super editions are more fun/interesting when it focuses on a. a side story (firestar’s quest, tigerheart’s shadow etc.) or gives us the Tragic Backstory (tm) of a beloved character (bluestar’s prophecy, crookedstar’s promise) but this whole like re-hash of events but from a different character’s perspective are just kinda.... boring?
im using onestar’s confession as an example cuz it just came out but like it applies to leopardstar’s honor too because these are cats who have done some pretty Not Great things in canon. we know this we literally read about it and watched our POV character react to it.
we didn’t need to know the Exact Motivation for onestar rejecting smoke and darktail. we could already infer as readers that having a kittypet mate and kid are kinda frowned upon in the clans and we already saw the drastic change from onewhisker to onestar so like it tracks! i didnt need to hear about how he things Kittypets can never be warriors because this one Totally Real Windclan Apprentice Brushpaw died from a skirmish with shadowclan and now he doesnt think kittypets can make good warriors (ignore firestar tho! he did it!) and how smoke told onestar she’s pregnant when his territory was being turned into a parkng lot like so he Had to turn her away cuz he was a Good Warrior Now like i dont care!
it was more fun and interesting when we could theorize exactly Why onestar made the choices he did. why he turned so drastically on firestar and thunderclan after he was made leader. why he rejected smoke and darktail and his feelings on the matter. instead, we get over explanations, retcons, and a really really sad attempt to make him sympathetic when like depending on who you ask he mightve already been pretty sympathetic!
so at the end of the day we get a boring slog of a POV because we already know how the story goes so nothing is surprising and they made our main character date his former apprentice for some fucking reason. like seriously why didn’t they retcon That shit out god

AlderSky AU Part 1
So, when I was reading AVOS, I was always kind of expecting for Alderpaw/heart to join SkyClan as a poetic full circle kind of situation: His grandparents Fire and Sand were the ones to reform the lost Clan, he has SkyClan blood through Bramblestar (being a descendant of Cloudstar and Birdsong’s kits), and he raised Twig - it all just seemed so perfect!
But then the Erins decided to stick with the status quo and I could not help be feel like it was a huge wast of potential on Alderheart’s end. So, I decided to write my own version of Alderheart and Needletail joining SkyClan.
(There will be multiple parts and will be written in more of a summery style, so let me know if anyone wants a more story-like version) Now, let’s start!
Things are mostly the same up until the quest to find SkyClan, though it does happen a litter earlier, so Alderpaw and Needlepaw are a little bit older. During the quest, both Alderpaw and Needlepaw are taken by a Twoleg and are driven away from the quest group. Alder and Needle eventually escape, but are so far from Clan territory that they have no idea where they are. Thankfully, by StarClan’s wish, they do manage to find the now wandering SkyClan. (This is about right before the events of Pebbleshine’s Kits)
When Alder and Needle introduce themselves, Echosong realizes that, Alderpaw being Firestar’s grandson, might be the “Spark that Remains” prophecy.
Leafstar and others (mainly Hawkwing), are suspicious after everything with Darktail, and while they agree to let Alder and needle travel with them, they will not be part of SkyClan until they either stay with the group for a moon or prove their loyalty. Alderpaw thinks that is reasonable while Needlepaw thinks it is excessive.
Alderpaw and Needlepaw are able to guide SkyClan in the general direction they came from, but since they came to the area via kid/catnapping they do not know they specific way. One pointer is that they are able to prevent Pebbleshine from being taken, which earns them Hawkwing’s support.
When Plumwillow goes into labor by the lake, Alderpaw is there to help and Plumwillow is grateful to the apprentice for his help. Alderpaw is also there to assist in Pebbleshine’s birth of Twigkit and Violetkit. And when the dogs burst into the camp, Needlepaw helps fight them off.
By the time Curlypaw and Parselyseed leave to become kittypets, both Alderpaw and Needlepaw have proven that they can be loyal SkyClan warriors.
Leafstar makes both cats the offer to join the SkyClan as full members. Needlepaw says yes immediately, having already been disillusioned to ShadowClan and feeling more connected to SkyClan. Alderpaw has to think about it a bit more, admitting that while he loves SkyClan and already feels massive amounts of loyalty to the cats, he still loves and misses his kin back in ThunderClan.
He later has a dream that night where he is visited by Firestar and Sandstorm. Firestar tells his grandson that even though he left his kittypet life behind, that does not mean he forgot or stopped loving his kin who were still kittypets and he applies that logic to Alderpaw’s dilemma. This gives Alderpaw the resolve to tell Leafstar that he will also be joining SkyClan.
With Curlypaw having left, Needlepaw become Hawkwing’s new apprentice and the two get along like a dry bush on fire. Alderpaw starts training under Echosong, but the SkyClan Medicine Cat is already training Fidgetpaw and she also leaves soon after to follow her vision.
Alderpaw allows Fidgetpaw to continue to be SkyClan’s main Medicine Cat Apprentice since the SkyClan cats are more used to him. Alderpaw, meanwhile, tends to spend his days helping Plumwillow and Pebbleshine with their kits: playing with them, helping keep the nursery clean, keeping an eye on the health of the kits and their mothers. He also ends up filling the role of a father to Reedkit, Finkit and Dewkit since Hawkwing is with his own daughters and Sandynose is still missing.
This continues until the other cats are captured (including Fidgetpaw and Waspwhisker). Now Alderpaw is left as SkyClan’s Medicine Cat and Hawkwing is made deputy. This is also when Leafstar decides that Needlepaw is more than ready for her warrior name.
Leafstar decides to name her Needlestorm, in honor of both her strong personality and fighting skills and also in memory of Sandstorm. Needle loves her new name and both Hawkwing and Alderpaw are very proud.
Alderpaw, meanwhile, struggles with the responsibilities of being the only cat with Medicine training. He has gotten steadily more and more stressed and it shows. While this does not stop him from successfully treating the sickness and saving both Rileypool and Firefern from dying, it is clear that his nerves and the stress of it all is getting to him.
Echosong eventually returns and expresses her pride and gratitude to Alderpaw for treating her Clanmates while she was away as well as her grief at Fidgetpaw’s capture. Alderpaw is grateful that Echosong is back, but the events have made Alderpaw question if being a Medicine Cat is really the right choice for him...
Meanwhile, Sandynose is finally able to reunite with SkyClan and his family - though instead of his kits being more attached to Hawkwing, now they are more attached to Alderpaw - and cat Sandynose has never meet.
This leads to Sandynose being a bit hostile to Alderpaw, which the younger tom understanbds, but it does not help his stress levels. Needlestorm sees this has a word with both Alderpaw and Sandynose.
She tells Sandynose off for taking out his misplaced frustration out of Alderpaw, who has done nothing but love his and Plumwillow’s kits like they are his own and cared for them when Sandynose could not. She also reminds him that Alderpaw is the Medicine Cat Apprentice and it is his job to look after the well-being of the Clan’s kits, and even if he is still getting used to her and Alderpaw, that is not excuse to treat them unfairly.
Sandynose is stunned by the she-cat’s words but admits that she is is right and will put in more effort to be kinder to Alderpaw.
Later, Needlestorm talks to Alderpaw, concerned about his recent stress levels and constant nervous attitude. Alderpaw kind of ends breaking down right in front of Needlestorm and in his ramble induced panic admits that he did not even choose to be train as a Medicine Cat, Leafpool and Jayfeather received a vision about him and he was doing so poorly in warrior cat training that his father decided to push into the Medicine Cat role.
This surprises Needlestorm, but she does not say anything, just cuddles close to Alderpaw as he just, lets all his pent up emotions out. He eventually falls asleep on her shoulder and she stays there, not wanting to disturb him.
It does get her thinking though... Is there a role that might suit Alderpaw better?
And that’s all for part 1 for now. Check out part 2 for more!

12, 21, 23, and 25?
12. The unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
I don't think I need to say this to you cause I've blabbed about it for a while but Heathertail!! I've always been pretty fond of her, she's a very interesting character and I don't think people give her nearly enough credit for what we've seen of her when you remove her from the Heatherbreeze ship. I think her friendship with Lionpaw before All That Happened was really sweet and I thought it was nice to see an example of a forbidden relationship that was just... two children with a crush on each other that quickly realized it wouldn't work out. But she's also a person who, while she holds personal grudges (for justified reasons imo but-) she will still break the rules for that person to do the right thing. Like, it was against the law to give Lionblaze their medicine, and she justifiably hates this guy and makes sure to point that out... but she's not going to let cats get hurt if she can avoid it. And I haven't read Crowfeather's Trial but that combined with how she acts around Breezepelt is... idk it's interesting! Especially now that she's retconned to be Onestar's kid (which I have conflicting feelings on but yknow still it's interesting)
There's also Dovewing but I feel like more and more people are coming around to her. Thank you Moonkitti. Another I can think of is Onestar, or at least pre AVoS Onestar (which honestly I'm disregarding in my brain cause like... god he was just SUCH a random choice for Darktail's father that I'm halfway convinced that they changed their minds on who it was in between The Apprentice's Quest and Thunder and Shadow) I like a character who gets negative development actually. He starts off as perfectly pleasant and a nice friend for Fireheart in WindClan, but forced leadership and an assassination attempt twisted him to become more bitter and cut Firestar off. And that's just the surface, there's an undercurrent in Winds of Change that Onewhisker is a doormat who is actually being told what to do by Firestar- like it's not something Firestar is deliberately and knowingly exploiting or anything, but what Firestar says, Onewhisker will do because "Well, I DO owe it to him, and it wouldn't KILL me". So seeing his experiences yank him out of that mindset and into someone who becomes more conservative, backfiring on Tallstar cause he changed his deputy in the worst way possible, is actually really compelling to me. I wish they did more with it tbh.
21. Part of canon you think is overhyped
Disclaimer that this bars anything Arc 6 and up cause I haven't read that far.
Mmm tbh... not totally sure what to point at specifically? Cause like, there's a lot I could point to cause like... tbh I think we all collectively remember a lot of WC scenes to be so much cooler than they actually were cause of all the MAPs.
Is it cheating to say most of DOTC? I actually do think the first three books are solid, at least from what I remember of them. But the entire arc is held up as a must read. Which is pretty sad cause I don't see people talk about... actual plot points in DotC all that often. Which I feel is pretty telling.
23. Ship you've unwillingly come around to
Hmmm another hard one cause I don't really have a ton of ships. Or any that I've been "unwilling" on...
I guess Heatherbreeze? I mildly enjoy it in concept but I don't really like how people just reduce Heathertail to "Breezepelt's happy ending". idk.
25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
Oh anytime the fandom complains about characters besides the protagonists being angry at said protagonists for understandable reasons, to the point of calling those characters stupid idiots even when it's literally "the protagonist got this person's friend killed". Like when people literally portrayed ShadowClan in Night Whispers as petty and mean and dumb for.... being mad at Lionblaze for literally murdering their deputy. And saying Russetfur deserved to die anyways cause she was old and fighting Firestar (who led an attack on her camp btw). Or when Dawnpelt was called an overreacting insane bitch when she blamed Jayfeather for Flametail's death (despite Flametail doing the same thing and worse cause he tried to kill Jayfeather in return but yknow. It's only bad if girls do it) Like... yes she was wrong to do that especially when Jayfeather was innocent and he was totally justified to just save himself in the end. but she was grieving and grief can be messy. Y'know? Also when people got mad at Tigerheart when he threatened Ivypool when the Dark Forest tried to make her attack Flametail's spirit. Yes Ivypool was being manipulated but he's allowed to be pissed in the moment dude!

