Obsessing over your AU and Luz and Amity’s lumity dynamics. How tf are these two ever going to figure out they love each other? Is it going to be gradual (aka Amity realizing she has nothing to fear and Luz isn’t a cold murdering mastermind manipulator) or something more sudden where they’re in a situation where they HAVE to face their feelings, somehow? Very curious

god it deserves a full fic. i think i answered a similar question to this a few weeks ago but cannot for the Life of me remember what i said. (bad memory disease.) if this contradicts earlier kitkat just know that i contain multitudes but i Think it would be a combination of amity getting to know luz better and realizing that she actually really really REALLY wants to cede her power. and maybe even more than that, it's amity realizing that a lot of her most neurotic hangups about luz are bc of assumptions she's made about luz and hunter's relationship -- so the realization that hunter is nowhere Near as oppressed or mistreated as amity secretly worries he might be.

like i'm a sucker for involving a third party in any awkward romance but it's especially Vital here imo, because amity doesn't trust luz's intentions and also doesn't trust her own perceptions. and yet for some godforsaken reason, the person she DOES trust is hunter. like don't get me wrong, she thinks he's plotting her downfall at all times and like 80% of the time he IS, but he's also straightforward with her in a way that basically nobody else in the castle is.

Prompt: Amity runs to the owl house after stressful events and ends up breaking down in the woods. Luckily Luz is there.

As a thrown hardcover book smacked Amity’s face, she knew she had to leave. Even though her mother was in the middle of a scolding, she knew it was unsafe. As she ran out the door, tears were on the verge of streaming down.

What caused all this to happen? Her mother was giving her a lecture about her hair again, and how it needed to be green. It somehow turned into a scolding about hanging out with Luz. Amity tried not to pay attention to it, but Odalia could tell and made sure her daughter was focusing on her by throwing a hardcover book in the middle of her forehead to get her point across. She was mad that her daughter was being “influenced” by a human criminal and needed to change that.

As Amity ran out the doors of the Blight manor, she could hear Odalia yelling at her and how she was in so much trouble for running away. The only thing on her mind as she was sprinting, was getting away to somewhere safe. Safe from Odalia, safe from judgment, safe from control freaks, and safe from being hurt.

However, soon, her legs started to grow tired from running and her heart felt like it was about to explode. That's when she realized what she had just done. The consequences of her actions had just caught up to her.

She stopped in the middle of the woods, and stood there. What was she going to do now? She couldn’t go back! Her mother would kill her! But she couldn’t sleep in the woods, an animal could kill her. And the ground she's standing on is dirty and uncomfortable. More of these anxious, “what am i going to do” thoughts, plagued her mind. Her legs gave out and she huddled underneath a tree with her back pressed up against its bark. She pulled at her hair to try and distract herself from them but it just got worse. She started worrying about things that she didn’t worry about before and everything just seemed super intense in the moment. Not to mention the yucky and messy woods she was in was seriously messing with her sensory issues.

It became harder and harder to breathe. She couldn’t even tell if she was breathing or hiccupping at this point. It all sounded so similar. Nothing she did could help. She tried focusing on Azura, but her mind still drifted and obsessed on how bad the situation was and what she was going to do. Trying to imagine how to solve this problem made everything worse. 

The noises she heard from the forest felt painful and too loud or overwhelming. She pressed her hands to her ears and shut her eyes but she could still hear the noises. She could still feel the dirt and scratchy tree bark against her body. 

Her breaths were loud and rapid. Tears streamed down her face and she choked on sobs.

A rustle from the bushes grabbed her attention. She snapped open her eyes and saw a familiar brown-ish grey grudgby jacket. Her eyes widened as she realized who this person was.

“Oh my gosh, Amity!” Luz exclaimed and tried to run towards the girl. Amity curled in on herself as Luz approached her. Luckily, Luz caught this behavior and immediately slowed down and entered with a calm manner.

“Hey, Hey, It's okay, It’s just me, Your girlfriend, Luz,” She said, moving a little bit closer.

Amity whimpered, still hiccup breathing. She made a strange noise next. It sounded more like a pained moan than a whimper (don’t be weird). Was she in pain physically? Or just really overwhelmed and that's the only thing she can get out? Maybe she was trying to speak?

“Sweet potato, I need you to breathe,” Luz insisted, trying to get Amity to open her eyes up a little to at least watch her demonstrate.

Amity could feel another figure enter the area but didn’t dare open her eyes. The other figure would probably make fun of her and call her weak. She couldn’t bear it.

