Skyward Sword Zelda is such a tragic figure in my opinion. Just put yourself in her shoes and imagine this.
It's the best day of your life. Your dearest friend, dork that he is, has finally become a knight. It's what every kid on Skyloft works towards and he finally did it. You're so proud of him. When you fly together, you muster up the courage to tell him you love him.
You never get the chance.
Instead you're whisked away into a world you believed was left behind, and saved by a woman who declares that she is your guardian, chosen by you. You have never met her before. You didn't even know there were people like you who lived down here, in the Surface.
"You must purify yourself if you are to transcend time and hold the seal," the mysterious woman with the painted tear remarks as she shepherds you through strange destinations unlike anything your books have ever taught you, "it was your will." No matter how many times she tells you this, in every iteration the language could allow, it doesn't make sense. Why would a goddess need to turn human? What could you do, that she could not?
Where does divinity and humanity diverge?
Connection.
A goddess is revered by her people who pray, in spite of her silence, for her benevolence and guidance. She is their unwavering stone, a higher power to rely on. But a girl? A girl is loved. She is someone tangible, a figure who people will see, and know, and care about, and fight for.
And that's when it clicks. Your friend isn't really your friend at all, but a hero, a pawn, who was intended to be used against an enemy of yours you no longer recognize.
You're using him. You've been using him all this time. It's sickening.
With each prayer, with each goddess damned spring you rush to, you are faced with your own marbled reflection, a testament to the fact your humanity is only a pretense, carefully timed to ensnare your friend into a hero's fate.
He doesn't seem to understand that though. He keeps running after you like the fool he is, hoping to save Zelda, his precious Zelda, that you no longer are. The smile you wear becomes harder to hold. You were Hylia first, and that is all you will ever be.
You play into the charade anyways. After all, Zelda was the reason why he went through his trials. To tell him now that she was gone would mean to destroy everything you had worked for. So you tell him everything he wants to hear: that you're your father's daughter, that you're his friend, that you're his Zelda.
And when you close your eyes, smiling from within the amber and ignoring the dull thuds of his fist against its surface, you wonder if you look anything like the statue you and your love had stood upon on the best day of your life.
"Maybe all of this is a dream," you wonder while drifting in between millennia. Time passes like the waterfalls in Skyloft, rapid, yet everlasting. Maybe you'd wake up in your bed in the Academy again. Your love would have been sleeping in (again) and everything would be how it used to be. You could be Zelda once more. And most importantly, Hylia would be nothing beyond a giant statue for you to ignore for the rest of your days.
... There's something to be said about how you fall again once you wake up.
"What kind of goddess am I," you think crudely, "to sever my own wings?"
But this time, your love is there to catch you. And he does. In that moment you pray, in your own name, he doesn't let you go.

You Reunite After Not Confessing Part 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Masterlist
Part 1 Part 2
Part 3 will include Wind, Sky and Four.
Content under the cut!
Wind
Wind was back in his boat out at sea. It was fairly quiet with most of the monsters already taken care of.
He found that there wasn’t actually much to do anymore. He had sailed over most of his world had to offer and the water was still damaging so he couldn’t explore anymore of what was under it- especially now that he had a better idea of what was there to begin with.
He almost missed the time when his boat was able to talk to him but he knew better now. It was just quiet.
He never thought he’d hate the quiet.
Wind was a bit lonely to say the least. He had his home, his island and his family but lately he’s been missing the group he had found when he went through that portal. But he was also missing you.
There was so much he still wanted to talk to you about and he had promised you to show the Great Sea and his island and the very small world he had at his disposal. But he never got to do that.
Wind was peacefully being rocked to sleep by the gentle waves of the ocean when he heard it.
A scream.
Followed by a very loud splash and immediately thrashing water.
Wind shoots up in the boat, nearly knocking it over as he looks for the cause of the sound.
He can see the flying water out in the distance and quickly moves his boat to go and meet whoever might be in need of saving. Although, he has half the mind to ask how they even came this far out into the ocean to begin with. He’s in the middle of nowhere and there’s nothing that would have just dropped a person in the middle of the ocean.
He sails as quickly as he can to help and doesn’t think twice about grabbing the person and hauling them onto his boat even when it threatens to capsize in the moment.
They get thrown on board and wind takes a moment to catch his breath. “Are you ok?”
“Y-yeah...” You cough and spit out as much ocean water as you can. “I think so.”
Wind shoots up again and nearly throws you both over the boat once more. He cries out your name in shocked delighted. “HEY! You’re here!”
You cough some more and look up at him for a moment. Recognition lights up your eyes and you tackling him in a hug, forgetting that you’re absolutely soaking wet. “HEY! I missed you!”
He laughs and hugs you with just as much fervor. “What are you doing here?”
“I have no idea!” You shout back, wiping the water from your face once more. “I just fell and next thing I knew I was here!”
“Come on...” Wind can’t ignore the way his heart starts beating again just seeing you again. He helps you get situated in his boat quickly and opens the sail to head back. “Let’s get you taken care of first. It’s not good to stay wet for long. You might get sick.”
You grab his hand before he can call up the Wind Waker to give you both a boost in he right direction. “Link?”
Wind pauses and his mouth goes dry. Why is it suddenly different when you actually call him by his name? “Yes?”
“I really really missed you.” You admit quietly with a soft blush on your cheek.
Wind coughs and holds your hand tightly for a moment. “Yeah... Me too.”
Sky
Sky was busy.
When he returned home to Skyloft after it all, the first thing he wanted to do was do something different. He had left his home in the sky and dived for the surface once more.
He poured his energy and soul into fixing up the settlement into something comfortable for his people to live in. He needed to have everything perfect for when you would come by. Realistically, he knew that you would be centuries after his death day but that wasn’t going to stop him.
That being said, he wasn’t expecting to wake up to you banging on his door one morning.
You threw yourself at him and tackled him to the ground.
He was too shocked to say anything at first. Sky could only put his hands on your shoulders and stare.
“Thank Hylia! A familiar face!” You cried and tucked yourself into the crook of his neck. “SKKYYY!!! I MISSED YOUU!!”
Sky feels a laugh bubble out of his throat. As the reality of the situation dawns on him, he can feel himself get more and more excited. He hugs you back tightly and falls backwards.
“YOU!!” He shouts and rolls around with you in his arms. “I missed you too! What are you doing here?!”
“I don’t know!”
“How do you not know?!”
“I don’t know!!! But I don’t care!” You grin and wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him closer to you.
Sky laughs too and hugs you some more. “Alright! Well then welcome to the surface settlement!”
You both grin at each other and take the moment to just look at each other. You’ve both changed in the time you were apart.
While you both were taking the time to study one another and the way you’ve both matured, you find yourselves moving in, leaning closer to one another.
