They would hit virality in early 2020 with their TikTok classic, Cupid, skyrocketing the once nugu girl group to stardom. Flowerbank worked quickly to keep the hype around the girls, keeping them booked and busy throughout all of 2020 and 2021.

Despite their success domestically and internationally, Sunlite would lose another member, Mina, at the end of 2021, citing "contractual disagreements" as the reason for her departure. Quickly, netizens would notice the remaining members liking posts shading Mina and calling her deadweight and that Sunlite would be better without her. Mina, the remaining four members, and Flowerbank have never commented on this matter besides snide comments the members would make.

Now a four-piece, Sunlite is Flowerbank's favorite homegrown success story. Flowerbank often mentions their organic growth and natural progression to where they are now in the industry. All four members have resigned their contracts with Flowerbank and plan to stay a group until they're little old ladies.

JEONG MIHEE, 1997 ... Mihee was one of Flowerbank's longest trainees, training for seven years by the time she went on Finding The Sun. After showing her undying dedication to performing, Mihee would finish the show in first place, becoming the group's center. She would go on to debut solo in 2022 with "ILY2," which was produced by Tyler. Mihee is the first one to defend the members of Sunlite online and soothe any tensions between them and the former members. She is often referred to as "Mother" by their fanbase. She is the CENTER, the MAIN VOCALIST, and the LEAD DANCER of Sunlite.

STAR VORAPAT, 2000 ... Star was simply born to be a star. Noted as having the hardest time on Finding The Sun, being massively disliked by netizens for her "mean look" and "blunt attitude," she would end up finishing in 6th place thanks to international voting. Despite her initial rocky start with netizens, the internet slowly grew fond of her the more she was able to show her talents and her fierce dedication to Sunlite. However, she is a divisive character amongst the fans due to her initiating the feud between Sunlite and former member Mina and refusing to let up or let it go. She recently made her acting debut in Thailand, starring in the GL "Flowers in the Ocean.". She is the MAIN DANCER, the LEAD RAPPER, and the LEAD VOCALIST of Sunlite.

SARAH "SIYU" SONG, 2001 ... Born in sunny California, Sarah, professionally known by her Korean name Siyu, was born to a musical actress mother and a stage director father. With her natural abilities, Siyu began trying out for K-pop companies at the age of 12 with the help of her mother, being accepted by SM, JYP, and Jellyfish Entertainment, but she turned them all down to train under Flowerbank. While on Finding The Sun, Siyu would be a favorite amongst Knetz for her sweet attitude, visuals, and heavenly vocals. She would end up finishing the show in second place. Siyu has the most OSTs under her belt, being more known for her OSTs than being in Sunlite for a while. Though she has over 30 OSTs to her name, she has yet to debut solo, claiming she "hasn't found her sound yet.". Siyu is the MAIN VOCALIST, the VISUAL, and MAKNAE of Sunlite.

KIM "LUCY" SUJI, 1998 ... Lucy was very quiet while in Sunlite. Though noted for having a beautiful voice and ranking fifth on Finding The Sun, her performance left much to be desired, and she was often picked on by netizens online. She was the center of a hate train in 2018 when a clip of her performing went viral for being "lazy" and missing a few of the steps. Though her members, specifically Mihee and Tyler, would defend her online and in person, the hate seemed to follow whatever Lucy would do. She was given the nickname "the prettiest dozen" by alleged fans, even being referred to it at fansigns. Due to this, Lucy would go on hiatus in 2019 for depression and anxiety before completely withdrawing from the group just a few months later. While still under Flowerbank as a songwriter, Lucy has not been seen publicly since she deactivated her Instagram in 2021. She was the group's MAIN VOCALIST and SUB-RAPPER.

LEE MINA, 2001 ... Mina is a very divisive character in the fandom. Called a "firecracker" by her former members, Mina showed a highly skilled level of performing and rapping but had a hard time working with others. She would often argue with leaders of her team on Finding The Sun, finding it difficult to do things that weren't the way she wanted them. Despite this, Mina would end up ranking fourth on the show, earning herself quite a dedicated fanbase. Mina's problematic behavior has been documented from even before the group's debut, a stan account allegedly belonging to Mina would expose her for being a troll and saying very nasty things about various groups, taunting idols for their looks, and spreading malicious rumors about them. Though Flowerbank denied this account belonged to Mina, fans still believe there's enough evidence to connect the account to her as well as various instances of her being just an overall not nice person. Despite these claims, the girls would defend her and would tell people to leave Mina alone. That was until her abrupt departure in 2021 when the liking of shady tweets about her began. Mina has been shady towards Sunlite herself, stating she never liked their music and is glad she's an actress now and not a "cheap idol". Mina was the group's MAIN RAPPER, LEAD DANCER, and SUB-VOCALIST.

why do people dislike geoff johns so much

Multiple reasons depending on which group you belong to:

Snyder cultists blame him for Snyder getting removed from power over the DCEU

John Stewart fans bear a grudge against him for restoring Hal Jordan's status as the preeminent Green Lantern, a position they believe belongs to Stewart because of the DCAU, and that Johns blocked anyone else from trying to raise Stewart's profile

Some people hate him for violating the sacred cow of Watchman by doing a sequel

Others dislike his writing period, the man has attempted to leave his mark on all the major DC IPs and not all of his attempts have been good

My beef with Johns is he keeps screwing with Superman, and that he refuses to accept any blame for his role in making the DCU "darker".

Oh the absolute irony of Johns trying to cast Morrison as the one who keeps fiddling with Superman's continuity in order to make him more palatable. First off this is bullshit because New 52 Clark did have a Legion:

That incarnation of Superman was one of the most down to Earth and friendly takes we've ever gotten. Morrison Superman talked to people as an equal, he didn't do the "hovering in the air while talking down to someone looking up in awe" that was frequently used during the Pre-Flashpoint era. Hell when Morrison did have him struggle with losing his connection to humanity, you know how they resolved that? By emphasizing that it's Clark Kent, not Lois or his parents that is the source of Superman's humanity. That's the way it should be, Superman's moral compass comes from inside himself, not a tenuous external connection to someone else that he needs to maintain or else he'll lose it.

Third what about your Justice League run Johns?

You introduced Superman via him attacking Batman and GL, later write Superman telling them that "no one is like me", and shacking up with Wonder Woman! Of the writers handling Superman during the New 52, it's Johns who frequently wrote him as distant from humanity, struggling to make connections, or fit in. And I say this as someone who overall enjoyed Johns JL run! Where was the mea culpa from Johns over his own role in characterizing Superman that way, in "meddling" with his history, how come he kept his JL run in continuity despite it making no sense without the New 52 rebooting everything? Because Johns doesn't want to ever take the blame, it's Morrison's fault, or Moore, or Didio, or someone else, but never him, never DC's golden boy from 2003-2017, somehow he was blameless in it all.

That's why I want Johns to stay away. Go play with the JSA or the Time Masters or the Legion of Superheroes all you want, but leave Superman alone.

did you notice how people seem to exclude obi-wan from the council even though he is on the council? Like for example when Ashoka was exiled. He didn’t say anything and was unusually quiet during that time. Some fans even say things like “obi wan would never agree to that” or “leave obi wan out of this” do we know what obi-wan’s decision was in her trial? Or is it unknown?

We don’t know for sure how he voted, all we know is that he didn’t ACT to help Ahsoka. and that was the whole point of the character, he’s there to show how compromised the Jedi Order had become.

All we know is what Dave Filoni told us about the arc and, unfortunately, none of it support the fandom idea that Obi-wan fought hard for Ahsoka.

Then at the beginning of the last arc [of Season Five], she basically saves Anakin the way Anakin would’ve always saved her in the past. And Anakin’s unconscious, he’s like, “What happened?” She says, “I saved your life, don’t worry about it.” It’s fun and he laughs about it then, and he’s not embarrassed by it. They’re a team. So we get them to that moment and then we put a ton of pressure on it. 

And through the whole trial, Anakin is the only one that stays 100 percent in her court.

I think Plo Koon stays 75-80 percent of the way in her court because he says, “I don’t believe she could’ve fallen so low.” 

In Obi-Wan we really see the Jedi because he is compromised. Obi-Wan doesn’t believe Ahsoka is guilty of these crimes, but he has a very hard time arguing politically that the Jedi Council shouldn’t do what they do to her. He trusts in the Force, which is what they love to say when they don’t know what they’re doing, and they expel her. He can’t argue the logic. He doesn’t like Tarkin’s logic [but he can’t argue] that they can’t try her within the Jedi because the public, which we show in this episode arc, who are losing faith in the Jedi, would cry foul ball. “How can you put her on trial? Of course you’ll find her innocent. She’s a Jedi and you’re a Jedi.” So they expose themselves, and we see how they’re exposed. 

All of these things that are wrapped up in Ahsoka’s story, which ultimately make her realize what the audience realizes. “I love the Jedi Order. They’re very important to me, I’ve always respected them. But there’s something wrong here, and I need to walk away from it to assess it.” It all feeds into Revenge of the Sith when the chancellor says, “The Jedi have just made an attempt on my life.” When you see these four episodes, I think you have a better understanding of how he gets away with all of that, because you see how compromised the Jedi Council is. And these episodes aren’t just meant to get Ahsoka on her way, but they’re meant to explain in more detail the scene [in Revenge of the Sith] where Yoda, Mace, and Ki-Adi-Mundi are discussing arresting the chancellor, and what a gamble that’s going to be for them. Because you see that to the average Coruscant citizen who’s not impressed with this war or the Jedi anymore, they’ll see it as treason. It’s probably the arc that connects to the movies the most and has the most impact. I think that’s why it works on so many levels for me and is one of my favorite arcs, because it’s such a companion piece to the films. – Dave Filoni

Unfortunately, not every Obi-wan fan is willing to admit he wasn’t 100% perfect, that sometimes he made mistakes. I’ve already talked about this so I won’t get into it down but the gist is that there’s a large part of the fandom that woobyfies Obi-wan. It got to point he’s barely a character. According to them he never makes mistakes, he’s always perfect, always right and, more importantly, always the victim. He exists to suffer everyone’s mistakes and bad decisions, never his own (because he *never* makes bad decisions).

Filoni makes pretty clear that no one, other than Anakin, is 100% on Ahsoka’s side. So the fact Obi-wan looked upset, or that decision to expel wasn’t unanimous, doesn’t mean he fought as hard as he could (or should) for her innocence and freedom. And that’s NOT A BAD THING. This is good writing. It’s building up the situation and the characters for what comes next. 

It’s like the ‘Only a sith deals in absolutes’ line. It’s not bad wrting. It’s GL showing the audience that Obi-wan is not thinking clearly either. that both of them are emotionally distress. it fuels the energy and emotion we see in their fight.

Summary: An analysis of a conversation that happened at Jay Garrick's Honeymoon which is talked about here.

Transcript of Dialogue that is analyzed:

Alan Scott (Green Lantern): ... So Jay, I know there aren't supposed to be any secrets between a man and his wife, but... Al Pratt (Atom): Joan's known who the Flash really is for some time now, hasn't she? Jay Garrick (Flash): Well, yeah. sure. Ted Grant (Wildcat): I dunno, it seems like a... a violation of the who secret identity concept. Jay Garrick (Flash): Are you telling me that none of you have ever considered letting your girlfriends in on the game? Alan Scott (GL): Uh... no... Ted Grant (WC): [guilty facial expression] Al Pratt (Atom): I guess I thought about telling Mary once. Rex Tyler (Hourman): Of course not. Charles McNider (Dr. Mid-Nite): Not me. Let's break this down systematically now- Charles McNider never married his sweetheart (fans thought he was gay but no he just really wanted to protect her from his nightlife and she ended up murdered anyways so how'd that work for him?). Alan has had 2 divorces generally. With DC Pride, his lover Jimmy died in the same train crash that led to him making his lantern and that's a whole separate thing. Alan has 2 kids he didn't know about until they were adults since they were given up for adoption by his ex-wife who was also a supervillain (what is it with Gotham Heroes and marrying villains?). Ted Grant never canonically married, he had a son with a girlfriend, and after his identity was discovered his son was kidnapped and was killed in experimentation by his nemesis. He has another son that he didn't know about until Tom was an adult. Rex stayed married to Wendi but they had a very strained marriage due to the fact that miraclo was addictive and he was very much addicted to the drug. Rex's son eventually would go on to be the second Hourman. Al Pratt married his girlfriend but she was murdered when she was pregnant with their son because his identity was compromised.

At this point in time, none of that has happened. They're all in the prime of their crime-fighting careers. Nothing too major has rocked the boat.

Alan Scott was a closeted gay man who ended up having two failed marriages while being a crime fighter and before he started his career, he lost his lover to a tragedy. To Alan, ever talking about who he really is would be a giant risk because it was the 40s and he was a newsman. He had to stay respectable and he was under scrutiny.

