Q: “If you had never picked up a guitar, would you have wanted to be a Formula One driver? Or are you happy simply being involved with the crossover between rock-and-roll and F1?” George Harrison: “I don’t think so. I have played guitar with Damon (Hill) and Jacques Villeneuve, drums with Eddie Jordan and taught Gerhard Berger the ukelele... but the Formula One supergroup I am really in is called FLB with Norbert Haug (Mercedes Motorsport director) on accordion and lederhosen.” - The Times, March 2000 (x)

Macau GP 70th Anniversary
YOU. YEAH YOU READING THIS. This is me trying to pursued you to go watch the Macau GP this weekend. This track is historic and legendary. And one of the most fun and dangerous street circuits (imo) with tight corners and varying elevations. It is still the oldest (active) street circuit that still holds F3 (+other races) and isn't part of the F1 World Championship (the other being New Zealand🤝)
Since it’s the 70th anniversary and they are holding two wholeass race weekends with a BANGER entry list this year (full list at the end of the post), so why not take a trip down memory lane and talk about some iconic races and drivers throughout the years. [LONG POST, just saying][Also, surprises underneath]
Macau Grand Prix, Guia Circuit (or Circuito da Guia)—a circuit that spans 6.120km, with different elevations over 30 meters top to bottom (in non-metric terms: 2 small pine trees, or 2 volleyball courts for all non-metric people out there👍). Top speed: 260km/h for an F3 car, which is already a handful. This circuit has had little to no changes since the beginning of its grand opening. While this track serves as a stepping stone for drivers, it remains an independent circuit and race of its own. Though still having an affiliate with the FIA.
Although the first race event began in 1954, they didn’t introduce F3 until 1983. Which they had a strong start for F3 with the likes of Ayrton Senna and Gerhard Berger, respectively taking first and third place.
youtube
A few years later; Eddie Irvine, Damon Hill, Jean Alesi also left their marks on this race track.
But the most iconic moment came in 1990. The battle of Schumacher vs Hakkinen. The beginning of their motor rivalry.
youtube
Schumi took first place while Mika unfortunately crashed out at the back of Schumi’s car.
Jenson Button (a literal child) in 1999, second place. God works hard but those mechanics work even harder
youtube
In 2003-2004, both Lewis and Nico took part, whilst Lewis took pole and they both showed great results in qualifying. Neither of them went on to podium in both years.
2005: baby Seb starting to shine through and took third at the main race, just behind Kubica
youtube
They put a baby in a fast car
2009: Daniel, Valtteri, and Jules took the challenge. Jules started near the back end of the grid but was steady racing and finished 10th. Valtteri started 4th, had the opportunity to be on podium until he got a puncture on the last lap that saw him finish fifth. Daniel-not the best start- clipped the wall and punctured his left rear, carried on a little bit more until he crashed out of the race :( can’t find any video cuz apparently no one cared enough about 2009
2011: Valtteri’s third year in a row; the previous got him third place but this one he retired the car on lap 4 due to an accident. Kmag, da Costa, Carlos participated but all in all, half the grid retired in the end.