“Hooty, go get Eda for me, please, tell her it's an emergency,” Luz spoke to the figure. It was hooty. That must mean Amity was in close perimeter to the owl house. 

“C’mon, Ames, deep breaths, I know you can do it,” She instructed. It was still really hard for her and Amity was barely improving.

After a few more tries and encouragement, Amity's breathing finally seemed to be a bit normalized and she felt a little calmer. Well, enough to not wheeze for air. Her breaths were still heavy but not consciousness threatening. 

“There you go, good job,” Luz held her hand tightly. It was grounding for the both of them.

Rustling came from the bushes and Eda popped out. She took a look at her kid comforting the baby blight and had some ideas of what was going on.

“Hey, bossy boots, you okay?” Eda kneeled down to her, recognizing the situation as a possible anxiety attack, Meltdown, or just crying session.

“N-not r-rea-” Amity stuttered but couldn't get the last letters out.

“It's alright, kid, you don't got to use your words.” She assured her. Amity nodded okay and melted into Luz's embrace. 

“Let's get her to the owl house. Using context clues, I don't think she should go back to that manor right now,” Eda told Luz. The human girl nodded and helped Amity up onto her feet. Unfortunately, she had a bit of the case of the good ol’ jelly legs. She wobbled on her shaky legs before Luz realized what was happening and quickly scooped her up, just like she did in Grudgby.

Amity blushed, silently loving her knight and shining armor. She was distracted by Luz's strength and how close they were together that she hadn't even realized they were soon at the owl house. 

She was placed on the couch to let Luz's arms rest while Eda grabbed a cup of warm tea for them. 

“Can you walk?” Luz asked, stretching her arms out.

“I think,” Amity croaked, her throat hoarse from crying and hyperventilating. She stood up and her legs wobbled a bit but she managed to stay a float. 

She was led to Luz's room where Luz gave her pajamas to change into. As she changed she liked how it smelled like her girlfriend. It was a sweet woodsy smell and she found it comforting. Luz made her feel safe and having the scent of her was like she was giving her a hug without the weight. 

Amity’s words eventually came back to her and she was able to talk without much of a problem.

When they sat down in Luz’s room, Amity told her about what happened to send her into the panic attack. Instead of judging her, or calling her sensitive, Luz hugged her and swayed her, making Amity feel validated and loved. 

“Your mom shouldn’t be controlling your hair, its unfair! She shouldn’t have thrown that book either. Can I take a look at your head, just to make sure nothing happened?” Luz asked once she pulled away from the hug.

“I don’t know…” Amity hesitated. She hadn’t showered since yesterday and she was just running through the forest. Her hair was probably sweaty and gross. She did NOT want Luz to go near her hair if it was gross.

“Come on, please? I want to make sure there's no damage,” Pleaded Luz. she was making puppy eyes and Amity just couldn’t say no.

Luz checked over Amity’s head and forehead, leaving Amity’s chin in her hands.

“Does it hurt when I press down?” She asked, pressing lightly on her forehead with two fingers.

“A little” Amity winced. Luz could tell it was a bit more than a little because she could easily see it starting to bruise.

After another small test, suddenly, Luz leaned over and gave the bruise a small kiss.

“Now it won’t hurt anymore,” She smiled as Amity giggled and blushed from the contact.

“Let's head to bed. If you want a stuffy, I got a whole pile in that corner,” Luz pointed to the back corner of the room where about 20 plushies lay. A lot of them looked like they were from the same brand and others were different. Luz had a bit of a hobby of collecting stuffed animals and often slept with some.

“I’ll be okay, I’ve got you,” Amity breathed before realizing what she had just said and light up red. Luz giggled at the sight of her tomato girlfriend.

“You’re so cute when flustered, I love it,” She chortled. Amity smiled. That might’ve been the best compliment she’s had in her life.

“We should really head to bed though, it's late.” interjected Luz. 

After making sure Amity was comfortable with sleeping in the same bed, the two laid down and soon fell fast asleep.