Ted Grant was the Heavy Weight Boxing champion, a known fighter. But he also had a scandal due to other managers paying boxers to throw fights which lead to an innocent man's death causing him to put the costume on in the first place. His name was cleared but he kept suiting up because Alan inspired him. He would already be in the spotlight but he would also be safer to share his identity because he's a known fighter that people knew better than to mess with.

Rex Tyler ran a company and developed miraclo- a drug that gave him super strength for an hour that he could only take once every twenty-four hours. He had an okay reason to not say anything about his identity to try to protect Wendi because he was just some chemist.

Charles McNider was a respected doctor who was blinded in an accident- he could have told his long-time love interest his secret identity because who would ever make the connection between a blind man and a crime fighter? She would have been the safest.

Al Pratt was a college student at the time, he's the youngest person in the room and he admitted to thinking about telling his secret identity to his girlfriend. He also for the longest time didn't have any powers.

This is all very important so hang in there.

Jay unintentionally strikes a nerve because Joan knows who he is. These are all men that Jay trusts with his life and to an extent, Joan's life. They all know his identity, he knows their identities. More importantly, they're friends, and he's genuinely surprised that he's the only one who trusts the person he loves enough with his secret identity. Alan is clearly uncomfortable (on several levels), as are Ted and Charles. Rex and Al handle it the best and drop it, but in the panels, you can see that Ted, Alan, and Charles are the most uncomfortable with what they've just discussed, with Alan actually voicing it with an uncomfortable Hmm. Jay salvages the night by admitting that Alan (and thus everyone else) may be right about keeping their identities secrets but he also admits that Joan figured it out, which likely leaves the others wondering if their girlfriends may have figured out their identities already as well.

Jay Garrick because of his honesty with Joan has the healthiest marriage out of all of the JSA, even when his identity becomes public knowledge, there's never an attempt on Joan's life because she's his wife. And everyone else for one reason or another due to the lack of honesty has either a strained relationship or loses the ones they loved because they didn't share their secret identities.

In other comics, the point is brought up that they wear the masks to protect their loved ones yet their loved ones end up endangered because of the secrets of the masks.

Their reactions to Jay not keeping any secrets from Joan when contrasted with the fact that his honesty meant the longest lasting and healthiest marriage whereas their secrets while wise in the short term ultimately ended in tragedy for all of the other men present is something I think about a lot.

Ok I’ve started seeing the “Jim Hutton was a gold digger”idoits coming out after a rest of the evil soul. Let me now educate these idiots why this makes absolutely zero sense. Below are multiple reasons why that is absolutely impossible to prove. Proving a lie is impossible but proving the truth is very very easy. See below.

-Jim didn’t know who Freddie really was until Live Aid. To him it was a sexy guy from a bar who sang.

-Jim saw Garden Lodge it wasn’t a secret how much money Freddie had. So a gold digger would move right on in.

-He kept an apartment of his own for months while they were dating and if Freddie got up to his tricks as he had with other lovers, Jim had it to go back to. A gold digger wouldn’t keep an apartment if he wasn’t being treated well, he would ignore the behavior and continue sucking money.

-Jim kept his job as a hairdresser when the man he’d been dating seriously for several months could easily afford to “keep” him. A gold digger would stop working and live off his lover much like a lot Freddie’s past lovers did.

-Freddie asked him to move in and Jim hesitated. A true gold digger would jump at the chance. He would also have started flaking off at work staying with his wealthy boyfriend in Germany instead of being at a job. And have zero guilt or need to think about it. A true gold digger would be in that house in record time.

-Jim turned Freddie down cold the first time he asked and didn’t call him after their “one night stand”. After he saw all the nice things Freddie had and the influence he had over people that first night and a gold digger would be calling like crazy and trying to get the rich person’s attention, doesn’t sound to me like he was chomping at the bit to get his hands on Freddie and his money.

-Freddie to the best of his knowledge and ours was well for almost two years when he was seeing Jim. Freddie was a very good judge of character and knew when people used him though as long as he got something out of it he wouldn’t mind for a while. Does anyone really think that Jim an Irish hairdresser from a tiny town could pull the wool over the eyes of one of the worlds biggest rockstars. He’d have to be an Oscar-worthy actor or an amazing con man. Which let’s face it. That’s just fucking stupid. If you are saying that, you are calling Freddie gullible which he never was; not ever.

-when he did move into Garden Lodge he worked religiously in the garden. It wasn’t called Garden Lodge because there were a few leaves to rake it is one of the biggest pieces of land and garden in London that’s residential. Peter Freestone says repeatedly that Jim worked very hard. As does everyone else in Freddie’s life.

-Peter Freestone knew Jim before he ever knew Freddie and was happy to see Freddie with an honest kind man. Doesn’t sound much like a gold digger to me.

-Every friend or ex of Jim Hutton repeatedly defended him to other people when they would gossip or talk bad about him, so that goes to show his character was of a kind person who didn’t breed much resentment in anyone who knew him.

-All of Freddie’s friends have said that Jim was a good guy. Including Terry Giddings Freddie’s driver, Peter Freestone and the NY daughters. Freddie is dead. Jim is dead. Not one of The people that knew Freddie even up until present day have recanted their good words about Jim. They have no reason to keep up a “lie”

-Jim wasn’t interested in the house he was interested in how he was being treated. From the reaction of all the GL residents they had no clue about the money Freddie would leave them until the Will was read after Freddie died. If they did expect something I know it wasn’t as much as they actually got. Especially Jim who was constantly witnessed begging Freddie to stop buying him expensive things. Yeah, that screams gold digger. Pfft!

-Joe Fanelli did not mess around he didn’t care about hurting people’s feelings especially when it came to Freddie. If Jim had been the leech all these people say, then you can bet your ass he would have said something to him especially when Freddie was too weak or ill to defend himself.

-Jim when he did leave GL took the things Freddie had wanted him to have and he wanted a cat! I mean come on a cat doesn’t come with a trust fund ffs. The stuff he did end up with he gave to be sold to raise funds for the MPT such as the Yellow Wembley jacket. Never in his lifetime did you ever see the original lyrics to BoRhap on the auction block. Their whereabouts are still unknown I think. So they weren’t auctioned off for millions.

-Jim submitted an application for a mortgage for the land in Ireland in his own name and didn’t even use Freddie as a reference in the application. Then when he had to ask for the money, Freddie gave him way more than he had asked for. The land was small plot near his mom. A gold digger would’ve bought a farm that was worth a fortune in England. Not a house next to his mom in nowhere Ireland.

-At the bar Jim frequented while he lived with Freddie he had barely mentioned he was dating Freddie and not many believed him until after he died. Freddie was never paraded around to impress anyone or anything that Freddie bought him flaunted.

-He invited his ex boyfriend, who actually DID know who Freddie was, to a party and the fight they had was because of the cold shoulder Freddie gave Jim’s friend. Not because he didn’t buy him anything or refuse to pay attention to him.

-After a vase went missing Jim didn’t tell Freddie that it didn’t matter because he could afford it. He let the fight continue for several weeks as Jim turned the house upside down looking for it. Then finally frustrated had to wait until FREDDIE let it go.

-Jim didn’t seek any media attention and never once complained when he was replaced with Mary at events. A gold digger would want to show off and flaunt their money and their source of money.

-Phoebe was a huge protector of Freddie’s and had said he was not a fan of Paul Prenter due to the way he betrayed Freddie and how he’d seen it coming. Why then would you think that almost a decade after Jim died would he hesitate to tell people that Jim was after Freddie’s money if this was even remotely true?

-Even the other members of Queen recognized how uninterested Jim was in fame and fortune. They also liked Jim and as history has proven if someone was horrible to Freddie they wouldn’t be friends with them or if forced simply polite. They hated Paul Prenter. They really didn’t know much about Winnie and the absolutely hated Bill Reid, yet they were friends with someone who was using Freddie for his money? That doesn’t seem right. Hmm

-Jim lived with his “husband” in that house for almost seven years. It was a home that they made together and all the contributions Jim made were made by him and not bought on Freddie’s dime.

-Jim did not parade around in the expensive cars Freddie owned and when he did get his license he got a VOLVO. Not a Ferrari or Aston Martin which Freddie easily could have afforded.

-Jim was there when Freddie gave him an easy out. I mean if you know that your boyfriend had given you a deadly disease the gold digger would turn and run and ask for money to leave. Including extorting the rich person for money with the threat of the biggest secret Freddie didn’t want anyone to know getting out. Jim stayed when an gold digger would have run! Trust me that is not greed.

-If you have ever cared for anyone who was dying from a very deadly disease you will know it’s basically one of the hardest things that anyone whether they love the ill person or not, could do and it’s very hard on the caregivers. Jim was a huge help to Peter and Joe sacrificing his own comfort many times to be with him.

-Jim could have run when things got hard and asked Freddie for money which Freddie would have given. Instead, Jim watched the man he loved and lived with slowly suffer and wither from being the flamboyant sexy and unbelievably vibrant man he had fallen for, into a shell of himself. AIDS in particular is one of the worst diseases to witness anyone die of including strangers. There’s no way any amount money can make you do that to the very end.

-When Freddie died he wasn’t even that rich (in rich people terms at least) nowhere near what he would be later, and Jim obviously knew nothing about property value in London or how much things cost other than reasonable or expensive. A man out for money driven by greed would know those things. And would have mentioned being left the house n a daily basis for the entire relationship. There is not one mention of Jim ever doing that.

-Jim had just lost the person he saw everyday for seven years and less than a week after the love of his life died before he knew about any money, that he wouldn’t even have access to for a while. Will’s are extremely tricky and nothing is immediate including any money received from the Will. It has to go through a system of court proceedings. He was also devastated at losing the one person he had loved more than anything and he had lived with for almost 7 years. Every inch of that house dripped with memories and those can be either comforting or completely hard to relive. There’s are stages of grief and they take time. One week is not nearly enough to even let the death sink in. Staying and remembering is often the only comfort in those times.

-Mary let them live in the guest house one to which all except Phoebe had never lived in before and were exactly what they are, “guest”quarters. Jim was not a “guest” in Freddie’s life. Also, Guards were posted in the house with explicit instructions to let no one in to any part of the house without either being scheduled or having been granted permission. Including the garden Jim had worked so hard to maintain. What the hell could he have stolen in the garden? Have you ever gardened it’s a LOT of work in heat and snow and takes a lot of physical toil. Jim didn’t care he did the job when instead he could have just lounged around the house being waited on hand and foot. A place you live with someone you love has a lot of importance in the grieving process and it takes they say about half the amount of time that you lived there with the person for you to start to move forward. Half of seven years is 3 and a half YEARS not 1 week or 3 months. You become a widow or widower and report back if I’m wrong.

-when Freddie just died, after the shock and grief of his fans had waned a bit, about a year later, a lot of Queen was only a memory and wasn’t as beloved as they are now. They kind of went dormant. Unless you were a lifelong, die hard fan people were at least a little bit less grieving than they had when Freddie died. So the timing of this gold digger’s book is really odd.

-Jim wrote the book in 1993. Made in Heaven hadn’t come out yet and the Queen renaissance hadn’t even started gaining momentum yet. In its first printing the book didn’t even sell that well. Jim shared all profits with the publisher and Tim Whapshott as well so it wasn’t exactly a cash cow at least not in England. He went on tv for about 10 minutes promoting it and on shows in countries that had a lot more going on than finding things out about a recently dead rockstar, such as civil war in Czechoslovakia for example, so I highly doubt it was selling out in bookstores.

-Until much later close to the end of Jim’s life Freddie’s Legend status hadn’t been cemented quite yet. The band was popular but nowhere close to what they are today. Jim left all profits of the book to the hospital where he was treated for cancer. That doesn’t sound much like the actions of a gold digger.

-When George Michael died he left his boyfriend at the time very little compared to what he actually was worth but way way more than Freddie left Jim. George’s boyfriend published a tell all novel with explicit details of their love life and not one thing was held back and he did it super soon after George’s death even saying George would pay for not leaving him money. Which happened! and for a while the reputation of George Michael was poison for anyone to touch. Things have changed now but that book was as written out of spite. Jim’s was written to cope with grief.

-Jim talked about a few details of his love life with Freddie, but has everyone forgotten that Freddie himself was way more descriptive of sexual things than anything Jim even talked about. Ffs he told the press he had an insatiable sexual appetite and certainly didn’t hide the fact he had “a lot of sex” from the public.

-Yes, it’s horrible to read about the horrible affect that disease had on Freddie’s body and Jim recounted what was truly important not anything super embarrassing. So he wet the bed and he changed his shorts, big deal. That says nothing bad about Freddie! It just proves how awful and horrible the way AIDS kills and in the most painful way. That way anyone who had any doubt that it was horrible didn’t after Jim’s book. Awareness was still a hard topic to get into people’s heads in 1993. It had just started becoming a widely known disease since Magic Johnson announced his positive status in 1992.

-Jim was still upset with the situation and when that book was published, yes admittedly, he sounds a bit bitter in the end because what happened after he lost the love of his life was still a new wound.

