All you hoes claiming Maven is King Ruthless/Angst boy extraordinaire have clearly never met Prince Corrick “I have murdered and tortured many MANY people and have to physically hold myself back so I don’t make the woman I love hopelessly sad even when she’s not around but I will do those things if I have to at the expense of others because I love my brother and will do anything to keep him on the throne and will do vile things to save my skin and the skin of only those I care about” of Kandala and it fucking shows.

the genuine pain Evangeline feels over standing complicit in her Father’s death destroys me. This man who has done nothing but strip her of her freedom and force her into (abusive) engagements and undermine her value within the Rift and she’s still haunted by his death. She realized early on that the Cygnets want him as well for Maven and chooses to stay silent and when that passes and she’s given a second chance to say stop his death she stands and simply watches it happen. She outright tells Cal she hopes Iris’s gods aren’t real because she doesn’t want to know what they have in store for her. She thinks that the act of her keeping this information from Volo is proof to everyone that she’s a terrible person GOD

I love imagining scenarios where the yandere gets kidnapped by their darling not knowing that their darling is a yandere for them and Maven is the most entertaining one for me to think about.
Also, should I just go with the nickname plastic anon?
Oh yes~ your name shall now be plastic anon. And I finally made anon list for you <3 I am happy u love our yandere albino boyyyyy
But Back to scenario...
Kidnapping Maven would actually be really easy. You could just ask him to come to you and he would XD
Maven.exe would have stopped working.
You would really break Maven if you kidnapped him first. Maven could never imagine that you love him the way he loves you. He would be happy and disappointed in himself at the same time… Because Maven thinks he should have known this.
He wouldn't be able to speak for about half an hour. That's how confused he would be. Maven will just hug you (if you let him). Finally he would get his thoughts in order… And could tell how much he would love you. It wouldn't be hard to believe. This guy would have a phone full of pictures of you XD
Happy yandere couple <3

i love that red queen puts family as the chief unit of love even above true romantic love like that for some reason is SO overrated in ya media. i dont think of the characters within friendship or romantic groups first, i unconsciously catergorise them into their family.
cal loves mare but cal will put maven first always and he loves his dad and his image so much he’s willing to sacrifice his character and relationship with her to fulfil the expectations set by his family and its not until realising what his MOTHER wanted for him that he lets go. and mare loves cal but she will always put her siblings and parents first which is why everything started with gisa and shade’s loss and it ended with her sister and the loss of her brother too. maven loves mare but he loves elara more even if she twisted him and elara loves maven more than the entire kingdom and thats why she twisted him. and elara couldn’t enact her plan to make maven king without getting rid of his love for cal first!! when shade gets killed mare HAS to kill elara because that is the only way she can make sure her pain is even with at least one person.
cameron does everything for her brother’s safety, she was willing to abandon her morals and dehumanise anyone standing in her way if thats what needed to happen. and after morrey was safe she quit— nothing was worth losing herself over except him. farley and shade’s love was so pure that it brought life and family to the farleys who were already broken with the grief of being halved. their love brought a daughter named after the death of the woman that destroyed the family, and it was so healing.
and that is what KILLS me about the samos family!!! that compared to all this unconditional loyalty— the samos family is a continuous act of playing at love and loyalty, when in reality volos and larentia could not care less about their children because they dont know how to. silver society never showcases this love and so then you have so many parents fucking up their kid in so many ways but doing it out of love because thats how they see it— all except volo and larentia.
so the samos family is an exception. i cant think of evangeline without thinking of elane and ptolemus and i cant think of ptolemus without thinking of evangeline and wren. thats their family. and at least evangeline and ptolemus experienced real love with each other, even if they were never taught it (evangeline’s fear over shade’s death was proof that she could imagine a world without him and it was one of the few times she was genuinely scared in the series).

Hold Onto Me, Dear. You're Too Far Away.
Tumblr media
summary: Drabbles of how various Skyrim men would react to their partner passing away. gn reader, no pronouns or y/n used. feat: Brynjolf, Miraak, Erandur, Vilkas, Teldryn, Mercer, Arnbjorn warnings: Non graphic depiction of death/loss. Grief.
