For context, I believe Rauru’s Hyrule is a “new” Hyrule founded after the past version(s) fell long in the past (allowing it to exist in any timeline, etc)
I was thinking about Ganondorf and reincarnation. My theory naturally implies TOTK Ganondorf is not literally The Same Dude from OOT that all the other appearances of Ganon(dorf) are. Well, except maybe Four Swords Adventures, but that’s kinda vague. Uh, anyway
The conversation that naturally crops up when it comes to reincarnation in the Zelda series is the touchy subject that is Demise’s Curse and what it actually means on a practical level. People tend to interpret it to either mean Ganondorf is a literal reincarnation of Demise, or an incarnation of Demise’s hatred. But I really don’t think so.
Demise’s curse specifically states that “an incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time!” The obvious way to interpret this is the idea that some Big Evil Guy will pop up now and again to toss a bowling ball at Hyrule and knock a few pins over until some kid in green PJs comes along and smacks them around a bit, but I really don’t think it’s meant to be nearly that literal. Mostly because it would remove literally all agency from Ganondorf. Which is lame. And also, it kinda doesn’t make sense? Not every conflict in Hyrulean history involves Ganondorf. Hyrule has quite the blood-soaked sea of darkness all on its own, no Ganondorf required. Even ignoring all the stuff involving Vaati, there’s the Hyrulean Civil War, which, granted, is implied to have potentially involved the Gerudo, but very likely had several different players, and it was the Hylians who were clearly taking power, as they’re the ones who eventually wound up on top.
All of this to say, I think the incarnation of Demise’s hatred is less Ganondorf and more just the general greed and desire for power that those who inhabit Hyrule may feel. That Ganondorf happens to really enjoy having power simply makes him an obvious example, but by that same token it paints many of the various monarchs and royals in Hyrulean history in a similar light. It also means that those who fall prey to this are still perfectly in control of their own actions. They are culpable, and still complex people rather than just being the literal incarnations of evil. It also means that the fact that Ganondorf can reincarnate is less to do with being Demise reborn and more to do with him just having an exceptionally strong will and spirit all on his own
That said, I am Not a good Analyst and I’m mostly throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping something sticks. So uh dear smart person who is also a big Ganondorf fan does any of this spaghetti stick
Heyy thank you so much for this ask, it's super interesting!
I agree that the curse being more about light beckoning darkness, and stability demanding upheaval just like absolute order leads to death just as surely as entropy does, feels very appropriate and binds the entire series together.
I also think this Ganondorf being a different dude, and the kingdom of Hyrule being one of its many versions, makes the most sense (even if I'm a little sad because my favorite part of Ganondorf is how his arc pans out across several games, I think the gaps between each game nourish him into a more interesting version of himself and I'm sad this one loses all the previous buildup of content --even if that makes sense, his last version was 17 years ago so okay I guess.....)
I've seen takes that say that TotK is the real, historical version of the legends that are Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past and even perhaps Skyward Sword... and I'm really not on board personally. Not because they're Wrong to think that, it might even be what Nintendo is going for tbh, but it just comes down to me believing this version of the events is so much weaker and less rich than the legends they're based on, and that kind of doesn't make sense to me that reality would be even more black and white and drab than the way people (especially the victors) would have retold the story to each other? Again, I think that's really the heart of why TotK is not landing with me: if you recovering your past leads to you being coddled in what you already and always believed, then the world feels crazy claustrophobic to me? It's just not how these things tend to happen in real life, so if it does here... it's suffocating? Inescepable, almost?
(I mean Zelda always had this vibe of being pretty existentially horrifying when unpacked for two seconds, but I think this iteration pushes it to unprecedented heights)

always weird to me when ppl talk about growing up on zelda bc before like 2 months ago the only zelda game ive EVER played was Link’s Crossbow Training on the wii which i had the cross bow accessory for, the only other media i ever consumed w/ zelda characters in it was super smash brothers brawl and ultimate which...did not very much prepare more for the vastness of zelda’s franchise