youtube
Pre-mustache Bottas and baby redbull Carlos
Bloop! 2014: a wild baby Max appears! Boy had good results in qualifying, placing him third, but in the quali race he lost control and crashed. Main race-7th. Nick Cassidy, Nicki Latifi, Antonio Giovinazzi, Alex Palou finished 3rd, 5th, 12th and 16th. Unfortunately, Antonio Fuoco and Estie Bestie retired :(
youtube
Yes, Max did get the fastest lap
2015: Everybody’s favourite! Charles Leclerc has entered the ring. Charlie’s aggressive attack led him to second place and on that podium. Giovinazzi-4th, Lance Stroll-8th, Nick Cassidy-12th and following close behind, my boy, Alexander Albon-13th
youtube
The race was that good even FIA had to post it on their channel lol
youtube
The infamous onboard camera
2016: we see the introduction of George Russell, Landon Norris, Callum Ilott, Guanyu Zhou and Ticktum (But we’re not gonna talk about him🤭). It was an okay race, António Félix da Costa took first (came 9th in the recent WEC👏) and Nikita crashed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That year gave us baby Lando and baby George who took his first pole *surprise🎉*
2017: A fucking great racing year, Lando came second due to Habsburg and Sette Câmara crashing out in the final corner. It’s Mick’s first year, though not the best result but did manage to snatch the fastest lap 💨
youtube
2018: it was a scary ass race and I remember standing in front of the TV just watching this. Lisboa corner is famously know for a lot of accidents, Sophia Flörsch made contact with another that send her airborne and crashed into the barriers and fractured her vertebrae. Final standing: Mick-5th, Ilott-7th, Schwartzman-9th, Zhou-11th, Vesti-15th
I’m not gonna post the video, you can go look it up if you’re interested
2019: a lot more familiar faces: Richard Verschoor, Jüri Vips (yeah that one), Logan Sargeant, Callum Ilott came back for another year, Liam Lawson with his bestie Yuki Tsunoda, Enzo Fittipaldi, Max Fewtrell🫡, David Schumacher, Felipe Drugovich, Schwartzman’s second attempt and Sophia Flörsch
youtube
3 years of absence and we are back! 2023!
This year there’s two whole weekends, from 11-12th November and 16-19th November. And they’ve a banger list of drivers like Bianca Bustamante for F4 and Richard Verschoor taking another stab at it.
Macau F4 race is happening on the 11-12th:
Tumblr media
F4 is happening the week after on 16-19th
Tumblr media
The FIA is streaming F3 on the YouTube channel (streaming f3 not f4🥲…go watch motor gp too it’s on the same day) but you could probably watch it on other streaming platforms too (you know the ones👀👀)
If you haven’t seen the Macau GP before…give it a go! It’s brilliant!
*side note: if Fernando or Lewis ever retires from f1 and have nothing else to do…I’d like to see them tackle this track (again for Lewis) maybe not f3, maybe something like GT cup or something. It would be verrrry interesting👀

what has been happening in the world of motorsports?
(2.0 electric boogaloo edition)
Mohammed Ben Sulayem is under internal investigation for pushing officials not to certify Las Vegas gp as safe for racing and also for trying to interfere over Fernando Alonso getting a penalty in Jeddah 2023 race (he got a 10 second post race penalty which promoted... George i think? but later the penalty was overturned and he reclaimed the p3 and got his trophy back the next gp), apparently he also asked Max Verstappen to publicly defend/support/back Christian Horner as a way to calm down the situation where everyone talked about nothing but his workplace bahaviour (I suppose Max refused so that's kudos to him for doing the correct thing)
Aston Martin Vantage Safety Car will debut in Saudi Arabia (and will be back in British green)
there are loads of rumours about Red Bull and Horner currently, some are about him attempting to buy the RBR team, some are about Jos Verstappen being intimate with the same woman that accused Horner of inappropriate workplace behaviour, so he is personally interested in the case, after pictures and videos of Jos Verstappen and Toto Wolff appeared online, new rumours about Max Verstappen potentially going to Mercedes in fear of Red Bull falling appart with Ford looking for a way out of 2026 deal appeared too and Marko and Newey hypothetically following him there, after his comments Jos Verstappen is told not to be attending Saudi Arabia gp which may also be a part of solution they tried to find yesterday in Dubai where Max Verstappen's representatives apparently met with Horner (side note: this is another plea not to share any details about the victim which goes both for her pictures and her name, please don't make it harder as it undeniably already is)
Heikki Kovalainen has been forbidden from rally driving by his doctor in fear of his medical condition getting worse with the sport
Alpine announced new workers (after they fired basically everyone and the rest left on their own): Joe Burnell as engineering technical director, David Wheater as technical director of aero, and Ciaron Pilbeam as performance technical director
Mohammed Ben Sulayem spent some time in Turkey this week to talk to the president about a potential return of Turkish gp (probably as a part of a new rotation programme I mentioned in previous round up)
Abbi Pulling will be racing in British F4 Championship besides F1 Academy this year
Gerhard Berger's long lost Ferrari car was returned to him after police located it late last year
last week's Bahrain GP was the first time in history where all 20 cars finished the opening race of the season (speaking of Bahrain, Charles, Lewis and George were losing around 5/6 tenths per lap due to their car issues, Carlos, Logan and Alex also experienced smaller gap in pace because of their issues)
Williams announced their fanzone locations for 2024 season (Australia, Japan, Miami, Canada, Spain, Great Britain, Singapore, Austin, Las Vegas)
Spanish king Juan Carlos was at Bahrain GP and before you ask yourself, yes he took a picture with Carlos Sainz sr and Carlos Sainz jr (also fun fact he was involved in money-laundering case with Saudi Arabia but Swiss prosecutor had to drop the case due to lack of evidence)
Saudi Arabia showed plans for Qiddiya track to host gp from 2027 onwards designed by Tilke which features a turn 20 stories above ground level which could replace Jeddah in the future (did they heard us complaining about jeddah being dangerous and decided to make it even more dangerous?)
