Thread of #INFINITE members and their struggles

1. Sunggyu - Sunggyu's family had financial struggles when he was younger to the point where they had to live with family friends. He was even made fun of by friends for being poor. At one point when his parents' business failed, they had to live in a rooftop flat.

He was in a high school band and his dream was to become a rocker. His parents didn’t support his dream. When he graduated, he told them and they told him to leave the house if he wanted to become a singer. He therefore left for Seoul. Since he had no support from his parents, he had to work part-time jobs to support himself while he auditioned. He auditioned for SM ent in 2007 and 08 but failed. He was a fan of Nell.

One day while working at a cafe, he met Nell's manager who asked him to audition for Woollim's new boy group. He did audition but after had tummy pain and had to be rushed to hospital to get an appendicectomy! Luckily he got in.

He did not how to dance so he had to learn everything. He wanted to be in a band but he had to settle for being in a boyband. Some of his school friends teased him about it.

Even after debut he got criticised for his looks. He even lost his centre position in Come Back Again to Myungsoo. He got many hate comments for his looks but he remained strong.

2.Dongwoo - Dongwoo liked dancing so he was an assistant to a dance instructor at dance academies. He used to be a JYP trainee but left and got accepted by Woollim. He didn’t know how to rap when he came to Woollim but was taught by Epik High.

When Dongwoo was training, he was advised by the CEO of Woollim to leave the group. He was told the same thing by the CEO even after #INFINITE debuted.

3. Woohyun - Woohyun always wanted to be a celebrity. He used to be a shopping mall model. He also auditioned for several companies and failed. Finally, he got into YG and Woollim. Luckily, he chose Woollim.

He said they were given only $5.5 for each meal as trainees so he had to eat the same food over and over again. One day, he got some extra money and went to eat a hamburger but got caught by the manager, who took his burger away.

As a trainee, Woohyun was also asked by the CEO to leave the group. Even after debut, he was asked by the CEO to leave.

4. Hoya - When they were younger, Hoya thought they were well-to-do because he would get everything he asked for. But one day, he came back from school and saw debt notices all over his house.

Hoya dreamed of becoming a dancer so much that he dropped out of high school. He still pretended to go to school but instead would go train. When his father found out, he was really angry and turned Hoya out of their home.

Hoya left Busan and came to Seoul. He auditioned for several companies but failed. He ended up as a JYP trainee but left. He also auditioned for superstar K but was dropped. Finally he got into Woollim.

Hoya didn’t know how to rap and was taught by Epik High. He debuted as #INFINITE but he made a promise that he wouldn't go back to Busan until he succeeded. His relationship with his father was still awkward. He cried while talking about his father.

5. Sungyeol - Sungyeol wanted to become an actor. He used to be in SM Academy for acting. He had some very minor roles. He finally auditioned for Woolllim and got accepted. However, he had no experience of an idol trainee and had to learn everything from scratch!

Sungyeol was the last member to be added to the #INFINITE line up and had the shortest training period. He worked very hard to get up to speed with the rest of the members and finally debuted. He got a lot of backlash for being a subvocal and struggled with a lot of hate comments

6. L - Myungsoo wanted to be an idol. He used to be a shopping mall model. He auditioned for several companies several times and failed. Finally, he was street-casted by Woollim who asked him to audition and he passed.

7. Sungjong - Sungjong's first audition was at Woollim ent and he passed. He was from Gwanwgju so he had no place to stay in Seoul. He ended up living in the CEO's house for months. He trained for about two years but was not part of the original lineup for #INFINITE

#INFINITE was orginally going to debut as a 5-membered group (Sunggyu, Dongwoo, Woohyun, Hoya, Myungsoo). But Sungjong was finally added to the group, followed by Sungyeol. He got to debut. He also got a lot of hate for being a subvocal and his feminine looks.

Even after debut and many years with #INFINITE Sungjong got harassed by anti-fans with hate comments to the point where during The Chaser promotions he stopped smiling to look 'more manly'. He was also scolded by the company for doing GG dances and asked to lose weight.

Because Woollim was such a small company, #INFINITE lived in a run-down house, with rickety bunk beds and some members had on the floor beddings. They had a tiny kitchen and no air conditioner. Even their training room was not big enough. They used to practice late into the night, for 18 hours a day, in order to achieve perfect synchronisation.

They also worked very hard to practice for live singing. The CEO would take them to Han river and he'd be on a bike and they would have to run and sing at the same time and were not allowed to stop.

They were put on a strict diet by the company so if they wanted decent food they would have to hide and eat it. They once ate in a playground.

The CEO set a goal that if they got into top 10, then they would move to a new dorm. They ranked 7 with Nothing's Over, after which, instead of changing their dorm, the CEO set they have to rank 1st to change their dorm.