Okay, I perused some old Warriors controversy posts and I found the one about the Siamese cats from Firestar's Quest and I gotta say:
WHAT. THE. FUCK. ERINS.
Firestar's Quest was published in 2007. I don't know how long we have been complaining about the racist Siamese cats from Lady and the Tramp and The Aristocats, but we definitely started before that year. What kind of rock were they under when they were penning these two characters? The ONLY thing they were missing was the massive buck teeth! They even got the cowardly Asian thing down, for Christ's sake!
I can't BELIEVE the Erins actually got away with publishing this segment, let alone marketed the book towards youths. I'm actually concerned now how kids' minds are being affected reading these. I'm concerned for the Erins themselves. Do they think blatant racism like this is just funny and cute? Do they really not care about the implications? Do they even realize why these stereotypes fell out of favor?
Viva la Wings of Fire, but hopefully NOT so viva that funny dragon series gets to this point. Jesus Christ.

Reading a couple of chapters of Moonrise just before I have to go out and do stuff and it just immediately hits me how this passage:
Stormfur felt a stab of jealousy at the sight of the two ThunderClan cats close together, and tried to push it away. He had no right to admire Squirrelpaw, and her courage and bright optimism, as much as he did, when they came from different Clans. Brambleclaw would make her a much better mate.
not only has me groaning because it's like "Oh great, here we go pushing the romantic subplot way too early", but also how it comes across so incredibly badly considering Squirrelpaw is, at most, 10 moons old. More realistically about 9 going by time references in the books themselves.
You can make the argument based on the extra time Firestar's Quest adds to the timeline that everyone is about a year older than their stated ages IIRC. But that's rather dishonest and definitely not consistent with the text.
I really wouldn't have minded if Squirrel and Leaf were aged up a little to be about young warrior aged much like Crowpaw. Particularly because I feel like frustrated older apprentice who's being denied her assessment and warrior name due to immaturity and disobedience fits the kind of character she is at this time. And it'd help her fit better in the group dynamic rather than making her feel like the obligatory tag-along kid.
(Though at that point the writers may have wanted to consider whether she and Crowpaw are redundant characters and merge them. Which to be honest, canon in itself already makes the argument for. What was the point of doubling up on the apprentice characters in the journey?)
We would loose a little in the Mothpool department. "Young teen Lesbian crushing on a young adult who from her perspective seems to be so much more mature but under the surface is very much not as well put together as she seems" is a great dynamic they have going on towards the beginning. But I think the sacrifice would be worth it.

I know there are lots of WC books, boy do I know. But put your most faves of the series and rate them - shipping-shiggy.
oh fuck this is HARD
hmmmmmm...... im gonna do this in categories i think, putting under the cut bc this could get long
alright i'll start with super editions, since theyre the most cut and dry i think
crookedstar's promise, it's super good, very emotional, i love crookedstar
tallstar's revenge, very gay, love it
this one's kinda difficult bc i havent read most of the older ones in a long time, so i think my answer would probably change once i've reread them, so... tentatively, im gonna say crowfeather's trial, for the sole reason that i have been a crowfeather fan since i was 10
ok next up im gonna do it by arc, and then after that i'll pick my faves out of those faves
for the prophecies begin:
into the wild, ofc
rising storm
i think a dangerous path and the darkest hour are tied here
honestly, the first arc in general is just rly solid, probably the best in the series (altho not my favorite arc)
now for the new prophecy... disclaimer, i havent read these books in at least 6 years, and i dont remember hardly anything so im going off wiki summaries lmao
starlight (windclan civil war my beloved, oh if only you were better fleshed out and expanded on)
sunset (good bramblehawk content lmao)
moonrise
power of three time
eclipse!! when i was a kid i reread this book over and over bc i thought the battle in the tunnels was just SO fucking cool, and yknow what? i was right
dark river
the sight
omen of the stars
the last hope for the sheer impact it had on me as a kid (also i still cry over firestar's death lmao)
night whispers
the forgotten warrior
dawn of the clans, my favorite arc!
the first battle, it has my favorite line in the series and is just. so good.
a forest divided
path of stars
a vision of shadows
SHATTERED SKY this is in my top 5 of all time, i LOVE how fucking dark it is, i can't get enough, i want more warriors books that are this level of fucked
thunder and shadow
the apprentice's quest
honestly this arc... kinda sucks lmao, it has some high points but overall... nah
the broken code! this is probably my 2nd or 3rd fave arc, i rly liked it
lost stars, incredibly strong start to an arc
the silent thaw, was not bored for even a single page reading this one, which is very rare for warriors
darkness within bc of how dark it is, even in comparison to the rest of this arc; like, that scene where the sisters are trying to summon bramblestar's ghost but instead it's a bunch of ghost cats screaming in agony?? fucking awesome
aaand i can't rly rate the current arc since theres only one book out dnfgdjkfh but i really loved river, i think this arc is gonna be pretty good!
soooo overall rankings! we have:
shattered sky, i could read it again and again, i swear
the first battle
into the wild
and just for funsies here are some of my least favorite books, not rly categorized bc im getting tired of typing<3
yellowfang's secret, leopardstar's honor, squirrelflight's hope, the sun trail (seriously fuck this book), outcast (every time the erins write a traveling book i die a little more inside), the fourth apprentice, river of fire, and the place of no stars