Red Bull Racing scored a record breaking new multiple-year partnership deal with Castore worth about 200m dollars
Otmar Szafnauer teamed up with Soft Pauer to make an app which is meant to help F1 teams with travel plans and Hitech is already a client of his while he claims Alpine also downloaded it
Pato O'Ward agreen on multi-year IndyCar contract extension with McLaren
From fan's point of view:
please be prepared for pr wars this year at multiple places: between Yuki and Daniel (recently due to highly controversial team order call), Charles and Carlos (recently due to false media narrative about car issues), Lewis and George (recently about effectivity of different race set ups)
we have press conference for tomorrow made up by: Lance, Charles, Nico, George, Yuki and Val (we also have one for team principals made of Bruno Famin from Alpine, Mike Krack from Aston Martin, Christian Horner from Red Bull Racing and James Vowles from Williams)
C2 challenges are back for this year with first of their quickfire challenges being already posted
little rant about the "F1 pundits" not checking their sources, because you might have seen the discourse but not get the background: Lawrence Baretto posted his usual section "Losers and Winners" of Bahrain gp and posted Charles in the section category (which would be correct considering he lost out on P2 because of brake issues), but he clearly went off with what Carlos said in the media and claimed that both drivers had the same issues - a fact that Charles, Xavi, and Fred himself disputed
more drivers did photo dumps: Alex, Yuki, Carlos
some drivers were modelling, particularly Charles, Carlos and Daniel
Max Verstappen made some championship predictions (Verstappen, Hamilton, Leclerc) and there has been a lot of talk about him not mentioning Perez so just a PSA
reminder that this week the gp is on Saturday because of Ramadan and besides F1, you can also look forward to F2, F1 Academy and Indycar races

GRACE F1 LORE
Thanks for tagging me @wisteria-wisteria <3
1. Who or what got you into F1?
Basic bitch answer but my dad. He was a big fan, and his dad was a fan. I was plonked infront of the TV to watch it as a kid, and grew up never missing a race. That was until Sky Sports braught it off chanel 4, and now my family can't afford to watch it anymore. I have to pirate it now coz I AINT PAYING 50 A MONTH go fuck yourself Sky Sports.
2.Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
Probably Lewis? Or Jenson? I was (still am) a Mclaren fan as a kid, and my dad always cheered on English drivers, so I just copied him. I still love them both now, my opinions havn't changed on them at all!
3.Who’s your current favourite F1 driver?
Current grid? Probably Max, Fernando or Oscar. They are all so so talented, it's just a pivalidge to watch them drive. I think they're all really funny in their own ways too.
My favourite driver ever? Senna, obviously. Or Prost.... Can't ever pick.
4.Is there a driver pairing or pairings you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
I support all and any pairings. F1 RPF in all forms is delicious thankyou. My faves are: Prost X Senna, Carlos X Lando, Max X Charles, Peroni X Villeneuve, George X alex, Mika X Michael, and Nigel X Elio.
