Hello! I'm happy to announce I'm running #comicscarletwitchweek again, like last year from August 1st to August 7th. Unlike last year, the themes for every day are more loose, with very simple words for people to put any meaning they wish to. I will leave suggestions for what each day could represent, but these are only suggestions for anyone who might need a little inspiration or guide.

As always, this week is centered on Wanda's comic book appearances. MCU & MCU adjacent content is not what we're looking for & won't be reblogged. There is no expectation to participate in every day, this is merely a week to share your love for Wanda's comic book appearances!

Day 1, 1st of August, Tuesday - Solo

definition; done by one person alone; unaccompanied. You can take solo to refer to one of her solo comics, wherever that be her 4 issue limited from 1994, James Robinson's 2015 series, or Steve Orlando's upcoming series. You could also take it to refer to Wanda by herself, to reflect on who she is divorced from her other connections. Maybe you want to write about her delivering a sick guitar solo in a band au!

Day 2, 2nd of August, Wednesday - Identity

definition; the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. Wanda has many idenities accumilated over the year; sister, wife, mother, teacher, and many more. This day offers an opportunity to explore one or more of her identities in whatever way you want to or to focus on one particular aspect of her. Wherever you want to focus on Wanda's identity with motherhood, the way her identity with herself has changed & evolved over the years, or a headcanon for her being queer, all are welcomed & accepted!

Day 3, 3rd of August, Thursday - Fairytale

definition; a short story that belongs to the folklore genre. This could entail Wanda reading a bedtime story to her children, Wanda reimagined in a fairy-tale based alternate universe, expanding on the Wanda's depicted in the Marvel: Fairy Tales series, Wanda dealing with some fictional creature from folklore or something else.

Day 4, 4th of August, Friday - Teamwork

definition; the collaborative effort of a group to achieve a common goal or to complete a task. This could be interpreted as making something for Wanda & your preferred team with her, or Wanda teaming up with another character, etc.

Day 5, 5th of August, Saturday - Family

definition; a group of persons united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption. Wanda has grown an expansive family over the years, thanks in part to many retcons. Here, you can focus on her relationship with her brother, or the family she finds in the Avengers, or the family she & Vision build in Vision & the Scarlet Witch, or her various revolving door of parents.

Day 6, 6th of August, Sunday - Power

definition; ability to do or act; capability of doing or accomplishing something. This could apply to Wanda's physical powers & how those have changed over the years, her status as a Nexus Being, or the ways in which characters like Chthon have attempted to rob Wanda of her power & how she's grown for that, or an idea for an interesting application of her powers.

Day 7, 7th of August, Monday - Free Day

Do anything you want! Expand on a day, do something AU based, do a roleswap, just use it to do something general / nonthemed, anything goes!

In honor of it being winx 19th birthday, how would you rank the seasons?

oooooooooooohhhhhhh that’s a hard one…. I’ll rank up to 6 cause I stopped watching after that

1st- This was honestly going to be a tie between 2 and 3 but in the end 3 won out. It has a more interesting plot and introduces our lovely Enchantix but it’s also a little too Bloom focused and the ending… I never was the biggest fan of the ending if I’m being 100% honest, like… a 5 minute battle after ALL of that? But it did also have some of the best moments and my fave moments like the Crystal Labyrinth, Flora’s Enchantix, the whole Omega/Tecna plotline and more. Also since the entire Club is established at this point we get to explore their dynamic a bit more. Though Musa and Flora blend a bit into the background at times and we rarely get any Specialist moments. But overall, for me it’s the best to me.

2nd- Season 2. We get Darkar, Aisha’s epic introduction and her arc, little moments for all the girls’ Charmix. HELIA?! HELIA AND FLORA?! AAAAAA!!!! Sorry fangirled there a bit. I feel like we got to see a bit more of the boys this season so I loved that. Darkar is an epic, creepy villain and I feel like the Trix are still good in this season. Also Dark Bloom was lowkey iconic and I loved the pixies this season. For me seasons 2 and 3 are very close in this ranking. The only reason it’s second is because s3 has a bit more memorable moments and of course, Enchantix.

