Dirty Paws - Chapter 17
We're getting in AAI2 everyone!
@wardencommanderrodimiss @pachelbelsheadcanon
--
Larry leans against the wall to catch his breath, looking out at the crowd that has finally abandoned his stand and lets out a huge sigh.
“You’re doing this for Sissel.”
“Fuck you.” Larry tells Shi-Long without venom, “I know I told you to remind me of that but fuck you.”
“I could have helped you clean this place out-”
“You have a bad leg and helped me move a couch!” Larry whirls on him, where Shi-Long sits in the back of the stand, legs propped up and undoubtedly reading fanfic on his phone, keeping him company. “and it wasn’t that hard just…”
“You’d moved, gotten a cat, and been accused of murder in the two weeks before it?” Shi-Long offers and Larry rolls his eyes.
“Life goes on. And trust me, tax collectors do not care how bad your life’s been, so I need this to make money.” Larry reaches up to run a hand through his hair, “at least until…” He pauses, words dying on his tongue and chest getting tight.
“Until?”
Larry swallows hard, “until I get published.” That makes Shi-Long lower his phone, to look over at him, eyes softening.
“You’re a fantastic writer Stripes. Elise thought so too.”
He nods jerkily, because there’s not a lot, he can say to that, other than that the thought of getting published hurts. He’d given her agent the okay to publish the book they’d been working on, but he hadn’t heard back about that yet. Takes time. He knows they’ll want him for that, he wishes he had Elise here for that, to guide him through his first press tour.
But he’s on his own now.
He closes the window a moment, to come sit by Shi-Long, who immediately leans into him, Larry takes the comfort as best he can when they’re both crammed into his small hot dog stand, trying to sell hot dogs, and just get through today.
Larry looks over to Shi-Long’s phone, “Are you rereading my fic?”
“It’s good.”
Larry manages a smile at that at least, brief but manages one. The fanfic is at least easy to write, the words coming easy, when the mere thought of his own original story makes all creativity stop. When all he can think about when he goes to write is the support he no longer has.
They sit in silence a bit, Shi-Long pulls up what looks like a news video of the press conference happening in the park, but the scrawl is in a language Larry can’t place. He squints at it and then asks, “Shi-Long?”
“Yeah writer-boy?”
“Where are you from?”
He gets a warm chuckle in response, sharp eyes flickering to him, “Oh?”
“I… you sent me a message once, in a different language, and I think it’s the same language as that, and I’m a dumbass American, so I don’t know what language it is, so…”
Shi-Long is silent for a moment before he sighs, “I’m Zheng Faian.” At Larry’s blank look he explains, “the Republic of Zheng Fa.” He nods to his phone, “that’s our president speaking.” Something flickers on his face, and Larry thinks that if he asks, Shi-Long would tell him.
He thinks Shi-Long doesn’t want him to ask.
So, he just nods, and trusts that Lang will tell him when he’s ready. He returns to running his hot dog stand.
He pauses, and slowly leans out the window, “hey.”
“Hey what?”
“Didn’t we have more balloons?!? I think someone stole one!”
--
It was clear that Wolf was done talking about his past, and he turned the question on him. “What about you? I remember you and Firebirdstorm explaining the Clan thing to me when we were younger, but what is SpiritClan’s story?”
Orangestripe paused, his mouth parted slightly, “I… I don’t know. The older cats in the Clan just sort of act like we’ve always lived here, but there was…” he stirred the dirt with his paw, “the war with Spark. And Spiritstar’s aunt… There were things that happened that no one wants to talk about and I don’t know why.”
Wolf sighed out his nose and looked off, towards where SpiritClan’s camp lay, “perhaps you should ask your Clanmates. It sounds like these are things you should know.”
Orangestripe sighed himself and nodded. “I think I know who to ask too.”
--
“Is this a dig about me asking you for your Clan’s lore?” Shi-Long is laughing though and Larry grins at him, leaning against the counter, no one has come up for hot dogs in a good twenty minutes, so Larry’s been writing on his phone but passed it to Shi-Long to charge it since the battery started getting low.
So of course, he reads it, and now they’re teasing and Larry’s chest feels lighter than it has in a bit. “And I thought of this really cool idea for why the Clan uses the name spirit a lot, and why despite living in the middle of nowhere with no other Clans around they have the Warrior Code!”
Shi-Long arches a brow and grins, “well, I look forward to reading it.”
Larry shoves off the counter to go get a bucket and wipe things down, something to do to pass the time. At least he’s made a decent amount of money today, which will pay his and Sissel’s bills. He doesn’t want to ask Shi-Long or Edgeworth for help.
Not yet. He’s got his savings and shit, he’ll be alright, so long as he isn’t stupid about not working or something like that.
Shame writing fanfic doesn’t pay the bills.
Larry’s mentally trying to figure out of there’s a way to get a Patreon set up without violating Ao3’s ToS and probably scrubbed the same spot for the past minute when he hears a firework go off.
The next thing he knows he’s on the floor, a heavy and warm body pressed against him, Shi-Long’s face twisted into a snarl, the hand that’s not holding him off Larry down at his belt. At his gun, Larry’s brain helpfully provides, as he registers that he’s lost the American game of Gunshot or Firework, but also that Shi-Long is pressed against him.
He goes still under Shi-Long, neither of them moving before he breathes out and relaxes, “fuck.” He turns his head to look to where his phone lays on the floor, “I think that was at the speech.”
Larry should say something, anything really, but he’s still processing that Shi-Long’s immediate response to hearing a gunshot was to shove him to the floor before he blurts out something stupid, as he’s prone to doing. “Wait, so you can get shot but-”
Shi-Long snaps his head back around to stare Larry dead in the eyes, his face inches from Larry’s, “no, Stripes, you are not allowed to get shot.”
Larry stays there for several seconds, even after Shi-Long shoves himself back up to his feet, very smoothly for someone who probably shouldn’t be putting weight on that leg. He’s only pulled out of it when Shi-Long’s hand comes into view.
“Come on,” he pulls him up, “let’s see what the news has to say.”
He’s still a little shaken though and is grateful when Shi-Long doesn’t say anything about how he leans into him to watch the news.
--
“Feathersong?” Orangestripe’s voice was hesitant as he paused at the entrance to the elder’s den, “Feathersong are you there?”
It did not take long to spot his former mentor, she had raised her head from her nest to look up, “oh, Orangestripe. Come to visit, have you?”
He slipped in, shaking his pelt off before he sat down, to curl his tail around his paws, grateful it was just the two of them, “I had a question. Well, several, and I thought you might be… willing to answer.”
