So I started doing my makeup at 7. I'm the smallest minority at every school I've been to. When I was 11 I discovered yt makeup videos. My mixed friend also felt some type of way of not having fashion or makeup represented for us. We discover other poc doing makeup. Do kawaii style and I embraced gyru which was controversial but I was a half white half Navajo "girl" told that I'm "ugly if I get too much sun" and other racists things. Gyru helped me embrace my copper summer time skin. When I was about 15ish, I discovered huda for the first time. I loved seeing a poc woth a simular skin tone, show me bold beautiful colors with dramatic winged liner. I mimicked that too- and changed some things here and there to male it more "me".

Grow up, sees people telling other people to not do these types of makeup styles because it's racist somehow (I mean, in some instances sure) But all I can think about is my non represented self wanting to be hot, beautiful, cute, but most importantly- comfortable in my own skin. So I still take inspiration. Only now my autism ass is like scared.

#this is just my perspective on things and i wish more mixed race people had microphones to discuss these types of things #like to me gyru went against what passive aggressive 'pretty' white girls were telling me #it went against the american goth and alternative community who literally told me i could whiten my skin to be more beautiful #i didn't want to do that #it helped me embrace my skintone and not worry so much about enjoying my childhood in the sun #huda showed me liner unlike what was already in the goth community #they showed me glam and i mixed it with goth and punk #i was showed what products have that good medium tone that actually suits me #while white girls at school would try to use their foundation on me #i pit light colors on my eyes just for them to dust completely off. no pigment. not on me. not FOR me. #i discovered gold and copper and orange and red are things that i looked great in #not colors i would reach for but i loved it #idk just my pov

6up 5oh cop out to me especially could be linked to daisy and the guy you mentioned as well as the hunt as whole because of both of them being heavily tied to and criticising the police/police brutality

warning for discussion of eds in this paragraph

skeleton appreciation day for me is the flesh,, dont get me wrong i can see your ideas too but i always interpreted the song as being about eds and negatively/unhealthily watching your weight in order to achieve "the perfect body" by society's standards; by being skinny,, "tell me you can see my bones" , "to cut down on my silhouette" and the whole end dialogue, so that fits into the flesh for me considering another situation of someone wanting the "ideal body" is something that is discussed in a flesh statement (mag90-bodybuilder), but i can see some themes in the song that can could be corruption, plus both the flesh and corruption are pretty closely linked at times (and smirkes system is just inaccurate to begin with)

dr sunshine is dead is as you said the dark to me,, in the sense of someone maybe becoming an avatar (song starts with narrator afraid of the dark/not knowing and ends with them embracing it) but also could be seen as the stranger or even spiral because of its themes (like most of ww's work) involving identity and the self

hmmm. a lot of people get into will through self-ish or the normal album, but those have a very different sound and somewhat different tone to them than his latest work, especially his latest album, in case i make it. honestly, i think that will wood is definitely one of those artists whose songs are going to appeal to you on a very personal level, so i can only advise so much. but i'll just give you a list of my favorite songs from each of his albums that i've listened to that got me into his work.

everything is a lot (one of his earlier albums, but i'd recommend checking out self-ish or the normal album first before trying this one out) - 6up 5oh cop-out (pro/con); thermodynamic lawyer, esq.; cover this song (a little bit mine)

"Sacrifice"

((Written for Strawbarrow Week in the discord. Inspired by HoloFeather's AU, where Kodya's Gyrus gives up his humanity to become Masiosare.))

“Can I come with you?” Kodya asked, long after there was nothing else to say.

Gyrus looked at him. “Why would you – Kodya, I told you. I’m not changing my mind. You already asked for one more day, and I’m giving that to you.” The unspoken message: just let it end on a good note. It was the last thing Gyrus had to give him.

“I just – I don’t want you to have to do it alone.” His voice was raw. He’d been crying off and on all day. Gyrus – Gyrus supposed that perhaps he was practicing what it would feel like when he had no feelings left. He’d felt numb. Like an automaton, carried forward by the weight of his decision, trying to perform the loving boyfriend for Kodya for one more day. A parting gift.

“I can’t – I can’t guarantee he’ll let you go again, when we merge. I won’t have control of the black box anymore.” I won’t be me anymore. But I’ll be someone strong enough to keep you safe from Don.

If only one of them could live, he wanted it – needed it – to be Kodya. If a sacrifice was to be made, it was to be Gyrus’ alone. They’d discussed this. Kodya had already made it clear he’d never agree. But it wasn’t his choice to make.

“I’ll take the risk.” Kodya crossed his arms. He wasn’t looking Gyrus in the eye. His lip was wobbling. “Please.”

Gyrus supposed Masiosare wouldn’t consider Kodya a threat. And he… found he didn’t really want to be alone. He knew how the merge process worked. He’d done it before with reset versions of himself. And the version of him that had lived longer tended to drown out the other one. He would come close to forgetting he had ever been anything other than Masiosare.

