#he was like ''i know we used to go get hamantaschen from the local german bakery. i just don't know why'' #i ended up reciting a summary of the book of esther along with describing the basic activities #and let me tell you. book of esther very entertaining to recite loudly at work. #i think it floored me so much just because i always thought of purim in particular as a 'kid holiday' that youd do regardless of observance #just. you know. even if you don't go to shul you still dress the kids up in princess dresses and go whirl some graggers #but now that i think about it. shul was where the dress-wearing and gragger-whirling was performed. so. #like it makes sense NOW but at the time i was like. what the fuck could that question even mean #what IS purim. #box opener