The she-cat blinked gently at him, “I will always be happy to mentor you, Orangestripe, what do you want to know?”
He swallowed and spoke, “where did SpiritClan come from? And why did Spark’s group hate us so much, that he would kill Stonespirit and kidnap Sharppaw? So much happened, I don’t- I don’t understand, no one talks about it, but…” He flattened his ears as he saw the trepidation on her face, “please. We’re all living with the consequences of a story we don’t know.”
Feathersong considered his words, and sat up, to wash her fur, “no. You are right, you deserve to know.” She stretched out, Orangestripe shifted to the side so that she could, before she settled in her nest again, “there is so much we have failed to tell you all. We hoped, I suppose, to protect you. To leave it all behind, but… we are named SpiritClan for a reason.”
Orangetripe’s ears pricked up, but he held his tongue, Feathersong got a distant look in her eyes, looking past him to recall this story.
“You see, I was born before SpiritClan, during the first war with Spark.”
-- “The what?”
“Fuck’s sake Shi-Long.” Larry about jumped out of his skin, he was still a bit on edge after the shooting, even if it seemed no one had been injured, so he’d been writing on his phone, it was his hot dog stand, he could take a fifteen minute break to write Warrior Cats fanfic if he wanted, it was his coping mechanism.
He had not expected Lang to lean over his shoulder and read his fic.
“Sorry Stripes, just happened to see ‘the first war with Spark’, what lore are you dropping?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know Wolf-boy?”
Shi-Long flashes his crooked smirk again, and Larry grins back, and he finds he’s less shaky now, “listen, I will let you read it first, but you have to let me write it all so I can hit you with it to make sure it lands right. Sounds cool, and not like an ass pull.”
Shi-Long throws him a thumbs up and sits back down, “that I can do. But I do have a question.”
“Yeah?”
“Who’s Feathersong? Like, if I’m Wolf, and the pretty-boy prosector’s Demon, then…”
Larry shakes his head with a shrug, “she isn’t anyone really. She was just an OC. I might’ve based her a little off a teacher I had, in like, grade school, before I rewrote the damn thing. She’s… I’m making her a bit more like Elise, shit, uh, Misty, these days, because well…” He trails off, but he doesn’t really need to say it. She was his mentor.
Shi-Long gives him a moment and then prompts, “anyone else in there someone I should know?”
Larry is relieved that Shi-Long, even in person, loves to encourage his ramblings, and he claps his hands together, “well, Spiritstar was Mia Fey, a defense attorney, she was… she was really nice and was great for Nick, I- God I don’t want to kill her, man, it feels nice that I can have her here and watching Nick like she should’ve gotten to.” He doesn’t think about Mia, he tries not to at least, to think about how she can summon her sister for Nick but there’s no one to summon her for her. He swallows hard, “And Cherrywing is her sister, and Nick’s other best friend, Maya. Splashpaw’s Maya’s younger cousin.”
“You are going to get sued.”
“I’m not making money off this, get off me.”
Shi-Long barks with laughter at that, and Larry grins, picking up steam, “Darkleaf ended up working out for someone, uh, the guy who murdered Misty.”
“Figured that one.”
“That’s… a story itself, but uh, otherwise, they’re all just OCs for padding out the Clan. I’m attached to a few of them, but otherwise they’re just like Thornclaw, just the guy who’s always on patrol or whatever. They’re not important.”
“Canon.”
Larry grins, and shoves Shi-Long before he gets to his feet to head back to the counter and lean against it, “oh. There’s Stonespirit. That’s based on Edgy’s dad, he…” He pauses and looks at Shi-Long guiltily, “I don’t know that I should tell you that story, that ones more Edgy’s than mine. Just, he died when we were younger and the whole, Spark killed him and adopted his son thing did happen.”
“I do know about Manfred Von Karma.”
“Good.” Larry bites the word out, and sees Shi-Long’s look of approval, agreeing with his bitterness, his protective streak and it’s nice, it’s vindicating, “I am so glad I could write him into a fic and brutally kill him, like, he’s Franziska’s dad and all but fuck him. But yeah, this whole thing started because I was kinda, coping with that, because when you’re nine and your best friend’s dad gets murdered…” he gestures with one hand, “sucks!” It does a lot but he doesn’t have the words nor desire to talk about it, “I’m forgetting someone…” He pauses and tilts his head to think. “Oh. Timber and Bird are two detectives that Edgy knows, they’re good and support him, and it’s a low bar but these days not enough clear it, so yeah, they do their jobs and they’re good. Dapplepaw’s Kay of course.”
“Not Crowpaw?”
“I thought about it, but I was thinking Dappleshade for her? I really liked the sound of it, and she feels like such a tortoiseshell.”
Shi-Long nods as though Larry isn’t saying some of the weirdest things out of context, “and uh, Beetlelight! That’s it.”
“Who’s he? I know he’s shown up once or twice in the fic but…”
Larry pauses, his eyes narrowed, “I… I don’t know, is the thing? I barely remember him in my own fic, honestly but I know he used to be someone. I think he used to be someone? I’m too attached to him to remove him at this point in any case.”
“Do you not have notes?”
“I mean, I do now, but I originally wrote this fic when I was like, twelve. You read the original one, you know it wasn’t great!”
“I liked it.”
Larry gets a stupid grin, and ducks his head, “yeah, well, thanks Wolfman, but it was rough. I’d know, I reread it to rewrite the damn thing. Originally wrote a lot of it in class instead of focusing on learning. There wasn’t a plot, other than the happy ending I wanted.” He waves a hand again, “that Edgy would come back and we’d be the three muskateers again and Nick would…” Larry trails off, he doesn’t want to think about what Nick got like when he thought about Edgy back then. “Honestly, our parents probably shoulda sent us both to therapy, but hey.” He grins at Shi-Long, “I got an international furry out of it so-”
Shi-Long flips him off and Larry pretends to catch it like a kiss, both of them laughing, the tension breaking and easing, and Larry is so, so, glad at least this fantasy played out close to what he’d wanted when he was a kid.
Of getting to meet WolfDragon and getting along.
Their banter is interrupted by Shi-Long’s phone ringing, he grabs it and gets to his feet, “boss calling.” He steps out the back, already answering, and Larry’s chest hurts slightly at the sight of his back.
He doesn’t know when they’re gonna be able to meet up like this again.
He goes back to wiping down the stand, he’s got nothing better to do after all, until Shi-Long gets back. It seems most people have left, probably been herded off to see who could give statements, and then sent home so investigations could proceed.