I like to think since Wind is the only boy in his family, he picked up some stuff. Can you draw him in a pretty dress please?
Tumblr media
based on how much he haaated the hero's tunic and the general fashion sense on outset I think he would rlly enjoy smth loose and breezy :] dress on the left is zelda's alltp dress though! which i think is sooo pretty and cute

Omg thank you very much, thank you very much, your comic has always lifted me up after a difficult week and I don't know why I've always felt in sympathy with legend since alttp, and seeing your comic always gives me a zelda vibe like a spiritual continuation at some point on the timeline . my younger sister picked up the comic to read it from the beginning together (I was already on the last update but I haven't told her yet) and now she's convinced herself to play alltp and minish cap with the help of a zelda veteran... me here, but anyway, we love your comics, I follow both your accounts and love your work, arts and designs, in conclusion I wanted you to know that I will always support your work and everything you do in the future. (Again sorry for my English) @minas-linkverse

HW: all three timelines converged into one, bringing heroes, enemies, and more from each. The timeline guardian (is that Lana/Cia's title? I can't remember) is irreversibly split in two. It isn't actually Link's fault, yeah, but it's his 'adventure'.
OOT/MM: 'lived' in three different timelines; died in one, killed ganon in another, then left that timeline to a third. The goddess literally had to flood the world in the second timeline because it was so irreparable. They don't call him the Hero of Time for nothing I suppose!
ALLTP (and all the other games he's in - this guy can't catch a break): made a wish to fix what ganon had done, essentially saving OOT/MM Link back in his time, so that there could be the two extra timelines where he didn't die (fun fact. He's also named after himself bc of his oracle of ages adventure, at least in the manga adaptation).

OKAY I had a really vivid dream and then ideas stemmed from that dream and it was to do with legend so naturally the first thing to do is tell you said ideas right?
Yk how ever since tears of the kingdom was announced people were coming up with content to do with wild getting taken away from the chain to do totk before getting given back to them post totk? Imagine that, but with legend instead cause I think it would be fun.
So basically, everything is the same except to begin with, alltp link is there. So the chain is panicking because why the fuck is there a literal 10 year old here, this is worse than the 13 year old- etc etc. But them being them, they adopt this kid quickly, this is their baby brother and you can't tell them otherwise. Wind is happy there's someone younger than him tbh. The kids also really young, so where legend probably only talks about his adventures during his once in a blood moon lore drops, this child talks about them properly and actually has time to process. He's still traumatised from them but he's dealing with it in a healthy way and is surprisingly good at helping the others too.
Then during a world switch, somehow the kid disappears. He's gone for about... a month for them and then comes back visibly older, and more scarred and traumatised, sporting a fever to boot. For a while they can't get him to say anything about what happened but he's still a young kid so they do get him to talk about it. How idk tbf I haven't thought that deeply into it.
The same thing keeps happening after that. He helps the chain for a few months, disappears for a while and then comes back older and with a new adventure under his belt. By the last one they understood what was happening, and just.. waited for their not so little brother to come back.
I feel like this version of legend would be a lot less prickly than the one we all love because he had a proper support system after each adventure who actually understood what he was going through. Obviously he'd still be sarcastic as fuck but that's just who he is, after all that's a link thing.
I also think that they'd call lil leg some form of rabbit nickname or something to do with the pink hair.
anyways you're cool and this was a thing. Thanks for reading it b y e
FUN FACT!!!!! This is a fic!
I didn't write it, but I remember it was one of the fics that made me love Legend when I was first getting into the fandom!
It opens with ALTTP Link running into a random portal to escape the knights in his era and accidentally coming across the chain. warriors is actually like one of the first one's he meets, and because KNIGHT he goes into full panic mode. Warriors and the others help calm him down though, and eventually integrate them into their group. Wind and Warriors are debatably the closest with him, because Wind has a little brother now, and Warriors because after the misunderstanding when they meet, he kind of becomes Little Leg's protector and safe person.
And then Legend gets thrown back.
He thinks it's a dream, or he made it up to process his loneliness, but then after all his adventures, he finds a portal again, like he used to go through with his big brotehrs, and he's both scared and warily hopefull. He goes through, thinking they'll have grown and changed like him, that he's still the youngest.
He comes back on the same night he disappeared.
Nothing has changed.
They're still looking for him in a panic.
Naturally, Legend being Legend makes some comment about how they'll never find the kid they're looking for, and in a fit of protective big brother rage, Warriors absolutally loses it on him, thus forever imprinting the image of his big brother trying to kill him on Legend's mind.
They figure out what happens not long after, and of course Wars is apologetic, but Legend can now only see his protector as his attacker and a liar (Wars promised to never hurt him) and thus ANGST
The story is still in the works, but I would 100% go and read it! It's a real tear jerker!
.....I'll try and find the link, but if anyone else remembers what this one is called, please tell me, because now I ALSO want to read it.