3rd- This might surprise yall but… season 4. I LOVE season 4. I love the Wizards, their dynamic and personalities, Anagan’s little weird flirting with Flora? Gold. It has a lot of unnecessary drama between the Specialists and the Winx but I can let it slide because of the great ideas. We get the Wizards of the Black Circle, the dynamic with Roxy as we get to see another young girl get her world twisted upside down. Then, we free the Earth fairies and… they want fucking revenge. And that’s awesome. The timeline makes absolutely no fucking sense though. I’ll be honest, this one is mostly here due to nostalgia (this season was my fave for a very long time) and ideas not necessarily execution. But this one will always have a special place in my heart.

4th- the one that started it all, season 1! The one where we get introduced to almost all of the girls the only season in which Riven actually gets to keep his development, it’s he best season of the Trix and… this one is probably the most coherent one when it comes to plot since the plot had to be simple since we were just being introduced to the characters and world. I love this season so much. The only reason it isn’t higher is mostly cause the others just have so much more going on that this one can fade a bit into the background but I still absolutely adore it. Also, I have a thing with insects so the Army of Darkness still gives me the creeps to this day just… no- ew

5th- Now on to where I personally feel the decline truly started, season 5. So, they returned the squad to school with no explanation and just… okay? Then all of a sudden Aisha have these cousins that have never been shown before and one of them is evil and has the Trix join him and… okay? And then… it’s just a mess of somewhat good ideas but this is also when they start making the Winx childish like, even more than they were in season 1. And I cannot remember anything about the boys this season, literally just that stupid amnesia plotline like- what?! Can we please just give Bloom and Sky a break? I actually liked the idea of them breaking up to give themselves sometime but no let’s just get fucking- I can’t even. This was just a weird season overall to me. I liked the concept of the oceans and sometimes it was done really well other times not. Also the Trix just… lose their impact

6th- now… wow… I like some of the concepts here, mainly Selina and the Legendarium but they were executed so fucking horribly. I adore the Bloomix designs like, I might even put them above Enchanitx they are so fucking pretty but the way they get it is just… such bullshit? And then the Legendarium could’ve been a chance to make up myths for other planets but no for some reason they are all from Earth? And then Daphne’s random ass plotline and randomly getting married and just what?! The only thing I liked were the designs, Helia and Flora having a conflict even if it was a bit stupid and Musa losing her voice. That’s literally all I can remember cheering for. And now we have a form unironically called Bloomix… remember when I said season 3 focused a bit too much on Bloom? Yeah… also I fucking hate the fairy godmother I’m not even going to look up her name. Selina had potential but then the Trix at this point are just pitiful. So yeah, this is when I oficially gave up on the series, I didn’t even watch the full final few episodes I just skimmed them.

And that’s the ranking! Also, Winx is now my same age, I feel fucking old ajjajajaja.

He consorts with the lords of the giants to plot the downfall of smaller mortals, and courts powerful beings of cold and ice to be his wife, including the queen of the frost giants and the faerie queen of witches. His plans and courtships are often interrupted by intense bouts of fury however, as his own daughter seeks to sabotage his goals by encouraging mortal heroes to provoke his rage by stealing treasure or rustle his winter wolves. This rage often leads to the deaths of the provokers, but to his daughter's eyes that is better than the much wider scale destruction that would occur if her father wasn't distracted.

Pathfinder

Boreas rules over a portion of the Crown of the World, his followers occasionally descending to the south to harass the lands to the south of him. Northern Avistan and Tian Xia have dealt with the Devourer's rages before, though rarely does descend too deeply before the comparatively warm weather saps his anger and he returns to his frozen home to brood off the rest of his fury.

13th Age

While Boreas' realm sits well beyond the boundaries of the Dragon Empire, this distant being is an Icon of far off lands, and his influence may occasionally extend into the empire during his rages. Heroes seeking to travel far to the north may find an entire new collection of Icons to contend with, their connections to the icons of the empire having less sway and influence.