“Well, hey stranger.”
Larry looks up with a grin, “should I be grateful you’re not just stealing my hot dogs?” Kay grins back at him brightly.
“I am not that kind of thief! I only steal from the corrupt, so that the hidden truth can be brought to light.”
A sentiment Larry knows well, when so much has been hidden by those tasked with seeking justice lately it seems. He knows that’s part of why Nick’s getting the respect he is, when it feels like every day someone else gets caught with forged evidence, an honest lawyer is a rare sight in this city.
“Yeah well, what are you doing here?”
“Buying hot dogs while Edgeworth talks to people, I needed a snack.”
Larry raises his brows, “oh he’s here?” He doesn’t want to go bother him while he’s working, he doesn’t have anything to add, but if he’s working he might appreciate someone checking on him, “sounds like that whole thing is a mess.”
“Yeah, no kidding. And I think they stole one of your balloons…” Kay looked over, and Larry bites back a curse.
“So that’s where the daang thing went.” He sets a hot dog in front of Kay and waves away payment. She’s one of Edgy’s, and a kid. With no other clear parental figure around. He’s not taking money from her.
“Yup. Hope you don’t want it back, it’s evidence. And also got shot. People keep talking about some Gourd Lake monster?”
Larry sets another hot dog down, “ask no more questions.”
Kay’s grin widens and she eager accepts both hot dogs, biting into the first one eagerly, “oh whoa! These are good!”
Larry gives her a dirty look, “my skills aren’t just limited to larping the Steel Samurai you know.” She laughs, and leans against the stand.
“Did you see who nicked your balloon?”
Larry shakes his head, with a grimace, “I have terrible luck with balloons and this stand.” He sees Kay’s eyes light up at the information and hurriedly presses again before he can be pressed on that, “if I’d seen anything I’d let you know but there was a lunch rush, and then basically nothing. I think I saw an ice cream stand at one point, they might’ve seen something since they’re closer but I’m too far away to see anything. I did hear the shot but that’s about it.”
“How many shots did you hear?”
“Just one?” Larry pauses to think about it, “we were watching a stream of the speech too, so I might’ve heard two, or that might’ve been the stream?” He was a bit distracted, since he’d thought it was a firework, and then, you know, been tackled to the floor.
“We?” Kay prompts, standing on her tiptoes to see further into the stand.
Larry pauses, eyes flicking about wildly, “yeah, I have an assistant in here, Edgy isn’t the only one who can get some help you know!”
At that moment, Shi-Long comes back in, “that went better than expected.” He sounded cheerful, as he drops back to his old seat and flips open something on his phone, “but I’m going to be busy the next few days Writer-boy, something else came up.”
Kay’s eyebrows raise at what was clearly Shi-Long Lang’s voice, and her grin widens at writer-boy. She gives Larry a mischievous look, but there was something else to it, like she’s trying to piece something together or tell him something with it.
Larry just silently sets another hot dog on the counter.

i want to get more into saw/saw blogs b4 X comes out - what r some of ur fave saw blogs
Hi! You caught me at a good time (one where I have energy) so let's see if I can pump this out. I am in no way an authority on the entire Saw fandom so I will only be talking about my little corner of the internet. Please forgive me, my beloved followers, mutuals, and other owners of posts I have loved in this very small fandom-because I may forget some of you. The brain fog sometimes gets the best of me and if I did a full complete list, it would be.... It would be so long. This is in no way in order of best or worst, and sometimes I just have no words for why I love a person's blog.
@turnipoddity - Oh, what an artist! Every single post I see, love it. So excited to see an artist acquiring the Saw brainrot.
@bloodcoveredgf - Luna! Also just all around funny & good posts in addition to the Saw insanities.
@dracofelin - Jay has such good writing, and will make you love the ship of Mark Hoffman/Peter Strahm (coffinshipping).
@thefoulbeast - Simply put, Will's art makes me want to bite my own arm off. If you're interested in the video game Pathologic, his blog is worth a follow for that too.
@bathroomtrapped - I sometimes get the honor of previewing Larry's art mid-construction (because with all those colors and layers, it looks like building a house) and even half finished, it blows my socks off <3
@sawtrapz - Kaz, oh Kaz (!!!), Kaz gets my brain clicking about some of the rarepairs of this fandom and I will always spin your boygirl Adam in my head.
@cl0wnb0yyy - Will is just a great person in the fandom, also if you like Midnight Mass or NBC's Hannibal.
@ispyspookymansion - Kora looms large in the Saw fandom in my mind so it would be impossible to assemble this list without him.
@3razyswfangirl / @kiramillet - Kira's pixel art is amazing!!! Bunny <3
@tibby - Take a look through Tibby's saw meta. You won't be disappointed.
@allegedly-writer - Contrary to Jack's url, Jack can sure damn write! He just posted a fic and guess who it's for <3
@hansy-pansy-art - OUGH another amazing amazing artist. Also currently in a Red Dead Redemption moment, which I love.
@piddgeon - Speaking of RDR.... Mercury! Ah, just. (Chef's kiss) of a human being.
@samwis - Jami, who hears all my most insane horny thoughts who is such a mainstay in my corner of Saw fandom.
@romanromulus - Adam writes fics that will make you scream and cry into your pillow at midnight.
@tapeworrmart - Just. Ough. Art that I dream of one day hanging on my wall.
@vanilladella - a.m.'s art is my discord header. Enough said.
@carouselcometh - Remy is hilarious and also you need to read his series on Ao3.
@onehandkilling / @fatmasc - Shlomo... What do I say? Just go. Follow. Also threw in their fat fashion blog because YES!!!
@angel-trapped - Téa, you absolute legend. Origin of angelshipping (to me) (aka Lindsey Perez/Allison Kerry)
@sawtrapx - Liv, such a fun human being!!!
@starlightsailfish - Star's Saw Warrior Cats makes me dance in excitement.
@iinsawdious - Adrien is the best champion of the Adam & David (Saw 0.5) & Specs (Character from the Insidious franchise, also played by Leigh Whannell) are family hc. I love his enthusiasm!!
@adrianicsea - Adrian! Just. AH!!! Adrian's Sleeping with Ghosts series was perhaps my first introduction (outside of Adam romanromulus) to the sheer brilliance of Saw fandom writers.
@dodddraws - Dodd's art is.... I'm just at a loss for words, scrolling back through his blog. So much nsfw goodness.
@sawvhs - Rar's art is so so so iconic.
Okay I have to cut this list off here, jfc. There's others I should probably put on here but I'm getting tired and sweaty and my hands are hurting. Follow these people, check who they're reblogging from or who is reblogging them, go forth, prosper anon. Welcome to the Saw brainrot.

