Okay fuck it, that funny wings of fire crossover au I have been working on is finally getting a fucking lore dump more or less. The brainrot worms have me at gunpoint so time to finally do some explaining!

Now with this crossover I have done my damnedest to fit this into the Wings Of Fire world without changing much or intruding too much on cannon, so you may ask, how the fuck am I going to have the war plots, the countries and all that? Simple answer - Magic continent.

Let me explain:

Taking inspiration from HTTYD's dragon island and it's mystery within the first film, land of the lost, Skull Island and things of the like along with a sprinkle of Bermuda Triangle conspiracies, I figured the best way to go about this would be a magic continent isolated from the other two, so this way it still can have certain things that are crucial to a lot of the dsmp plot since this keeps sorta to cannon with some bits like lives and all that. Along with that this ends up giving XD a proper godlike role and adding to Dream's consequential god complex.

XD within this au is an animus, having the ability to enchant whatever to do just about whatever, having initially been the first surfacing of a animus amongst the Rainwing tribe. Now the era XD comes from is a bit before Darkstalker, so the Rainwings were actually feared for the most part and well once word gets around about the massacre at the seawing royal family XD is quick to flee for their own sake before the Queen can even learn of their power, though this whole situation also sparks something within them, a curiosity in how dragons react to things though we'll get back to that.

XD ends up on a relatively small island far off the coast of the old Nightwing Kingdom and this is where it begins. Now having been experimenting with their powers here and there, they are confident in their abilities and thus make the choice of "If dragons won't let me into their kingdoms, I'll make my own". So they do just that, taking this tiny island and enchanting it to be something so much more, an isolated bubble of a world, but a project of this magnitude takes quite the toll on one's soul. They have their kingdom but no subjects. What's the fun in that? So starts a series of more enchantments to bring dragons to this land, a few make it yet in the end XD isn't pleased with them, the dragons not living up to the standards of show that they wanted to see. Out of this initial test run of a group that was maybe 15 or so dragons XD took aside several corpses- a Silkwing, a Hivewing, a Icewing, a Sandwing and finally a Rainwing. Now it's known that an animus can't exactly bring dragons back from the dead though who's to say they can't make something entirely new?

Now this little project is what results in Dream, the enchanted abomination of a dragon and even calling him that is a stretch. Effectively to ensure things got somewhat interesting XD decided to make their own player in this inevitable game, this being Dream. But I'll elaborate on him another day.

That aside, effectively the land that all this occurs in is an isolated continent that is technically in it's own little pocket dimension between Pantala and Pyrrhia- the barrier cleverly disguised as a seeming 'reef' of jagged seastacks much like Helheim's Gate from HTTYD. Dragons can go through the barrier but cannot leave it once inside, upon crossing the threshold they change as well- granted with 3 'lives' and if they hold any animus magic it's nulled though preexisting enchantments or enchanted items will remain, along with this firescales are also affected though they simply become very warm to the touch in place of their usual scorching scales.

This entire land has been sculpted and shaped as well as enchanted to be the perfect stage for XD to study what they consider mortals. And oh a show they do get in the end.

Now if you're still here it's time for some more general explaining.

·Due to the nature of this land there are background civilians, residents etc for the countries as they develop. There being a high number of refugee leafwings and silkwings along with some hivewings due to the issues of the tree wars on Pantala.

·The Death and Revival books do exist, I'm still working on a loop hole for the Revival book but thus far due to the mass amount of enchantments on the continent and XD effectively making themselves god of it the usual rules of animus magic don't apply to them anymore but they did at the time of Dream's creation.

·The general time period for this crossover is during what would be the start of the Sandwing Succession War, basically it's only like 5 years into the war upon the founding of L'Manberg. Though time works differently on the continent [Imma just start calling it The Isle <not the game>] but Im still working that out. Basically a year only passes if XD says it does and no one's really keeping track whereas time keeps moving outside of it.