Brynjolf would be lost. His mind has no capacity for work, hardly managing to keep himself upright. The depression, grief, denial, the all-consuming anguish he cannot escape is more than he can take. Eyes full of pity and empty words of reassurance do nothing, he can do nothing other than miss you. He closes himself off. He is unwilling to become close to anyone else in fear of losing yet another person he loves. There has been too much loss already, surely loneliness is easier than this. "'Hope Nocturnal's treatin' you right, love. If there's somethin' after death you better be waitin' for me."
Miraak would tear the world to shreds. Without you, he sees no point in allowing the world continuing to exist. No corner of Nirn is spared from his rage. Refusing to appear weak he forges his sadness into a burning, bottomless anger. He allows no daedra to take your body nor honor you as their champion, fighting even Hermaeus Mora away from any attempt to claim you. All other titles fell second to the one you held most dear, the one he whispered against your skin every night before sleep. His beloved. "You gave me your word! You swore that should we go, we would go together. You lied."
Erandur would mourn you deeply and eternally. He ensures that you live on in every action he takes, your memory carried on in him. Each marriage he presides over and every couple he blesses is done in your name as much as Lady Mara’s. His first and last thoughts of the day reserved only for you. Your name features frequently in his prayers, never letting you go. "My dear, I know you are looking down on me. I hope you are proud that I continued our work mending this nation, but words cannot express how badly I wish we could do this hand in hand."
Vilkas throws himself into his work. Your work. Becoming the Harbinger in your stead is only natural as you were so close, sharing the workload for years. He works himself to exhaustion because it is easier than confronting the chasm of grief that’s opened deep in his chest. It is only in the wee hours of early morning when he finally thinks of you. When night is beginning to pass and the Sun plucks at the horizon, vision blurred with oncoming sleep. He's wrapped in blankets that still smell faintly of your favorite soap and wishes desperately that you would somehow come back to him. "Please, just one more night. I can't do it all on my own. I just need one more night with you."
Teldryn loses his laughter. Gone is the friendship, all clients becoming nothing more than that. His helmet remains firmly in place as a clear barrier that he will maintain. There are too many lost friends and stories he alone remembers. He keeps the same table at the Retching Netch and can almost imagine you next to him. He stares over the rim of his drink daring you to plop down into your usual spot, laughing at the idea of being apart. Other patrons learn quickly that despite it being an empty chair it is not to be touched. "Been thinking about heading to Skyrim, I've seen enough of Solstheim to last a lifetime. Sure wish you were comin' with me."
Mercer’s rage would tear through Riften like a storm. All sense of duty is forgotten in his thirst for revenge. Bloodlust is his saving grace, the thread that keeps him from barreling headfirst into grief. Brynjolf recruited you, Delvin and Vex trained you, Maven hired you - they are all at fault in his eyes. He will not rest until your death is paid back tenfold. He bottles up any thoughts of you until he lays face up in the Cistern, bloodied and beaten by people he'd once considered family. The rage fueling his rampage finally deflates, the dam broken and that horrible ache filling every inch of his body. He lost you and had no one else to blame but himself. "Never thought I'd see the day, never thought I'd be the one left here missing you."
Arnbjorn would depart from the Dark Brotherhood. Two loves, two Sanctuaries, two tragic losses. He can't remain stuck there, frozen in time surrounded by all those memories. He's skilled enough to forge his own way in the world, departing from Dawnstar without looking back. Metal working allows him the solitude he craves, somewhere far away from persistent questions and eyes filled with pity. He wants only to escape the onslaught of memories of those he’s lost, steeling his heart against ever loving again.  "This is all your fault. You're the one that made me care. Your fault for makin' me fall for you."

Yandere rottmnt
Rottmnt yandere writing (Romantic)
Warning: Mentions of violence, unhealthy relationships, manipulation, kidnapping. (Do not do any of this in real life, this is just for entertainment purposes)
(Notes: I’m changing Y/n to Mc or just saying you)
Sorry this took so long to post, but I had writers block and it took me a while to write.
