I know people have all sorts of opinions on how Garp is handled in the live action but, for me, I just find him hilarious. Like, from the perspective of someone familiar with the show and knowing Luffy and Garp's relationship, Garp's expressions after learning what Luffy is up to in the early episodes are funny!
Garp, episode 1: *after being told a pirate with a straw hat robbed a marine base* There's more than one straw hat in the world, it doesn't HAVE to be Luffy.
Coby, episode 2: The pirate's name was Luffy 😔
Garp: *speedrunning the five stages of grief* Goddammit.

[It’s considered good etiquette to ask a man about his wife’s wellbeing. Except if the man in question is Dracule Mihawk.]
Enjoying my work? You can leave me a tip on Ko-Fi | Have a request?
Garp hates having to call Mihawk, mainly because of the warlord's attitude. Used to the usual "yes, sir!" of the Marines, a man with his own will and agenda is not something he entirely knows how to navigate. Especially since both of them know that the World Government needs the warlords more than they need the bureaucracy. And that doesn't exactly help in exercising power.
His attempts at diplomacy have burst into flames each time and today isn't going to be much different:
"How’s the missus?" Garp asks in the nicest tone he can force although he's aware that Mihawk knows how much the vice admiral hates asking for Dracule's assistance.
Mihawk only scoffs. "Are you calling just to spoil my mood or is there another reason for your impertinence?"
"I was just trying to-"
"Don't," he cuts him off in a stern voice. "If you have business with me, speak fast. If you're interested in my wife, I know where you live, Garp. I'd suggest losing your unwelcome nosiness before you lose something else."
Little did Garp know at the time but his little question was possibly the worst strategy he could think of. Dracule Mihawk is not like most men and the mere mention of his wife by acquaintances only enrages him. Work and private life do not ever mix. And he'll be damned if someone tries to breach that, even in the form of a courtesy. Therefore, the rest of the call was filled with openly insulting answers that were bold even for Mihawk. A veiled threat or two also found their way into their rather tense conversation.
You know he's done with Garp when he lets out a frustrated grunt. Sometimes you wonder if this grumpy, forever dissatisfied version of him is the only side of Mihawk his acquaintances know. Maybe he really is two men in the form of one.
He's sitting at his desk, thinking about something and not bothering to get up for now. Considering the fact that his hat is lying on the table and not on his head, Mihawk is probably not planning on going out anytime soon. Then again, judging by his spoiled mood, his homestay is a blessing for the first poor sods that would cross his path.
In slow steps, you stroll to his side, letting your hand brush through his hair. He doesn't say anything, only leans his head further towards you. The thing about Mihawk is that he loved to reject and decline but he never does so to you. No, in your case it's the opposite - he revels in allowing you whatever you want.
So intimidating and combative, yet soft and looking for intimacy. Truly, two men with the face of one.
"My mother used to say that each grey hair is one thing we worry about," you say quietly. "At this rate, love, your whole head will be white by noon."
"Your mother also says that milk goes sour because gnomes piss in it," he retorts. Yes, your mother and her strange folk beliefs... She's probably the only person Mihawk can force himself to be nice to despite his dislike.
His response earns a hearty laugh from you. Clear as day, you can see his posture relax as he listens to the music of your happiness. If he even thinks about the possibility of Garp or any other of his acquaintances hearing it, he might just get furious again.
"Well, nobody's perfect," you say between chuckles.
Then, Mihawk gently grabs your hand and lowers it to his face. With softness and passion that hardly befits a man of his infamy, he kisses the inside of your hand. "You seem to be doing so effortlessly."

(Find part two featuring Zoro, Luffy, Sanji, Bart, Sabo and Law here)
Warnings/Content- Some angst in Smokers, Garp's part is NSFW ;)
More under the cut :)
Tumblr media
 Issho (Fujitora)
 💜-This man is such a gentle giant 🥹
 💜- Since Issho is blind you try to gift him things that he can feel
 💜- So when you decided to make him a bracelet, you made sure to use different shaped and different textured beads

“Y/N is that you?”
 “Maybe~” You sit beside the large man and gently grab his hand “I have a surprise for you!”
 “What’s this?” His fingers run over the soft threads of the bracelet you’ve placed on his wrist. “Did you make this?”
 “I sure did!” You beam. “The base of the bracelet is a deep purple, so that it matches your outfit!”
 “I see, any special reason why you made it my darling?”
 “It’s just like the bracelet says.” Issho was confused at first but ran his fingers over the beads of the bracelet. His smile widens, feeling that the letters spell out I love you.
 “I hope you don’t mind.” His large hands come up to cradle your face as his fingers trace over your nose, eyes and finally your lips.  “Since I can’t see it, I want to feel the kind and beautiful smile of the woman I adore.”
 (Issho can actually see the colorful hue of the bracelet thanks to the love and kindness you put into making it)
Tumblr media
Koby
🌸💕-  Koby was getting ready to go on his first overseas mission as a marine captain. Meaning he was going to be gone for a few months.
🌸💕- You knew he was going to miss you just as much as you were going to miss him, so you wanted to give him something that would remind him of you. Thus you made him a bracelet
🌸💕- When you gave it to him he turned into a absolute, blushing mess (He was internally giggling and kicking his feet)
🌸💕- As happy as he was to receive the bracelet, he felt bad knowing he didn’t have anything to give you
🌸💕- You assured him that it was okay, but seeing you walk away empty handed left a bad taste on his tongue
  “Wait Y/N!” You turn around on the dock to see your boyfriend running towards you at full speed. “Koby?” You raise your brow as he tries to catch his breath.
 “Please take this.” Koby’s pink hair falls against his forehead as he unties the bandanna wrapped around his head. “May I?” You smile and bring your hand up so he can wrap the colorful fabric around your wrist. “It’s not a bracelet, but you can at least wear it like one!”
 “Captain, we got the go ahead from HQ!”
 “Roger that.”
 “You better get going captain.” You reach up and give him a kiss on his flushed cheek. “Come back to me, okay?”
 “I promise I will.” Koby’s hand wraps around yours as he pulls you close to him. “Let me give you one more thing before I go….” Your eyes widen in shock, feeling his soft lips press against yours for the very first time.
 You both pull back with embarrassment flooding your faces hearing the whistles and “Get it captain!” comments coming from the ship above you.
 “I have to go now, love.” With a cherry red face he pulls you in for one last hug. “I’ll be back before you know it.”
 “I’ll be waiting.”
 ~~~~
 “Where did that come from?” Helmeppo confronted the blushing boy as soon as he stepped foot on the ship. “Did she cast some kind of love spell on that bracelet?”
 “I don't know honestly.” Koby looks at the bracelet with a dopey smile plastering his face. “I love her so much.”
 “I know that you love sick fool..... also why do you look like you're about to pass out?”
 “Because I am.” With that his unsteady knees finally gave out, sending him straight to the deck.
 Despite the fact it took him two hours to fully recuperate, he was still proud of himself for finally finding the courage to properly kiss you. (No bewitched bracelet required)
(Koby learnt a very valuable lesson that day. Love is a hurricane!! )
Tumblr media
 Smoker
💨- The second you gave him the bracelet he handed it back saying something like “I’m a grown man and I don’t wear silly little bracelets, go give it to Tashigi.”
💨- Definitely not the reaction you were hoping for AT ALL
💨- You grab that bracelet and leave his office, but not before bitterly saying “It won’t mean anything to her….”
Once Smoker finally got home it was already nearing midnight. He was making his way towards your shared bedroom when he noticed something colorful in the hallway trash can. He pulled it out and recognized it as the bracelet you tried to give him earlier.
 “Fuck me.” What you said before you left his office finally made sense to him. Why would you give Tashigi a bracelet that had his and your relationship anniversary date on it? “How could I not remember that it was today?”  Not only did he reject your gift, he also forgot today actually was your anniversary. Now he was feeling like an absolute asshole, but he’s dead set on making things right.
 Smoker opens the door to your bedroom to find the comforter still in place. She’s not here. Then he checked the guest bedroom. Not there either.  He was about to freak out thinking you had left, but remembered he had one more place to check.
  He felt a wave of relief wash over him finding you fast asleep on the living room couch. But that relief quickly turns into heartbreak, seeing the balled up tissues scattered around your curled up body.
 “Y/N..” There was no gruffness in the way your name left his lips. “I’m so sorry.” He brushes the stray hairs out of your face and notices the puffy ring of red around each of your eyes. “My sweet girl.” He thinks back to earlier that day, how you were happy and smiling. But he selfishly stole that from you. “I don’t deserve you at all.”
 “Hell no you don’t.” You lift up from the couch and wack his hand away.
 “You're awake??”
 “Yeah, I have been the whole time..”
 “Listen Y/N, I don’t have an excuse for my actions and I won’t make one.” Smoker sat down next to you on the couch and took your hand in his.  “Just know I am sorry and I love you.”
 “I thought you “wouldn’t wear a silly little bracelet” ?” You grab the bracelet on his hand with a quirked brow.
 “Well I didn’t know my silly little woman made it for me.” He replies with a smirk. “But even if you didn't, I should have accepted it.”
 “Yeah, but It’s in the past now.” You grab the blanket and place it back over your body. “I’m going to sleep, goodnight Smokey.”
 “On the couch?”
 “Is that a problem?”
 “No, I guess not.” You were hoping he’d pick you up bridal style and whisk you away to bed, but the big oaf just walked away. He never learns. “I’ll sleep right here then.” Surprised to hear his voice again, you turn around and see him throwing pillows and blankets on the floor
 “I suppose you will.” You huff and close your eyes.
 “Y/N.” You hum in response “I think you dropped something on the floor.”
 “Dropped wha-.”
 “I may have lost track of time and forgot today was our anniversary.” You lift up from the couch in complete shock seeing the ring Smoker held in his hand. “But that doesn’t mean I didn’t have anything planned for our anniversary.” You could feel tears forming in the corners of your eyes. “Will you marry me Y/N?”
 “You jerk…” You hold your left hand up, letting him slide the ring over your finger. “Of course I will.” You jump down from the couch and tackle Smoker to the floor as you cry tears of joy.  “I'm still mad at you, but I’m also really happy.” You pull away and look to see Smoker also has tears of his own forming.
 “Babygirl I’m happy too and all, but...” His voice strains as if he were in pain. “Your knee.”
 “What about my knee?” You look down and see he wasn’t crying for the reason you originally thought. “Oops.” During the process of jumping your now fiancée, your knee had unfortunately landed on his privates. “Honey I am so sorry!”
 “It’s okay.” You could tell he was holding back a scream. “I deserved it anyway.”
 “Drop the Mr. Tough guy act.” You roll your eyes. “Want me to go get a frozen bag of peas or something?”
"........"
"......."
 “Please.”
 (Smoker may have lost his ability to have kids, but it was worth seeing you fawn over your engagement ring.)
Tumblr media
 Garp (NSFW)
💥- Despite your relationship with Garp being a secret (For.... special reasons) he’s all the time sneaking you small trinkets or leaving you a stack of his rice crackers on your desk.