Your noses touch and you both jolt away from each other.
“Sorry.” Sky blushes and gets to his feet. He holds out his hand to you. “Sorry, sorry. I don’t know.”
“Can I kiss you?” You blurt and Sky freezes.
You both stare at each other again before Sky bites the bullet and dives in, kissing you like he’s wanted to since before he left the group.
You put your hands in his hair and pull him closer.
When you pull apart, he kisses you once, twice more and then takes a deep breath. “I’ve been wanting to do that.”
You laugh breathlessly and smile. “Honestly... I probably could have waited longer for that.... I’m glad I didn’t have to.”
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Four
Four eventually found himself back in the familiar grooves of routine.
Working in the forge was calming, mindless yet detail oriented work. That’s to say he daydreamed as he worked. Quite the contrary actually.
He was so laser focused on the jobs and commissions he had to complete that he didn’t have much time to miss the people he’s met on his last journey. Not any more at last.
He likes to think that he’s grown past the idea of despair and abandonment. He knows what’s happened and he’s almost sure that he’s grown enough that the wounds have healed by now. It’s enough to get him through the day without thinking about the others and what they be doing.
Or you... But he tries to not eve think that far into your general direction.
He’s deep in his work when he hears the familiar sound of the front desk being rung. Part of him curses his luck. He’s at a moment where he can’t afford to be from his project for very long or else something could go wrong. And he’s never been fond of starting over.
It rings again.
“Coming!” He shouts at the top of his lungs. He has to. Or else is ever going to hear him over the roar of the forge around him.
Making a split decision, he puts the water into the bucket of water next to him and allows it to cool. He’ll get back to the point he was at to finish the job.
Four shakes off his gloves and moves his apron to the side as he comes to the front side of his shop. “Sorry for the wait. You caught me at a busy hou-...”
You’re standing in front of him, wringing your hands in front of you, nervously shifting your weight from foot to foot. You jolt once you notice him and nearly take a step back. You smile but it’s awkward and stinted. “...Hey... Long time not see?”
Four is gobsmacked.
It appears you weren’t anticipating his reaction- or rather his lack of one. You seem to grow more nervous. “I uh... I thought I’d find you here.”
Four keeps staring at you. The curtain separating the shop from the forge falls from his grip and gently falls behind him.
You lick your lips nervously. A subtle movement that Four shamelessly follows despite himself.
“I went to your house earlier.” You blurt when he fails to reply or fill the silence. “It took me a while to remember where I was but when I realized that this was your Hyrule I figured I should try to find you. But you weren’t home. This was my second best bet but I didn’t know where it was so I asked your dad and he told me the the way but I think I got lost in the middle of it all-”
You’re rambling and Four feels himself unstick his feet and slowly walk towards you. For some reason you seem to be stuck where you are and merely wait for him to approach you. Four’s glad, even if he’s not entirely sure why you’re here.
“I- wait! Look!” You try to defend yourself from his silent ‘judgement’. “Ok, so before you say anything I want to say that I did try to get here by following directions. I asked like three different people on how to get here but I guess you painted it since I last came here? I thought I remembered it being a brown building but now it’s red. Or maybe it’s always been red and light was weird-”
Four hugs you.
“Oh.” You relax instantly, wrapping your arms around him without a second thought..
“...This is nice.”

There was little refuge for Link on the surface, that much he knew. That much the world made incredibly apparent. Aside from what little lands like that of the kikwi or the ancient temple, there was little non-hostile life. The sun was fading from the sky, Hylia’s light fading from the surface land, letting monsters run rampant across the untamed earth. Not a particularly pleasant situation given the stab wound he’d nursed, limping through the forest as he tried to find a way home. With no statues in sight, he resigned himself to his fate —alone within an unkind world. Not that it’s a first that he’s felt such a manner, everyone knew everyone in Skyloft, his business was never truly his. And with Groose and his goons taunting him for his every breath, there wasn’t much to say for company. He could be surrounded by people, and yet he was —to some level— still alone. That was, aside from Zelda, missing among this realm. There was some small, nagging part of him that wish he needn’t search for her. Sure, he valued her companionship, and yet… it’s been odd lately. Originally he kept from the sky to be with her once more. But now knowing he was a piece in a prophecy —one she knew, no less— he couldn’t help but question the authenticity of their friendship. He feels wrong about it to question. The hylian people serve Hylia, he should be grateful that he’s been sent on a mission she foretold. He should be so many things. It just seems added onto the pile of things he should be. More outgoing, Zelda would say after he’d share his difficulty with speaking to his peers. Less pathetic, Groose and his lackeys would sneer. Dead, He’d often think, looking at the bags under his eyes and tousled hair. So it seemed irrelevant that Hylia wished he’d be heroic. The small decaying temple looked surprisingly stable from the inside. Vines and mosses grew into the cracks within the marble, nature filling in where people could no longer support. The door was easily blocked and the main area was large enough to safely light a fire without smoking himself out. Above a plinth stood a statue, sharp imposing eyes glaring at whomever entered with judgement. Their face was alight with the golds of the fire, setting in the allure within his mind. Looking down past stone ceremonial robes were offerings, placed at their feet, still fresh despite the centuries since any people lived down here. A deity, he noticed a little too late. Perhaps it was sacreligious of him to stay here, the Hero of Hylia taking refuge in a different god’s home. But perhaps that kingdom has since crumbled, their blades too rusted to do him any harm. The blood seeping through his tunic was the least of his concerns as sleep pulled him in familiar as ever.
Link liked to sleep. It was safe and warm, something quite the contrast to the life he’d led. He wished many times both before his journey and since its onset that he could stay asleep forever. It’d be a blessing, to exist in such a state of peaceful serenity outside of a world defined by its wars. And yet, morning after morning, he’d awake to soft sunlight or be shoved out of his bed. Hylia did not wait on him. So waking up to fingers carding softly through his hair as a lullaby —one his memories could just barely grasp at— was a sharp contrast. He felt no pain in his stomach nor the jolt of adrenaline he was used to. Turning around sleepily, he saw you, the very deity he seeked refuge under. He scrambled to apologize, your sharp eyes looking down upon him as he lay strewn across your body.
“I’m- Oh- I-“ He could not, for whatever reason, speak. Much a common theme in his life that whenever he needed his words, they’d fly away faster than a loftwing. Strong arms tightened around him, shushes and soothes whispered to his pointed ears.