-If Jim wanted to make “real” money he could have gone to another more well-known source to write the book and he could have gone into very explicit detail as to how Freddie Mercury was as a lover. But he treated it as respectfully as he could. Leaving it out would have left out a huge part of their relationship. That book wasn’t a enormous money maker until recently. Some of Freddie’s friends have described things about Freddie’s life in much more detail than Jim did. Also, Jim never had anything bad to say about him in any public appearances, he did for documentaries, or any time he was asked for a quote about Freddie. It would be very easy for a gold digger to divulge details that would disparage the legend of Freddie but Jim loved him and he didn’t become a multimillionaire at any point in his life so how exactly is he a gold digger?

-yes he wrote in his book about the house and how he felt it was partly his etc... but you didn’t see him hiring lawyers to take Mary to court or even consulting with one, about that. He took the knocks and tried to move on. A gold digger would fight tooth and nail to get any money they could. There are countless examples of these things

-My last point is kind of a repeat of the beginning of this long ass essay. Jim Hutton died almost a decade ago, Freddie has been gone for almost 30 years. Any gag orders or promises to keep secrets has long since expired. If Jim was truly a gold digging leech someone who knew the both of them first hand would have SAID SOMETHING! The only people who say these things are fans. Anyone who was a friend of Freddie’s has never said anything like that against Jim and all loyalties would have been lost by now. People would have cashed in on the Jim Hutton the digger story, by now. But no one has. There’s only one explanation for the reason it hasn’t happened.

IT WASN’T TRUE!

If the above arguments don’t sway you from your thoughts I have tons more but my fingers are about to fall off typing this. Not to mention if you aren’t a little bit more convinced that theirs was a beautiful love story and not a gold digger taking advantage of a sick man then you are too stupid for me to waste my time. I have first hand witness accounts of all of the points I made above. It takes less evidence to sentence someone to the death penalty than I have to prove Jim Hutton was just a good guy who wasn’t after Freddie’s money! So to quote another person who addresses this exact issue well. “Fuck off!” and go learn how to read. You obviously haven’t yet or you would have found out these exact things for yourself.

(Y/N)'s POV "Green Lantern. What are you doing here?” Robin asked as my Dad and I entered through the Zeta tube,

“Team, this is my daughter" Dad introduced me to the mini-leaguers,

"Hi" I smile,

"Another girl!" Martian Manhunter's niece squeal as she came over to me, "Hi. I'm Miss Martian but you can call me M'Gann" she introduced,

"Well hello beautiful" Kid-flash, aka Wally West said as he stood in front of me,

"Hello Wally" I smiled,

"I assume you'll all make her feel welcome and make her feel a part of the team" Dad said, they all nodded

"You don't need to worry GL, I'll make her feel right at home" Wally reassured as he wrapped an arm around my shoulder,

"I'm sure you will Kid. I'll see you later" he said leaving through the zeta tube, I sighed and removed my ring revealing my identity,

"My name is (Y/N)" I introduced,

"You trust us?" Aqua lad asked as they all were shocked, I nodded

"I know all of your identities and backgrounds, yes even yours Robin. And the ring takes a lot out of me" I explain, they hummed

"Plus, I don't actually look like this" I say mentioning myself, they all raised an eyebrow

"Then what do you look like?" Robin asked,

"Classified...For now" I smirked,

"No matter beautiful. I'll show you around" Wally flirted,

"Aw how sweet" I smiled as he wrapped an arm around my waist,

"However, I think I'll have Artemis and M'Gann show me around" I say getting from his hold and in between the two girls, "Us girls should stick together after all" I winked as I placed a hand on each of their shoulders, M'Gann smiled and Artemis smirked,

"I like you. Come on" She chuckled as they guided me through the mountain.

“Alright. Can someone explain to me who this wizard wannabe is?” I asked as I shielded the team, minus Robin, and Mr. Nelson from his magic,

“She doesn’t know who I am?! Everyone knows who I am!” He whined stopping his attack, I raised an eyebrow and dropped the shield

“You must not be that much of a problem if the Lantern Corps haven’t heard of you” I commented as a small smirk pulled at my lips,

“How dare you! I’m Klarion! Lord of Chaos!” He yelled as he stomped his feet,

“Awh has baby Klarion lost his dummy” I teased as I pouted,

“Lantern. This is no place for you teasing” Kaldur scolded, I shrugged before bubbling us again as Klarion attacked again,

“I want that helmet!” He yelled,

“Guys. We’ve got company” Artemis informed us as another man approached us,

“Klarion. I have the helmet” He said, I narrowed my eyes as Klarion stopped and smiled

“Give” He demanded, I dropped the bubble and flew over taking the helmet off them,

“Argh! I’ve had enough of you girl!” Klarion screamed,

“Artemis!” I yelled before throwing the helmet to her as Klarion shot some magic at me, it hit me sending me on to the floor,

“Lantern!” The team yelled, I groaned as I propped myself up on my arms,

“No, don’t lose it now” I muttered, Klarion chuckled as he came over to me,

“What’s wrong girly? Not strong enough?” He tormented, I glared at him, his eyes widened in fear, “What? That’s impossible! You can only be one colour!” he shrieked as he back away,

“Not with me” I retort as a large red hand slammed him into a wall as I got up, I flew over to Wally and Mr. Nelson just as Mr. Nelson was hit with some magic,

“Come on old man. Don’t give up on us now” I say,

“Just give me the helmet and all can be done” Klarion called over, then we teleport to the roof with a bubble around us, I raised an eyebrow

“How are you more than one Lantern colour?” Wally questioned,

“Not now” I replied,

“No, now” Wally demanded, I grabbing him by the collar of his shirt,

“The old man’s just died protecting us. So, use that brain of yours and do something!” I snapped throwing him on the ground, I noticed the bubble breaking so I stood in front of Wally and the helmet, the bubble broke making Klarion laugh before send a large force of magic towards us, I threw up a shield which broke in a matter of seconds making it hit me and knock me unconscious.

Superboy’s POV

Doctor Fate came back with Lantern unconscious in his arms, my eyes widened as I went over to them and took her in my arms, Doctor Fate removed the helmet revealing Wally,

“Now what?” I asked,

“I keep the helmet safe” Wally answered, I raised an eyebrow as Artemis scoffed,

“I meant about him” I reply mentioning the other criminal,

“You look after that. You can barely look after yourself” Artemis tormented as we left the building,

“(Y/N)?” Green Lantern called over as he noticed her form in my arms, “What happened?” he questioned as he checked over her,

“Nothing. I was sleeping” She growled as she got out of my arms,

“Don’t get snappy with me young lady. I can easily remove your rights as a Green Lantern” He threatened making me raise an eyebrow,

“Try it old man. It won’t end well” She hissed before stalking off to the bioship, I raised an eyebrow and followed, boarding the ship to get back to the mountain.

We arrived back at the mountain and headed towards the main room,

“So, you want to explain the whole changing colour thing?” Wally snapped, (Y/N) sighed removing the ring

“I would rather explain when the whole team’s here, so I don’t have to explain things twice” She replied,

“Well, the whole team’s here now. What are you explaining?” Robin asked as he made his presence known,

“She’s not a Green Lantern” Wally informed,

“What?” Robin questioned, clearly confused as the rest of us

“Yeah. She turned into a Red Lantern while we were against Witch-boy” M’Gann explained,

“If you all shut up, I would explain” (Y/N) snapped gaining everyone’s attention, she sighed, “You’re right. I’m not a Green Lantern. I’m a Phantom Lantern. That means I have access to all of the different corps powers. I was granted this ring because I had shown that I had great control over my emotions and had good intentions” She explained, we all stood in our places staring at her, “If you don’t want me on the team, I’ll understand” She muttered, lowering her head avoiding everyone’s gazes

“What are the different corps?” Kaldur asked, she looked up, raising an eyebrow

“Well the Black corps are fueled by death. Red Lanterns draw on rage. Orange Lanterns draw on greed. Sinestro Lanterns, aka Yellow Lanterns, draw on fear. Green Lanterns draw on willpower. Blue Lanterns draw on hope. Indigo Lanterns draw on compassion. Star Sapphires, aka Violet Lanterns, draw on love. White Lanterns use life” She explained,

“Nine corps? That’s why the ring takes a lot out of you, isn’t it?” I asked, she nodded giving a small smile.

“Hey loser!” A cheerleader called over making me stop as she and her posse approached me, I noticed M’Gann within the crowd in her human disguise, I hummed, “What do you call this grade?” The squad leader asked as she dangled a piece of paper in front of me with a large red ‘C+’ in the top right corner,

“A pass” I replied making her face turn sour before pushing me into the lockers, I noticed M’Gann wince,

“A pass? Don’t get cocky with me, Nerd. If my parent’s are going to pay for me to go to the best university in the country, then I need to be getting ‘B’s at the least!” She snapped pinning me by the throat making me drop the folder I was carrying, I remained quiet making her scoff and throw me to the floor, “What? Nothing to say?” she spat,

“Hey! Leave her alone!” A male voice called out to her, I looked in the direction it came from to see Connor stalking down the hall towards us, “Hey babe” M’Gann smiled as she approached him,

“Megan, love. Please tell your ‘babe’ to stay out of my business” The leader ordered,

“No one orders me around. So, leave her alone. And get on with your cheer leading” Connor stated,

She scoffed rolling her eyes, “Let’s go girls. You got lucky this time” She hissed before leading the posse, including M’Gann away, I narrowed my eyes at their retreating figures before a hand came into my view, I looked up to see Connor with a small smile, I took his hand and he pulled me to my feet then handed me my folder,

“Thanks” I mumbled, pulling up my bag straps, he nodded

“What was she after anyways?” He questioned,

“I didn’t get the grade she wanted in her homework” I answered avoiding his stare, he hummed,

“Connor Kent” he introduced, I looked towards him to see him extending his hand towards me,

“(Y/N) (L/N)” I introduced shaking his hand.

“Out of all the places. This is the worse one” I commented as I created a small mug of hot chocolate,

“Not a fan of the cold?” Artemis asked as she approached me, I shook my head,

“Hate it. With a passion” I replied before I heard the ice cracking as Artemis’ eyes widened, she pushed me out of the way as she went to shoot the alien device but was vaporised right in front of me.

“Artemis!” M’Gann screamed as my brain register what just happened, I growled getting up, forging a large red sledge-hammer and letting out a yell as I hit the alien device out of the ice,

“Lantern! Get back to the ship!” Kaldur ordered as I shielded myself from its blast, I sighed and ran to the bio-ship, I got inside and was met by M’Gann wailing and Wally throwing a tantrum,

“Shut up!” I snapped as I attempted to get my rage under control,

“Shut up? Our friends have just died!” M’Gann argued as she squared up to me,

“Exactly. That’s why we have to find wherever these things are coming from and blow it up” I demanded as I looked around at the team, she scoffed

“Do you not care?!” She screamed, my eyes snapped back to her as I back her against a wall,

“If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t be here” I sneered,

“Artemis is dead! Because of you!” She retorted and jumped as I punched the wall beside her head,

“You think I don’t know that? I would have been more than happy to be vaporised than spend another moment being judged by you” I growled as I removed my hand and walked to the far end of the ship, away from everyone.

Connor’s POV

I groaned as we all came out of the simulation, I was met by Wolf making me smile slightly as I stroked him,

“(Y/N)?” Artemis questioned gaining my attention, (Y/N) was still unconscious on the table,

“(Y/N)?” Green Lantern repeated as he approached her,

“Don’t wake her. It’ll cause much more damage” Martian Manhunter ordered,

“Why isn’t she waking up?!” Green Lantern snapped,

“Her ring” I muttered,

“What?” He asked as everyone’s head turned to me, I sighed,

“Her ring. It’s a phantom one, it allows her access to all the lantern corps” I informed him, his face fell

“Why didn’t she tell me?” he muttered, I shrugged

“She’s a Black Lantern. That’s the one fueled by death. She died beside me and Wally” Robin stated,

“How do we get her out then?” Kaldur asked as we all formed a group around her,

“You’ll be doing nothing. This is our fault. We’ll fix it” Batman demanded as the rest of the league nodded, “Send us in first” he ordered Martian Manhunter as he, Wonder Woman and Superman prepared themselves.

After a couple hours and many failed attempts, I sighed as the Green Lanterns came out of the simulation,

“How is she so strong?” They questioned,

“That’s it. Send me in” I snap standing up abruptly,

“Connor, don’t. You’ve seen how easily she’s beaten the league” M’Gann said as she stood up,

“They’ve fought her. She needs talking to” I retort as I prepared myself,

“Are you certain about this Superboy?” Martian Manhunter asked as he appeared above me, I nodded, and I was placed into the simulation,

I saw (Y/N) in a black version of her usual suit as destruction and the corpses of the league surrounded her,

“(Y/N)” I called over gaining her attention, her head snapped in my direction as she prepared herself for a fight but dropped it,

“Connor…” She trailed off, looking at her surroundings, “What’s happening?” She asked, I slowly approached her

“The League put us in a simulation, that was meant to fail. When we died, we were brought back into the real world, but your ring kept you here” I informed,

“None of this is real? I haven’t killed the Justice League?” She questioned, I nodded, she looked at her ring and fiddled with it before sighing and removing it.