💥-He can't help himself, he just loves giving you things. (At one point he even tried to steal Sengoku's goat for you because you said it was cute💀)
💥- But you wanted to return the favor and what better way than with something handmade
  “Garp, can I come in sir.” You knock on his office door before reviving a gruff come in. “I have something for you.”
 “Is that my Y/N?" His rough tone softens seeing you standing at his door. “Don’t just stand there, come here.” He said while patting his lap.
 “Isn’t that a bad idea considering we’re both at work?” Your cheeks heat up at his nonchalant invite . “What if you know who sees me, he’d kill me for sure!”
 “Honestly, I hope that bastard walks in here one of these days.” Garp smirks before giving you a serious look. “And you know I wouldn’t let him harm a hair on your head, right?”
 “I know.”
"Good, so come here."
“I guess it won’t hurt, but only for a little while.” You sigh before crawling into the large mans lap.
 “Atta girl.” Garps arms wrap around your back, pulling you further into his embrace. “So what did you have for me?”
 “I can’t give it to you smother me to death!” You voice strains as you lightly smack his broad chest.
 “Oops, sorry.” He pulls away letting you get some much needed air. “You okay down there?”
 “Yeah.” You nod your head as you grab the bracelet from your pocket. “Hand please.” Garp holds his hand out, letting you slip the bracelet over his large hand.
 “Well, would you look at that?” The older man studies the bracelet with a fond smile. “What a sweet girl, making an old man like me something so pretty.”
 “You're all the time doing things for me, so I wanted to show my appreciation and ” You reach up and give him a quick peck on the lips. “love~”
 “Your love huh?” You didn't even get the chance to reply before the man had you pinned down face first on his desk. “In that case why don’t you show me just how much you love me?”
 “Garp not here, we can’t!” It was to late, his hands had already ripped away both your uniform skirt and underwear.
 “Why, worried about your daddy seeing you?” Garp mocks while landing a hard smack on your ass. “If anything you should worry about him hearing you.”
(Garp absolutely loved the bracelet you gifted him. But even with that being said, he may like the "gift" you're giving him right now a little bit better. Or maybe a lot more, because in his eyes there isn't anything he loves more than getting to fuck Akainu's precious daughter.)
AN- To all my Y/N's who read Garp's part, click me for a surprise
I've been coughing and feeling sick, I don't feel like getting up. This one is a request where female reader gets sick, has a flu, and its set in modern au. How would Law react when he hears that female reader has a flu for about two weeks, while being taken care of by Luffy, Ace, and Sabo? See female reader didn't want to disturb Law from work, so the ASL trio took care of her. Sabo is more responsible than his brothers. Plus Luffy would bring Marco to check on reader.😊🤧😷🤒
Tell me next time, dumbass.
Trafalgar Law x reader (fluff)
A/N: hi! Sorry I took a bit long because I was kinda down myself (can't get out of bed for reasons unknown) and can barely open my phone. So I hope this is alright! (Also unedited)
My masterlist
Tumblr media
Coming up with a fever wasn't really (y/n)'s perfect idea of winter. What she imagined was snowball fights, snowman making, snow angels. Maybe that's the reason she's sick.
She could've told her boyfriend, Trafalgar Law, that is also a doctor, about it so he could take care of her, but she didn't.
She would always listen to him rant about how hectic it is to work in hospital owned by "grandline" whatever whatever it's name was. And she didn't want to bother him by a simple fever.
But that's alright, she has his best friends to help.
The "strawhats" (what Luffy likes to call his gang of friends) would visit from time to time. Especially chopper. Robin's support dog, specialising in anxiety and depression.
Even though the golden retriever is working, he couldn't help but stay beside (y/n) whenever Robin is around to visit.
Nami would usually just lay beside her staring at the ceiling. Mostly because she herself was bored.
While the others would drop by but not as often because they're quite busy.
Luffy on the other hand, would visit with his brother's almost every day.
Ace and Sabo apparently has doctor friends as well. One is named Marco and the other is named... Hongo? Was it?
"In theory, Marco said some warm soup or porridge would help you." Ace said
"In YOUR theory or in this... Marco person's theory?" (Y/n) asked. She knew it would help but hearing Ace say such a thing concerns her
"Wat?"
"What...?"
The two just stared at each other with confusion before sighing.
"You're making me hurt my brain, Ace. Get out of here" she groaned with a frown making him laugh.
"When are you planning to tell your boyfriend that you're sick? I'm sure he's worried because you're not calling him all the time like you used to." Sabi hums softly as he hands (y/n) a bowl of warm porridge as she starts to eat
"You know I don't want to worry him..." She muttered as she ate
"Eh? What do you mean?" Luffy tilts his head, "he asks about you all the time whenever he sees me."
"Wait, really?"
"Yeah! When I said Marco was also helping, he kinda got up and left. I don't know why though..." Luffy muttered to himself with a pout.
"Luffy..." The three sighed with a bit of disappointment in their face
"What? What?"
"Let me take that..." Sabo said as he took the empty bowl from (y/n), "how do you feel...?"
"I'm feeling fine... I suppose..." She muttered slightly.
"Alright..." Ace sighed, "look. You should tell him, even if you're bothering him... I'm sure if I was your boyfr- I mean him, I'd also want to know my girlfriend's state."
She laughed a bit, "I know... I'll tell him eventually..."
"We need to go... I have night shift at work today and some agendas for the next... 2 weeks..." Sabo frowned slightly
"And Garp's coming over... As well as the family reunion in London..." Ace huffed, "will you be alright alone?"
"I'll be fine, don't you worry"
Oh the last words of someone burning up, phasing in and out of consciousness.
(Y/n) reached out to grab her phone, trembling hands scroll through her contacts list, her eyes blurry but eventually clicking one profile and calling it.
Putting it on speaker, and placing it beside her head.
Once she heard the familiar sound of someone on the other end picking up, she coughed slightly.
"Can you... Come over...? I don't feel so good..." She managed to mutter before passing out entirely. All she heard last was a panicked voice of her name being called and soon hanging up.
...
Law's pov
I was sitting at the on-call room, basically glaring at my phone screen, waiting for (y/n) to message me.
"If you stared any harder, that phone would crack" Marco chuckled beside me.
I just groaned a little, "tsk. You wouldn't know the worry I have for my girlfriend because you never had one." I snapped at him with a glare
"Ouch" he rolled his eyes.
My eyes snapped back at my phone once I heard it ring and seeing who was calling, my whole body seemed to relax to realize it was (y/n). After almost three days of silence from her, she finally called.
"Hello?" I answered.
I heard her cough, which wasn't a good sign already, her heavy breathing as well. "Can you... Come over...? I don't feel so good..." she muttered so weakly, I don't think I've ever heard her so weak before hearing her just huff out a heavy breath, I don't know why, but I had a feeling she had passed out.
"(Y/n)...? (Y/n)!" I called but had no more answer than her breathing heavily.
I stood up immediately and grabbed my stuff, changing out of my scrubs as well as I panicked.
"Woah there loverboy, you can't just leave in the middle of your shift" Hongo sighed, "but you know what? I'll take your shift, don't worry. Take care of your girlfriend"
I just gave him a swift nod before leaving and hopping into my car, wasting no time to power it up and drive off to her apartment.
I left my things inside the car, but took my wallet, phone, and the spare keys I had of her apartment with me as I rushed to go and unlock her apartment door.
At first glance, it was relatively quiet. Which wasn't entirely unusual considering at this time of day, she's either drawing or just laying in bed.
After locking the door, I threw my things on the kitchen counter and rushed to her bedroom to see her curled on her bed, her phone beside her head, and her face flush with what seemed to be a high rising fever.
I didn't waste any time and rushed to check her temperature. She was already so hot to the touch, but she started shivering a little.
"Don't worry, I'm here. I'll take care of you" I whispered to her before getting up and doing what is necessary to make her fever go down.
Eventually, her fever had subsided just enough so that her temperature was 39°.
Which was still a bit too high as a human's normal body temperature was 37° but at least a bit lower and manageable than before
"Silly girl..." I frowned as I kissed her forehead.
I continued to take care of her for the next 2 days. Hongo-ya and Marco-ya volunteering to cover my shift.
I'll need to find a way to repay them somehow, but for now, my focus is on (y/n) and her slow recovery.
(Y/n)'s pov
(Y/n) slowly woke up to the smell of what seems to be an aromatic scent of... Soup? Porridge? Whatever it is, it smells delicious.
But oddly enough, she doesn't have an appetite.
The door to her bedroom eventually opened and closed quietly as she then saw, through her thick eyelashes that were blurred with some tears, that Law was now in her apartment.
She could see relief in his actions when he placed down whatever he was doing and sat beside her on the bed, placing a hand on her cheek and wiping away the tears that managed to escape while she slept.
"You're finally awake..." His warm voice calls softly and kissed her forehead, "why didn't you tell me you were sick? I could've been here for you..."
"I... It's just that... You're really busy and... I don't want to..." She muttered before being silenced with a soft hush.
"Enough of that, didn't I tell you already that if you need me, just call...?" He frowned a bit before shaking his head, "we can talk about it once you're better. For now, sit up. I'm helping you eat."
With his help, she was able to sit up with her back against the headboard.
"Ahh" Law said after blowing the steam off a spoonful of soup, "I need you to eat even just a few bites so that you can drink some medicine. Okay...?"
She sighed as she forced herself to eat, she can't taste anything but her gut told her it was delicious.
"Blackleg-ya insisted for me to make you this soup... I hope it's alright" he says as he fed her a couple more times before she refused any more.
"Alright... Wait here and I'll grab some medicine."
She nods weakly as he left, but came back almost immediately with a glass of water and medicine in hand.
"Here..." He says as she drank the medicine and water, "that's my girl..." He smiled softly before kissing her cheek.
"Law..."
"Yes, love?"
"Thank you... For taking care of me all this time..." She smiled softly at him as well.
"Nonsense... This is the bare minimum. I promise, I'll take good care of you in the future. Just call me up and I'll be here. No matter how busy I am." He placed a hand over hers, "I want to kiss you on the lips but I'm afraid I might get infected. But I will kiss you once you're all better."
"I'm looking forward to that..." She said weakly with a tender smile.
"Now, get well soon alright? I'll be here." He smiled, "oh, and one thing... You should've told me, dumbass... I don't care how busy I am or whatever time is. I'll defy all odds just to be here for you."
"That's my boy..." She smiled as he chuckled.
How I long for the time, when your lips would kiss mine
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mihawk x reader.
Title is an excerpt from Blind and Frozen by Beast in Black (again).
This brief fic is the conclusion of a story that started with Built a haven for your love (until I let you fall apart) and continued with (and if nothing brings you back) Surely, I'll roam through life in black.
*****
Three months later.
You smile, more satisfied than greedy, as Vice-Admiral Garp slids a parcel across his desk, close enough to let you take it.