moonkitti bramblesquirrel video: summary notes
please keep in mind that because i wanted to keep things shorter and, well, summarized, i included close to no quotes. moon uses a lot of quotes, so if you want evidence from within the text i would suggest skimming through the video. secondly, i didn’t include any of my personal opinions for obvious reasons.
link to video. content warning for discussions of abuse.
BRIEF SUMMARY: to say that bramblesquirrel are both entirely in the wrong is completely ignoring the consistent signs of an abuser that bramblestar exhibits, just as squirrelflight behaves like a victim of abuse. there is a clear power imbalance between them that has been present since the beginning of their relationship.
NOTES: about a 10 minute read
INTRO > the fandom has brought about a belief/take that squirrelflight and bramblestar are equally bad to each other. this is a compromise; a way to excuse bramblestar’s poor behaviour & find reason for him to treat squirrelflight poorly.
> the fandom consistently brings up reasons for him to treat her cruelly (victim blaming), as though someone being annoying is any reason to treat them badly.
> the fandom also jumps between using cat morals (the warrior code) and human morals to back up their opinions. when squirrelflight helped the sisters, she disobeyed her leader (against the code), but it was for a morally good reason. she was doing the right thing.
> there is a clear power imbalance between bramblestar and squirrelflight. more on that later.
THE NEW PROPHECY > squirrelflight doesn’t trust hawkfrost, and neither does leafpool based on previous experience. when she confronts brambleclaw about this, he believes that this is because of who hawkfrost’s father is. squirrelflight insists that that is not why.
> brambleclaw continues to work with hawkfrost, training in the dark forest with tigerstar (the one thing that he is upset with squirrelflight for accusing him of). he believes that hawkfrost is a good person, even when mudclaw reveals that he and hawkfrost were working together.
> brambleclaw doesn’t listen to squirrelflight’s concerns or take her seriously. they do not trust each other.
> throughout their hawkfrost-disagreement, brambleclaw continues to find excuses to punish/scold her. squirrelflight defends herself, acting aggressive/defensive. she’s growing closer with ashfur, trusting him and preferring how he treats her. >>> “that’s what you want, is it? a loyal warrior to follow after you and smooth all the thorns out of your pelt?” brambleclaw mocks her for wanting someone who will treat her kindly.
> brambleclaw continues to get more controlling and aggressive, while ashfur is overprotective and also controlling/babies her. brambleclaw is very cold and passive-aggressive towards squirrelflight & her relationship with ashfur. it is unclear whether ashsquirrel are mates or not, but they are likely in the middle phase (on the path to becoming mates but not officially mates yet).
> squirrelflight eventually realizes she still has feelings for brambleclaw (for some reason) and breaks it off with ashfur. leafpool receives a vision from starclan which confirms that they are bramblesquirrel shippers too! wow thanks starclan.
> to conclude: brambleclaw was projecting his insecurities about tigerstar onto squirrelflight (while also training in the DF with tiger). he pushes her away when she attempts to talk with him, and goes out of his way to boss her around/control her. squirrelflight was not intentionally trying to upset him.
LEAFPOOL’S WISH > brambleclaw isn’t treating squirrelflight like an equal. >>> “brambleclaw wants me to fetch soaked moss for the nursery, even though it’s an apprentice task. he hasn’t stopped giving out orders since firestar made him deputy!” /// “...treating me like i’m still wet behind the ears.”
> squirrelflight is having issues only a month into the (new, romantic) relationship. she feels patronized. there has almost always been a power imbalance in their relationship (apprentice/warrior and now warrior/deputy).
> when it comes to the three, squirrelflight states multiple times that she doesn’t want to lie to brambleclaw. she doesn’t change her mind until she finds out that she is barren and will never have biological children. starclan themselves tell her this, pressuring her into taking the kits.
POWER OF THE THREE and OMEN OF THE STARS > their relationship is solid until hollyleaf reveals the truth about her parents at the gathering. brambleclaw breaks up with squirrelflight on the spot, not understanding why she didn’t trust him enough to tell him.
> the question is, can we trust brambleclaw? he trained in the dark forest and never told her, he held a grudge against squirrelflight for months, etc. of course he had every right to break up with her, but squirrelflight rightfully had worries.
> after their break up, brambleclaw avoids, ignores and acts very passive-aggressively towards her. in forth apprentice, it is mentioned that they hadn’t spoken in months. their only communication was squirrelflight watching him longingly & sadly.
> before the tribe quest, squirrelflight asks brambleclaw if he has a message for the tribe. jayfeather detects something else in her voice, and he realizes that she wants brambleclaw to show her any kind of sign that he still cares about her.
> after finding out about the three’s powers, brambleclaw accuses her of lying, intentionally trying to hurt him, etc. they fight several times. then, suddenly, near the end of the last hope, they are on good terms. this is a pattern in their relationship: brambleclaw only treating squirrelflight fairly during/after a huge crisis has occurred. this time, it’s the last hope battle. after the battle, he trusts her and makes her deputy.
> why does brambleclaw suddenly trust her after treating her so passive-aggressively for a whole year? he manipulated and controlled her, punished her for hurting him, and there was still a power imbalance. he’s not just her mate, he’s now her leader.
> while brambleclaw gave her the cold-shoulder, squirrelflight acted very submissive and sad. she’s typically headstrong, independent and active. brambleclaw makes her act scared.
BRAMBLESTAR’S STORM > bramblesquirrel are not together and their relationship seems to work best this way.
> bramblestar chose squirrelflight as deputy because she has her own ideas and will challenge him. he’s glad she’s deputy and thinks she’s good at her job, believing that he would be “lost without her.”
> scenes with jessy are trying to show us that squirrelflight is jealous. during a couple of scenes, squirrelflight does act unreasonably and snaps at bramblestar, where jessy defends him. >>> “wow, is she always like this?” “yeah, pretty much.” - bramblestar and jessy > later, bramblestar and jessy go out together. when they get back, bramblestar forgets to tell anybody that he saw windclan trespassing for, like, 10 minutes. squirrelflight is frustrated, but even after he gets injured, she doesn’t scold him.
> after they help shadowclan, bramblestar understands why squirrelflight lied to him. she was protecting leafpool, which he gets because he would also do anything for his sister. he says he respects her and her courage. they also acknowledge that lion, jay and holly are their real kids. >>> “squirrelflight and i share a bond that cannot be broken” - inner monologue from bramblestar
A VISION OF SHADOWS > squirrelflight is pregnant, proving that starclan lied to her about being barren. bramblesquirrel have some casual scenes, although squirrelflight is a bit “toned down” / not as independent. this may just be because she’s not a pov character or because she’s getting older.
thats literally it
SQUIRRELFLIGHT’S HOPE this one is like 50% of the video!
> squirrelflight likes the idea of having another litter of kits and bramblestar gives her a vague response. it is important to note that she didn’t ask anything, she just mentioned the idea.
> she changes the subject, wanting to feel like they’re young again! bramblestar is serious and talks about the gathering. it is implied that they haven’t had fun in a while and that he isn’t giving her much attention.
> they discuss the skyclan territory dispute at the gathering. bramblestar doesn’t want thunderclan or skyclan to give away territory. squirrelflight gives her own solution, that there is territory above thunder and shadow. she believes that this is an open discussion for different ideas.
> after the gathering, he is furious at her for giving her own idea without discussing it with him first, and that skyclan will have to move again. he also mentions that the territory she’s talking about could have dangerous animals, and that warriors could die because of her idea.
> because this is a discussion over territory, squirrelflight mentions that the clans are getting bigger + that there will be new kits by new-leaf. throughout the entire talk, he had been growling and lashing his tail.
> bramblestar deflects and brings up something that she had already dropped: having more kits. he is scolding her, attempting to trivialize her feelings. he runs away, and squirrelflight follows him, trying to continue the discussion. >>> then he guilt-trips her, “isn’t being deputy enough?” he is accusatory and it is clear that he doesn’t want to have this discussion. > squirrelflight explains that she’s worried because she knows she’s getting older and wants another littler before it’s too late. to herself, she worries that because bramblestar has nine lives, he will live longer than her and eventually replace her. >>> “don’t you love me anymore?” she asks. could be a guilt-trip, could be a genuine question because squirrelflight feels unloved.
> afterwards, bramblestar apologies. he admits that he brought up the kits out of anger because he felt like she wasn’t on his side at the meeting. he says that he would love to have another litter with her, but squirrelflight can Tell that he doesn’t, he’s just saying it because she wants kits. she never brings up the topic of kits again.
> moon super briefly goes over the cycle of abuse: tension between the abuser and the abused (abused feels anxious), abuser lashes out, then afterwards feels bad/apologizes + there’s a brief “peace” period. this happens multiple times in the bramblesquirrel relationship, with hawkfrost, with the three, etc. something else to note is that every time they reconcile, they have a litter of kits, so it wouldn’t be hard to say that squirrelflight associates the “peace” period with motherhood.
> squirrelflight feels very guilty, like she’s replaceable, and blames herself. she goes over the argument in her head again. eventually, she and leafstar go explore the territory beyond thunderclan. squirrelflight feels bad about lying to bramblestar, but doesn’t tell him even when given the opportunity (running into sparkpelt). she believes that she is doing the morally right thing but knows that bramblestar wouldnt agree with her.
> while she’s with the sisters, she only grows more anxious, feels bad for the trouble she’s causing thunderclan, and worries about bramblestar’s anger.
> when thunderclan find her and bring her back to camp, bramblestar puts a restriction on her. if she’s “going to act like an apprentice,” then she must run every decision by him. no more going off on her own, no more “arguing” at the gathering. he is using his power as leader to control her. he threatens to replace her as deputy, causing squirrelflight to panic about how he no longer trusts her.
> later, bramblestar micromanages her. he orders squirrelflight to tell him how she’s organizing the dawn patrol and blatantly insults her methods. bramblestar is using a “trust exercise” to express his anger and lash out. squirrelflight defends herself, saying that she loves him & her clan. >>> “bramblestar was supposed to be her mate. why couldn’t he talk to her instead of trying to make her feel small?”
> after sparkpelt reveals that she’s pregnant and bramblestar mentions having kits to squirrelflight, squirrelflight snaps at him. she feels guilty about it. she also feels bad about not being happier for sparkpelt, feeling selfish, guilty for wanting something that bramblestar doesn’t, and scared that she’s never going to be happy again. she feels as though she’s making all the wrong choices.
> squirrelflight finds sunrise (a sister) injured and brings her to camp, knowing that bramblestar will be angry (as does the rest of the clan), but wanting to do the right thing. bramblestar refuses to help sunrise until he gets starclan’s approval, but it’s clear that he is acting out of anger towards squirrelflight.
> the message from starclan is incredibly vague, and bramblesquirrel disagree over it. squirrelflight insists on helping sunrise no matter bramblestar’s feelings, and bramblestar worries that helping sunrise will cause tension between the clans.
> when leafpool goes to help sunrise, bramblestar stands in front of her as a way to physically threaten her to step back. squirrelflight worries that bramblestar will fight leafpool just to stop her, so she jumps in front of leafpool to protect her. while this is happening, sunrise is dying. >>> “we can’t keep doing this. if you keep undermining my authority, you could destroy the whole clan” despite bramblestar’s words, squirrelflight wants to do what she knows is right. she believes that thunderclan is stronger than any leader/deputy disputes. >>> “why are you doing this to me? you’re my deputy. you’re my mate. you’re supposed to support me” /// “thanks to you, there’s not even unity in thunderclan anymore.” bramblestar guilt-trips her, unable to physically intimidate anyone into stopping. squirrelflight isn’t trying to hurt him, she’s trying to do what’s right.
> later on, bramblestar suddenly forgives her, but implies that he is willing to put the sisters in danger for what was previously squirrelflight’s plan. he wants to drive the sisters out by force. > tension between the clans grow, which sparkpelt blames bramblestar for. squirrelflight jumps to his defense. >>> “why are you sticking up for him? he’s hardly spoken to you in days. he’s been treating you like an apprentice. and you’re defending him! why are you being such a mouseheart?” sparkpelt says, making it clear that other cats are aware of bramblesquirrel’s toxicity. > bramblestar does not see squirrelflight as an equal. when he’s upset with her, he treats her as such, talking down to her, giving her apprentice-jobs, etc.
> bramblesquirrel haven’t properly made-up. squirrelflight is too anxious to talk to him, worried that she’ll make things worse or that he’ll lash out at her. she believes that bramblestar blames her for everything that’s wrong. as bramblestar plans the patrol to attack the sisters, squirrelflight hides away. he questions her about it, and she says that she doesn’t agree with what he’s doing, while bramblestar expects her to back him up no matter what.
> squirrelflight feels like he believes borders/battles are the only thing he cares about + bramblestar feels like the sisters are the only thing she cares about. he believes that he’s following the will of starclan. after that, squirrelflight apologizes to bramblestar and they say that they love each other. she supports him in front of the clan, despite the fact that she does not agree with what he’s doing.
> that night, she has a dream about kits dying in battle, and knows it was a prophetic warning. she talks to leafpool about this and they realize it was moonlight’s kits. they run ahead of the patrol, bramblesquirrel argue, they decide to attack then they don’t... it eventually results in squirrelflight’s death.
> [ moon skipped the starclan trial ]
> much like in other times, such as during the new prophecy and the last hope’s final battle, it takes a huge crisis for bramblestar to realize that he needs to treat squirrelflight fairly & apologize. he apologizes while she’s Dead, and once she wakes up he’s super worried about her. >>> “...don’t be sorry. don’t be sorry for anything. i was so worried. i love you so much. we should never have let things get so bad. i’ll never let it happen again.” even here, bramblestar is being manipulative, not fully taking the blame (”we”) and acting as though they are both equally at fault.
> from here, bramblestar is extra loving and supportive, defending her at the gathering. squirrelflight decides that she no longer wants another litter, she can be content with helping sparkpelt’s + the clan’s kits, plus she has bramblestar’s affection.
OUTRO/CONCLUSION my notes were getting less detailed by the end, but moon just reinstates some point she’s already made (as expected)
> bramblesquirrel follow the same patterns as the cycle of abuse. bramblestar consistently finds reasons to put her down and does things out of anger (even admitting to that). squirrelflight is constantly thinking about his anger and how he’ll lash out at her.
> there is a severe power imbalance in their relationship and there has been since the beginning. bramblestar does not treat her as though she’s on the same level as him.
> particularly in squirrelflight’s hope, the text presents squirrelflight as being in the right. she does what she believes is morally just, and bramblestar is shown as the antagonist. she constantly feels guilty and never even thinks of placing her wants/needs over his.
> it does not matter how many flaws squirrelflight has, it does not matter if she is annoying or entitled (she’s not) or bratty, she does not deserve to be abused. she is a victim of bramblestar’s abuse.