Raph
Overprotective and clingy
He just wants to keep Mc safe and protected, and the best way to do that is to always be around them
He loves hugging Mc because if they’re in his arms, nothing will hurt them, so he cuddles with Mc a lot
As the oldest, he feels responsible for his family's safety, and he includes you in that, so he absolutely loves when you depend on him for anything, it doesn’t matter what it is, it could be just getting something off a shelf, or helping you train
Is very careful around you, because of all his spikes and that he’s just so big and could hurt you so very easily, and he’ll always try to keep you away from his spikes, just in case
Raph wishes he didn’t have to deal with being a Hamato, and fighting villains, and almost dying a lot, because you spend less time together because of it, and you’re in danger cause you’re friends with him
He’ll try and find the courage to confess first, but if you do, he won’t have any issues with it
If Raph confesses first, then it’ll be on accident, he just blurted it out while you two were cuddling or something
Loves to just be with you, you two don’t maven have to do anything, he just likes being around you
As much as he loves affection is private, he gets so embarrassed with PDA, and doesn’t like it that much
Leo
Manipulative, self-indulgent
Leo wants to be needed by Mc
He’s highly insecure about himself, and he wants to feel helpful to them because he associates his worth with what he can do for others
If Mc comes to Leo with their problems, Leo will feel so proud of himself, and he will do anything to help
Will try to isolate Mc from people, so he can be the only one they depend on
Very manipulative, he makes it seem like isolating you from everyone is a good thing because they “Never really cared about you” or “Are just using you” and other various excuses that he has come up with to keep you with him
The only people you’re allowed to communicate with other than him, are his brothers, Splinter, April, and Casey (he does not trust anyone else with you)
He gets jealous very easily and always wants attention and affirmation that he’s worth it, and that you love him
He seems very cocky and jokes around a lot, but he’s actually insecure and uses jokes to hide it
He’s very affectionate, and caring, but he can be overbearing a lot
Donnie
Impulsive, dependant
Donnie has definitely hacked into the street cameras near your house, and the school cameras, so he can always watch you
Most likely has at least two trackers on you, and checks them every few hours
He craves your affirmation, and does so many things to impress you, like inventing things that would interest you, or being reckless to protect you
If Mc compliments him, he’ll be so very happy, because like Leo, he’s very insecure
Will try and get you to spend as much time with him as possible, but he's not that jealous, cause he knows you can never replace him
He does worry about it, but he's convinced himself you love him back, because why else would you give him, and only him, compliments
Donnie will only make a move, and ask you out if his brothers or April pressure him enough, or if you give him hints that you like him, however, hes extremely dense and doesn’t get social cues, so even if you flirted with him everyday, he’d never notice it
If you confess first, then he’ll automatically accept, but he’ll definitely try to hide his obsession with you, even more than before
All he wants is a cute domestic relationship with you, but he’d never admit it
Mikey
Worshiping, obsessive
Sees Mc as some sort of god, that must be worshiped and praised, and will do absolutely anything for them
Is either very shy around you, or ecstatic to see you, but either way he loves being around you, and he sees it as a gift from you, that he gets to spend the most time with you
Has a closet in his room that’s just filled with stuff you gave him, stuff he stole from you, photos of you, or just stuff that reminds him of you
He does somewhat try to hide his obsession, but he wouldn’t really care that much if you found out, unless you left him for it
Mikey is extremely energetic with his fighting style as is, but if / when he fight people for you (They’re either trying to hurt you or they already have) he’s even more energetic, and much more violent
If it means protecting you, he’ll do anything, even if it's morally wrong or illegal
If you find out he’s obsessed and you do try and leave him he’ll be devastated, he sees you as a god like being, so clearly the only reason you left is because he’s not good enough for you, or he did something to offend you
He’ll try and get you back by any means necessary, even if you try and cut contact with him
But if you don’t then Mikey will be the happiest person ever, and will probably ask to marry you

I'm not sure if its possible to get something like pigs blood from a butcher in the US, but i feel like someone like Esme would prefer that over hunting animals.