(Y/N)’s POV

I gasped as I sat up,

“(Y/N)!” Artemis yelled as she tackled me with a hug, which was shortly joined by Wally, Robin, Kaldur and M’Gann, I sighed in relief as I returned the hug the best I could, we broke a part and I stood up,

“Lantern. I would like to apologise on behalf of the whole league” Batman said as he approached me with Dad, Superman and Wonder Woman at his sides,

“Apologise? Do you even know the danger you placed us all in?! What went through your head to think that placing teenagers in a simulation that would be emotionally straining!” I snapped,

“(Y/N), if I knew about-”

“Don’t even give me that crap! If you knew about my abilities, you wouldn’t have placed me in the simulation, but you would have done for the others!” I snapped cutting Dad off,

“Lantern-”

“Shut up! I quit!” I yelled as I headed towards the zeta-tube,

“Quit? You can’t abandon your duties as a Lantern! And if you do then you’ll still have me reminding you” Dad called after me making me stop and turn to them,

“You’re more stupid than I thought if you think I going to still with you after this” I sneered making his face drop, I glanced towards the team, “It was fun while it lasted” I say before leaving.

“Hey!” The usual cheerleader snapped as she slammed me against the lockers, “Changing your appearance, isn’t going to stop us knowing that you’re a nerd!” She commented, I raised an eyebrow

“And how are you sure that it wasn’t the nerd appearance hiding what I really am?” I asked as I pushed her backwards, her eyes widened as she backed away from me into the group of jocks,

“Are you okay?” One of them asked her, she shook her head and pointed at me, they all turned to look at me,

“What have you done to her?” Another asked as he squared up to me,

“I stood up for myself” I answered as I squared up to him, his face turned dark before swinging for me, I blocked it and raised an eyebrow at him, “I’m curious, what was you planning after you hit me?” I asked as a smirk pulled at my lips, he growled shoving me backwards as I was surrounded by the group of jocks, I hummed “Before we start. Would anyone like to leave?” I questioned none of them moved so I got myself into my fighting stance.

Connor’s POV

I heard cheering and gasps as I made my way to my locker making me raise an eyebrow and pick up my speed, I was greeted by a large crowd, I pushed my way through and came to the centre where (Y/N) was fighting the football captain, with blood running down the side of her face, while the rest of the football team was lying on the floor unconscious,

“(Y/N), stop!” I demanded as I restrained her from attacking the beaten and bruised male,

“No! Let me go!” She growled as she fought against my grip,

“Ha! Can’t even finish what you’ve started without your boyfriend getting involved!” He scoffed, (Y/N) stopped momentarily and somehow managed to break free of my grip, she tackled him to the ground,

“He’s not my boyfriend” She snarled giving him a punch to the face for every word, which caused him to go unconscious, she took a deep breath and stood up, “Anyone else?!” She asked looking at the crowd, no one moved so she picked up her bag and barged her way through the crowd,

“(Y/N) wait!” I called after her but was stopped by M’Gann pulling my arm, “What?” I asked,

“That was Lantern” She whispered, I raised an eyebrow

“What makes you assume that? We haven’t seen her in five months” I questioned,

“Her fighting style, it was an exact replica of Lantern’s. And she has the same name” She explained, I narrowed my eyes at her,

“You went into her mind, didn’t you?” I asked, she avoided my gaze, “Didn’t you?!” I repeated raising my voice a little, she winced and nodded

“I had to make sure I was correct” She reasoned, I shook my head

“You knew not do so! (Y/N) made it pretty clear that she doesn’t want any of us interfering with her citizen life” I snapped,

“Connor, I know but-”

“But nothing! I’m going to go find her” I yell cutting her off and leaving to find (Y/N), I found her on the bleachers,

“What do you want Connor?” She asked looking in my direction,

“I came to check on you” I answered sitting next to her, she rolled my eyes

“Why would you do that? You should be helping the others” She retorted, I sighed

“(Y/N), you’re bleeding, and bad” I stated as I moved her hair from her bloody face, she swatted my hand away,

“I’m fine. Now tell me what’s on your mind, Kent” She demanded making my eyes widen,

“I know you’re Lantern” I replied, she sighed tilting her head backwards,

“Took you long enough. Wait, let me guess. M’Gann told you after she went into my mind” she commented, I slowly nodded

“You knew she went through your mind?” I asked, she chuckled

“She made her presence known” she answered before standing up, “Well, I best get going” She announced,

“Going? Go where?” I asked standing up abruptly, blocking her path, she sighed,

“Don’t worry Connor, this isn’t the last you’ve seen of me” She said giving a small sad smile, “You’re also being manipulated by M’Gann” She informed before walking off,

“What?! Hey! You can’t just say that and leave!” I yell chasing her, “(Y/N)! Answer me!” I demanded, she stopped momentarily turning slightly,

“Goodbye Connor” She replied before continuing her way.

(Y/N)’s POV

“Phantom!” Angela yelled as she tackled me with a hug, I sighed unlatching her from me,

“What have I told you about yelling that name in public Ang?” I asked as I folded my arms and leaned against the wall, she sighed

“Don’t. But what else am I meant to call you? I don’t know your real name” she argued,

“That’s for the better. Trust me” I retort, a chuckle came from behind us,

“You say that every time, P. You’re gonna have to tell us eventually” Jesse commented, I turned slightly to the two males,

“Yeah, that’ll be when I leave” I reply,

“Babe!” Angela cheered as she leaped into Gerald’s arms, I rolled my eyes,

“Ang, you get any news?” I asked,

“Hm? Oh, yeah. There’s one going down tonight” She answered,

“Very well” I hummed,

“Let’s hope the police don’t bust it before we’ve had our fun” Gerald commented, Jesse nodded in agreement.

“You know the drill” I state as we entered the party, they all nodded, and we went our separate ways, Gerald and Angela headed to the dance floor, Jesse headed towards the bar and I was on the stairs/balcony getting a good vantage point on everyone,

‘Blonde girl stumbling with brunet male, heading towards you Jesse’ Angela said through the mind link,

‘I got them doll’ Jesse replied,

‘Keep the pet names to yourself’ Gerald snarled,

‘Awh, sweetheart. Are you getting jealous?’ Jesse taunted,

‘I’m not my brother! Therefore, I’m not your sweetheart!’ Gerald snapped,

‘That was uncalled for!’ Jesse retorted,

‘Enough! Focus on the task at hand’ I ordered,

‘Sorry, Phantom’ They both replied, I raised an eyebrow as a hooded figure made his way towards Angela and Gerald, I was then distracted by two males ‘escorting’ a female to one of the rooms,

‘Angela. I need a hand with this one’ I requested, she made her way up to me,

“Which room?” She asked as I lead her in the same direction as the males,

“This one” I answered as I kicked the door opened seeing the two males unbuckling their belts,

“What the-?” They were cut off as Angela and I pulled them away from the obviously drugged female and on to the floor, Angela comforted the now crying female as I beat the crap out of the two males,

“Don’t ever think it’s okay to rape” I snarled as I straightened my outfit, I turned to Angela and went to say something but was cut off by a scream, Angela’s eyes widened as she rushed out, I followed her we stopped at the balcony and saw that everyone was leaving as the hooded figure stood over Gerald with a katana,

“Gerald!” Angela screamed as ran down to them,

“Angela no!” I yelled after her, I tackled her to the ground as the hooded figured shot an arrow at her from the crossbow they were now holding as well,

“Let me go! Gerald!” She cried, I watched the hooded figure leave so I let go of Angela who immediately rushed to Gerald’s side, closely followed by myself and Jesse,

“What the hell happened?” Jesse asked,

“Where the hell were you?! He needed your help!” Angela yelled squaring up to him before blue lights appeared,

“Sh*t the cops. You two go. I’ll get Gerald safe and given some medical attention” Jesse ordered, I nodded and pulled Angela out of the building and away from the cops.

I arrived at the Shulkin’s clan mansion, aka Gerald’s house, along with Angela and her older brother Jack, Gerald had to become part cyborg to sustain the injuries he had received, we approached his older brother, Hans, who had been the hooded figure attacker,

“What do you want?” He sneered looking us in disgust, Angela said nothing but gave him a large smack across his face leaving a hand print, he raised his arm to hit back but I caught it,

“Think very carefully of your actions. You deserved that smack because you almost murdered your brother” I warned as I stared at him,

“Almost?” Hans questioned pulling his hand from my grip, a chuckle came from behind us making us turn to see Gabe, Jesse’s older brother,

“Yes almost” he smirked,

“What have you done?” Jack demanded as he stood in front of Angela, Gabe shrugged and chuckled before evaporating into his smoke and leaving, “Son of a-Come on lets go” Jack ordered as he pulled out his gun and lead us out of the grounds, our exit was blocked by Gabe, who was resting a shotgun on his shoulder and a smirk plastered on his face, Jesse, who had his hat tilted forward showing one red eye as he held his pistol with a cigar in his mouth, and Gerald, with glowing red eyes and Katana in the holder on his back,

“Gerald” Angela said as she reached out for him only to be held back by me as Jack held a protective arm in front of her,

“Stay back” Jack demanded which made Gabe’s smirk widen, Angela freed herself and ran up to Gerald hitting his chest as she cried, she stopped and looked down to see that Gerald had impaled her with his katana,

“Angela!” Jack yelled, as she staggered backwards into his arms, I stared at Angela before growling and attempted to get the three of them but somehow Jack was managing to hold me back,

“Jesse finished them off” Gabe ordered, Jesse nodded

“With pleasure” He replied, my eyes widened as I ripped my ring that was on a chain around my neck and put it on before shielding the three of us from his ‘dead-eye’ shot, I un-bubbled us and hovered in front of them,

“Get Angela some medical attention” I ordered, Jack nodded and carried his sister to safety, Gabe began laughing

“You’re a Red Lantern?! This is why you couldn’t tell anyone your name?!” He howled, I raised an eyebrow

“I’m not just a Red Lantern” I corrected as I changed into a White Lantern, making their eyes widen “And I’m going to enjoy kicking your arses” I smirked.

I was sat at Angela’s hospital bed as she laid in a coma, Jack sat in the chair opposite me and was currently asleep, I sighed as I shifted slightly before Angela stirred, I sat up straight raising an eyebrow,

“She must have sensed you come in” I commented turning to see Gerald, he stood at the foot of her bed with wide eyes,

“I…I did this” he muttered, I stood up and went over to him,

“You did but it isn’t your fault, it’s whoever was mind controlling you alongside Jesse and Gabe” I reassured placing a hand on his shoulder, a small groan came from Angela making me turn to her

“Gerald…” She mumbled, a smile pulled at my lips before nudging Gerald towards my seat.

‘Think we can get through this without drama?’ Jesse asked making me roll my eyes,

‘Ha! No way’ Gerald replied,

‘I think tonight could be our night’ Angela commented, I raised an eyebrow as my eyes drifted across the crowd of drunk adolescences, my breath caught in the back of my throat when I came across a familiar face,

‘No way…’ I thought,

‘Hm? What’s up, Phantom?’ Angela asked, I turned my back on the balcony railing and sighed,

‘Nothing’ I answered,

‘If you say so…’ She trailed off,

‘Phantom, there’s a dude here looking for you. Black hair, blue eyes’ Jesse informed,

‘What does he want?’ I asked,

‘Dunno, he didn’t say’ he answered,

‘He says he’s an old friend and wants to talk’ Mercy answered, I turned back around to see him talking to Gerald and Angela,

‘Tell him I’m not here’ I ordered,

‘Erm…he says he knows you’re here’ Gerald replied,

‘Of course, he does. Tell him I’ll meet him out front’ I sighed,

‘Wait, you know the guy?!’ Jesse exclaimed,

‘Yeah’ I answered as I made my way outside, I took a deep breath as I approached him,

“Y’know when I said we’ll meet again, I meant that I’d find you” I say announcing my presence to him, he turned around and gave a small smile,

“It’s good to see you too (Y/N)” Connor said as he approach me, I hummed

“Why are you here Connor?” I asked,

“I’ve been trying to find you for the past 7 years” He stated, I folded my arms sighing, “And you’ve been in Gotham the whole time?” He commented letting out a breathless laugh,

“I’ve been in Gotham for the past year. I’ve been here and there for the other 6” I retort,

“(Y/N), why’d you leave in the first place?” He asked, I raised an eyebrow scoffing,

“Are you serious? I left because the league used the team” I snapped,

“It’s changed, Nightwing and Aqua-lad call the shots now. We’re our own team. The league don’t interfere anymore” He argued,

“I don’t care!” I yelled, I sighed running a hand through my hair, “If you’re here to get me to come back you might as well leave” I say, he dropped his head

“(Y/N)…please. Everyone misses you” He pleaded, I raised an eyebrow

“No, they don’t. M’Gann hated me be-You know what I’m surprised if that she’s not here with you” I say,

“We’re no longer together. She’s with Lagoon-boy” He informed,

“Finally realise that she was manipulating you?” I asked, he nodded slowly, “Oh…That still doesn’t change my mind Connor” I say,

“(Y/N) please. I need you” He pleaded again but that pulled at my heart, “It hasn’t felt the same since you left. It’s like there’s a hole” He continued,

“Connor…I can’t…I can’t leave my group here” I sighed,

“Yes, you can!” I heard Angela yell making me look over to them with a disapproving look,

‘Listening on my conversations now?’ I questioned,

‘(Y/N), you’ve helped us all. So, let us help you. You can go back wherever you came from and we’ll continue the work that you started’ Angela bargained,

‘Are you all sure? I’ll still make visits’ I say,

The three of them laughed,

‘You bet partner’ Jesse confirmed,

‘I agree’ Gerald reassured,

‘Of course! And you can only make visits if you bring your boyfriend along’ She taunted,

‘Angela! He’s not my boyfriend’ I defended,

‘Oh, come on. It’s obvious you have buried feelings for him’ She retorted, I sighed shaking my head as I looked back at Connor, who had hope written all over his face,

“Fine. I’ll come back” I say, a smile burst onto his face as he tackled me with a hug, I lost my balance for a few seconds but returned it, as a small smile made its way to my face.