"Thirteen million berries, including the bounty you were owed since last year." he explains as you lift the parcel to stash it in your satchel, without bothering to open it to count the bills neatly stacked inside: you know you can trust the Navy - regarding the money you are due even if not about everything else "Don't take it the wrong way, (name), but I was surprised you had decided to take on this assignment: it is quite a bit below your usual level."
"I am aware. I have been... in poor health, which is why you haven't seen me in a while, and I wanted something simple to make sure I had gotten back to full fitness. From now on I'll be only taking on level three bounties, as usual."
Garp nods, promising to call you when your services will be required. "Got plans for tonight?" he idly adds, leaning back in his chair as he observes you rising from yours.
"I am flattered, Vice-Admiral, but I never mix business and pleasure."
"That was not what I meant. I was simply wondering if there was a reason why a certain man who never spends a minute more than he has to here at our HQ has been sitting in the waiting room for almost two hours twiddling his thumbs."
The mental image makes a smile blossom on your lips; you don't bother trying to deny it, since it would be clearly pointless. "Figuratively, I imagine."
"Probably. Still..."
"Still, thank you for your time. I'll see you soon, Vice-Admiral."
Garp laughs; he seems to find the whole matter highly amusing, which means it is probably a good thing he is discussing it with you and not with the other interested party.
"He was very worried about you; I could feel it in his voice." he suddenly adds, almost as an afterthought.
Mihawk is alone in the room most of your (less memorable, but still dear to your heart) meetings have taken place in, an half-empty glass of red wine in front of him. He is perfectly still, sitting and apparently lost in his thoughts, but the moment you appear at the door he turns to look at you, relief evident in his gaze... or maybe, just maybe, it is you who are able to perceive it.
A simple, inscrutable smile is the only answer he receives, and a moment later you have left his office and are walking down the corridor toward the room Garp mentioned.
"Hello."
He reaches you at the door a moment later, Yoru hanging from on his shoulders, and for a moment you remain face to face, silent as you simply relish being in each other's presence once more. His hand brushes against yours; holding back from hugging him is the hardest thing you have ever had to do.
You happily follow him when Mihawk suggests you go outside to talk, but once you have reached the plaza facing the Marine HQ neither feels the need to actually speak; night is falling, a beautiful sunset painting the sky of a hundred shades of red.
"Has your leg healed?" he asks after a while, as you unhurriedly walk down the pier, the salt-laden air making you feel at home; after all, you were born on an island.
"Perfectly, thank all the Gods. And I took down the pirate i was sent to kill in two days, which means I haven't gotten rusty despite fifteen months of indolence." you happily inform him "I have started with something easy, so as not to overexert myself, but I am tired of sitting around doing nothing; I am ready to get back to business."
"That is good to hear."
You smile, finally taking his hand. "I have missed you." you murmur; it is easy, even pleasant, to utter those words, because no matter how usually strict Mihawk is in judging others, you know you don't need to hide from him, not even the most fragile, most painful part of you "I am so sorry I never called or wrote, I... I needed to be alone. To come to terms with what I had discovered."
"I know, (name). I am not crossed, and..."
"And?"
He sighs; for a moment you simply know he wants to ask whether those three months actually helped, if your heart healed along with your leg or the pain of knowing you will never be a mother, never raise the children you have wanted for nine years, is still part of you, slowly gnawing at your heart like waves gradually wearing away the sturdiest rock. If he did, you are not sure what answer you would give, because you don't have one for yourself. Rationally, you know the passing of time will help, at least a little, and since you have always thought suicide is not the answer you can't help moving on, or at least going on, by inertia if nothing else, and the occasional moment, hour, or even day, of sadness and complete despair doesn't prevent you from cherishing the small and great joys life still throws your way, from the gentle, protective hug of your mother to the pleasure of seeing your bullet, shot from half a mile away, hit the bullseye in the middle of the target's skull... to being finally back in the presence of the man you have never stopped thinking about, even though you had forbidden yourself from using him as an incentive to get back to what you had been. You don't want to be the sort of person who needs her loved one's affection to carry on; you want to be better than that, for yourself first of all and for him as well.
"It is good to see you." Mihawk says after a while; he can't read your mind (or at least, you have no reason to suspect he can; on the other hand, you wouldn't be too surprised...) but you could swear he knows what you are thinking, what you are feeling, or maybe he simply has the gift to say what the person in front of him needs to hear "I have missed you. Again."
"I'm sorry..."
"You don't need to apologize. I just meant..."
"I know, Mihawk. And... I feel the same."
Silence falls between the two of you, and while it is not uncomfortable or tense, as usual when you are with Mihawk, you perceive you can't simply enjoy it as you let time pass you by. You have already wasted so much of it, fifteen months after your first night together (a night thinking back to which makes you still shiver in such a pleasant way; a night that was the beginning of something marvelous, even if not what you hoped) and three after you had quietly confessed to each other you both wanted to be more than simple acquaintances and drinking buddies. You are still young, and rushing things rarely helps, at least when feelings are concerned; but as you said, you have been idle for so long, and you want, you need, to regain control of your life.
"A new restaurant has just opened not far from here; it is pretty good, I am told." you mention after a moment, suddenly thinking back to Garp's conjectures "Would you let me buy you dinner?"
Mihawk grimaces. "I'd be more than happy to dine with you, but you have to let me take the bill."
"I have earned thirteen million berries twenty minutes ago. I think I can afford a dinner for two." you point out, relieved that scowl was not due to the prospect of spending the evening with you.
"That changes nothing. I would have imagined a noblewoman would have been keen on respecting traditions."
You smile; Gods, you are so happy to see him your heart is singing. "Then..." you begin, lowering your voice to an intimate murmur as you take both of his hands in yours, the distance between your bodies reduced to a breath "What if I let you pay for the dinner, and then I take care of dessert? In my inn room?"
Mihawk sighs, his usual serious demeanor betraying his actual feelings: amusement, and relief, and desire. "I suppose an after-dinner drink wouldn't hurt."
"Great."
He kisses you - on the forehead, since you're still in public; when you raise your eyes to his, you can see him smile. "Let's go, then."
The descending night hides you in its dark mantle as you set off along the pier, your fingers still interwined.
deal or no deal
portgas d. ace x reader
making deals with a pirate is a dangerous thing
"we have a contract!" + ace
2.5k words
a/n. i did not intend for this to be so long, but i always forget how easy it is to write for my favourite loveable boy ♡ anyways, this takes place during ace's great blackbeard search cover story hehe
cw. angsty ending and goodbyes (but there's a small epilogue!)
Tumblr media
day 1.
this isn't what you signed up for.
chasing down mountain bandits and patrolling streets? sure. chasing down pirates at sea? absolutely.
what you didn't sign up for when you joined the marines was discovering pirates within your own naval base — a peculiar situation that you find yourself in at the moment.
"start talking now." you stare daggers at the tied up pirate in front of you. "what are you doing here?"
he squirms, doing his best to avoid your gaze. "i'm just looking for someone."
"to do what? rob them? assassinate them?"
"no," ace sighs. "i'm just trying to deliver a letter."
your surprise is quickly replaced with skepticism, ingrained into you by your hours of marine training. you lean in to study him, peering into his eyes to gauge whether he's telling the truth or not.
he has really cute freckles.
you blush at the intrusive thoughts, a wonderfully adorable sight that ace will surely tell you about later.
your eyes land on his arm tattoo, far too familiar for your liking. you recall a conversation you once had with vice admiral garp.
"you're one of whitebeard's men!" you gasp. you narrow your eyes at him. "are you trying to smuggle communications to blackbeard?"
his face hardens. "talking is the last thing i'd be doing if i found him."
disappointment floods you. gathering intel is your specialty, but it's been much harder to find information about blackbeard's coup than you'd like to admit. it would've been too easy if this pirate was in kahoots with him...
"look," he says, straightening up. "maybe we can help each other out."
you raise an eyebrow.
"if you help me with my letter, i'll tell you anything you want to know about marshall d. teach."
"including where he is and what's he's planning?"
"okay, maybe not that" — your face falls — "but only because i don't know! if you're looking into him, we can look together?"
you cross your arms.
"that hardly seems like a fair deal to me - you get your letter delivered and you get information about blackbeard? i'm going to need more than just some outdated background info."
"i'll have you know that i'm a commander under the most powerful pirate in the world," he huffs. "but i'll tell you what - after all this is said and done, you can arrest me."
at this, you stop to think about it. it would do very well for your career to bring in one of whitebeard's big shots. on top of that, imagine if you also had intel about blackbeard's whereabouts! surely, you'd get that promotion you've been vying for.
and while you're fantasizing about the rewards for ace's capture, he smiles to himself. having someone on the inside will help him stay undercover and, if he's lucky, he'll get some answers about teach before he goes on his merry way.
for ace has no intention of being caught by any marine — no matter how cute they are.
"alright," you finally say. "you've got yourself a deal."
he grins, and you falter for what will not be the last time at how handsome he is when he smiles.
"nice t' meet ya, partner."
day 5.
"holy cow, look at the amount of food on that guy's plate!"
"i told you the rumours about the new guy were true."
"where does all that food even go?"
"what a freak..."
the gossip of your peers gets drowned out by the screech of a chair being pulled and the loud thud! of a plastic tray barely supporting the mountain of food on top of it.
"man, don't you love dinner time? you guys have it made!"
"what are you doing?" you hiss.
ace can only offer you a look of confusion, too busy stuffing his face with a drumstick in each hand.
"'you guys?' you're supposed to be one of us, remember?" you point at him with your fork. "and for a guy who's trying to stay undercover, you sure are calling a lot of attention to yourself."
"i can't help it," he says — or tries to say. his voice comes out muffled from the food he's shovelling into his face. "i have needs."
for what it's worth, there is something adorable in the way that this uncouth man looks so happy with his cheeks stuffed like a squirrel. you can't help but giggle, and it makes ace smile.
he thinks to himself,
what a cute laugh.
day 8.
ace yawns, stretching his arms before his hands land on the back of his neck.
"is this where taxpayer money goes? to pay two marines to go for a stroll when they could be doing that for free?"
"it's called patrol, and everyone has to do it," you nudge him with your elbow. "especially non-tax paying criminals disguised as law enforcement."
"y'know, being a marine isn't so hard. boring, but easy enough."
"easy, he says! it's only easy because i'm the one busting my ass to try and keep your cover under control."
ace gives you a sideways glance, flashing a lazy grin. "tomato, to-mah-to."
you roll your eyes, but ace knows you well enough by now to distinguish your seriously-pissed eye roll from your endearingly-annoyed eye roll.
he can say with 99% certainty that this one is the latter.
and to make up up for that missing 1%, ace waggles his eyebrows in the way that made you laugh yesterday. to his delight, you giggle again and he swells.
walking down a line of shoppes, your arm brushes past his as you point to his left, "see that parlour over there? they have the best ice cream in the world."
"that's a ballsy proclamation, officer."
"yeah? what makes you say that, officer?"
"you're talking to the ice cream connoiseur on this side of the ocean. i don't know if i can just take your word for it."
"so you're saying i'm lying?"
"no," he grins at you, devious, dazzling and dashing. he nods towards the store. "i'm saying that we should go get some ice cream."