And maybe Carlisle and Rosalie would work on a blood alternative, kind of like TruBlood, for vampires.
What are your thoughts on that?
My understanding is that it's tricky in the US to find it, but with the Cullens' money they could probably pay off some local butchers to save blood for them. Just imagining Esme being like "oh I make authentic black pudding and sell it online!" as an explanation and they make like a fake online store front for it and then people start trying to actually order it and she's like, oh crap I guess I have to make some now? Like when you read stories about restaurants that were really fronts for mob activity but someone wanders in and the mobsters have to get their mom to cook some pasta for the oblivious customers.
But, really, if SM were more interested in 'vampire slice of life' stuff AND if she had more room in her story for the secondary characters to have desires and motivations outsides of either facilitating or resenting the main romance, of course Carlisle would have been trying to make a blood substitute, and of course Rosalie and Edward, with their various STEM degrees, would be helping him. And OF COURSE they would have researched the myths surrounding vampires having children long before Bella got pregnant. It's absolutely impossible for me to suspend my disbelief to accept that the Cullens and especially Carlisle were just like 'wow we literally never thought or wondered about this until just now' when Bella gets pregnant. Esme and Rosalie LONG for children! SURELY they've researched this before!?!? I could accept that they researched it but found no concrete evidence and thought it was just a myth made up by the Volturi or whatever but just the 'literally no idea . . . even though apparently there are books in our library about it, and our groundskeepers on Isle Esme know about it, and there are websites online about it' does not make sense to me unless the Cullens have just literally been standing around like unplayed Sims waiting for Edward and Bella to need them for something.
I also think the Cullens probably should have been working on some kind of sparkle-suppressing vampire make-up. I've seen people asking why they don't just use make-up to hide the sparkle or look older, but since their skin is so different from human skin, normal make-up probably wouldn't work that well. But again, you've got Alice the fashion maven and bunch of other vampires with backgrounds in biology and they can't put their heads together and come up with some kind of vampire-friendly, sparkle-proof foundation?
Again, I get it: at the end of the day Twilight is a romance, and romances generally and understandably have a narrow focus on the central relationship. But romances don't usually have so MANY side characters, either. Realistically, I would expect the Cullens, with their various medical and scientific studies, abundant free time (no sleep!) and unlimited wealth, would have already solved a lot of living-as-a-vampire problems by the time Bella showed up.
Assuming they can be solved, of course. Maybe vampire venom on the skin really just makes any make-up lasting for more than a half hour impossible. Maybe a blood substitute just doesn't work because there's some magical 'blood is the life' thing going on here. Maybe pig's blood is just too impractical to get from a butcher in the volume they need it. Maybe the act of hunting helps them release tension and they realize they miss it.
But yeah I'd have loved to have seen more of this. There's some stuff in Midnight Sun that hints at the stuff the Cullens get up to, but it's more like, Emmett and Jasper's complicated chess game with multiple boards, or Alice and Rosalie designing clothes on the computer. I don't think SM really thought about 'what would a vampire doctor who wants to be as human as possible be researching in his spare time?' and so we missed out on some of this stuff.

don't wanna be alone anymore [ken lemmons x oc]
Tumblr media
A/N: the first in what will (hopefully) be a series of maggie/ken drabbles and one-shots. this one is pretty stream of consciousness and shifts tense so i apologize if it's incomprehensible. in my defense uni has been kicking my ass lately (one more week of the semester left, thank GOD) ken lemmons x oc. word count: 1.3k. crossposted on ao3.
For Maggie Zielinski, romance is something that she watches other people get to experience. She’s long been resigned to the fact that it isn’t something she’s meant to experience herself.
She doesn’t know what it is about her. She certainly isn’t bad looking, she understands that much. Clear blue eyes, full lips, and an even fuller chest. Still, that had never stopped her from becoming the butt of all the boys’ jokes back in grade school.
