If this is your first time encountering shorthand then you're in for a treat. What's shorthand? Shorthand is a technique for writing very quickly.
Tumblr media
At its basics you're writing sounds not spelling and combining simple lines to make full words.
Tumblr media
Get it? You're optimizing for speed of writing not density or accuracy. So it's hard to read and takes up more space but you can write down notes fast. How fast? Here's someone writing at 120 words per minute.
Tumblr media
The world record is 250 wpm, but even with a little practice you can get a lot faster than cursive or print.
I've seen a few people ask if Jonathan is writing assuming Dracula can't read his notes. I don't know the answer to that, but I can share exactly that happening with Superman and Lex Luthor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Naturally a reporter like Kent would use shorthand to quickly transcribe notes in the field.
Tumblr media
This is the sort of think Mina is practicing specifically because it's the language used in business. You can read a great article on the expectations of men's and women's writing of the era here:

All Star Superman is fun because it really plays up Clark Kent using clumsiness/bumbling as a cover for Superman Competence. Dude is on some anime girl "Kyaaaah! So embarrassing!" shit but he's a 6'5" midwestern man.

I don't know if they meant to reference this moment in The Boys (probably) but I have to say it was one of the most awful, twisted parallels between Superman and Homelander.
Clark, in the midst of a personal tragedy has just left a potential source of comfort to come to someone else's rescue, and does something meaningful to help her (as opposed to dragging her off the roof because he doesn't have time, or doing it for a photo op). He's listening to people who might be in distress all the time.
Homelander couldn't be bothered to behave with a literal camera and a dozen eyes on him, even as it would benefit him, didn't care much about her at all, also had a personal tragedy but used it to pummel someone else and drove her to do something she couldn't stomach.

I’m on a bit of a Superman kick. Due to My Adventures with Superman (which is cute) and James Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy (which I’m cautiously optimistic about) I just want to read Superman comics.
Unfortunately, all people recommend is All Star Superman (which really IS top tier Superman), so it makes it hard to find the right runs and titles to read.
So, if anyone has any OTHER suggestions, I’m happy to hear them.

Lois Lane being her usual sassy self around a very head-over-heels-in-love smitten Clark Kent.

Superhero Elseworld stories are either:
The most profound superhero story you’ve ever read
Super corny but fun
Something so out of character and edgy it spawns dozens of clickbait youtube videos about “the darkest story in comics”

I love Superman.
Tumblr media
All-Star is the first Superman book that has made me go, “I get it now.” I’ve always loved Superman, but because of adaptations. I’ve been reading the wrong Superman comics, ya’ll.
GIVE ME MORE SUPERMAN COMICS TO READ
