having awful, awful jet lag for most of the trip (thanks to only just having recovered from COVID, I'm sure). But this moment was exactly what I'd gone out there seeking: trees bigger than I'd ever seen before, the ocean mere feet away, and a few days in the same place as one of my oldest online-met friends. It was spectacular and that's genuine awe on my face. Again, photo unprompted by me, so I'm very grateful it exists.

I think this might've been the first hike of the season. I met up with a dear friend for a leisurely wander and a post-hike picnic. She's a bit like me, in that sometimes she says, "Hey, let's climb down this hole!" and I agree with those sentiments. This is about halfway through a split in the cliff that we decided to explore.

This isn't my favourite photo of me with one of the campfires I built this summer, but the one I actually love most has other people's faces in the background and I don't share stuff like that without permission. So! Fuckboi fire builder it is. For many years, I've been the weakest link while out on camping trips, simply because I don't have the experience that all my friends do. This year, though, I worked really hard at learning how to successfully build a fire with only the bare necessities and I got good enough that I was entrusted with it a few times. Next year, my goal is to be able to build one with only flint as a starter. Fingers crossed!

This was another first I wanted this year and literally cried (while stoned) about it when I thought I wasn't going to be able to make it happen. But I did! Kayaking at sunset with one of my dearest friends was everything I'd hoped for and more. And yes, it's definitely easier than canoeing.

Honourable mention to this photo, which is more about career than travel. I felt so, so validated and supported on this shoot (my first one!) and I know that's entirely thanks to the (female) 2nd Camera who fought for me. I don't know what she recognized, but she convinced the 1st Camera that I needed to be given a chance to learn and it meant I was able to try/help with so many interesting things. She placed this camera on my shoulder during the lunch break and took this photo for me to remember the moment (no one else but the DOP, the 1st and 2nd Cameras, and myself touched this camera the entire day). I think I'll remember her kindness the rest of my life, and I can't wait to pay it forward through all of my time working in the film and television industry.

the polite young thing that sat quietly against her sister's back racked with the idea that she would one day call forth her sister's attention. she seemed relucent enough to ask for why her youngest lamb found herself bawing with their own little horns dipping down. she collected her sister's jewelry and slid it on her arms, and hair. memorized by the way it shined in the light. her hands raising to place against mabil's face in playful mannerisms.

" you look devious, sister! " she complimented well enough. studying what little mischief crept on her sister mabil's young face.

the youthful mabil would blush and press her hands into a small handled mirror. pressing it close to her face, " it's quite lovely, Amelinanus !! " Mabilloy mused. her noise raising in a goaty fashion. before she turned to the open bedroom door, " it appears we've been found !! we must hurry before father catches us in mother's room again ! " giggling gracefully enough.