“Be at ease. Your goddess cannot find you here” The fingers resumed carding through his hair, twirling the uneven cuts. “You are safe, little hero” Your words bled with a care and endearment he had not been given in so long. His mind latched to you, to your care and your soft treatment of him. He let himself rest limply, telling himself that it would pass soon. Nothing ever stays this good for this long. And yet, there were no monsters to kick in the door or someone waiting on him. There was just you and him. And no other God watching. “She’s put you through so much.” Your statement hangs in the air as Link can’t find the words that dignify a response. “To wander in here bleeding as badly as you were.” His eyes widen and he does his best to pat his tunic, feeling for the blood. And yet there was none. Aside from the rip in the forest fabric, there was no signs of him ever being injured.
“What?” His brows furrowed and he found himself looking up to you. Your skin held an inhuman glint, a glow to it that needed no sun nor fire to illuminate. Your hunter’s eyes had no iris, a scalara of pure white looking back at him. Your lips here pulled to something of a mischievous smirk as you looked upon him.
“I fixed you.” Your tone was a little uncanny, voice unused to conversing. “I used to do it frequently for the before people” He felt his eyes widen marginally. He’d never heard of the ‘before people’ only if what came after them. He knew naught of their societies, nor their deities. You giggled at his curiosity, pressing lightly on his shoulders so he’d lay back down. “It’s been so long since i’ve had such lovely visitors” Your voice was a far off cry in his mind as he buried his face in the nape of your neck. There was no rushing of blood to lull his own rushing mind, and yet you soothed him all the same. “Rest now, little Hero. I will watch the world in your stead.
There were many times afterwards that he visited you. He’d put a beacon near the clearing where your quiet temple sat. Gone was the comfort of absence that came with sleep, that nullifying expanse of nothingness. Instead, he’d seek out you, the glow of your grace soothing the rage he now brought upon the world. At your Altar he’d leave gifts, anything you’d mentioned in passing or anything he knew must’ve been good. You’d offhandedly speak of how much you missed the ancient cistern, and he’d bring you its water. He’d gather the fruit of the Faron woods, making into pies and jam and alcohol for you to feed off of. It wasn’t often, but he’d occasionally get you blood or meat. Not common, he didn’t want to raise concerns, but he knew the spirits would strengthen you. You may have only had a one man clergy, but he was loyal to a fault. He cleared the surface of monsters so you could roam freely, basking in the moonlight as your fingers brushed the grass. His favorite gift to you came in the form of a plume of crimson feathers. You were quite oblivious to the meaning behind the exchange, instead cooing over the bright colors and imagining the majesty of the bird it came from. But he knew that maybe then the other half of his spirit —as the people said— would mingle with your own to care for you as much as you did him. Bound to you perhaps by fate and now with the matrimony of his gift to you, no longer would you lay forgotten to the world. He’d build an empire in your honor if it would be your wish. He’d kill the goddess who subdued you if it were your ruling. Afterall, he was prophesied to kill a deity.

Look familiar? Bounty Hunter and magic user turned Deity, Ko'jin. Later dubbed as the "Fierce Deity."
Other outfits are a wip. I was gonna wait until they were done but couldn't resist sharing what I was working on for a week.
Masterpost | Lineup | Ko-fi - More info under the cut! This one’s gonna be a pretty long one and the last half below will have the text on the image (coz tumblr’s probably gonna eat the quality) plus some notes sprinkled in.
Plus a look at the Moon Serpent, a common form Ko'jin takes. I'd like to think the Moon Serpent is more commonly known by his followers than the man himself. There are others he takes, like the Silver Wolf, but the dragon is the one most associated with him.
He's relatively unknown after the war before Skyloft's ascent, his image having been completely removed from history. The few traces of him by OOT/MM would be oral tradition, specifically through family members as bedtime stories and legends to tell. Stories about a curious serpent and a powerful artifact.
After the events of MM, the Moon Serpent becomes active again and the festivals dedicated to it return.
Text on the image + extra notes:
Ko’jin, Bounty hunter chosen by Goddess Farore.
“Ko’jin” is not his real name. Once a mortal becomes a god, they abandon their original name. He was never given a proper one again aside from nicknames by worshippers and other deities. Ko’jin is a nickname given to him by his future wife when they first met.
He wears facepaint which is mixed with magic to bolster strength and speed. And later he would get tattoos that did the same [seen later].
Before becoming a god he was a bounty hunter [and popular at that, often being the favorite of a neighboring town]. He would take commission to hunt down monsters many others refused to go near.
Ko’jin has a strong affinity for magic [he uses it practically every day] and often imbues the edges of his sword with darkness magic. Though, the element given to his sword can still vary depending on what or who he’s fighting.
His undersuit and white tunic are much more protective than the brass chainmail, which instead is used more for artistic liberty than function.
“Early Days Moon Serpent”
Ko’jin’s god form was often a dragon for the ease of guiding lost spirits to the afterlife [he’s a judgement god with a very strong connection to the dead and guiding those spirits became his secondary function].
[During the first war with Demise] Soldiers often saw this form as the “Spirit of Courage” and their protector. They worshipped him and gave him gifts in hopes that he’d watch over him [and guide them to a better afterlife if they were to fall in battle (that secondary function). He basically became a huge symbol for soldiers specifically and I feel like this would feed the “War God” title he was given way later on despite not actually being a War God.]
In many ancient artifacts [ones that could be found at least], the Moon Serpent would be as either a two-headed serpent or two separate beings with their horns crossed. [There’s going to be a lot of “two’s” with him. Two swords, two lives, etc. in depictions of him the two heads/bodies of the serpent would be called “the Body” and “the Spirit”. Later on he’s split into two to be sealed away in a similar theme. “Two lives” refers to the before and after his sealing as he loses his memory of his “past life” and becomes a new person (hence a different appearance). I can see Hylia having foresaw a lot of this tbh.]

“I still can’t believe that link, I mean of all people to fall in love with, you chose the person who was playing through your game? You could have been with a literal reincarnation of your goddess. ”
“You know none of the others were real right? I’m the only one who was alive… as far as I’m aware or care.”
“Still, I can’t believe you don’t resent me even a little bit. I made you re-live your quest so many times and I didn’t even know you were alive.”
All I get in return for that is a playful eye roll like I’d told him a dumb joke rather than confessing how awfully I treated him when he was trapped. It’s rather unnerving how calm he is about all of this, but I really shouldn’t push it any more. I don’t think it would be a pleasant mess to clean up if he snapped and did realise everything he’s been through wasn’t right.
“Can’t this wait until the morning love? We’ve both been through a lot today so we should get some rest right?”
He’s still insisting on calling me that? I do like it, my childhood crush speaking to me like I’m his lover, but something about it seems so wrong.
“Sure, right, fine. I’ve got a guest room and some spare pyjamas you can borrow link.”
“Thank you [name].”
