My Demon (2023/24, South Korea)

Mini-review:

Look, I'm not gonna lie. I started this drama for a very superficial reason: Kim Yoo Jung and Song Kang are one of the most gorgeous couples I've ever seen. And tbh, that's one of the things that kept me watching until the end. The first half was pretty fun, thanks to their will-they-won't-they dynamic and some really funny supporting characters and recurring gags. Unfortunately, it began to drag around the middle part, and then it got more and more boring with each passing episode. By the time the final episode came out, I no longer cared about the plot, the characters or anything else (although the ending itself was quite nice). With all that in mind, I can't help but think My Demon would have worked much better as a movie.

How dare the Hong sisters make most of the episode cute and happy and then pull that cliffhanger ending 😭😭 how do they expect us to wait till December 😭😭. How is the crown prince not sus of jinmu he was literally sus of anyone in the beginning. how is naksu gonna clear her name and what is jang uk gonna do after he finds out that all of this was shitmu's work. I have so many questions

Anyways the cast did such a good job I hope they got enough rest for s2

It was so good to see Alchemy of souls again.

Some things I didn't appreciate in this ep -

A) Uk just randomly accepting and drinking something a random stranger offered him... like wtf, this guy is always cautious about others intentions and he does that? The Uk we know would have questioned the guy's intentions even before holding that jug/bottle.

B) F3 choosing not to tell Park Jin about So-i being Buyeon. Sure Songrim and Jinyowon haven't been on good terms lately but Park Jin knows when to not reveal his card. He might not be great at personal relations but there's a reason, that's been shown in the show several times mind you, that he is an amazing leader for Songrim and can join the impromptu F3 antics if it makes sure that Songrim benefits from it.

Things that I appreciated -

A) the funny moment when Mudeok is interrogating Yul. He did actually look scared and I was impressed by Hwang Minhyun in the scene.

B) Badass Park Jin moment when he stops people from taking the ice stone out of Songrim. Sure upon discussion there might be other better ways to resolve it but this guy was being challenged by every powerful party in the country and given Jin mu's brisk actions he didn't know what all would happen in a short time and what it would mean for Songrim. I especially appreciate it as I was also tensed to see Songrim surrounded on all sides and wasn't expecting him to go all out like that. The high stakes gave a good adrenaline rush.

C) Jang Uk and crown prince sharing info. Every time that I am concerned that there might be a small issue where the crown prince might with his family on, he proves us wrong and shows us how good of a leader he can be. It was also good to see him ponder upon the power of the ice stone. He seems to really wonder if eternity and youth would really be such good things.

BBL- BOYS' LOVE LITE:

Welcome to BOYS' LOVE LITE...I'll explain. This is series and or movies that have BOYS' LOVE STORY OR ARC but the series itself is not a BL series. Or perhaps BROMANCE depending on how you look at it.

BL LITE: (BOYS' LOVE LITE)

Series: LOVE WITH FLAWS (2019, SOUTH KOREA)

This series for me was just okay. I didn't hate it and I didn't love it at least not for its main story. But what I did love is the BOYS' LOVE LITE story featuring the main characters older brother Joo Won Suk (played by the late CHA IN HA in his final role) and the shy awkward sweet college student Choi Ho Dol (played by the magnificent JANG YOO SANG)

Here after Joo Won Suk (an openly gay character) deposits his drunk half sister in a taxi and turns to go back to the gay bar where he works as a bartender. He sees the nervous in the closet Choi Ho Dol consider going into the gay bar.

His first attempt FAILED due to nerves and people suddenly exiting the bar. All the while Won Suk observes from across the street.

Hol Do tries again but still can't do it.

Finally he opts not to go in...at least not yet.

GOT MARRIED - YOO JIMIN; KARINA

2, Uncooked Sunnyside

There are still a few days before We Got Married is filmed. Giselle and Winter had became friends with Jang Y/N behind Karina's back.

At first, they kept it hidden, and the two even invited Y/N to visit them at their dorm.

Obviously for the show.

Becoming friends with the leader of Aespa was a struggle for Y/N.

Everyone woke up at some point around nine in the morning. They had their shower and were getting ready for breakfast.

Y/N was driven to Aespa's dorm by her staff, and she was text messaging with Giselle about how thrilled she is.

She arrived there and was instructed by Giselle to ascend to a specific floor.

While in Aespa's dorm...

Karina cracked an egg into the frying pan, which had not yet been heated. While, Ningning sat on the chair, wide-eyed, as the girls prepared their breakfast.

Poor maknae had only just awoken. Certainly loading her system, eh?

She went over to the refrigerator to get what she needed for her breakfast.

Winter was holding her phone, presumably watching YouTube while sipping her coffee.

Giselle, our girl, is continuously typing on her phone.

The leader groaned, "Urgh!" and everyone turned to face her.

