OC Valentine's Challenge 2024 -> Day 6: Almost Love

Lisa and Micah had been traveling through the labyrinth for three months now with no luck in escaping. They encounter Eros who, like Janus, is a minor god stuck within this underground's confines and bored enough to mess with whoever he comes across. Unfortunately, Lisa and her friend just so happen to stumble across him. They manage to escape, but not without first being subject to the love god's arrow-flung spells.

The spells wear off the further they run through the tunnels, until finally, they take a break to sit down and lean against the walls, catching their breath...

"How are you feeling?" Micah finally asks, his lungs no longer heaving for air.

"Not like I want to kiss you anymore. Thank, god," Lisa adds and closes her eyes. She hated the whole thing: not only was being pierced by Eros' arrow excruciating – like a rod of fire burning a hole in the middle of her chest –, but it had overridden everything she came to identify with, told her it was invalid, and forced her to feel things she couldn't before. It felt... odd. Unnatural. She shivered at the violation.

"That's good. Means the spell wore off," Micah returned. "I feel more myself, too."

Thinking she heard something in his tone and curious to know more, Lisa asked, "You're not disappointed, are you?"

He took the question with a second of silence. "Nah," he finally said. "No. I mean, we work well together, sure. But romance?" He made himself chuckle.

Lisa shook her head with a wrinkled nose and joins in with the chuckle. "No, thanks," she agrees. In the past, she had had the thought that she needed to feel something towards other people in terms of romantically or 'attraction', but when it became clear that she'd never feel what other people felt, she oddly found herself at peace. She didn't feel it nor did she want what came out of it. "So, where to now?"

"I say, rest, and then we'll see where the tunnel leads in the morning," suggested Micah.

"'Morning'," Lisa scoffed at a mumble, picking herself to her hands and knees in order to pad out her coat across the floor for a makeshift space to nap. "See you when the rooster crows," she snarked, again at a mumble. Just barely did she see her friend smile before her eyelids drooped and exhaustion took over.