Since #INFINITE only enjoyed moderate success with Come Back Again, BTD, and Nothing's Over, the CEO was about to become bankrupt. He sold his house to produce their 1st full album Over the Top. Be Mine was their last shot at continuing as a group.

When #INFINITE finally won with Be Mine, it meant they were able to move dorms and continue to promote. It was an emotional and an important win for them. It was a struggle to exist.

Even after being idols, they’d been mistreated. SY was almost turned out because he spoke informally to a company higher up. The members would get scolded by stylists if they had an opinion about their clothes (WH got scolded for not wanting to wear a hat during MIL promo)

In there first concert, Second Invasion, they didn’t enough money for costumes so they only had one change of their pants and had to wear the same black pants over and over again.

In 2017, Hoya left the group because the company didn’t want to give him the freedom to do what he liked. The rest of the members decided to stay on as #INFINITE for INSPIRITs. They released an album but got backlash.

They had to hear criticisms from ‘fans’ who commented what’s the point of 6-membered INFINITE and it’s not the same even as they worked hard to bring us excellent music and perf and give INSPIRITS something to look for ward to while having to adapt to the loss of a member.

He held on with the thought that, “I wasn’t exactly well off originally, it wouldn’t matter if I take on some hardships a little bit more.” It was INFINITE’s L whom he got to know from the drama “Shut Up Flower Boy Band” who lent him a hand. Seeing (Kim Minsuk) who went to audition everywhere without being under any agency, (L) introduced him to his own agency’s CEO. That had turned out to be his destiny, that he really ended up being signed under Woollim Entertainment.

Thank You, Hoya.

As I type this, I am admittedly an ugly mess. I woke up from a nap this evening & I saw an article that came out a few minutes beforehand about Hoya’s contract renewal, saying that he did not go through with it. Groggily, I clicked on it, not thinking much.

I sat wide awake as I read the sentence once, twice, over and over and my mind couldn’t even properly process it. Leaving?? Actually leaving???

Let me back up, as in, a few months before all this unfolded. Infinite was supposed to come back in May, as announced in their third fan-meeting and everything. Sunggyu was having health issues and the comeback naturally got pushed back. Their 7th Anniversary eventually came around, but I kinda felt like it was a quiet celebration. There were a few SNS posts, but no annual live broadcast, apparently due to issues with gathering all the members in one place. (When they said this, I thought to myself, ‘This is their SEVENTH anniversary, but they can’t even get together just for that???’ *sad but also equally confused face*). Their contracts came to an end, but there was no official word of their next steps for quite a while. In the middle, we got a little announcement that discussions were still going on and that they were all headed in a positive direction. Weeks trickled past. It was rumored that all re-signed except for one member, supposedly L, but that was just a false report. Three excruciating months later, it is revealed that everyone but Hoya renewed their contract with Woollim Ent. And then the next day, they announced his departure from the company, and the group completely.

I honestly did not see it coming. Throughout these three anxiety-filled months, I kept preparing myself for the worst, which was presumably an official disbandment. But never in the slightest could I imagine a falling apart. A break up?? The loss of a piece that makes them whole? Not hiatus, not disbandment, not separate ways, but the genuine departure of a member. An entire member. I just……….. of all groups to ever pull this off (and we all know that plenty of 2nd gen. groups have been through this, GG, Teen Top, Beast, 2NE1, Apink, Girls’ Day, etc.) INFINITE was one to follow this….. “trend”. This wretched trail of pain that way too many groups have crossed several times.

Before I go into how I feel overall, I just want to make it clear that of course, I will still support Infinite as 6 members, and Hoya in his personal endeavors unconditionally, no matter what. I’ve literally been following them for over 6 frking years now, how could I just abandon any of them like that? No, lol, I’m in way too deep, y’all. So yes, I will never ever ever everrrrrrrrrr bash or disrespect their decisions in any way. I will, of course, wholeheartedly accept this with open arms because that is what true fans do. And if anything, considering that this is what we’ve come to after THREE entire months, doesn’t that just further prove to us how hard this probably was for the members, and staff, and just everyone else collectively? Clearly, a lot of thought went into this. This wasn’t impulsive. This is for the better, and I will fully respect that.