I was stood in the launch bay alongside a couple other members of the team, waiting for Connor to arrive back after the mission, the bioship landed, and members began to file out, M’Gann exited shortly followed by Connor making me smile, while she was greeted by Lagoon-boy, I ran past them, tackling Connor with a hug, I let out a small laugh as he spun me around,

“I wasn’t gone for that long” He commented setting me down,

“What can I say? It was boring without you” I smiled, he returned it before his eyes drifted to Lagoon-boy and M’Gann kissing, I sighed as I turned his gaze to me, I slowly made my way for his lips, nervous of the consequences, he closed the distance between us making me smile as I wrapped my arms around his neck pulling him closer as his hands were on my hips, ensuring that there were no space between our bodies, we pulled away out of breath and smiled at each other,

“Hallelujah!” Dick cheered making us jump apart, “That tensions been there forever!” He commented.

I did a post on BL and GL, so here’s the one on Indigo Spell.

Me while rereading BL: constantly bitching about Sydrian

I am so sorry y’all. I will try to tone it down.

Somehow I completely forgot the first three or so chapters that were devoted to Sonya and Mikhail’s wedding... it was literally like I’d never read them before. But yay for the brief Romitri appearance! Also, still side-eyeing that Emily Mastrano wasn’t at Sonya’s wedding and Sydney couldn’t get a quick picture to bring back to Jill :(

I’m going to complain about timelines again: so end of last book they’re considering “hey what’s Thanksgiving going to be like for us” and then that’s completely skipped over and it’s like “hey what’s Christmas going to be like for us”... and I’m just ??? I guess no answers on the Thanksgiving front... also there wasn’t a single appearance by Clarence Donahue in this one. Which is really just telling about how much Sydney disappears from involvement with Jill except where it relates to Adrian. She’s going all over southern CA (apparently she makes at least four 4-hr long round trips in her investigating), and no mention is made of “hey, they now have another car that can take Jill to get her weekly blood”? Am I really supposed to buy that Sydney is able to even complete her homework at this point? Meanwhile the Angeline cheating timeline is completely bizarre... like we hear Angeline hit Trey on the head with a book, the next day (maybe two later) Eddie’s like “Angeline’s been going to all the basketball games” (despite the implication that she didn’t start until after she developed a crush on Trey), and I’m really just lost. And Sydney’s leaving the school campus everyday on covert missions and really just has absolute run of the place.

That being said, this book does have some of my favorite jokes- the Alpha Yam Epsilon frat and the shirts Adrian made for him and Sydney (with his skeleton pirate making a comeback, and the introduction of the fiery heart). Hopper the bunny, then Calistana (I maintain, though, that Ivashkinator is a weaksauce car name for the Mustang- granted, Sydney had a lot of stuff on her plate). The “Pie and Stuff” restaurant... yum. And it’s a wealth for fan-artists, I would think, with both their shirts and then Sydney’s new cross and the protection amulets Jackie makes her. Also, for all that we never get real Sydney & Lissa interactions, Richelle really did make them similar and Hopper is only a further demonstration of that, associating both characters with dragons (though honestly Jackie was out of line having Sydney summon a demon... she’s lucky Hopper’s the cutest).

I was reminded that I really don’t like Wolfe (the whole “wasn’t his eyepatch over the other eye last time” gimmick and his fake stories, and even though Richelle hasn’t done “pair the spares” with him and Jackie yet, I remember it’s coming. This is the point in the books where it started taking gimmicks and fun-having a bit too far... like Legends or Legacies, where I wish Richelle’s editors had reined it in a bit. Also, frustration central for me: I don’t particularly like Marcus or Ian (who I feel like definitely gets character-assassinated after his appearance in LS). But Sydney (and Jill too) and the absolute disdain for these guys... while she’s fallen head over heels for Adrian who is just as obnoxious/flippant/passive/objectifying as either of them... it floors me. And then Sydney gets her tattoo “broken” and she immediately, no thoughts, head empty, calls Stanton to throw an ill-advised hissy fit (and the framing that she primarily cares about Jill’s safety for Adrian’s sake that is thrown in there)... it assassinates the character I started falling for in Blood Promise.

It doesn’t help that Alicia is the most transparent “surprise!” villain in either series. Granted, I knew it was coming, because that part I did remember, but when Sydney at the end is like “we were so careless, thinking Veronica was working alone”: YES YOU WERE! Adrian gave her your actual number and she got his car license plate. You went back to the inn, let your protection amulet slip to have sexy times, and then lost your cross there (after which you immediately had a menacing dream, after losing the most personal possession you had)... the main characters come off as Daft Central. Those main characters being Sydrian and Jackie, with disappointingly little from anyone else, except for Jill occasionally being a brat (much as I normally love her) over Sydney rejecting Adrian.

This one has occasional pages I love, but most of it just frustrates me...

Note about ages if they adapt this series, since I completely forgot to address it in the last one: honestly, just let Sydney be one of the dorm monitors as casually mentioned in GL; enroll her at Carlton under the cover of a part-time student finishing an education degree (history-centric), and Amberwood is her “practicum” type experience; meanwhile she has to do an independent history study with Terwillinger, who is faculty at both Amberwood and Carlton already; instead of rooming with Jill in the first book, Jill is actually roomed with Kristin and Julia, but because of her nightmares, Sydney often ends up letting Jill stay in her room; I have more thoughts about the Sydney actually finally getting to be a college student, but it not being “real” or her desired experience... but I’m not going to go into it here- the major point is she already acts like an adult supervisor to all the other characters, so just admit it rather than “18 yr old goes to high school” (especially when she’d probably end up older in the show and it’s then creepy that she’s going out with Brayden)

Why is it so cold?

One off Cullen POV fan fic:  Pre Cullen X Annabel Trevelyan relationship, SFW, fluff, mild angst, romance, and light comedy all in one!

Haven has fallen, the Herald has made it to the camp but is riddled with fever. Cullen watches over her as she rests, but as the fever takes hold he gets a glimpse of her past and his own feelings in the process.

The wind is cold and bitter. It whips through layers to chill everyone to the bone as it has done relentlessly for days. Standing with one hand resting on his sword hilt Cullen withstands another blast which stings his ears and bites at his nose. Despite how frozen and weary he feels, his lips twitch in a tiny smile at the scene before him.

The Herald of Andraste was here, in a make shift bed, being cared for by the revered mother and people he considered friends. They had made it out of Haven, she, had made it out of Haven.

“Cullen, can I have a word, please?” asks the Herald.

His attention snaps back and he nods stepping closer. “Of course.”

Annabel strains to sit up and apparently decides to rest propped up on her elbows instead, her face flushed with effort. “A word, alone?”

He feels a lump catch in his throat. What could she possibly have to say to him that the others couldn’t hear? Dumbfounded he nods. “Erm, yes, of course.”

The advisors and Mother Gisele exchange glances with each other, then him before reluctantly dispersing. Once seemingly out of ear shot Annabel looks up at him.

“I’m tired,” she states begrudgingly her gaze dropping. Puzzled he finds himself frowning in response. He thought that much was obvious? She’d survived meeting their enemy, and his ‘dragon’, fallen down a mountain, trudged through the snow and collapsed at their camp. And yet she was reluctant to admit she was tired?

“You’re going to think I’m weak, or childish but…Will you stay with me? Stay up with me…Not leave I mean?”

He can feel her bright eyes searching his and can almost see a glitter of hope in them. However, he’s still slightly taken a back, surely Mother Gisele or a healer would be a more suitable option? 

He’s about to voice his opinion but is drawn to whatever glimmers in those eyes. How could he refuse such a simple request, when she had done so much? Been through so much. “Erm…of course…” 

“Thank you,” she sighs collapsing back. Clearly the potent medication the healer has given is starting to take effect as her eyes struggle to remain open and her head sloshes to one side. “It’s silly, I know…” she yawns. “I’m sorry, I don’t want you to feel you have to, but…” Dragging her eyes open she looks back up at him.

“It’s fine, my lady,” Cullen nods and decides to sit. It was going to be a long night, but at least she was here, she was safe and so were a great deal many more than he’d even hoped for.

She snorts a derogatory laugh at him. “How many times?…It’s just Annabel…”

A half smirk plays on his lips as he leans forward. There is no ‘just’ about her. He goes to reply but she’s already fallen asleep, head resting to face him with pale lips slightly parted. He notes that this is the most peaceful he’s ever seen her. She’s normally glowing with energy, bouncing on the balls of her feet, radiating warmth and humour, greeting him with the widest smile he’s ever known…

For her to even ask him to stay is distinctly out of character, she always had such a carefree manner, to see her worried is disturbing.

Disturbing but not unwarranted. The healers had done their best and she was under the influence of every healing herb they had but still he had been warned that a fever ran deep. There was a chance it would take hold, worsen in the night, a chance they might lose her still.

Perching by her side he did his best to not contemplate that, even though it gnawed at the back of his mind. She was so bright, illumining everything and everyone around her. To lose her…no he mustn’t dwell on such things. She was a fighter, a warrior, a survivor, she would be fine, whatever fire burned inside was too brazen to be extinguished by the cold.

Covered in a film of sweat Annabel awoke and huffed, tossed and promptly attempted to sit up. Cullen stirred from his doze as she slumped back onto her damp pillow with hair clinging to her face and concern to his. 

When she tossed her again, growing fretful, he placed a cold cloth to her forehead as he’d been instructed. He still wasn’t sure why she’d insisted he’d stay, he’d looked after his fair share of ill comrades over the years but was not qualified to provide any actual help. Thankfully Mother Gisele slept close by and her presence reassured him as he softly mopped the sweat from Annabel’s brow.

“Bryan?” Annabel’s voice was soft, almost lost on the wind but he caught it.

“Hm? No…you’re sleeping,” he replies gently taking away the cloth that had disturbed her.

“Like Mother?”

He furrows his brows. “Erm…I don’t…” he looks around. Did she mean the revered mother? It’s late and everyone is fast asleep, other than some distant snoring the camp is deathly quiet. Was it the fever talking? “Get some rest,” he whispers giving her arm a little squeeze then withdrawing.

“Don’t leave,” her face scrunches in distress and he returns his hand.

“I won’t, I promise.”

“Mother promised too…” she said distantly.

“I…I’m sorry, you’re not making any sense,” he said, eyes searching her features for an explanation.

“Bryan, why is it so cold?”

Cullen gave a heavy sigh, she was clearly delirious and he was at a loss for how he should respond. The way she spoke, with the innocence of a child, made him wonder just where and when she thought she was. And he had no idea who this ‘Bryan’ was either.

He offered the only thing he could think which might help warm her, removing his own cloak despite the frigid air, he lay it over her. Carefully he tucked the furs up around her chin.

“Mother always lit the hearth…I don’t think father knows, he’s too sad…” her voice is quiet and pondering.

“Annabel…I don’t…I’m sorry,” he flusters.

“Will it be cold where Mother’s going? Is that why her skin was so cold?”

With a heavy heart he suddenly realises what she’s talking about. It seemed her mother must have passed away when she was young. He knew nothing of her family, save they were noble and fairly well respected, in fact he knew very little of her at all. He supposed it was only fair, after all, she knew nothing of him. “Shhh-“

“Don’t shh me Bryan,” she lashed out under the blankets. “Just because I’m little don’t mean I’m stupid. Tell me. Why is she so cold? Why won’t father come see us? Why is it so cold? Why…?”  

