“doesn’t matter. i won’t have to worry about it too much because she’s never going to find out that i’m her secret santa,” jisung retorts as he tosses a pillow at hyunjin. the older boy immediately shields kkami, growling at jisung for threatening the safety of his pup. “and she’s never going to find out i’ve been in love with her for the past two years,” the younger adds under his breath.

“right, because it’s not at all obvious that you’re the only one who would drop that much money on the exact necklace she wanted,” he mumbles under his breath, leaving jisung to his lovestruck idiocy.

“oh my god.” both her and her best friend, chaeryoung, gape at the glistening rose gold necklace that she holds up in front of her, the simplistically silver wrapping paper discarded at her side.

“isn’t that the necklace you wanted? and wasn’t that two hundred dollars?” chaeryoung’s tone of disbelief resonates throughout the room as her gaze remains frozen on the necklace.

“only you knew i wanted this, chae!” she says, only for chaeryoung to rapidly shake her head.

“you know who i got, you even went shopping for him with me.” chaeryoung says, her cheeks lighting aflame because everyone knows by now that she has a crush on seungmin and he just so happened to be the exact person who she had received as her secret santa.

“alright, but changbin’s the only one with the money to drop so easily on this,” she says pointedly.

“okay, then who else would go five times over the budget?” she asks as she gently lays the necklace back into its box.

“for you? i don’t know, maybe try the guy that’s been in big lo–“ hyunjin begins to mutter to himself, only to receive an elbow to the rib from jisung next to him. he curls in pain as jisung forces an innocent laughter.

“jisung?”

the said boy’s head snaps up like a deer caught in the headlights, and beside him, hyunjin smirks through the pain of his ribs.

“ding ding ding!” changbin sounds sarcastically, impatiently confirming her guess. “moving on to the next present!”

jisung bashfully looks down, knowing he’s been caught as she smiles softly at him and says “thank you,” before the gift exchange moves on.

jisung retreats outside after the gift exchange to cool his scarlet cheeks, and to calm his anxious nerves. she just figured out that he dropped two hundred dollars for her, and it certainly didn’t make it any better that changbin— whom he had trusted— had confirmed it.

he’s anxiously pacing back and forth and planning his next move on changbin’s balcony when he hears the sliding door open and close again. he groans to himself, because there goes his plan to jump off changbin’s balcony, disappear into the night, and escape the country. he breathes— sharp, shallow, and shaky— as he turns around to face the intruder.

“h-hi,” he manages to stutter out.

a melodic laughter sounds between the both of them, and he damn well near melts into the snow as he hears it.

“hi, jisung. merry christmas.” she hands him a gift, and his eyes widen as he received the neatly wrapped box.

“but why?” jisung closes the box and sets it down on the table beside him, finding the courage to attempt to search her eyes for an answer even though she refuses to raise her gaze to meet his.

“because i wanted to get you something? and i-i… well, i like to think we’re more than ‘just friends’ so i decided you were worth dropping the money on…” jisung can now tell how bright her cheeks burn with how red they are, even against the dark shroud of the midnight moon.

“more than… just friends?” jisung probes, still not getting her drift even as his heart elates with joy.

“just fucking kiss already!” hyunjin yells, muffled but still heard through the closed glass door, and jisung’s eyes widen as his eyes shift to the glass door just in time to see minho smacking hyunjin’s head. she whips around like lightning too, but the friction of her boots against the damp marble of the balcony causes her to stumble.

quickly, jisung holds his arms out to balance her, holding her by her waist as she regains the balance in her legs.

“oh.”

in the corner of his eyes, jisung sees chan shooing away the other boys and girls before shooting him the signature dad smile and two thumbs up.

“they’re gone now,” he says as she regains her balance.