Ranking the girls magic Winx outfits

I was bored so I figured I was gonna make a post about my favorite show growing up. Favorite show is an euphemism, it was actually my religion 😂

Disclaimer: This is only my personal opinion^^

6th place: Tecna (4,5/10)

While I applaud the originality...might be a lil too original for my taste. It took me 18 years to figure out the green things on her back were wings. I don't like the shape of the helmet and - this one is personal - but purple has never been my color. And I know she was sweating in that damn suit. The one detail I do like is the shape of the heels. She still looks good though, I mean, when did she ever not look good ?

5th place: Bloom (5,5/10)

Bloom is my favorite Winx (I'm only talking about s1-3 Bloom, we don't talk about the other one) but while Tecna is too much, I feel like her transformation is too simple ? It's pretty, but it lacks some element that would distinguish it from the others, some originality...some spark. I do like the shape of the top and the boots are cute. Also think there is some appeal to simplicity + blue really is her color. Wished they did something with her hair it would have made a big difference.

4th place: Musa (7,5/10)

I really hesitated but finally put her at 4th. I love the high boots and the see-through part of the outfit. The ribbon on her arm is a nice detail but what I like the most is the shape of her wings, reminds me of a dragonfly, sooo cute. Of course her piggytails are iconic (bonus point for the headset) and there's no better match than black hair with a red outfit. Really, the only reason it's not higher on the list is because while I think it looks great, I would've liked something a little more...idk messy for Musa ? You know something that screams rebel, this outfit needed some ripped parts to it.

3rd place: Flora (8,5/10)

Hesitated btw her and Musa, but she won the dual. I love the shades of pink they used and I think it complements her skin tone perfectly + the symmetry of it all is sooo satisfying to me. Her wings scream tinkerbell and the color prevents the whole thing from being too...pink. I love the shape of the top, kinda looks like a corset and same goes for the gloves (the end of the gloves looks like petals). Overall, her outfit screams Flora and is just the perfect mix of glamor and femininity.

2nd place: Aisha/Layla (9,5/10)

First, I think green does wonders when paired with dark skin/dark hair and she is no exception. I love the skirt and the fact that we can see the shorts underneath. The shape of the outfit is chaotic and asymmetrical and I love it (especially the silver ring on her hip which links several parts of the outfit together which is so pretty and original). Bonus points for the jewelry (simple, but so effective) and the white heels which are so satisfying to me for some obscure reason.

1st place: Stella (10/10)

This one is a mistery to me. It's almost as simple as Bloom's outfit, but idk it just works so well ? Like it was meant to be ? Her boots are iconic, the twintails/bangs/headband combo is deadly. The fact that the headband is matching whatever is on her arms. I'm personally a sucker for shorts and for some reason it goes so well with the shape of the top ? And orange is just soooo her color. It screams hot, it screams Stella. I think every element on its own is rather simple but when put together they just work. Oh, and the three part wings are so pretty and add the extravagance the whole look needed.

Winx fashion - casual outfits

I am bored. So, I will rank the Winx' casual outfits from every season of Winx Club (8 so far) according to my own tastes. It's purely my personal opinion.

The 8th position in the countdown goes to... Season 2.

Don't get me wrong. I do think they are nice outfits. I am just not much of a fan of them for some reason. There are lots of variations on Bloom's outfit in this season. Actually, they wear season 1 outfits as well as season 3 ones most of the time.

The 7th position in my list is... Season 7, lol.

They wear uniforms for some reason. They are pretty similar, because they are uniforms. But I do like the colour palettes and the high ponytails of Bloom and Stella. Musa's earrings are great too.

The 6th position goes to... Season 8!

They are pretty outfits. Yes. Especially, Stella and Flora look great. Aisha slays too. I do like Bloom and Musa as well. Tecna's style, technically looks completely different from anything she's ever worn. But it's still good.

