MY DEMON
GENRES: Supernatural, Romance
SUMMARY: A cold-hearted Demon remembers what it’s like to be human after falling in love with the one who stole his powers.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Supportive PR employees, diabolical chaebols, powerful skinship, sham marriages, best friend butlers, sword dancing, Joseon flashbacks, tattoos, cropped suit jackets, cakes, clocks, disguised deities, full moon transformations, and the joy of just letting go and listening to your heart.
HOT TAKE: I didn't really love the start of this show, but its themes of loss and love really pulled on my heartstrings throughout. I didn't really love the ending either, but hey, its a love story and you get what you get. I will say though, Song Kang and Kim Yoo Jung win the award for 'Couple with the Smoothest Skin I've Ever Seen in a Kdrama.'

Ok but he's literally such a good actor because this mf legit scared me. The way he changed faces so fast from the cold deadpan expression to the creepy psychotic smile. I got goosebumps

My Demon
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2024
My Demon (2023/24, South Korea)
Director: Kim Jang Han
Writer: Choi Ah Il
Mini-review:
Look, I'm not gonna lie. I started this drama for a very superficial reason: Kim Yoo Jung and Song Kang are one of the most gorgeous couples I've ever seen. And tbh, that's one of the things that kept me watching until the end. The first half was pretty fun, thanks to their will-they-won't-they dynamic and some really funny supporting characters and recurring gags. Unfortunately, it began to drag around the middle part, and then it got more and more boring with each passing episode. By the time the final episode came out, I no longer cared about the plot, the characters or anything else (although the ending itself was quite nice). With all that in mind, I can't help but think My Demon would have worked much better as a movie.

I couldn't find a comprehensive whump list for this drama besides a couple things in the whumpapedia so I decided to make this. I plan to make more in the future but I'm not entirely sure how often. I hope you enjoy!
Review of drama:
Unrealistic whump. I was disappointed in how the character got shot and a few minutes later, was unfazed and completely fine. Other than that, definitely a great drama. Worth watching for the plot. They also said that they had no identities in the government and the police force, so it bothered me that it was so easy for the villains to find their info. The main character was always really quiet but most of the time it felt like there should've been some dialogue there or that he wanted to say something but didn't. His lines are pretty unimportant overall so it was a bit odd. Gun woo is so cold to most of the other characters but towards Tae-In, he's all soft and caring and he shows it. I love it but also like branch out, show people you care about them because otherwise you're just going to regret it. Like, we all know he cares about them, he just cannot manage to show them for some reason. I read some other reviews and realized that it was just bad acting on Kim Beom's part. Hopefully, his other work will be worth it.

There's this new show that I am watching called Shadow Detective cuz strangers on Twitter were calling them Older jdws and truly, sometimes they really are. There's one moment where it's like the Devil Judge scene and right after, the scene is shot in a very prominent tDJ location.
The show is really enjoyable. It's suspenseful but also funny. It's on Disney+ (Hotstar). Do check it out if you can~

Link to the original thread that made me watch it: x
Also, the Older Detective sort of adopts his former young suspect. Even though the kid was accused of a crime by him (along with other detectives), he decides to stay close to this Detective because he feels safe with him. They're very cute and have a wholesome relationship.
And, the ahjussi can get it

Kim Jin Tae has numerous affairs with women while Do Ae Ran dedicates herself to her work. Although she used to be a bright and energetic person, she now mostly keeps to herself and carries an air of melancholy around her.
Kim Jin Tae’s father dies suddenly. At the funeral, Jin Tae catches a glimpse of his estranged half-brother, Yoon Je Ha (Jang Seung Jo). Yoon Je Ha and his mother have had a complicated relation with his father and he doesn’t dare to come to close, for fear of being confronted by JIn Tae’s mother.
After their father is laid to rest, Jin Tae and Je Ha meet. Jin Tae then proposes a job to Je Ha, who is direly in need of money.
Yoon Je Ha comes to Do Ae Ran’s restaurant under the identity of Jin Tae’s younger friend. Ae Ran accepts to give him a chance as a cook and observes him attentively.
Yoon Je Ha is a bit dark, a bit mysterious, and a bit soft. He reminds Ae Ran of days spent under a warm blanket while the rain pours endlessly. She comes to appreciate his presence and the comfort he brings into her life.
As they grow closer, Ae Ran realises that she is attracted to him. She ignores that Je Ha was paid by her husband to seduce her so he could get a divorce.
Meanwhile, Je Ha has fallen in love with his sister-in-law and becomes less and less inclined to follow his domineering half-brother’s plan.

The Guardians. 9
Story: 9
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Leverage (pick a country version) ; Healer (kdrama) Mad Dog (kdrama) ; Taxi Driver (kdrama)
So this drama has a lot going on for me so I might be a tad bias to it. Not only does it have a great storyline that is a cross between ‘Leverage’ and ‘Healer’ which are also two very must see shows, but the cast is just 👌👌👌 I usually love everything that Kim Young Kwang is in (❤️) and I may be a -ahem- a Shawol so seeing Key just top everything over into overdrive. But seriously though the storyline aside is just well….awesome, plainly put. Tits one of those that keeps you on the edge of your seat type of dramas.

Moving
Moving went from:
A high school drama
to superheroes
to spy thriller
to bromance
to slow burn romance
to Kill Bill level action gore
to slice of life showing the most heartwarming moments between the adults and kids,
to the ultimate enemy stand-off,
to tragic backstories of the so called villains,
to found family
to much needed family reunions!
Moving aced all genres and emotions!
Moving has reshuffled my entire all time favourite Kdrama list - Kingdom stays at the Top, Moving comes second, followed by Hot Stove League and Reply 1988.
I have so much to write , so much to unpack - I’m rewatching it and will keep posting my thoughts!
I so love this drama and every single member of the cast! Everyone nailed the role they were given - big or small!

MOVING
GENRES: Sci-Fi, Drama
SUMMARY: A handful of superhuman parents refuse to keep working for the government and instead lay low to protect something more precious than national security: their children.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Superheroes on stage, skipping class, bullying, black ops, fried chicken, ceiling nets, college entrance exams, tonkatsu, young love, getting lost, 404 computer errors, city bus chases, justice, North Korean terrorism, revenge, bullet souvenirs, and parental monsters.
HOT TAKE: I. Loved. This. Show. There, I said it. I have so much to say about this show I can't possibly fit it all in this pithy review. I laughed, I cried, I gasped. I fell in love with these characters immediately, I rooted for them, and felt their pain when they faced personal defeat.
This show is honestly for everyone. It's got slice of life high school drama, adorable romance, sci-fi superpowers, government corruption, well-staged action [Trigger Warning: there's a lot of blood, wounds, and flesh-squelching sounds along with the action scenes], and a little bit of mystery to tie the whole package together. And I would totally sit through Zo In Sung in several 'John Wick' style movies without batting an eye.
WATCH THIS SHOW.