The only ship I don't really vibe with is Pierre X Charles? Like idk I just don't feel it. But I'll still read it so lol
5. Do your parents, siblings or relatives have a favourite team and/or favourite driver(s)?
My dad supports Mclaren same as me. My sister isn't really into it? She finds charles hot and will watch edits of him but shes never watched a race or really gives a shit about the actual driving. Shes here for the thirst traps and Ferrari merchandise and I respect that so much.
6. Do you have any favourite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
Dallas, Texas 1984. What a fucking shit show. Absolute comedy sketch. Everything about that dumb race is so funny to me.
7. Do you have a favourite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.
Hungaroing! It was the first F1 race I ever attended, and the joy I get out of watching it and screaming 'IVE BEEN THERE IVE BEEN THERE' never leaves. The first race in person was special, so hungaoring is special now too.
8. Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like
Yes. And I don't know why but I was so shocked at how friendly everyone was. I think I was expecting it to be like football, but everyone got along so well no matter the teams ect. I always get general admission now, because its so much fun to sit and make new friends with other F1 freaks!!! Everyone shares food, alcohol, blankets, brollies ect- its alwaus such a good atmosphere at everywhere I've been.
9. Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?
Yes. Seb and Jenson. In the same day. I nearly exploded, but actually managed to come off very normal and composed.
10. Do you have a favourite F1 car? If so, what is it?
McLaren MP4/4 1988.
LOOK AT IT
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The details, the colours, the absoulte perfection of the livery, and of course the V8 underneath that gave way to MCAREN DOMINATION. Shes perfect.
11. Do you have a favourite one win wonder?
Gerhard Berger or charles.
12. Do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? This can either be inspirational or hilarious.
Anything that comes out of Alain Prost's mouth. That man should be a fucking poet. Also- "I'm cuming on your camera mate" hahah
I tag @astirian , @bluesourkiwi , @kimizilla , @whobuilthemoon , @penseesauvageand @eliorosb3rg. Or whoever wants to do itttt love u all

Verstappen achieves his longest winning streak with second home victory | 2022 Dutch Grand Prix stats and facts
Max Verstappen’s victory in last weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix was his fourth in a row, making this the longest winning streak of his Formula 1 career. Only a small number of drivers have won as many as four races in a row, and Verstappen will be among rare company if he adds a fifth this weekend at Monza, a track he has never won at before. The record is some way off, however: Sebastian Vettel had a run of nine successive wins in 2013. The Red Bull driver thrilled the Zandvoort crowd with his second home win in a row since the race returned to the calendar last year. It was the 30th win of his career. Capping a superb performance, Verstappen added pole position and fastest lap, for the fifth ‘hat trick’ of his career. This was his 17th pole position, putting him level with Jackie Stewart, and 21st fastest lap, equalling Gerhard Berger. Russell looks a threat for the runner-up spot Verstappen has now won 10 races this year, which with seven races remaining means there is a serious chance he will break the record of 13 wins in a season, held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. They achieved those records over 18 and 19-race seasons respectively. George Russell finished second, equalling the best result of his career to date. However his previous second place finish came in last year’s farcical Belgian Grand Prix, the result of which was declared based on a single lap spent behind the Safety Car. For the fourth race in a row, Russell took points off Charles Leclerc, and the pair are now separated by 13. Russell’s prediction that one of the Mercedes drivers could end the season second in the drivers’ championship looks increasingly realistic. Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free Third place for Leclerc meant he returned to the podium for the first time since he won the Austrian Grand Prix. In the four races since then he’s lost 71 points to Verstappen, whose second championship triumph is now virtually assured. Last weekend also marked the first time this year Leclerc has gone two races in a row without leading a lap. Stroll finishes 10th for the fifth time in 2022 Although Hamilton sunk to fourth place at the chequered flag, he enjoyed his most competitive showing of the season so far, leading 14 laps as he bids to avoid completing his first ever win-free season in F1. For the second race in a row a post-race time penalty for one of the Ferrari drivers benefitted Fernando Alonso, who moved up to sixth place as a result. Largely due to a variety of misfortunes, Alonso has lagged behind team mate Esteban Ocon in the championship all season, but has now closed to within seven points of him. Lance Stroll achieved his fifth points finish of the season, but all of these have been for 10th place, meaning he is on just five points. George in the Ocean of Waving Grass by Klaus Voormann.