The 5th position of this countdown is reserved for... Season 6.

As much as it's true that the season 6 uniforms are mostly just pink and lavender with maybe a bit of blue and gray… I still do like them. But I liked the initial concept look more. There, the deep pink and black combination was more eye-catchy. Again, Musa looks the best, I think. Bloom's hairstyle is something new and good.

The 4th position is for... Season 4.

Yes, the outfits they wear in Gardenia as their casual wears are pretty cool. I mostly love Musa's look. She looks a lot more feminine than before, by the way. Bloom in so much pink is a new one starting from season 4 but it was good in my opinion.

The 3rd position is definitely for... Season 1!

The original season also had one of the 3 most iconic casual looks according to me. Every one of the girls looked great. I mostly like Bloom, Stella and Flora's dress designs in the first season. Not much of a fan of Musa's design. Tecna's earrings in this season are by far the best accessories she's ever had.

On to the 2nd position and it's for... Season 5.

Yeah that's right. I like girly clothing more. This season's casual outfits were pretty sweet and also individualized. Bloom looks good in blue and pink, Stella's dress in pink, purple and orange is just amazing... plus, she wears a hairband again. Yay. Flora's hair up in a ponytail with a green bow is really good. Musa looks more tomboyish again, Tecna's dress in this season looks the best on her, Aisha is pretty vibrant herself. No complaints. The boots they wear are great too.

Finally, the 1st position and it goes to... Season 3.

I am not biased. I really am not. Season 3 really does have the best looks. All the casual outfits are amazing with special mentions of Musa's outfit with her changed hairstyle and length, plus Stella is a total queen. Bloom looks so cute... I just can't!

As someone who has trouble taking appropriate length showers, I cultivated a short shower playlist to help me w that. It goes like this:

1st, Droplet Drive, 3:22 minutes. Turn on the shower, let it heat up a bit. Brush your teeth. Mb take a piss

2nd, Away, 3:31 minutes. Get in, get wet, wash your face if you're narsty.

3rd, We Are The Ones Who Will Change The World, 3:24 minutes. Shampoo your hair, and if it doesn't lather, shampoo it twice. Rinse. Start scrubbing your body.

4th, Tuvan, 2:50 minutes. Conditioner your hair. Your hair and scalp will thank you, I promise. Will it sets in, finish scrubbing your body. Rinse.

5th, Waka Waka, 3:52 minutes. Iconic. Recognizable. This is your time to finish and vibe

6th, Further, 1:40 minutes. Just a treat. Time to get out.

Day 1, 1st of August - Favourite Comic Era

Wanda is a character with a history spanning over almost 70 years, with lots to choose from from each decade. Wherever you prefer her on Cap’s Kooky Quartet, her domestic bliss in Vision and the Scarlet Witch or her rebooted life in Scarlet Witch v2, this is a time to show appreciation for your favourite decade in Wanda’s life.

Day 2, 2nd of August - Favourite Relationship

Wanda has had lots of friends, family and lovers over the years, and this is the time to show your love for your favourite relationship of hers! Between her twin brother Pietro, her various parental figures, her well known marriage to The Vision, her blossoming relationship with Jericho Drumm, her various friendships with the likes of Janet Van Dyne, Steve Rogers and Julia Carpenter, or her two sons Tommy & Billy there are plenty of interesting and dynamic relationships to explore with Wanda!

Day 3, 3rd of August - Favourite Colour

She’s the Scarlet Witch, but what other colours do you like with Wanda? Pink, yellow, green or others, there’s plenty of colours that Wanda has appeared in over the years other than the classic Scarlet. Wherever it’s her old faithful or another colour you like with the Scarlet Witch this allows to show appreciation for your favourite colour of Wanda’s.

Day 4, 4th of August - Favourite Headcanon

With so many conflicting portrayals & retcons of Wanda plenty of people have headcanons about her, wherever it be on her powers, her history, her parentage, her journey with mental illness, her sexuality, etc. This day is perfect to explore your favourite non-canon ideas on Wanda, from the mundane to the epic.