The feeling of something being off with his attitude only grows as he gently grabs my hand while I’m showing him where he can stay. He’s too possessive about this, too happy, even for getting out of a hellscape that his game must’ve been for him, it’s unnerving. My guest room is small and simple with a bed, a small desk and a wardrobe, all in all somewhat reminiscent of his old dorm room. But it should be more than enough for him.
“There should be some spare clothes in the cupboard, my friends tend to just leave them here for whenever they visit.”
“And they’ll be fine with me just using them?”
“They don’t need to know, I’ll wash them tomorrow when we go out to get you some of your own. Goodnight link.”
“Sleep well, love.”
He shouldn’t need my help changing, so I’m confident in leaving him in here while I go shower and settle down for the night too.
Having a hot shower works wonders for clearing your head, a good night’s rest should help to put everything regarding link into focus.
“Hey.”
“Huh? I thought you said you liked the other room? What made you want to sneak into mine?”
“I tried to sleep, but being in there on my own? I was scared I would wake up back in skyloft without you.”
Turning him away if this is true would simply be cruel to him, it doesn’t help the feeling from earlier crawling back though. That he’s possessive, unhealthily so, but I have to brush it off. Maybe I’m just overthinking, maybe he’s just getting used to being real still. It could be any reason like that.
“Move over so that I can get in as well then.”
“You- you’re really not going to ask me to leave my dove? I know theirs a reason I fell for your kindness… I’ll never let anyone else come close to having you like this.”
“What was that?”
“I said you’re not going to ask me to leave and go back to the other room alone?”
Okay, there is definitely something deeply wrong with him if what I think I heard is what he really said. He’s not going too like me questioning him though, and I don’t exactly have the energy for it either. Which I think he can tell, his arms are so warm and welcoming though, it’d be torture to peel myself out of them. Drifting off to sleep where he wants me is just the natural result of how comfortable he is.
“See [name], Isn’t it just so nice to be my lover? Wouldn’t you prefer for it to just be me and you like this forever?”
I’m not even awake enough to respond, instead closing my eyes and sighing against him.
“I knew you would… don’t worry my dove, you’ll never leave my side again. No matter what.”
Ending that haunting sentence with a kiss to my neck and a gentle hum, seemingly more content than he’s ever been. Just from holding me in his arms as we both drift into a deep sleep.

Have some fluff ✨
The sun took it’s time in rising, and now seems to hang motionless in the middle of the sky, baking the earth—and nine certain Heroes of Hyrule—relentlessly.
“Goddesses, it’s hot,” Legend complains for the seven hundredth time in thirty minutes.
“Vet,” the Captain says from where he lays on the ground nearby. “I swear to Hylia I’d strangle you if it didn’t take so much effort.”
“Guys, please. Argue literally any other time.” Sky sighs, exasperated.
“No, let ‘em duke it out. I could use a distraction from the pain,” Wind says blearily, looking up from where he’s sprawled. “Fight, fight, fight.”
“Aren’t you supposed to be pumping your fist?” Hryrule asks. Wind shakes his head.
“Too hot to do both at once.”
“Ah. I’ll pump my fist and you can chant.”
“Good idea.”
Legend glares at the two as they begin their chanting, and then turns to Wars.
“As much as I’d love to fight someone right now, and as easy as it would be to beat up the Captain, it’s not going to be worth it.”
Warriors scoffs, but evidently can’t find in within him to really argue.
Hyrule and Wind’s efforts are quickly aborted, and the group falls into silence once more.
“We’re back!” Wild’s voice, way too cheerful considering the dire heat, announces his and Time’s return from the town. “And we brought a surprise.”
This piques everyone’s interest.
“Please say it’s hydromelons,” Winds sighs.
“Even better,” Wild says. He picks up the Sheikah slate off his belt. Everyone waits in suspense as Wild taps the screen, until he eventually extracts—
“Ice cream!” Legend, Warriors, Four, and Hyrule all shout, accompanied by visible confusion from Sky, Wind, and Twilight.
“What’s ice cream?” Wind asks, blinking blearily as the white substance in wooden bowls that Wild begins to hand out.
“Frozen milk, flour, and sugar.“ Wild supplies, giving him a bowl. “You’ve really never heard of it?”
“No.” Wind says curiously.
“I haven’t either,” Sky says. Twilight nods.
“I’ve heard of it, but I’ve never had it,” Hyrules says excitedly, eyes glittering as he is bestowed a bowl of the creamy treat. “I never had enough time or money to stop for some.”
Legend is halfway through his bowl before he speaks. “Haven’t had any of this stuff in years,” he mumbles.
“It makes sense you wouldn’t have any,” Wild says as he gives the final bowl to Twilight. “It’s made in Hateno because they can use snow right off Lanayru Mountain, but I mean…the Sailor lives on an Island, Skyloft…I have no idea if ice cream has even been invented on Skyloft. And from what we’ve seen of Ordon, you aren’t close enough to…anything cold, really.”
Twilight sniffs his, clearly growing more comfortable with this concept. He takes a bite, savoring the taste. He is the slowest to eat, his smile growing with every bite.
“That was amazing!” Wind declares, and those who look over find his bowl to be licked clean. “I want more!”
No one seems very willing to give up their portions. Most of them are well on their way to finishing theirs. Wind turns back to his bowl, once again licking the bottom for traces of the sweet flavor before Time takes pity on him.
“Alright, you can have the rest of mine,” the Old Man chuckles. It turns into a deep laugh when Wind pounces on the bowl hungrily.
There’s another minutes of silence as everyone finishes off the ice cream, and another moment of quiet afterwards as they all seemed to mourn the loss of the sweet distraction from the unbearable heat.
“Perhaps we can make more?” Time suggests. Everyone looks at him.
“We don’t know how to make ice cream.” Wind says. “Also, maybe I’m crazy, but the last time I checked, we don’t have snow. Or ice. Or anything cold.”
“Sure we do,” Warriors says. “The Veteran’s right here.”
“Ha ha,” Legend says. “Very funny.”
Warriors looks at him. “No, seriously. You have the ice rod.”
Everyone is silent. Legend scowls.
“The heat makes me slow, okay?”
“I’ll allow it. Now, Champion, let’s see if we have the ingredients…”
The following endeavors include an extra trip to town, which yields yet ore milk, sugar, and tabantha wheat, as well as several somewhat failed (but no less delicious) attempts at making ice cream. Reasonably distracted, no one notices the sun seems to have resumed it’s journey across the sky, until the heat begins to dissipate. Of course, by that time, most everyone is occupied by stomachaches of varying degrees. But if you were to ask any of them, no one would have any regrets.

