Speaking of comic books, can I introduce you to a Filipino comic that I really liked? Maybe you have heard of it

It's called Trese, they have it online but I'm not sure if they also have it in physical stores

To put it simple, its like a noir series but with the supernatural creatures of the Philippines

It also has been adapted to a Netflix animated series (I recommend the English subbed version but the dubbed version is just as good)

Looks interesting, I'll try to look into it.

Robin Hood and Little John walkin' through the forest--

alright! so! early robin hood ballads and narratives don't have an origin story for little john, but a later ballad (robin hood and little john) does. they fight on a bridge in it, but I like looking at illustrations, so I've swapped out the bridge for that tree peaking out of the panel in the first panel bc I enjoy louis rhead's illustrations a lot.

this is some kind of introduction scene after they fight and climb out of the river!

cassius and trebonius are interesting because there's about three or four different variations on how their dynamic falls into place that exist in my mind, and all are equally compelling to me. like, does cassius approach him first? or is it trebonius that seeks him out. maybe cicero is the one who initiates the first meeting! I could make full comics about each of them if only there was time.

this one, however, is much more balanced in that they don't really seek each other out for conspiracy, but conspiracy creeps in on it's own. brutus is a character here, theoretically. like, I thought about him when I was writing this, and cicero is here for two panels.

also, it's funny to me if they both stay up late complaining about caesar for six hours straight because caesar fucked them over on the political ladder in comparable ways, but also (in reference to (Plutarch, Brutus 8)):

cassius, 4am: and he took my fucking lions, man. trebonius, immediately: do you want me to kill him for you

it's like. aughghhhhh. weeping. wailing. can we talk about how trebonius is identified in association with cassius here.

As a fan of the Trese comics by Budgette Tan and KaJo Baldisimo, while I thought the Netflix series (covering the first three volumes) wasn't a perfect adaptation, I'd still recommend it to those that haven't seen it yet.

I just realized I haven't shared this here. It's almost Halloween, so I might revisit the Trese Netflix series. I only watched it once and in the Filipino dub, so I might watch the English dub next time.

I am! (☞ﾟヮﾟ)☞

I was born in Iloilo City and like, two years after that my family moved to Canada. So sure, I'm Filipino, but I'm not really connected with my roots culturally or linguistically. I have been to the Philippines once, and I have been raised in that Western Filipino/Asian lifestyle if ya know what I mean.

In terms of Trese, I enjoyed it! Didn't like the ending, which kinda soured my overall enjoyment of the show's entirety but I enjoyed every episode aside the last. Alexandra is a pretty interesting protagonist and I love her brothers. My sister and I talked about cosplaying them---me being Basilo and her being Alexandra (we just decided we'd be Crispinless)---but we both can't see jack shit without our glasses so we decided it would be a shelved idea.

Filipino rep wise, I enjoyed Trese as my sisters and mum filled me in on all the folklore that my mom had told them when they were kids. And though I'm not well versed in Ilonggo I can still understand it here and there, so it was great hear Filipino accents in an anime art style.