And it’s not like she’s never had friends. No, Maggie’s always had loads of friends. She knows how to work a crowd, how to say the right things at the right time to set the whole room laughing. Even before she met Vee, Loretta, Mabel, and the rest of the ground crew, she’d had a whole gaggle of friends back home in Detroit.
Her main circle was a raucous group of six—Ida and Annemarie, Nina, Victoria, Victoria’s brother Paul, and Ida’s cousin Vinny. They’d been friends since the very first day of junior high, maybe more out of the novelty of the experience than anything. For all that Detroit was a metropolis, its neighborhoods could be as insular as any backwater town. In Maggie’s world of newly-arrived immigrants and babcie who watched the streets like hawks, where everyone worked at the same auto plant and everyone knew everyone else’s business, it was nice to see some new faces.
Maggie loved her Detroit friends. She loved their laughs, their smiles, their inside jokes and their secrets. She tried her best to help them out when they needed it, to offer a shoulder to cry on or an ear to talk off. She gave her friends everything she could. It was just a shame that they never did the same for her.
As the years passed, Maggie found herself confronting a terrifying reality—that for all she was devoted to her friends, they would never love her as much as she loved them.
Sure, things were fine when it was just two or three of them alone. Catching a matinee with Victoria, or going out to lunch with Ida and Annemarie—here, Maggie felt comfortable. Victoria would always riff on whatever movie they were seeing, making her dissolve into giggles. Ida and Annemarie would insist on paying for Maggie’s meal, and they’d stay in their booth for hours on end, just chatting the day away.
But when it was the six of them all together, Maggie couldn’t help but feel that something was off. That there were things that the other five were privy too that she wasn’t—and to which she maybe wasn’t meant to be. There’d be some new in-joke that nobody ever bothered to explain, some party that she hadn’t been invited to, some other get-together that they’d forgotten to tell her about.
Well, two could play at that game.
When Maggie enlisted as a technician with the Army Air Force, she didn’t tell any of them what she had done.
Nina and Vinny, newly engaged, spotted her the day before she left for basic training. The image of the couple stopping dead in their tracks, eyes wide as they took in Maggie’s new uniform and fully-packed suitcase, filled with a determination that would carry her thousands of miles away from Poletown, was forever burned into her mind.
Maggie wasn’t sad that she’d be missing the wedding. It wasn’t like she was going to be chosen to be a bridesmaid. Money was still tight, after all. There was only enough in the budget to get dresses made for Annamarie and Victoria. Ida, of course, would be the maid of honor.
(She understands, Maggie says. No, Nina, really. It’s fine. She understands completely.)
(She cries herself to sleep into Agnes’ shoulder that night.)
When she meets the Mavens in basic training, she spends the first few months of their friendship waiting for the other shoe to drop.
It’s not that she’s awkward around them; in fact, it’s exactly the opposite. The four of them get on like a house on fire. Loretta with her witty comebacks and shining black curls, Mabel with her dry wit and hands that always smell of chain grease, and Vee with her earnest modesty and the snapping lens of her Kodak 35. For all her faults, Maggie’s never had a problem charming people. It’s getting them to stay that’s the difficult part.
Is she boring? She doesn’t think she’s boring. Especially not here in the army, where stories of home practically form a currency among the enlisted women and men. Besides, Maggie knows how to spin a yarn, to make even the most mundane story from a life spent in auto plants and dim garages seem like something out of an adventure magazine.
But that’s never enough, is it? It wasn’t enough to keep the people she thought were her friends, the people she loved more than life itself, from leaving her in the dust. It wasn’t enough to keep her from becoming a veritable untouchable among the boys in grade school, the kind of girl you would ask out to the pictures on a dare, only to leave her stranded at the ticket booth. Even the boys who considered her friends were just that—friends. Never anything more. While Ida and Victoria and Nina and Annamarie were busy with first kisses and sneaking out of bedroom windows late at night, Maggie sat in her room and watched them grow up without her.
There’s only so many rejections you can take before you start to think that romance, hell, even reciprocated platonic love, just isn’t something that you’re made for. Only so many missed engagements and plans made behind one’s back until you start to think that maybe there’s something, some reprehensible quality inherent to yourself, that pushed people away.