“George Harrison was my favorite person, I loved him more than anything.” - Klaus Voormann, Typisch Deutsch, Deutsche Welle, 2009
“The last time I saw George was in summer 2001. He invited me to come to Austria where he stayed at Gerhard Berger’s house in Going. Even though all these cancer therapies had left their marks, behind his hearty laugh and his bright eyes one would have never suspected a seriously ill man. We were having a break after a walk, resting in the grass when suddenly he looked at me and said: ‘Do you know that it has taken me many, many years until I realized how special these meadows with their soft grasses are to me? Somehow I feel we have a very close relationship. I just love the seemingly endless meadows with their long and soft grasses and the waves they make when the wind is blowing. It’s like cherishing the wind of life rather than struggling against it all the time. So, Klaus, when I’m gone, all you have to do is stand in a meadow, feel the waving grass and I will be close to you.’” - Klaus Voormann, voormann.com (x)

Ships that I would die for F1 Edition 3.0
Tumblr media
( this is also a guide for new F1 fans that want to know more about the driver , the fans , and the ships / this is the part.3 of this post so go check Part.1, Part.2, Part.4, Part.5 Part.6, Part.7) Not my gifs
Mika Hakkinen x Michael Schumacher :
Tumblr media
Schumacher once said Mika Hakkinen was his biggest opponent, but what was a big rivalry in the races , was also a big friendship , and bromance off and sometimes on the grid . They both respected each other and always praised each other’s performances . But that wasn’t the only think that made their friendship stand out , what made people believe in their true friendship was in 2000 when Michael equaled his race winnings to the diseases Ayrton Senna, Schumacher broke into tears , and Mika was right there to comfort as co-worker and friend, even asking the press conference to give Michael a break . 💙
Max Verstappen x Charles Leclerc :
Tumblr media
Max and Charles know each other from their years in carting as most of the drivers on their age range , but as they got to f1 a rivalry started to form between the two . Max taking the reputation of an aggressive driver who always goes for the overtake, to himself also contributed for them to have a collision . That did make the mood between them a little shaky but let’s face it Max has far worts beefs with other people ( Esteban cough cough Ocon ).❤️
Ayrton Senna x Gerhard Berger :
Tumblr media
After the super toxic relationship Alan Prost and Ayrton Senna had, the swap from Prost to Bergers was seen as a good change of mood for the Mclaren team . What happened next made fans and the team even happier, Gerhard settled to his “number two” role in Mclaren , and started a very good friendship with Senna. However it did end bitterly as Ayrton departed from Mclaren to go to Williams with his story in formula 1 ending tragically with his death in the San Marino race in 1994 .❤️
Norstappen/ Maxando :
Tumblr media
I have to say I was quite surprised when I came to know of this relationship, Max and Lando knew each other from their carting days but, seeing that’s Max is known to be a person who doesn’t make many friendships on track, I was a little skeptical. But I was convinced of their relationship/ bromance also because of the quarantine. Where Max and Lando not only played COD together , but we found out that, Max watches Lando’s live streams at twitch. The bromance between these two became even more powerful when they played on the online gran prix that brought together drivers from different modalities. In the instance when one of the drivers openly spoke in taking out Lando as this third party felt threatened by Norris. Verstappen went into his protective mode and showed the other driver that if he messed with Norris , he would also be messing with him. 🧡💙
Charles Leclerc x Alex Albon :
Tumblr media
This bromance at least for me also started as many of the bromances of the new era, because of the pandemic. Alex Albon showed himself as being one of of the shyest rookies on the 2019 season , but he truly started to show more of his personality when he played video games with George , Charles and Lando . In one of those instances in wich him Charles and Albon’s little brother played fortnite . But there are other situations were their bromance really shows , such as the instance when Alex did some kind of sound , and that made Charles almost piss himself from laughing. 💙❤️
To be continued...