Day 5, 5th of August - Favourite Team

She’s been part of and even lead many teams, and this day allows for you to explore & show your love for your favourite team that Wanda’s been a member of. From the early days on the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants to her long history with the Avengers to leading Force Works and being a member of both the West Coast Avengers and the Avengers Unity Squad, or even her brief moments with the Defenders there are plenty of teams to love with Wanda.

Day 6, 6th of August - Favourite Costume

Wanda’s had a lot of costumes over the years, from her original wimple and cape to her Force Works dress to her Kevin Wada gothic-inspired costume from Scarlet Witch V2. Perhaps there’s a certain aspect of her costume that you want to showcase, like her many headdresses or her long flowing capes. Whatever it is, this day is the time to focus on one of Wanda’s many costumes and outfits that she’s had.

Day 7, 7th of August - Free Day!

What it says on the tin! You can do absolutely anything you want on this day, you can use it to showcase another relationship or costume etc of Wanda’s, or you can do something completely your own, like focusing on an alternate universe, making an AU of some kind, focusing on your favourite power set, whatever you want you can include it on this day!

How would you rank the 18 Class Trials from THH, DR2, and V3 from worst to best?

This is... virtually impossible for me, lol. Comparing the trials from each game to each other?

How about I just rank them within each game? That'll make it a little easier for me to deal with...

DR1

6) 5th. It's driven by lies and ultimately rushed to its end before the characters can draw any solid (pointless/meaningless) conclusions. So of course it's last for this game, and it’s probably last for the entire series as well. If there are any saving graces to this trial, it’s the surprise when your closest ally is willing to let our protagonist die... and that this trial contains the fake/bad ending route.

5) 3rd. Although the main culprit is pretty obvious from the jump, it requires some surprising twists to explain how everything got to be the way it turned out. But did I always find those twists plausible? Errrrm... not really.

4) 2nd. Pretty good trial that's hurt for me by the fact that there'd barely be any need for a trial at all if a certain third party didn't dick around with the evidence for no reason. Also, the dual nature of Toko is an incredibly predictable reveal. Without those two aspects dragging it down, though, this could easily go higher.

3) 1st. Sure, the major hint given and, subsequently, the eventual culprit are pretty obvious, but this one establishes so much about how the trials work and how much the details you observe will matter that it’s still pretty fun that first time around. The initial surprise of the first victim makes for a great way to keep you invested in the trial experience. This trial is damn near iconic now, so it feels almost mandatory to respect it.

2) 6th. DR1 still has the best "final trial,” easily. SO MANY great reveals, and they all totally work for me. Nothing rings false or disappointing, and it also features Makoto finally coming into his own and taking the lead. I nearly labeled this my top pick for DR1, but...

1) 4th. It's easily the most emotionally dramatic/satisfying for me, and there’s something weirdly inspirational for me about Hina’s incredibly harsh stance during it. This one GOT ME IN THE FEELS, and in part that was because I saw so little of it coming. After the more predictable elements of the first and third trials, this felt like the writing was firing on all cylinders.

DR2

6) 2nd. You have to accept a couple leaps of logic to make this trial keep flowing, and the fact that trial is ultimately reliant on someone noticing a candy that’s very small and hard to see while the person is also in a stressful situation and they are groggy from being drugged/asleep and it necessitates the person retaining this seemingly useless detail inside their brain .... that’s always bugged me. The “escape route” conversation even retroactively raises questions about the first trial. Oof. On the upside, the reveals it brought us about Fuyuhiko and Peko were incredibly important, satisfying, and legit surprising turns. And it’s pretty cool how it’s basically a two-for-one combo trial because you have to solve the Twilight Syndrome case before you solve the current case.

5) 3rd. Other people have pointed out the leaps of logic and missing pieces of this trial, but at the same time, the candlelight hanging is so intense and the ultimate reveal of the culprit is such a brutal turn that I have to give it some props. The culprit’s primary plan is ultimately one of the most ingenious in the series, IMO, and definitely one of the most twisted/fucked-up, which earns it some points.

