“Non accettare nulla come verità
che sia privo di amore.
E non accettare nulla come amore
che sia privo di verità!
L’uno senza l’altra diventa
una menzogna distruttiva.”

It is not a question here of a sovereignty of man over woman. She is named as companion and helpmate, and it is said of man that he will cling to her and that both are to become one flesh. This signifies that we are to consider the life of the initial human pair as the most intimate community of love, that their faculties were in perfect harmony as within one single being; likewise, before the Fall, all faculties in each individual were in perfect harmony, senses and spirit in right relation with no possibility of conflict. For this reason, they were also incapable of inordinate desire for one another. This is revealed in the words “They were naked and were not ashamed.”

Santa Teresia Benedicta a Cruce (Edith Stein)
Tumblr media
Born and raised Jewish, Edith Stein converted to Catholicism following a period of spiritual dryness. She became a Discalced Carmelite nun, and she adopted the name Teresia Benedicta a Cruce. She was later killed in the gas chambers of Auschwitz for her Jewish heritage.
Iconography: yellow badge; flower crown given to newly cloistered Discalced Carmelite; her book Kreuzeswissenschaft: Studie über Johannes vom Kreuz (The Science of the Cross: A Study of Saint John of the Cross). I also used the image of the scratched gas chamber walls as the background.

St. Edith Stein (aka Teresa Benedicta). She was a Jewish convert and philosopher who was killed in the Holocaust. Edith Stein really resonates with me because I'm half Jewish and she noted that women possess unique traits that Pope John Paul II would later refer to as “the feminine genius.” :)
FUCK YEAH EDITH STEIN OHHHHH YEAHHHHH GIRLIE I LOVE MY GIRL TERESA BENEDICTA OF THE CROSS
She was a BAMF philosopher and legitimately a genius everyone and anyone should know who Edith Stein was
another vote added for her!

Tu, più vicino a me di me stessa, e più intimo del mio intimo, e tuttavia inafferrabile e incomprensibile, che oltrepassi ogni nome:
Tu, amore eterno!

“But no helpmate corresponding to him was found for Adam.” 5 The Hebrew expression used in this passage is barely translatable 6—Eser kenegdo— which literally means “a helper as if vis-à-vis to him.” One can think here of a mirror in which man is able to look upon his own nature. The translators who speak of a “helpmate suitable to him” perceive it in this way. But one can also think of a counterpart, a pendant, so that, indeed, they do resemble each other, yet not entirely, but rather, that they complement each other as one hand does the other.