A few people grumbled and rolled over, but most seemed so weary that they drifted back off to sleep despite her commotion. Growing tired himself he replies. “It’s cold because we’re out side, I don’t know where your father is and your mother…I don’t know. Now rest.”

His voice, despite its almost military tone, seems to soothe her and she settles back. Resting her cheek against his fur trimmed cloak, he can see her eyes darting under closed lids, clearly re living a vivid dream. A deep pang of empathy fills him.

“Father forgot about us again didn’t he?” she asks her voice down trodden.

“Maker’s breath…” Cullen shock his head. “No… I’m sure he wouldn’t do that.”

“It’s ok…” she nuzzled into in his furs. “He’ll return someday, do you think he’ll bring mother back with him?”

Rubbing his face Cullen sighs heavily, deciding perhaps he should just ignore her, if he didn’t engage maybe she would slip back off into a deeper slumber?

“Why did she have to go?”

The question is truly pitiful, and even though she is snuggled asleep, her expression seemed lost. It tugs at his heart, to see her suffering, trapped in a painful dream, an old memory and he’s forced to look away.

“Bryan?” She asks with caution.

His amber eyes flick back to watch her carefully while he remains steadfast in his silence.

“Bryan?” She calls tossing to the side, searching for someone who isn’t there, she shouts the name again, her cry desperate. He hears a rumble of complaints from disturbed men and eases his hand on her forehead, his resolve at tough love already broken.

“It’s ok,” he murmurs softly.

“No, no its not, you said you wouldn’t leave, you said you’d stay! Why does no one stay?!” Shrill and demanding her voice pierces the still night air.

Maker, she is feisty even when asleep riddled with fever and thinking like a child. He had wondered if her fire had been an act, a front she put up to cope with the title of ‘Herald of Andraste’ but no…whatever ferocity she has inside runs through to her core. Determined, demanding and brutally honest. She didn’t hold back, wasn’t afraid to ask the hard questions or find out their answers.

“I didn’t leave…Annabel, it’s Cullen, Commander Cullen,” he tries to draw her back from where ever she has wondered in the Fade.

“C-u-l-l-e-n,” she said, as if hearing it for the first time.

“Yes, now go back to sleep,” he states leaning back in his seat to try to rest his straining eyes.

“I like him,” she adds. He opens his eyes a crack, checking if she was winding him up, as she so often did, but she still seemed to be fast asleep.

“He’s warm and kind…” she muses. “He thinks he can hide it…but I can see.”

A half smile creeps onto one corner of his lip and he sits forward slightly. He can’t deny he’s tempted to find out more but knows it’s wrong given the circumstances. “You need to rest,” he said softly.

“No…he needs to rest,” she replies her brows furrowing. “He works and worries too much…I don’t like it.”

He gives a light chuckle. “I’m sure he’s fine,” he replies, attempting to reassure her and falling into her pattern of speech.

“Good,” she mumbles. There is a long silence and finally he hunkers down hoping for some peace.

“Bryan? Do you think he likes me?”

Snapping awake his eyes jolt open. “I…err…” Even though she’s not awake he glances away, the openness of the question too bold for him to know how to answer.

“That’s a good question,” Leliana’s smooth voice states as she slips into view, dark blanket draped over her shoulders.

“Ah, Leliana…” he staggers to his feet, his muscles frozen stiff. When she raises a questioning eye brow at him he scowls. “This is not the time,” he grumbles then looks down to Annabel. “She thinks I’m someone else. A Bryan?”

Leliana folds her arms and appears to consider the name. “I cannot think of any of our officers with that name with any close connection.”

He shakes his head. “No…that’s not it…does she have a brother, perhaps?”

“Yes. An older brother, an heir…We wrote to the Bann as soon as she gave her name. Her brother replied, which was most peculiar in itself. He was less than impressed we had her in chains…but has since pledged the support of house Trevelyan. Yes, a Lord Bryan-”

“Yes,” Annabel exclaimed with a pitch of joy. “Bryan!”

They both look to her, half expecting her to be sat upright, but her body is still, with the trace of a smile on her lips.

“She thinks you’re him?” Leliana smirks. “She must be confused indeed. By all accounts he is a formidable man, alluding to threats even, if we did not keep her safe within the Inquisition.”

“Threats? Why wasn’t I told?” Cullen demands trying to keep his pitch low through worry about disturbing the Herald once more.

“They were empty threats, Commander,” she waves her hand dismissively.

“Commander?” Annabel echoes the title. “Commander Cullen?”

Cullen smiles, relieved, that she’s finally understanding. “Yes, Commander Cullen,” he breathes, hoping that will be the last time tonight he has to repeat his own name.

“He thinks I don’t notice,” she smiles and giggles lightly. “How he blushes when I catch him staring.”

A sly grin comes across Leliana’s lips. “Is that so?”

Annabel giggles again. “Umm hmm, his cheeks glow but I don’t mind, it’s rather cute, I like how-“

“Right, that’s enough,” he snaps. He would not have his, desires, as such, split out for all to hear. “She needs her rest, as do I, so if you don’t mind,” he gestures for Leliana to leave with a hard stare.

The spymaster challenges it for a second with one of equal measure before tipping her head. “Of course,” she turns to leave but hesitates. “Although think of what we could learn? About her, about the conclave?”

“No,” Cullen states flatly. “She is vulnerable, that would be taking advantage of a frightened child.”

Leliana stares questioningly at him.

“Never mind,” he waves her away and she languishes off back to bed.

Several quiet hours pass and eventually he dozes off only to be woken by a fitful bout of Annabel’s coughing. She sweat drenched and mumbling incoherent things about dragons. She has gone deathly pale and he feels a hard lump rush up to lodge in his throat.

Instinctively he’s on his feet and rolls her onto one side to ease the retching. Every breath she draws makes an audible wheeze from somewhere deep in her chest and his heart races. He moves to fetch Mother Gisele but she’s already rushing over. Various of the Herald’s companions are also up, looking over nervously through puffy eyes as Cullen backs away to allow the healers some space.

He watches helplessly for a few moments as she coughs so violently that she wakes half the camp. Maker no, he finds himself begging, he’d fretted and worried endlessly about whether she was alive or dead…and now this. For her to be here, to have found her way against the odds, only to die in the cold grasp of the night?

He starts pacing and Cassandra is soon there to offer a calming arm on his shoulder. “Cullen, you’re freezing, you need to rest, come,” she states.

“No,” his answer is simple and absolute. “I said I would not leave her and I will not.”

“She is in safe hands, now come, warm yourself by the fire, just for a bit.”

Cassandra is right, he is freezing, his fresh sweat chilling against the icy winds which still drive across the land. Tempted by the warmth he glances to his friend, he’s about to agree when a bedraggled cry sounds out.

“Bryan!”

His focus returns to Annabel and at once he’s striding back to her. When he arrives, he finds her sobbing, tears soaking her face and chest heaving with the effort.

“It’s ok,” he grabs her hand which has come loose. “I’m here.”

Those close by watch on, confused, but unwilling to interrupt as it seems the action calms her. She settles and much to everyone’s clear relief the coughing eases to a steady heavy wheeze.

Cullen can feel her squeezing and while her grip is not overly strong it gives him hope, she is not willing to let go. He looks to Mother Giselle. “What do we do?”

“There is nothing more we can do,” she replies. “It is up to the will of the Maker now.”

“What? There must be something,” his eyes harden, refusing to believe what he’s hearing.

“Keep her warm, reassure her and pray. Have faith Commander, her will is strong.”

He hangs his head. That was not the practical answer he had hoped for. “Thank you, revered mother,” he said closing his eyes, the chant of light already forming in his mind.

“I will be here if you need me,” she said, nodding then moving off along with the healer and the roused companions.

Cassandra remained for a moment. “The Herald is a remarkable woman,” she said. “If anyone can survive this, it is her.”

He nods lightly, taking her comforting words on board, he senses her leave and within a few moments he’s alone with Annabel once more. He watches the rise and fall of her lungs, vision blank to the rest of the world as he prays for her. Exhaustion eventually sets in and he is forced to shut his heavy eyes, although he still sits perched by her side, his hand curled around hers.

Such small hands he’d noted, not seemingly the hands of a warrior at all, he’s pondering on how she manages to wield a blade when he feels her stir next to him.

“There was so much blood…Why was there so much?” Annabel mumbles and he sighs heavily, although at least she’s able to speak without coughing. “Why is it still so cold…”

His thumb rubs her hand, reminding her he is there with a subtle gesture.

“She’s not coming back is she?” Annabel asks her voice small.

“No,” he replies gently. “But I’m here.” He can feel her fingers rub back through his gloves.

“Thank you,” she said. “Please, can you hold me? Like she did?”

The request is so pure he feels his heart crack once more. Its wholly inappropriate and he rejects it on instinct. However, the revered mother’s words echo in his head. Keep her warm and reassure her, plus then he’d also know she was safe…He’s worn out and frozen to the core, the offer not only to lie down, but to lie down with her curled beside him is a temptation like none his ever known. Save maybe once…but still professionalism holds him back.

“Annabel…I don’t think-“

She releases his hand and rolls over, shifting to the edge of the bed, seemingly to make space for him, the effort brings out a slight cough. “Please,” she said her voice straining. “Cullen.”

At the sound of his name his eyes widen slightly. He’d assumed she thought he was Bryan, he glances briefly around and wonders if he’s heard her correctly.

“I’m sorry,” she murmurs her voice fading. “I just-“ her words are broken by coughing and promptly he lays down beside her, propped up on his elbow while his other hand rests on her back.

“It’s alright,” he rubs through the layers and her chest eases. He can see no harm in indulging her until she falls back to sleep so he decides to remain there, for now.

The bustle of the camp filters through and he groans at the disturbance. He’s warm and comfortable with no desire to stir. His cheek is resting against something soft, and as more of his senses return to him he realises one arm and leg are curled around the delicate curves of a woman. He smiles faintly to himself, content, until a spark of realisation hits him.

Opening his eyes he finds his nose is buried in Annabel’s hair and his body draped over her. Abruptly he sits up into the frigid morning air, dawn has just broken, and blinking in the pale light he soon spots Mother Giselle observing silently from close by.

He glances back to Annabel who rolls at the disturbance, her leg looping over his and hand resting on his chest, with a panic he shoves her away. She groans distastefully but doesn’t stir as he promptly gets up.

“I was just…” he pauses, trying to find the right thing to explain the situation and rubbing the back of his neck as nerves kick in.

“Do not fret child,” Mother Gisele smiles softly at him.

Still he feels the burning need to justify his behaviour. “She was cold…she asked me…” he sighs heavily. “I just wanted to do what was best, for her, that is all.” He glances back to Annabel.

She has snuggled into his cloak in the warm spot he’s left behind and it hits him. That really was all he wanted. To help her, to protect her, to comfort her, whatever it took to see her smile again. Maker’s breath he was in over his head. “You won’t say anything, will you?” He asks turning back to the revered mother.

“My lips are sealed,” she said, nodding her head lightly to him with a glint of knowing in her eye which throws him a little off balance.

Still her words are reassuring. “Good,” he sighs, relaxing a fraction, he hears a cough and spins back to Annabel. She’s now sitting up, hand over her mouth trying to catch her breath once more. “Annabel? Are you alright?” His question is cautious, half expecting more nonsense, but she gives him a little nod and takes the water skin Giselle swiftly hands her.

“Not going to lie,” she rasps a little laugh. “I’ve been better…” she rubs her hands against her face, clearly groggy and when they settle back into his fur mantle she stares at it for a moment, then back up at him. “Thank you, Cullen…” she said, eyes and small smile so sincere he feels warmth blossom in his chest despite the chill and fog of his breath.

“Your welcome, Annabel.”

EPISODE 0 (BALLOTS): GET ANOTHER SHOT AT TAKING THE CROWN - KEEGAN

I'm watching everyone join the chat and keeping tabs on who played once or twice so i know who look out for on the ballot or possibly in the game. I know people from my season probably hate me and will never trust me in games ever again so i'm trying to keep my head down and my wig on because i know if i do get voted in along with that don't like game me, i'm truly fucked. I'm still excited and hopeful for the best.

Every time I look at the ballot, I flinch and cringe a bit because it's almost guaranteed that whoever gets on this season will have a partner with them from their season which is pretty much an alliance right off the bat. It worries me because I could be without a seasonal partner which could put a target on my back if I do get into the game, or the game will be even harder to play because everyone will be expected to be with their partner and divergence from that system could cause serious chaos

Honestly, I don't think I stand a CHANCE against some of these other people in the ballot. Some people in the ballot are literal legends in both the TS and BB communites so I'm honestly just hoping for the best that I'll make the cut. If I make it onto the cast I hope Dom, Nick & Luke are there with me since I know them all but I'm sure I'll be happy with whoever I'm in the game with as long as I get cast!