Understanding the Mirror Moment
Tumblr media
The first time I heard of the "mirror moment" I cringed--because the only "mirror moment" I knew in writing, was the very cliche, often touted as a no-no, mirror moment in the opening of a book, where the protagonist stares at her or himself in the mirror to describe her or his appearance. This is frowned upon for several reasons that would be better saved for another post (and yes, all rules can be broken).
Luckily THEE mirror moment is something totally different! It's a moment that comes right at the middle of your story (aka, the midpoint) and doesn't actually require anything close to a physical mirror. This is a term coined by best-selling writer, James Scott Bell, and it's his version we are here to talk about today. (Sorry other "mirror moment"--I'll save you for another post).
Midpoint Ambiguity --> Specificity
The mirror moment is a component of the midpoint.
Now, I gotta be honest: There are several different definitions of what a midpoint is and what happens at it.
The first definition I was introduced to, was that the midpoint was where new information entered the story to provide more context for what is actually happening in the plot--it gives the protagonist a "bigger picture" of the events that are going on.
This in turn leads the protagonist to move from a reactionary state to a pro-action state, or in other words, it moves them from wandering around to becoming more of a warrior and fighting antagonistic forces more aggressively.
I did a whole post on that midpoint concept here. And I was first introduced to it by Larry Brooks in Story Engineering.
Another school of thought on the midpoint is that it is a seeming victory or a seeming defeat for the protagonist. They either seem to get what they want, when they really haven't, or they seem to lose their heart's desire, when they really haven't. This is how Blake Snyder views midpoints in Save the Cat!
Personally, the more time goes on, the more I think both definitions are right. So these days, I prefer to combine them together:
The midpoint is a significant event and/or revelation that is either a seeming victory or a seeming defeat for the protagonist. It provides a broader understanding of what's actually happening in the plot, enabling the protagonist to become more proactive in their goals.
The midpoint almost always happens right in the middle of the story.
And it pivots the story into the second half.
If you are newer to story structure and still feel like you don't understand what a midpoint is and what it looks like, no worries, you'll still be able to learn about the mirror moment and implement it.
If you want to understand midpoints better, you can find more info on them here, here, here, and here.
What is the Mirror Moment?
The mirror moment is the moment the protagonist moves from reaction to pro-action (typically), on a deep, personal level, and it happens on page.
See, James Scott Bell also noticed there were different schools of thought on what happened at the midpoint: "I was never clear on what that thing was, because there’s conflicting advice on it, and some of it’s vague. So I set about to see if I was missing anything."
As Bell researched the direct middle of several books and movies, he realized each midpoint had the same moment (and shared it with us in his book, Write Your Novel from the Middle), an instance where the protagonist has to have a heart to heart with himself--where he is forced to look at himself in the mirror, so to speak--and reflect on who he is and who he needs to become in order to succeed:
"He takes stock of where he is in the conflict and--depending on the type of story--has either of two basic thoughts. In a character-driven story, he looks at himself and wonders what kind of person he is. What is he becoming? If he continues the fight of [the middle], how will he be different? What will he have to do to overcome his inner challenges? How will he have to change in order to battle successfully?
"The second type of look is more for plot-driven fiction. It's where the character looks at himself and considers the odds against him. At this point, the force seems so vast that there is virtually no way to go on and not face certain death. That death can be physical, professional, or psychological."
It's also possible for the protagonist to have both lines of thought.
Bell gives plenty of examples:
In Casablanca, Rick, drunk and bitter, puts his head in his hands in self-disgust, clearly wondering what he has become.
In Gone with the Wind, Scarlett looks inside herself and realizes she is the only one that can save Tara, and she wonders who she needs to become to do that.
In It's a Wonderful Life, Mr. Potter offers George a well-paying position in exchange for George giving up the Building & Loan his father started. George says he needs to think it over (a mirror moment), but soon after rejects the offer, because he realizes he can't become a man like Potter.
In The Fugitive, Dr. Kimble breaks down as he considers the odds against him.
Similarly, in The Hunger Games, Katniss accepts she will die--the odds are too great.
In a case where the odds are stacked against the protagonist, the protagonist may realize he or she needs to become stronger somehow to overcome them.
One of the amazing things about the mirror moment, is it often clues us into what the story is actually about, on the narrative level and/or on the thematic level.
Concerning Gone with the Wind's mirror moment, Bell explains, "That is the concept of Gone with the Wind. It's a story of a young Southern belle who is forced to save her family home."
Whether or not you fully grasp the other components of the midpoint, understanding the mirror moment can help bring clarity to the kind of story you are telling. It's an instance that pivots the story, from first half to second half. When you understand yours, you get a better grasp of what the first vs. second halves need to look like. This will help you consider how your protagonist is pre-mirror moment, vs. post-mirror moment.
The mirror moment gets the protagonist on the proper trajectory to overcome his inner demons, flaws, weaknesses, or misbeliefs by the end.
Or . . . it might be a little different, depending on what kind of protagonist you are working with. If the protagonist has a negative change, then it sets him or her on the course to adopt inner demons, moral indecency, or misbeliefs by the end.
In some cases, the protagonist may choose not to become this new person or face these dire odds, which often will result in a tragedy.
And finally, I would add that a protagonist who is already positively steadfast may not do a big shift or flip, but will still become more proactive as she chooses to press on.
Once the mirror moment is decided, the second half will test and prove it true. If the protagonist is resolving to become something more, then they need to show us by their actions (the "proaction"). We will need to test that resolve at the end of the middle (generally this is when the protagonist is faced with something especially painful and deadly). How committed are they to this journey? Normally, we need to see that they are all in by the last act.
Because how the protagonist changes or doesn't change is directly related to theme, the mirror moment is typically another signpost on the way to the true thematic statement.
You can learn more about the mirror moment, and how to use it to write your own story, in James Scott Bell's short book, Write Your Novel from the Middle.

Hey there nag! (Hope that name's alright, I just love calling internet people by like. Names) Just wanted to pop in and rec a fic for u in case u haven't already read it!! It's 'Dirty Paws' by Wolfgrowl on AO3 and it may or may not be about Larry Butz writing Warrior Cats fanfic but it's very dear to my heart and explores his character in the way Capcom staunchly refuses to. It hasn't updated in about a year, but it didn't leave off on a big cliffhanger or anything. Hope u enjoy it :)
omg that sounds like a lot of fun to read i’ll definitely check it out!!!!!

