Thinking today about how American Horror Story unironically made one of the funniest fictional characters ever, and didn't even mean to.
Like, somewhere along the line Ryan Murphy was like "I wanna adapt the H.H. Holmes story" and he was in his prime so they just. Let it happen. "I want Evan Peters to run the hotel" sure, okay "he's a ghost" he's played a ghost before, that's great, "But from the 1920's" cool. Sweet. "He has no concept of modern day society. Zero." Great well- "He's IN LOVE with... LADY GAGA... who is also a VAMPIRE... But she also fucking HATES him." Okay so- "He's a SERIAL KILLER but also a total spineless DWEEB" Pause. Okay wait. Hold on.
Like, Idk how they let this guy just,,, happen. James Patrick March is quite literally such a stupid, weird concept but Ryan Murphy was making bank so they just let it go and now there's a whole season of Evan Peters with a silly mustache and a silly accent having no idea what Google is or who Colonel Sanders is, but damn if Lady Gaga isn't hot. I think it just astounds me how much Ryan Murphy has gotten away with, and somehow he's still going.

My Little Spawn Pt.2 (Dadstarion X Child!Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: Astarion was finally free from Cazador after being kidnapped by a mindflayer but he was stuck with one annoying task, you.
Disclaimer: I do not own Baldur's Gate 3 or any of its characters.
Word Count: 1.4k
Warnings: Use of (Y/N), Cazador, language, violence, spoilers for those who haven't gone far in the game....Uhhh...I think that is all.
You sat by the river bank, looking at the fishes as everyone was once again getting ready to go back on the road. Hearing footsteps you look seeing Astarion crotch near you. “Here, drink up before anyone sees us.” He hands you a small goblet with blood.  You grab onto the silver cup and drink it all in one gulp. Astarion looks around making sure no one was watching as he wipes your mouth with his sleeve “There now we are both less cranky.” He smirks, washing the cup right away. “I feel much better now” You look at him savoring the taste of the bitter blood. “Now I promise I won’t run off!” You grin showing your sharp fangs. “Easy on the smile now, I can see your little pathetic fangs.” He boops your nose before walking back to his tent. Walking around the camp you collected some flowers near the riverbank before looking around seeing everyone has left besides Karlach. “Hey! Where did everyone else go?” You pouted walking to her. The tall woman smiles looking down at you, “It’s just the both of us, little soldier. We think it’s best if one of us stays at the camp with you. It’s dangerous out there.” She chuckles seeing you cross your arms. “But we can take this opportunity to get to know each other.” She sits down on the ground. “Hmmm…”You look at her, was she part of the game as well? You did promise Astarion you would win this game for them. “Okay!” Sitting down next to her, you look up at her “Tell me about you! I wanna know why you have a broken horn” You pointed. “That will be a tough one…let me see if I can give you the kid friendly version.”
“Why in the hell did you accept this charity work when our goal is to get this thing out of our heads?!” Astarion frowns after Tav was done talking to Zevlor. “Hey, Halsin can be our ticket to healing us after seeing what Nettie was going to make us do. We need to rescue him.” Tav looks at Astarion, “You are welcome to switch places with Karlach and look after (Y/N)” They crossed their arms. Astarion stops whining, “ On second thought I rather do this than babysit a child.” He mutters. “You know, you two seem to know each other.” Gale began to poke. Astarion rolls his eyes “Stay out of my business will you wizard? The child must have seen me somewhere in Baldur’s Gate and felt much safer with a familiar face. “ The elf shrugs and walks around the grove seeing what he can take. Shadowheart walks around as well. “It’s going to be harder to travel with a child, the dangers we will face.” She comments “We can’t leave them either since they also have the tadpole. Poor child” She hissed something glows on her hand hurting her. Astarion ignores her, thinking back how your life is. It’s already over since Cazador made you a spawn. “Yeah…poor kid” He mutters and walks further into the Grove.
You lay on the ground in Astarions tent, after hearing Karlachs story, you look at the sky admiring it. You wonder why didn’t papa let you step outside the big palace. He would always warn you to stay away from the windows and never step foot out of the palace. The sky was beautiful, you want to keep admiring it after you go back home. Maybe if you convince him, he’ll let you at least see it outside of the window. “Papa…Mama…” You whisper thinking back to them. Rubbing your eyes, you were met with Astarion looking down at you. “Aww did you miss me little creature?” He smirks laying down next to you. “I miss papa” Sitting up you play with his hair. “Of course papa…hmm (Y/N) what did you mean about mad like papa?” He leans on his side looking at you. You look down “I remember papa getting mad at mama…” You whisper the memory fresh in your mind. “Mama…and do you know what Cazador was mad at?” He once again began to play with your hair, a habit he’s been getting. “I couldn’t hear…they were talking very lowly but I saw papa grab mama’s neck and then he took a bite on it. I wanted to check on mama but papa said she was going to sleep and took me home with him in the big castle.” You retold the story. Astarion only watches you retold it, he hums thinking. Must have killed her in front of her and took in the child before turning them into a spawn. “ I see, I bet you miss your mother.” He looked at the sky as it was setting down. “I do but papa says she was a terrible mother…I don’t know why but I don’t want papa to get mad at me?” You play with the dirt only for Astarion to stop you. “Careful you’ll get dirty.” He sighs before looking at you. “How are you? Blood wise little spawn.” He dugs into his bag to pull out another small vial of blood. “Gimmie!” You try to reach for it only for him to pull back. “Drink a little, this should last you till the morning.” He gently tips the vial on your mouth giving half.
The next day, Astarion sighs sitting on the ground watching you chase a butterfly as he was replaced, Karlach taking his spot. You giggle chasing the small insect. “Astarion! When will I be able to see papa?” You walk over to the pale elf. “I don’t know.” He groans “This the 5th time you’ve asked me, don’t ask me again, got it?” He fixes your shirt before seeing a hole. “Where did you get this from?” He tuts. You look down shrugging. “Children I swear.” He mutters “ I’ll patch it up tonight.” He looks at his small kit. You grinned, “Thank you!” You wrapped your little arms around his neck. He tense up, before slowly rubbing your back, “Yeah yeah, now go back to chasing this pointless butterfly.” He gently shoves you away as you run off to chase the poor butterfly. How can a little spawn like yourself make him feel different?
   Night came rolling, You were asleep on your side of the tent. Astarion looks around and sees everyone asleep. He slowly got up and walked over to the Tav leaning in before seeing them awake. “Shit…” He mutters and backs up. (The rest is history for us Astarion Fans)
You woke up to the sound of chatter. Sitting up, you noticed everyone around Astarion. Getting up, your little legs walk over clinging on to his pant leg. “ And is (Y/N) a vampire Spawn as well?” Tav looks down at you. Astarion sighs “Yes, Cazador, my old master also made them into a spawn.” He looks down at you. Hearing the name Cazador, you grin “He’s my papa!” You bounce happily. “But she’s so young” Gale looks down at you, “Will she be needing blood as well? Right away, We don’t bite out of nowhere okay?”
Astarion frowns seeing Gale already showing you manners on being a spawn. “Yeah yeah, we bite before asking, don’t we (Y/N)?” He pulls you closer to him and away from Gale. You only nodded still clinging on to his pants. “ Has she taken blood yet?” Karlach looks over to you smiling “For a little spawn they are rather adorable.” She chuckles as you get distracted chasing once again a butterfly. “Why don’t they have red eyes? Where did Cazador bite them?” Astarion goes to speak but stops as they were right. “I…I don’t know…” He looks at you before walking over  “ Come here.” He gently stops you and looks at your (E/C) eyes before looking down at your neck seeing nothing. “(Y/N) I need you to tell me the truth, where did he bite?” He looks at you sternly. You only tilt your head “Bite…he only bit mama…” Upon hearing you, his eyes widened and stood up, backing a bit. “What is it?” Tav walks over. “They are a Daywalker. Dhampire’s….You…they…Cazador…” He whispers trying to make this all sense. “When has Cazador been…involved with a human…” He whispers looking at you. “Especially to have you…” He looks down at you as you stare back at him, only one thing crossing across his mind.