15 minutes later, ace has to agree that this was, in fact, the best ice cream he's ever had. he laughs at your boasting and your "i told you!" and your sermon about the fruit-to-cream ratio, and he wonders if you know that the reason why he's enjoying this ice cream has nothing to do with the flavour and everything to do with you.
day 16.
"ace? what are you-"
"quick! run!" he grabs your hand and practically drags you down the hallway at lightning speed. you nearly trip over your feet as you run behind him.
"hey! stop right there!" booms a voice behind you.
"we gotta hide!"
like any well-trained soldier, it's answers first and questions later. "there's a closet on your right around the corner!"
ace darts around the corner with you in hot pursuit. he thrusts open the closet and quickly pulls you inside.
"who-"
"shh!"
you hear running getting louder, and you decide to question ace later. in this tiny broom closet, you do your best to discern what's happening on the other side. both of you press an ear to the door and listen carefully.
footsteps approaching. footsteps slowing down. footsteps stopping just outside the closet.
you hold your breath.
it feels like an eternity that ace's pursuer stands on the other side and you don't dare to make a single peep. you lock eyes with ace, who stares back at you with an exhilarated smile.
a voice mutters, "i could've sworn-"
"commodore, sir!"
you gape at ace with wild incredulity.
commodore? you mouth with wide eyes.
he winks at you, holding a finger to his lips.
"they're looking for you in the grand boardroom, sir."
a pause.
"alright, at ease. let's go."
the two men walk away, but neither of you dare say anything until a solid minute after the footsteps fade away. and then-
you smack ace across the chest, "what-"
"ow!"
"-did you do?"
"that hurts!"
you shoot daggers at him.
he smiles sheepishly at you, "okay, i deserve that. but look what i found in his office!"
he holds up a sheet of paper with excitement. in the darkness of the closet, you can't make out the words and only look at him with confusion.
"there's a scout ship coming from the green shores. as far as i know, that's where teach was last seen!" he rushes through his words. "and comil's going to be on that ship! we can kill two birds with one stone!"
he looks at you expectantly as you process what he says.
"if vice admiral comil's on that ship then they'll definitely have detailed notes of their observations... there's no way they wouldn't have gathered intel!"
"that's what i'm saying!"
"ace, that's great!" you throw your arms around him. "this is it!"
it's not until ace instinctively wraps his arms around you that you realize two very important things.
one. if vice admiral comil truly is on that ship, that means that your adventure with ace is coming to an end soon.
your heart sinks.
two. you and ace are alone, hugging, in a very, very dark and cramped broom closet — and you don't want to stop.
your heart races.
you look up at ace and he's never looked more earnest. mischievous, startled, impressed, hungry, and even flirty — you've had the privilege to learn what each of these expressions look like on ace's handsome face.
but this — his eyes boring into yours with an intensity that burns as hot as your cheeks — is a first.
you swear that you can feel his heart beat against your chest. he feels warm, even in an open vest, and you realize that he felt just as warm when he was holding your hand.
he brushes hair out of your face and, for a second time in this room, you hold your breath.
do it.
"you're right," he says quietly. "this is it."
and then, as if he heard your prayer, he kisses you.
day 23.
"are you okay? are you hurt?" you look for any sign of harm under all the soot on ace
"relax, it's just fire." he grins, "they do call me 'firefist ace', y'know."
finished with your examination, you reach up to brush away a bit of ash on his cheek. given any other circumstance, that smug smile on his face would make your heart flush.
right now, though, all you can think about are his words, sinking into your skin like lead.
"i know who you are, ace. the problem is," you do your best to erase any emotion from your voice. "so does everyone else now."
ever impulsive, the implication of ace's actions doesn't hit him until now. silence settles between you for a moment, and in the background, the commotion becomes audible. between the ship fire and ace's identity reveal, you've never heard so much chaos happen at once.
"they're looking for you," you say quietly. "they'll find you soon."
you wish you had more time. in the past 3 weeks, you've realized — on more than once occasion — that this is not what you signed up for. this had started out as a purely transactional relationship between a criminal and law enforcement, i.e. the bad guy and the good guy.
but it's been so much more than that.
in all his smiles and stupidity, his companionship, and his kind, kind heart, ace has proven to you over and over again that he's more than just the bad guy that your training manual has made him out to be.
you thumb the seastone cuffs hanging from your waist, completely lost in your thoughts. your stupid agreement looms over you; you know this is your only chance to arrest him.
it's not until he says your name that you remember where you are.
"did you say something?"
ace takes a deep breath, looking far more serious than you've seen.
"the deal's off."
huh?
"but we have a contract," you cling onto the very thing that you were just cursing. "you can't just do that! you got everything you wanted, you- it's not fair-"
he takes your hand, and the small act of affection is enough to quiet your protests.
"will you listen to me for a second?"
his voice is gentle, careful, loving. you manage to nod.
"i think," he intertwines his fingers in yours. "we both knew that my arrest was never going to happen."
you say nothing, waiting.
"i have no intention of getting captured here," he takes your other hand. "and i don't think you want to do it either."
a pang in your chest. he's right, and you know it. deep down, you knew that you were never going to be able to hold up your end of the bargain. the idea of putting an end to his adventures is something that you could never do.
he presses his forehead against yours, and it's so, so warm. it makes your heart ache. you close your eyes, focusing solely on the warmth that blooms from where you and ace are connected — from your foreheads, from your fingertips — as if it might make this any easier.
"hey," ace's voice is barely a whisper. "look at me."
like a good marine, you do as you're told.
you look into his dark eyes, and they look into yours.
"here's what i want you to do," his breath fans your cheeks.
"you're going to tell the captain that i'm going after blackbeard. tell them that you have information on his defection from the whitebeard pirates for the murder of a crewmate, okay?"
you nod again, willing the tears that are building in your chest to stay where they are.
"and thank you," he says. ace's voice breaks, and that's when the dam cracks. tears fall onto your cheeks as he does his best to continue.
"thank you for your help," ace says, knowing that he's running out of time and conviction to leave. "and for giving me everything i wanted."
he tilts your chin up to wipe away your tears, "you are everything."
and he kisses you for what feels like a millisecond and a lifetime all at once. he tastes like unfinished stories and goodbyes come too soon — like the sweetness of ice cream on a summer afternoon, like the warmth of breakfast on an autumn morning, and the richness of hot cocoa on a winter night.
he tastes like what you imagine love to be.
"wait for me," is the last thing he says to you before he leaves.
and like a good marine, you'll do as you're told.
epilogue.
"mail for ya, sarge!"
you take the letter from the young postal worker, thanking her for delivering your letter. you inspect the letter, curiosity growing as you do. there's no return address or sender, just your name and what looks to be a burn mark.
you smile.
ripping open the envelope, you find a photograph of a freckled pirate in his orange hat in front of an ice cream shoppe, eyes smiling in that way that makes him look like a little kid.
there's a sign in the background that reads "best ice cream in the world!" and you laugh. flipping over the photo of ace, you find a short message.
gonna need you to come verify their claims - let's go together next time.
it's a deal.
Me, vibrating at a frequency that could shatter glass: I wanted a Koby-and-Luffy-Childhood-Friends AU and that turned into a Koby-grows-up-with-the-ASL-brothers AU and THAT turned into me imagining Koby still becoming a marine (Garp is THRILLED TO TEARS. Ace and Luffy give him a lot of grief for it but they're still lowkey proud of him) and one day, completely by chance, he stumbles across the Chief Of Staff Of The Revolutionary Army.
Wanted posters for the Revolutionary Army aren't passed around like the posters for pirates and criminals are, because it's actually very common for a would-be bounty hunter to get recruited to the cause if they seek them out, and the government doesn't want that, so only ranked officers are allowed to actually have them. And Koby, who recently made rank, did find himself staring for a very long time at the slightly blurry black-and-white picture of Sabo(?), Rank Unknown -- but a picture doesn't do a face justice, and he's been carrying that ghost with him for years, so he ultimately set it aside. Told himself not to wish for impossible things.
Only to, less than a week later, end up helping Sabo (Sabo, it's Sabo, holy shit it's Sabo) escape from a marine base. Koby will go to the gallows for this if he gets caught, but both of his other sworn brothers are pirates. He became a marine knowing that if he had to make the choice, he would chose family over duty. Granted, he didn't expect to have to make that choice for at least another few years, but here we are.
The two don't speak much -- there isn't time. Koby gives hushed orders and Sabo whispers clarifying questions and they breathe warnings back and forth, both of them stretching their observation Haki as far as it will go as they tiptoe out of the base.
This boy feels familiar. Sabo can't explain it, but he felt it the second he laid eyes on this young captain. The pink hair, the big eyes. It's worse now that they're standing right next to each other, Haki signatures pressed so close together it's impossible to ignore. This boy feels like feathers and steel, like something soft and warm and earnest wrapped around a core that is solid and steady and unfaltering. He is the waves that erode the shore, patient and gentle but inevitable in their quest for change. Sabo shouldn't be able to read the soul of a stranger this clearly, but he can, somehow. It feels good next to his own roiling storm clouds and piercing cliffs, it feels grounding, but he can't help the strange thought that there should be fire and forest here, somehow. There should be sunlight.
The boy feels familiar, and Sabo hates that he is the one following behind. Which is stupid, because he doesn't know where they're going and obviously the one who does should take the lead, but every corner they turn and patrol they dodge has the spaces between his shoulderblades winding tighter. He wants the captain tucked safely behind him, with Sabo in the lead where he can take the brunt of whatever danger they face. This, too, is strange.
They make it out of the base and down to the docs, where Koby gets Sabo set up -- the guards change shift in thirteen minutes, if Sabo waits there'll be an opening for him to steal a boat and get out of here -- and Sabo takes the opportunity to ask "Are you... sympathetic to the cause?"
The boy stills.
"You aren't on our books, is all. I don't recognize you as an officer. If this is you looking to join, I'm afraid I don't have time to vet you right now, but I can arrange for you to meet with a recruiter--"
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" It comes out a hoarse, furious whisper. Koby wants to scream.
Sabo blinks. "I'm sorry?"
"Is that how you justified it? Oh, it's been so long, they probably forgot about me? Is that what you told yourself?" He needs to keep quiet, he needs to get back inside before he's noticed missing, they can't do this right now -- "Or maybe you just figured out of sight out of mind, right? Since clearly that worked out fine for you!"
Koby waves a hand up and down Sabo, a gesture meant to encompass -- this! All of this. His fading grin and his fancy coat and his fucking wanted poster.
"Chief of Staff. That's impressive. I'm not surprised you're some big shot, it suits you. Are you having fun, Sabo? Is your grand adventure treating you well?"
"I don't know what --" but Koby can't let him talk, because Koby can't breathe, because Sabo is here and he's alive and he's acting like Koby is a stranger to him and if Koby doesn't spit out the words he's suddenly choking on then he's going to collapse into screaming sobs instead and they can't afford that right now.