I COULD TALK ABOUT HOW THE SHOW LIKE COMPLETELY REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE GUS EVER!!!.

i can talk about how RECENTLY, in a panel, they were asked “how would they react if Luz died?” and they gave amity, willow, HUNTER more detailed answers than GUS. they said, “gus and everyone else would be sad” or some shit.

i can talk about how they literally never talk about him, OR his v/a! and when they do its bs (above). i hope its clear that they got BOSCHA and KIKIMORAS V/As, aka two characters nobody actually gives a flying shit about (the actors are rlly nice though no shit on them), on an interview, but not gus?? really??

i can talk about how, even with the episodes being FOCUSED ON HIM, he gets overshadowed by other characters. whether purposefully or not (who am i kidding, its always on purpose lmao). like in labyrinth runners, he gets overshadowed by hunter and amity, and in through the looking glass graveyard, they put a FUCKING lumity kiss.

i can talk about how in WAD, when luz was in her dream, all of the characters had outfits that correlated to how luz “came into their life and changed it” or whatever, but gus is wearing is GROM SUIT, why? because the show IGNORES HIM THE ENTIRE FUCKING TIME, and he never gets a ‘big moment’ with luz unlike everyone else!

i can talk about how it takes until the LAST MINUTES of THE LAST EPISODE for him to get a new haircut, and the fact they couldnt even animate his hair right in the beginning anyways. not like they cared to!

i can talk about how it feels like he was literally just thrown in there for black representation, and they dont do shit anyway!!!! hes the only ‘main’ black character (excusing darius and ig willow who is blasian but. on average, nobody would really know that abt her anyway)

i can talk about how all the canon ships are poc x white, yet gustholomule, poc x poc, literally gets ignored too. like how did fucking aladarius and huntlow get a chance?? i know gm is really just an opinion (and probably always will be) but they had so much chemistry compared to the other two. cmon, the fuck? everyone else gets a partner but not him? and if hes every confirmed to be aroace, itll just be another stab in the gut. hc that hunter and willow end up sharing a lot of clothing and because hunter has issues with the texture of certain fabrics, he sews that little W patch to remind himself that this or that belongs to willow. theres ceirtaintly an easier way to remember other than sewing an entire patch, but he enjoys designing patches that match the clothing. anyways look at what uve done to me im thinking up domestic huntlow hcs

I could imagine that during the time spent in Camila's house, mixing up clothes was a frequent occurance. Usually between Luz, Amity and Gus. They're all roughly the same size so they'd pull out a shirt, take one look at it and be like "yeah this is probably mine." Considering they're GFs, Luz and Amity wouldn't mind. But Gus would definitely complain if he saw either of them in one of his dino shirts tho lmao.

Willow and Hunter are also susceptible to this but less so. Hunter accidentally wore one of Willow's T-shirts once and when she was like "Borrowing my shirt, huh? ;)", he was absolutely mortified.

"O-oh! Is this yours? I didn't-- I-I'm so sorry. I mean, looking at it now... obviously it's yours. It's got mushrooms on it. Like, duh, am I right? I'll-I'll take it off immediately lemme just--"

"Now I know you're not about to take the shirt off right now in front of her, right?" Gus quickly adds before he embarrasses himself any further.

Hunter freezes, hands bunched in the hem, seconds before yanking the shirt over his head.

"ObViOusly not!" His voice cracks, face scalding. "That'd be weird. So weird! No I-...I'll wash it for you! I know you don't want my weird smell on it..."

Willow tilts head to the side, cocking an eyebrow "I don't?" She asks innocently.

All Hunter can manage is a confused but horribly flustered squeak. It's amazing the heat didn't melt the skin of his face off.

Gus has to give Willow a stern talking to later that day. ("You WILL kill him if you don't tone it down. Stop the violence, Park!!!")

Anyway, after that happens, Hunter does not throw on just anything. He carefully scrutinises every article of clothing he dons and makes absolute certain that it belongs to him. So yeah I could imagine him sewing in little name tags just to keep Willow's clothes out of his pile.

However, this is the point where Willow starts "accidentally" wearing his clothes in return. She bounces into the kitchen for breakfast in one of his rocko button downs and it makes his galdorstone fucking flatline. Sees his life flash before his eyes as he chokes on his cereal. He cannt TAKE this shit anymore man.

You know his sweater? The soft yellow one? Willow once asked to borrow it. She, Lumity and Vee were heading out for a girls day and she had this cute skirt that she wanted to wear and that sweater would match it perfectly and... 🥺

Anyway when Hunter gets it back, there's a strong scent of perfume on it.

"You'll probably wanna wash that." Willow winks, fully aware that he hasn't a notion of washing it. She leaves Hunter a pile of mush, clutching the sweater to his chest for dear life.

He wears it the next day. There's still traces of Willow's scent on it. He tries to be casual about it but fails miserably. She grins like an idiot all day long.

But yes YES absolutely. In a few years time they are constant clothes sharers. Deliberate this time. Very funny to think about Willow intentionally avoiding textures that Hunter doesn't like when clothes shopping, even when they're for her. Cuz like...they'll end up on him at some point probably. If she owns fabrics that bother Hunter, it's clothes that aren't really his style anyway. But shirts, pants, jackets, hoodies. These are all fair game.