What did he get himself into
~~~~~~~~~~
Important Author's Note: Thank you so much, it seems all of you are loving this, please do be patient. This story will start off slow but all the action and more secrets will be out in the upcoming chapters. I also have another idea, what about a fic where Astarion was married to the reader before he was killed and now that 200 years have passed he sees her again. Would you guys like that? I have another Astarion Fic as well in my blog called Hunted Past so please do check that out. Thank you everyone! Stay safe and stay hydrated!
ATTENTION TROLLS FANDOM!!
This is very important. Mostly to me but maybe you guys have been wondering this too idk but anyways:
How does troll reproduction work exactly?
Cuz I'm genuinely curious. I dont think anyone on the series production team has said anything and so far I've seen absolutely no one touch on this subject but as someone who's always had an interest in the habits of creatures (both fictional or otherwise), I kinda sorta maybe NEED to know this otherwise I'll never be able to sleep peacefully again
Full disclaimer that I'm specifically talking about the whole egg situation, I am NOT ASKING HOW THEY GET IT ON IF I WANTED THAT ANSWER I'D GO TO DEVIANT ART OR TWITTER OR WHATEVER LAWLESS PLATFORM GOD STEERS CLEAR OF. This discussion shall remain STRICTLY educational, thank you very much
But anywho. Let's dive in
So trolls come from eggs. This is basic knowledge. First instance of this phenomenon (as far as I know, I've only seen the movies) is from World Tour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Egg pops out of Guy Diamond's hair, egg hatches and BOOM, (literal) baby. Now I understand that this whole sequence was probably just a gag and a way for DreamWorks to implement another (merchandisable) addition to the cast HOWEVER this sequence also raises a few questions
First off, as far as I know Guy Diamond has no partner (again: I haven't watched any of the spinoff shows). Either that or maybe the other troll was a sorta one-night-stand/no-longer-in-his-life kinda situation? Which is great either way cuz its shown he obviously cares for his son and we at Tumblr appreciate a loving single father no matter the circumstances, but if my former theory is correct than that would imply that trolls are capable of reproducing asexually. Like onions.
Now if that hypothesis is, as they call it, "cap" then that would mean that some sorta hanky panky has to go down before an egg comes into question. And if that's the case, does this mean that male trolls are traditionally the ones who carry the eggs?
But that can't be right, can it? Afterall, World Tour gave us yet ANOTHER egg scene later on in the movie
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In Cooper's flashback, we clearly see Queen Essence being the one carrying the eggs meanwhile King Quincy is eggless. Now, as far as i see it, this could be explained either one of four ways:
1) Quincy was the one who actually produced the eggs and Essence is merely holding them for her husband (since her hair seems more fitting to be a makeshift nest compared to Quincy's)
2) Female trolls are the ones who produce the eggs. Guy Diamond is just a trans icon
3) Troll reproduction differs from genre to genre
4) There is a... *sighs* a/b/o type of dynamic among troll kind where certain trolls are capable of giving birth/siring children depending on a secondary gender
In regards to theory #3, this could also explain why Guy Diamond seems to reproduce and hatch an egg in such a short amount of time (like 5 seconds I'm pretty sure) as opposed to Queen Essence/King Quincy who's eggs presumably went a while longer before actually hatching.
Actually, speaking off eggs, are trolls the only species in their world that reproduce that way?
Because now that Band Together has officially been released, we now know for certain that it's possible for different species to crossbreed. Biggest example? Resident DILF Bruce and his giant muppet wife
Tumblr media
(Credit to @captainunderkrupp )
When I saw these two... I swear...
And these two already have a shit ton of kids okay so like... either Brandi was the one giving birth or trollsona Daveed Digs was over here pumpin out eggs, which I mean-
Tumblr media
DO YOU SEE HOW BIG THESE THINGS ARE COMPARED TO BRANCH AND POPPY?? Believe me I am PRAYING that Bruce gave himself some serious maternity/paternity leave because my guy is honestly a trooper
But yeah any thoughts? :))
It's interesting how many people are bothered by the banner on this blog. It's pretty tame. This idea that Mike and Will aren't even allowed to kiss when they were younger because it's inappropriate is crazy to me when we saw Mike and El making out at that same age and people weren't scandalized by watching that. So clearly their issue is that it's 2 boys and they are uncomfortable with adults knowing they want to kiss. I saw someone claim that it wasn't homophobia but they were bothered by the fact that the disclaimer says they will be aged up in polls but then used something from S3 in the banner. But that's because on the show they have mostly been young kids so if you're making a banner there aren't pictures of them randomly as adults lol. It's not a big deal at all. People don't even think through why they are mad. They just have a trigger response to things they don't like and go off about it. It's like they are throwing darts and hoping one of the reasons they've come up with will stick and actually be a legit issue. But I have yet to see an actually criticism of this blog that was fair. All of it is coming from young people scandalized by sex and freaking out over the details and kinks people came up with. They equate "kink" with something sinister and predatory. I sincerely hope that they get educated better at some point because their attitude is a big problem. When the fandom is more active there is going to be a lot more people talking like this. And if there is a sex scene that is all anyone is going to be discussing. If it's bothering them now, they won't be able to deal with it later.
Yeah I was genuinely surprised people were/are upset about that too! I understand not liking the blog as a whole, but to single out the banner as some kind of gotcha is def strange to me. Even some people who like this blog are bothered by it. But it didn't even cross my mind once that the banner would potentially be something folks would have any opinions about at all, negative or positive lol.
Having a S3 banner isn't saying, "Go think of them as their S3 selves!" (And it isn't saying the opposite either- no one can control what others think about). The banner isn't saying anything at all. It's just a banner. Like, there's no sinister or ulterior motive behind it. It was just chosen because it looks cool and because, like you said, we don't have any pictures of them randomly as adults. It's strange to me that people think the banner is "attaching a specific image" to Byler.
But they don't think that about anyone else's profiles. Are people with S1 Byler profile pictures only talking about S1 Byler on their accounts, even when they analyze darker themes? Of course not. So I do think people are grasping at straws and partially motivated by purity culture and homophobia, even if it's internalized homophobia.
And the disclaimer says Byler is aged-up in all the sex-related polls not just to clarify the purpose of the blog as a whole and so people don't have to keep adding "for aged-up Byler" to their submissions, but also for literal reasons. Unless you believe Byler secretly boned off screen already or something, when Byler has sex, whether in the show or post-canon, they will be aged up to at least Stancy's age.
(Some of the anons haven't been specifically related to having sex but to sexuality in general, and people are usually discussing things like hosegate where obviously they aren't aged up. But the actual sex specific questions are clearly talking about Byler in S5 and beyond).
Since the show is going in a more mature direction, it makes sense to talk about sex and sexuality as it relates to Byler. As you put it, "I sincerely hope that they get educated better at some point because their attitude is a big problem. When the fandom is more active there is going to be a lot more people talking like this. And if there is a sex scene that is all anyone is going to be discussing. If it's bothering them now, they won't be able to deal with it later." Very true.
This is another pandemic post and this one I am tagging and asking for reblogs, to try to find two specific things, so I will adapt an old trend from the website formerly known as Twitter and add a piece of REBLOG BAIT at the end of it.