So, she holds her breath and waits. Waits for the Mavens eventually grow tired of her.
But they don’t.
Because it’s there, isn’t it? The love.
It’s in the filmstrips Vee develops late at night after their shifts, holed up in the makeshift darkroom she’s set up in an abandoned storage closet. It’s in the magazines Loretta always passes to her once she’s finished reading them, telling her to use it for the scrapbook, there’s some great stuff in there. It’s in the way Mabel taught her how to ride a bike way back during basic training, shocked that she had never learned, but oh so willing to help her try. Maggie can never forget the way Mabel had cheered when she finally got the hang of pedaling.
And then, of course, there’s Ken.
When she kisses him that night on the floor of Rosie’s Riveters, she burns with shame and tears, shed and unshed for her siblings and for Cleven and for Ken and for herself. She waits for him to recoil, to glare, to tell her not to do it again. At best, she waits for him to let her down easy. But he doesn’t.
That night he kisses her like she’s the only thing in the world that matters, and it just makes her want to cry harder, because she doesn’t deserve it. Her brother is dead, her sister is missing, Major Cleven is God knows where, and she completely lost it at Rosenthal, so what right does she have to be touched like this, to be held like this? None. None at all.
At the same time, she doesn’t have it in her to fight herself. The floor of the nose is cold, and Ken is so, so warm. The kind of warmth she wishes that she could crawl into and live inside of. East Anglia is chilly this time of year.
She shifts, opening her mouth to his, and for a moment wonders what sins she’s committed to have had this feeling denied to her for twenty-one years. Yet there’s no use wondering, is there?
Ken loves her. That much is clear.
She just has to be ready to accept it. And after two decades of loneliness, that’s easier said than done.

could I request some yandere catwoman hcs? There's a lack of content for my girl selina
Didn't say what type so whatever GIF I find first that I like, I'm going with. Since I am going to do Michelle Pfeiffer! Catwoman, I decided that BTAS! would be good.
Tumblr media
To be quite honest, she's already been shown to be quite impulsive, like when she kissed Batman, so it's going to be quite quick for her to kidnap.
A typical darling in Gotham is mean, and that would drive off most villains unless there is at least one, (1), redeeming quality about them. Selina's best darling would be either a soft darling, or a mean darling who has a soft spot for animals, either way, they must like cats.
They would most likely meet with Reader chasing Isis [Her black cat] out of the road when a car was coming when she was Catwoman and escaping Batman, or to find Reader petting Isis when she escaped from her as Selina Kyle.
Regardless, she doesn't think much of you, except that you must have been a good person to pet a random cat in Gotham, or to even make sure that the animal is safe. She continues along her days rarely thinking of you until she sees you again, yelling at Batman for almost hitting an animal with his batmobile, regardless of the fact that he's Batman or not.
She finds this part of you amusing, the fact that you care not for who they are, just that they almost hit an animal is enough for you to determine that they must be a bad person.
She acknowledges that she thinks about you often now, wondering if you would take money from her or if you would throw it away. She doesn't think of the fact that you don't know who she is, but Maven can find out more about you so Selina can introduce herself.
She introduces herself and inserts herself into your life as Selina and as Catwoman, using her persona to stalk you throughout the night when you sneak out to pet the animals nearby.
Selina loves this cute side of you and wishes to protect it, hence why after a month of debating, she kidnaps you. I must protect this good child, take care of her as my own. She expected a surprise, maybe you yelling at her, but for Reader to simply not care? What a shock.
She finds this so interesting, and uses her money to spoil you, giving you a sheltered life. As long as you never go back to your old family, she can give you everything you ever wanted!