Well I'm nervous as always when it comes to public vote. I think I can get enough votes to make it!! I know I have a fan club that is doing what they can. If I don't get in it's not like it's the end of the world!! Yeah it would be fun but there are always more seasons!!! I just hope it's not casted with people that are gonna be inactive or complete butts. Like Matthias - please no I like him but please don't cast him. In games he is a mess.

I feel like people have more connections with alot of people here in the tumblr community. Me in the other hand has less connections with most of the community. I can tell by this ballot that if you are popular you can get instantly in and I feel like there's more to this ballot but it's just my guess. I feel like the Great Lakes people are all in and another season of 4 I forgot (on phone btw) is in as well. That's probably a pre-made alliance by now and if I was in ima make sure to find an idol first and making sure my own cover is there so that way one by one they will go down, honesty is the best policy and I play true to the heart and I may be nice, but if I played a 2nd time ima play like a comp beast that no one can try to beat. My entity of advertising is to not campaign and not to ask people to campaign for me but to get them to campaign to vote me without me actually doing the work but with a little bit of me saying yes please vote me but without saying to vote me in a lot of vocabulary terms. Win or lose the ballot it was great being asked to play again despite whatever happens will happen.

i don't think i have a shot at being cast so i don't have much to say. i just hope that the cast is adorable. if i get in then this world is fucked up.

It's funny to submit a confessional for a series you haven't been cast on yet. There's 30 options. I have played exactly 3 games in the community since joining in late 2016. Myanmar was my first game and I tanked that pretty bad. Since then, I won House of Shade 16 and I played Survivor Wikia: Morocco on Facebook and placed 4th, winning Player of the Season. I now feel like I'm ready to come back to Tumblr Survivor and see if I can play a better game than previous. Looking at the prospective cast, I am the oldest on the ballot by 4 years, so I definitely have my work cut out for me no matter what. I have only played with Keegan, my Myanmar castmate, but I'm friendly with Trent (Kiribati) because he hosted Survivor Wikia: Morocco. My strategy for campaigning has been to just be visible in the VL because a lot of people have made it obvious that they only know a few people and they, for whatever reason, are required to fill up the ballot with 10 names. I'm befriending as many people in the chat as possible to take the opportunity to be fresh in their heads when they're selecting randoms to fill out the rest of their ballots. So far, I like Nick (bio video notwithstanding), Tyler (though the vast majority of the community has told me to stay far away from him), Renee, Ian, Benjamin, Zack, Logan, Ci'ere (who lives in the same city that I do), Steven, Ashton, Kage, Luke, and Bodhi (that list was longer than intended. It looks like I just like everybody).

To summarize: My campaign is literally just participation. My friends from other ORGs voting for me is the same expectation everyone else should have. The real game is convincing losers you don't know that they should vote for you in addition to the 3-4 people they have history with.

Um I'm worried I'm not gonna be cast becuz I don't really know anybody in this community but strategies hmmmm I'm in pretty big reddit org community so Ive posted the ballot in there everyday which probabaly got me some extra votes people couldn't get. But other than that I feel like the only people I'm getting are the other Great Lakes people which maybe is enough but I doubt it. Anyways, hopefully I'm cast..don't think I will be.

I'm not really doing much for the ballot honestly! I'm just posting it in a few chats I am in and sending it to friends that I know are voting for me. I am also making sure that I vote myself everyday and haven't missed one yet! I'll probably get more aggressive as the days go on, because I want to make sure I at least have a group of 10-15 I know are voting me. What I like is that you are required to vote for 10 people in my group so I hope I'm not just skipped and some people accidentally vote for me!!

Right now my strategy is being an annoying fly and fly into all the chats I'm in and tell them to vote for me. I was shook to see 4 Bora Bora reps including myself in the ballot. Not to mention 3 Mystic Falls peeps and Luke as well. I'm already trying to assess these people in the ballot and get a read on them. Anyways hopefully all the Bora Bora and Mystic Falls get casted because I love them all.

I'm supposed to be well liked so hopefully that gets me the votes?? Okay back to being an annoying fly.

Alright there friends. Welcome to my second season on Tumblr Survivor. I'm very excited to get everything working, it's all falling together with relative ease.

So on my ballot, there's quite a few people. A whole 15 of them in fact.

Ok so Logan and I are both from Maine. I have NO FUCKING CLUE where Ellsworth even is, but I'll trust that it's in Maine. We are also both Jews, and with the addition of Daisy, this might be the highest concentration of Jews in human history. We hit it off well enough, we'll work together if we can.

Dom R seems like a cuck, but fortunately for us, I'm also a cuck! what a beautifully cute insult. Now, Dom was kind enough to elaborate on his game in his little campaign video, and it is CLEAR to me that he is not that great at this game. He'll make the merge, and he'll be eliminated as a threat, and everyone(including me) will say "oh no, Dom was robbed." But we'll be wrong. He doesn't understand the game a high enough extent I don't think. He is very much on the "prove myself, make a move" train, which is NOT HEALTHY. I hope that Dom proves me wrong with his game, because I really like the guy off of my first impression alone, but I think he'll make a move too early and pay for it.

C, I, E R E, don't forget the apostrophe. God, this is an annoying way to say your name. On that fact alone, I didn't vote Ci'ere in the first two ballots. However, I decided on a whim to talk to him, and I actually really like the guy. He's a little over the top, but hey, so am I, just in a different way. I'm excited for Ci'ere, because I think that I can make other people feel rubbed the wrong way by him, but I also think that he could be a great ally.

Akito seems beloved, so I'm checking that name on every ballot. I want to maximize my own chances by throwing away my votes at people who I feel are already guaranteed a spot. I don't click that well with Akito, but I think I could if we were on the same tribe.

Max lists off 3 seasons they were on previously. Um, excuse me, but isn't this SECOND chances?

I am PUMPED for some Brett. I didn't care about Brett until now, but his calling out the Tumblr community in his paragraph that is posted ON TUMBLR is incredible. I really hope that he gets on, because we need at least one straight white male to fulfill the diversity requirements.

Keegan's intro is so LONG, but he seems like a good threat to have around. I think he's got a decent shot at winning, but not really. He says that he will do anything to win, which probably includes losing.

Steven and I won't click I don't think. He says iconic about FOUR DAYS. Like, iconic is only a cool word if you don't overuse it. See Brett for more info. He's gonna make big moves, so I want him on my side. He won't win, but he could make it a little ways into the game, and he'd be a convenient shield because EVERYONE is rooting for his success in the VL. I actually take back that we wont get along. "Nothing says winning like two rocks in your pocket" is a beautiful quote, and I really like Steven now.

Dom A was player of the season in India. I was POTS in my season as well, so hopefully there will be a mutual shield relationship with us two.

ASHTON and I never really clicked on GL. I liked the guy, but Kage wanted him gone, and I wanted Kage in charge, so I let it happen. Ashton was MAD at me, but I did what I had to.

Kage was my favorite. He LOVES grabbing control of the game and tearing it to the ground, but the problem is that everyone sees through him. Kage will be an early boot this season, but he'd better be on my side until he goes.

Luke thinks that he played a good game in Great Lakes. I very much disagree with this notion, and I need to avoid telling him that I think his game was very average. He just played idols that he found out of sheer luck too early, and got voted out for playing too hard. His social game makes everyone think that he's scheming too much, which is not exactly what you want the perception of you to be. I am excited to play with Luke again because I really love the guy, but I'm going to have to keep my mouth shut.

Lily gave a terrible bio, and all I know is that her perception of the game seems below average.

Daisy seems very intelligent. I would love to work closely with Daisy. She and I are both Jews, and I've very offhandedly mentioned the possibility of a Jewish alliance called "the Jews did this" just because I think that's funny.

Alright!! ON TO MYSELF! So am I going to win second chances? probably not. I don't think I have that much of a shot at all actually. But I'm going to give it my all, and try to play the most fun game that I possibly can. I'm floating around so very many new strategic ideas, and I'm narrowing in on a game plan. I want to be that one guy who is just controversial enough that people will think I'm a goat, but just sensible enough that people will want to work with me. I essentially want to be Abi Maria, except it's all an act. I am very excited to play this game out. I don't know to what extent I will take this strategy, but I know that to an extent I'll be playing a new character this season, which excites me quite a bit. I'll throw challenges just a little bit this time around, because I think that it's exhilarating, but I don't want people realizing that I'm throwing them. There's a whole new dimension that needs to be applied now. Originally, I just wanted to seem like I am not a threat at all, but now I have to seem like I'm not trying to seem like I'm not a threat, while still minimizing my threat factor. WHEW this is gonna be fun.

Outside of my ballot, I really like Ryan. He talks in a way that shows his intelligence. He pauses, and then lets out a bunch of words at once, which is a very appealing way to speak in my opinion. I think he's going to overplay, but I'd like him on my side while he does it.

Renee is going to be one of the bigger threats in the game. I think she's not in a great position to win, but she's got a good shot. I'm very excited to play with her.

I really love Ian's accent. He wants to prove himself which is great for my game. I don't want to prove myself at all, I just want to win, and these people saying that proving themselves is important is EXCELLENT.

Trent is over the top in the best possible way. I love Trent.

Apparently Ashley Sarah is very popular, so I'll watch out for her.

Zack is a very good player. That is no good.

Uh so like, I'm not entirely confident about getting onto the season and I really do think it's all down to the season that I originally come from. People literally hate the Great Lakes cast and it's not hard to see why because all tea, they're some of the most annoying people I've ever met in my life. I'm being shady by not voting for any of the other Great Lakers on the ballots but that's because I don't want any of them in the season with me! Ashton and Kage don't deserve it and quite frankly, Bodhi is full of himself and he ain't that great so there's that!

I'm trying my best to campaign for votes, getting a couple people from outside the community to vote for me so that's cute. I'm putting the link in my Skype bio, on my Tumblr and just places where people might click it and vote for me! I really do think that I deserve this second chance but there are 4 Great Lakers on the ballot and like....people won't wanna vote for all 4 of them so they might be leaving me out. I'm literally guilty by association for being on one of the worst seasons but I was one of the shining lights of that season, know that. Can't wait to get dragged for this in the GL reunion chat if this gets released. Oops!

Finals can't keep a hoe from campaigning

I'm so glad that campaigning is 1/3 of the way done because I think I'm annoying everyone by telling them to vote for me everyday lmao. I'm one of the lesser known people in the Tumblr community, so I'm going to have to work twice as hard to get my name out there and collect dem votes. Luckily, people like unique names so that's a plus for me!! My predictions on official cast locks from group one are Trent, Tyler, Matthias, Ryan, Nick, Renee, Ashley Sarah, Abel, Jeff and Zack. For group two: Bodhi, Keegan, Brett, Steven, Ashton, Logan, both Doms, and Kage. This is based on video views and how people are socializing/campaigning for their faves. I didn't really care for Max's video, but their self-deprecating manner and individuality makes me hope they get through. I'm trying to socialize a lot in the VL, send some cute selfies lmao, and literally message every group chat I'm in to garner votes. I literally gave someone my face wash routine asdfghjkl. I hope that people are liking me and that in about 9 days 'll be sending confessionals from in the game! I really want this second chance and I'm gonna go all out for it.

Hey fam so it's day 4 of the ballot and~~~~~ I'm not sure how well my chances of making it on are tbh. I've done some campaigning and asked friends to vote but it's really a daunting task to keep up with it everyday lol. Honestly though I do think I have a good shot of avoiding being the 5 who don't get in (from my group)

I feel like there's sooo much pregaming going on that I'm not apart of kfhslajd rip. Bodhi in particular..... he messaged me like day 1 and we had a really good conversation and seems like someone I could work with. But as the days went on I talked to some others & they're all like "omg Bodhi is so great i love him" sooo I see you Bodhi!!!

WHICH OF YOU UGLY MOTHERFUCKERS DECIDED TO MOVE THE PREMIERE DATE UP TO A FRIDAY. THE ONE DAY I CANNOT BE THERE ON TIME. LITERALLY FUCK Y'ALL. Also idk why but some of the people that are potential cast mates annoy me. I hate that they annoy me and i know it's wrong but like, it's their names and the way they talk and how close they are that just... irk me. This is gonna sound so awful when these confessionals get released.

Whew! So I probably should've submitted by now but I keep forgetting. Anyways, so far my strategy is to not campaign too much. I figure most people are voting based off their friends, or based off who they think had the most convincing plea's. So if someone wasn't already gonna vote for me, they're not gonna change their mind just because i sent the link to a random VL and asked them to. If I see someone send a link I'll add on, "hey, vote for me too!" but I really don't think it's gonna make a huge difference. I really hope that people see me and know that I deserve this, and that they choose to vote me in.

It's the last day!!! I'm so nervous!!! I hope I get in but I also don't wanna flop !!! I think I have a decent chance tho. So many names I don't know will allow me to get some new allies so that will be nice. Unless they all turn out to be snakes. Ugh. I'm hoping that if I do get in I'll have at least one friend. Maybe Keegan or Dom. Not sure how Zack will feel cause I haven't spoken to him since game wonder if he would be ally or target me from start???