She received the enquiring look.

"I was supposed to crack the egg in the bowl," she told them all, an unhappy smile on her fresh morning face.

Winter sighed and rolled her eyes. "Pour it into a bowl, unnie," the vocalist suggested, a faint smile on his face.

Ningning appeared to have finished loading up her system because she now had a brighter appearance.

The maknae opened the fridge in search of anything else to eat. While Karina poured the egg from the pan into a bowl.

She thought to herself as she looked at the egg, "Omelette or no omelette?" she pondered.

Their favourite music is being played loudly by Winter on her iPhone.

Red Flavor by Red Velvet.

Giselle simply mumbled to it, swaying a bit, while the rest of them danced and sang along.

Giselle was informed by Y/N that she was now at the door and she stood up silently, but before heading to the door, she gave Winter a signal regarding Y/N's arrival at their place.

The rapper unlocked the door, which revealed her senior idol friend, who was only a few months old.

Although there isn't a huge age difference. Y/N, on the other hand, was the same age as Karina and Giselle.

Karina is a few months older than them both.

Perhaps this was one of the factors in their quick friendship.

"Yo bro!" Giselle grinned and quickly returned to her old ABG demeanour.

"Ssup girl!" Y/N fist bumped the girl, who reciprocated the ABG demeanour.

"Please come in!" She invited Y/N and welcomed her with a pat on the shoulder.

Meanwhile in the kitchen, Karina poured the egg back into the pan and decided to make a sunny side up egg.

She put another one in.

I'm referring to the eggs.

However, Y/N's first instinct was to approach Karina directly.

That's too bad.

Karina was dancing while toting the cooking pan while listening to Red Flavor, with Ningning's small antics and powerful vocals joining her.

Y/N approached her, she shouted, "Hey-" in greeting.

When Karina fell down while carrying the pan, everything slowed down.

She was unaware that Y/N was in their house, so when she heard the girl calling out to her, she hopped out of her skin.

Everyone was witnessing the unbelievable tragedy as the uncooked eggs came flying out of the pan.

Giselle was attempting to dash to them in slow motion as Winter's jaw dropped.

Ningning with her trademark memeable expression and broadening eyes.

It's slow motion. I'll remind you.

Karina was clutching the pan and covered her mouth with one hand.

Slow motion.

When she saw the raw eggs that would soon fall on her face, Y/N's eyes widened as well.

Everything returned to normal as their reactions occurred at breakneck speed, and the eggs eventually fell on Y/N's face.

A visit to Aespa's dorm turned chaotic, especially with a flying breakfast.

Fortunately, it hasn't yet been swimming in the pan, just a couple of eggs chilling inside the metal pan.

When the tragedy occurred, Y/N's face was still fixed on the ceiling and she had egg on her face, hair, and clothes.

Gi said, "Your breakfast is Y/N," out of the blue.

Although that sounds a little strange, it is the typical Giselle.

"Straight from a movie" Ningning whispered loud enough.

There was a lengthy period of silence in the dorm, but you could hear the ceiling fan cheerfully spinning.

While she waited for the girls to bring her something to change into, Y/N was zoning out on their couch.

She had just finished washing her face and hair as Giselle and Ningning searched for shirts for the idol to wear.

Which took a while because the two seemed to be debating what she ought to wear.

When Karina approached, Y/N looked up and grinned.

"Tell me," Karina began, pointing a spoon in Y/N's direction.

The girl then took a slight step back and asked, "Tell you what, Yoo Jimin?" with a raised brow.

She sighed and rolled her eyes. "What are you doing here and shiting my breakfast?" At the end, her voice was slightly raised.

The Aespa main dancer grumbled about her flying breakfast, which flew right into Y/N's face.

Y/N raises her gaze to the opposite girl. "A friendly visit and breakfast was your fault!" the vocalist clarified.

Yoo Jimin scoffed, "Haa, yes yes," and refused to elaborate further.

She sat on the arm of the couch next to Y/N, her gaze fixed on the ceiling while Y/N's was drawn to the girl's figure.

Y/N poked the girl's thigh randomly, and Karina looked at her with a puzzled expression.

"Why?" a little voice popped forth.

The future 'wife' smirked, "Nothing, you're an interesting woman," Y/N said honestly.

Karina was flabbergasted by the unexpected compliment from the woman she hardly knows and interacts with.

She inhaled and cleared her throat. "Well, whatever you say," she mumbled in response.

Her gaze darted elsewhere, trying to keep her cool lest she break character; making an effort to maintain her composure.

Giselle came out of the room and said, "Hey, this is a hoodie for you," handing the girl a grey hoodie.

When the leader yanked the hoodie out of Giselle's hands, she said, "This is mine!" as she studied over the details.

"Oops!" Giselle grabbed Y/N by the arm as she grabbed the hoodie back from the leader.

