Observation Log #2 - August 2021

My source post, some context, more context (this account is my writing account. the one in the first linked post is my main) (latter two courtesy of Lem Demonadelem)

Transcription of my observation log so those whose mcyt Ranboos that are going through a similar thing don't feel so alone.

1.8.21

Ok.

Ive had time to calm down and Observe. I’ve had cameras in the public areas of my home for a while. Especially in Ran’s space. Gotta get those cute moments when Im not there.

I reviewed the recordings.

I had some old tech in storage up on one of the shelves. They managed to get up there and pull it down.

How I didn’t notice that Ran had done that, idk…

They were messing around with the tape recorder two days ago.

I’ll need to grab that and see what they did.

Ive got the tape recorder. I grabbed it when they went down for a nap while they were watching Buzzfeed Unsolved.

Looks like they were playing about with some of the old music?

Music

Jesus Christ.

They hated distorted music before but now they are creating it!?

I need to review more of the recordings and see what else they’ve been up to…

Found more tapes from the 30th.

Ok. Nothing else really happened on the 30th.

However.

On the 31st, after we got back from the doctor’s, they started messing about with the old camera.

I’ll see if I can grab it and see what he did.

He was just waking up when I went to grab it.

Got a bit distracted playing with him. He wanted to look at some pictures on the internet. We looked at pictures. He seemed enthralled by those ‘liminal space’ pictures.

Either way. I’ve got the camera now.

Lets see what they did.

Did Ran just rick-roll me??

It was kinda difficult to tell who that was. Except the camera still had the undistorted picture.

Looks like he used the ‘Generation Loss’ effect on the picture?

He’s always been clever. Didn’t expect them to be this clever…

Oh yeah. They drew this weird 4-like symbol in their book in red ink.

2.8.21

Not much happened with Ran while I was around today.

They were messing with the tape recorder. When they doze off, I’ll grab the cassette and listen to what they’ve got on there

Ok. Not as creepy as a few days ago.

3.8.21

He was messing about with an old Sony TV today.

Put on the Walten Files for him.

He enjoyed.

4.8.21

Not much happened today.

He played around with the old Sony TV and a VCR. He recorded some text onto the tape. He scratched on the door trying to go out. I think he wanted to bury it cause he eventually gave up begging to go outside and just shoved the tape under a pile of my dirty laundry.

Yeah… I need to do a load.

I watched the tape when they fell asleep.

It’s just a bunch of names? And collections of letters?

Not much variance today.

I worked. Ran and I baked. I made them some new little outfits.

They seemed pretty pleased with the new outfits.

Again. Not much variance today.

I put on Buzzfeed Unsolved again for today.

Ran was enthralled.

A friend sent me the Trailer for Part 6 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Ran had enjoyed the other parts when they were released, so I showed them the trailer.

He seemed to particularly enjoy Jolyne’s Theme.

9.8.21

Ran has a bucket hat now.

Put on more Buzzfeed Unsolved for Ran.

He enjoyed.

11.8.21

Ran was scribbling stuff on some bits of paper.

He hid it from me.

If I want to find it, I’ll have to completely upturn his upright hutch.

And that’s a bad idea.

I’ll keep an eye on the cameras for where they hide the papers.

12.8.21

He was playing with the VCR again. He was trying to put some video onto a tape.

Something messed up and only like the bottom half of the video was put on the tape for like 5 seconds. The tape had a recording of some old party on it. So when the part Ran put on the tape ended, it cut back to the party recording.

The sudden change from silence to party music spooked him real bad.

Imma be honest, seeing them jump was pretty funny.

13.8.21

It’s Friday.

Put on more Buzzfeed Unsolved for Ran. He was right spooked by it.

14.8.21

Ran was begging to go outside again.

Tomorrow buddy. Tomorrow.

15.8.21

The quarantine period is over.

Let Ran out into his old outdoor mining run later in the afternoon.

He scratched in the dirt with sticks and stuff. Didn’t do much actual digging like before.

When they came in, they seemed a bit disappointed.

16.8.21

A friend brought their sbi Tommy and Philza over for a little playdate.

Ran seemed to perk up. Their Tommy seemed a little off-put, but warmed up pretty quick to Ran’s new state. Their Phil just kinda rolled with Tom and Ran’s chaos.

After they left, Ran did some painting.

I’m still keeping an eye on the cameras for those papers.

17.8.21

Not much variance today.

Maybe I shouldn’t note down when things don’t happen outside the usual.

19.8.21

Another playdate with the friend’s sbi Tommy. We went down to the beach for a few hours.

21.8.21

Watched a lot of game playthroughs today. Ran watched every second.

Job Simulator, Alien Isolation, Cooking Simulator, Gorn, Minecraft, and Oxenfree. Oh! Also tried to watch Sam and Colby’s video on The Conjuring House.

Ran started dozing off during Oxenfree.

Bed time.

22.8.21

Ran saw a video about someone playing an omnichord. He got all excited. I checked if anyone in the area had one.

Found one for pretty cheap on Ebay.

It’ll show up eventually.

23.8.21

Rewatched the Oxenfree playthough with Ran. He managed to stay up this time.