So in these last few hours of being himself… 

He still didn’t feel sad – didn’t feel anything– but Kodya brushed a tear away from his cheek. “Gyrus. You don’t have to do this.”

“I do, though. There’s no other option.” Masiosare had shown him the timelines. He knew. “Reality – reality won’t stand up to Don much longer, if I don’t do this.”

The cracks. The planets falling to pieces right before his eyes. Kodya cupped his face with his hands and Gyrus realized that he was shaking.

“I love the parts of you that care this deeply,” Kodya said softly and sorrowfully, like he was speaking a eulogy.

“You can come with me. Just – just don’t say anything. And do whatever Masiosare says, after I’m –” Gone. Submerged. Subsumed.

Kodya kissed his forehead. “Thank you.”

“I just – I don’t know why you want to see that.” For that to be your last glimpse of me.

“I told you. I don’t want you to be alone.”

But Gyrus was going to be alone. Forever.

But for now – for this one last night on this one last day – he wasn’t, not yet. So he held Kodya tightly, purposefully, and didn’t let go until the morning came.

ROOM OF SWORDS SPOILERS

just me ranting about webtoon's comment section because I want to exteriorize some stuff

The whole Roseberry situation is so so weird to me. Tbh when I started room of swords I didn't care much about the ships, I was there for the plot, but when strawbarrow was revealed to have been canon all along I was so happy for them

However a lot of people were displeased because they thought Gyrus would end up with Tori.

I think one of the comment sections that struck me the most was right as the episode ended with Tori kissing "Gyrus" (who was actually Kodya in Gyrus' body pretending to be him) and someone commented "imagine possessing your boyfriend's body only for some girl to kiss him" which was a pretty funny comment

some people responded however that if anything Kodya was Gyrus' ex because he had been in a relationship with BB!Gyrus but New Gyrus didn't know him the same way. Which WOULD have been a good argument to make if Gyrus hadn't been making puppy eyes at Kodya since S1...

tbh it's fine not to see it, I didn't see it either at first, but to say that Gyrus was CLEARLY attracted to Tori???????? when he never showed any sign of liking her as more than a friend?

I've read RoS many, many times both before and after it ended (been reading it from 2019 oh god it's been so long???) and all through S1 there are these small, small hints that Gyrus has a small crush on Kodya EVEN THOUGH he doesn't remember him. They were always meant to be together.

Tori does develop some feelings towards him, granted (we do learn that it's because he looks like her beloved but that's later, people couldn't have known back then), but that doesn't make Gyrus entitled to return them.

People shipping Roseberry shouldn't make the authors entitled to change THE ENTIRE PLOT simply because some people aren't happy with their story choices.

At that point there's been many hints that New Gyrus and Kodya are still attracted to one another and I'm just sad and confused that those people were in so much denial.

On the brighter side, the next episode really starts with Tori telling "Gyrus" that she knows he loves Kodya because she's seen him LITERALLY PINING SINCE DAY ONE. AND THAT SHES A LESBIAN.

case closed, right? Kodya and Gyrus are canon and still very much in love, and Tori herself is in love with another, yet unnamed woman.

well lo and behold: s2 finale's comment section!

we finally see Kodya and Gyrus sharing their first kiss onscreen, so someone in the comment section said something like "THEY FINALLY KISSED AAAAA OUR SHIP IS SAILING" which was also my reaction and a legit reaction to it??

and since there was A LOT of dislikes (over 1,6k I believe) the op edited to say something about homophobes and the backlash was even greater

and in the answers there was actually quite a lot of people being salty because their own ship didn't sail and

I mean idk

maybe I can't understand because my ship sailed and not theirs but what the hell

first of all homophobes exist. the authors commented that they had lost about 20% of their audience when they revealed that Gyrus and Kodya were canon, and they received a lot of hate online for it.

second of all as I said it's not about ships it's about the plot. strawbarrow was always endgame and the whole story, including the romance between Kodya and Gyrus and the important role it played on the story, been planned since over a year before RoS was published. this is not your story, if you're not happy about it go read or write some fix it fanfics (it's not so bad once you get used to it). but in terms of writing strawbarrow was so well executed, I feel like being mad just because of a ship is really disrespecting the authors' intentions.

third of all, it had been made painfully clear since A LONG TIME AGO that they wouldn't end up together. clinging onto that hope was really unnecessary. they shouldn't be mad anymore, it had been over for a while now and they should have made their peace. people complaining by the time of s2 finale were really just delusional.

fourth of all, the dislikes may not all be from homophobes but if they aren't then they're from jerks. it's not because you're unhappy that things didn't go your way that you have to hate on other people because they got what they wanted and not you. that's just being mean smh,, let people enjoy the things they like in peace