"Let me guess, secret identities? Code names? It's all so hush-hush, so cloak-and-dagger, you were sworn to secrecy? I don't care. I don't fucking care what reasons you used to justify letting us think you were dead! For ten years! It was selfish, Sabo. It was cruel. And I--" He gasps. Coughs. Sucks in a heavy breath until the salt of the sea breeze settles in his lungs and he can tell himself the wetness on his face is ocean spray. "We mourned you. Ace and Luffy are still mourning you. Dadan and the bandits and Makino and Gramps. Everyone, all of us -- we have all been carrying this grief and you just--!"
Breathe in. Breathe out. Stay quiet. "If this is the life you want, then okay. Okay. But don't you stand there and pretend I'm a stranger to you, and expect me to play along. Don't you do that to me. Not to me."
back on my bullshit, (im here to spam you Marine Luffy stuff)
Thinking about Marine Luffy’s dynamic with the 7 warlords and it's one of the funniest things ever.
Boa Hancock is going to get her own post because I have SO MUCH to say about her and Canon! Luffy along with Marine Luffy’s dynamic with her.
Anyway, personal headcanons of what I think Marine Luffy and the Warlords dynamics are.
Doflamingo: Luffy is usually the one who during Warlord meetings has to deal with Doflamingo’s bullshit. This is partially because Luffy is the only thing that really puts the fear of god back into Doflamingo. Also, Marine luffy is absolutely feral, and terrifying, and does indeed bite. I think in some twisted ways Luffy in this AU reminds Doflamingo of when he's younger. In some fucked up way of trying to cope with trauma Doflamingo tries to simulate situations that he went through as a kid to see how Luffy reacts. To see if things had been a bit better, if things had been different, if Doflamingo could have been a better person. The Dressrosa Arc still happens in this AU except a bit later. As Doflamingo’s tyrant rein finally falls he realizes that “huh maybe we never were that similar…”
(I have no idea if this AU is a Crocomom AU or not but I’ll go ahead and write up how it would go in either situations.)
Crocodile: Dynamic is definitely more cold and distant than in an AU where Crocodile is Luffy’s other parent. Luffy is seen as a threat, and Crocodile has at least 15 different drawn-up plans on how to deal with him. (none of these plans would actually work in practice.) The dynamic is pretty much just business, you leave me be I’ll leave you be.
Crocomom: Similar to the first one. Except the first time he meets Luffy and he hears that he's Garp's grandkid he's freaking the fuck out. Because holyshit, that's his alive, grownup, kid. Crocodile has no idea how to explain to Luffy that like “hey im your biological mother, now a man, hahaha…” So Crocodile simply doesn't. (The two of them do have a heart-to-heart much later alone in Impel down during the breakout.)
Moria: Honestly I don't have much to say about him. Luffy absolutely hates Hogback and Absolom though. So Luffy has a dislike for Moria and what he does. But Moria out of all the warlords not including Kuma is the easiest to deal with, so that earns him some brownie points.
Kuma: Im not sure if you caught up with the latest chapters. (specifically his backstory chapters) so I will be staying silent for now as not to spoil anything for you.
Mihawk: Mihawk is both intrigued and concerned at the beginning. Because that is Shank’s hat, and Shank’s kid. Why is Shank’s brat in the Marines?? Mihawk also like all the other warlords tends to use Luffy as some form of a coping mechanism. It's not uncommon to hear about Luffy and Mihawk getting into another physical fight. But after a while, Mihawk does realize that he has been accidentally treating Luffy as if he is Shanks. Mihawk realizes that he can't force Luffy to become his new sparring partner. Luffy is not Shanks, and he can't fill that hole either. After Marine Ford Mihawk reads the news regularly, a rare grin on his face whenever he catches sight of a straw hat.
Jinbei: That is Luffy’s emotional support parental figure your honor! The only one who is normal, safe, and sane. Also, the only one to look at Luffy and go “Are you okay?? I don't think healthy humans are supposed to act like that.” Also, the one to get Luffy to open up and heal slowly after Marineford. Also Luffy definitely knows the full truth of what happened to Fisher Tiger in this AU, so yeah that's something.
(I am so sorry, this is a really long post 💀)
Aaaahhhhhh!!! I've missed you and your bullshit bombarding my asks!
I love how with each dynamic all of them are also like, 'alright this kid is fucked up, keep an eye on him' but for different reasons
So here are some of my thoughts on what Marine Luffy’s relationship is with the warlords (love yours so much)
Crocodile : so unfortunately not a coco-mom au, like you said their relationship is strictly business, Luffy doesn't really care for the warlords as long as they don't get in his way.
Domflamingo : Luffy finds him kinda annoying so he tries to avoid any situation where he would meet him, unfortunately he can't at warlord meetings, but he's tried, probably one of the only warlords Luffy wouldn't mind punching out of the blue, dude would punch him without reason (gets away with it too)
Kuma : (no sadly not that far yet but I know a bit of his background not much though) but Luffy likes him
Moria : almost the same relationship as Domflamingo, except he just straight up avoids him, unless he has to deal with Moria then he will and he'll do it quickly
Mihawk : one of the few warlords Luffy actually respects, he admires his fighting and his character, granted it annoyed him a bit to constantly be reminded of Shanks, like you said he also like the other warlords used luffy as some form of coping, but after he realized what he did he stopped and him and Luffy kinda became like gossip buddies, like they'd hang out whenever Mihawk was in the area, but Luffy wouldn't actively seek him out, Mihawk would have to come to him if he wanted someone to talk to or spar with,
Jimbe : only warlord and person that Luffy actually likes from the warlords, yes he likes Mihawk, but Jimbe is different, Luffy has a sort of awe for Jimbe and felt very honored to know about him and his past with Fisher Tiger, Jimbe is the only one who knows that Luffy secretly wishes he was a pirate instead of a Marine, when Jimbe asked why Luffy didn't just become a pirate now Luffy replied saying that he's made so many promises to the people he protects that he doesn't want to go back, not now at least, Jimbe is also the only one who knows about Ace and Sabo and how much Luffy misses them and how proud he is of them
absolutely love your asks 🩷
Have aa good day/night
Secrets romantic's dates
Shanks x Reader
(I don't know much about what to write so I made this)
Tumblr media
- I can't believe, I can't believe that my granddaughter is going date with the redhead!- Garp pressed the sheet of the newspaper, which said that YN, who was from the Mugiwara crew, was going out with Yonkou Shanks
And it was almost true, Shanks wanted to go public with that, that made the crew doubtful.
- YN, are you going out with Redhead?!- Nami asked
- what? No? Yes? I don't know, I can explain!- YN said
- grandpa will be mad at you, haha!- Luffy said between laughs
- Don't laugh, Luffy! And I just met him, it wasn't a romantic date, it's not my fault if Shanks is exaggerated!- YN said leaving the room, complaining softly about how Shanks was a fool because of that
- ah, YN-san, isn't love something amazing?- Brook said
- no.- YN said rudely
- I don't know what made Shanks think that our only dates were romantic, they just invited me for a drink - YN said while sitting in the chair, leaning on the kitchen table
- A letter arrived for you, YN- Zoro entered
- Letter? Is there a way to send letters across the ocean?- YN would get up and take the letter
- well, if it arrived, yes - Zoro replied
And obviously, it was a letter from Shanks, which said a lot of praise about the girl, how he thought she was a sweet and kind girl and wanted to meet her on a certain island, just YN and Shanks
- agh...- YN hesitates, he knew what could happen if he didn't go, but... what if he didn't? Could something happen?
Yn respectfully declines, and she sends the letter the same way Shanks had sent it, which was written on the paper.
- She refused...- Shanks said, while the rest of the crew felt bad for him.
-Are you going to try again?- Benn asked, already knowing the answer.
- obviously - Shanks smiled, getting ready to write another letter
°•°•°•°
That was until YN couldn't take it anymore, even being rude in his letters, but Shanks wouldn't give up, until YN finally accepted.
°•°•
They meet, just like Shanks said, just YN and Shanks, he takes YN to as many places as possible, he was willing to win the beautiful girl's heart
- YN, I want to tell you something, since the first time I saw you, you... It just didn't get out of my head - Shanks said, YN listening attentively, Shanks saw her for the first time when Luffy's gang was almost completely formed , Luffy said that YN knew him since he was little but he lived on another island but that he visited Luffy sometimes
°•°
- I'm in love, YN- Shanks said, YN looks away, not knowing what to answer
- YN - Shanks called her with a slight smile
- I don't know... I don't know... I'm very confused - YN replied, not being able to face Shanks
-I understand-Shanks said.
- I don't want to leave my crew, Shanks -
- no need to do that, I wouldn't want to leave my crew either -
- Shanks... I feel so bad- YN spoke, Shanks approaches her, hugging her gently
- you don't have to do anything if you don't want to - Shanks said putting his chin on top of YN's head
- I want... But I don't want either - YN said while snuggling in the grip that the redhead offered
- you're so annoying, I like that- YN said finally looking at Shanks
"So is that a "yes"?- Shanks asked
- maybe...- YN replied
Brook was right, love is an amazing thing, but if you do it, it's perfect.
...
- Can I kiss you?- YN asked, having nothing in response ah but the redhead's lips, Shanks felt accomplished, finally having a whole day with his new romantic but unofficial partner, Shanks and YN decided to keep it a secret about that specific day, but, still exchanging letters when they can, sometimes they manage to meet, and when they meet, Shanks tends to leave many kisses and hugs in YN, enjoying every second with his beloved, Shanks does not interfere in Luffy's adventures, he just wants to have his secret meetings with his beloved
Garp once got cussed out by Sun's personality au Luffy when he had seastone on and Garp didn't know how to react.
OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOH--
Garp saw Luffy, drenched an tangled in the seastone net, and he wasn't making a sound. Garp didn't care to notice, he marched over to where Luffy was sat on the ship deck and covered his fist in a bit of haki, before punching the kid in the head.
Instead of rubber Garp's knuckles hit a solid skull, Luffy's head snapped down with the force, his teeth clacking together and his head didn't bounce back like it was supposed to. Luffy didn't whine, or yell or even cry. He just sat there. So Garp broke the silence. "You brat! This is what I get for raising you?! You're still a damned pirate!" He went to, because it was easy, he'd said it a hundred times before, he'd likely say it a hundred times again. He didn't bring up anything, he didn't mention that now, Luffy would never be a marine - now that his parentage was out.
Luffy finally raised his head, and Garp almost relieved at the return to normalcy; he was about to yell about how he was gonna be a pirate whether Garp liked it or not, and whine like a kid about not wanting to be a marine, just like back in the good old days when Garp could fit all three of his grandsons in one arm.
"You didn't raise me. You killed the man that raised me." Luffy grit, and the eyes that met Garp's were not grumpy, or even teary like when he last saw his grandson on Ace's final stage. Luffy was looking at him in a way Garp hadn't seen in a decade, the way Ace used to look when he thought too long. Hatred, grief, mistrust, the kind of look you had to earn.