31.8.21

The friend with the sbi Tommy and Philza brought them over. Another friend with a dtqk George and Quackity also came over.

Nice little playdate.

Progress check in: Today was all about arms which is how I prefer my Fridays. Excited to see more balance between upper and lower body development happening. Getting them legs slowly caught up. Got to work and saw a former co-worker I haven’t seen in several months and he stopped mid conversation with another guy when I walked in the room and said, “Have you been lifting a bunch, you’re ripped, holy shit!” Guess my hard work and more attention to diet lately is showing, been keeping consistent now for almost 7 weeks. All sorts of good feelz going into the weekend!😊

“—Eddie?”

(Buck's struggling with his feelings, so he does the only logical thing to do: he drives 20 hours to Texas after a 24-hour shift by himself to seek out help from some new friends.)

said I’d talk about that anime of the decade list I never really made so

Apparently I wrote this on the 3rd of January 2020. Would’ve just gone down MAL seasonal charts and noted down what seemed good. I don’t think I actually decided on a proper format at any point? Iirc I had 3 ideas going on:

literally just list my favourite anime from each year in order of year

favourite anime from each year but in order of favourites instead

any 10 from the entire 2010s and just rank them without needing to have one for every year necessarily

Realistically the first option’s the safest and easiest so I imagine if I did actually get around to doing this ever that’s what I’d have gone with, but uhh, I just never did lol.

Anyway talked about format enough so I suppose let’s just run down what my choices at the time were.

2010

Honestly no complaints about having K-On s2 as my anime of the year for 2010. I think I’ve only completed like 2 or 3 TV anime from 2010 anyway, but even ignoring that K-On s2 is my second favourite anime ever so no reason it wouldn’t win this lol.

2011

I didn’t need to run down seasonal charts to have already decided that my favourite piece of literature - Madoka Magica - was my favourite anime of 2011. If I did the “favourite per year in order of favourites” it’d very obviously be number 1 and all that.

2012

So like, I do like JoJo obviously, and it’s not necessarily something I couldn’t see being my favourite show in any given year, though I do think it being the only contender is just indication that I’ve not exactly seen too many shows from 2012. Just going through MAL charts again and it seems like a good chunk of the 2012 shows I’ve seen are things I only got around to within the last year or so. And on that note I now get to say my favourite 2012 anime is the first season of Symphogear pog - even with people regarding it as the weakest season all around there’s still a lot I love about it so.

2013

Peeping MAL seasonal charts again and Love Live SIP s1 was beyond a fair choice for me to have put on that list at the time. And while I think SIP s2 surpasses it by quite a lot, I do still think s1 is real fucking great and I’d be more than happy to call it my AOTY 2013. Except uh, Non Non Biyori s1 aired in 2013 as well. I simply rated that higher. Non Non Biyori AOTY 2013.

2014

So I guess this is our first year where I was really conflicted, which ngl feels odd in retrospect. No Game No Life is pretty great but it’s not gonna be my anime of the year; Stardust Crusaders s1 is kind of a fucking drag lol; actually super content having Gochiusa here since I do fucking adore that series; but it really fucks with me that even for a second I didn’t instantly think of SIP s2 as being AOTY here. Because it’s hella a 10/10 lol and literally one of my favourites ever now. Easily. Still holds as AOTY.

2015

This is another instance of me being right the first time with Hibike - my 3rd favourite anime lol. This year did have more great seasons for Symphogear, Gochiusa, and Non Non Biyori, but Hibike > all of those.

2016

Flip Flappers is about as “duh” a pick as I’d ever go with, I have nothing else to add other than its closest competition being Hibike season 2.

2017

Yeah so here comes the really difficult year that I just couldn’t settle on a favourite show for. Maid Dragon, Made in Abyss, Princess Principal, and Girls’ Last Tour are all fucking fantastic shows and I adore every single one of them. Plus at this point in time I get to say Symphogear AXZ and Houseki no Kuni are the running as well. What an unreasonably good year this was for anime lol. Though I guess the choice most accurate to my MAL favourites, and what I’d probably go for gun to my head anyway - is Girls’ Last Tour. Show just too exceptionally good among a year loaded up on exceptionally great shows.

2018

Actually surprised I so confidently put down just Yorimoi here as though it’s not constantly competing with Yuru Camp in my mind. Quite a few other great shows in 2018 but none really touch either of those two. Do think I’d probably pick Yorimoi over Yuru Camp season 1 so happy with this tbh.

2019

Mob Psycho s2 is a hell of an outlier to my usual taste, particularly given what the hypothetical revised list looks like at this point. But like, even to this day, even with Symphogear’s final and greatest season airing in the same year, do think I gotta give the edge to mob lol. Just too great a show.

So anyway since I guess I just concluded my top 10 anime of the 2010′s let’s run down the revised list.

2010: K-On!!

2011: Puella Magi Madoka Magica

2012: Senki Zesshou Symphogear

2013: Non Non Biyori

2014: Love Live! School Idol Project Season 2

2015: Hibike! Euphonium

2016: Flip Flappers

2017: Girls’ Last Tour

2018: A Place Further Than The Universe

2019: Mob Psycho 100 II