Thinking of Ganondorf being from an all female race of Amazonian warriors. Thinking of the sheer environment he grew up in affecting him. How, as a Gerudo, he would naturally be a huge feminist because he looks at his sisters and daughters and KNOWS their strength and endurance. He knows how powerful a woman is. Then he looks at the Hyrule and sees how comparably weaker the women of that country are, how they're expected to stay at home and tend to children while the men fight, how even though it's a matriarchy by nature of the goddess blood that flows through the daughters of the Royal Family, the Kings are looked to with more esteem than the literal goddesses in human flesh that make of the more feminine side of the family. Can you imagine how infuriated that would make Ganondorf???
Get comfortable, lovely, I have a lot of thoughts on this.
First, I think you’re right in that Ganondorf would respect and understand women’s abilities. 100%. I also think growing up in an all female society would have several effects on his behavior, such as making him more physically affectionate and nurturing than most men, because that’s the only example he’s had (assuming, of course, he ever was close enough to anyone to do that - I feel like being the Gerudo king kind of separated him from the others so he might be aloof). But I also think that, given their tradition of crowning the sole male as king, and given their seeming Othering of men (at least in botw/totk time, where they have to take a class to figure out how to deal with men, where girls can’t even look at men, where families are ripped apart because they disapprove of men so much - none of which I find remotely feminist or healthy), he’d have a bit of a superiority complex as well. Not over women specifically so much as everyone, but it would definitely include his own people.
As for how women are treated in Hyrule and his opinion on it… based on his behavior and words in TotK—based on the fact that, at least in most eras that Ganondorf lives in—he comes from a warrior culture, I don’t think he’d be insulted for the Hyrule women so much as insulted by them. Like, his thought would be that if they’re supposedly oppressed why don’t they fight back?? Why are they acting so weak and pathetic and docile?? He might dislike the culture altogether if it prevents women from fighting, but he’d also just… be insulted that they all just think, including the women, that they are incapable of fighting (which I don’t think is ever specifically actually the case. Like yeah, there aren’t tons of female fighters out there but nobody disapproves of it either - there are plenty of women adventuring in botw, Ashei is certainly an exception but isn’t seemingly ostracized, there are female knights aplenty in Skyloft culture, which was the foundation of Hyrule, Zelda herself wields a sword in several games). I don’t think he’d care about the idea that women are nurturers or better suited to care for the home and family, because frankly he has nothing to go on in terms of are men better at this or whatnot. He recognizes his own physical strength is greater than Gerudo women, but, due to the Othering of men anyway in Gerudo culture, it’s hard for him to know if that’s a general thing or if he’s just special. Because dude does have an ego, so he’d definitely think he’s special. But he’d also see that these Hylian women are naturally weaker than Gerudo women and would likely just view all of the Hylians as lesser anyway.
As for the royal family, it’s definitely matriarchal as you said, but I don’t think there’s an emphasis on kings being more important. It’s just that we’ve never seen the queens alive, and that’s a story choice rather than a reflection of the culture. Zelda is almost always underage, and her mother is nowhere to be found. You could assume she just isn’t ruling, I guess, but the only time a queen is specifically mentioned is to say she had died, devastating the whole family. When Zelda is of age, even though the game still calls her princess, she is very much in charge (such as in Twilight Princess and Hyrule Warriors). I think part of the reason Rhoam had such a stick up his butt in botw was because he was serving as king regent, essentially, out of his element, stressed as hell in an upcoming apocalypse, trying to keep his daughter alive, and preparing her to rule once she reached adulthood. His whole rant about her being heir to a throne of nothing would be more poignant (still awful, btw, but more poignant) if he was emphasizing that she was rapidly approaching age of adulthood, about to ascend to the throne, and the kingdom had no faith in her and could likely outright rebel against her as a result.

i just love link so much. no matter the game. the courage he always presents, no matter how young or old he is
how he’s knocked out in the ordon spring and wakes up to ilia and colin both gone, and he immediately sprints, unarmed, into faron. he’s then met with the wall of twiligt, turns into a wolf, is imprisoned, and is thrown into everything he never imagined, and yet he takes it all in stride and never stops looking for the kids and saving hyrule. the little town farmer. goat herder. faux big brother. all of that turned a boy who fought a resurrected skeleton, mastered a city in the sky, defeated the king of another dimension, and sealed away the demon king with a sword through the abdomen
the little kid from kokiri. the boy without a fairy. showing up to mido and learning of his path via the deku tree. taking on the parasite of a big fish and beating a huge dodongo in the depths of a volcano. going on to jump in time seven years, realizing ganondorf wreaked havoc on the world because of it, and working to reseal him.
the school age kid in the sky. who flew birds as a living and was in love with his friend. who saw her get swept away right in front of him and took no hesitation to get to the ground and search for her. who went through the silent realm time after time. who passed through time and fought a creature like ghirahim and eventually demise to save zelda and skyloft / hyrule
the big brother and grandson who lived peacefully on an island with his baby sister and grandmother. who just… hung out. Whose sister was kidnapped and he didn’t waste a second to get on the pirate’s ship to find out where she was taken. his whole determination came from needing to save her. and even when she was, he kept on. killing the helmaroc king and going on to try and kill ganondorf, only to be brought down into hyrule and learn of tetra’s identity, and his own. who, at his young age, put the master sword through ganondorf’s head and turned him to stone
the boy who grew up as seemingly more outspoken, especially around mipha. but he became zelda’s knight, whose goal was to protect her with his life. the thing he took most seriously. the kid who stood up between zelda and multiple guardians, even as he was on the brink of death. the boy who was willing, after getting his arm covered in malice, to dive into nothingness to grab zelda’s hand in an attempt to save her life, not knowing what could greet them at the bottom. who does succeed at grabbing her hand and saving her by the end. who carried her out of the water and continued being what he did best: be her knight
he is just. no matter the game. a little, innocent kid, sometimes not even knowing the part he really plays in the world. and for something to happen; his sister, the love of his life, fellow kids who were his family, he rushes into the face of danger to save them.
theres a reason he has the triforce of courage

I don't exactly know which Zelda games you write for, but I could go for some Link concepts (preferably from Skyward Sword, any game is fine though)
I'd love to! Many Links act the same, but the background and plot of the concept changes. I wanted this longer but wasn't sure what to add.
Sorry if something's not right, I never finished Skyward Sword and watched a video.
For those who want said video
Yandere! Link (Skyward Sword) Concept
Pairing: Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Gender-Neutral Darling, Stalking mentioned, Obsession, Overprotective behavior, Jealousy, Clingy behavior, Forced affection, Forced relationship implied.
Tumblr media
Skyward Sword, according to the timeline, starts everything.
Link, Zelda, Hyrule, the Master Sword itself... even Ganon.
It begins here with the hero of the sky.
You probably first met him in Skyloft.
He's close friends with Zelda, but ultimately falls for you with time.