cloudtail’s daughter: dovewing
so i felt the compulsion to analyze more of the warrior cats bloodlines in terms of genetics but i'm not going to do that, that feels like a bad use of my time.
instead, i'm going to keep writing about the cloudtail's daughter au. namely, now that i've described the basics and gone over some world building stuff, i'm going to discuss each of the protagonists in turn. this isn't going to be about their books, but an overview of what they do across the series. i'll do book summaries later. and then i'll just write the whole fanfiction why-don't-i.
anyway, we're starting strong with dovewing, because she's the whole reason i'm writing this gd au.
section one: lovewing dovewing
so dovewing. i've talked the most about her so this will either be the shortest or the longest post in this collection. my money is on the longest. first, i want to talk about why i love dovewing so much:
i have sensory issues. dovewing has sensory issues. that's all.
oh, and i think her and tigerheart are cute.
anyway, in serious, dovewing is an underappreciated character. she gets a lot of flak for replacing hollyleaf. i hated hollyleaf when i first read the books, so i was happy for a replacement, especially in the form of a fluffy grey kitten, but even now that i'm older and have a larger appreciation for hollyleaf, i still love dovewing.
she's caring and anxious and awkward and easily overwhelmed. she's selfish, but no more than is reasonable in a child. she legitimately loves her sister but can't quite understand why ivypool is mad at her all the time. she's desperate to prove herself, and she's shattered when the external thing she's anchored herself to is ripped away from her, and she really does have sensory issues that plague her throughout the series, are aren't really resolved until she's an adult with kits. (even then, i'd personally argue she's just no longer a focus so we don't see it anymore. given that shadowsight finds her in tigerstar's den a lot, i'd almost bet that she's hiding from the outside world. that's an inference, though, that's weakly grounded.)
so yeah, dovewing appeals to me as a character, but i also understand why people aren't so universal fond of her.
section two: dovekit
dovekit is born to cloudtail and brightheart. she's fluffy. very fluffy. ivykit is also fluffy, but she becomes sleek over time. dovekit stays fluffy.
at first, the nursery thinks she might be deaf, because she's really slow to respond to auditory cues. she's really fast to open her eyes, too, which just compounds everyone's thinking. but they confirm she's not deaf, just, well, they don't know.
her father is big and fluffy and concerned for his wife, so she spends a lot of time with him. cloudtail notices she's always hiding in him, like she's being chased, and she speaks really quietly. so he's like. hey, brightheart, love of my life, i think our daughter is hearing too well.
brightheart is like damn that's a thing? cloudtail is like idk but explain this (and he points to dovekit, repeating their conversation to ivykit too far away to hear it that well.)
everyone is a little aware of firestar's general approach to throw-the-disabled-cats-in-the-healer-hole approach to disabilities, and so they decide to handle it as a family matter. ivykit, being equally young, is mostly left out of this. of course, they don't know how to compensate for hearing too much, only too little, and it eventuall becomes obvious dovekit isn't relying on sight the way she should either. but eventually, she starts to learn the names for what she's hearing, starts to recognize what's coming from in camp and what's coming from out, and that lets her attach images to words in a way she was struggling to do before.
her nose gives her minimal issues, because it's just a little less overwhelming. it's the weakest of her external senses, so she's not smelling the whole territory at once.
anyway, they also realize she's hyper aware of touch. she hates the rain, she's cautious around new textures, and she continues to sleep on top of brightheart for a very long time because mom = soft, nest = not. they don't really know what to do about that, so she just kind of learns to suck it up.
but she really doesn't like it.
anyway, ivykit is a typical kit, and dovekit just kind of sits there. staring. with big, blue (kittens eyes start blue then change colors her eyes will eventually be green) eyes. and just when you think she's zoning out, she turns to another conversation across camp and starts talking in it like they can hear her. but i mean, there have been worse kits starting their apprentices.
(leafpool thinks its a shame they have a fully trained medicine cat, or she would make, well, not a good medicine cat, but certainly better than a warrior. jayfeather does not want that. jayfeather is right.)
section three: dovepaw I, pre-beavers
dovepaw and cinderheart are a good duo. cinderheart is young, but patient and caring. and no one thinks dovepaw will be a difficult apprentice.
she excels at scenting territory, even if she is a little cautious of where the borders are, and she can seek out prey very well. she lands a couple of early catches, making ivypaw grumble, but for, like, a moon afterwards, she fails to catch a single thing.
not a ton happens in this time, to be frank. dovepaw and ivypaw squabble but there's no wedge between them yet. dovepaw wants to impress cinderheart but she can't focus. she can locate prey but she never catches it, and her crouch is always perfect but she misses the target, and she doesn't understand why. cinderheart doesn't either.
so, dovepaw knows everyone is treating her with kid gloves, and she's pretty resentful about that. she decides to sneak out at night and practice hunting. she's mostly unsuccessful, and she eventually falls down the tunnels and meets fallen leaves and is stuck there for about three days. ivypaw finds her, and helps lead her out. dovepaw is thankful to be home, but feels like even more of a failure. this is when she becomes full and proper anxiety child. (this is actually a major part of book one, distance whispers, but it's really more part of ivypaw's journey that dovepaw, because dovepaw spends most of it hurt and scared and hungry.)
then, dovepaw hears the beavers. (in the tunnels, she could kind of hear the other parts of thunderclan, but not the beavers. eventually she's like, "yo cinderheart what part of territory has the loud click clackers." cinderheart is like "wtf.") the lake has been drying up, but dovepaw was born into a drought. she doesn't know what's going on, not how bad its getting. but the beavers? yeah. she tells cinderheart about them and cinderheart is like "ohhhhhh. dovepaw is special. that explains a lot." and tells firestar about it. anxiety dovepaw vibrates by her side the entire time.
interestingly, dovepaw is a lot closer to firestar in kinship than she is in the original (because she's actually kin of his kin), but she's still not super close to him. he's pretty old, and she's decently far removed from him. he cares about her as cloudtail's daughter, not as dovepaw, if that makes sense? like any care for her beyond the care extended to any other apprentice is not because it's dovepaw, but because she's cloudtail's daughter.
section four: dovepaw II, beavers
so dovepaw knows she's dragging 9 cats on a crazy quest.
(why nine? a) i think it's neat if nine is a holy number for cats. much better than eight. b) hollyleaf needs to come so there's a narrator during this. it can't be cinderheart or hollyleaf and jayfeather & lionblaze and cinderheart share their books like ivypool and dovewing, and i don't like that because then there's a false parallel being drawn where it doesn't make sense. like, i could do that, but the problem is, the books don't line up with key points in their relationships. so. doesn't work.)
anyway, dovepaw knows this is insane and she feels desperate to prove herself. she's in front of warriors from other clans, and she can barely hunt, and her senses are going wild. cinderheart takes her aside and is like, "so dovepaw, do you want to tell them what's up? we can explain."
and dovepaw, anxiety child and desperate, is like "sounds like an excuse, so, no."
tigerheart is like, this dovepaw. she's fluffy. she's cute. dovepaw is like. this tigerheart. he's fluffy. he's cute. and they get off like gangbusters. tigerheart is gentle towards dovepaw, but not in a way that makes her feel like its because she's fragile. it's because she's dovepaw. and he wants to be gentle to her. cinderheart is like, "this might be a problem," but this is also the first time she's seen dovepaw out of her shell and talking at a reasonable volume. so she's not about to stop this. at least, not yet.
(cinderpelt may or may not be like "hey hey hey do you remember the leafpool drama? do you want to do this again?")
tigerheart is also super quiet. this isn't really a product of him, so much as their environment, but he's quiet when he's not talking and loud when he is, and dovepaw just feels safe around him. so they get close.
for the most part, the rest of beavers proceeds as in canon. there's no reason to change it, even if cinderheart wasn't strong like lionblaze, having hollyleaf there would definitely compensate. so they're fine.
they return victorious. dovepaw, by the end of the journey, is practically sleeping on top of tigerheart.
it's not really romantic yet, by the way. dovepaw started this journey sleeping on top of cinderheart. everyone in thunderclan knows that dovepaw sleeps on top of people. but tigerheart is big so he basically doesn't notice when dovepaw, who is tiny and isn't done filling out (she's full height all the apprentices are that's how cats grow) is on top of him.
cinderheart is like, "this is definitely a problem." hollyleaf and cinderpelt are facepalming.
but no one wants dovepaw to go back to being quiet, and she's already kind of shut down after the deaths taking care of the beavers, so they all try to bring dovepaw into the group, and dovepaw doesn't resist, she just likes tigerheart. she's going to miss him a lot when they get back, and that's why they keep meeting. because tigerheart doesn't treat dovepaw the way most thunderclan cats do, and she likes that.
also, after they get back, she develops a huge crush on him.
(since we don't get tigerheart perspective in this series, i'll add in here: tigerheart has complicated feelings about dovepaw. warrior cats do not establish a good age for cats to be with each other, but i'm going to say that if dovepaw and tigerheart were in the same clan, everyone would assume they were leaning towards mates. but they aren't, which makes it complicated. he likes her companionship, and he's not opposed to her as a mate, but mostly he feels deeply protective of her and cares deeply about her. kind of like how i assume brambleclaw and squirrelpaw were supposed to be portrayed, but like, done well.)
section five: dovepaw III, post-beavers (pre-tribe)
so this is probably the section that's most similar to canon, but it'd like to do the tigerheart dovepaw shit better. hopefully, by setting up tiger/dove better before, they'll be more compelling now.
anyway, ivypaw is annoyed at dovepaw, and dovepaw is like, "bruh i can't even hunt"
dovepaw feels really inadequate because now everyone thinks highly of her even though she can't do anything. she overhears someone (greystripe? brambleclaw? lionblaze?) discussing making her a warrior, and she feels even worse. (ivypaw also overhears this, but not for superpower reasons.) she feels especially bad because she knows ivypaw is holding back and now dovepaw is getting rewarded and that can't happen.
so dovepaw is falling apart, and cinderheart decides something needs to be done. piecing together everything she knows about her apprentice, she decides mabye the mountain is helpful.
section six: dovepaw IV, tribe
okay we have a travelling book. not that this is about the books, but this takes place in about one book, so i might as well point that out.
anyway, cinderheart, lionblaze, dovepaw, and ivypaw all head to the tribe. why them? lionblaze knows ivypaw is holding back. anyway, we're not covering them.
so they get there and dovepaw is like "too loud too loud can't hear shit too loud" but the tribe kind of knows how to deal with this. see, tribe kits are born with the waterfall in the background, but every now and then, a queen will kit away from the main cave, and so they have to make a temporary den for first two moons, minimum, of the kits' lives. more if it's winter. so when those kits get to the waterfall, they're overwhelmed.
and here, with nothing to hear or see but what the tribe hears and sees, dovepaw is on level footing. they let dovepaw train with the prey hunter to-bes, and she's basically starting over, but she's not that old compared to the tribe to-bes, and the strategy works well for her. ivypaw doesn't really fit in, but they decide to train her to be a cave guard.
dovepaw is succeeding but barely, and ivypaw is still excelling (from dovepaw's perspective), and all dovepaw wants is to be good enough, and then cinderheart is expecting them to work together, and no one can hear dovepaw because she talks too quiet.
but ivypaw and dovepaw do make a good team. so. two to three moons later, before winter sets in and they can't leave (or they stay over winter, not sure, need to check timeline of books), they head home.
dovepaw, senses blocked, is at 200% anxiety 100% of the time, and she's vibrating, but at least she can hunt. i mean, hunt as well as a fresh apprentice on their first patrol, but she's improving rapidly, as long as ivypaw is with her.
section seven: dovepaw V, post-tribe (final dovepaw)
so dovepaw gets better and better at hunting, and she learns to keep track of non-ivypaw cats, and they're finally made warriors.
dovewing and ivypool sit vigil and dovewing realizes that it's not that hard to not talk to ivypool. and she's not a fan of that.
section eight: dovewing I, tigerheart
at this point, dovewing is in BGCH, so this is probably the most important part of her life for this post. anyway, dovewing and tigerheart continue to meet. they are in L-O-V-E love. it's not in the books because we know it's happening and it'd get boring we had a book of them bonding we don't need another unless it's a romance novel (dovewing's silence, tigerheart's shadow).
anyway, this is when the bumblestripe drama occurs. she is, for lack of a better word, bumblestripe is courting dovewing while dovewing is planning to elope with tigerheart. but bumblestripe treats dovewing softly. with kid gloves. like she is a fragile thing he needs to protect.
this is distinctly different from tigerheart, who views her as precious and worthy of protection, someone he loves and would dedicate his life to keep safe. she's not fragile. she's strong.
so yeah bumblestripe can't figure out why he doesn't like her. dovewing tries to express it. dovewing also misses ivypool. i'm not sure who she's friends with right now. i don't have a good handle on young cats her age. poppyfrost? briarlight?
honestly, yeah, she gets on with briarlight and jayfeather. her sense of smell was too overpowering as a kit for her to like the medicine cat's den, but now that she's older and she's learned to cope, she starts to bond with briarlight. for one, it gives her a convient bumblestripe spacer, and for another, briarlight and jayfeather are legitmately kind and caring cats.
(yes, jayfeather. we'll talk about him.)
ivypool eventually begins to make it up with her, but both of them are tense about the affair.
anyway, this carries on, status quo, until the prophecy is revealed.
section nine: dovewing II, dovewing in shadowclan
so dovewing and ivypool are sent to shadowclan. tigerheart is a little upset about dovewing not telling him about the prophecy, but she was ordered not to via medicine cat, and that's a higher power he respects. so for the most part, they're okay. a little bit of squabbling as they're adults living together now for the first time, but they're alright. she eventually goes back to sleeping on top of him.
pine needles are prickly, she likes soft things, ivypool is mad at her all of the time. dovewing is good at hunting in shadowclan territory: with less birds and twigs, she can focus on the important sounds. she's not a fan of frogs and lizards but not everyone in shadowclan is.
and most of all, everyone in shadowclan treats her normally. no one cares that she's a prophecy cat. no one minds that she's slow to talk sometimes and she's kind of spacy. she's kind and she's a good hunter and a good tracker, which is a valuable skill considering their land can get pretty wet.
so yeah. dovewing and tigerheart are basically mates in all but name, and she wishes ivypool wasn't mad at her all the time, but she's happy for the first time in ages. they begin to discuss moving her to shadowclan after the battle. things are good.
section ten: dovewing III, the battle
so dovewing's job during the battle is not to listen all the way to the dark forest. that's stupid.
i'm not 100% sure what it is yet, tbh, but it definitely involves informing strategy. i'm thinking she basically opens her mind up to the terretory and jayfeather taps into her mind and communicates this to messengers and the like.
either way, she doesn't really care about it. or, well, it just gets erased from her mind because trauma. that's a better way of saying it.
section eleven: dovewing IV, dovewing's silence, bramblestar's storm, tigerheart's shadow
so this is past the scope of this au, but basically, dovewing gets "trapped" in thunderclan because of the storm and not being ready to move to shadowclan yet. she still does all of her screaming in the tunnels thing because as hard as her senses were to learn to manage, they were her's and she doesn't really know how to function without them.
i'm not sure who dies in the battle, but probably cloudtail. i'm way more attatched to brightheart. maybe they don't lose anyone. i don't know.
she leaves in tigerheart's shadow because she's got self-worth issues and forgot that shadowclan dgaf if she has prophecy powers. tigerheart also makes her feel a little unvalued by not following her. but from there, things go on as in canon.
dovewing? done.

