TV REVIEW: THE MIDWICH CUCKOOS (2022), some spoilers
TV REVIEW: THE MIDWICH CUCKOOS (2022), some spoilers
Figure 1 – Midwich Cuckoos First Edition (British) Before I begin, let me congratulate our R. Graeme Cameron, who has won the Canadian Aurora Award for Fan Writing! Well done, Graeme! Back in the late 1950s, when I was a wee lad, I read everything in the library that was even vaguely science-fictional. That’s the reason I read Moonraker, by Ian Fleming, years before anyone ever heard of James…

NEW PROPAGANDA AND MEDIA UNDER CUT: ALL POLLS HERE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

"Do you ever think Laura Linney reads her playbill bio and cries? Does she dream of the day when she too will hold a Tony Award aloft in triumph, or has she resigned herself to being one of four actresses with the biggest fail rate and will one day hold the record outright? (Given that Estelle Parsons is in her nineties, Dana Ivey is in her eighties, and Jan Maxwell, my beloved, is dead?) Anyway, the point of this isn't to rub salt in the wound. Love you, Laura Linney."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

"It's too mean to title this poll Biggest Tony Winner vs. Biggest Tony Loser but it's pretty damn accurate, and given the overwhelming whiteness of award shows overall, it's damn satisfying that the Black woman is the one with a record-breaking Tonys on her shelf and the white blonde woman is not (no matter how talented she is). Audra McDonald, my beloved, you're going to sweep this entire tournament."

L'heure Rouge - Vamp! Dazai x gn! Reader
Tumblr media
Chapter 1
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><It was night time. The satellites were brightly glowing over the glowing Yokohama city. You couldn't sleep well due to the fact that you were sleeping that much during the day, so you decided that it was a good idea to walk. Perhaps walking could clear your thoughts.
You left your house after getting ready to go out, simply putting on a jacket, socks, and pants. While your feet took you further and further away from your house, you recalled an interesting spot to go to.
Yokohama Dreamland Amusement Park. Yokohama Dreamland was an amusement park that operated in Totsuka, Yokohama, Japan from 1964 to 2002. Unlike its Nara sibling, which lies abandoned and deteriorating. There had been recent conspiracy theories that claimed to see red eyed humans in the dark in Yokohama Dreamland. Humans that had super strength, super speed, and such their prey dry. Rumour has it that vampires thrive in Yokohama Dreamland at night.
You obviously didn't believe in all of those childish stories. Those conspiracy theories were told to scare children. In reality of it all, maybe a gangster group used Yokohama Dreamland as their base, but even that was barely plausible. Totsuka Yokohama was a fairly safe area. It wasn't common that any crime would occur. Even death accidents were fairly rare. So since to one has any evidence on their claims, vampires must not be real, right?
Seconds became minutes then became an hour. You finally arrived at your destination.
(No way in hell imma describe the damn place. I'll just show you some images.)
Tumblr media
(There we go. Now you have a visual. Now imagine that the time in the picture is nighttime. You got that??? Oki good! My apologies for interrupting. Please continue.)
You pushed the gate open and took a step inside the amusement park.
Time skippppp
"Boo." Your heart dropped. Something is here? You whipped your head around frantically to see a tall brunette standing with a smirk.  <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><
Author-kun: Ahhhhhh! I don’t know if I can finish this! Ah. If you guys have any requests, feel free to ask! Thank you so much for reading the first chapter!