His obsession brews before his destiny begins.
As he goes through knight training, he meets you.
You support his training... all with a smile as bright as the sun.
Even if his destiny includes Zelda... Link still harbors a strong feeling of care for you.
When he sees you his heart flutters in longing.
He isn't a man of many words, so his crush is mostly silent.
While you know him on Skyloft you do so much together.
Including Loftwing riding... something you practice with him often.
Link's obsession towards you starts rather sweet.
He's protective of you whenever Groose is around, which you find funny.
You also notice him become increasingly shy towards you.
It's not too hard to tell Link gets bashful around you, trying to hide it but failing.
Before Link is able to admit his ever growing crush towards you... his destiny begins.
While on a Loftwing ride with Zelda, a tornado starts his new way of life.
One that prevents him from seeing you as often as he'd like-
Link knows saving his home and Zelda is on a time limit.
The visits he does manage to get in on Skyloft are quick.
You greet Link with open, yet worried, arms when he lands his Loftwing.
Each time you're slowly hugged by Link, his head laying on your shoulder.
While he fights darkness on the surface below... you are a comfort he clings to when stressed.
It's like everytime he comes to you... he fuels his obsession.
He wants to promise you when things are over... he can care for you.
He can finally confess and live happily with you.
However he doesn't get a chance until the very end of Skyward Sword, where the land of Hyrule begins.
In Link's entire journey, he misses you.
Your smile... your warmth... your comfort...
He always yearned for it while fighting foes such as Ghirahim and Demise.
Words cannot describe how happy he was when he saw you land on the surface with your Loftwing.
You get off the bird-like creature, nervous about the ground under your feet.
"The land beneath the clouds, hu-"
You're nearly toppled over by Link, he crashed into you in an attempt to hug you.
You manage a surprised "Hey, Link!" before being caged to his chest.
The hero barely wants to let you go before you press on his chest.
He wants to hold you forever...
Even when you get him to let go, he still holds onto your hands.
You almost feel intimidated based on the intensity of his gaze on you.
He's been waiting forever to see you again.
Link's overall yandere behavior is Protective, Clingy, Affectionate, and Obsessive.
He's usually all about his darling, showing shy behavior occasionally but also showing a fierce determination to protect you.
He can get jealous, especially when someone like Groose is around you, as he does not wish for you to fall for someone like him.
Link can also be pretty intense when protecting you.
He hates the thought of you being hurt.
Link would kill, yet not out of jealousy.
It's more like he'd slay any monster for you, just to get praise from you.
He craves attention from you.
Think of any yandere Link like a protector to his darling.
He feels it's his job as a hero to defend you, to love you.
He's all yours in his mind.
Link's another yandere that prefers actions over words.
Which is why when he tries to confess, it comes off a bit sudden.
He hugs you before pressing his lips against you in a hesitant and desperate manner.
You may press against him... wishing for him to let go.
Link is strong, however, pulling away after he's gotten a taste of you.
Now he's hooked... the sweet taste of you on the hero's tongue.
Link could probably stalk, it would be hard to hear him.
He's so quiet... watching you like he's studying you.
Link's a yandere to give you his everything.
Like a loyal knight, he'd fight for you because he cares for you.
The warmth of your arms is all he asks in return.
Link is affectionate towards you, hugs and kisses peppered onto you all over.
To him, you're everything.
Connected to him by fate or not... it doesn't matter.
He loves you...
He'd do anything for you.
He's yours.

Got these lads some better references! Not complete ones, but they're still pretty good.
Tumblr media
Here are the 8 Links I'm planning on including! I have general characterization concepts for all the others, but they were being kinda annoying designs. I might include em as I continue to figure out this AU, but for now here's what I got!
Tumblr media
Our very first hero! I don't really consider the SS prequel manga canon here so Sky's the very first holder of the Hero's spirit. He's a very kind soul, protective of those he cares for and holding the endless determination and courage of any hero.
After the end of Skyward Sword, Sky's taken up a bit of an 'ambassador to the surface' type role, educating those who've come down with while Zelda spends as much time as she can with her family on Skyloft. Though the scars from his fight with Demise still twinge, Sky's happy to move forward with his life on the surface.
Tumblr media
Minish is our youngest member, but that doesn't mean you can underestimate him. Minish is quiet, playful, and endlessly curious. He's the best spy this chain has, able to shrink down to the size of a mouse and be completely invisible to everyone but fellow children.
After saving Zelda from being encased in stone and having her light force drained, Minish simply seeks to spend his time enjoying his childhood with his best friend and learning to forge a sword as good as the four sword.
Tumblr media
Mask is our resident angst, his life has been far too hard. Mask is mysterious, closed off, and talented. With the body of a teenager and the mind of a young adult, this lad has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.
Resuming his travels after Termina, Mask finds himself looking for somewhere to belong. He's travelled to Labrynna, Holodrum, Koradai, and yet the only place he really felt any sense of family remains in that strange war with Tune and Captain. Perhaps, someday, he'll find his way back to them.
Tumblr media
Tune's our resident navigator! He can read and create maps and starcharts like no other, plus he knows his way around a boat. Despite the more pirat-y aesthetic, Tune's really a sweetheart. Sure, he enjoys finding abandoned treasure and sailing, but he's hardly a ruthless bounty hunter or thief. He just loves meeting people, and wants to help anywhere he can. A trait practically required for the hero life.
After his adventures, Tune's living a life of travel on the Great Sea. He has his own boat, but broadly he sails with Tetra, the two finding buried treasures from Hyrule. He's always had that itch to go somewhere, to do something, and maybe he's about to get exactly what he wants.
Tumblr media
Wolf's a bit of a mysterious edgy man himself, but this time it's all appearances. Our resident furry is just a big huggable rancher with a protective streak when it comes to his family. He's amazing with animals, and with the help of a certain amazing nose, he can track basically anything.
I'm diverging from canon a lot here. Midna's never shattered the mirror of twilight in this universe, she's just not around in the light world because it would hurt to be anything more than a shadow there. Instead, after their adventure Wolf and her hang out frequently. Wolf's pretty content with his lot in life, he's got his family, his home, and his best friend. Really, what more could he ask for?
Tumblr media
Unabashed favorite character alert, Four's a bit of an asshole. Like, they're very heroic and frankly, often right, but they've still got an arrogance problem. They're fiercely loyal and incredibly smart, and will take the role as supposed leader because frankly, no one else wants the title.
After returning the Four Sword with Vaati and Ganon completely obliterated, Four's gone back to their life as a knight. There's still a fierce purple ache in their chest for a certain Shadow, but the teal confidence easily shoves that to the side in favor of being the perfect warrior. Now, Four's rising through the ranks of Hyrule's guard, ready for whatever challenge comes next.