4) 4th. This is probably the single murder case in the franchise that I understood the absolute least about when entering the trial, for better or worse. On the one hand, that made it really fun to see the mystery gradually unfurl, but on the other hand, it made it tough for me to provide the right answers at certain points in the trial, leaving me fumbling. A big part of those issues was how it was initially hard for me to wrap my head around the nature of the funhouse via the provided 2D graphics... but once I eventually got there, I had to respect the creativity that went into devising such a “weapon.” Also, it can be hard to tolerate Komaeda in this trial. He’s even more of a know-it-all-but-reveal-none-of-it jackass than ever before, and his turn towards overt cruelty towards the others (and Hajime in particular) left me raging. The culprit reveal is good, but the motive does beg the question of why he didn’t just come forward from the jump.

3) 6th. There are a lot of great reveals in the final trial that totally reframe how you see the characters, and some of them are deliciously twisted. There’s also a ton of great dialogue provided, and in retrospect, it’s actually sort of neat to have one endgame mastermind reveal in this franchise that doesn’t involve the “They were hiding among us this whole time” trope. All that plus the surprise return of our surviving heroes from the first game! However, this is also where they officially reveal a core element of DR2 and its setting that I've never liked. This knocks the trial down a few pegs for me. Of course, by the time you reach the trial, I'm sure 99% of players have already figured that particular "twist" out. There’s adequate evidence to predict it in the first freaking chapter, and I know this because I DID predict it in the first chapter of my initial playthrough... which further hurts the supposed “reveal” of the island’s true nature when it comes around.

2) 1st. Probably my favorite of the “first trials,” there are lot of components that go into this one. There’s a combination of two premeditated killers plus one spur-of-the-moment accidental victim, there’s a satisfying (though admittedly maybe too easy) reveal of the killer being one of the most unpleasant people to be around during the first chapter, and I really dig how audio became a very important component of the mystery due to the total blackout. This is also the part of the game where we learn just how twisted Komaeda really is, which is HUGE both in terms of its immediate shock factor for a total newcomer and in terms of its impact on the game as a whole. Of course, since it’s a “first trial,” it can’t be too complicated... but they still manage to confuse so many of us with “MEAT ON THE BONE” :P

1) 5th. Again, I will almost always give the most emotionally intense one the top slot. The “traitor reveal” is obviously THAT MOMENT in DR2. I also love how this one used the strange internal logic established early in the game RE: Komaeda’s luck to develop the eventual solution. And forcing us to make use of evidence gathered in multiple locations outside of the immediate site of the body/murder? That more complexity of that type that I see relevant to a trial, the more I appreciate it, and this one has loads of that stuff. Although I guess the investigation isn’t technically part of the trial itself... but it’s still very relevant to it.

6) 4th. I found this whole trial to be just... extremely predictable. Maybe it’s because I was so far into the series that I’d gotten used to its tricks by this point, but this was the most predictable trial for me since the first one in the first game. The whole looping/rollover map setup of the VR? Obvious. The murder weapon? Obvious. Our culprit’s ongoing confusion at everything discussed? Obvious. There were only a couple of points I didn’t have already figured out when I walked into the trial room, and those turned out to be basically irrelevant (such as the bottle of poison). The eventual motive is at least a surprise, but I also found it hard to accept that this culprit would really kill people over it. Overall: Super lame.

5) 3rd. Another double murder trial, and once again one murder overshadows the other. The séance murder is definitely clever. Sure, you know the culprit pretty early on, but the methodology is the good part. However, the real fascinating one for me is the art lab “locked room” murder. Going into the trial, I couldn’t fathom how they were going to explain that one, and I found the answer both smart and satisfying. It’s funny to imagine how many times the culprit had to try that stunt with the lock before it actually worked, heh. This is probably the best of the three “double murder” mysteries in the series, but the trial isn’t as emotionally affecting as the 3rd trial in DR2 to me. Moreover, the trial loses points for the most infuriating Hangman’s Gambit of the series and especially for the motive reveal. When the killer’s motive can be boiled down to “they’re basically just a psycho serial killer,” it’s not very interesting.