so some folks and i on the batfam big bang discord were talking about the robins reading warrior cats and i started thinking about who their favourite characters would be so. here’s some analysis. (combining my newest and oldest obsessions?? it’s more likely than you’d think!)
i’m going with the assumption here that people tend to like characters they relate to the most-- i don’t think that’s necessarily true, but i think it’s the easiest way to figure out characters’ favourite characters, so here we go
(under the cut in case you want to skip out on this nonsense)
Dick’s favourite character is Firestar. Firestar, much like Dick, is The Original. Firestar is brave and charismatic and a good leader, all traits Dick embodies as well (and also, if we’re going with the assumption that Dick read the books as a kid, I can totally see him looking up to Firestar; & Firestar being the first arc’s protagonist works out time-wise for that). Also, Firestar left behind the culture he grew up in for a new, more dangerous world, and Dick did the same, leaving the circus to settle in Gotham and become Robin.
( @transdickgraysn also pointed out that Firestar would likely be Duke’s favourite as well, as both Duke and Firestar felt like they had no place in the family/Clan at first, and then later settled in as a respected member; also, much like Firestar, Duke wants to help others and is a hero for purely altruistic reasons.)
Jason’s favourite is Ivypool. Ivypool always felt like she played second-best to her sister, because everyone adored her sister and tended to ignore her (sound familiar...?). Ivypool’s feelings of inferiority were manipulated by a villain who trained her to kill, and even after she chose to leave that behind, her clanmates had trouble trusting her. I feel like Jason would definitely relate to her. Also, she’s badass as hell, he totally loves that. Jason would also be a pretty big Hollyleaf stan: Hollyleaf’s whole mental breakdown leading her to murder the cat who tried to kill her and attempt to kill her mother, and also her ‘death’, would be incredibly relatable to Jason, and I think he has a lot of respect for her mellowing out and choosing to live a simple life in order to redeem her past sins.
Tim’s favourite is Bluestar. Bluestar is smart, she’s a good leader, but she’s also a tragic figure who has lost so much over the course of her life. Tim has also been through his fair share of shit: I feel like he’d emphasise with Bluestar over things like the death of her mother and sister, the loss of her kits, and Tigerclaw’s betrayal. Also, I think Bluestar’s descent into depression in the latter half of arc one, culminating in her heroic sacrifice, really appealed to Tim, considering his own struggles with depression and reactions to grief and betrayal. Tim’s suicidal ideation definitely comes in this desire to sacrifice himself for some noble cause, and I feel like he reads Bluestar’s death and thinks yeah, something like that would be good. (Tim please go to therapy.)  He also probably relates to Crookedstar: agreeing to learn from/work with/obey a shadowy figure with ambiguously good intentions leads to him losing every good thing in his life, to be left only with monumentous responsibilities.
Steph’s favourite character is Squirrelflight. An upbeat, cheerful character who’s stubborn and takes no shit and invites herself on a god-given quest because what else is she gonna do? Steph is the BIGGEST Squirrelflight stan. Squirrelflight’s on-and-off-again relationship with Brambleclaw reminds her of dating Tim, and Squirrelflight also has an emotionally difficult situation regarding her children. Steph likes Squirrelflight because’s she’s loyal and she sticks to her guns no matter what and she’s not above character development but also she doesn’t betray who she is, and that’s relatable and compelling as hell.
Damian’s favourite character is Brambleclaw. Brambleclaw has an evil father and a father figure who is his father’s mortal enemy and paragon of good in comparison. Damian has an evil grandfather and a father who opposes him as a force of good. I feel like Damian relates to Brambleclaw’s struggles with his darker inner nature, and with wanting to be close to his evil family but knowing that they’re evil and don’t have his best interests at heart. Brambleclaw is looked at with hostility by his clanmates because of his father, and has to go further to prove himself, and Damian also felt that he had to prove himself against the batfamily’s hostility when he first joined them because of how he was raised. Also, Bramblestar becoming possessed in Broken Code reminds Damian of that time Talia implanted a device in his spine to control him in order to hurt his loved ones, a development that made this already relatable character hit even further home.
(update: @transdickgraysn has done it once again by pointing out that firestar (dick’s favourite character) being a father figure/mentor to brambleclaw (damian’s favourite character parallels dick being a father figure/mentor to damian...)
So, uh, yeah! That’s that. I wasn’t really going anywhere with this it was just fun to think about (and I really enjoy figuring out character parallels).

Graystripe’s Vow: 8/10
So this was split between Old Graystripe and Young Graystripe. The book was a fun adventure, until we hit the elderly twoleg’s house and the nightmarish conditions inside. But more on that later. We hit all the classics, meeting the Tribe, staying in Barley’s barn, helping out a group of loners to become more clan like... we got everything here!
Gremlin’s story wasn’t as engaging as it should’ve been. I really really didn’t care about her at all. Her friendship with Graystripe was nice, but I think I liked her more from reading the “modern” chapters. She didn’t really have a personality, aside from what we are told over and over again (very brave and stubborn.) But reading about BloodClan again was really fun. I felt like a kid again, heck I even danced in the kitchen while making a PB n J.
The modern chapters were fun. I’m really happy Graystripe got to see Stormfur, and his family. Flipclaw was also really fun. Flipclaw is best boy. Wish he’d stayed with Feather in the tribe though!! When we visit the tribe a second time it felt like Stormfur was forcing Graystripe to choose between Stormfur and his kits and Millie’s family. Again, I would love to have a Clan cat live in the tribe, but Graystripe is too old to up end his way of life and live in the mountains.
WarriorClan! Ah I love them so much! Monkeystar is just a perfect name. Actually, all the names were great. I love them so much <3 !!! Headcanon that Fireface is a descendant of Jake.
So about Petunia and her twoleg. Those chapters were really hard for me to read, since my grandparents are also having a hard time caring for themselves right now. There are a lot of elderly people in my neighborhood, but they all have young people to look after them. The manga was a nice way to wrap Petunia’s arc up, but it still left me feeling... sad. That’s just me being over empathetic.
I’m giving this book a 8 shattered moonstones out of 10 because I enjoyed it a lot, the story was fresh and I didn’t see the twists coming. It kept me interested even when I hated the characters.
Summary here, quotes are here!
< (darkness within) | (the place of no stars) > (now)
< (ravenpaw’s path arc) | (firestar’s quest) > (then)

1,12,14?
AHHH yay thanks!! :o time to listen to me be a massive warrior cats nerd-
*** GENERAL SPOILERS FOR THE WARRIOR CATS SERIES, BUT SPECIFIC SPOILERS FOR: THE SUN TRAIL (DotC), BASICALLY EVERYTHING FROM TWILIGHT (TNP) TO LONG SHADOWS (PoT), AND SQUIRRELFLIGHT’S HOPE (SUPER EDITION) ***
1. Which cat do you relate to the most?
For as long as I can remember I’ve really related to Graystripe? I think just because of how he tries to see the good in others, he never gives up hope, and he makes every effort to do what he thinks is right. Also, he’s been through some shit but he’s still doing his best and I just...... I’m love.
I also really related to Leafpool but I don’t even really have an explanation for that? Like, I think her and I have similar personalities, but I’ve also never had to choose between the love of my life and my family/duty/loyalty and then have his kids anyways a few months after we break up but because I’m forbidden to have kids giving them to my sister to raise as her own and then have them get really pissed off when they find out I’m actually their mom and then one of them’s a murderer and everything’s really awkward and- yeah you get my point
12. Worst/lamest death?
Not many deaths really stand out to me as being super lame (though I’m gonna be pissed when I actually read about Leafpool’s death bc MY GIRL DESERVED BETTER-) but the one that really pisses me off is Bright Stream in DotC.
Like.... ok. Yeah. Eagles are a very real danger. She died doing something very heroic! But... it wasn’t the eagles dropping her into their nest that killed her? Or, y’know, ripping her apart? Breaking her neck? Anything like that? SHE’S LITERALLY JUST HITCHING A RIDE WITH AN EAGLE AND SHE’S LIKE “OH SHIT THERE GOES MY VISION” AND THE WORLD GOES DARK. THE FUCK. I GET THAT THIS IS A KID’S BOOK BUT WE WATCHED TIGERSTAR GET FREAKIN EVISCERATED AND DISEMBOWLED, YOU CAN AT LEAST IMPLY THAT BRIGHT STREAM HAD KIND OF A ROUGH TIME AT THE END-
14. Favorite location?
Honestly I’m super partial to the original forest, because that’s where I started my journey into the World of Warrior Cats™ and it holds a special place in my heart because of that. To be even more specific... I’ve always really liked the OG ThunderClan camp, but I also kind of like the Sunningrocks area too?
Oh man oh MAN I almost forgot- SkyClan’s new territory in Firestar’s Quest is also a fave of mine! I remember being so freaking excited when that super edition came out, and then I loved the layout of the territory and how we kind of got to watch it all come together. So yeah, that’s up there as well.