alls fair in love and war thor x reader
+++++++++
Not my best come-back but here it is. Sorry it took so long.
Request from wattpad
"Thor x daughter of ares. New war goddess falling for the god of thunder"
This takes place before the first Thor movie (technically)
Also I'm sorry it's so jump-cutty but Ive been having a really hard time writing, specially this one. Idk why but my motivation level has literally been zero. So I'm sorry if it sucks or if it's not what you wanted, I did try.
Song: I'm made of wax Larry, what are you made of? by a day to remember
+++++++++
I ran across the open field, sword and shield in hand, my minimal armor clanking as I moved. I swung the weapon, dodging blows as I pushed forward my shield. I was a lone soldier surrounded by hundreds of creatures coming at me. I moved through them like a cat, never once getting touched by the enemy. I smirked as my sword drew blood in the last one of them. I stood tall and breathed heavily over the fallen army.
I took my battle stance as I watched a flash of light Pierce through the sky and disappear no sooner than it had appeared. I relaxed as he came into view.
"THOR! ODIN SON!"
I yelled across the field to him. I could see his smile though we had quite some space between us. I advanced towards him, stepping over and on the bodies I had just taken down.
"Y/n! Daughter of ares. It has been too long my friend."
I hopped down from the largest creature with a loud thud right in front of him.
"It has."
He scanned the field.
"I see my assistance is not required."
I nudged his shoulder with my fist.
"Never was, never will be. It is good to have someone to watch me conquer though."
We both laughed.
"Well after all this fighting war fury you must have worked up a large appetite."
I shiethed my my sword, clipping my shield to my back.
"You know me all too well."
"Heimdall!"
He yelled, his fist thrown up in the air along with mjolnir. The bifrost beam appeared around us and we were flying. As we stepped into the bifrost itself I removed my helmet, balancing it on my hip. I nodded towards the gatekeeper.
"Heimdall."
He nodded back.
"It is always a pleasure to see you y/n."
"Likewise."
Thor patted my back and walked passed me to the entrance. I followed him and we made haste walking along the rainbow bridge.
"The warriors three will be most excited to hear of your return."
I smiled at him.
"Yet the only one I think who genuinely likes having me back is the most glorious lady sif."
I winked at him and he raised an eyebrow.
"I assure you that volstagg, hogun, and fandral all adore your company when you visit."
I laughed at his antics.
"And what of the mighty Thor?"
He smiled genuinely at me.
"I am probably the most excited to see you when you come around, besides father of course. He enjoys your war stories and strategies though he rarely battles anymore."
I nudged him and Drew my sword.
"Come, let us fly."
°°°°°°°°°
As we walked into the palace I looked around at all the gold. I had almost forgotten how large this place was. It was much different from Olympus. as we moved forward we were met with the warriors three, each of them greeting me with their own personal flare.
"it is good to see you all again i must say."
volstagg patted thor on the back.
"i say this calls for celebration, it is rare for you to visit us anymore, besides im sure the all-father could use a good story or two."
i laughed at what he had to say.
"im sure he would, what say you thor? shall we wine and dine as the midgaurdians would say?"
he smiled at me.
"i dont see why not."
°°°°°°°°°
i heard music drifting through the hall ways as i made my way to the dining hall. the food smelled amazing and i was eager to get to the party. it had been a while since i had talked to the all-father much less thor. i had almost missed him and his band of misfits, it didnt help that i had had a crush on him that had developed over the last few centuries. I walked forward to the table and bowed to the all father. He grabbed my hand and kissed it gently.
"You need not bow before me child, you are like family, as well as a mighty warrior."
I smiled at him before he laughed and embraced me in a large hug.
"It is good to see you again Odin, it has been too long."
He let go of me and returned to his seat.
"Please, this feast is in honor of you, join us."
I nodded and took a seat next to him.
"I was honestly surprised you agreed to a feast all father."
"And why do you say that?"
I picked up a grape and put it in my mouth.
"With talk of war moving through the nine realms I would have figured you to be too busy to party with an old friend."
I sent him a look in anticipation of his response. He gave me a Stern gaze before tapping the table.
"Those are just rumors, you of all people should understand that."
I reached over to him, placing my hand on the table by his plate.
"Odin war runs in my blood, I can feel  it pulsing through the galaxies. Maybe it won't be raging in the next few years but it is brewing and we needn't ignore it."
He went to open his mouth but Thor appeared at my side before he could say anything.
"Trading old stories?"
I just looked up at him but my gaze was torn away when Odin spoke again.
"Aren't we always my son?"
He smiled up at him.
"Why don't you take y/n on a walk across the grounds, many things have changed since she visited last."
I looked at him and drew my hand back, slowly standing.
"Yes I think that's a wonderful idea."
°°°°°°°°°
We walked through the garden side by side not really saying much but a sentence here or there about how things had changed. I personally didn't want to say much, I had too many political points running through my head about the on coming war. Suddenly Thor stopped.
"Something is troubling you."
I looked at him, watching him walk to the stone fence and sitting on it hesitantly.
"I thought I was harder to read than that."
He laughed.
"At first yes, but we've known each other long enough for me to know."
I sighed before joining him.
"I am troubled."
He reached over and took my hand in his.
"What troubles you?"
I looked up into his soft eyes.
"War."
He raised an eyebrow.
"Since when has war been something you overly concern yourself with?"
He was right.
"It's not just any war. I can feel something, something big. Something important, perhaps even world crushing."
He squeezed my hand.
"Well if that is true then we will fight this war together, Asgard and Olympus side by side."
I shook my head no and looked down at our intertwined hands.
"This is why I adore you Thor."
I looked up at him.
"You are as selfless as you can be and look for answers before you've even been brought a question."
He smiled at me.
"But I'm afraid this is a war we cannot win. Not you, not I, not either of our fathers. This is a war to end all wars."
His face dropped.
"Then we will fight until we cannot fight anymore."
I laughed at him.
"We will. Everyone will."
He brought my hand up to his heart and placed it gently on his chest.
"I would fight for you if that's what you wanted."
I could feel heat rise to my face, I hadn't felt like this in what seemed like a millennia.
"Lets not think about it now, war is not among us yet."
I took my hand away from his chest and moved it to his face.
"Let's drink, be merry, and love like no tomorrow."
He smiled before leaning down and kissing me.
"As it should be y/n."

Oh you think you're funny, I'm about to be hilarious.

King and Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men.
If I have to change bands too, Always Gold by Radical Face for various relationships breaking down while clinging to them
# 18 What’s one of your favorite lines you’ve written in a fic?
Oh god there's so many good lines I've got, be they funny or devastating...