🫶🏽 Hullo! We're the Bat Collective (🦇) the creator of Monstrous Fusion! We want to clarify that this is a Links Meet AU independent of Linked Universe or any other popular Links Meet AU. Our main account is @nebulapaws
Our Ask Box is; Open!
I ask that people be kind and respectful when answering questions. We are not a machine, we have a life outside this AU. You are completely allowed to draw fanart or write fanfics and don't be nervous to ping the account to show us! We love seeing what people have to create. We can't stop anyone from writing/drawing NSFW, we just ask that that not be shown to us. (This one is also common sense, but please do not write that about the children in this AU.) Thank you.
Detailed Synopsis;
Ancient forces have returned to the living world in the shadows of the divine. It struck before the goddesses can react and captured the goddess of courage, intending to spread their plague to the other three. Before she was fully imprisoned, she sent a warning to the goddess of Time; no one hero was enough, they needed as many hands on deck as possible.
Thus, the goddess of Time reached throughout the ages and pulled the heroes of old into one final adventure. They must battle the shadows of their past, present and future. One stumble, one falter or one wrong step, can lead to the end of the timeline and the creation of a new eternal age of darkness and despair.
Meet the Links (below the cut)
Artisan | ALBW/TFH (they/them) - A boisterous and adventurous young fellow. To the outside perspective, they can seem rather loud and oblivious--and they wouldn't deny it, either! What runs deeper, however, is a young person who has lost the deepest love, hoping desperately they can pick up the pieces left behind.
Engie | Spirit Tracks (he/they) - The Engineer is a smart young fellow. He's quite the boy scout--smart, kind and...a little too trusting for his own good--but he's terrible at fighting. He's shy, and not very people smart, but stubborn. In spite of his rather...poor sword skills, they've never heard the term "give up".
Eras | Hyrule Warriors (he/they) - In his prime time, he was the head of the Royal Guard, the most loyal soldier and best strategies. Now a retired war vet, Eras struggles in the shadows of the war. He's quiet, calculated but loyal to a deadly fault. He would do anything it takes, if that meant he could protect his family and kingdom.
Faye | OoT / MM (any/all) - A former hero that'd been turned into a monster upon getting lost in the Lost Woods. He's mistrusting of people, quiet and sneaky. If you aren't close with her, you'd think she's standoffish and unapproachable. Underneath that calloused exterior is a soft spoken child who wants to be loved. They just. Don't think anyone would love them enough to try.
Feathers | Skyward Sword (he/ae) - Determination is aer middle name. Feathers is confident, snarky and slightly egotistical. Ae had a taste of divine ichor and they're not afraid to drink from the devil's chalice again. Feathers is exceptionally skilled for a young man at his age. POTS has never stopped him, even if its gotten significantly worse since the beginning of this adventure...
Minish | Minish Cap / Four Swords (they/them) - Minish has never been one for talking. They're reserved and self contained but quite bright. As a system, they've never felt like they've had a place to slot into. Turmoil from their past still lingers as an echo in the back of their mind, and with the freshness of their adventure, even at the young age of 12 they have a lot to think about.
Mirror | alltp / Oox / LA(he/they/ze) - Mirror has had zer fair share of adventures--honestly, he was pretty sure he's seen everything. Once a glowing and legendary adventurer and mage, Mirror is quite happy to retire and settle down with Ralph. In their old age, they are snarky and imbittered. Though the hero's courage still rests deep in his soul, an inexplicable cowardice has taken hold--or perhaps it never left?
Tune | WW/PH (he/him) - Tune is a carefree sailor hailing from Outset Island. He's very intune with the winds, seas and the culture of his home. As such, he is carefree, reckless and a bit of a goofball, and that can often come off a bit childish if you don't know him personally. For someone his age, he's skilled with the sword and oddly nonchalant about the risk of hurting someone.
Rancher | Twilight Princess (he/she) - Though he is but a simple farmhand from Ordon, Rancher is exceptionally brave, often going out of his way to help those in need. Possessing a heart of gold and dogged loyalty to his greatest good, Rancher is the ideal hero. The only thing marring her perfect image is a shadowy form and a regret that boiled his blood.
Wild | Botw/Totk (he/him) - The traveler is a curious fellow. He's quiet, reserved and holds himself with an air of mystery that befuddles and intimidates those around him. He wears his life on his face and scars, yet no one knows much about him. Inside he fears the lack of control in his life. Though the shrine has cleansed him of his self imposed silent burden, he lapses occasionally into that silence. Under all that, he is quite the adventurous young fellow and enjoys a good challenge.
Zonau | 10k hero (he/it) - Zonau is a mysterious fellow. He is quiet, reclusive, and tired. Many years have passed since he had given up on adventuring. To say he is disgruntled to be on another adventure is...quite an understatement, really. In spite of that, he is not a barer of the hero's spirit for nothing. He adventures with a wild spirit, even if its been dulled over the years.