With the live show approaching in two weeks, I wish there was a compilation of travel safety and risk reduction resources for people going to the show, since up-to-date versions of those things are not easy to find because public health authorities' response to the pandemic has, as I think we all know by now, been a trashfire.
As anyone who has worked on a group project ever in their life can attest, even a one-page info sheet (much less my moonshot version which is a spreadsheet with pages for travel and masking in cosplay and so forth) has far more moving parts than anticipated. (Who's proofreading? Who's writing a "not affiliated with critrole the company" disclaimer that is legal and ethical? If there's only one person with the background for a given technical piece of it then who's checking their work?)
I think that since it is a Safety Thing, it would be better not to create a sheet than to do it badly. But the Critical Role fandom is hugelarge, and I think if enough people reblog this it might find enough engineers, writers, immunocompromised people who have had to learn everything about how respirators work, scicomm people, parents of high-risk kids, philosophy guys, bioethics wonks, &c with 1-3 hours free this week.
Because the fandom IS so immense and the pandemic is surging again, I think it's likely someone somewhere is already doing something like this! I was really hoping someone would, but if so, I haven't found it yet. I don't want to reduplicate efforts, so the other reason I'm asking for reblogs is in the hope that if I can't find it, it will find this.
Q: You have clearly thought through everything that could go wrong with this, so why do it?
A: I think if enough people can work on an info sheet to make a safe and informative one, and a few hundred people see that info sheet, then a few dozen people will end up with resources to protect themselves and their loved ones, and I think that matters.
I think watching the live show approach has been an isolating time for people in the fandom who are medically vulnerable and whose lives have been touched by pandemic death, and I think it would do a lot of us good to be able to talk about it and try to do something to help reduce the rate of illness. While helping with physical safety generally > helping with social and psychological safety, to anyone whose first retort is "is this about emooootions," yes lmao it is absolutely is.
Q: From a bioethics standpoint, doesn't creating a resource to help people manage their individual risk (and that to their immediate social circle) do damage in and of itself by affirming the idea that a public health disaster can be solved on an individual level?
A: Hypothetical question asker, it's like I literally wrote your question myself! Anyway idk the answer to this but I think talking about whether to do something to help is a step up from not talking about it at all.
Quick Thoughts on the first two episodes of X-Men '97
Quick disclaimer: I wasn't a fan of the original series from the nineties. I watched all five seasons in preparation for this show and for reasons I can't explain, it just never grabbed me. When I hear people talk about how it's one of the best X-Men shows and even one of the best superhero animated shows out there, on top of Batman: The Animated Series or Spectacular Spider-Man, I was...not as into it as others were. But I was willing to keep an open mind about the revival. I like the X-Men as much as your average Marvel fan who's favorite superhero is Spider-Man could. Plus, my perspective offers a good question: Does this show offer anything of value if you're not a fan of the original series? And the answer is...Yeah, it absolutely frickin' does.
THIS was more along the lines of the show I was expecting when people talked about how great it is. A lot of what makes X-Men special is on top form here. The themes of prejudice, that anyone perceived as "other" can relate to, is on top display as the first villains we face in these two episodes are your average mutant hating humans who believe that humanity has it hard enough already without these mutants "whining" about their problems. Speaking of, the "crybabies" that humans hate share about how all they want is acceptance and the way they fear about the world judging them, their children, and the people they love. This is the bread and butter of every great X-Men story that helps makes it appealing to almost everyone. Yeah, it's cool to see mutants blow shit up as they fight aliens and robots and whatever, but if you claim the X-Men are now "too woke" because they made Morph non-binary, you haven't been paying close attention to what REALLY makes X-Men strong.
As for seeing these mutants blow shit up, you still get that in spades as the action in this show is TOP NOTCH. You got some goofy nonsense like Gambit powering up Wolverine's claws or Beast controlling a Sentinel from the inside, but also some really cool uses of everyone's powers and seeing them work as a team. I knew that the show was doing something right when they made CYCLOPS look cool. That is a very hard feat to accomplish as the first thought that comes to mind with any writer is that all Cyclops can do is shoot a laser beam. Yeah, that's what he does here too, but he's also punching and kicking people like a professional MMA fighter, using his blasts to amplify his attacks rather than being his ONLY attack. You love to see it and makes ME excited for what other kickass action we'll get in the future, because the animation is ALSO really good. It's stilted and choppy during scenes of dialogue, but it's dialogue. You don't NEED to have outstanding animation when all characters are doing is talking. The good stuff is saved for the fight scenes or for moments that just need to look a LOT more epic than they need to, and I appreciate that decision.
Another thing that's stronger is the "Soap Opera" aspect that I've heard people talk about with the original series. So many people claimed it was a soap opera for kids and...I'm going to be honest, I got that better with Gargoyles if anything else, but I feel like that aspect of the show is handled much better here. It's definitely NOT for kids, at least not for seven year olds like in the nineties. It's definitely more for OLDER kids as the series kept in mind that the target audience was going to be the adults who grew up watching this series instead of the new generation, and I feel like they're going to get a lot more than they wanted for a new series. You have Scott and Jean having a baby, Magneto leading the team, a certain person LEAVING the team, and a mind-shattering twist that leaves you wondering what could possibly come next. This show, at its best, leaves you with CHILLS during these big, dramatic moments of characters sharing their heart and souls with another or when something Earth-shattering is happening. Magneto's speech to the UN and a new anti-mutant villain was the most engaged I've been with a Marvel property since Across the Spider-Verse, holding my attention for every second to the point where I barely remembered to breath. When it was all over, I genuinely wanted there to be more.
So this revival is definitely good for someone like me who wasn't into the original series...but what about those who WERE fans? Honestly, I'm not sure how they'll feel. Almost everything seems like an improvement, but it's definitely NOT the same as the original. The animation's crisper and the writing lacks the nineties' camp for a more modern feel. It takes place almost a year after Charles Xaiver's "death," but the characters speak in a way that lacks that certain...way, you know? I like it, but will fans of the original accept it?
Plus, there are some new things that I'm not sure if X-Men fans in general are going to love. There's this weird...thing between Rogue and Magneto that feels icky and I REALLY hope they don't go there. And, without spoilers, there's this...THING that happens to Storm and it BETTER NOT be permanent. It makes sense for the story and you FEEL the weight of the drama that this moment brings, but she is too cool of a character that has this done to her. Couldn't they have done this to Morph instead? They were already screwed over in the original series, they can be screwed over again!
Overall, I'd say that X-Men '97, from these two episodes, is a good restart for this show. It brings back what fans of the original loved and improves upon it to make it more the show they idolized as kids. At least, that's my takeaway. I'm just glad to have some good X-Men content again outside of comics.
Language learning with media tips and recs for Mandarin
Once you've started to approach conversational level (or before then if you can't wait) a great way to build familiarity is watching shows in the language you are learning. But if you are still fairly new to the language there can still be a big gaps here, so I am sharing what's worked for me.
General tips
If you haven't already, I highly recommend adding two plugins to your browser: a speed controller and a dual subtitle plugin.
A speed controller is great for slowing it down when they are speaking too fast to process.
And while it's not great (for language learning purposes) to rely on native language subtitles, it's one way to enjoy watching a target language show and not have to engage so much of your brain (work and life can be draining) while still getting some benefit via exposure to culture, the sounds and (with a dual sub plugin) the words.
I use Chrome (yuck, I know) and the plugins DualSub and Video Speed Controller . There may be better ones out there, but I enjoy these. Dual Sub also has a " Chinese learning" option, which adds the pinyin as well, but I find it's not super reliable, not sure what I am doing wrong.
Also, side note: use Netflix in the browser for dual sub, if they have the subtitles you want.
Mandarin targeted tips
Watching shows produced in your target language is great practice but it can be hard to find sometimes, or expensive. The two best free options are YouTube and Viki, which come with their own pros and cons.