4) 6th. The first part of the trial, which deals with re-assessing the first case? It’s pretty damn on-point. That leads to the mastermind reveal, which... isn’t great, really. It’s not a terribly interesting character to make the mastermind, they have no interesting motives or characterization to unevil, and they’re ultimately just a pawn behind another, off-screen group of masterminds. But then things get uproariously funny to me. The metatextual stuff is just so goddamn ridiculous. It’s frustrating and annoying how much of our not-mastermind’s explanation is clearly full of lies and half-truths that we’ll never have complete answers on, but that’s also part of what makes it all fascinating. We get to swap protagonists like four times! There’s a fake-out Game Over! These are really cool things. But it all leads down the road of our protagonist arguing that fiction does affect reality (yes, good), that fictional people can still matter (definitely) and that... fictional lives are equal in value to real ones? Uhhhhh slow down there, champ. That only works for YOUR universe, where fictional people can be made out of living, breathing individuals. But in light of the metatextual stuff you’re surrounded by, you kinda sound silly AF right now?

3) 2nd. Look, this is still incredibly irritating to me. Also, if you go down the alternate “lying” route at one point, you are forced to accept that these piranhas were somehow trained to only eat dead things, which is just... so deeply dumb. But what is good is the entire ropeway conceit (which is a very significant part of the trial!) and the idea of the partition inside the tank. This was a murder with an elaborate, intelligent plan that is very well-executed. And the motive reveal? It’s one of the best in the series! I respect that stuff. (If I had the right to toss the execution in as part of the soup, I’d say that it’s also one of the series’ best. Let’s call it the icing on the cake.)

2) 1st. The writing that made this trial work is undeniably clever. The way the narration told us exactly what was happening without really telling us what was happening? It was a masterstroke of both great writing and perfect localization coming together. When it becomes clear during the trial what is about to happen, it’s a huge shock. The transition to another protagonist with the lights flickering out and back on is beautiful. Even the core concept of a protagonist who was willing to step up and try to kill the mastermind immediately is just deeply interesting. And obviously this one made my emotions run high. HOWEVER! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Kaede Akamatsu was a more interesting, unique, and compelling protagonist than Shuichi Saihara ever was. Ultimately, the protagonist-swap, no matter how well-written, was a mistake because they shifted us from a unique character with an interesting new perspective to a character who is, in many ways, “Makoto Naegi with even less self-esteem.” Yes, I know he has aspects that make him distinct as his own person, but there’s still just too much there that feels like we’ve done it before, and he never fully escapes from that. It feels like a massive waste and a huge missed opportunity to ditch Kaede like this. Now, if they had just done the protagonist swap in reverse — making us start out with Shuichi before flipping things over to Kaede — we could’ve had ourselves something amazing here.

1) 5th. I know I decided that I couldn’t rank all among each other, but if I did do that, I feel confident that the 5th trial in DRV3 would rank very high indeed. You go into the trial unable to even determine who the victim was due to the fact that two people are missing and there was nothing left of the body that spoke to an identity. Going into it, you naturally figure that one of the two missing parties has to be the victim and the other one is probably the culprit. But even with just two friggin’ suspects, the amount of turnabouts in the case that made me rethink all my assumptions was insane. Sure, the explanation for how the person inside the Exisal can maintain “character” is pretty damn thin, but once you get past that, I don’t think there’s a single false note in the trial. It even breaks unprecedented ground by continuing into another Non-Stop Debate after everyone has already voted. And of course, it culminates with a lot of intense emotion. Even the execution is emotionally satisfying! ..... although I’m not sure if I should count the execution as part of the trial, but hey, still. As far as Dangan trials go, the fifth one in DRV3 is basically a masterpiece.