stimmypaw reads the apprentice’s quest, a blog post
A big one, just a bunch of thoughts as I’m reading it, of course, lots of spoilers for the first book in the Warrior Cats series A Vision of Shadows. This will be covering just the first book tho, it’s all in the Read More, let’s gooooooo!!!!
Vision Of Shadows time
Lots of new cats!!! I don't remember these guys as kits or anything wrow!!! I like their names but itll take a while to get used to them
Also cant believe they printed stormcloud's dead name
Omg there's a cat named beepaw
I love these cats all of them so much im going 2 cry
All new names are perfect
I FORGOT HOW GORGEOUS THE CAT VIEW IN THE RECENT BOOKS WAS, LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT
Tumblr media
I'm glad leafpool smokes weed
I love reading from Jayfeather's point of view, his grumpiness hasn't grown on me ever but thats just me, I still enjoy it lots he's great and its fun
Firestar and Leopardstar's characterizations are On Point i love it
OOF i feel so bad when jayfeather is mean to others, poor kestrelflight, I love those two
Lovely Jayfeather moments now its time for the first chapter
I like this duo! Also I didn't think I'd ever say this but shut up squirrelflight one can have fun AND learn with their mentors
Sparkkit sounds nice she makes jingling bell noises when she walks around
Alderkit is chadphobic /j
I can see Alderkit taking deep breaths to relax its rotating in my mind its beautiful
God this first chapter feels so good and comfortable, like eating noodles and chicken nuggets. I am so so deeply in love with it, its gorgeous!
Sparkkit is so perfect too, and Graystripe remembering Firestar aaaaaa
DUSTPELT SAID WHAT? PHDHAHAHHA OH NOOOO I don't remember their relationship much, must have been fun, I love young little creature squirrelflight I MISSED HER SO BAD WOW
I started reading the second chapter and died, I think ill take a break now 2 sleep heehhee
I love them describing twoleg stuff its always so fun and alien, like watching an animal planet show about funny sea creatures.
Also I have determined sparkpaw is my favorite, might be my favorite cat ever next to hollyleaf??? I really identify with her and also she's autistic i have decided that
Alderpaw baby noooo hhhh their mentor at least is trying to show its okay, he seems very emotionally distant so far and alderheart feels very emotionally needy, actually both of them do, did I mention I love Sparkpaw??? I might be imprinting myself 2 much on her
I love how like, its clear both of them are absolutely anxious and worried about others opinions on them, which is clearly something they got from being Firestar's grandkids, deputy kids and leader kids. And bramblestar too, I recall him being quite the anxious lad ahhah. Sparkpaw will be showing confidence and being loud but the second anyone isn't approving of her or she does something "wrong" she gets small and quiet, and she ended up setting a high bar for herself by being good at hunting and fighting so I'm curious to see how that will go. Also there's nothing wrong with being guided through a crowded place to meet others Sparkpaw!!! I bet the two of them would be stuck without not knowing how to talk to others had Needlepaw not shown up. I love them, my gf is mocking me saying I'm a Sparkpaw kinnie.
Apprentices will like learn about a thing and tell everyone about it all the time and assume its always true in every situation and thats valid I love kids like that. Also in my head Needlepaw kinda looks like a porcupine. Oh boo she's fatphobic >:(
I love apprentices they are so fun and silly, just making fun of the leaders like its nothing. The way they are clearly learning and absorving everything their warriors say and do like sponges its just ***chefs kiss***
Omg shadowclan is just full of 12 year olds help
And then the old person said "it sure is hard being old!" And everyone clapped
Shout-out to pretty Riverclan apprentice #481977 I love her
Leafpool: 👁👁
Alderpaw: I knew it im cursed and awful and terrible and I will never amount to anything
I wish the cats didn't seem to be giving up on him so easily though
Ah yes the classic thunderclan move "you suck, into the medicine hole you go"
The way sparkpaw changes the things she says and how she does when it isn't the status quo around her oooooooooooooyeaaaaaaa I love 1 autistic cat
Alderpaw considering your problems lesser than other cats won't help you deal with them better bro
I love Needlepaw's excitement about Alderpaw being a medicine cat apprentice, and her sarcasm, she feels like a preppy teenager
Ahhh this is so good, I am so thirsty for family moments like this, just Alderpaw bonding with grandma, I’ll definitely want to draw this one it’s so sweet.
Oh to be young and silly.
I really am enjoying like, Alderpaw’s struggles to seeing how he fits in the clan, how he fits in himself, how he wants to be seen and what he wants to be, it’s really good. I Am Engaged(tm) With This Plot.
SPARKPAW NOOOOOOO but also Yes I want her to be shown vulnerable and weak please
POP, god watching this stuff always awful, the cats must have thought he broke her ahahah
Also, really great that they learned from Dovewing and now like leave choices and discussions about prophecies between adults
And plus Brambles seemed to take the time to explain stuff to him, seems he wont be going alone either the 1 thing is that he will be the only one knowing what the journey is really about, why though??? I didnt read Firestar's Quest or whatever why does Skyclan need to be secret??? Seems quite silly really!
YESSSS SANDSTORM GET HIS ASS FIGHT FIGHT LOVE THIS LOVE SANDSTORM
I could feel squirrelflight nearing explosion here, this was very fun, i wish they werent hiding this though!!!
The secret thing is showing to be a plot point so I am once again Very Engaged
Also, wonderful dialogue bit, someone asked Bramblestar why an Elder is going and:
Tumblr media
Lovely perfect perfect
I miss you dovewing
SQUIRRELFLIGHT LOVE YOU
Oh boy this is it
Traveling book moment
Graystripe: Soooo you're excited to go on the journey to the old territories and Skyclan?
Sandstorm: Yes! It's been ages and-
Graystripe: I'm sure the tribe will love the visit too
Sandstorm, groaning: Oh noooo I forgot about how the tribe is in the way of every journeyyyyy noooooo they're such a racist caricature, please tell me you have a plan
Graystripe: Yes don't worry about it the writers forgot about the tribe in my comic book so you can just use the excuses i did to actively avoid it
Sandstorm: Oh thank Starclan
Sparkpaw's desperation to prove herself oof, her anxiety with understanding the prophecy, oh boy, and Alderpaw feeling too overwhelmed by the questions and not managing to talk!!!! I am so glad they are both autistic
Hoping "Being Leader" wont mean theyre putting nonsense responsibility on the apprentice again
Ah good Sandstorm is on the lead again, as she should, she should have been leader she would have been great
I can't believe Alderpaw thinks I look stupid and diseased :( /j
Everything about this twoleg scene was scandalous I loved it, Sparkpaw just toppled over a trash bag and they are eating from it, iconic, also did those twolegs throw out a whole turkey? Damn
Its not that Sparkpaw is freakishly good at hunting she is very hungry and constantly on the watch for things to eat
BRO Ive never been in a road where the drivers are this wild, throwing bottles out of the car????? Ive seen Fruit being thrown like once or twice, what the fuck!!! I'm glad they are going to wait until the morning to continue
Okay I was not expecting Needlepaw to show up this girl is chaotic I love her
ACTUALLY YEAH WHY DIDNT THEY TELL THE OTHER CLANS ABOUT THIS SINCE THE PROPHECY IS ABOUT ALL THE CLANS???
Needlepaw is like Rono from Bambi 2 if he wasnt a mean bully and thats very epic
Very curious character though, how come her mentor isnt teaching her the warrior code properly? Is that an issue with all apprentices?? Is the clan overwhelmed by 12 year olds and they won?
Having lots of fun trying to play the game "what animal are they describing this time" the erins made here, im glad they're in a farm. Worried about Sandstorm though :c
Fuck im worried about sandstorm a lot, her wound hurt on Me
Yeah water is good youre right sandstorm
Aw man I hope she's okay let her at least survive to meet skyclan please
NOOOOOOOO SANDSTORMA A AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sandtteooonrjrbbbmmnnnnnnnnnn
I am so sad
Alderpaw denying it, Starclan shining upon their vigil, everything crushed me i cried
Tumblr media
Alderpaw considers Nihilism
Haven't seen a cat thank starclan for prey in a while its
Oh look they time skipped a journey! They don't tend to do that thats nice
I'm so excited to be meeting The Skyclan that everyone in the fandom knows now
So far they seem kinda mean but thats most clans at first glance really
Okay somethings up
I uh have heard of Darktail pretty sure he's a bad guy so yeah something really bad happened to Skyclan
Am worried
Darktail sounds like an evil himbo* i may be enjoying him actually
*himbos are usually nice by default so he's just evil and stupid and strong
Does needletail know these cats already?????
Ah
Shit
Oh okay fuck
I've been quietly reading the rest because I am just concerned and I want them to be okay as quickly as possible
Waterfalls are a classic nice
Oh boy time for our unlikely duo of Alderpaw and Needlepaw to get out of a Mess!
I did not expect this to end up with the two of them journeying into parenthood, but I'm happy it did
Well actually I'm very unhappy theyre so lost and there's no sign of Skyclan I am very worried for everyone involved Sparkpaw must be feeling awful!
Twigkit is a great name
Yeah this ended terribly
Overall! Frigging loved it this book was GOOD and a great start for the series I am very excited to read the rest, SO WORRIED ABOUT SKYCLAN THO AAAA the characterizations were great the characters were great the pacing was fun and I didn't get bored once!
I think o only wish I had read this sooner really so I could look up others thoughts without getting heavily spoiled about the last books, I can watch a few videos already though thats a start ahhaha. But yeah it was great and it felt very good to read, haven't swallowed up a book so quickly in a very long time!!! Very happy I finally got my hands on this 💕💖💕💖💕💖 cant wait 2 start the next one
If you read all this, hope you had fun hahaha, ill be making more of these cus theyre fun and I like talking about warrior cats thats just my thing
Til next time

My favorite book is Firestar's quest. I really liked the characters and it gave us (What I think.) one of the best female leaders. It felt like a little breath of fresh air for me, and has a little place in my cold dead heart. I think Firestar is super cool and I love his daughters. I hate the way the books treat them though. I also don't like Bluestar, she reminds me too much of a toxic mother- to both Firestar and the three kids she abandoned.
I never read Firestars Quest past like, chapter five, but I’ve heard overwhelmingly positive reviews and I’m so glad it’s a book that makes you happy!!! :D I’m assuming you’re talking about Leafstar when mentioning female leaders, to which I 100000% agree!!!!!! I know she’s old at this point but the erins can pry Leafstar from my cold dead hands :) but no, I can see where you’re coming from with bluestar. I don’t have much of an opinion on her, but like,,,,I absolutely do not agree with 70% of her actions lmao
Here’s an opinion for you!! : Ill start this with a warning: I haven’t read power of three since 2013. HOWEVER. I remember not really caring about hollyleaf? I’m sure if I reread the books I would catch on to more and maybe like her but...I dunno. I know she’s the WC fandom’s sweetheart and I’m not saying she’s a bad character just..my memories of reading about her are fuzzy and I never really connected with her character :P

INTO THE WILD - “A stranger in a strange land.”
Tumblr media
I’ve been meaning to start transcribing these for a while now. If you don’t already know, Vicky Holmes, the former editor of the Warriors series, has been doing short extract readings on Facebook since the start of the UK lockdown back in March! There’s some really cool anecdotes hidden within some of these videos, so I thought I’d begin penning them down for posterity and easy reference.
I won’t be transcribing filler, hedging and false starts but I’m including some amount of preamble just to be comprehensive.
#1 Into the Wild | #2 Forest of Secrets | #3 The Darkest Hour | #4 Code of the Clans | #5 Firestars’ Quest | #6 Twilight | #7 Long Shadows | #8 Leafpool’s Wish
Hello! Welcome to my house. I’d very much like to be broadcasting this from my beautiful study, with all my books in the background, but my house is 500 years old and the walls are very thick, so I only have Internet in one room - my sitting room - so this is it! And yes, that is a real tomahawk on the mantlepiece.
I’m going to start today with Into the Wild, the very first Warriors book. Kate Cary and I worked on this... 18, 19 years ago? Back in 2001. It was published on the 1st of July, 2003. Before many of you will have even been born, I suspect, which makes me feel incredibly old.
The scene I’m going to read is when Rusty, or Sammy as he was in German, first goes into the forest and encounters a Clan cat. He’s heard about the forest, he’s heard gossip about the Clan cats eating the bones of domestic cats and being completely wild and scary, and he’s very curious and he’s very brave, and these are really important qualities in his character.
Rusty stood very still and looked around. He could see the white tip of a red bushy tail trailing through a clump of tall ferns up ahead. He smelled a strong, strange scent, definitely a meat-eater, but neither cat nor dog. Distracted, Rusty forgot about the mouse and watched the red tail curiously. He wanted a better look.
All of Rusty’s senses strained ahead as he prowled forward. Then he detected another noise. It came from behind, but sounded muted and distant. He swiveled his ears backward to hear it better. Pawsteps? he wondered, but he kept his eyes fixed on the strange red fur up ahead, and continued to creep onward. It was only when the faint rustling behind him became a loud and fast-approaching leaf-crackle that Rusty realized he was in danger.
The creature hit him like an explosion and Rusty was thrown sideways into a clump of nettles. Twisting and yowling, he tried to throw off the attacker that had fastened itself to his back. It was gripping him with incredibly sharp claws. Rusty could feel spiked teeth pricking at his neck. He writhed and squirmed from whisker to tail, but he couldn’t free himself. For a second he felt helpless; then he froze. Thinking fast, he flipped over onto his back. He knew instinctively how dangerous it was to expose his soft belly, but it was his only chance.
He was lucky—the ploy seemed to work. He heard a “hhuuffff” beneath him as the breath was knocked out of his attacker. Thrashing fiercely, Rusty managed to wriggle free. Without looking back he sprinted toward his home.
Behind him, a rush of pawsteps told Rusty his attacker was giving chase. Even though the pain from his scratches stung beneath his fur, Rusty decided he would rather turn and fight than let himself be jumped on again.
He skidded to a stop, spun around, and faced his pursuer.
It was another kitten, with a thick coat of shaggy gray fur, strong legs, and a broad face. In a heartbeat, Rusty smelled that it was a tom, and sensed the power in the sturdy shoulders underneath the soft coat. Then the kitten crashed into Rusty at full pelt. Taken by surprise by Rusty’s turnabout, it fell back into a dazed heap.
The impact knocked the breath out of Rusty, and he staggered. He quickly found his footing and arched his back, puffing out his orange fur, ready to spring onto the other kitten. But his attacker simply sat up and began to lick a forepaw, all signs of aggression gone.
Rusty felt strangely disappointed. Every part of him was tense, ready for battle.
“Hi there, kittypet!” meowed the gray tom cheerily. “You put up quite a fight for a tame kitty!”
So this basically sets the theme for the introduction to the Clan, which is “a stranger in a strange land”. The Clans are very strange to us, we needed to introduce them to the readers, and the best way to introduce a completely new world is through the eyes of someone who is a stranger to that world themselves. For example, a spaceman landing on a planet, he would describe everything he sees, what he feels, the emotions, his experiences... Or even something like going to a new school. It’s really by far the best way to immerse your narrator into his surroundings and really engage with the narrator, so that we learn at the same time as they do.
[The broadcast is cut off due to Internet issues, then resumes]
I’m very sorry about that. The Internet went down. This might be a problem, I might have to find somewhere else because I have very weak Internet out here in the sticks.
Anyway, I was talking about how Rusty is the “stranger in the strange land”. This idea that the best way to translate a brand new experience is by creating a protagonist, a central character, who is new to that experience.
So if you are homeschooling and would like an idea for creative writing today, my suggestion would be a story of a stranger in a strange land. So that could be a new kid at school, maybe a domestic pet, like a hamster having to live in the wild. Anywhere where your main character is thrown into a very new and strange environment.
Also, I’d like to suggest you look at the books you’re reading at the moment and see which of those features people immersing in new experiences. Tamburlaine by Christopher Marlowe is a 16th century play which defines “stranger in a strange land”, as does The Jew of Malta. There’s examples throughout history, throughout literature in which we follow the adventures of someone who is new to the things around them.
Looking back at Into the Wild, now, it’s very interesting because of course it was the first book that Kate and I worked on together, and the writing feels very naive to me. We hadn’t quite found our footing. If I worked on the book again, if I was to edit it again, I think I would make it sound very different. I think we hadn’t found our Erin Hunter ‘voice’ at this stage. The writing lacks the integrity, I think, the naturalness of Erin Hunter as the voice developed later on.
But it’s charming to go back, it’s charming to remember that this was one of the first projects I ever edited or created, and it was very much a “flying under the radar” project. It was just one book about cats for HarperCollins, and I was a very inexperienced editor. It was just an opportunity, really, to give me a bit of practice. Nobody, least of all me, dreamt of where it’d end up, and that I would spend most of my career writing about cats.