HOWEVER, I am, after all, a fking diehard Inspirit and these boys have literally defined my years as I’ve matured into an adult. They’ve been with me through thick and thin, and as I like to say, my “part-time lifeline”. Even though I almost basically despise current kpop (I will say this several times, but 2nd gen. kpop is dead & gone and that’s something I will mourn for a while), Infinite has always been there. They are my Day 1′s, and as time went on, even when I got extremely busy w/ junior & senior year of high school, I still tried my best to keep up with them, support them, and just honestly, thank them. For being there. Because even as all these years passed before my eyes, they were still here, ALL 7 of them, still occasionally coming back with music for fans, still being Infinite. Just being Infinite. And I was (and still am) so eternally thankful for that. I watched groups lose members, go on hiatuses, or completely fall apart left and right, but Infinite promised us time and time again that they would be there no matter what. I can’t say this enough, but seriously, from the bottom of my heart, when I had time to just reflect on the years, I was just so so so so overwhelmingly thankful for them.

And so 1 member leaving was just……. it broke me to pieces. I was utterly, completely devastated. Because it was simply a reality I never saw coming. One I never wanted to believe in. I wanted to keep believing that they would continue on as seven for as long their hearts could desire, just as they’ve been doing for all these years. That they’d surpass Shinhwa, and be the longest-lasting boy group to exist, unchanged since debut. That they are family, brothers for life, that they would never separate in such a way. Not to say that they aren’t family anymore. But that their bond of trust would transcend any notions of breaking apart.

But really. It’s okay. Nothing lasts forever, and I know that very well. All good things must come to an end. And that is what I’ve had the most trouble dealing with ever since I read that sentence. This is the end of an era for the boys. This marks a new journey where nothing will be the same as it was before, for better or for worse, who knows yet. But we all have to say goodbye to the Infinite that existed before today. And that’s what’s really hard for me. That’s what has got me looking like an ugly sobbing mess for a good 8 hours today LOL. Because it’s really hard for me to say farewell so suddenly. But the storm will pass, with time.

And with that, I want to once again, thank Infinite, thank Hoya, thank the world for letting these boys shine brightly for the past 7 years, and to hopefully continue to shine even brighter for years to come. Thank you so much Hoya, for being such a pillar (—holy fck hold up, I never thought I’d be typing these words and now im a mess again, great) within Infinite.

Thank you for being the iconic dancing machine within Infinite.

Thank you for not only rapping impressively, but singing stunningly as well.

Thank you for venturing into the acting scene & pulling off amazing characters like in Reply 1997, Mask, My Lovely Girl, Radiant Office, and more.

Thank you for being a complete bora-dori.

Thank you for constantly expressing your passion for hip hop (remember when he talked about when he was younger, he even wished he was black??? AHAHAH good times :’)), whether it was through Infinite H, self-composed raps/songs, or your personal Youtube channel.

Thank you for gifting us with your iconic bitch face. (This might honeslty be the biggest thing I miss LOL jk jk ily hoya adjakfjlkf i cant rn)

BIOGRAFIA: Se Bae Mirae fosse falar de seu filho, teria uma lista de adjetivos; adjetivos negativos, é claro. Fruto de um caso de uma noite, nem mesmo a médica sabia quem era o pai do garoto, muito menos ele saberia. Ao confrontar o filho sobre suas histórias mirabolantes ― que, de alguma forma funcionavam bem até demais para iludir garotas ― Mirae teve uma surpresa: ele não só negou que estava mentindo, como também disse que o próprio Apolo tinha se apresentado pessoalmente à ele. Farta, a mais velha jurou que o trancaria em um hospital psiquiátrico se não abandonasse de vez a insistência em algo tão improvável; sim, ela tentou, mas de alguma forma o rapaz conseguiu provar sua sanidade em cada visita que realizou ao hospital. Foi em uma dessas visitas que algo extraordinário aconteceu: feixes de luz passavam pela porta de um dos quartos, que ao ser aberta revelou ― por um curto período de tempo ― uma menina brilhante. Literalmente, a luz estava saindo do corpo dela! Aquela deveria ser outra filha de Apolo.

Não foi isso que convenceu Mirae, mas sim o que aconteceu depois. Mãe e filho estavam a caminho de casa quando uma espécie de serpente gigante, com a parte superior de uma mulher se jogou no veículo conduzido pela médica, arrancando a porta traseira. O alvo era claro: Junwoo. Nesse momento, uma figura tão brilhante quanto o Sol apareceu, partindo a criatura ao meio sem dificuldade. Aquele era Apolo, decidido a levar o filho pessoalmente ao Instituto que garantiria sua segurança.

HABILIDADES: 01. Voz Encantada: Por ser filho do Deus da música, o filho de Apolo nasce com o dom da voz encantada, sendo um dos mais poderosos da mitologia grega no quesito de música. Tudo que o mesmo falar, parecerá doce e suave, conseguindo mentir facilmente e convencer até mesmo semideuses com resistência mental a lhe fazer favores. O filho de Apolo pode ainda utilizar de sua voz para amaldiçoar uma pessoa ou um lugar.

