04/29/23 - Point Venture, TX - LAKE OR RIVER? - Today, we took a break from house hunting in Lago Vista to check out Point Venture, the outermost point on the peninsula a few miles south of Lago. Right now, the lake is only about 45% full which makes it a much longer walk down to Captain Pete’s, the floating restaurant seen pictured. Some might say it’s floating on the Colorado River; some would say Lake Travis. Take your pick as both are right. As for us, we’re looking forward to a great lunch on the lake and getting to know the area one restaurant at a time.

Stunning Restaurant Iris Is a Floating Silver Orb
A literal floating silver orb. Floating calmly in the Norwegian fjords.  What is this beautiful madness? Feeling like a real-life version of the stylized restaurant from “The Menu” film, Restaurant Iris ups the ante with a stunning, orb design that floats upon the Rosendal fjord. Except unlike in the movie, you’ll be returning from this experience very much alive Featuring 18 courses of…

Chiang Rai, northern Thailand, there’s a floating restaurant on the Kok River. The river is about 250 metres wide and running at about 10 knots, one hopes the moorings are substantial. The food, as ever, is sublime. Carpe diem !!

"La Balsanera," Babahoyo, Ecuador,
Several centuries ago, the Babahoyo River in Ecuador, with its floating houses, was one of the main storage and rest points on the trade route taken by merchants and farmers between the cities of Guayaquil and Quito.
Today, the river is no longer used as a trade route, and the number of floating structures has fallen from 200 to 25, putting them at risk of extinction, despite being recognized as intangible human heritage in Ecuador.

that the world is violent and flawed and filled with injustice is a central theme of one piece, for sure, but the other side of that coin is wonder and magic and whimsy and pure unconditional love for your friends and adventure and the sea the sea the sea
if the world is going to be filled with agony i think i'd prefer to live in the version where you can get on a ship with your friends and tear those systems apart with your teeth, and lay out in the sun with the wind in your hair, and not ever once have the idea of rent cross your mind

Kinda curious how you think/do the whole power-up stuff from the Tower an Peps thoughts about all of that stuff that happened.
I can only imagine how the ghost transformation must've felt, or squished into a pizza box.
This is interesting; i dont really have any thoughts on that! As much as i try to flesh out characters and make them seem a bit more real, i do still enjoy the cartoon nature of the world heehee there are monsters and creatures and nifty wizards but also its like the world of roger rabbit; Peppino is human but hes still a Cartoon human and so there are things they can all do simply bc its based on cartoon logic. However. I do like the idea of the tower itself being a bit more wild and absurd than the rest of the world. Cartoon logic lets Peppino bash through walls and run faster than Brick, but cartoon logic within the tower lets him die and transform into a ghost for some reason lmao
But i think cartoon logic can still be offputting. I like the idea of Pizzahead being a rudeass bc his whole world operates on cartoon logic that works in his favor all the time. Peppino is an anxious mess bc cartoon logic almost never works in his favor. Within the walls of the tower, cartoon logic allows Pizzahead to do all kinds of fun and silly things bc its funny! Its funnier for him to be immune to painful stuff like getting punched or suplexed into the ground, and its funnier to have Peppino suffer with weird transformations like ‘Turning Into a Pizza Box’. Its funnier to have Pizzahead seem indifferent or oblivious to Peppinos misery, and its funnier to have Peppino lose his mind at all the stressful and weird shit happening to him.
When hes back outside the tower, its back to normal but its still like. A cartoonish setting yeah? Just not as Hellish (for him). Like he does not think of the transformations as like ‘that was weird, humans cant do that!’ Its more like ‘that was weird…but it didnt kill me so i guess im good’ If that makes sense? Its another weird thing he has to deal with but its not more insane than a pepper with a face and a pizza with a body lol

As someone who has never read or watched One Piece, jumping directly into the live action is so funny. Idk if it was like that originally but pirates with sneakers and graphic t shirts are so funny to me
