Will and El are so cute they are the most wholesome sibling wlw and mlm solidarity. Max and Mike are the opposite because they are sibling wlw and mlm hostility. Max literally saw Mike and said "wow, you are so annoying you stupid fruit. I'm going to steal your girlfriend." And Mike saw Max and said "you are an annoying sappho. stop trying to date all my friends." And ever since then it's been nothing but gay on gay violence and I think that's beautiful.

You couldn’t keep your eyes away from the girl. Your heart ached for her, knowing the situation at hand. You understood now what everyone had meant about her hard exterior. She was cold, a barrier you couldn’t get passed. She didn’t seem the type to want to be comforted. But you can assume a lot about a person before you truly get to know them.

You hadn’t realized you had an audience when you had walked over to Max in the RV. You’d given Max and Lucas their space. Now Lucas was busy, asking Dustin something you didn’t really care about. Your worry for the red headed girl in front of you was more important. You’d walked over to her, a smile on your face. She gave one back but I didn’t reach her ears.

“Hey, your braid is getting a bit loose. Would you like me to fix it?” You asked, you were struggling to read her face. Worried you had said the wrong thing, but she nods.

“That would be nice, thank you.” She turns her body so her hair is facing you.

The others look on in shock, even Steve whose watching from the rear view mirror. Max for all everyone has said about her. Truly has always been seeking a sanctuary. Somewhere where she wasn’t being punished for being herself. Somewhere where someone cared.

You undo her braids, running your fingers in her hair. Thankfully, you always carry your tiny brush with you. You grab that from your bag and redo her hair. You don’t notice the tears falling from her eyes. She thanks whatever is out there, that her back is to you and everyone else. Her eyes staring out into the plains of grass rolling by. Kate Bush in her ears.

“Do you want me to add ribbon into your hair? It’s okay if you don’t want me to.” Max takes a second to answer, her heart aches now. You’re so kind, you didn’t even ask anything for return. You just wanted to braid her hair. To care for her in this gentle way. She can’t refuse you. She doesn’t know how. She only hesitates because she worries everyone else would hear her voice. Know she’s been crying.

“Sure.” She says softly. You reach over for the ribbon you always have in your bag. Your sisters always had places to be so you always made sure to pack things such as this. You’re grateful for them in this moment. So you could bond with Max. The way you bond with them.

A silence that feels like bliss fills the air. The ribbon is braided into Max’s hair. You make a bow at the end of it. Once you’re done, she turns and you both smile at each other. An understanding passes between you two.

You both turned and everyone pretended like they were doing something else. And not staring at the two of you. Your eye lands on Steve, he gives you a soft gentle smile.

Your eyes land back at Max. She was around the same age as one of your youngest sisters. How scary, this all was for her. You reached over to hug her.

“I hope this is okay.”

“It’s more than okay.”

my issue with the max storyline is that the duffer brothers are clearly intending on bringing her back in some way, and concurrently they don’t seem to have taken a single moment to google what ‘brain dead’ means

#don’t get me wrong #I love max so much #and there is a part of me that wants her to come back #but I do think it would have been a much more important storyline if they would let max die in earnest #like the whole she’s blind and in a coma and brain dead and all her bones are broken thing is just like #she can’t be brain dead and in a coma #because brain dead is dead #and in a coma is alive #bringing her back from brain death is a far cry from restarting the heart #that being said #if they then turned it into a storyline of essentially teaching el that yes she is powerful but she can’t bring back the dead #I think that would be pretty amazing #the devastation of realising that she didn’t understand the implications of what she was doing #that yes she brought back Max’s physical body but not her mind #that el isn’t omnipotent and she can’t save everyone #there’s potential here for a really interesting set of storylines #but I’m pretty sure that the duffers are gonna just bring max back from literal brain death with waist down paralysis and blindness #alright rant over #stranger things #max mayfield