Tumblr media
Wild fits their name very well. They're quick to explore every mountain and valley, loot every chest, and find every korok. Incredibly different from the Link from before the Calamity, they share memories but not so much experiences. Wild is the best archer in the group, even without their champion ability.
I can't quite decide whether I want Wild to be pre or post TOTK, but it doesn't make too terribly much of a difference. After his adventure he continues to explore Hyrule and the lands beyond it. He's verrryyy close with his Zelda, and the two like to do a bit of mad science with Purah every so often. He's happy with his new lease in life, but if the chance comes to explore something new? Well, Wild's definitely going to take it.
Tumblr media
Cap's here! And he's a bit of a mess. Traumatized from his fights with Cia and Dark Link, Captain has trouble being confident in himself at all anymore. He's always been naturally confident, but ever since that first battle with Dark, Captain's been suppressing that part of himself. He's a very skilled leader and tactician, with the most experience working with a large group.
After the war Captain.. didn't really know what to do with himself. His friends had left, and there was no longer anything to fight against. He decided to dedicate himself to being a guard, but he still felt a little empty. He's never really moved on from the events of the war, but maybe soon he'll return to some old friends.

For CTB’s 3rd anniversary (holy crap!!!), I’d like to ask if there’s any fun/interesting lore u wish u could naturally add in, but haven’t had the opportunity to do so yet?
As you could probably guess with STP, I have so many ideas for New Hyrule that I will probably never be able to convey in CTB proper. STP only scratched the surface of all the little cultural differences that make New Hyrule different from Warriors's Hyrule.
Actually, there's a lot of tiny cultural things I would love to delve into more with all the various Hyrules across the eras that I wish I could explore.
Here's a few:
Skyloft has a lot of Greek trappings, such as valuing Gladiator-esque fights and masked theater productions as entertainment. Skyloft is also freaking huge, with multiple sky island clusters making various communities across the sky. Sky's parents are actually still alive, but they live far away from him and he hasn't had the chance to visit in years.
Four's Hyrule has very little concept of the Triforce, but the myth of the Master Sword is fairly prevalent across his time and is conflated with the myth of the Picori sword; his Hyrule is also the smallest with it being more a fief than an actual kingdom.
Even after stopping Ganondorf, tensions between tribes is still really intense in Time's era. The memory of the civil war / the Unification War is still recent and every side is still bitter about the outcome.
Twilight's era is the most similar to Warriors, with stark class differences and plenty of newly acquired land. Being from Ordon, Twilight identifies more with regular humans than Hylians and gets indignant when he's lumped with one but not the other. The humans of Ordon also worship spirits more than the goddesses, so Twilight is very culturally disconnected from other Hylians.
Legend's Hyrule is on the upswing after years of economic troubles, and is surrounded by much richer kingdoms. Magic is also the most prevalent and common in his era. It's not unusual for young men to leave Hyrule in search of riches to bring back to their families.
Hyrule's era is extremely poor, but so is the other kingdoms surrounding Hyrule. The aristocracy takes no responsibility for the lower classes, which leads to a lot of regular people not giving a shit who their princess is or what the laws are. Towns are very close communities, as being a wanderer like Hyrule is more risk than its worth.
The Great Sea is also far bigger and more populated than what is in the game. All of the myths about the sea portray it as an violent, uncaring father. There is so little fish in the world that deities are often portrayed as fish/human hybrids. There's a lot of tiny superstitions involving sailing too, such as never killing a gull out in sea or else risking the wraith of the sea god.
There's a underlining sense of fear in Wild's Hyrule that there are no other kingdoms beyond the borders of Hyrule or on the other side of the ocean. While the older generation can recall stories of foreign lands, the younger generation are more prone to believing that they are the last of humanity. Round-eared humans are unheard of in Wild's time.
--
And now, various New Hyrule facts:
While most other Hyrules have a traditional European fantasy biome, New Hyrule's biome resembles California. Trading Post's real world analogue is Canary Row in Monterey.
Hats and bonnets are essential outdoor wear; to leave your hair out is impolite at best.
Trainspotting is a common past time; people who are fans of the rail industry without being royal engineers are called rail rats. So mechanics like Jean would be a good example.
You probably noticed in STP that New Hyrule has a lot more modern trappings, such as gramophones, heated plumbing, and gas lamps; telegrams are on the way too.
New Hyrule has a significant celebrity subculture, which Spirit and other famous engineers get folded into; there are plenty of tabloids that cover Spirit sightings across New Hyrule
As New Hyrule becomes more industrialized, tensions are building between the people and industrialists, the crown and the common folk, and Hylians and Lokomo.

Aspects of the Sky
When Wild stepped through the portal, the first thing he noticed was the wind. It was cooler than he expected and whipped across his face fiercely, whipping up his hair and tugging at his sarong. Wild shivered and instinctively reached for his slate, pulling out one of the tunics that he had been given in Ordon and pulling it over his head.
They were in a wide plaza on the edge of what looked like a small, brightly coloured town. It seemed nice, and despite the fierce wind the sky was cloudless and clear. Wild hummed, stepping forwards and looking around. Oh, the plaza seemed to be on the edge of a cliff, it seemed to end only a few feet away and below it-
Wild’s stomach dropped. Below it was a sheer drop into what looked like eternity, only a small layer of cloud visible far, far below. When Wild looked around he realised that he could see islands floating in the sky nearby, not dissimilar to the one he was standing on.
Sky islands? But he had never been on one that looked like this before, and certainly not one with people milling about, with buildings that were very much not in ruins and a lively, thriving community. Were they in his Hyrule, but in the past? Was he in Rauru’s era? What was going on?
“We’re in Skyloft!” came Sky’s delighted voice from behind him. Ah, that explained it. “Wild, this is my home! I can’t wait to show you everything!”
He turned around as the Chosen Hero grabbed his arm, barely containing his yelp as he was dragged further into the plaza. The rest of the Chain were no help, watching him in amusement and even waving at him as he passed.
“Nice to know you.” Twilight signed. “Bye.”
Traitor.

YOUR SKY AND PIPIT COMIC MADE ME CRY
PIPIT NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION🫡
Best SS side character ong
HAPPY TEARS I HOPE???
But yeah! Pipit’s a favorite of mine haha! In my opinion, he’s the most interesting side character on Skyloft! By far! (Groose isn’t on Skyloft anymore so he doesn’t count!) He’s also one of the most underrated characters in any Zelda game.
• He’s an upperclassman at the Academy who actively stands up for Fledge and Link against Groose.
• He’s SO SUPPORTIVE. Every time you talk to him, he has something encouraging to say. He genuinely really cares about Link and Zelda and is one of the few people who believes in Link.