02. Lira de Orfeu: Consegue invocar uma lira dourada, a qual instintivamente já sabe tocar. Cada nota na lira tem um efeito: A nota Dó reduz a agilidade do oponente, deixando os movimentos lentos como os de uma lesma. A nota Ré coloca o adversário em sono profundo. A nota Mi tem o poder de amaldiçoar o adversário, retirando dele qualquer tipo de imunidade. A nota Fá provoca o aumento da temperatura sentida pelo oponente, causando sintomas parecidos com desidratação. Ao tocar a nota Sol, o semideus induz ao adversário a dor que o alvo considera ser pior, podendo ser a dor de um osso quebrado, de uma doença ou até mesmo a dor da morte de um ente querido. A lira ao ser destruída consegue se reconstruir e além disso, ela tem uma propriedade mágica que faz com que o som da mesma se propague em qualquer local, inclusive o vácuo e embaixo da água, sendo capaz de levar o oponente à loucura. É eficaz contra semideuses, criaturas e até monstros mitológicos.

03. Pirocinese: Possui a capacidade de criar fogo a partir de qualquer parte de seu corpo e controlá-lo, podendo gerar pequenas bolas de fogo, disparar chamas em formas de projéteis e rajadas, assim como criar barreiras para defesa e revestir partes do próprio corpo. As chamas geradas pelo semideus não podem ser extinguidas por vento, água ou gelo, se apagando somente no caso do usuário perder a consciência ou de seu próprio desejo.

04. Supernova: O corpo se eleva a uma temperatura altíssima, mesmo que não se equipare ao Sol. Esta temperatura é tão alta, que mesmo um aperto de mão é capaz de gerar danos e causar queimaduras dolorosas no oponente. Seu corpo é a arma para o combate, devido a grande quantidade de calor emanada.

05. Tempestade Solar: A prole de Apolo é capaz de fazer raios de fogo solar caírem do céu na direção de seu oponente, que ao atingirem a vítima ou se chocarem contra o chão, enviam explosões de calor como em uma tempestade solar, podendo destruir grandes áreas.

06. Toque de Cura: Através do toque, a prole de Apolo é capaz de curar quaisquer enfermidades ou ferimentos em si própria e/ou aliados, até os mais profundos. No entanto, é incapaz de regenerar membros perdidos, promovendo apenas a cicatrização nesse caso, assim como também não possui a habilidade de trazer alguém de volta à vida se for uma lesão fatal.

07. Clarividência: A habilidade permite que o semideus visualize o futuro próximo em imagens ao mentalizar o que deseja saber, podendo prever os ataques do oponente quando em uma luta e desse modo, evitá-los.

08. Forma de Anjo: Apolo muitas vezes fora confundido com o anjo Gabriel, devido a isso o filho de Apolo ganha asas, que são produzidas a partir de luz, podendo ser usadas para o vôo e defesa de outros ataques. As asas tem ainda, a capacidade de enviar penas em forma de luz para alvejar o adversário.

09. Fotocinese: Pode criar, moldar e manipular a luz visível, podendo produzir desde correntes para aprisionar os adversários, até escudos, barreiras, pontes e armas. Entretanto, por serem produtos de luz, se desgastam com o passar do tempo.

10. Encantador de Serpentes: O semideus é capaz de controlar qualquer cobra venenosa ou não, fazendo com que as serpentes ataquem seus adversários. Pode inclusive invocar a gigantesca Píton e controlá-la como quiser.

Favourite Kpop song: Currently, MIC Drop (tbh I didn't think I would like it when I first heard it. Then the live performance blew me away!!!)

Favourite Kpop ship: Kookmin (if one can’t tell from my blog name ><) and in the past, Yunjae. (if you don’t know why I said in the past you might want to look up the history of TVXQ)

Hard stan/soft stan: Can I just say how do you choose to be either one when it comes to Park Jimin? I mean you can literally coo at him for a second, and the next you’re like Park Fucking Jimin, wtf!?!?

Favourite Kpop company: If I really had to choose, Bighit (despite the fact some people seem to think that Bighit overworks the boys, the number of times Jin praises Bighit for letting him eat as much as he wants is all I need for confirmation)

Back story of how you got into Kpop: Well, my television was playing one asia award show wayyyyy back when TVXQ had their freaking Tri-angle hairstyle. Granted, I didn’t pay much attention back then but I have no idea how I suddenly got into TVXQ a couple of years later and there we go. Remained a Cassie for a long time while watching other groups like Shinee, BEAST (back then), 2PM, ZE:A, Infinite, BTOB, GOT7 (quite superficially I guess) (and I'm leaving out girl groups coz while I do listen to their music I rarely watch their variety shows etc) and going towards Jpop (Johnny’s Ent boys and Exile Tribe if you call the latter jpop) until BTS hit me like a bullet train!