Which is worse, he wonders. The grief at no closure or to drag out the inevitable.
That's technically two lines hmmm
Damn it, that's multiple lines about killing Spiritstar... I'll go with the cheat via two lines.
19. Give us a small teaser from one of your WIPs.

Science Fiction Felinoids
Home
One of the challenges of science fiction writing is populating the stories. One can use humans, but human motivations and cultures can be limited in scope and range. The anwser lies in using other physical forms than the human-- the lizard-like Gorn from Star Trek TOS co mes to mind. I imagined but never wrote about kangaroo-like aliens. A popular shape for aliens is that of the cat-- felinoids. Here are 5 Science Fiction felinoids of my acquaintance--
Even when cat-like in shape, aliens can be very human in values, thought patterns and motivations. It's not easy to create and alien mind from the inside out. We can create an alien with human like thoughts and then set its behavior and one end of the spectrum of human behavior and play it off humans whose personalities stand in contrast to that of the alien. And so it is with van Vogt's Coeurl. Coeurl in "Black Destroyer"/'' The Voyage of the Space Beagle'' is the last survivor of a dying race. He is decadent and depraved and not nearly as bright as he thinks, despite his abilities. After first conatct, he kills a number of the human explorers, not realizing how obvious he is. We can see the smugness of the house cat in him, but he also fits within expectations for human depravity. He is contrasted by the scientifically and intellectually trained and incredibly well adjusted humans of the Beagle. They have him neatly sorted and classified fairly quickly. He is however not without resources and builds a tiny spaceship with which to escape the humans when his luck turns. Despite ihs briilliance in adaptating human technology, he is emotionally and fundamentally disabled by his depravity. This disability leads to the sort of despair which is seldom a survival trait.
An alien way of thinking can still be human in nature but insane by human standards-- to the point that what we consider normal would be regarded by them as hopelessly and tragically deluded. Algis Budrys created such a race for Shadow on the Stars. Farlans in "Shadow on the Stars" are militaristic and inherently paranoid-- to the point where anyone militarily skilled enough to pose a political threat to his superiors is dealt with quickly and terminally. It is thus that Farla has become beset by a younger, stronger enemy while her Navy is led by preening idiots. Seeking remedy, the Farlans turn to a reservist named L'Maranid. L'Maranid makes short work of Farla's enemy with a series quick victories that shatters them into a collection os successor states. But the paranoid nature of the Farlans is destined to work to wily Earth's advantage.
Some aliens seem not so alien in thinking once one gets past cultural biases. The Hani of CJ CHerryh's Compact Space are traders in a multi species trading compact. They are newcomers to the game and feel inferior to Compact members who've been around longer. Their society is matriarchal, with males dispossed and treated as inferiors as a matter of course. Much of their literature is dedicated to the poignant brevity of males. C.J.Cherryh often writes about strong women coming to their own. Human examples are Signe Mallory of ECS Norway and Ari of Cyteen. And then there is Pyanfar Chanur. Chanur's rise parallels and powers the Hani's rise in Compact Space. Of as great an import as Chanur's elevation of the Hani in Compact space is the sexual revolution initiated by her taking her dispossesed and disgraced husband aboard as working crew.
The Kzinti of Larry Niven's Known Space are more alien in their thinking that the others, though they weren't always so. Larry Niven describes the Kzinti of his first story, "the Warriors," as humans dressed up in cat suits. A telling conversation occurs when the Kzin captain askes if they should be running from Angel's Pencil, the human ship and intended prey of the story. Kzinti in later stories would never consider asking such a question. They would "scream and leap" into battle as a matter of course. This impetuosity leads them into a series of defeats, especially in the First Man-Kzin War with its destruction of five invasion fleets in battles in Sol system and then off Wunderland in Alpha Centauri space. The reimagining of the Kzin in the many volumes of the Man-Kzin Wars should make and interesting paper or two.
The itiji, the cats in Golva's Ascent (Asimov's March 2012) by Tom Purdom are alien in culture and motivation. Though they lack hands, they posses sophisticated language abilities and understanding of advanced math, logic, ethics and tactics. They have evolved as hunters with a strong sense of ethics and compassion. Their natures stand in stark conquest to that of the brutal human interlopers on their world. Golva, like the jaguar in "The Snow of Kilimanjaro," is compelled to climb the heights and explore. Unlike that famous jaguar, he lives to tell about it.
Golva is a young itiji polymath and visionary. He has decided to be the first to scale the heights above his home. He encounters and is captured and experimented upon by a group of human explorers. They are unhindered by any conscience or compulsion. Eventually the brutality gets to be too much for one member of the expedition and she assists him to escape back to the lowlands. Golva's erstwhile tormenter makes the mistake of pursuing them. He shortly learns that superior tech and cruelty need not suffice in having one's way. The itiji are very good at coordinating rescue and the use of force. While his captors had thoughtlessly spared Golva no pian in interogating him, the itiji response to the human attackers is carefully considered and limited to only that which is needed to stop the attack.

Romanticsap’s list of favorite Ace Attorney fics (in random order)
Completed
Miles von Karma: Gregory Edgeworth Lives AU and Gregory Edgeworth POV where Miles is sent back in time and to an alternate universe. Miles has lost his memories and works as a detective.
Man of Mist: AU where Kristoph adopts Apollo. A dark story about a toxic familial relationship between a serial killer and the boy he loves. I loved the mix between moments where they were happy and moments that showed the darker side of Kristoph. Also Kristoph is a serial killer that’s killed way more than 2 people in this. (Though Klapollo is tagged in this fic, there’s no klapollo content. they do not directly meet each other. it’s only tagged bc it’s a prequel to another fic)
His Highness the Second: AU where the Revolution happens early and Apollo gets to grow up in Khura’in. Apollo has a loving family :) (he’s also trans but when is he not)
Burning On in My Heart: Klapollo sickfic that explores their insecurities and internal struggles. This is part 1 of the BOI Trilogy and I highly recommend all 3
In lipstick on the mirror are the lyrics to my obituary: Klapollo bodyguard AU. Neither Apollo or Klavier are lawyers but Apollo’s backstory is close to canon and Klavier is a rockstar.
Incomplete/On-Going
Turnabout Transposed : Miles is taken to an AU where DL-6 never happened
In the days before we were there: Apollo and Trucy are sent back in time 10 years and meet younger Mia and Phoenix
The Legacy of Gregory Edgeworth: AU where Raymond Shields adopts Miles
Exorcism: AA4 rewrite. Serial Killer known as the Devil has killed every innocent defendant from Klavier’s cases. Update: Completed
Dirty Paws: Crack taken seriously: Larry Butz writes Warrior Cats fanfiction to cope.

