Hatake Yua and Akimochi Choza

Konoha was a beautiful village. With lush green grass, flowers blooming in every available patch of dirt, and warm sunlight shining down on the villagers. For the first time in her life Yua couldn’t spot a mountain of snow, or brown sludge anywhere she looked.

Living in such a beautiful place, she couldn’t help but go out for a walk every day and enjoy the weather. Even if Sakumo told her it would be easier to stay home. That she wouldn’t have to deal with people staring at her and spreading gossip among each other as long as she stayed at the Hatake compound.

There was just so much for her to see. No one could blame her for wanting to explore. If she was going to live in Konoha, she wanted to see every inch of it. The little shops are tucked away in the dark corners of the alleyways. All of the different plants that grew there, and the animals that ran through the streets.

“Yua-San!” Hearing a familiar voice calling out to her, Yua glanced down the path to see Choza running towards her with a bag of chips in hand and a smile on his face.

“I thought you were supposed to be training right now,” Sakumo had informed her that she was meeting up with his team to train for a bit. Even though all three of them were now Jonin, they still liked to spar once in a while to keep their skills sharp, and Sakumo used it as an excuse to check in on his old students. Ensuring they were still working cohesively as a team and assisting them if they weren’t working together perfectly. “Don’t tell me you’re late, Choza.”

“I forgot,” the Akimichi rubbed the back of his head awkwardly, showing more shame for his forgetfulness than either of his teammates ever would. Perhaps that was why Yua liked him the most. He was always such an honest kid. “I’m just hoping Sensei doesn’t scold me over it.”

“Mmm,” usually Yua would remind Choza of the importance of punctuality and training. Perhaps even lecture him a little for allowing such an important event to slip his mind. Today, however, she was feeling a bit nicer. Perhaps because this moment reminded her so much of those rare moments where Mifune would show his vulnerability to her and ask for her guidance. “If he asks about it, tell him I stopped you on the way over to help me with some groceries.”

Of course, now she would need to pick up some groceries to support Choza’s little lie. An easy task to fullfil, and a great excuse to walk through the market and peek around some of the shops.

Choza stared at her with wide, hopeful eyes. “Do you really mean it?” He asked, excitement dripping in his words. “Yua-san, you’re amazing!” He threw his arms open, preparing to hug her when he remembered her current condition and forced himself to take a step back. “When you have your baby, i’m going to make sure to bring them all of the best potato chips.”

The words caught Yua off guard for a second, but once she had processed them she laughed. A small, controlled laugh that was easy to muffle with her hand, but it was a stronger response than most people could get out of her. “I’ll keep you to that,” she promised, closing her eyes and giving him a soft smile. “Now get going. Sakumo is a patient man, but if you keep him waiting too long he will come looking for you.”

As if suddenly realizing where he was supposed to be, Choza rushed down the street with a ‘thank you’ and a slight curse when he just about ran into someone else along the way.

“Shinobi,” she muttered fondly, careful to keep her words low enough so that unwanted ears didn’t hear her. “What a strange bunch.”

No doubt they would say the same about her, though. With her ideals of honor and friendship, she was bound to raise a few eyebrows. She didn’t mind feeling a little out of place though. Where she was, surrounded by strange customs and new faces, was right where she belonged.

“Come on,” she whispered, placing a hand over her belly as if it would connect her to her child so that they could hear her words. “I think we deserve a treat before groceries.”

And then they stay friends. The only thing that's a little bit weird is Mia and Clancy don't really get along when they see each other (understandable, she did kill his friends). Other than that, everyone's great.

"I see." Kumo nodded, his gaze falling to the ground. Love had always been quite a concept to him; he could never understand it, yet he was constantly feeling it. Yua had always seemed happy with Sakumo. Her smile had always been bright. Kakashi had been the same. The family had seemed so happy until tragedy struck, when Yua's smile had turned sad and Kakashi's had ceased altogether. "He'll come around."

"One day," She agreed, a fond smile tugging at her lips. "When the world has settled a bit and he doesn't feel so guilty for the things he could not control."

Maybe by that time she would be able to take him to her home. Introduce him to the land he should have been raised in. One where he might have had a better life.

"Until that day he has friends like you," she continued. "I may not be able to protect him myself any longer, but I know he has people who care about him to come home to. Including his honorary big brother." A playful wink to follow her words.