Youtube
Pros
If you search any show you want with "English subtitles" you are likely to find it
Accessible to anyone, I don't think anyone is unfamiliar with youtube
Cons
Grainy crunchy quality as expected
Subtitles are often in the video instead of as a subtitle file, so they are often also poor quality
You may or may not find a video with Chinese (simplified or traditional) subs as well
Rakuten Viki
Pros
Extensive collection of shows in mandarin
Chat function
Cons
Don't always have Chinese subtitles
With free version, ad breaks can sometimes be a lot
Chat function
Honestly I like the Viki chat, which is timed comments that you can toggle on or off, but as with any chat functionality, the comments vary wildly and can get a little unhinged (whether that's a pro or con is in the eye of the beholder).
Show Recs
Ok now the real reason for this post: an excuse to gush about my favorite shows lol.
The Untamed
Probably needs no introduction, but as my first cdrama it will always hold a special space in my heart.
Sales pitch: a very fun cast of characters with acting I really enjoyed (but sometimes on the cheesy side) and motivations I could understand, even if I disagreed with them. I don't think I truly hate any character in this show, even the annoying ones I enjoy mocking at least.
Vibes: epic historical fantasy drama with humor and angst and tragedy
Disclaimers: not everyone enjoys the acting as much as I did, many people dislike the deviations from the source material (including the censorship), regular drama pitfalls (pacing, cheesiness, etc)
Where to watch: Available on US Netflix or on Viki (although low quality unless you have a paid subscription)
My Uncanny Destiny
My favorite drama to date.
Sales pitch: an extremely funny satirical take on cdrama tropes, I laughed through pretty much all of it. Has very progressive themes for the setting and handles them well (but humorously). The main couple's dynamic was fantastic.
Vibes: comedic historical drama with depth
Disclaimers: I personally think it is a lot funnier if you are at least passingly familiar with cdrama tropes as the premise of the show relies on flipping these (esp gendered ones), a fair amount of potty/gross out humor (but not all of it), the writing does drop off a little towards the end
Where to watch: viki
God Troubles Me
For the animation fans
Sales pitch: an animated show that is also really great for learning more about modern Chinese culture, I love the light hearted humor and ridiculous characters in this. While there is a loose overarching plot dealing with gods and monsters, it's actually very much a slice of life show
Vibes: cozy fun comedy
Disclaimers: while it's a great way to learn about Chinese culture, that can also be one of the biggest hurdles to engaging with it, especially if you are not very knowledgeable yet (like me!). Because it assumes the audience is already familiar, some jokes/details/plots may be confusing.
Where to watch: US Netflix.
people are having a lot of interpretations on the line jk used in his apple music interview my views were different but messed not clear when he said I will never cross the lines with armys which a singer or artist should maintain everyone taken it as he is saying he will not use them for his benefit, sexual desires, hook up nd all crap they assumed but I don't think he want to say that can u please explain ur point of view not share it please.
hi anon, i hope you can forgive that i'm not sure how to answer this without sharing it? maybe i was supposed to post about it unprompted but to be perfectly honest, the quote in question didn't stick out to me at all before this.
i personally haven't seen any discourse over it either and am confused as to why there would be any as it seems within the lines of the normal boundary setting most of the members have done at some point or another to me.
but to be fair to you and this ask, i went back and watched it again just to make sure i didn't miss anything. the section being discussed starts around 26:13 and ends around 27:40 and in summary the interviewer asks jk about the special relationship bts have with army, how unique and symbiotic it is and what is jk's favorite part about this dynamic. jk answers that he agrees it's very special and how it's important to him personally to continue to try and have "authentic and comfortable" convos with army that show a real version of him. he adds the disclaimer that he knows that there's a line that shouldn't be crossed between performer and audience and he won't cross it but he wants to be our "friend" as much as he can.
so, do i think the "line" he has no intention of crossing here refers to not using army for his benefit/sexual desires/hook ups? uh, no, i'm with you anon, i don't think that's what he meant at all. but not because that line doesn't exist for him, i think it does, but like, that goes without saying, right? assuming jk is a decent human being who would never use his fame or money to unfairly take advantage of anyone, which is something i hope we're all on the same page about here as i don't know why anyone would ever willingly be a fan of someone they thought with high probability would do such a thing, would that not be saying the quiet part out loud? is there some group of genuinely delusional y/n's in a foxhole some where needing this spelled out still? (rhetorical, please don't make me think about saesangs today)
i put quotations around the word "friend" up there because at the end of the day, there will always be a (needed) barrier between idol/artist/performer and fan and jk can't really be our friend in the true sense of the word, which he's aware of. the nature of this type of relationship as a whole already maintains a weird, fluctuating power imbalance between both parties as one cannot exist without the other and you won't get very far, on the artist side of things especially, without understanding this.
but jk has kind of, sort of already crossed some "lines" with us in how willing he has been to show and share so much of himself with us, over the last year, in particular. in case you just fell off the turnip truck yesterday, as my very southern grandmother would say, getting to witness someone as famous and untouchable as jk chilling in real time in their home and bed even, is highly unusual. most celebrities with that level of status wouldn't be caught dead sharing something like that and understandably so, tbh, as most fans couldn't handle that level of intimacy with their idol. hell, a lot of people who consider themselves fans these days apparently can't handle it either, which makes me very sad and tbh how dare you potentially ruin the trust so many of us have spent years building up with them. rude. taking things for granted is how you lose them and the special relationship bts and army share only stays special with effort, but i digress.
Tumblr media
i think jk's disclaimer here was an assurance that he's very aware of what he has chosen to share could be perceived by some as having already gone too far but that his boundaries are still firmly in place. "authentic and comfortable" are a priority to him but he's not going to exceed our shared comfort zone. he may be a lot more candid than some, say seokjin, who may as well be an international man of mystery for as much as he's willing to show off the clock in comparison, but jk knows what he's doing. and considering how young he started and how long he's been in the spotlight, he seems exceptionally well adjusted and savvy overall at navigating these extremely tumultuous waters, imo.
anyway, respect your artists as human beings and know your own fan boundaries, folks. there's always some nuance to be had, especially on a site like this where it's a mostly contained bubble for us, the audience, to throw around our fiction and theories and odes to how beautiful they all are but when you leave this space with any of that (minus the odes, maybe) and put it in front of these very real people in question, you've gone too far. don't be that asshole. everyone despises that asshole. (including said artists! they're never going to say it that frankly but i will ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Full-on disclaimer for anyone who's never seen the disclaimers on my Star Wars fics - I never saw ROTS (I've tried, I've fucking tried, but retaining knowledge of TPM and AOTC to understand ROTS is impossible when my mind just wanders the fuck away during every attempt at a marathon PT watch), I only saw a handful of TCW episodes to study Satine and Mandalore, I never saw Rebels, I haven't seen TOTJ, and my non-OT/ST/Mandoverse/Andorverse/Kenobi/TBOBF/Solo knowledge comes from getting lost in the Wookeepedia, fandom osmosis, and several years playing SW Galaxy of Heroes.
The point is, I have half-baked knowledge and I am trying really hard and I can see the little kernels of interest and intrigue and "A ha! that's a Star Wars!" and my concluding thought for the 3rd episode of Ahsoka is, "FUCK YEAH, SPACE WHALES!!!"