Karina was completely astounded by what Giselle had done and remained still.

She handed the hoodie over to Y/N. "This is good for us, believe me!" she exclaimed to her leader.

Giselle pushed Y/N into her room and shut the door. "Lock it, my friend!" she yelled mildly.

Karina faced Giselle with her arms folded. "Why?" she inquired out of pure curiosity, her eyes wide.

Giselle swiftly put her arm around the girl's shoulder, saying, "Me and the girls decided it'd be nice for her to wear your hoodie" she tried to convince the leader.

The older girl's face has been scrunched up. "For starters, it's for each other's clout," says another.

Winter approached them. "It's also a good reason to be really close," she added to the reasoning.

Ningning also entered, saying, "But WGM was ended because they toyed with idols' feelings" she left a convincing justification for why WGM was cancelled.

The moment Y/N unlocked the door, all the girls' eyes turned to her.

Ningning greeted her new friend with a "Hello" and a toothless smile.

Karina was also fixated on Y/N, and she gets a wonderful feeling in her chest when she sees Y/N dressed in her hoodie.

Due to the panic and a brief sense of fulfillment, she turned her attention away from Y/N'a appearance.

Giselle and Winter walked to Y/N together, presenting Y/N in Karina's hoodie.

"Tadaa! This is Y/N!" Winter declared this in English.

"Take a picture!" Ningning exclaimed as she pushed Karina to stand next to the idol.

As the other girls moved away, the maknae took out her phone to see how the photo turned out.

"Smile unnie!" Winter cutely pouted.

She found the maknae line's charm impossible to resist.

She sighed, moved in closer proximity to Y/N, and struck a pose.

Y/N gave the camera a thumbs up as the girl posed with a peace sign over Y/N's head.

Therefore, the year's awkwardest selfie.

It's kind of amusing that the girls are aware of the awkwardness between the two of them but still proceed with the photo.

"YES!" exclaimed those three as they performed small jumps.

Ningning then sent the picture to their group chat so that everyone could see it.

Y/N sighed and grinned as she watched their antics. She said, "Well," with a sigh.

Winter approached Y/N and grabbed the young woman by the arm, inviting her to join them for breakfast.

In a baby voice, she said that.

For the sake of the show, they all invited their sister-in-law or something similar to have some meals.

In the kitchen...

Karina was devouring the Sunnyside eggs together with her kimchi fried rice, but her mouth would drop after each bite.

It dropped from the shock, actually.

Both shock that Y/N offered to assist in making their breakfast and shock that it tastes delicious.

Y/N was standing to set the plates of cooked meals on the table.

Jimin didn't say a word as she sat on the chair with her spoon up and only stared at Jang Y/N.

"Can you remind me why you're here again?"

Karina's first question was in response to tasting Y/N's food.

Her gaze was drawn to Karina. "To get to know you, bonding," she responded, clearing her throat and as she sat down next to her.

Giselle sat down after setting the bowl on the table, "Relax, bestie" she assured calmly in English.

Ningning enthusiastically nodded, "So true!" she agreed with Giselle and gave Karina a thumbs up.

Winter was the second person to respond, but she did so with her mouth full and wanted to speak as well.

She gulped her food. "At least it won't be stupidly awkward in the show later, like the photo," mentioned the recently taken awkward photo.

After the sarcastic remark, the pair felt a little embarrassed.

Karina exhaled a long sigh and nodded appropriately.

It's true what the girls said—a person's initial impression is crucial.

"I'm going to leave after the meal" Y/N said, clearing her throat.

After the meal, they all cleaned the table with Giselle and Ningning offering to handle the dishes.

In addition, Giselle instructed Karina to lead Y/N out of their dorm.

Karina didn't raise many objections because she was attempting to maintain control of the situation and was gradually coming to terms with the nature of this TV show.

They entered the elevator together. "Were you offended that night?" the Aespa leader thought back to the evening Y/N had left her on read.

She glanced at Karina for a split second and grinned at her.

"Nah," she shook her head in response.

Karina scrunched her forehead. "What do you mean?" she questioned inquisitively.

The person on the other side sneered, "Nothing, I just wanted to do that" which she admitted.

She said, "Be my playmate Karina, I enjoy tormenting people and I just found the right one for me to play along with" a dangerously teasing smirk grew.

She groaned sternly. "What exactly does it mean?!" she pondered gravely.

As the door opened, the elevator descended, and the couple exited to stand next to the receptionist.

Karina was confronted by Y/N. "Anything but bad, don't worry" the girl reassured the older woman.

Karina's eyes are filled with wonder. "Text me about it tonight" she demanded.

"See you, wife!" Y/N said softly as she began to walk away.

Karina cringed a little at the name, her face changing at the sound of it as the girl flirted a tiny bit.