that maven corianne interaction u posted was truly insane and i have not stopped thinking about it and how much i love there dynamic
I have brainrot about young Coriane and her strangely Loner™️ uncle who is staying with her family, and her parents struggle to be in the same room as the guy, and she is not allowed to talk to him or be near him, but she is and always will be Mare Barrow's kid and that makes her a Problem™️. So she decides to invite him to play games with her when they are not home. First, she asks him to play hide and seek. He looks over the faded edge of the book he is scowling at and says, "fine, go hide." She giggles and runs away as he "counts". She uses her best hiding place, the one her dad can't find her in, and she waits and waits and waits (she hides for a good two hours) and then she comes out to see him still sitting in the exact same place and says, "You're bad at this game." And he just turns the page and says, "I found you didn't I?" He looks up from the book with a bored raised eyebrow and says, "So clearly you are bad at it." And she is fucking GOBSMACKED, her little mouth falls open in horror and she stares at him for a solid few seconds. He expects her to argue, to stomp her foot and be mad, but instead she just crosses her arms and glares at him in a very "Mare Barrow" fashion and it kinda unsettles him. He pulled an Uno Reverse (not that that exists in this universe but whatever) on her and she is like: I will not be fooled into losing my favorite game again. So she keeps finding all these games to rope him into: cards, a board game she realizes her parents have just been letting her win at after he wins four times in a row, a different card game that she makes up (she cheats and keeps changing the rules to try and beat him but he finds a way to out-craft her every time), and then finally one day she brings him an old faded wooden box and sets it on the kitchen table where he is reading in the sunlight and then climbs on the chair across from him and sitting on her knees takes the top off and flips it around to show him a chess board and the pieces in the box. He tenses and she very awkwardly starts setting the pieces up incorrectly (she's only seen Cal set it up once or twice when Julian comes over) but with absolute confidence that she is correct. She crosses her arms, stares him down, and says, "we are going to play." and he just stares at the board between them before closing his book with a snap and rising. "No." he says and walks away. He's never said no before and she is furious. She chases after him, begging him to come play with her, grabbing his hand and pleading until she is almost crying. Eventually she lets go of his hand in the hallway and just sits down and starts crying. He is frozen and that is when Cal pokes his head out and is like: what happened? And she runs to him crying and Cal just takes her in his office and closes the door. And then like 30 minutes later, Cal finds Maven and is holding a sniffling and puffy eyed Coriane who clings to his neck and hides her face there when Cal stands there in silence for a few seconds. Maven watches him struggle for a bit before raising a brow and saying, "yes?" Cal inhales deeply and then says, "get the board set up, we're going to teach her how to play." And then just goes into the kitchen where the board is still waiting. Maven hesitates, then slowly follows and eyeing them like a cornered animal as Cal gives Coriane a glass of water and calms her down a little more. He brings her over at the time as Maven readjusts the pieces and sits down with her in his lap and begins explaining the pieces, what they can do, etc. And Maven watches her purse her little lips, and laughs internally because she is literally 5 years old why the heck would she be able to play chess? And then they start playing and she is getting it (kinda sorta, she's getting it for a 5 year old), guarantee she has Cal helping her and it is mostly him playing, but she is asking all the questions and understanding his answers and she has more than glimmer (more like a shine) of a strategic brain. And then when they win she is so excited and Maven smiles at them, and then Cal smiles at him.

Mareven Boyfriend Excerpt
Tagging @ball-of-butter bc she said she was excited for it
“Maven.”  Elara’s face brightened.  “You sound lovely.”
A girl popped out from behind the door, soft and serene.  I can’t help but wonder if she’s seen my pictures.  If her heart raced as mine in the dim moonlight.
She cocked her head.  “Really.”  Her smile was shy, a lullaby.  “I could be better, you know.”
“Nonsense.”  Elara waved a hand.  “You’re perfect, darling.”
Cal took his sister’s hands with a sad smile.  “You’re too hard on yourself.”
I can’t disagree.  I’ve never been good at smiling, but I’m sure a stanger’s word is worth as much as any other’s.  “You’re quite talented.”
Her eyes met mine for the first time, hand brushing a curl behind her ear.  “Thanks.”
Cal gripped my shoulder, jolting me to attention.  “Maven, this is Mare.”  The words were soft, measured.  “My girlfriend.”
Her eyes darkened, so brief I might’ve imagined it.  She extended a hand.  “Charmed.”
