unexpected musician crossovers from around the internet, part 2:
(some of these are probably not that unexpected but I'm too lazy to dig through rock music lore and find out how they're connected!)
(also if I misidentify someone in these photos, sorry that happens a lot)
Serj Tankian and Lynz Way
Kirk Hammett and Kind Diamond
Brian May and half of Mr. Big
Tim Commerford and Kiss (I'm not entirely sure if that's Tom on the right though)
Okay now I'm certain this one is Tom Morello and Gene Simmons
Mike McCready and Gene Simmons
Jerry Cantrell, Gene Simmons, and not sure who's on the left. Confirmed: everyone sticks out their tongue when they meet Gene
Buckethead and Serj Tankian (this one is a whole mood)
Corey Taylor and Tim Commerford
Arthur Lee, Jimmy Page, and John Frusciante
Serj Tankian and David Bowie
Geddy Lee and three-fifths of Pearl Jam
Thrash. A lot of thrash.
Fred Durst, Ozzy Osbourne, Marilyn Manson, and James Hetfield
Till Lindemann and Jim Root
James Hetfield, Corey Taylor, and Jim Root
Wayne Static and Shavo Odadjian

Love - Gather Round (1969)
Sound-wise this song from Love’s 5th LP seems like a return to the folk-rock of their self-titled debut LP. The lyrics are another story:
Gather ‘round people as fast as you can
I'm gonna tell another story ‘bout an animal called man
Well, he struts all around with his tailor made suits
But his mind is all filled up with bullshit

Tonight’s random record shelf pull…
Love “Love” 1966
Ace LA garage psychedelic folk act lead by Arthur Lee. The album leads off with a cover of Burt Bacharach’s “My Little Red Book”. Interestingly early Pink Floyd were trying to cover this arrangement but weren’t being successful and came up with “Interstellar Overdrive” instead!
The other song I’m going to highlight is “Signed DC” which I first heard through a cover by Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü. It’s a pretty heavy song about drug addiction. 1966 seems pretty early in the game to putting such heavy material on a pop album but here it is.
And of course it seems almost every garage folk babb mc d of the time covered “Hey Joe”
Love would go on to better albums but this was a great start!

I congratulate you upon the general Success Col. Lawrence's [John Laurens] negotiations at Versailles. I should be exceedingly happy to find all our negotiations succeed as well. Yet the gentleman has been calumniated in one of the English papers in a gross manner. His real character has been denied in the face of Europe, and he has been held up in a very inferior one. They have been told that he is deficient in experience and abilities; and that therefore congress supplied this deficiency, by putting him under the patronage of Mr. Payne [Thomas Paine]. From this scandal he has not wanted a vindication. He will need none in our country.
Source — Francis Dana to Arthur Lee, [May 17, 1781]
Laurens was infamous in Europe for his terrible diplomat skills to say the least.