Can Writers Predict the Future?
Tumblr media
Earth and the Moon, science fiction author Ule Verne describes a lunar expedition closer to the Apollo 11 mission than readers think he could have predicted in the future. Some have compared his letter to the first human voyage to the moon which took place in 1969 when the United States sent three astronauts for the first time to the moon. He describes how the three-member crew launched their spacecraft from Florida and splashed around in the Pacific before returning to Earth.
Robert Heinlein, one of the greatest science-fiction writers of all time, is the second author on our list to predict his own future in the 1940s. A summary of his predictions can be found here, and it seems he got most of them wrong. In his vision of the future in his major dystopian novel Brave New World in the 1950s, the science-fiction writer George Orwell made some interesting observations about the next 50 years.
He made this prediction in 1964 in New York World Affairs, where he set out his vision for the next 50 years. After his death in 1980, he and several other authors, along with other authors, have predicted the near future in his book Predictions. Gibson would be the first to tell you that he did not predict the future himself.
At its most fundamental level, science fiction draws ideas and experiences from the contemporary cultural and technological environment and extrapolates them into a future event horizon in the minds of the authors. Many science fiction stories are set in the future, which means that they must include future technologies, but also current reasons why things will change or not.
He is part of a growing contingent of science fiction writers hired to envision and predict the future by think tanks, politicians and corporations. The CIO invited prominent science fiction writers such as Larry Niven, Robert Sawyer, Nancy Kress and Charles Stross to share their thoughts on tech-related predictions, including lessons from the business of imagining the near future. From Ramscoop's brain implants to Droud's Romulan warrior cat Kzinti and the orbiting habitat Ringworld, few science fiction writers have given us greater visions than Larry Nivens.
The World Future Society, an association of professional futurists, represents a small but growing group of professionals with decades of experience in thinking about long-term strategies and scenario planning - a method used by organizations to plan for any future. People gamble not to squander the opportunities of the future, but to turn aspects of society upside down. Preparing people to accept that their future is uncertain, and letting them deal with that fact, is not necessarily a bad legacy.
Science fiction writers such as Ule Verne and other well-known science fiction authors such as H. G. Wells and Ray Bradbury have shown an unusual ability to predict the future in their writing. From Jules Verne predicting the Internet to Arthur C. Clarke predicting 3D printing, you have to wonder who predicts what. Those who predict are advocating a wealth of the future to which we all contribute, in the expectation that change will be constant and volatile.
Science fiction encompasses a wide range of technologies that we don't have today, from room-temperature supercomputers to bell disks to shaft-sized, unlocked teleportation units. Science fiction writers are often hired to bring to life scenarios that companies have explored, such as Maughan's contract with Arup, or to come up with ideas they haven't thought of yet. Among my friends, I said a few months ago, it has become a running gag when discussions turn to scientific fiction that resonates in our everyday world.
Gibson doesn't believe the technology he stitched together for the book will prove predictable. Arthur describes in detail what he thinks the future will look like: people will be able to connect, know their locations and do business anywhere in the world. In the afterword of his book Data Privacy and Copyright: The changing landscape of Data, Privacy and Copyright, and What That Means for Writers and Other Creative Types, the author tries to guess what the future holds.
H. G. Wells (s) was considered by many as one of the greatest science fiction writers of all time – writes about lasers, wireless communications, automatic doors and other gadgets that did not even exist at the time of writing. In the early years of the twentieth century, Wells managed to film many ground-breaking novels that seem to define half of the great science fiction concepts that have since been made into movies. The books that turned out to be the most predictable were the works of writers who did what writers do best: investigate and deconstruct culture.
Kress is author of 25 books, including 16 science fiction and fantasy novels, two thrillers, four collections of short stories and three writing books. This selection presents factual information about space travel as well as poems that suggest what it would be like for humans to travel through space. Famous science fiction writers whose stories occupy fictional airplane seats are among the best-known names taking part in the experience: Margaret Atwood, author of The Handmaidens Tale, an acclaimed series on Hulu; Charles Yu, author of HBO's Westworld; and a host of other writers, some of whom have won prestigious Hugo Awards.

1. Jordan Clarkson hoops like how the screen would look in the ’90s when you tried watching porn on a pay-per-view channel you didn’t order.
2. I don’t know when exactly the Golden State Warriors became so fucking insufferable, but during Game 1, I realized that I hate them as much as I hate the New England Patriots. Of course, this is a sports hate. I do not hate them, like, in life. But I wouldn’t terribly mind if Draymond Green or Steph Curry lost a tooth. And just never, ever, ever found it. I actually want them to lose more than I want the Cavs to win. And I want the Cavs to win.
3. Last night felt scripted. I know it wasn’t. But it felt like there were supernatural forces at play to prevent the Cleveland Cavaliers from winning. So many fluky things happened against them in the last 90 seconds that the results seemed preordained.
For instance, overturning LeBron James’ charge was the correct call. Not going to sit here and say it wasn’t. But with as much NBA basketball as I’ve watched, I can’t recall a game where a block/charge reversal had that much of an impact on it. And it doesn’t seem like the type of thing that could and should be reviewed.
If that doesn’t happen, the Cavs get the ball back with the lead and the probability of them winning shifts dramatically in their favor. But it didn’t and it didn’t.
4. Look, when you’re forced to rely on J.R. Smith, that means you’re forced to rely on J.R. Smith. They should make that nigga Uber back to Cleveland. And not for Game 3. I mean right now.
5. I’m not saying that Tristan Thompson got himself ejected just so he could hop on a plane to Wyoming, but I’m not not saying that, either.
Also, I’ve watched the replay of the foul that got him ejected maybe 20 times now, and I still don’t see anything other than a regular fucking foul. Fuck this.
6. A part of me believes that God made the Warriors win because lightsknit niggas were already taking too many Ls this week. Basically, the only way for the Cavs to win would be for Drake to roast Pusha T and restore balance to the universe.
7. Jordan Clarkson hoops how cats fuck.
8. Can you imagine a referee overturning a crucial game and possibly series-altering call against Michael Jordan the way that happened with LeBron?
9. Before the series, I considered writing a piece asking how many points LeBron would need to average per game for the Cavs to win. My answer was going to be something absurd, like 200. Turns out, that might not have been that absurd. If you get 51 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, you’re not supposed to still lose by 10 points.