I'm actually genuinely curious to know and I don't mean to come off as rude or anything, sorry if I do, but could you explain how Wednesday is a mama's girl? (I saw her more as a daddy's girl than mama's girl.)
Hi! Thank you for the ask! Don’t worry, I don’t find this rude at all!
(WARNING: RANT AHEAD! TLDR AT THE BOTTOM!!)
Honestly, Wednesday being a Mama’s girl isn’t actually my wording, but rather taken from a post I saw quite a few hours before posting, so I really don’t have much of a chance at finding it again lol. Especially since I just woke up 😅
But, anyway! The post I’m referring to both now, and in my other post, actually gets me a little upset (fine… a lot upset, really). I can’t remember exactly but I believe it had pictures of Wednesday cuddling and hugging Morticia from the 1964 sitcom and the caption said (again from what I remember, so not an exact quote) “Wednesday has always been a Mama’s girl, no matter what Burton tries to do.” In reference to the Netflix series, where Wednesday is often antagonistic to her mother and her family, and totally touch-averse.
Now, remembering my post earlier, you might be able to see why it upset me so much. I’m well aware that it probably wasn’t Mr. Burton’s exact goal to have Wednesday be autistic-coded in the Netflix series, but it doesn’t change the fact that she almost 100% is (along with Enid Sinclair being autistic & ADHD-coded). A lot of Wednesday’s behaviors and traits shown through the show are commonly seen in autistic people. Therefore, me and a lot of other autistic people along with some of the Neurodivergent community have been able to see themselves, and connect deeply with this “new version” of the character.
But, unfortunately at the same time, another large part of the fandom for the show and The Addams Family in general, have taken to criticizing this change, claiming that this version is horribly unfaithful to the source material, not recognizing that the Addams Family lore has been changed quite a lot already in EVERY ADAPTATION SINCE THE ORIGINAL COMIC BY CHARLES ADDAMS!!!! And what’s most infuriating to me is that most of these people completely disregard the ways that Wednesday shows her affection to her family in the show. Because it’s totally disrespectful to the point of the Addams Family (kinda like how the animated movies made Morticia’s love for her children conditional).
The point of the Addams Family is to break the typical image of what society deems “normal” and so to try and expect every adaptation of it to be perfectly loyal to the original source material, it kinda defeats the point, doesn’t it? The Netflix series is a modern adaptation that shows this kooky and spooky little family defying the social norms of today, just like the sitcom did back in the 60s and how the 90s movies did the same for their time. Wednesday now reflects Gen Z’s sarcastic and oftentimes dark view of the current world in the most brutally honest way possible, not holding back or coloring over it like most of my generation is expected to do.
And the fact that people refuse to see that? It’s heartbreaking because they’re missing out on a damn good, funny and entertaining adaptation of this classic American comedy series. That’s the problem with today’s chronically online society, everybody watches things looking for something to criticize, LOOKING FOR FLAWS IN EVERYTHING!!!
What happened to watching things, JUST TO WATCH THEM?!? When did enjoying media stop being about having fun and instead turn into this? This, hypercritical behavior of everything that doesn’t fit this impossible standard of perfection?
Anyway! Sorry, I went on a tangent lol!
Tldr: Wednesday being a Mama’s girl isn’t my terminology, but rather from a post here on Tumblr that I can’t find. People have horrible media literacy these days and look at everything two dimensionally. Wednesday from the Netflix series is actually the same Wednesday she’s always been, just adapted for the modern day.

Report details ‘staggering’ church sex abuse in Maryland
More than 150 Catholic priests and others associated with the Archdiocese of Baltimore sexually abused over 600 children and often escaped accountability, according to a long-awaited state report released Wednesday that revealed the scope of abuse spanning 80 years and accused church leaders of decades of coverups.
The report paints a damning picture of the archdiocese, which is the oldest Roman Catholic diocese in the country and spans much of Maryland. Some parishes, schools and congregations had more than one abuser at the same time — including St. Mark Parish in Catonsville, which had 11 abusers living and working there between 1964 and 2004. One deacon admitted to molesting over 100 children. Another priest was allowed to feign hepatitis treatment and make other excuses to avoid facing abuse allegations.

Not the biggest news site around, but the big ones haven't picked it up yet. There's something so absurd about the state trying to throw its weight around trying to stop a damn water ride from getting an update.
I hate siding with Disney but even if you don't like the idea of a re-theme or think it shouldn't be Princess and the Frog, you can't just decide how a private entity can fucking decorate for God's sake.
Submitted by @jaycethepancake
Seein lots of chatter about splash mountain getting a makeover, and then we've got this and mousetrap news covering it.
Not too keen on princess and the frog, didn't do it for me, not every Disney movie does wasn't big on Frozen either, love Tangled. Honestly though I'm surprised they didn't do this sooner given the property it's themed after is Song of the South.
That was one I loved as a kid, till someone got really mad and called me racist for a whole bunch of things that hadn't even once crossed my mind.
I really like the mousetrap version of events.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I will be looking into that drinking age thing shortly, but I imagine it's retaliation from Disney from the shit that was being pulled last year, amazing a state government and a multinational media conglomerate both acting like children.
All that said the state does have a point about historical significance, not thinking it's going to be enough to sway a judge, but I'm not any kind of legal expert, think CA would have a better chance arguing against any upgrades to Small World at Disneyland since that one came directly from the 1964 Worlds Fair, had to remove the sponsored by Pepsi stuff before but that's reasonable when you've got the contract with Coke.
Carousel of Progress maybe, but that's been changed from 64, Country Bear Jamboree on the other hand, not a 64 Worlds Fair attraction but I'd argue cultural significance .
Interesting times we get to see a dick measuring contest between the state shaped like one and one of the biggest companies in the world.