Can someone just.... please explain the fuck to me what Dave is doing here with Ahsoka and Sabine? I don't know if it's the "Sabine thinks the best way to honor and also find Ezra is to become like him" or the whole "everyone has the Force Actually but you need talent, training, and some other fucking thing that sounds exactly like all the times I've been scolded for not trying hard enough thanks to my ADHD brain so that's fucking cool" bit. I don't know if it's that interview press tour thingy where Daisy told Domhnall that even Hux has the Force! Everyone has the Force! The Force is in all of us! We can all become the Jedi! I don't know if it's George's original idea that everyone can use the Force but not everyone does that eventually got changed to "a certain number of midichlorians in your blood gets you into the Jedi Temple". Or is it the whole "the Force is female" campaign? Is it Disney saying, "You can be a Jedi, too!" Are we Spider-man-ing the Jedi? Is that's what's going on? What the fuck is going on? Someone please tell me how we got from "the Force is in all living things and some people are able to sense and use the Force" to "the Force is in all living things and also everyone is capable of sensing and using the Force with the right amount of discipline and training and desire/'can do' attitude" because it feels like I'm being lied to. I'm being fucking bamboozled about what I know about Star Wars.
I don't even know what to say about the spacesuit. Just a lot of hysterical laughter maybe. Cool idea and I bet the concept designs were real fun but still. Hysterical laughter.
Slap some green hair on a kiddo and call him half-Twi'lek. OKAY THEN. Brilliant character design y'all got going. I guess you'd rather invest in the Volume than practical FX and makeup and shit?????
You know that feeling where you have all these thoughts and feelings and WORDS at the tip of your tongue but you lack the vocabulary or the fucking memory to hold that vocabulary and use it well? That's what I'm experiencing after watching Hera argue poorly with Mon and the Senators (they just formed the band and it's not going well, or so they say). This characterizing of bureaucracy, politicians, government is useless, clunky, stubborn, foolish, naive, soft, obstinate for no reason other than to hinder the rogueish hero, is such a tired, cheap trope. Haven't we learned enough from American copaganda shows? Haven't we learned from watching our hero cops and detectives bending and breaking rules to catch the bad guys while the Internal Affairs people are antagonists, rule-abiding busybodies who don't see that they're only getting in the way of our intrepid heroes catching the real bad guys?! Politics is messy and it is complicated and it is hard and it does have people who did sit on the sidelines during the war but to villainize them just because they didn't fight in the war, they didn't lose friends and family and Kanan, they won't give our general what she wants? Or do these senators already have history in the GFFA that I would've already known if I already watched some other TV shows or read the 'pedia religiously?
I thought the first 2 seasons of the Mando Show explored the post-OT galaxy pretty well. I liked how Din and Greef called the New Republic "a joke" and insinuated that they were unreliable and can't be counted upon to protect little Outer Rim worlds like Nevarro from Imperial remnants. It gave the impression of a baby Republic that is trying hard but struggling and their patrols are stretched so thin because of Mon's decision to demilitarize the Republic, and that's why they're such a non-presence out here in the Outer Rim. That's why Carson went out of his way to recruit Cara. She's been out here, she's done shit, she knows shit, she knows the lay of the land, she can be the eyes and ears that Carson and the New Republic can't be. You can build so fucking much out of these little interactions and conversations... but Dave & Jon chose to make things easy for themselves by characterizing the New Republic as incompetent, feckless, nonsensible, cruel, decadent, apathetic, uncaring, utterly useless to our very active rogueish heroes. They fast-tracked the New Republic's downfall to make it so much easier to prop up our heroes, and for what? To remind us that in the end it all doesn't fucking matter because Starkiller Base blows it all up anyway?
At least, at least, make it look like our heroes fucking tried to rebuild the galaxy after the Empire fell. At least make the New Republic fumbling and earnest but ultimately weighed down by so many voices demanding that they be prioritized in the rebuilding. Mon's government inherited a really fucking bad situation but at least have them reach halfway to something that she and Leia can be proud of before the infighting started and political factions started ripping down all that hard-fought and hard-won progress. Talk about the fucking whiplash from the despair and hope of Andor to whatever the fuck Mandalorian Season 3 showed us and whatever the fuck Ahsoka is continuing to show us.
Anyway.
I get that having a droid sidekick is the Cool Star Wars Thing To Do, but should Huyang really be treated as a sidekick and an expodumper? He really fucking should have gone to Ossus with Luke but nah, leave that fucking loser to his own business ignoring Ahsoka and Hera trying to stop a new war that nobody believes is actually going to happen. I mean, if you really think about it, did Hera really sell anything to these senators? It seems to me that all they see is a general who has only known war and will only ever see war around every corner, in every nook and cranny, under every bed. Of course they're going to be fucking skeptical and of course they're going to question her request for even more resources to find Ezra and maybe stop Thrawn, and the fucking answer, Hera Syndulla, is to not question if these people ever fought in the Rebellion and shame them for the sacrifices they did not make. This is such fucking cheapsass writing and it really sucks all the fun out of the episode.
Speaking of fun, how about them space whales! Bring them back, Felony. I want space whales and I want space cats. Give me purrgils and lothcats all day, every day.
I can't stop thinking about Disney's decision to give Ahsoka a primetime slot. I can't stop thinking about why that show got a primetime slot and not any of the other ones. Is it the numbers? Are they trying to catch a particular kind of crowd? What are the numbers, Disney? Why won't you show us the numbers? Where the fuck are the numbers, Disney? What are you afraid of? What are you hiding? What won't you tell your writers and your actors, Disney? What aren't you saying?
Anyway, space whales rule and I got other goddamn shit to do like keep writing my own ideas on a post-OT galaxy through fic.
P.S. The way Ray just fucking oozes charisma even if he was only there for like 2 minutes. And Diana remains fantastic. I love her brand of villainy even if I'm still baffled by her being a human Witch. What the fuck.
Season 4 wasn't great. I've LOVED every other season but for this one the characters were off, the jokes fell flat (if I hear one more fart joke I stg) and the huge time skip wasn't great either.
The whole season feels like they could have condensed it down to 2 episodes but they decided to add a million characters and plot lines that didn't matter.
Idk. It looks like they overworked the batter and the fluffy pancake we were promised is now flatter than a witch's tit.
I mean, still technically a pancake. So I'm not mad, just disappointed.
disclaimer: i LOVE the dragon prince, i loved seasons 1-3 and i enjoyed season 4. here's the deal, season 4 is a fun season and i enjoyed watching it. i do think, however, that the writing got a mediocre a little too often for it to be worth the 3-year wait. if you disagree with me, i am more than open to hear thoughts and counterarguments. seriously. i think discussion is healthy and it's something i actually really enjoy because i like talking. also, i'm way too tired to have people yelling at me/to yell at other people with a different opinion than me...i am a college student and i am already dying so please, be respectful. i am not trying to actively insult anyone who liked season 4 and i am also not vehemently hating on the show [criticisim != hate] i'm more than happy for the people who enjoyed the season and i really do like to hear thoughts. with that out of the way, hello anon, here's a wall of unorganized text that attempts to convey my feelings overall
since i am an actual child, i laughed at the jokes but that's beside the point. i get where people are coming from when they say they were poorly timed and/or didn't land well
but on the topic of jokes, season 4 had me laughing at a lot of things i....shouldn't have been laughing at. and honestly, it makes me feel like an asshole lol but i'm sorry some of the more emotional or intense scenes are just really goofy with the way they were executed and yes, if someone wants me to, i can go in depth with this, but for the purpose of this ask (especially since it wasn't focused on the humor in the first place) i won't give my thoughts here
i'm going to be very blunt: tdp has kind of backed itself into a corner if there isn't a twist or some sort of major consequence for rayla leaving. if rayla leaves for 2 years and nothing comes from it other than relationship drama, that's a bit yikes. i'm not saying that everything should have been resolved this season, but the show doesn't even try to tell the audience that something bigger may be happening. if there IS a bigger consequence, the show doesn't properly hint at it/set it up, and THATS where the issue is. when it gives us nearly nothing to speculate off of, we have no idea where her character or the story is going. <- this is not a catalyst for mystery, it's frustrating because everyone (especially rayla) feels out of character and for what
also, this is a nitpick, but callum letting rayla go after viren in episode 9 was not earned.
