Meandering Amongst the Mountains (Denali National Park & Preserve) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A view of tundra, evergreens, and ridgelines, stretching across the Denali National Park landscape while walking along the Wonder Lake Trail. This is looking to the southeast with the snowcapped peaks of Denali and the Alaska Range off in the distance on a walk not long after leaving the North Face Lodge area. From the rise in the trail, I was able to capture this image looking over this setting and bring the mountain peaks into the upper part of the image so that I had a more sweeping view captured with the image. I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 3 that I’d recently purchased after moving away from Capture NX2.

A Sunset Makes for Such a Beautiful Thing (Jasper National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A Sunset Makes for Such a Beautiful Thing Daylight had guided our way But now darkness comes in only a short time We all get to experienced the closing of a day And I tried to make the most of today I definitely look forward to tomorrow So no matter where I am on this planet Earth There’s always a book end for the day Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured one early evening as the sun was setting in Jasper National Park. This was at a roadside pullout along the Maligne Lake Rd with a view looking to the northwest. My thought on composing this image was to create a layered look with the nearby, hillsides and then more distant mountains of Pyramid Mountain and the Victoria Cross Range. The rest was metering the image to not blow any highlights from the areas caught in sunlight, while still being able to later pull out the more shadowed areas nearby in post production. I chose to work with Aurora HDR Pro to better bring that complete setting in the image. I later exported a TIFF image to DxO PhotoLab 6 where I did some final adjustments with contrast, saturation and brightness for the final image.