What’s your favorite flavor of zelink? Or do you like them all equally?
Mine has to be Skyward Sword zelink. Their relationship is just *chef’s kiss* PERFECTION
jflaksdfjlksdfjlkajf you want me to CHOOSE?
I wouldn't say i quite like them all equally but it's pretty CLOSE. Honestly i think I obsess about some of them more simply because they're less popular so my itch almost never gets scratched. All zelink is amazing, but my favorite flavors are probably.... rghghg. OOT, ALLTP, TP, HW, and SS.
...
i am SO bad at picking a favorite anything hELP
What i'm currently obsessing about is OOT and HW right now though. I hungerrrrr

Hi
Each of the guy's least favorite enemy. Not the hardest to fight really, but which ones are the 'these ones again?'
This is such a fun ask!! I do want to note that I haven’t played all of the games so I might be guessing lol
Also I will be Projecting haha!
Sky: he hates Tentalus with a passion (ME!!!) could never hit his eye and was absolutely drenched and miserable from the rain at the end, a nonboss enemy would probably be the Dekubabas (they’re annoying)
Four: I’ve only played Minish Cap but he was Appalled at Door Mimics because what do you mean a trap door??!!
Legend: Only played a little bit of Alltp but he hates the traps the most, bubbles, bumpers and flying tiles are The Worst in his mind!
Wild: He’s definitely not the biggest fan of Wizzrobes, thinks they’re super annoying to defeat, stop please please!!!! Doesn’t help that they’re elemental either
Warriors: Fiery Aeralfos, period. (I don’t know if it was my camera angles but I Always had difficulties with these guys!)
Now onto games I haven’t played!
I think Redeads are Horrifying!!!! I think both Time and Wind hate those guys!!! And I think Chilfos look super annoying to fight too and tbh all of Hyrule’s enemies look super hard 😅 but I heard that Fokkas and Wizards are the hardest so I think Hyrule would like to avoid those!

🎭 and 👍 for the Zelda ask game?
🎭 When you play Zelda games, do you imagine being Link yourself, or is Link a separate character to you? Basically, are you Link, or is Link a separate character?
I see Link as his own character , mostly because I enjoy imagining the little twink suffering, but Id rather not yknow,, have my wife turned into a dragon
👍 Favorite Zelda Headcanons?
Ooo, hard one.
I really like ALLTP! Zelda and Link being siblings. Also LOZ1 Link being part fairy, or TOTK Zelda keeping dragon features after the game ends. Also making any character trans lol.