anyways, the season had to reintroduce us to the characters that we haven't seen for 3 years, and it has to inform everyone about the 2-year time skip. the time skip, in my opinion, was not done well. time skips are used to grow up the characters and introduce new characters, environments, and potential plot points for the rest of the story that is being told. the dragon prince does not do this very well. yes, there are new characters, but they aren't even necessarily relevant for the rest of the story, so it feels like wasted time. the candle woman and the n'than dude show up and then drop off of the face of the earth never to be seen again. terry is fine, but i do think it's a bit odd to give claudia, someone who has gone off the deep end, a really goofy and lighthearted boyfriend (he's just there to keep her morality in check a little bit, i.e. giving rayla the coins). i think overall, a lot of things happen in season 4, but it feels like a very small portion of said things actually set up for the future.
i've been avoiding bringing this up, mostly because i'm lazy and i don't want to find exact quotes from the show, but i'll bite. the writing for seasons 1-3 felt authentic and natural. the writing in season 4 felt so on-the-nose, shallow, and almost preachy.
"i was impressed with your vision for using the dragon queen's visit as a catalyst for growing trust and peace across the continent"
"they might be at first. but it will change when they meet her"
^ ezran says this and yup, that's enough on that topic, no need to explore it further. i think the writing overall was just so lackluster and forced compared to previous seasons. again, i could elaborate on this but i've gone on for long enough in this post so if someone wants me to just ask...might take a really long time for me to respond though getting my thoughts in order takes forever.
im going through baby fever again...<\3. And I'm literally in love with sage and I think he deserves so much love and KISSES. Anyway what do you think sage would be like with a pregnant MC? Or if they're about to adopt a kid. Ultrasounds<33 sage crying when he first sees their baby. Yeah he gets emotional that MC wants to start a family with them. ALSOOMGG IM SORRY IF THIS IS A WEIED REQUEST IM JUST WATCHING THE MOVIE JUNO AND I TENS TO GET OBSESSED WITH THINGS
Y'know I've never actually seen Juno. I always hear how good it is but I just haven't gotten around to watching it. Is it really that good?
Also again? Are you the same anon that asked for this one?
First part is AFAB but GN!Reader, bullshitting my way through birth (and vague birth things therein), second part is GN!Reader, bullshitting my way through the adoption process, I'm in the US so I'm kinda using vaguely American standards/procedures because that's what I'm semi-familiar with, Disclaimer - I know very little about either of these topics!!, Modern!AU
Part One
Personally, I think the pregnancy was a surprise.
Sage might have wanted kids but he definitely didn't think he was ready for them. He never thought he would ever be ready for kids.
But he likes having sex, and he certainly likes having sex with you, and I just don't know if Sage uses condoms
God I miss the old team so much
Anyways one way or another, you're pregnant now.
Would you be nervous to tell him? Sage has made no secret that he gets antsy about commitment, but he's also head over heels in love with you so??
Once you show him the positive pregnancy test (or the several, if you wanna be sure), h o l y s h i t he is so excited actually!!! He's about to pick you up and spin you around but,, he's big and stronk and worried about accidentally hurting you so
He hugs you against him but just avoids squeezing your stomach in any way.
Starts getting like,,, a million baby-raising books but also doesn't have the patience to read them so he tries to flick through them but even that takes too much concentration so he just kinda. One time it's three in the morning and you go into the kitchen for water and he's just sitting at the table holding the book against his head,,, and you ask him what he's doing and he says he's learning through osmosis,,,, plz send his ass back to bed.
He tells Tulsi, Lucan, and Balsam right away (he got too excited and forgot to ask you if that was alright), but I think he waits a little while to tell the others. Probably the first 2-3 months (typically the riskiest period) or when you decide you're ready. But Lucan might have already spilled the beans so.
Y'know.
He goes with to all the appointments if you let him. He always asks the doctor a thousand questions. Takes notes. A baby is a very delicate and fragile thing and he wants to make sure he's doing everything right.
Side note if anyone - and that includes medical professionals - misgenders you, he'll correct them and clearly be a little annoyed. If they continue doing it he will 1,000% get in their face about it.
Ultrasounds,, just stares at it in fascination because Holy Shit!! That's a little person!!!! You have a whole ass little dude in you!!!!!! And that little dude is half him!!!!!!!!!!!! Mind-blowing.
If he hasn't gone to therapy yet I think he might start now! He has a lot of conflicting emotions (fear that he'll be a shit dad, anxiety that you'll regret this, an awareness that he can't just up and leave if something goes wrong, etc etc.) and he doesn't wanna burden you with them or risk letting them out in the wrong way and accidentally hurting you. Also cutting back on his drinking is,, more difficult than he expected,,,
He and Tulsi are out at a bar,, they've been there for over an hour and he's only had like two beers and that's pretty low for him!! They're playing darts. And she points out that he's grown up a lot. And then he promptly manages to throw a dart into someone's shoulder and it's like. Well. Alrighty then.
He's so good at accommodating your food cravings,, constantly looking up new recipes for you. If it's something he can't cook then he'll run to the store even if it's 3 in the morning.
Kitty is overprotective! Worries about you working too hard. Doesn't like you helping with chores because he doesn't want you overexerting yourself. Legit will carry you around if you ever hint that your feet hurt.
He is a vibrating heating pad!! Very good for when you're sore.
If you're over-emotional from hormones then he walks on eggshells to try and avoid upsetting you. Will tell stupid jokes to make you laugh.
As your due date gets closer, you guys put a birthing plan together, carry around a go-bag all the time, etc etc. He wants to be prepared!! It helps him keep calm. He also makes sure everyone else knows the plan just in case he's not around.
Would be hilarious if like,, you're out with Tulsi and Elowen when your water breaks/contractions start and Tulsi has to stunt-drive you to the hospital,,, fucking drifting,,,, badass woman. I love her so much. Elowen is trying to time your contractions but cannot focus beCAUSE TULSI THAT IS A FUCKING RED LIGHT!!!
Anyways you manage to text Sage (he was out with the bois picking up a crib and they'd stopped to get lunch) and then pull up at the hospital and get rushed around everywhere and lose your phone, so who the fuck knows where he is!!
Luckily the boys wasn't too far away (the baby store was near the hospital anyways) so they're able to get there in like,, ten minutes. Balsam has to ask where you're at because Sage is way too frazzled to form words rn. He was [] this close to just tearing down various hallways until he found you.
All hail Balsam, holder of the Holy Braincell
The rest of the Griefers hunker down in the waiting room while you and Sage are in the,, idk,,, labor waiting room? Wherever they take pregnant people idk. I tried Googling stuff but I'm getting a bunch of different answers so
Um. Idk. Waves hands vaguely. Birth things.
Actually I'm gonna tell you guys a story about how I was born!
So I was apparently a big ass baby, right? And the contractions were really really painful. So my mom was massaging her stomach and she somehow managed to turn me sideways. And then she tried to push me out but guess what!! It was like trying to shove a log through a Cheerio!!! So the doctors had to turn me so I could come out normally, and my mom said it was the most painful thing she's ever experienced.
Y'know the iconic chestburster scene from the original Alien? I like to say I did to my mom's vagina.
Anyways!
You give birth, hopefully less traumatically than that. Sage is next to you the entire time, squeezing your hand and trying to keep you calm and praising you for doing so well and 'Holy shit it looks like you're shitting out a watermelon!!! Babe-! right, not helping!'