Garp's teeth grit in turn. "Ace made his choice--"
"You made the choice to get in my way. Don't you dare accuse Ace of deserving what happened and don't act like I'm a child who doesn't understand exactly what you chose." Luffy hissed, his whole form shaking, his face pale and his pupils pinpricks. On his knees he was the same height he was when Garp would ruffle his hair and carry him when he fell asleep, but now Garp faced a man.
"I swore myself to the marines--"
"You were the closest thing Ace had to a father!" Luffy yelled, trying to get to his feet but his eyes glazed over and he fell to his knees again. He was breathing harshly. "Maybe it's a pirate thing, maybe it's because I'm a outlaw but I would have given up every oath I have if it mean't Ace kept his promise to not die! I would have sold myself to the marines in an instant if it meant Ace got the chance to live the life he wanted!" He barked. "But that's not justice, is it? Justice is hunting children, shooting down free men and bowing to the masters who would take your life because all they've ever known is to take! I hate you!" He thrashed in the seastone net, but it did nothing.
Garp stared at the man that used to be his brash, weepy grandson. The man who used to beg Garp to train him more if only to stay on the island a little longer. The man who used to come back to Dadan's with large bruises, broken bones and a smile because he got just a little closer to Ace that day. The man who loves so completely and unconditionally he doesn't mind bleeding for it. The man who couldn't lie. The man who said he hated Garp, after his love ran out of excuses.
Garp looked at the man, truly looked at him past the resemblance he had to Garp's youngest grandson.
Because his grandson, the only one he had left, was gone.
Just a quick ask-
If the Red Force in the JT AU ever decides to lay low on Dawn Island (while looking for the Gomu fruit) with Luffy tagging along because, of course, he is lol, how does the whole mountain bandit debacle go down? Number one, Shanks is well-known at this point; years go by, and all, but still, his face was plastered into every single person's face at least once for the last six years. He's probably almost Emperor level at this point, and the pirate/marine world still says his name with awe, sympathy, and fear.
So, are they undercover? Shanks and crew dress down, hide the red hair and straw hat, row to shore just far enough out so the inhabitants can't see his ship properly? Also, I don't know if this version of Shanks would just shrug his shoulders and take the bandits' taunts. I mean, he could; it could be a "I've eaten scarier things for lunch, and this is barely a fly of an inconvenience." Or maybe it's because they're undercover he can't do anything? That would absolutely grind his patients and when he can finally just stab the guy na break his face in it’s gonna be so cathartic. Is this why he won’t loose his arm this way here but later? Because he just beats the bandit into an inch of his life before he can capture Luffy?
Also is Mihawk here? Just hanging around or is he off doing secret war lord stuff.
Also, is this how Garp finds out about Luffy? Or I’m completely off base with all of this but hypothetically if this all happened what the out come?
Anyways, this AU has brought me so much joy through such a hard semester and general few months. It really made my year; thank you.
Ohhh we're diving into the good parts here. Yessssss. To start, yeah, Shanks' face has been cemented into the public collective, and he's peaking. Already wildly powerful, but still a ways off from emperor status. At this point in the timeline he's gone into a period of 'calm', he's overcome the initial hurdles he faced after Loguetown, and is now taking a more protracted approach to climbing the ladder, i.e, stuff like the Gomu fruit. There's only so much that brute force and violence can bring at any given time, and he's instilled enough awe, sympathy, and fear in people that he can afford to dip down a bit. All that is to say that, yes, AU Shanks does in fact lay low at Dawn island for a year like in canon. Which brings us to the actual laying low part. Luffy is at the ripe age of six now, is fully glued to Shanks, and Shanks has free time on his hands. So he decides he wants to begin training Luffy in the ways of pirating, but he also does not want anything to threaten his well-being in any way, shape, or form. The compromise is to take Luffy along with him on this clandestine mission for the Gomu Gomu. (that Dragon agreed to let Luffy go was due greatly to Luffy's incessant whining getting in the way of him writing his political treatises) They do have to go undercover, or at least proceed very cautiously and secretively. (this is the part were Shanks dyes his hair) What helps them is that the inhabitants of Dawn Island, minus the nobles, are sympathetic towards pirates and their cause against the WG, and actively work to conceal Shanks' presence on the island/his ship. And Shanks has visited the island briefly once before, when Luffy was born on it. He's known to the inhabitants. Shanks would disregard the bandits in much the same way he does in canon, and never engages with them for the sake of the mission, up until the point when they try to lay a hand on Luffy, and that in particular does grind on him, because of Luffy having to witness everything and not understanding why Shanks doesn't fight back, they way Shanks has been teaching him to. So there's some pent-up unconscious rage at play when he finally lets loose on the bandits. The bandits come after Luffy because Shanks has been found out and the bandits were sent to retrieve Luffy, and while Shanks kills the others, one still does take Luffy. But the chase after him goes on for days instead of Luffy being found at once, so technically Shanks loses his arm much later than he does in canon. Garp already knows about Luffy at this point, but he's never had any concrete leads/opportunities to make a grab at him. When he finds out Shanks is on the island with Luffy, he decides to make a move and kidnap Luffy and stow him away with Dadan, where unbeknownst to anyone else, Garp is also hiding Ace with. Which leads into a whole other mess for a later date. Mihawk is in the middle of the formation of the Warlords, but he visits Shanks regularly on the island, which makes this period one of their hardest so far, as they have to be separated. Their individual tasks distract them, though, Shanks has a handful dealing with Luffy and searching for the Gomu Gomu, and Mihawk likewise has a handful with the new Warlords, so they stay busy enough to withstand the other's absence. Right back at you! I'm so glad you like it so much! It's really making my year too, it's so much fun!
One Piece Live Action
EPISODE 1: ROMANCE DAWN - review
Here is the first of my reviews on what I liked and didn't like about the first episode of the live action. I have been writing as I watched the episode for the second time, so it is written in chronological order with references to future episodes.
Tumblr media
To begin with, I was very happy with Roger's execution scene. I have to admit that, as soon as Garp appeared giving the previous speech, I doubted if it was like that in the manga. I had to look it up and I'm still hesitating, but I couldn't find anything about Garp being present that day. It's a pretty cool addition, it makes a lot of sense: Roger originated the great age of piracy while Garp is a very proud marine who works every day to erradicate it, his face when Roger says his last words is magnificent. And for those who watch the live action without knowing the original story it means nothing, but for those of us who do know what Garp and Roger really are to each other it was great.
From the beginning you start to notice that the characters are slightly different (I think the Luffy in the manga wouldn't know what mutiny means) but Oda was right when he said that there are things that maybe his Luffy wouldn't say, but it looks good because the words are spoken by Iñaki. Luffy for me is the one who behaves the most different from his original version and I'm not sure he convinces me all the time, but I think our Luffy would be very difficult to translate to the screen by a real actor without being unbearable. Luffy's case is more obvious but it will happen with Nami and Sanji as well, their personalities are very intense and for a live action it was necessary to tone them down.
Alvida is wonderful from the first minute, the actress is a 10/10 in all her scenes (Ilia, please call me, I am free on weekends), confident and menacing and sometimes ridiculous. Perfect. Koby more of the same, Morgan Davies has done a great job playing the scared Koby from the beginning. I loved the first scene of Luffy and Koby together.
What I didn't like so much is the battle against Alvida, the action is one of the weakest points of the series and they have been smart to reduce it just to the necessary because most of them are just barely good enough.
However, one of my favorite things about the live action is how they've connected the characters from the different arcs, especially the villains, it gives it a greater scale that in the manga we didn't see until much later. In the Marineford saga especially, we started to see that many characters know each other because of x or y, because they have a common past, because they did business together, whatever. I thought it was smart to add something like that already. In this chapter, for example, we have Morgan mentioning that he was the one who arrested Kuro.
I say this because adding the fun fact that Zoro killed the previous Mr 7, something that in the manga is only mentioned in passing a whole saga later and has no importance and using it to justify his presence in Shells Town, is brilliant to me. The my favorite is number 1 thing? Foreshadowing at its best if we have a second season.
I'm also of the opinion that while Luffy has the worst action scenes because in the end seeing the fruit is weird at times, Zoro has the best ones. Fellow Zoro stans, I don't know if you feel the same way I do but they are a delight to watch for me. Mackenyu, you are glorious.
Shanks... I liked him but my god, the hair. What is that, is that a wig? is that his hair with a bad dye? I don't know but it looks terrible, the whole wig thing in live action is a complaint I have. The series has opted for an artificial look on purpose and you can tell, similar to the series A Series of Unfortunate Events (and it was a good idea because the gyojins probably would not have worked otherwise), but the hair department doesn't convince me. Also, Makino seemed a bit weird to me, if she hadn't been characterized at the beginning I wouldn't have thought it was her, but then she has a scene with Luffy (small Luffy, you did great too!) in which I did appreciate her personality better.
Another thing about this live action… is that it's not subtle at all, Oda is a master of show don't tell and the difference starts to show soon. Luffy doesn't go around asking people what their dreams are in the manga (he does it only in very few occasions) and I think they could have worked on the script a little more to see how Luffy, without asking directly, inspires people to tell him those things.
We move on to the bar, the moment when Luffy, Zoro and Nami see each other for the first time (kind of, because Luffy and Nami notice Zoro but he doesn't notice them and Luffy and Nami don't seem to notice each other either). Very well done too, I loved it and it's one of my favorite scenes in the whole live action. Luffy eating with Coby, Zoro picking a fight (my god, he is FINE) and Nami taking advantage of the chaos to get what she needs. The stuff with Zoro, Rika, Helmeppo and the rice balls, even if it's different, makes me infinitely happy that it was kept because it's important to understand that Zoro is much less of a dick than he appears to be.
Luffy, tell Sanji about the rice balls, this fandom is begging you.
I also found it curious that they have chosen to insist a lot on Zoro being a bounty hunter, we see Zoro emphasizing several times throughout the live action on the money they provide him, and it's striking because it's not like that at all in the manga. It gives him less of a sucker vibe and that makes me a little sad because I really like that Zoro became a bounty hunter because he needed to eat and he didn't know how to get back to his village. I like my men dumb as a rock. I assume they did it that way because they wanted to tell us what he is but what he doesn't want to be, just like it happened with Coby and it's going to happen with all the mugiwara, so Luffy can ask him the question about what his real goal is.
Anywat, both the first time Luffy and Zoro talk and Luffy and Nami talk inside the navy base are perfect, you can see the differences in their personalities from the first moment. I will always defend that meeting Luffy changes the lives of all the mugiwaras but the most obvious changes are in Zoro and Nami (maybe Robin), they owe Luffy their literal personalities.
I think Zoro breaking into Helmeppo's room while the latter is naked and acting cool with the Wado Ichimonji is cinema, I'm glad they included it. The haircut was a great touch.
Luffy and Nami's shenanigans inside the navy base, from the safe robbery to the fight in the courtyard where they are joined by Zoro... I really like that. The part where Zoro is about to leave but decides to turn around and fight them fits his personality from the beginning very well but it's actually pretty Nami coded too, she has a scene like that in Orange Town in the manga where she almost leaves but in the end feels bad for leaving them to their fate and comes back. Zoro and Nami are very similar and this live action highlights it a lot, we'll see that (episode 5, my beloved).
