R.I.P. Harlequin ♦️♣️

The original inspiration and voice actress of Harley Quinn has passed away 😔, From the few episodes I saw of TAS and playing through Arkham Asylum, she was good. I didn't grow up with the Animated Series but I am aware of how beloved it was, and without her, non of us would have ever been blessed with Harley.

On the bright side, I'm sure Arlene and Kevin are hugging and chatting together in the clouds.

This has been a hard week for fans. First, wrestling legend Terry Funk died, then the next day, it's announced Bray Wyatt did. I hear Bob Barker of the Price Is Right did today, and then this evening, I learned Arlene Sorkin (original voice actress & inspiration for Harley Quinn) has also died. Sheesh.

Terry Funk was a rough one for me, I knew the name when I saw it had to jog my memory a touch since it'd been a while I mostly remember him from his WCW days, I miss that promotion to it was nice to have two with megastars, the one thing that really caught my eye on is wiki was this

His debut match was against Sputnik Monroe on December 9.

If you don't know who Sputnik is, you should look him up, guy that killed segregation in southern wrestling and then the rest of it in turn.

But for Funk

How you gonna go and make Cactus Jack (Mick Foley) look the least beat up out of the two of anyone, lol. Absolute legend.

Bray Wyatt I didn't really know much about, but he's a fav of a friend of mine so in no universe could he have been anything other than awesome and the response from his fans I don't know confirms that double time.

Don't think there's anything that can be said about Bob Barker that hasn't been said 10,000 times already.

As for Arlene Sorkin, she took a throwaway character from a (incredibly high quality) cartoon and imbued her with so much energy and spirit that, well where's Harley now, everyone knows her and for good reason.

So she's gonna live on for a long long time.

But ya it's been a rough one, and I don't even want to go see if anyone else is on the list since it's a bit too much already. ____

All that aside I hope married life is treating you well.

RIP Arleen Sorkin

Actress, comedian, and screenwriter best known for her role on the soap-opera "Days of our Lives" as well as being the original voice and inspiration for DC character Harley Quinn, passed away today at age 67. For those who do not know, the character of Harley Quinn did not originate in the DC comics, but rather was made to be a henchman of the Joker in a one-off appearance in Batman: The Animated Series. Inspired from Sorkin's character Calliope in a Days of Our Lives episode where in a dream sequence she wears a jester costume and skates around, Sorkin was pulled to voice Harley for one episode, and the character took off. She'd voice Harley for the rest of that cartoons run and return to the occasional videogame/show/movie, lending her voice once again as the inspiration for and original Harley Quinn. Of course, Harley would go on to grow from being more than the Jokers sidekick, becoming part of the Suicide Squad, gaining her own comic series, and headlining her own animated tv show. None of which could have happened without Arlene Sorkin.

The fandom community sends their deepest regrets to her two children, as well as her husband Christopher Lloyd. Rest in peace Arleen Sorkin, and thank you for all the amazing art you created.

Season Four of Harley Quinn has revealed the unfortunate truth: these guys don't actually like comics, and they definitely don't like any characters IN the comics. The only characters that are actually treated with respect, written with depth, and permitted to be competent and fun, are Harley and Ivy. And the versions of Harley and Ivy on this show bare no resemblance to their comic book selves (or, in Harley's case, to the character created by Dini, Timm, and Arlene Sorkin). Which was something I could accept when the show itself was good. It's really, really not anymore. Season Four has been the absolute weakest and I'm highly skeptical that Five will be better.

What a waste of time.

Harley Quinn Animated Show

A very unique take on the Joker. Extra ASSHOLE in him this time. So glad that Harley is free of the fucker...(Thought hilarious that he loves Legally Blond).

Of course Harley herself is as impressive in having a new spin while maintaining the old traits. She’s smarter and less ditzy. Kaley Cuoco was smart not to try and do an impression of Arlene Sorkin.

Honestly my favorite character right now is Ivy though. Maybe because, even as a guy, she treats Harley the way I would want to. Lovingly and gentle, but unlike me, with a touch of crazy. I hope they become the relationship of the show. C’mon anyone who’s grown up on Harely is more than ready for the practical not to mention common element of a lesbian relationship. Just make it sincere. I mean she was the only doctor who could get through to ivy when she was a psychiatrist.

As with Batman and Gordon...Batman is now the sane uber straight man. I wanna see where they go with that. Riddler’s costco card line was outta left field for me so i loved it.

1.12 ‘He Shall, From Time to Time...’

Episode:

• I love this episode for 2 reasons:

1.) Abbey

2.) the big plot twist

• “is it possible I’m taking something called ‘euthanasia?”

• when CJ said “your fish is fine and I need my office” she had a little bit of a twang/accent when she said “office”

• signs this show is outdated: the pagers, the computers, and the fact that even though a story is on the internet, it won’t become a huge thing until it’s in the papers. truly wild to me.

• always had a soft spot for the scene between Jed and Abbey in the residence. actually this me at every Jed and Abbey scene:

• I remember when I first watched this I wasn’t fazed at all when Abbey told Leo that Bartlet had MS. I don’t know if there was some disconnect in my brain, or I didn’t piece together how serious MS could be or how bad it was that he didn’t disclose it during the election or what but I was like “.....huh.” like I still think about that and I’m like “what kinda dumbass was I 2 years ago?”

• Josh and Donna’s banter is so on point in this episode.

“Where do you fall in the line of succession?”

“If the Capitol building blows up during the State of the Union, I’d imagine I’d move up a few slots.”

• directed by Arlene Sanford, the first female director of the show, and the only episode she directed

• how on earth can Hrishi think this is a light episode? A rom com? Not much to analyze?

This is the episode where it’s revealed the President has MS! This sets up the whole MS plotline! There’s romantic stuff between some of the characters but I wouldn’t call it a rom com. And not much to analyze? Analyze Jed and Leo’s relationship, analyze how well Martin Sheen and Stockard Channing play a marriage even though this is only her 2nd episode...

• ...anyway sorry had to get that out

• In the later seasons, they were shooting on location in DC where the President was stepping out of the Marine One and on the side of the helicopter, it said “UnTIED states of America” instead of United. They had to take an hour break to figure out how to fix it.

• Aaron Sorkin gave Bartlet the flu because he

a.) he wanted a scene where Bartlet was in bed watching a soap opera and

b.) wanted to introduce the idea that Abbey is a doctor.

He wanted something more serious than the flu, but something that would keep the show running for 4 years, so he came up with MS.

• nooo the actor who played Roger Tribbey was in CATS the musical 😂

• I feel like I knew in my subconscious that CJ was inspired to call Danny into her office and kiss him after watching Sam and Mallory make out, but I never mentioned it.

• thematically the plots concern how we present ourselves.

• some previous episodes incorporate certain health issues of the President, such refusing to take back pills, having high blood pressure, etc. I’d say this is an example of what Richard Schiff said about Sorkin planting seeds and bringing them up later instead of just randomly incorporating them at last minute, but Sorkin didn’t think of the MS storyline until last minute.