• He’s the only student at the Knight Academy who doesn’t live in a dorm.
• He lives at home, but you never see him there.
• The Worst Mother on Skyloft Award goes to Mallara! (Pipit’s mom). The reason Pipit’s never at home is because his home is a mess and his mother is the WORST.
• Mallara has really nice furniture and ceramics and stuff but it’s all messy. Pipit’s corner of the house is the only clean area, but his furniture is all worn down and scratched up. His blanket is patched. Everything he has is well used and mended.
• I kind of view that as a metaphor: Mallara has nice things but doesn’t care about them enough to take good care of them. She has an amazing son but doesn’t care enough about him to take care of him. Meanwhile, Pipit uses what he has, even if he doesn’t have much.
• ALSO he’s struggling financially. When you clean Mallara’s house, she gives you twenty rupees and tells you to say hello to Pipit for her. (There’s a reason she doesn’t say hello herself. There’s a reason Pipit doesn’t talk to her).
• If you clean her house enough times and then walk by it at night, you’ll hear Pipit yelling at her. I don’t know the exact quotes but he said something along the lines of “I gave you that money to buy bread and you spent it on a housekeeper! If you keep this up, I won’t be able to afford to go to the Academy next year!”
• Bro’s a full time student and also works the night watches at the Academy just to have the money to put food on the table and put himself through school. He gives some of this money to Mallara and she IMMEDIATELY turns around and spends it on Link.
• THAT’S A WHOLE OTHER THING. Mallara pays Link to clean her house because she’s too lazy to do it herself. She tells him to talk to Pipit because she’s too lazy to do it herself. She expects Link to be her housekeeper and her messenger because she’s not willing to put the work in and do the bare minimum for her home or for her son.
• This whole time I’ve been calling it her house. But the game calls it Pipit’s house. PLEASE did he buy the house too?? So that his mother could destroy it?? Crying.
• He has the sweetest little crush on Karane and the game gives you the option to tease him for it! I will always give the letter to Karane because it makes me happy to see him happy. He deserves it! “You like her?” Such a little brother response.
• He literally says something along the lines of “don’t I deserve to know true love?” about Karane. Like. This guy’s never experienced genuine love in his life. His mother sure isn’t giving it to him.
• Link and Pipit are 100% brothers and I’m writing a whole fic about how Link was adopted into that problematic family and what that means for Mallara and Pipit. Suffice to say, Link and Pip are quite close! For my au, Pipit is the first person to really and truly understand Sky since he knows Link so well (literally grew up in the same house) but also knows Aepon! (Took care of the Loftwing while Link was away on his adventure). In many cases, he understands Sky better than Zelda does. Better than Sky knows himself! There will definitely be more Pipit content from me because he DESERVES SOME LOVE.

Remainder of the Sky
He couldn't get over the miracle of a tree.
They were so tall here, vast and mighty. Their canopy of leaves were enough to protect one from the rain.
And the rain! He had seen rain but not like the rain here. It fell in sheets. It misted through the trees. It was cold and warm and refreshing, not like the stinging sleet of home.  His old home.  This was probably his home now. He marvelled at the path of his life to bring him here, laying on his back under a tree that was bigger than any house he had ever known. His hands behind his head, his eyes piercing the blanket of leaves to the brilliant blue patches of sky beyond.  He missed the sky. Missed the open air and freedom but could not escape the wonder of the land either. Forever caught in the between spaces of his heart, he supposed.
A sound tickled his ears but he ignored it.
They were still going up there, for now.  People needed to be brought down.  Family heirlooms needed to be retrieved. The Loftwings were always happier in the air so they flew them frequently, in and out of clouds, through the brilliant expanse of sky.
It just wasn’t the same though.
The dappled sunlight danced on his closed eyes as he considered that nothing was the same anymore and it shouldn't be because they all move on eventually.  Even if none of it had happened and they made their lives on Skyloft, everything would have changed anyway.  Graduating from school, becoming a Knight, beginning a family; they were all things he had never done before but always imagined he would.  Was this really so different?
His ear twitched at another sound but he was too deep in his own thoughts to consider it now.
Sure, the surface was different and vast and there were all sorts of friendly people to meet. Life was busier than it had ever been at home and every day was full. There were still threats to deal with;  killing the demon king did not remove everything that god had created. His eyes slipped open, narrowed in fury, his face a mask of pain and anger. No, it hadn't really ended anything, did it.  Rage burned through him like fire.
Someone might have been calling his name. It was unimportant.
Calm thoughts. Calm eyes. Deep breath. Remember, he is gone. Din's anger did not have to burn through him anymore. It was fine.
Everything was fine.
A miracle of a tree.
The flow of the river.
Fine.
A flower, a bee.
Fine.
(Read the rest on AO3)
This one is probably one of the more beautiful things I think I've written. It feels very poetic, in a way.

Tbh i dont think I'd care as much about ToTKs lackluster story if there wasnt so much framework for it to be GOOD.
Hell. Lets look at the setup here. Link and Zelda are rebuilding the remnants of their old kingdom, they find the source of where the Calamity came from, and it has human form...
And NONE of this is expanded on.
Even within the game itself- it sets us up in Zonai ruins underground. Statues upon statues from this ancient race... and we only ever see two. The past timeline takes place after most of them are dead.
We get to explore ruins, visit structures in the sky with a lot of local legends around them... but we learn nothing more than that.
The Wind temple, the stormwind arc- we are meant to assume it saved the Rito somehow... and yet the "how" is never expanded upon.
Gordonia, an ancient city of the gorons, lives in their legends... but this too never gets a purpose.
The Zoras glorified water treatment plant even- did that even have any significance to the Zora? Its not even a well known legend, they just found writing about it in a cave.
And the sheer amount of stuff that could have been done with the Gerudo- not only with the lightning temple, but the temple the yiga are squatting in... they're given no significance to their people whatsoever.
We could have had cutscenes about how each of these locations were affected by the imprisoning war, at the very LEAST. Just a crumb of lore about why all these important places WERE important.
Sure, most Zelda temples don't really have a lot of lore surrounding them specifically in the series, but most of them dont have the same buildups to them that each TOTK temple did. BOTW at least gave us significant cutscenes showing us how in tune the champions were with their divine beasts, and their relationships with Link and Zelda.
Even in older games, several temples with longer buildups give us some interesting backgrounds or a purpose. (Think the Sky temple in TP, the tower of the gods in WW, and even the Skyloft temple in SkSw even if i hated that one)
To have only 5 temples, with long buildups, and have no real payoff aside from progressing the game and getting those ghost companions... it's a letdown.
And all of this doesnt EVEN get into the shallow portrayal of Rauru and Ganondorf