The battle against Morgan is short and concise, and I repeat: I think they did very well not to drag the action out longer than necessary. The part of Zoro carrying the safe and leaving Nami speechless before such a display of brute force I personally liked it a lot, it's a clear reference to the scene of Luffy and the cage in Orange Town in the manga.
The Shells Town escape also is a great idea. I already wrote a post about why I don't agree at all that Zoro's loyalty to Luffy is immediate and Nami certainly isn't loyal from the start. That they don't say yes to Luffy, but that it's more of a we have to get out of here and right now these other two people are the only allies I have works very well with them because it's exactly how they started in the manga as well.
To finish with this first review, I want to mention a last point in favor of the live action: increasing Garp's presence in the saga and making him the big antagonist present in all the arcs, I will go deeper into this in other chapters. It's very important to see how his relationship with Koby develops (and to think that this was written before the recent events in the manga, good lord).
And Buggy has the best first appearance of all. My king.
I will never not push my Luffy likes "feminine" things or is genderfluid agenda.
Like, I feel like he would maybe not understand the concept of clothes and items being inherently feminine or masculine. Or maybe he just wouldn't care and would just wear stuff that he likes and feels comfortable in (As he absolutely should).
Makino, Shanks, and his crew were very supportive/didn't care if Luffy sometimes wore dresses or "girly things". Garp was never around enough to catch on and possibly try to say no.
Dadan hardly saw Luffy since he was always just out in the jungle. Ace and Sabo thought it was weird at first and kind of tried to explain, but gave up/accepted it when Luffy just did not get it/did not care.
He went on through his life just wearing what he liked and not giving a shit what anyone thought. It wasn't until he was a little older that he got negative feedback. After that, maybe he was a little more subdued about his interest in more "feminine" clothes and accessories.
I just think it would be sweet if he slowly got more and more comfortable around the crew and just kind of showed his true colors for them.
Like maybe Nami or Usopp was the first to know.
Like one day when they were in this little town on some island Nami finds Luffy outside some little boutique clothing store or something, looking in one of the windows longingly at this pretty blue skirt with sunflowers.
He's just standing there looking at it and kind of clenching his hands on his shorts. Then it kind of clicks for Nami. She comes up and asks if he likes the skirt. He kind of hesitantly says yes, then she says she'll buy it for him, but he owes her of course.
When she hands him the little bag with the skirt and a pretty pair of fish earrings she tossed in too he looks at her like she filled the sea and hung the stars. She soon starts having little dress up days with him and generally just bonding a little more.
If she sometimes treats him like a doll and spoils him with pretty things, no one needs to know.
With Usopp I feel like they would be walking together in a market in some town just talking and having a good time, when Luffy would get kind of quiet before trailing over to some vendor selling sundresses or something. He would look at this cute little yellow sundress with red fish on it then ask the vendor how much.
The vendor would smile, say the price, and ask if it's for his girlfriend. Luffy would kind of cringe (which Usopp absolutely catches) and kind of sweat his way through a very butchered answer of no.
The vendor might look at his with a kind of confused face before leaning in and asking if it's for Luffy. I feel like he would nod and then the vendor would either be chill with it, or react negatively. If they were chill, he would get the dress and Usopp would kind of breeze over it and store that for later. Or compliment his dress choice before launching into some grand story vaguely related to the topic of dresses.
If the vendor reacted negatively, then I think Usopp would step in and try to diffuse the situation or stick up for Luffy or something.
Anyway, I don't know why, but I would want those two to be the first to know. The rest can find our later. So yeah, tell me what you think
Hello, can I ask from this ask game :
https://www.tumblr.com/threecheersforinking/677824836625694720/anime-ask-game?source=share
For anime/manga : Haikyuu, One Piece, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
Thanks 🌻
Sure, looks fun!
Jujutsu Kaisen
Favorite Character: Kenjaku, Yuuji, Yuki, Choso, Geto
Favorite arc/episode/scene: Different answers for all of these lol. Favorite arc would probably he a tie between Hidden Inventory/Shibuya (I think if I reread Culling Games though it could potentially overtake Shibuya, despite it's flaws). Favorite episode would be the Choso vs. Yuuji fight (ep 13 or 14 season 2?) And also episode 6 of season 2, Premature Death. Favorite scene is is probably a tie between the "I'm You" scene with Yuuji and Mahito and also Mai's death :'(
Character I think is underrated: Hmmm I think Hakari. I think this is the same answer I gave before but I don't think he gets enough love :( Just such a fun character, never disappointed when he gets screentime, he has such a cool CT and also mindset and I'm hoping we get to see more of his fight with Uraume!
Character I think is overrated: Hmm it really just has to be Gojo doesn't it lmao. And I say this where he's still in my top ten characters in the series and used to be in top five, but his popularity is so so so much that you also get terrible interpretations of this character ALL the time and it's very grating. I'm very sad he died (I cried when I read the leaks lmao) but my eye does twitch a lil when I see Gojo revival theories after like 6-7 months for him when the narrative keeps reaffirming he's dead.
Fave ship/Pairing: Threeway tie between Satosugu, Nobamaki, and Chosoyuki. Honorable mention to my rarepair Takaken.
Something I love about the series: I think Yuuji really is the heart of the series and he's such an engaging and complex protagonist. I think the themes around death and purpose in life and death are explored in such an interesting way with him where he's such a kid but has to grow up so quickly in the face of such overwhelming tragedy in his life, knowing that for a lot of the stuff that happens, it's because he's alive and acted as the vessel to Sukuna. Any and all complaints of JJK never involve him and any scene he's in, it's always when the focus is away from him that a few issues arise for me. Also as a sidenote, big fan of the lore when we do get crumbs of it lol.
(One Piece and Haikyuu!! will be under the cut)
One Piece
Favorite Character: For strawhats probably a three-way tie between Zoro, Sanji and Robin. Also Luffy. For non Strawhats probably Corazon and Law, Pudding, Dragon, Vivi, and Crocodile.
Favorite arc/episode/scene: This is so difficult with this series lmao. Favorite arc still has to be Water 7 (and if I can wrap Enies Lobby in there too I would). Favorite episode would probably be Episode 1015, that shit was movie quality lmao. Favorite scene...so many to choose from omg. Right now my gut says the moment Sanji came back to the crew in WCI, or maybe Corazon and Law's last moments, or maybe the Alabasta goodbye, or maybe Robin's backstory, or maybe Nothing Happened, or maybe Gear 5-I could go on lmao.
Character I think is underrated: People need to start RESPECTING Pudding omg. She's just a girl in this world, and she's fucked up, but her arc in WCI was so so good and I just see people call her a bitch (which, YEAH, that's the point genius). Obviously I don't like that she hurt Sanji, but she grows from that and changes and the why is very clear after getting her backstory.
Character I think is overrated: Controversial Opinion but Garp. Don't get me wrong I think he's a very well written character and he's interesting and needed in the story, but he has such a large fanbase that go "Golly he's such a victim of the system :(." ...You mean the system HE'S voluntarily upholding???? He's so terrible to Luffy but ESPECIALLY Ace, and Koby might be his student but Koby is already twice the man Garp is lmao. I feel no sympathy for this man sorry.
Favorite ship: Frobin and Zosan, honorable mention to Namivivi as well. Frobin makes the absolute most sense in this world and Zosan I find to be a very fun exploration of both characters, even if it makes a lil less sense sometimes.
Something I love about the series: So I'm never going to claim One Piece is perfect, I have my issues with it. But it is undeniable that there is such love and care and joy injected into this series, while also balancing some really dark/realistic themes and concepts. Such incredibly strong character writing and worldbuilding, but most importantly Oda threads his themes through EVERYTHING in such an engaging way. I can talk about this series for hours upon hours I love it SO much.
Haikyuu!! (Forgive me this is the one I've watched the least recently plus I'm anime only lol)
Favorite character: I actually haven't talked about him much but probably Sugawara! Also Oikawa, Hinata, Bokuto, and Tsukishima are some of my faves as well
Favorite arc/episode/scene: Ooh maybe The Spring High Preliminary arc? I'm very excited for the movie though and I've heard great things about that arc as well. And not really an arc but I really really enjoy anytime they're training together, some of my favorite moments from the show even though they are less hype lmao.
Character I think is underrated: Sugawara >:( I just get him like no other and also kind of related with him being the second best setter on a team anskslxlfl
Character I think is overrated: Hmm don't feel too strongly about any character being overrated, maaaaybe Kageyama? I know most people would say Oikawa lmao but I like him he's the kinda pathetic man I like <3
Fave ship: Bokuaka!! Kind of elaborated before but yeah I just think they have a very sweet dynamic where they compensate for the other's quirks very well. Also love Hinata/Kageyama ofc, and also IwaOi
Something I love about the series: I think this is such a strong start point for people getting into anime or sports anime, idk if it's necessarily doing anything revolutionary but it just does everything right you know? Good feel good show and I do also particularly appreciate the volleyball aspect as that is my favorite sport lmao.
yayayay thank you so much!!!!
❄️Share a snippet from a WIP of your choosing.
Here's some crack taken deathly seriously (One Piece H2O AU) ((also it's G-8 because G-8 fucks)) (((the context is that Luffy saved Usopp's goggles from getting reeled in by Jonathan so he had them on him while delivering the food, also the lenses were upgraded during Alabasta because there's another plot point involving them with Crocodile 😊)))
Jonathan follows Luffy's gaze, to Usopp's goggles lying next to his shoes. He leans down and picks them up by the length of fishing line still tangled around the headband. He holds them in front of his face, inquisitive gaze switching from the line to Luffy.  Luffy tries not to meet his eyes and sticks a hand out. "Can I have those back?" "Answer my questions and you can have them, plus my lunch."  Luffy drags his line of sight back to the man's face. "You promise?" He doesn't seem like he's lying. In fact, he's surprisingly earnest for a guy in a coat like that.  "I promise," he says. "You can even take the food now, if you'd like." Luffy nods, and throws a hand over Jonathan's shoulder to grab the plate. "Alright. Sorry I insulted you earlier, base guy." Jonathan doesn't stop him, or even take the opportunity to attack. Instead, he looks satisfied as Luffy starts eating. "So, what are you doing here?"  "I smelled food. I was hungry." The rest of the meatballs are just as good as the first few. Luffy's going to have to ask Sanji to make these again once they get out of here.  Jonathan nods slowly. "And what are you doing in my base? What's your motive?"  Luffy tilts his head as he licks the plate. "We didn't mean to come here. We fell from the sky." "If I didn't see it myself, I wouldn't believe that." There's a sparkle in Jonathan's eyes. "Guess you're lucky I did." Luffy grins as he tosses the plate aside. "Guess so." Jonathan holds the goggles up to his eyes and Luffy feels the smile slide off his face.  "Can I have those back now?" He asks, quickly, before Jonathan can see something he really shouldn't.  Jonathan looks around them and smiles. "I'm not finished with my questions. You've already eaten, so I need some reason for you to play along." Luffy frowns and contemplates throwing a hand forward and grabbing for the goggles.  It might start a fight. His crew can't afford to get into a fight. Not here, not now. Definitely not with a man on the same level as grandpa Garp.  Still, they're in a kitchen, so maybe Luffy could make some of the sinks go off and make a break for it- Jonathan holds the lenses up to his eyes and peers through them.  "So, what's so important about these that-" He blinks. His mouth opens again, but he doesn't finish his question.  He lowers the goggles and stares at Luffy like he's seeing him for the first time. This is wrong. It's breaking the promise. "It was you," Jonathan says.  A rivulet of sweat runs hot down Luffy's cold face. His jaw feels like it's been cemented shut.  "It wasn't," he forces out, and studies the fish pattern on the paneling of the walls. "I don't know what you're talking about." "It was," says Jonathan as he leans forward, staring him down. "My men said they saw someone in the water with black hair."  "It wasn't me," Luffy reiterates.  Jonathan continues on as if he's said nothing. "Someone with dark eyes and sharp teeth." He pulls the goggles in front of his eyes again. "You're a bad liar, Monkey D. Luffy." Luffy snaps his mouth shut and thinks this must be what Ace meant when they made that promise all those years ago; when he talked about someone seeing all the little pieces of him he never wanted to share.