Baby comes out. Once the doctors have cleaned it up and whatever else they do for a new baby, they ask him if he wants to cut the umbilical cord,, his hand is shaking a little as he does it,,, holding your child - his child, it hasn't sunk in yet - like they're the most precious thing in all of reality, because they are!! He doesn't even realize he's crying until you tease him for it. Very softly sits down on the edge of the bed next to you,, once the nurse takes the kid to go do final information and clean it up and put it in the baby room or whatever, Sage is hugging you and bawling his eyes out.
Meanwhile you just shat out a fucking watermelon so. Idk. Hope someone gets you an ice pack or something.
Part Two
I think Sage would like being a foster parent actually! But we'll stick with adoption for this post.
I think,, that,,, he would want to adopt an older kid. It's emotionally weird for him because he's been in that position and he knows how frequently the older ones get neglected and forgotten.
Idk. You guys can talk about it.
Adoption is like,, a whole ass process,,, apparently it can take between 6-18 months?? And all I can think of is the Stuart Little movie where they picked a whole ass mouse and then brought him home the same fucking day. Like. Okay. I guess. House mice only live like 2 years on average so presumably they got to skip the process cause he woulda been fucking dead by the end of it
Also can we talk about what a weird movie that was??
Anyways this is also a good time for him to start therapy!!! You gotta go through interviews and tests and shit and this is a weird emotional thing for him for obvious reasons so.
He is so terrified of fucking something up. Please hug him tight and smother him with kisses and reassure him.
The further you guys get in the process, the more confident he (gradually) becomes. As long as you're by his side, he knows everything will work out.
If my Googling is to be believed, typically there's several interviews/get-togethers with the child to make sure it's a good fit and everything? Sage is so nervous about making a bad impression oh dear. Luckily he kinda has a natural charm that makes kids like him so that works out pretty well. He's honest about his background and I think that helps them bond a lot.
When he tells Tulsi that you guys are gonna adopt, she cries a little. Refuses to admit it and swears something just got in her eye. Meanwhile Balsam is squeezing the life out of you. He gives big hugs.
Sage finds out the kid's interests and starts tentatively decorating the room,, wants the kid to have an input but also knows something needs to be set up for the groundwork.
Everyone starts referring to Sage as a dad and he tears up a little bit.
Kitty cat settling down and starting a family
elio is symbolized as like more of a object of desire. and something to taint/something oliver is afraid of tainting. like oliver obviously likes him (not at all obvious at first tbh) but there's this whole scene where elio's father is looking at some sculptures with oliver and oliver goes "these are all incredibly sensual." and elios father says black blah Hellenistic period, "muscles are firm. look at his stomach for example. not a straight body in these statues they're all curved. sometimes impossibly curved. and so nonchalant. hence their ageless ambiguity. as if they're daring you to desire them." and they had already kissed by then, but oliver kept pulling away because he's looking at this like it's bad (like i'm kinda neutral on the age gap it's not as big of a thing as it's made out to be. just larger implications lmao) and he says "and we've been good. we haven't done anything to be ashamed of. and that's a good thing. i wanna be good." it's like. elio is like his temptation. like it doesn't really seem that way overall but. BIG PICTURE... with all the fruit motif & talk of goodness and desire. well. he even tells elio "do you know how happy i am we slept together?" "i don't know" "of course you don't know...i don't want you to regret anything. and i hate the thought that maybe i may have messed you up or...i don't want either one of us to pay for this" like there's some sort of divine punishment coming his way. or that elio feels like bad now. and it's largely around being queer than the age gap is how i read it tbh. idk what period it is but they don't have mobile phones and they just have radios and landlines it seems.  and later oliver talks about how elio is lucky for his accepting parents. that his dad would have shipped him off to a camp. so elio saying "i'm -i'm not gonna tell anyone" was less a. i'm 17 and ur an adult than. we had gay sex last night. yk? it's just like the whole thing pushing and pulling it kills me bc i feel like elio was more. um. sexually involved yk as a teenager and oliver more genuinely liked him which is where i think people are like hmm. but. when ur a teenager. sometimes u show it through. sexuality. but like. that's the problem but it's not really a problem. i'm babbling rn. oh and the apricot scene. really been chewing it up in my brain. got nothing lmao. it's not like. it wasn't like super weird. teenagers are gonna shit like that but people are like :(( he threw a temper tantrum. bruh it was like a 2 minute scene and he cried for like 2 seconds and wiped his tears and apologized and it was just like. too much lmao bc he was sad that oliver was leaving like that's all. like he said i don't want you to leave or whatever. oliver was not making fun of him or anything elio was just like. embarrassed 😭. like ok u can call it immature but . idk. i wrote an essay damn.  yeah that's like my iffys. like it wasn't bad really i just have a brain and know that it wasn't exactly hm healthy.
i feel like i missed stuff but. um. u can ask questions 😭? i could be reading it wrong. was not as bad as some ppl made it out to me. but like elio is distinctly a 17 yr old. i'm not saying the gap is good by any means the movie however wasn't Bad. this is fiction not real life blah blah i understand that fiction chan give me biases tho. i feel the need to disclaim that for some reason. i'm not an english professor im just some gay teen on the internet who watched this too late at night.
akajdjfks ok. I don't really have any questions but if you do have more to say feel free
@foximator-blog your ask was getting a little long so I decided to make it into a separate post!
Yandere Tsuyu
Reader here is male and has a dragonfly quirk
Disclaimer: everything in green text is Tsuyu's narrative so these notes especially aren't meant to be taken seriously. This is not healthy. This entire scenario isn't showing a healthy relationship. Nor is it gloryfing it.
She had more desire to see you happy, rather than being with you. She'd often observe you and follow you whenever you weren't talking to each other.
She's so glad she learned how to turn invisible. It was much easier to keep you safe that way. You needed her. Who else would protect you?
She didn't stalk you all day, mostly until you got back home she'd leave you alone.
But after you got a girlfriend, she now had two people to follow. It was hard but she managed a route where she both could make sure you're safe and see what that girl might be up to.
At first she didn't seem half bad but she could tell that there was something wrong with her. Call that woman's intuition.
Your girlfriend started lying to you a bit too often. It always had to do with her schedule.
Tsuyu knew where this was going, but you were too sweet to see it for what it is. You were just so adorably gullible...
She wanted to act right away, but she also wanted to see your reaction first.
She needs to know how harsh she has to be. If you take it well, she'll go easy on your soon to be ex- if not she better watch out. But of course there's no telling what she might do with all her pent up anger.
After all was said and done she knew it was time to make a move. That girl proved to her that no matter what, Tsuyu is the only person that can make her dear Bugaboo happy.
She was a perfect girlfriend. You could always count on her but there was something off about her once you started dating.
But hey, everyone changes at least slightly once they finally get with someone they adore, right? There is no need for you to find it suspicious.
She was always really interested in you but sometimes she acts like she already knew something you haven't even told anyone. It must've been just that she isn't too expressive, she definitely didn't know any of that... How would she even find that kind of things out?