·Also due to the nature of this au, the characters will have different names to better fit into the world since everyone but like Dream is from outside the Isle. I'll do the name list at somepoint. Same for the countries... Maybe, the country names will probably stay unless I get ideas for them- only change thus far is that the Greater SMP is called the Greater Isle.

want less work than that and still reuse the map and get rid of shiekah tech AND reuse characters? ok then make it some alternate universe thingy like majoras mask in which everythign is the same but also isnt, its weird and creepy how characters you thoguht you knew suddendly dont act like themselves, shiekah tech doesnt exist, malice is now miasma, etc, it would give reason to why you feel so much like something about this world is familiar yet also very wrong

as far as im aware every "sequel" we have had so far were either generations apart from the first one, some alternate universe or a different location altogether- in all of which its plausible that things are different, things seem weirdly familiar but also wrong, or that another continent just works different from hyrule

but totk does none of that, its supposedly just a few years after the first game, same world same character, but its BUILT like some strange jumbled mess of stuff from botw and new stuff out of nowhere that just .. doesnt fit, but feeling a strange sense of otherness, a déja vu of something you know but it acts off, like an imposter, thats NOT intentional and it shows, its a mess of botw stuff, from stuff that people missed from the old games and entirely new stuff; i dont doubt it CAN work but the way it turned out is like a mix of 3 different puzzles forced together and being told 'see it fits!' even tho you can clearly see the pieces dont look right in these places

again it feels like a sequel that desperately wants you to forget the first game happened, that anythign from it mattered at all

and that isnt really ... the sense of a sequel? why insist on it being one when it only creates problems? is it marketing?? just like it was marketing to call age of calamity a telling of what happened before botw but then it wasnt that at all and that is still the sole reason why i dislike it? bc i was lied to? totk is like 10000 times worse than that, its a main title and doesnt even have the excuse of yeah its basically an excuse to play all your fav characters in fun ways and the game beign well aware that being its main appeal; what is totk appeal? a toybox with botw aestethic and none of the flavor?

i said it before but it gives me the feeling that the way botw invited you to theorize, to look beneath the surface, the way it intrigued you and laid the groundwork for so many interesting things without denying anything.. was accidental? or perhaps put in the game without the directors noticing? i cant stop thinking about them saying sth like "after botw zelda wondered if the kingdom of hyrule needed to keep existing the way it had been before the calamity, but then totk happens" bc it just feels like they realized too late that botw naturally led into questioning the status quo and they scrambled to fit it back into a flat and boring road we have seen so many times before (or even worse really) with totk

zeldas character naturally leads into her questioning and reexamine their history and set of rules? we gotta teach her a lesson of why she is importante god given monarchy girl that has to keep it bc what if evil brown man shows up again for no reason

maybe im grasping at straws here but looking at it this way the sonau .. make more "sense"; the shiekah were a group that was under the rule of the royal family, and misstreated before (oh no look soemthing interesting) so they dont lend themselves well to be used for teaching zelda that lesson- the sonau however are tailored really to be just that; they are a supposedly godly race from the literal sky that founded this version of hyrule, that had tech even more advanced and better than the shiekah, she gets put in the past to meet the perfect god king of goodness personally, also his very fridgy wifey that zelda later replaces in a way, shes put there and treated like family and then gets to see just how evil that evil big man from the desert is, sonia is falcon-punched to death solely so zelda can feel obligated to take over her role, have her new, better 'family' hurt by gan; similarly so raurus sacrifice, look what a noble and good king he is, he payed the ultimate price to lock that evil man away, now zelda you cannot let their sacrifice go to waste, rebuild that divinely good kingdom like it was!!

and even though they go so much out of their way to put the cart back onto the rails of black and white-good and evil in an even flatter way than the old games, it still doesnt feel right, at least to me, it still feels like zelda shouldnt have gone along with all of that, it feels like even her character from botw was walked back entirely, except for the intro, it made her feel like a stranger to me-

because this is a sequel, i know this zelda, she wouldnt act like that after all that shes been through, this feels ... off

and it all just insulting to anyone who cared about botw more than surface level, or the zelda lore in general, i dont even care much about the timeline, but theres alot of lore and themes beyond it that felt ignored, especially so given that .. its a damn sequel, non AU, not generations apart, directly part 2-

it even feels very "corporate", put zelda in a dress again, people liked that, put crazy abilities in the game to flashbang people with how insane it is even if its not the best for the gameplay or the story, put a new asthetic into it out of nowhere bc its 'new' and act like its been there the whole time, put gan in there bc people miss him and find him sexy even if his role is just as flat as that of an evil cloud monster-

I’ve gone on and on about how Leo wants to be who Splinter finds is the ideal person (which just so happens to be Splinter’s ideal version of himself) but I have yet to really touch upon how Donnie is the one who most directly parallels Splinter himself to an honestly shocking degree, Raph’s taking from Splinter’s teachings and parenting has resulted in an unhealthy mixup in the different dynamics of a family versus a team, and Mikey is the one who is simultaneously the most focused on family and the most intrinsically himself which both leads to his better grasp of mystics and honestly what just might be the healthiest dynamic with Splinter.