Note
random but UUUH whered u get that cool pic of all the warriors books, where u kinda can cross of which ones u have? because this is like super handy hwhdjend thank for taking thr time reading this please have a nice day
Here you go! It’s built in part from one I found online that was out of date and separated the novellas and their collected editions into different slots which annoyed me.
Note: this is not in reading or chronological order. You definitely have to read the SkyClan super edition books and comics before you read the aVoS Arc, you definitely shouldn’t read some of the novellas before the books that they spoil, and you definitely shouldn’t read Yellowfang’s Secret cause it sucks.
Tumblr media
Recommended reading order:Warriors- The Prophecies Begin Book 1: Into the Wild Book 2: Fire and Ice Book 3: Forest of Secrets Book 4: The Rising Storm Book 5: A Dangerous Path Book 6: The Darkest Hour Super Edition: Firestar’s Quest Manga: Ravenpaw’s Path (Three books) Super Edition: SkyClan’s Destiny Warriors- The New Prophecy Book 1: Midnight Book 2: Moonrise Book 3: Dawn Manga: Tigerstar and Sasha (Three books) Book 4: Starlight Book 5: Twilight Book 6: Sunset Manga: Winds of Change Warriors- The Power of Three Book 1: The Sight Manga: Graystripe’s Adventure (Three books) Book 2: The Dark River Book 3: Outcast Book 4: Eclipse Book 5: Long Shadows (NOTE: a character named Brightspirit and her parents appear in this book who seem like they are going to be very important. They are actually a one-time tribute to a girl who was a big Warriors fan and her family who died in a tornado in 2008. Its weird and confusing if you don’t know that.) Book 6: Sunrise Novella: Leafpool’s Wish Manga: SkyClan and the Stranger (Three books)
Ok so next are a bunch of prequels that you could read at any point, in any order, but ideally you should read them AFTER The Prophecies Begin book 6 and the SE’s you should read BEFORE the Omen of the Stars book 1 Novella: Mapleshade’s Vengeance Novella: Goosefeather’s Curse SE: Bluestar’s Prophecy SE: Tallstar’s Revenge SE: Crookedstar’s Promise SE: Yellowfang’s Secret (This one really sucks. I don’t recommend reading it at all, way too many major contradictions with the first book)Novella: Cloudstar’s JourneyNovella: Pinestar’s ChoiceNovella: Spottedleaf’s HeartNovella: Redtail’s DebtManga: The Rise of ScourgeNovella: Tigerclaw’s FuryManga: A Shadow In RiverClan
Warriors- Omen of the Stars Book 1: The Fourth Apprentice Novella: Mistystar’s Omen Book 2: Fading Echoes Book 3: Night Whispers Book 4: Sign of the Moon Book 5: The Forgotten Warrior Novella: Hollyleaf’s Story Book 6: The Last Hope
Warriors- Dawn of the Clans (note: this fifth arc is actually a prequel. You could read it now or after everything else) Book 1: The Sun Trail Book 2: Thunder Rising Book 3: The First Battle Book 4: The Blazing Star Book 5: A Forest Divided Book 6: Path of Stars SE: Moth Flight’s Vision Novella: Thunderstar’s Echo Novella: Shadowstar’s Life (back to the main timeline) Novella: Ravenpaw’s Farewell Novella: Dovewing’s Silence Novella: Mothwing’s SecretSE: Crowfeather’s Trial (So, this was written after the next arc and the epilogue comic contains a few spoilers for A Vision of Shadows, but I think it’s kind of necessary to read right after Dovewing’s Silence. The Last Hope suggests Breezepelt finally GETS IT, Dovewing’s Silence suggests he doesn’t, and then if you don’t read this you’ll wonder why he’s not a major villain for the next arc) SE: Bramblestar’s Storm
Warriors- A Vision of Shadows Book 1: The Apprentice’s Quest Book 2: Thunder and Shadow SE: Hawkwing’s Journey Book 3: Shattered Sky Book 4: Darkest Night Book 5: River of Fire SE: Tigerheart’s Shadow Novella: Tawnypelt’s Clan Book 6: The Raging Storm SE: Squirrelflight’s Hope Novella: Tree’s RootsNovella: Pebbleshine’s Kits
Warriors- The Broken Code Book 1: Lost Stars Book 2: The Silent Thaw Book 3: Veil of ShadowsBook 4: Darkness WithinSE: Graystripes VowNovella: Daisy’s Kin Novella: Spotfur’s Rebellion (? Haven’t read it yet. Could be during book 3 or 4)Book 5: The Place of No StarsBook 6: A Light In The MistWarriors- A Starless ClanBook 1: River
Field Guides (probably don’t read these until you’re done with everything else. Ultimate Guide contains spoilers through Dawn of the Clans) 1- Secrets of the Clans 2- Cats of the Clans 3- Code of the Clans 4- Battles of the Clans 1&3: Enter the Clans (This is just a book that combines Secrets of the Clans and Code of the Clans) X: The Warriors Guide (This is just bits and pieces of the other 4 guides) 5: The Ultimate Warriors Guide (The description of what happened to Ashfur is so wrong you should just not even read it.)
Weird online content that has plot holes and doesn’t fit the story at all and basically you just should only read if you accept they’re dumb crap written for children: -The Elder’s Concern (you could be mistaken for believing this is AU fanfiction of the end of book 1. It’s not, its just a mess.) -The Sun Trail: Bright Stream alternate chapter -A Forest Divided: Tall Shadow alternate chapter -Spottedleaf’s Honest Answer -After Sunset: “The Right Choice?” and “We Need To Talk” (actually I really love these) -Brightspirit’s Mercy play- The Clans Decide short story -The first five books in both DotC and AVoS (and presumably TBC) have a bonus chapter. Not all published editions contain the bonus chapter! I had to find the AVoS ones online
Woo! I think I got em all. Sometimes books will have minor to major mistakes that will be really confusing when you come across them. Thankfully the warriors wiki has mostly accurate sections on every book’s page for “Mistakes” because this is a bunch of dumb rushed kids books written by a team of authors with no series bible.
EDIT: Updating this as more books come out. Not sure yet where Blackfoot’s Reckoning, Leopardstar’s Honor, or Winds of Change are gonna go