Hunter STILL distinguishes every article of clothing with the personalised little patches but you want to know the biggest reason I think he does this?

He wants people to know. He likes flaunting who he's dating honestly.

That's a weird reason not to have more LGBTQA+ representation. What's next, there shouldn't be a FtM trans character, because it would outshine May - a MtF trans character?

There shouldn't be a nonbinary human character, because it would outshine CC and Little/Somewhat - nonbinary animal characters?

There shouldn't be gay male characters, because it would outshine Ilia and Coco - canon lesbian characters? Besides theres already good enough gay characters, like Scarlet (remember him? He existed in V3 for 10 seconds) and Pilot Boi (he's dead and there's no mention of him being gay in the story).

Outside of Fairgame, I can't say there is any other popular MLM ship in the RWBY fandom and even if Fairgame is popular, Bumbleblee is still the more popular ship. WLW ships that aren't Bumblebee or Whiterose already don't get much spotlight and now there shouldn't be any canon MLM ship, because Bumbleblee might not be Miss Popular anymore?

LGBTQA+ representation shouldn't be a competition. We're a community, meant to support one another and that includes caring about other identities getting representation outside of our own.

If RWBY fans want to see WLW representation, why don't they just watch other shows?🙄 No need to force in WLW romance in this story, because what if the WLW ship takes away the spotlight from the F/M ships?🥺

I won't deny there isn't a problem of how MLM relationships gets treated vs how WLW relationships get treated by media and fandoms, but it shouldn't mean MLM have to stop existing. It doesn't mean wanting to see MLM couples on screen is bad and that you don't care about WLW couples. MLM romance still has to deal with homophobia. Just like WLW romance does.

But God forbit a person wants there to be a slight bit of MLM representation in a 10 years old show where most romance is F/M and the on-screen gay romance is mainly WLW (Ilia's crush on Blake, Saphron and Terra, Bumblebee)

Luz and Amity sat on a hill, a perfect view over the city of Bonesborough. Luz smiled, "Im glad we're finally finished building. It was so exhausting!" She said. Amity chuckled, "You didn't have to help us, you know.

Luz nodded, "I had to. This place is pretty much my second home." She said.

Amity sighed, "It's weird how long it's been. It's like we were fourteen just yesterday." Amity said, looks up to the sky.

Luz chuckled, "It really has been a while, huh? I remember all the silly shenanigans we would get into." She said.

Amity let out a giggle, "Remember when Hooty almost swallowed that one delivery humans hand?" She said.

Luz shuddered, "How could I forget? We had to wrestle him just to free that poor girl." Luz said.

Amity smirked and glanced at Luz, "I remember how I used to absolutely wreck you in tickle fights!"

A light blush appeared on Luz's face, "Hey! I had my moments. Besides, I've grown out of that stuff." She said.

Amity raised an eyebrow, "Reallyy?" She said in a mischievous tone. Luz looked at her confused before letting out a giggle as she felt something brush her sides.

"Not ticklish anymore, huh?" Amity teased. Luz frowned, "I was so confident!" She whined.

"Well, unlike youuu! I actually grew out of it. My ears are as normal as yours now!" She boasted.

Luz smirked, "Oh yeah?" She said before lunging at the girl, holding her down. "Let's see then." Luz said, smiling as Amitys eyes widened.

"W-We dont have to do that!" Amity stammered. Ignoring her protest, Luz started gently brushing her fingers against the witch's ears.

Amity bit her lip, holding back her giggles. Luz raised a brow, "Come on, Mittens! Let me hear your cute little laugh!" Luz teased.

Amitys face went red. "S-shuhut- uhuhup!" She said, giggles shaking her voice. Luz let out a dramatic gasp. "My heart! It's broken! You deserve to be punished for how rude that was!" She joked.

Moving her hands, she scribbled them down Amity's sides. This got a reaction. Amity burst into a fit of giggles. "Luhuhuz nohoho!" She said.

Luz grinned, "Not ticklish, mi amor? Luz teased. Amity didn't respond, her face just getting redder. Luz smiled, "You're laughs are adorable, but I want to hear one more thing..: Luz said.

She shot her hands under Amitys arms. The girl squealed and burst into laughter. "LUHUHUZ! *snort* NOHOHO!" Amity said.

"Theres the snorts! As cute as I remember!" Luz teased.

"SHUHUT *snort* UHUHUP!" Amity's laughter was contagious, and Luz was laughing with her.

"I have one final thing!" She said. Lifting up Amity's shirt a bit, Amity's eyes widened. "Luhuhuz, no!" She begged.

