Milky Way Over the Boochle - by John Mc Sporran

This is my first attempt at astrophotography. I took two photos, one 30 sec exposure at ISO 6400 for the Milky Way (blowing out the foreground / land in the process) then one for Buachaille Etive Mhor at the head of Glencoe, Highlands, Scotland. I then combined the images in photoshop making the necessary adjustments to ensure both exposures were complementary.

After reading Gavin Hardcastle (Fototripper) comments about most astrophotography being a compromise and blending of two shots (sky and foreground) and not attempting to make unrealistic or false claims about such images being a single capture, I decided to revisit my previous shots to create this shot. Check out his Flickr page, website and guidance, which I find really useful.

I had a deep dive into a hard drive yesterday and way back in 2015 I took my family to Nante Mills for a family portrait which was a great excuse for some landscape photography. These images have been reworked but I can really see how immature they are compared to my photography now, I am pleased with how my technique has improved and my knowledge has grown, I feel that yes its down to practice but also through the amazing YouTube videos of people like @peggyclear @nigel.danson and @fototripper to name a few who have selflessly shared their knowledge. Thanks in part to them I feel I'm getting better at creating the images I strive to create but where are all the female photographers?