Father’s Nazi Past Overtakes German Business Guru
Tumblr media
FRANKFURT — In his heyday, Roland Berger may have been the best-connected man in Germany. He advised chancellors and chief executives, founded one of Europe’s leading management consulting firms and rode Germany’s postwar rebound to become one of the country’s richest self-made men. Business magazines put him on the cover. But in the twilight of his career, Mr. Berger’s image as ubiquitous boardroom consigliere and icon of the German economy is at risk. An exposé by the newspaper Handelsblatt asserts that he repeatedly misrepresented a key element of his personal history, portraying his father as a Nazi resister when in fact he was a high-ranking official. The fallout from the Handelsblatt revelations has been devastating for the reputation of Mr. Berger, 82, and the foundation he endowed with 50 million euros, or $55 million, of his own money. The Roland Berger Foundation was forced last month to cancel a ceremony to bestow its annual Human Dignity Awards after two of the three recipients said they would no longer accept. The ceremony was to be held at the Jewish Museum in Berlin.Mr. Berger had often invoked his father, Georg Berger, as an inspiration for the award.“We had the Gestapo come to our house every six weeks,” Mr. Berger told an audience in Munich in 2017. “My father was locked up at some point.” That is why, Mr. Berger said, “I award the Human Dignity Award to people who contribute to freedom and tolerance, human rights and values all over the world.”The prize was a major event, with €1 million, or $1.1 million, divided among the winners. For many years, Kofi Annan, the former secretary general of the United Nations, led the jury that selected recipients. Historical documents uncovered by Handelsblatt and viewed by The New York Times present a less heroic picture of Georg Berger, who died in 1977. They show that he was an early member of the Nazi party who later served as chief bookkeeper for the Hitler Youth. Rudolf Hess, Adolf Hitler’s deputy, once wrote him a letter of recommendation. In the early 1940s, when Roland was a small boy, the Berger family lived in an elegant villa in Vienna that had been seized from deported Jews, the documents indicate. That would not matter so much if Roland Berger had not later made Georg Berger’s biography a part of his personal legend. In interviews, Mr. Berger said his father had joined the Nazi party in the early 1930s but left in protest after an orgy of anti-Semitic violence in November 1938 revealed the party’s malevolent intentions. Georg Berger then became a target of Nazi prosecution, in the son’s telling.Mr. Berger told of heartbreaking visits to his father in Gestapo detention, and said his father was later held at Dachau, the notorious concentration camp near Munich. Handelsblatt’s research indicated that Georg Berger indeed ran afoul of Hitler’s regime, but not until 1942. He was accused of illegally hoarding food, not political resistance. The research cast doubt on whether Georg Berger was incarcerated by the Nazis, and indicated that he remained a member of the party until 1944.It is unclear whether Mr. Berger was simply repeating stories he had heard from his father or was aware that some elements were untrue. There are ambiguities in the case. After the war, Allied tribunals that scrutinized Georg Berger’s past concluded that he was both Nazi collaborator and victim.Through a spokeswoman, Mr. Berger declined a request for an interview. He has hired two well-known professors, Michael Wolffsohn, an authority on German-Jewish history, and Sönke Neitzel, an expert on World War II, to examine the records.“Should this investigation lead to new insights into his father’s role and responsibilities, Roland Berger is, of course, prepared to revise his father’s image,” a statement issued by the foundation said.Mr. Wolffsohn said in an email that he and Mr. Neitzel did not want to comment until their report is finished early next year. German companies have often had to apologize for collaborating with the Nazis or for falsely claiming to have resisted Hitler’s regime. Volkswagen, Daimler and Deutsche Bank have hired outside historians to document their use of slave labor or contribution to the German war machine. The Reimann family, which controls the company that owns brands such as Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Peet’s Coffee, Pret A Manger and Keurig, has recently begun to grapple with the firm’s use of slave labor during World War II and enthusiastic support of the Nazis. In 2002, Bertelsmann, the German media company that owns the publisher Penguin Random House, was forced to retract assertions, long part of company lore, that the Nazis had shut it down in 1944 for publishing banned books. In fact, Bertelsmann was the largest supplier of books to the