She always allowed you to hang out with your friends without her. Somehow though you always could feel her presence... Ah it must be so nice to feel your beloved with you even when they aren't there!
campaign 1 got me through some really tough times. i truly don't think i would be alive without campaign 1. i wanted so badly to like campaign 2 when it started. i was so, so excited and i felt let down and disappointed at every turn. i thought the episodes were too long and directionless, i didn't like any of the characters, and i couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to buy into the idea that any of them would stay together as a cohesive group. i only managed to watch about 20 sessions before i gave up, and everything new i learned from friends only made me angrier and more jaded. i have specific beef with one of the characters and their player, which only got worse as the campaign progressed.
during c1 i was already watching/listening to a few other RPG shows, especially non-d&d ones, but it was during the run of c2 that people started to find their own niches for content (as opposed to trying to just emulate cr) and i found content and ways of running games/telling stories that i vastly preferred to matt's.
i now no longer engage with the content at all. partly because even the friends i had that were still trying to find enjoyment in c2 were so disappointed by the end that they also no longer engage with it, but partly because i would much rather dedicate my time and energy to consuming and lifting up content i enjoy, rather than being negative about something i don't. i have absolutely no idea what is happening with campaign 3, and i am much happier for it.
p.s. if you like cyberpunk and cool sci-fi stories, i highly recommend watching Callisto 6 on Youtube. It ran on Geek and Sundry before the site shut down, and is a beautiful tale of hope in the face of adversity. Plus a guest appearance from Mark Meer! The full series is available here, there are 24 episodes total, each under 3 hours. It's a perfect example of incredible, non-d&d actual play, and the things I think are cr's biggest weaknesses are executed much better in it.
So it's been at least a few days coming, but I finally want to sit down and write this update post. I'll put it under a read more, but it's mostly my thoughts on the three holidays I took lately.
Queensland:
This was the shortest of my trips, only lasting about 2 1/2 days. I was mostly going up to attend my friend's wedding (which was amazing in every way), but while I was there, I also got to watch one of the first shows of Bananaland, a musical written by Kate Miller-Heidke, who many of you know is my favourite artist. The show was great, and though I found it very Australian, given it was promoted as the 'world' premiere, I hope it gets the chance to travel outside of Australia and 100% recommend going if you get the chance to.
Visiting parts of Queensland that I haven't in nearly 20 years also made me realise just how little of Australia I have travelled and though it will be a while before I do another big trip, I'm thinking the next one I do will be trying to visit as many of the Australian states that I haven't already, or at least one of them. Like I've always said that Australia is my favourite place to be and so beautiful, and I know that it is a privilege to say this, but it's also so convenient in that I rarely "have" to go anywhere that isn't Canberra or Sydney because everything is so accessible, but I want to see more so that's the plan.
But yeah, ultimately, had it not been the case that I was heading overseas the following week, I would have extended my stay in Queensland because it was as beautiful as ever.
Oahu:
The following week I went to Hawaii, specifically Oahu, for six nights. I want to word this carefully because I do not want anyone to think that Oahu isn't a beautiful place, it is. But it is also one I'm not sure I will ever return to. I am currently reading From A Native Daughter by Haunani-Kay Trask (a book I brought from Iolani Castle while over there), and though both the book and my prior knowledge of how tourism has tainted Hawaii ring true to this day, nothing is as eye opening as witnessing, and yes, partaking in it myself. The argument can be made that that's the case everywhere to some degree. Like Australians aren't sitting around having a 'shrimp on the barbie' and saying 'g'day' all day and Japan is far more than kimonos and anime. But there was something about my stay in Hawaii that felt almost disingenuous and very marketed in a way that I have never felt while travelling before. The only time I did not feel this was at Iolani Castle (thank you to the anon who recommended it to me! It was genuinely one of my favourite places there) or out in nature, whether it be hiking Diamond Head or at the beach. This isn't to say I did not enjoy the other activities I did such as Sealife or Kualoa Ranch, but there is definitely something to be said about the nature and history of Hawaii being the biggest positive impacts on me during this trip. There is also a weird irony in that despite it being so commercialised and 'tourist bait' like in nature, I found it ... lacking in terms of trying to get souvenirs for loved ones, but obviously that it the least of my concerns. But yeah, as a whole, though it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to, I'm unsure if I will ever go back to Oahu, and if I do, it will be a very different kind of trip.
Disney Cruise:
The main reason I went to Oahu was because last year Disney announced their inaugural cruise to Australia (starting in Oahu) and I was one of the privileged ones to get a spot on it. Now before starting, I want to make the disclaimer that yes, I know Disney supporting Israel's government is horrible, it is also something I was unaware of until I got back as the cruise started the day the donation was public and I was predominately without internet from the moment I flew out from Australia the week before until October 27th when we disembarked from the cruise in Sydney. So with that in mind, before finding out about Disney's donation, I wrote a piece on why I would recommend it to those considering it here. Obviously that now comes with every side note in existence surrounding their shady behaviour and how there would have to be a large shift for me to stand by the recommendation now, even if I stand by the great words I said about the workers. There's also some of my disappointments as part of it too, but as mentioned in the document, they were minor in comparison.
I will also note that coming from a poorer background, it was a bit of a shock to feel the culture/wealth difference while on the ship (shout out to the family who was genuinely shocked when I said that this was the only Disney cruise I was doing because I didn't have the money to do more then responded by telling me about the 2 dozen other Disney cruises they've done lmao). Despite the difference, everyone, staff or otherwise, was incredibly nice, like more so than any other trip I've been on from memory.
Though this cruise cemented that cruising is not for me, I am extremely glad I went because the port stops made me want to return to those places. Though I've been to Noumea a few times (it's the main international location Australian cruises go to), I had not been to American Samoa or Fiji before. Both were first time stops for Disney cruises from what I was told, and it somewhat shows (hopefully something they can work together to fix over time). The American Samoa port adventure was pretty much a hop on/off bus where you only got 5 minutes to shoot a few photos in each spot. Likewise, the (short, there is a longer one that we did not have time for) Colo-I-Suva rainforest walk and swim in Fiji, while beautiful, was rushed considering they only gave us an hour (despite making us sit and wait over an hour for lunch afterwards). So yeah, I would definitely love to go back and explore on my own in the future.
But yeah again, ultimately while I don't think think I'll ever do another Disney cruise, or maybe even cruise in general, I am glad that I got to experience something different by going on this one.
Sydney:
And finally there's my 4 day trip to Sydney I took less than a week after getting back. For reference, my mum (and I in Sam's case) is a massive Charlie Puth and Sam Smith fan and both were playing within days of each other. Though we go to Sydney semi regularly given that is the closest location for 99% of concerts, both being back home and being up there really gave me a sense of being back in Australia/home. Like I mentioned this to people on the cruise, but as much as I love to travel to new places, Australia is my home and I just cannot imagine living elsewhere, and it shows with the unique feeling I get being here. Anyway, alongside our usual market and beach trips (as an aside note, god do Australian beaches feel different to Waikiki beach, like both are beautiful in their own ways but the difference was so noticeable for me), we had the two concerts.
As someone who only knows a few of Charlie's hits, he was ... endearing in that 'loveable nothing guy that has a good mix of charisma and earnestness about him' way. Like I get the appeal and teenage/early 20s me woulda eaten that shit up, but with how many concerts I go to that have big productions or vocals, it was just a very different vibe.
Sam was far closer to the vibe I usually see with their changing outfits and talks about what Gloria, the album which this tour is based around, means to them and so on. Though I would have loved to go to their last tour (The Thrill of It All is one of the best albums of all time and you can fight me on that if you don't agree lmao), this one was also so much fun. Mum and I were also invited to the free Amex After Party (the first we've ever attended) which gave out free drinks, food and exclusive merchandise alongside having the opening act do an acoustic set then having a disco/nightclub for a few hours before a party bus took us back to Central. If you ever get a chance to do one of these, definitely go for it... just know that the drinks line will take you half an hour or more to get through lmao. But yeah still go because it was great, especially for a free event.
And yeah that's it I guess. Overall I'm so glad and privileged to have been able to go on all of these trips at all in one lifetime, let alone over 6 weeks, but I'm also so glad to be home. The only foreseeable trips I have coming up now is a one nighter in Sydney in January to see Noah Kahan (shout out to my friend for getting me a ticket while I didn't have internet!) and then my week in Melbourne in February when I'm seeing Taylor, and honestly? With how homesick I got near the end of all this, I wouldn't have it any other way lmao.