When the Cavs beat the Toronto Raptors so decisively last month, there were myriad comparisons of LeBron to Thanos. I think that analogy works, but for a different reason. We know that in the next Avengers movie, they’ll find a way to beat Thanos. That’s just how the movie and comic book universes work. And what if that’s also LeBron’s greatest legacy? Not to be on all-time-great teams, but to be a force so singular that it forces all-time-great teams to be created because that’s the only way to defeat him?
10. This Cavs team has no margin for error against the Warriors. We knew this before, but what made last night so fucking irritating is that they actually had a chance to win when the consensus was that they didn’t have a chance in hell. If they’d gotten blown out (like many of us—myself included—expected), then it would be, “Well, that was supposed to happen.” And there were multiple moments when it felt like the Warriors were ready to do exactly that.
But then the Cavs would find a way to inch themselves back. And while it was mostly LeBron, it wasn’t just LeBron. It was Kevin Love, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HIS PLAYOFF CAREER, actually finishing in the post. It was George Hill and Larry Nance Jr. making plays. It was Tristan Thompson and Jeff Green not being terrible.
And then, right when we allowed ourselves to believe that they could actually win, those front-running motherfuckers, who only taunt and talk shit when they’re up by enough points to be safe, reminded us that these Cavs aren’t supposed to win.
But now I’m fucked up, because I believe that they can. Even though they won’t.

=My Favorite Fics by sunsetmog=
Emperor’s New Clothes | 92k | Larry
The fact that Louis’s most precious belonging was a cat with a face like thunder and an uncanny ability to cover every single inch of Louis’s clothing with cat hair was something that Louis chose not to think about too much. or: Harry’s a pop star and Louis isn’t, and there’s a non-disclosure agreement where there used to be a relationship.
{Hoo boyyyyy, just start crying in advance, honestly. I finished reading it along with my fellow wip warriors who read this as a wip nearly a year ago. (I believe we’ve earned some type of medal actually.) And to this day, I could describe in great detail what Louis’ flat looks like and how it feels and how cold it is. This is a story about second chances, and about how fucking hard it is to give someone a second chance after they’ve hurt you. As a person who has a rather large problem with forgiveness, this fic made me reflect back on some of the second chances I refused to give and just wonder about them. This fic will break your heart and piece it back together, but it’ll never be quite the same as it was before.}
I Had Rather (series) |  236k+ | Tomlinshaw
The first time Louis Tomlinson kisses him, Nick is three sheets to the wind, wearing a pirate hat, and so fucking tired of Louis being a complete and utter knobhead that he’s spent the last ten minutes snapping at him. The kiss takes him rather by surprise, all things considered. Or: Nick and Louis don’t like each other, not even a little bit, not even at all.
{This is my favorite Tomlinshaw fic. And also tied for my all time favorite fic ever. This is a series of fics that I have read and reread a countless number of times. It’s angsty af, so it seems like maybe not the right fic to cheer someone up. But hear me out, what this fic does is transport you. In fact, that’s really what’s so special about all sunsetmog fics. The story and the writing overtakes you, so you can forget about your own life or problems and live in these characters for a while. And ohhhh, these are some characters all right. Oh, how you root for them to figure out how to be together. And oh, do they ever earn their (ongoing) relationship.}
Harry Styles Cooks… | 8k+ | Larry
In which Louis Tomlinson can’t cook, there’s a very special shower curtain, and Harry Styles used to be a baker. Or: Louis owns all of Harry Styles’ cookbooks, and he never intends to cook a single thing out of any of them.
{This is actual fluff. Can you believe it?? The fluffiest, funniest, absolute best variety of fluff. If you’re willing to read a wip, let it be this one. M, if you somehow turn this into angst (that’s right, I don’t trust you), I will fly to the UK just to yell at you.}
These are three of my favorite fics by sunsetmog! I made this rec in honor of her birthday. Happy birthday, @magicalrocketships ! There are so many of her fics I could have recced here though, so I just chose a few of my favorites. I had the absolute worst/best time choosing these fics. Like how could I leave off We Used To Wait, the car accident Tomlinshaw fic? I mean, “crying” is a tag for it, so there’s that. And oh, how I looooove her latest Tomlinshaw creation, Holding Our For A Hero (I Feel Like Chicken Tonight). That’s right. She put chicken in the title. KFC is how Louis woos someone okay?? It’s very effective.
M, I am happy to say that you are a lovely person and a writing genius, but I’m even happier just saying you’re my friend. Even if that means I sat at my kitchen table crying over the sad ENC headcanons you sent me at two in the afternoon. (Jk I loved them.) <3

Since it's spirity magicky stuff, can Clay talk? Use telepathy? Talk, but only to certain magical talents? Use a text to speech device designed for paws? Talk to Luke Triton, who Phoenix called over?
Tumblr media
“Luke can talk to animals” is a fact that I only learned recently and then I forgot it and then remembering it again now was a gut punch.
The joke was that Clay didn’t have any way of communicating with people, besides like if he got his paws on a laptop, and he was pretty much resigning himself to life as a cat. How they actually figured out it was Clay was something we’ve never gotten to besides the compounded joke scenario of Larry (whose Warrior Cats fanfiction-writing is a universal constant) having been gifted the ability to talk to cats by one of the fae. And Clay at that point had resigned himself to not being understood when he talked so he’s just talking to himself and Larry is like “wHY DOES THIS CAT KNOW OLD MEMES.”
Clay later reading Larry’s fic: “Yeah I don’t think like half of this would be physically possible to do as a cat”
Larry: “Well they also have incredibly organized religion so there’s a lot we just have to accept as-is.”
Clay: “Yeah I’ll be honest I’d believe that. I personally found religion after some of those fights I got into with the alley strays.”
Apollo: “You WHAT”
Clay: “I figured I was okay since I survived a knife right once!”
Apollo: “THAT IS NOT HOW THAT HAPPENED”
If you’re wondering how Clay becomes human again that’s a good question. I don’t have an answer. There was one option that it was a like, true love’s kiss breaks the curse kinda thing, except Clay was just flirting with several different people so they’re getting increasingly frustrated trying to figure out what they’re supposed to do, and who exactly to ask for help, and then Apollo gets fed up and gives Clay a kiss on his stupid fuzzy head and Clay turns back because the pure true love of your exasperated best friend counts. And then I forget who else is around but it includes Blackquill and/or Nahyuta and Clay immediately starts flirting with him and Apollo is like “THIS IS HOW WE HAD THIS PROBLEM TO START WITH.”
So this is the saga of Cat!Clay, the AU of the Fae AU.