🌤️Share your favorite piece of dialogue from your WIP.
OH this is HARD uhhhhh... my favorite might be this exchange because 1. Nami my beloved and 2. I've had the belly joke locked and loaded for YEARS. They give me big sibling vibes, especially in this AU.
Nami nods, slowly. She's hoping he'll continue because she has no clue where he's taking this.  "And you guys are my crew, even though I think about it all the time. You're all still here." Luffy's quiet for a moment. He stares at the wall in front of him and runs his hands around the rough brim of his hat.  Then he fixes her with a smile so bright it feels like the sun.  "I trust you, Nami. I don't care what you think about. You don't have to tell me all that stuff." She feels the tears from earlier threatening to overflow now.  Luffy tugs his hat on and his smile grows wider.  "Come on," he says, leaning in. "Be our navigator again." She doesn't understand it- this unwavering trust. Not yet.  Nami rubs her eyes with the back of her hand and flashes him a watery smile of her own. "Okay," she says, with a nod. Luffy throws his hands up in the air and cheers.  She sniffles as he winces from the sudden movement tugging at his injuries. "So," she asks once he turns to look at her again, eyes bright and a grin on his face. "Where are we putting you on display?" The smile stays plastered on his face while he pauses, then he bursts into another fit of laughter. He slaps her on the back as he giggles the nerves away. “Nami, don’t joke about that!” “I’m thinking ten- no, fifteen thousand per person.” She grabs him by the cheek and pulls, watching his face stretch and warp. “Maybe more.” “No!” Luffy manages to wail before she lets go and his features spring back to normal. "I'm not doing that!"
☔Is there a fic concept you have that you'd like to just explain and share because you're not sure you'll ever write it? If so, what is it?
Yes OMG!! I have a modern/college AU fic for One Piece, but I'll probably never write it because college/modern AUs just aren't my thing.
It came around from a reddit thread asking which tropes we aren't fans of and I got into a nice discussion w/ someone about why we don't like those types of AUs!
So I decided to take matters into my own hands and in this AU everyone still has their powers. Luffy is still a rubber man, Nami can still sense the weather and is a cat burglar by night, Chopper is still a talking reindeer, Sanji can still light himself on fire, etc, etc for all the Strawhats. It's just that I threw them onto a college campus and said have fun. Luffy gathers up his gang of extraordinary people as the story goes on. He's definitely enrolled in classes, but no one can figure out what his major is and he doesn't even seem to know himself (so he just doesn't go to class). Someone (cough Dragon cough) is paying for his tuition tho, so he hangs around.
It isn't SUPER detailed, but I did have fun developing the world and figuring out how stuff would have to change. Also it's fun to play around with and it keeps my brain occupied when I'm not thinking about H2O stuff LOL. I just never thought it would lend very well to an actual telling of OP, so I never bothered writing anything for it. Thinking about it longer than 30 seconds introduces a lot of plot holes/character inconsistencies because it isn't too well-developed.
Thank you again! This was a ton of fun :D
Some call it Chaos. We call it Family.
“I don't mean any harm, she just bumped into me and I helped her-yoi,” He said, slowly putting his arms down, smirk still on his face, “But I've got to ask, what is Monkey D. Luna, the Fenrir, doing here? On an island that is under the protection of the Whitebeard pirates-yoi?”
Luna stared in awe at the older male and Zoro scowled.
“Who are you?” Zoro asked.
Before Marco could introduce himself, Luna beat him to it with, “He's Marco the Phoenix! The first mate of the Whitebeard pirates!”
It was clear from her voice that she was excited, and Zoro stared in confusion, since when did Luna memorize the names of the pirates out there.
Marco looked at Luna, “That's a surprise; you're known to not know the names of any pirates you cross. Saying that you don't remember the names of those not important to you-yoi.”
Luna shrugged, “True. But my older brother talks highly of you guys, so I caught some of the names.”
Zoro relaxed a bit, Luna's older brother is Shanks, and if she heard about Marco from him then he isn't a bad person.
Luna moved forwards and caught Marco's hand into hers. “Hey! Can you tell me stories about your adventures?”
Marco got a confused look, glancing at Zoro, who in return just shrugged.
“Why wanna hear them from the first mate, when we can go to the captain and ask him himself about all the stories?” Zoro suggested.
Luna looked even more excited, but then deflated. “I can't meet him like this.”
Marco didn't understand, but Zoro did, so he just nodded. Luna wouldn’t want to meet Whitebeard while she was a marine, she wanted to meet him when she became a captain of her own pirate crew and would be considered as a rival. “Alright.” Then he looked to the pirate, “You probably should just tell her stories so she'll be satisfied and leave you.”
Marco just nodded slowly in confusion. Luna cheered and started dragging both the blond pirate and her friend towards a restaurant.
Marco stared incredulous at the marine. He had recognized her at first glance, how can he not when she suddenly appeared two years ago out of nowhere, only for it to be announced that she is the granddaughter of Garp the Fist. She is a marine captain, and it is confusing that she is still in this position even though it has been proved that she is stronger that that position. But it had seemed that the Five Elders favor her due to all the freedom they provide her. When he saw her blush at him, he couldn't help the smirk from appearing. She was a beautiful woman, and while he wouldn't mind pursuing her, he didn't want to force himself on a young woman who could not have even become legal, not that legality matters to him as he's a pirate, but he knows when not to cross a line. And she's a marine, who is close to the government, now that would be dangerous.
But as he watched how she acted, he couldn't help but be reminded of Roger and a certain red haired pirate. Maybe it's because of the look in her eye. Marco wonders why someone with that gaze is with the marines.
Once they had arrived to a restaurant, Luna looked as if she had remembered something. So, she let go of both males, and ordered Zoro not to move from his place as she took out a small DenDen mushi from her pants’ pocket. She dialed a number, not having to wait for too long as the person on the other end answered.
“Did you find Zoro?”
The voice was that of a female, and at the question Zoro had scowled. Marco chuckled with Luna at that expression.
“Yup!” Luna replied, “We're in a restaurant right now. I'll try not to let him leave my sight!”
The other girl sighed in annoyance, “Alright then, listen here, this island belongs to an Emperor, and we just want to restock our supplies, so please don't cause any trouble.”
Well, seems like Marco found out why they're here.
“Okay!” Luna chirped and just ended the call before there was anything else to be said. She turned to Zoro, “We'll stay here for now, I wanna eat and you can drink then after the others are done restocking, we'll leave.”
Turning to Marco, “So, won't you join us?”
Marco let out a small laugh, grinning at the younger girl making her blush slightly. “Well, you dragged me here already, so why not-yoi?”
Zoro, to his horror, saw the interaction between them. His captain is blushing, this was a first, she never blushes at all, maybe in a few situation from embarrassment, but this is not embarrassment.
‘Please... Please don't be a crush.’ Zoro begged to himself, ‘If this is a crush, Garp and Shanks are going to kill me.’
“Zoro, What's with you?” Luna asked her best friend when she saw his horrified expression.
Zoro turned his gaze to stare blankly at Luna, “Please think, Luna. Don't get me killed by your big brother and grandfather.”
Luna looked confused, “What? Why will they want to kill you?”
Now this made Zoro look to Marco, eyes looking at the blond with pity, “Wait, maybe they won't kill me. They will probably attack him.”
Marco tensed up. Who is going to attack him? Garp and who?
“Why will Jii-chan and Nii-chan attack Marco?” Luna also tensed up, “I like him, and I don't want him to die.”
Marco felt a blush creep up to his cheeks at her latter sentence. And Zoro sent them a deadpan look, “This, right here,” the gestured between the pair, “Whatever is going between you too, is what is gonna get him killed by your overprotective family.”
Oh.
Oh.
Luna felt a full-on blush take over her face and Marco's own blush deepened. Ok so the reason he was in danger right now is because apparently the younger one is interested in him? Marco felt himself relax at this, and he could feel the slight fluttering in his stomach.
Huh.
This is unexpected.
“I don't wanna deal with this.” Zoro grumbled to himself, walking towards the counter to order some beer for himself and after he got what he wanted, he sat in the corner of the restaurant, as far away from Luna and Marco.
Marco stared in bewilderment, what he first thought of Zoro was that he was overprotective over his captain. So why leave her alone with a pirate. A Commander of the Whitebeard pirates as well.
Luna seemed to have noticed his confusion, “Zoro trusts that you won't attack me, you are from the Whitebeards after all. And besides... If you do attack me, he knows that his captain can take care of herself.”
Marco grinned at her reply, “Well then, Captain Fenrir-”
Luna flinched at the name, and Marco had noticed that. He sent her a worried look. Does she not like the name Fenrir? People say that it signifies her strength, does it not?
“Just call me Luna, not Fenrir.” Luna whispered, her voice had anger laced with it, but it didn't seem to be directed at him. Her eyes looked angry yet sad, not an expression he thought he would see on a girl to looked to always be cheerful.
He felt himself nod in response without even thinking of it, “Uh, yeah sure.”
Luna's mood made a switch, and she went back to grinning at him, this time brighter. She let out a laugh of “Shishishi” and leaned towards Marco. She laid a peck on him cheek, and pulled back.
Marco went back to blushing. What's with this girl making him blush?
“I like you.” Luna announced, “Go out on a date with me.”
And at that moment her crew entered the restaurant, and saw the interaction, and the three each let out an exclamation of “WHAT?!” While Zoro sighed into his drink.
“Oh I-,” Marco stuttered, not sure how to respond. He didn't expect to be asked out, that the girl would be this bold, but he also didn't expect for him to slip out a “Sure” either.
And it was then that Luna got herself a boyfriend, who from that moment started to fall for her. But right now, it's not love. But it will be, in the near future.