Other than Brett, I know Logan, Daisy, Ashley Sarah.... and.... Jevvon. I think that's it? I'm not exactly friends with any of them but having playing a bit with most of them I have an idea of how they're games are. I'd rather play with people I have some knowledge of rather than people I've never even heard of (sorry not sorry).

I'm not sure there's much else to say at this point. I put in a lot of effort, maybe not as much as I could have, but hopefully it pays off!

Today is the day!! I've gotten to talk to several people on the ballot as we help each other get votes. I really look forward to knowing if I made it in and working with some of these people!!! I really should play more survivor so maybe this game will help me get back into that side of the org community!! Nervous but I think I have enough to do it.

The more time that passes, i'm starting to think that maybe i didn't get cast for second chances. Truth be told, i'm not that popular and i'm sure the people that always talk will probably get voted in because they most likely made a bunch of email accounts and had their friends vote too, so i'm slowly losing hope on the fact that i got cast. To me, i'd rather expect not to be cast and then expect too much and get short changed. So the ballots have officially come to an end and now I wait. There are some people on the ballot I can 100% see myself trying to work with like Dom, Logan, Luke, etc. It doesnt appear to me that I have any enemies on the ballot, which is a huge plus... not to mention I have no rivalries with people because I havent played in 200 years. I think I have a far shot at getting a chance to come back... my name was first on the ballot which might help???? As long as there wasnt too much of a rigged system I shit be looking pretty to go in on Friday :)

I tried being a bit more strategic with my votes in the final half. I tried voting for only one player from each season, because I know how difficult the game will be if there's already a huge alliance of players that know each other. I keep trying to reassure myself that there's only a small chance that I won't be making it just based on the nature of the votes, so I really hope I get in!

Greetings there, cowboys. I've been listening to some cool music recently! And more importantly, I've been thinking out my strategy. I want people to think about me just the right amount at first, but then fade into the background. I want to be one of those people that on day one, people want to be the first to get to strategically, but then I want to float down that river until I crash into a goddamn beaver damn and get voted out in 7th place.

My social game is exactly what I want it to be. My pregaming hasn't been anything firm, but I've talked to a few people and planted seeds for future social connections. I'm not getting super close with anyone pregame, but I'm bonding with people over various portions of our identities. Oh, you're Jewish? Me too. Let's be friends. Oh, your name is spelled weirdly? Me too. Let's be friends and bond over lying about our names so that people don't misspell/mispronounce them when we order food. I've said that I refuse to play the same game twice, and that is still true, but I have to rely on my anyone-but-me if I want to succeed. I can't try ANYTHING strategic that people will be threatened by. I need to be very moderate, just empowering others to do what they want to do, and sticking in the background.

I've worked pretty hard to get on the season, so people are going to think of me as a threat, but my new goat personality might be enough that their fears will subside.

i'm feeling decent about my chances of getting on. most people have told me they felt like i was a lock, and lowkey i just got announced to be in another org so i didnt campaign like at all. so it could go either way.

Golf anyone… anyone? Developers reimagine South Florida’s money-losing courses

The Carolina Club, an 18-hole championship golf course in Margate, has served as a qualifying site for the PGA Honda Classic and is known for its fast, well-manicured greens and contoured fairways. But the semi-private club, built in 1971, isn’t making the cut.

Miami-based developer 13th Floor Homes plans to acquire the 140-acre facility and completely transform it into a 350-unit residential community, with single family homes and townhouses. The proposed homes would cost about $300,000 to $400,000 each, meaning the developer stands to make more than $120 million in total sales. The current owner, J&D Golf Properties, would also stand to profit from the sale. It purchased the club in 2002 for $5.3 million.

The Carolina Club conversion is just one of several planned golf course redevelopments in South Florida, as golf operators weigh the rising expense of maintaining fairways and greens against the diminishing revenue. Couple that with the game’s waning popularity nationwide, and owning a golf course is now a risky proposition.

“Less people play golf, and those who do play are playing less rounds,” said Mike Nunziata, president of 13th Floor Homes. “Operators are having to cut rates to attract players. The industry is now in a place where the revenue just isn’t enough to cover the costs to maintain itself.”

His company has developed a niche business statewide for building residential communities on former golf courses. From the 1970s to the 1990s, the game experienced a rise in golf course construction — spiking in Florida — along with some residential communities nestled alongside. Nunziata said that development far exceeded demand.

Despite several closings, Florida still has the highest number of 18-hole golf courses in the country. And just in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, there are 177 18-hole equivalent golf course facilities, according to the National Golf Foundation. That’s down from 189 in 2007. But many others are barely hanging on, industry pros said.

“The golf courses were purely being built to sell the homes and support neighboring residential communities,” Nunziata said. “It was really more a real estate play and not so much a strategy that was centered around golf.”

In addition to his plans for Carolina Club, the developer is converting an 18-hole course in Delray Beach into Avalon Trails, a 521-unit residential community geared toward people 55 and older. Other projects in the works include a single-family home community over what are now two 18-hole golf courses in Tamarac.

In Hollywood, the Pulte Group is building 645 homes — including townhouses and single-family homes — at the former Hillcrest Golf & Country Club. The area covers 160 acres, and will rise over the 18- and 9-hole courses.

Atlanta-based Pulte is also developing 152 homes on nine of Woodmont Country Club’s 18 holes. It paid $10.2 million for the property in 2016.

But just as Tiger Woods appears to be on the comeback trail, the game itself has been evolving and companies are adapting to the next generation of fans and players.

Topgolf, a Texas-based entertainment and technology-themed firm, has been establishing a presence in major commercial centers around the world, including Miami. At least five Topgolf facilities have either opened or are being planned in Florida. The first opened in Miami Gardens in 2016.

Investors are also considering other uses for all that golf course land. Soccer superstar and entrepreneur David Beckham is considering transforming the Melreese Country Club in Miami into a 25,000-seat Major League Soccer stadium. Beckham and his partners, Marcelo Claure, Jorge and Jose Mas, and Simon Fuller have put the price tag at $200 million.

For Topgolf, facilities are typically three-story entertainment complexes that feature a driving range, restaurant and bar. The golf balls are microchipped so statistics like distance and accuracy can be tracked and translated into points for games.

In some cases, they’re being built on existing courses, as in West Palm Beach. There, a Topgolf facility will rise on the 196-acre West Palm Beach municipal golf course. And while it could be seen as a competitor to 18-hole courses, Topgolf says it works closely with institutions like the Professional Golfers’ Association to help some courses stay open.

Topgolf spokesperson Morgan Schaaf said Florida is a natural place for Topgolf to expand, which the company is doing at a rapid rate. Topgolf is aiming to open seven to 10 locations a year, she said. It’s also going international, with facilities planned for Australia, Canada and Mexico within the next five years. Schaaf added that half its customers are golf novices because the company makes it more accessible than a traditional course.

Despite Topgolf’s popularity, a love for the course is still strong in Florida.

Developer Lennar had been under contract to build homes on the 212-acre Ocean Breeze Golf Club in Boca Raton, which shut down in 2016 after having lost money and members for years. But plans skidded into the rough amid opposition from Boca Teeca duffers who were left with no options.

Sunrise-based GL Homes had already acquired the nearby Boca Raton Municipal Golf Course for $65 million. It plans to replace the 27-hole, 194-acre course with a community of 500 homes.

Earlier this month, the city of Boca Raton and its Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District bought the 27-hole Ocean Breeze course for $24 million. The seller, Wells Fargo, seized the property through foreclosure. The renovated golf course, to be called the Boca Raton National Golf Club, is set to open in late 2019 or early 2020. It is expected to be a costly endeavor, up to $18 million to renovate and about $2.2 million per year to maintain.

That kind of community effort appears to be an outlier, said Brent Baker, Pulte’s Southeast Florida division president.

Only two kinds of golf courses will stay open in the future, he said. The first is the one that requires membership fees, and the second is a public golf course that is subsidized by taxpayers, though even those — as seen with the Boca Raton municipal course — have great difficulty staying afloat.

The math, Baker said, usually doesn’t add up. “To keep a golf courses operating you’re talking hundreds of thousands of dollars, sometimes millions of dollars a year.”

His company has developed a niche business statewide for building residential communities on former golf courses. From the 1970s to the 1990s, the game experienced a rise in golf course construction — spiking in Florida — along with some residential communities nestled alongside. Nunziata said that development far exceeded demand.

Despite several closings, Florida still has the highest number of 18-hole golf courses in the country. And just in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, there are 177 18-hole equivalent golf course facilities, according to the National Golf Foundation. That’s down from 189 in 2007. But many others are barely hanging on, industry pros said.

“The golf courses were purely being built to sell the homes and support neighboring residential communities,” Nunziata said. “It was really more a real estate play and not so much a strategy that was centered around golf.”

In addition to his plans for Carolina Club, the developer is converting an 18-hole course in Delray Beach into Avalon Trails, a 521-unit residential community geared toward people 55 and older. Other projects in the works include a single-family home community over what are now two 18-hole golf courses in Tamarac.

In Hollywood, the Pulte Group is building 645 homes — including townhouses and single-family homes — at the former Hillcrest Golf & Country Club. The area covers 160 acres, and will rise over the 18- and 9-hole courses.

Atlanta-based Pulte is also developing 152 homes on nine of Woodmont Country Club’s 18 holes. It paid $10.2 million for the property in 2016.

But just as Tiger Woods appears to be on the comeback trail, the game itself has been evolving and companies are adapting to the next generation of fans and players.

Topgolf, a Texas-based entertainment and technology-themed firm, has been establishing a presence in major commercial centers around the world, including Miami. At least five Topgolf facilities have either opened or are being planned in Florida. The first opened in Miami Gardens in 2016.

Investors are also considering other uses for all that golf course land. Soccer superstar and entrepreneur David Beckham is considering transforming the Melreese Country Club in Miami into a 25,000-seat Major League Soccer stadium. Beckham and his partners, Marcelo Claure, Jorge and Jose Mas, and Simon Fuller have put the price tag at $200 million.

For Topgolf, facilities are typically three-story entertainment complexes that feature a driving range, restaurant and bar. The golf balls are microchipped so statistics like distance and accuracy can be tracked and translated into points for games.

In some cases, they’re being built on existing courses, as in West Palm Beach. There, a Topgolf facility will rise on the 196-acre West Palm Beach municipal golf course. And while it could be seen as a competitor to 18-hole courses, Topgolf says it works closely with institutions like the Professional Golfers’ Association to help some courses stay open.

Topgolf spokesperson Morgan Schaaf said Florida is a natural place for Topgolf to expand, which the company is doing at a rapid rate. Topgolf is aiming to open seven to 10 locations a year, she said. It’s also going international, with facilities planned for Australia, Canada and Mexico within the next five years. Schaaf added that half its customers are golf novices because the company makes it more accessible than a traditional course.

Despite Topgolf’s popularity, a love for the course is still strong in Florida.

Developer Lennar had been under contract to build homes on the 212-acre Ocean Breeze Golf Club in Boca Raton, which shut down in 2016 after having lost money and members for years. But plans skidded into the rough amid opposition from Boca Teeca duffers who were left with no options.

Sunrise-based GL Homes had already acquired the nearby Boca Raton Municipal Golf Course for $65 million. It plans to replace the 27-hole, 194-acre course with a community of 500 homes.

Earlier this month, the city of Boca Raton and its Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District bought the 27-hole Ocean Breeze course for $24 million. The seller, Wells Fargo, seized the property through foreclosure. The renovated golf course, to be called the Boca Raton National Golf Club, is set to open in late 2019 or early 2020. It is expected to be a costly endeavor, up to $18 million to renovate and about $2.2 million per year to maintain.

That kind of community effort appears to be an outlier, said Brent Baker, Pulte’s Southeast Florida division president.

Only two kinds of golf courses will stay open in the future, he said. The first is the one that requires membership fees, and the second is a public golf course that is subsidized by taxpayers, though even those — as seen with the Boca Raton municipal course — have great difficulty staying afloat.

The math, Baker said, usually doesn’t add up. “To keep a golf courses operating you’re talking hundreds of thousands of dollars, sometimes millions of dollars a year.”

Golf anyone… anyone? Developers reimagine South Florida’s money-losing courses

The Carolina Club, an 18-hole championship golf course in Margate, has served as a qualifying site for the PGA Honda Classic and is known for its fast, well-manicured greens and contoured fairways. But the semi-private club, built in 1971, isn’t making the cut.

Miami-based developer 13th Floor Homes plans to acquire the 140-acre facility and completely transform it into a 350-unit residential community, with single family homes and townhouses. The proposed homes would cost about $300,000 to $400,000 each, meaning the developer stands to make more than $120 million in total sales. The current owner, J&D Golf Properties, would also stand to profit from the sale. It purchased the club in 2002 for $5.3 million.

The Carolina Club conversion is just one of several planned golf course redevelopments in South Florida, as golf operators weigh the rising expense of maintaining fairways and greens against the diminishing revenue.
