Have you ever walked over to Ynys Tysilio or Church Island at Porthaethwy / Menai Bridge on Ynys Môn/ Anglesey…?
This is a place I painted as a commission for a rather wonderful customer in London. I painted it from a photo I took on an absolutely blissful walk Steve and I went on in June.
Ynys Tysilio or Llandysilio Island, in the Menai Strait, is attached to Anglesey by a short causeway that is reachable only on foot. The main features of the island are the small church of St Tysilio's Church, constructed in the 15th century, its churchyard, and a grade-II listed war memorial.
Prince Tysilio, later Saint Tysilio, was the son of Brochwel Ysgithrog, a king of Powys. He arrived on Church Island in approximately AD 630, and founded a hermitage there which no longer survives.
The Britannia Bridge, built by Robert Stephenson in 1850 and carrying road and rail traffic now provides a modern backdrop to the island, mixing the current and ancient in this incredible landscape.
It's a popular spot for walkers, both those holidaying on Ynys Môn and those who live there or on mainland Gwynedd. The original watercolour painting is now safely with my customer in London, but a variety of different types and sizes of prints are available, and you can have it printed on all sorts of lovely things (like accessories, apparel, homewares, gift items, etc) at:
and there's currently 30% off everything on Redbubble, to help those buying their Christmas gifts early!
Thanks!

Excavations on Greece’s Mount Ellanio have revealed a new layer of history. A fortified enclosure has been found, apparently used by Mycenean refugees from the Bronze Age collapse and the fall of ancient Greece.