German Army, including titles with anti-Semitic themes. But Mr. Berger’s case is unusual. Born in November 1937, he was only 7 when Germany surrendered. Mr. Berger appears to have said little about his father until around 2003, when he gave up day-to-day management of the firm he founded in 1967, Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. The firm is one of the few European consultants able to compete with American giants like McKinsey & Company. In addition to chief executives of blue-chip companies, Mr. Berger advised political leaders including Helmut Kohl, the long-serving German chancellor. After Mr. Kohl’s conservative party was defeated in 1998, Mr. Berger became an adviser to the new socialist chancellor, Gerhard Schröder. While management consultants usually prefer to operate in the shadows, Mr. Berger cultivated a personal brand. He often gave interviews and commissioned a portrait of himself by Andy Warhol.Georg Berger, his father, was a veteran of World War I who in 1921 joined a business group close to Hitler. In 1931, two years before Hitler came to power, Georg Berger joined the Nazi Party. At the time, he worked as a freelance bookkeeper. In 1936, Georg Berger swore allegiance to Hitler in the same Munich beer hall where the Nazis had launched an unsuccessful putsch attempt in 1923. The oath was a prerequisite for becoming chief bookkeeper of the Hitler Youth.Documents show that Georg Berger resigned his post with the Hitler Youth for unspecified health reasons in September 1939. That was almost a year after so-called Kristallnacht, when Nazi-inspired mobs burned synagogues and destroyed Jewish-owned shops. Contrary to the version presented by Roland Berger, Georg Berger continued to pay Nazi party dues until 1944.In 1940, Georg Berger became general manager of Ankerbrot, Austria’s largest bakery, with help from Nazi officials. The business in Vienna had been seized from Jewish owners who had been forced to flee. The first sign that Georg Berger was falling out of favor with the Nazis came in 1942. Acting on tips, the Gestapo twice raided the villa in Vienna where the Berger family lived. The secret police found evidence that Georg Berger was illegally hoarding butter, eggs, soap and other scarce items that were strictly rationed at the time, according to Gestapo documents. The elder Berger was also accused of diverting workers from the bakery to do renovations at the villa. His file in the German Federal Archives does not indicate what punishment, if any, was imposed. The Roland Berger Foundation suggested that the accusations against Georg Berger might have been politically motivated, and that the charges of hoarding were merely a pretense.“Nazi and Gestapo documents often have a denunciatory character and often reflect conflicts over power and influence within Nazi institutions,” the statement said. After the war, the Allies held Georg Berger in an internment camp. Like thousands of other functionaries and businessmen, he was brought before a tribunal to determine how actively he had supported Hitler’s regime. The tribunal heard testimony that Georg Berger had been imprisoned by the Gestapo and escaped being sent to Dachau only because a sympathizer inside the secret police intervened. Instead, according to the testimony, the elder Berger was sent as a soldier to the Eastern Front — a marginally better fate — where the Soviet Army captured him.Testimony presented at these so-called denazification hearings was notoriously unreliable. Many of the accused recruited friends or family to lie on their behalf and to reinvent them as resisters and dissidents.Georg Berger’s Gestapo file makes no mention of imprisonment, Dachau or the Russian front. Handelsblatt said its team of reporters had scoured archives in Germany and Austria and found no evidence that the Nazis incarcerated him or that he was a prisoner of war.The denazification tribunal as well as an appeals panel later classified Georg Berger as a low-level Nazi collaborator. He was barred from holding influential positions in business, politics or media for two years. The more favorable portrait of Georg Berger later presented by Roland Berger may simply have been the work of a son eager to believe his father was a hero. But much of the information, such as the dates of Georg Berger’s Nazi party membership, were readily available in archives. A person with Mr. Berger’s resources could have easily checked.“Roland Berger did not conceal any information about his father,” the Roland Berger Foundation said. “He just didn’t have all the documents.” Source link Read the full article

Meinungsfreiheit in München - Mitschnitt
Tumblr media
Meinungsfreiheit in Gefahr
Forts. s. link! Either way the show is underway, with the 30-second rule for speeches still in play (they didn’t listen much last night, if you’re scoring at home).