Luz winked at her before blowing a raspberry onto her belly. This sent Amity into hysterics. Luz kept blowing raspberry after raspberry.

"CUHUHUHT IT OHOHOUT!" Amity yelled. After a while, Luz finally stopped, releasing the girl. Amity gasped, still giggling.

"Yohour a jerk.." she muttered. Luz helped her sit up. "Im your jerk!" Luz said, making the witch's face go red again.

"Yeah, you're right." She said, looking up and kissing Luz's cheek before leaning on her, watching the view over the aisles.

"Looking back, Im glad I chased Owlbert through the door." Luz said.

Amity smiled, "Me too."

yknow i gotta say its very weird the way fans will explode whenever HINTS toward a certain ship becoming canon, but then when said ship becomes canon all the noise suddenly dies? especially if a show actually gives the ship more content than just getting together. i know lumity and huntlow have white favortism tied into the hype but its weird the way both of them had rabid fans before they got together, then after lumity got together and progressed on a normal path it was all crickets from the fandom it seems. but huntlow has even less effort put into it from the show and theres MOUNTAINS of fan content, yet i can only assume if hunter and willow progressed as a regular relationship like lumity then everyone would get bored of that too. it feels like fans just want excuses to write their own romances without having to create ocs to do it

Fandom in general is still wrapped up in this idea of pining as a romance story. They view characters getting together as the end of the story.

But in the case of The Owl House, the fandom was obsessed with dynamics first and foremost. Dynamics that flat out didn't exist in the show. They started shipping Lumity when this was the only time they interacted

And if you remember Season 1 "Beta Lumity" artwork, it was clear that they wanted another Catradora. They wanted another abuse fetish ship. Hell they routinely compared the two to Catradora until Amity grew the hell up and stopped being a moody bitch. Then they moved on because it wasn't "enemies to lovers" so in their eyes it was "boring."

Huntlow is the same thing. Because it's not canon they can foist whatever dynamic they want onto it. And there are exactly FOUR kinds of Huntlow fans.

Granted I don't see Huntlow dying off in popularity like Lumity did. For one, most of them are only there for Hunter, and as long as Hunter is in the frame they'll whoop and holler like Bronies catching a glimpse of Luna. Most of them do not care one single iota about Willow. They would have shipped him with the other two if they hadn't gotten violently pushed back.

Unfortunately this is just what modern shipping is. Dynamics and Blorbos first and foremost.

Huntlow is sooooo funny bc hunter never stops blushing at willow to the point their blush counter comes second only to lumity, theres constant floral symbolism and parallels with other pairings that point towards a romantic connection and basically everyone on the crew ships them. They also haven’t had a one on one conversation since the episode they first met.

Its like. To luz, most of her friends/family have someone else in their lives that would lessen the impact if she were to, say, dramatically sacrifice herself for her friends. Perhaps in the events of the finale? This isnt true. She isnt replaceable. But luz is as close to suicidal as they can make her if they want to keep the shows rating and i can see her thinking that.

Her mom has vee now, another daughter in case her first daughter dies. Gus and willow, her best friends, are close with hunter. Maybe closer than they are with luz now, since shes been avoiding them. By the time they get back, eda will probably have gotten together with raine. King may have even befriended the collector. (though based on danas art hes probably just in a perpetual state of "mom pick me up im scared") and no matter what, eda and king will have each other like they did before luz. we dont know what luz was planning to do with her palisman when she decided to permanently stay in the human realm, but hunter is now conveniently without a palisman, so she could just let him use hers.

Hunter definitely has a family in camila but we dont really know if his relationship with vee is anything like his relationship with luz. If luz were to sacrifice herself, hed lose a sister. Or at least a trauma bestie. Or whatever found family niche he considers luz to be in. And amity? There is nothing luz could do to convince herself that amity would be fine being left behind. But luz already toyed with ending that relationship when she decided to stay in the human realm. It hurts, but i can see luz justifying to herself that whatever dramatic sacrifice shes planning is for the good of everyone and its worth breaking amitys heart.

And ofc by the power of good storytelling, good rep, and disneys s&p department theres no way luz and her friends aren't going to get a happy ending. She'll try to dramatically sacrifice herself as the climax of her character arc but her loved ones will save her. And then theyll finally get it through her head that she has value as a person, actually. And then lumity will kiss and the animation will get all smooth and the framerate will get high enough for them to do sick spells and defeat belos. And camila will adopt the collector and make him the powerful last of their kind noceda-clawthorne sibling #4. And the show will end with luz going to therapy or smth.