WC design/headcannon/ect masterlist- Part B
another chunk of all the headcanos/AU’s/design notes/warrior names for kits and leaders never given a canon one/ect for all the wario cats!
this one is for all the B named cats!
info under the cut
Badgerfang
Tumblr media
badgerfang i think a lot of us have a big ol soft spot for, but ought i really care him and his family i think it needs more than jusT the badgerfang death like for real
one of the biggest reasons i wanna learn to animate is because i wanna make a badgerfang and flintfang amv! it would be sdkg more about flintfang because i think he’s a neat character who has a lot of potential for development
like mAN you ever stop and think about not only was flintfang sad over badgerfangs death because it was sad, bUT also because badgerfang was his sisters kit AND to the thought of blackstar is flintfangs brother. flintfang had to deal with playing a hand in badgerfangs death then watch his brother loyally follow brokenstar, then tigerstar 🥺
Baypaw
Tumblr media
baypaw was the first of his lil chunk of family i design, i didnt have a sorrelstripe design made yet so i ultimately decided to base his design on his grandpa Lionblaze. smaller fluffy lionblaze.
I know we should be coming up to baypaw getting their warrior name soon
i think a name like Baysong or Baygale
Beech Tail
Tumblr media
the only thing i have  to say is dgjksh when i designed the ‘beech’ prefix designs it was late and i totally went ‘beech... the beach’ and noT beech the tree sdjkgh. so i designed beech tail like that of a penguin sdjkgh
Beechfur
Tumblr media
beechfur , riverclan warrior under mistystar’s leadership
i imagine beechfur is be EXTREMely accident prone, from the first instant of getting sick and healed by leafpool all the way up till the end. He is in and out of the medicine cats den constantly. and through this formed a big ol crush on the pretty medicine cat apprentice Willowshine who has had to full on decline his feelings. he is not the only one who has had this treatment, many a riverclan cats have found themself charmed by willowshine
Beechpaw
Tumblr media
Beechpaw, a apprentice of ancient skyclan who were forced to leave the forest territory.  i imagine beechpaw was of the few cats who did everything he could to keep the others in good spirit while they tried to find their home, which often came to the annoyance of all his distraught clanmates. he never stopped doing all he could to put a smile on their face until he died.
he was the last apprentice cloudstar named a warrior and only lived a few moons after becoming one.
warrior names i like for him are like Beechshed or Beechshine
Beenose
Tumblr media
slight update to my beenose design because i want her to fit my newer darktail group clown aesthetic
another design note is her and her siblings all are themed after a diff color of the rainbow, beenose is yellow. their mom snowbird has a pale rainbow pattern and each other her kits is a diff color of the rainbow
Beetlewhisker
Tumblr media
Beetlewhisker is another one of my quiet favorites i have, and it is because of the error of him being alive for SO many books after he died.
like !!! bitch had a HUGE major death and went on to live for a long time aND be listed as a cats mentor (which i think that has been changed now)
i love the idea of in a way beetlewhisker WAS with the clans that long after his death. that due to his death was in a way locked in the dark forest, his soul stuck there. but because of the ways of the dark forest cat’s he was chased out, and unable to enter starclan having died in the dark forest, now cursed to live in limbo.
He walks to the grounds of riverclan watching over his clanmates while they rest hoping that no one else is to be preyed upon by the dark forest like he was ever again.
theres ghost stories of riverclan cats seeing the shape of a cat shining brightly when hit by moonlight. a peaceful spirit of the past who protects them.
and in design 100% his design was made to look like that of a smeleton bones lol
Bellaleaf
Tumblr media
the erin team will have to pry bellaleaf and firestar being siblings from my cold dead hands!!
you can’t say they look basically exactly alike and their not related i wont take it sdjkg. i DIE for the idea oh whore jake managing to have so many kids that get into the clans. like the over saturation of jake dna through the clans ruining them absolutely kills me sdjkg
i also imagine ravenpaw having like deja vu of firestar when he looks at bella, cats who knew firestar look at her and can’t help feel she reminds them of someone.
Berryheart
Tumblr media
another one of the designfor snowbirds kits, berryheart is the red themed sibling.
she also got a slight design change to be more clowny to fit her time in darktail’s group
Berrynose
Tumblr media
i just love berrynose, i think hes very terrible and i love him a lot
i think the books are cowards and i think berrystar woulda been the fUNniest outcome oR like
imagine the powermove if berrynose lived and squirrelflight fucking made berrynose her deputy likE
also berrynose is a lil gay brat, he has a thick country accent and everyone find him weirdly charming. many hate him but cant help but find him alluring.
he actually is a very good warrior, he stays on top of his task and brings in the prey. his biggest problem is his ego and his need to get in others faces all the time
i love when he’s paired with lionblaze because their stupid rivarly is so good i really wish it was more plot important and lasted longer i LIVE for best friend rivals lion and berry
buT i also love him with jayfeather for the simple dynamic of the one cat who would probably hate him more than anyone else but oops he’s in love to
or him and breezepelt because they could be lil shitheads togeather
Birchface
Tumblr media
the biggest thing i can say about birchface is 100% birchface watched over mapleshade’s kits, doesnt let appledusk or his own family hurt them. He treats them like his own.
in AU’s where birchface lives i defiantly can see him having a HUGE crush on mapleshade and being much like thrushpelt was to bluefur. being as a surrogate dad for her kits and keeping the secret.
in my main AU with mapleshade dieing and getting a redemption its mostly the same except they become a sweet happy family together in starclan.
he’s a big goofy dad type and his father had hoped he would become leader one day, but worried that he was too lax with the code and not as driven to fight as others and began to think he would have to rely on frecklewish instead. then they both died and he ended up turning to his youngest son pinefur
Blade
Tumblr media
this is just a one time ghost cat buT  i like the design i made for her.
im all here for dark forest cats having this black oozing mark from where they died, starclan gets being covered in stardust and maybe having from pretty plats or glow or other representative stuff on their death. but ghost cats are loUD with their mark of death. its a nagging weight they carry around based on their inability to move on to their respective afterlives. For blade its giant bright red tire marks that slowly circle around her body.
Blazefire
Tumblr media
just a lil boy
i imagine he kinda constantly has crushes on cats from other clans which while some might tell him to hush when he shares his thoughts on the pretty cat from riverclan he gets some loving teasing from dovewing and antfur
Blazefire is also miss nearly all of his tail
Blizzardstar and Blizzardwing
Tumblr media
not much here but to say 100% i designed blizzardwing in mind of being that of a grandson or great grandson to blizzardstar
Blossomfall
Tumblr media
shrug idk a lot to say about her beyond, i know she’s a asshole character but i remember liking her, i think she’s mean but its kinda fun in a way
i think i also just have this soft spot for millies kits because their millie’s
also i just like my blossomfall design i think she’s v fun
Blossomkit
Tumblr media
another shadowclan kit who died under brokenstar’s ruling.
i think as sad as it is, i can imagine blossomkit to be badgerfang’s sister, just another sad thing to think about for fernshade’s litter. the potential idea of all her kit’s dying because of brokenstar
a warrior name for her that would been cute woulda been like Blossomglaze or blossomsprout
Bluebellkit
Tumblr media
bluebellkit sure disappeared from the books. she’s one of those kits that like, she already had a mouth full of a name and i wish i coulda seen what they woulda named her as a warrior
but she’s another one of snowbird’s rainbow themed kids, her ofc being the blue one.
i think a cute warrior name for her could been Bluebellwhistle or bluebellfoot
Blouder
Tumblr media
i lobe boulder i think he is very under appreciated!!
i think it be very fun to get a novella or something in this POV,,
he’s just hangin out back there yknow,,,
Bouncefire
(bit of an art change from here as i took a break between these two and switched programs)
Tumblr media
idk a lot about actual bouncefire, i think the only books with any real characterization in it was ones i havent read
buT id really like to imagine growing up he saw his mentor patchfoot as a father figure and was ultimately the reason patchfoot and his mom got together. and bouncefire being absolutely ecstatic about it. thinking patchfoot is the coolest guy
bouncefire gets along good with his half siblings
gay cat and wanna be emo but just is kinda angy
Brackenfur
Tumblr media
my biggest brackenfur AU is my medicat brackenfur which i have info of here
https://goatpaste.tumblr.com/post/631020627780911104/au-where-insteed-of-fireheart-picking-up
and
https://goatpaste.tumblr.com/post/632972589046890496/mmm-writing-out-like-big-plot-point-changes-in-my
the other thing vaguely mention in these but would probably be more prominent in his og story
but brackenfur is quietly the biggest mess in the family. Being on pare with confidence and energy as cinderpelt when they were young, after her accident somethin changed for him. he loved his sister but is a big distant. but its hardly noticeable between the two as they worked very separate jobs in the clan
then his other sister, brightpaw has her accident and brackenfur begins to question something
but when he his the last to leave in the thunderclan group to their new home he stops and looks back at his mother frostfur who is old and frail look, though she wasnt young the damage of the forest hit her hard.
this when brackenfur decides starclan has it out for his family, especially the mollies. they were cursed he was sure.
moons later he is expecting his kits with sorreltail, letting his mind rest on the idea, the crazy notion that some greater force wanted the she-cats in his family dead.
then the day his kits arrive cinderpelt dies to the badgers. he pushes down these feelings down again it was the time. But he couldn’t help but think that, if leafpool was there, if starclan had given them a sign of the badgers, anything. maybe cinderpelt might have lived. but he pushes it back down and tells himself it was a warriors death
and then his daughter, cinderpaw is struck by the tree and the stirring in his mind grows stronger. why has starclan done this to his family
then honeyfern gets bit by the snake. how could starclan be so cruel, their always so young.
then his sweet sorreltail fought strongly for her two young daughters future
and on his own, forced to watch seedpaw drown and lilypaw be haunted by what happened.
the women in brackenfurs family is cursed and he bears the burden of relizing it, of living and watching each of them suffer until the end
to the ones that lived and are happy still, with no burdens in their lives he watches happily making sure NOTHING bad comes their way. he would fight starclan themselves to make sure his family is safe and happy
Breezepelt
Tumblr media
in design Breezepelt has a p average length tail. which for him is a huge disappointment. His father crowfeather has a long slender windclan tail, a trait that is held to high standards in his family. a trait passed all the way down from windstar herself who had the longest and most beautifully windy tail.
Breezepelt has a angry spot about this because he feels lacking and especially disconnected to his father. BUT double this with jayfeather having only half windclan blood has a tail even longer than crowfeathers
i also would NOT put breezepelt with heathertail, i dont see any reason for it. like first off this bitch gay, id love for him to have a boyfriend and it think it should be berrynose because one, their both terrible i think it be funny and i also think its funny to ship berrynose with lionblaze or jayfeather so im like, whats another brother (to be clear not shipped all together, this is separately) and two, the idea heathertail and poppyfrost lesbian could exist
then the big BIg thing is, i would take breezepelts character and gut what happened in crowfeathers trial out of both him and crowfeather
i talk about it a bit here, but i think ill re talk about it in full when i get to crowfeather https://goatpaste.tumblr.com/post/190544981670/breezepelt
Briarlight
Tumblr media
miss briarlight i love you!!
very sweetgirl
i based her design off sakuras and bleed heart doves. idk what possessed me but when i went to design her i knEW she was gonna be pink she needed to be she deserved it
briarlight buff as shit in her forlegs she loves trying to rope leafpool and jayfeather into lil strength contest she always wins (sometimes she will let leafpool win on days she needs it)
her and jayfeather are wlw/mlm best friends. jayfeather calls her pidge which started as a mean nickname that she simply loved and embraced fully
also in my AU with medicat lionblaze i can very much see briarlight and lionblaze being very sweet friends. like big strong lionblaze who is actually docile and compassionate about his work and briarlight loud and rooting him on
Brick
Tumblr media
swear to god until i got back into warrior cats this year i had always thought brick was a lady and her and bone were suppous to be scourges like adoptive bad parents jkdg
anyways im still with that, she/her agender brick who adopts their terrible son scourge and is in a monogamous partnership with bone’s. strictly business defiantly not married, they just have a son together.
Brindlewing
Tumblr media
idk a ton about her, but from her wiki it dsjkgh doesnt look like theirs  alot
but i’d like to imagine she’s a very anxious girl and struggles in crowds especially around cat she doesn't know. she feels more comfortable when one of her sisters is with her or her grandmother nightcloud. Nightcloud has always been a source of self confidence for her and they love each very much.
Brindlewing also inherited crowfeather’s family long tail that skipped breezepelt. Brindlewing holds the tail in her mouth as a means of helping her anxiety.
Bristlefrost
Tumblr media
a biG design overhaul for my bristlefrost design, i really didnt like the old design i made her. wanted her to be a lil darker colored and in general have a cuter design
i gave her diff color eyes to mark her double agent status one eye green like her fathers and the other sharing the same blue i use for ashfur’s eye color
i kept her with the one white paw which i give to any descendent of jake, just because canonically she is ivy and ferns kid.
but in my rewrite their not togeather. Fernsong was a kittypet or a loner who had lost their mate and home and was found by ivypool caring for his three kittens alone. this is more fernsong headcanon, but bristlefrost is there
bristle and all the kits love ivypool they look up to her big time and all wished she was their mentor when they became apprentices.
bristlefrost often confides in her father when feeling guilty or unsure of herself and he is always there for her
Bristlekit
Tumblr media
half brother to tallstar
i imagine woolytail’s family seems to have a high mortality rate with their kids with only one maybe two usually making it to adulthood. bristlekit would die before becoming an apprentice and spent time in starclan with finchkit and later rabbitkit waiting for wrenflight and tallstar.
if bristlekit made it to being a warrior id like to think he was named Bristlefeather or Bristlefoot
Brook where small fish swim
Tumblr media
teeny update to my brook design to give her small white fish dots matching her brothers spots
her general design is mean to be loosely based on a mountain lion.
she got strong powerful mountain climbing body
i also wish her romance was better developed and wasnt like based in a lot of white savior romance plots given to native and native coded characters
in general the tribe really shoulda just been written better
Brownpaw
Tumblr media
brownpaw, brother to littlecloud killed mosspaw as a kit on accident and was apprenticed for it by brokenstar
i imagine him and his brother wetfoot killing mosspaw effect them both deeply. for wetfoot it shook him to the core and made his doubt his own claws
for brownpaw it set him down the path of destruction. brokenstar rewarding him for what happened with mosspaw was the biggest enabler
brownpaw would go on to be a blood thirsty apprentice who would throw his young life away under brokenstars order of attack.
had he been made a warrior i think brokenstar woulda named him Brownmoss claiming he had earned the name when he took it from mosspaw.
Bug
Tumblr media
design for bug because i think the book she was in didnt exist when i originally started drawing every warrior cat
love her!
bumblestripe
Tumblr media
bumblestripe’s character makes me sad
im SUCH a millie stan and for one of her kids to be disabled then treated like garbage to the end of her life and written super ablest and then her other two kids are total shit heads? makes me sad
i wish at lEAST millie and graystripe had a second little, maybe just one total sweetheart
and its been forever since i read the books. but i remember bumblestripe being a real nobody characters just very generic personality until romance plot for dovewing came into play. and now he super sucks!
i wish he coulda just been a good character who loved dovewing, is sad and kinda jealous of her feelings for tigerheart but in the end respects her decisions and even admires her courage to follow her heart even if it led her over the borders.
Buster/Rippletail
Tumblr media
slight buster redesign to fit more in the circus clown look from when he was in the kin
also design note, he’s got an orange themed design to go along with his rainbow themed siblings
Buzzardkit
Tumblr media
windclan kit who showed up once in the sight crying and being comforted by a queen
mm i think some good warrior names for them woulda been like
buzzardface, Buzzardshriek or buzzardwhistle
